About Theodolite For Watch (Craig Hunter)
New in Theodolite for Watch version 2 is a map screen and waypoint manager. You can add waypoints on the map or at your current location, and view waypoints on the compass ring to visualize their bearing from your current location.
Theodolite has settings for compass mode (true or magnetic, degrees or mils), distance/altitude units (feet or meters), and position format (decimal degrees, degrees-minutes-seconds, MGRS, USNG, UTM, UTM-B, and Maidenhead Locator System). Users can choose to display an artificial horizon in the center of the app display (tied to pitch and roll) and can set the app's level reference to flat or vertical orientations of the Watch. The app has six color schemes, including two night vision modes - midnight red and luminescent green.
Theodolite for Watch is recommended for Apple Watch Series 5 and later (including Ultra). Apple Watch Series 4 and older do not have a compass sensor and will not show compass data. On older devices, the app uses the device's gyro sensor to measure rotation. You can twist the watch's digital crown to adjust and calibrate the gyro to the sun position, moon position, or a known bearing. Using these references, the "gyro compass" is able to give bearing. The calibration can be repeated as often as desired to give accurate results.
Theodolite reports accuracy from the magnetometer sensor in your Watch. To improve results, operate Theodolite away from magnets, electronics, or sources of electro-magnetic interference, including car dashboards, aircraft cockpits, metal structures, and other devices.

How do I cancel the Theodolite For Watch subscription?
Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your Apple ID (your name) at the top, go to Subscriptions, select Theodolite For Watch from the list and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you can keep using the app until then. See Apple's official subscription management page for details.
How do I delete the Theodolite For Watch app?
Touch and hold the Theodolite For Watch icon on the Home Screen, choose Remove App and then Delete App. Important: if you have an active subscription, deleting the app does not cancel it automatically - you must first cancel your subscription using the steps above.

I have had the Theodolite app loaded on my iPhones for years. I just purchased an Apple Watch Ultra 2 and this is one of the first AW app’s I added. I did this as much to support the author as to use it. Getting in on the ground floor of this version. I notice the location data is not loading. Brand new with the Apple Watch so I don’t know if there is an outside setting for this.
My younger self used to rock climb and go hiking every chance he got. I sure would have loved to have my Apple Watch Ultra, this app, and its companion app, the Pro Compass for Watch. The interface manages to be as beautiful as it is functional. I’m hoping that eventually the developers can create complications for these apps, making access even faster.
I need to get my install out of pending and completed. Could be a bad payment method (fixed) or an attempted install during a time when watch was out of battery. Thank you!

I’ve used the compass app on iphone for several years. I was excited to use the compass on my series three. Once I figured the gyro function it is great. The internal compass feature works if your watch supports it. Don’t blame the developer, they point this out.
Don’t give the negative reviews too much credit. Just make sure you have a series 5 watch and open the app from the App Store on your watch. That’s all there is to it. Interface is super smooth and looks great. $2 is a steal for this type of app.
Nice addition to the phone app. I would like to see the option of picking different position formats like you can in the phone app though, could you please make this an option.
Almost excellent. The only issue I saw after a year of using it, it’s the MGRS format. The 10 figures grid is perfect, but maybe put a space, a hyphen or aback slash between the first 5 numbers ? But over all, it’s my favorite app when in the training area !!!
Theodolite For Watch Negative Reviews and Ratings
This new version is a good start. A little more work in waypoint management by allowing the creation and grouping of many waypoints. The apps should then allow for the selection of up to 5 waypoints to display on the map. The app needs Watch complication ability and more support by the developer.
I just purchased the app but I can’t get it to download. Can’t find any assistance anywhere. Anyone have an idea. I’ve restarted several times.

Love the app on the iPhone and iPad, so I thought why not buy it for my spanking new series 5 with compass. Paid the money, downloaded the app, and nothing but crash city. Will not even load up once!!! Running WatchOS 6.1 on my series 5 with cellular watch, and so far, it’s been just a waste of money. 🤬
Deceptive description from developer. Apparently, this app will only work FULLY on Apple Watch series 5. The developer does not clearly mention this “small detail.” The compass function is completely useless. It will NOT work. I wasted a $1.99.
Ran once and now dies every time I open it, even after reinstall
Don’t waist your time. I payed twice trying to down load but did not work. Contacted app company but not much help there. Works fine on my iphone.
