Grain – Video Preset Maker Positive Reviews

It’s decentGrain Free is a solid and easy way for people to get into video color grading. If you own LumaFusion you really aren’t missing anything. Luma is half the price of this app. At launch, Grain is okay, maybe they’ll add more stuff later, but compared to LumaFusion where you can install your own LUTs it’s too expensive for what it offers. Update: used it with the 3 day free trial and its definitely better once you unlock the features. However, the color wheel saturation is way too strong. If you didnt have an apple pencil or a mouse, it would be frustrating to try and adjust the colors. I wish there was a way to select more than one LUT to import, but that could be an iOS/iPad OS thing. But the big thing is there needs to be a way to adjust the strength of the LUT you applied. If you werent shooting a strong enough LOG profile, the LUT will be too contrasty. Would i keep the subscription or pay for lifetime? Prob not, but ill keep an eye on this app..Version: 1.0

Great app with some hindrancesLoaded this app up, exported some footage from LumaFusion to get a grade going and it worked very well with the exception of some notable annoyances. First, the app crashes a LOT when trying to get your own footage opened (2019 iPad Pro 12.9). When opening a lut you made to make further tweak it’ll consistently crash and close the app 3 times in a row and then you’re good to go (odd). My second issue is that the exported .cube luts need some finagling to work with LumaFusion. From LumaFusion: “This is usually caused by another app registering .cube or .3dl files using a different ‘uniform idendtifier’”. That one just seems like Moment should consider talking to other app creators out there who are the known industry leaders in video production for the ipad to ensure a better user experience for their customers. Maybe use the the same identifier that LumaFusion does, or make a checkable option before you save your lut for different app compatibility. Overall super cool and absolutely what I was missing in my workflow. LumaFusion color correction/grading is not to my taste coming from Premiere Pro. Could use a little tweaking in further updates..Version: 1.0.3

Beautifully designed app with big improvements neededI’d happily ditch LumaFusion and pay the subscription for this app, which is gorgeous and feels intuitive when trying to get a specific look for my videos. I love how granular you can get with the settings and the results look fantastic. But the app is unfortunately so slow and laggy, exporting takes forever, my phone started overheating, and even some of the basic features (e.g., long pressing an effect to delete it) don’t work. I’m using a brand new iPhone 12 Pro Max with a full battery and no other apps open, so I can’t imagine what someone with an older or less powerful phone is going through. If this app gets a significant optimization update I could easily see it taking the place of both LumaFusion and Spark Camera, which I currently use daily for social media video diaries. Despite the flaws though, the end results do look incredible..Version: 1.0.1

I see potential BUTThe color grading is easy to use/understand but before getting to that part is annoying. The user interface for everything besides the color grading is pretty bad currently. In order to save your video you have to be IN the edit, you can’t save the video after you finish editing. Also there’s no option to save the video only, it turns those settings into a LUT, you’re able to use the LUT for the next project which isn’t a bad thing but I never intended to save it as a LUT. Also uploading a video isn’t as easy as it should be, navigating through this app is def annoying waiting on an update that changes the full UI. (iPhone 12 pro max).Version: 1.0.3

Good But Not GreatAn app like this has so much potential to take over the game video-editing wise on devices like phones and tablets. Hiccups that were very disappointing are navigation, exporting process and final export. Based off my experience SO FAR the quality of projects are reduced tremendously from the original. If they develop a way to export in 4K or in the original resolution that would produce a much better experience. At the end of the day, I love Moment regardless..Version: 1.1.3

Video editorI m trying to used more and more my iPad in location like coffee places or just in parks, away from home . Fresh air is always good..Version: 1.0.1

Nice pictures, easy to use.I’ve used it for some wedding photos this weekend. It is simple to use and the photos are lovely..Version: 1.0.1

It’s finally here! Finally, great grain and vintage look program. I love moment even more now..Version: 1.0.3

Love itMy favorite app.Version: 1.0.1

Loving the app… but…Loving the looks that can be created (& controlled!)- but- rendering speed is very slow (at least compared to LumaFusion …)- it seems that on an M1 iPad Pro that should be quicker! I know this is so new- barely out of Beta- can ‘t wait to see the app tuned a bit more… Thanks!.Version: 1.0

Frustrating UII’ve ran into this before with the Retro App but the UI is frustrating. This needs a quick update to the UI to make this more user friendly. To get into editing a video (photos are no where to be found) you go through 3 too many options to get there. 1. Open App 2. Create New Look 3. Click the Tiny + Symbol 4. Create New (again) 5. Select Photo or Video 6. Click ADD 7. Then Good Luck finding what you added. (Hint: you have to select ascending or descending to have your selections appear). 8. Highlight Video 9. Click Next 10. Tap to Edit 11. Done. I’ll wait for an update and revisit, I like Moments products but the this one needs a little push in the right direction..Version: 1.0

Not worth it if you don’t get Grain+The app has a great premise, but unfortunately, much like RTRO, in my opinion it’s pretty useless unless you buy the subscription. Totally understandable seeing as Moment has a history of great quality but it would be nice to be able to do a bit more with just the free version!.Version: 1.0

I mean it’s okYou pretty much gotta pay for anything worthwhile tho.Version: 1.0

GoldAnything Moment touches or creates is Amazing! Thank you Moment!.Version: 1.0

Editing Super 8 FilmHelped me color grade my Super 8 film!! So freakin cool! :).Version: 1.0

I liked it.I liked what this app was about. I could craft a decent look and take that digital edge off of the phone footage. For feedback - I’d love to see a more intuitive workflow. It’s currently very odd but I can make it work. For the app overall, I’m currently on iOS 16.5.1 and Grain is crashing on every attempt to launch. So, yeah… there’s that. But when it was working, I dug the looks I could get….Version: 1.1.4

Finally First Colour Grading Mobile App in MarketThank you Moments for this wonderful idea to make the preset in Mobile!.Version: 1.0
