Mozilla VPN - Secure & Private App Comments & Reviews
Mozilla VPN - Secure & Private Positive Reviews
Used to be great...I first purchased and downloaded the Mozilla VPN app over a year ago and for the first few months it worked great. However after an iOs update last month the VPN began disconnecting on its own as others have noted. Worst part is that no notification is given that the VPN has disconnected so you have to check it frequently to see if it is still connected. Keeping the app open worked for a while to keep it connected but now even that doesn’t prevent the VPN from disconnecting on its own. I contacted Mozilla support and they had me uninstall and re-download the app but that didn’t work. They then had me send them my VPN logs. They finally came back and just told me they don’t have a solution and offered to give me a refund. It seems they have just given up on fixing this issue. It works great on my laptop though...but not on my iPhone. I guess i will need to find a more stable VPN provider..Version: 2.0.3
Reported Mozilla to governmentMozilla contracts out vpn services. And One of its vpn severs in America routed the traffic to China. (Mozilla has no china vpn servers) . I discovered the Mozilla vpn server was actually a China owned server in America. Only reason i found out is because I knew Yahoo ended business in China. And while using American vpn locations I got a yahoo error message page that said I can no longer access yahoo and that yahoo was no longer in China. But I was using a u.s to u.s connection. Upon investigation, I learned exactly where the China Mozilla server was in America and I learned that China still had a cute China name for it ( in Chinese) . All because it didn't have the right settings. It routed my traffic through China . And if Mozilla replies that all of the traffic is encrypted then why is Microsoft discontinuing support for older computers (without the NSA cpu instructions) . Some experts say the encryption is broken Edit : the screenshot was sent to the NSA..Version: 2.20.0
Works Just Fine, But...I know iOS doesn’t allow for a kill switch, but if I can get notifications when I enable/disable the VPN, why isn’t there a notification for when it drops on its own? I’m repeatedly finding myself checking to see if it’s still enabled, and there have been too many times that I’m checking after browsing social media, only to find I was doing so with no VPN enabled. If there can’t be a kill switch for data, can there at least be a notification for when the VPN disconnects on its own (which seems to happen every 12-36 hours, lately)?.Version: 1.0.7
Mozilla respects their users. Most software companies these days throw users into the fire and provide a few web pages they can read to try and extinguish themselves, but Mozilla clearly spent a lot of time making their VPN a clear and understandable app that also provides advanced functionality. Additionally, I can tell the development team is constantly assessing user feedback and rapidly iterating based on it. I submitted a survey recently that mentioned it would be convenient on desktop to not need a browser to sign in, and seemingly someone actually read that and changed it so good on ya Mozilla. Paid or free, Mozilla products are always worth it..Version: 2.12.0
Love this VPNI have always been a fan of Mozilla and their mission. This is just a better version of the other popularly advertised VPNs on the market. I’ve been using the app for six months and I haven’t noticed any of the issues mentioned in the older negative reviews. My one complaint is the lack of a “dark mode”, which is not just for preference, it is also a pretty basic accessibility feature. I really dislike looking at an all white screen. Due to my profession, I often work in total darkness. Having to open an app to an all white screen is jarring and unpleasant, even with the brightness turned all the way down..Version: 2.10
Reliable Connectivity after recent UpdateI signed up during the time when connectivity was still spotty but I figured there were still kinks to work out given that they were also still working on Mac OS support. I don’t regret it though. Ultimately solid VPN. Does what it should. Plus the spotty connectivity was resolved with the latest update. Before the update, I would have to disconnect and reset the connection whenever I would be in and out of service areas or if the phone was locked for a prolonged period of time, but now it just picks back up right where I left off. I knew Mozilla wouldn’t disappoint..Version: 2.5.1
Great when it works (UPDATED)UPDATE: After this recent update, the app is working great and as expected! PREVIOUS REVIEW: I love Mozilla and what they stand for which is why I wanted to use and pay for their VPN service. I haven’t had an issue with the desktop version. On this mobile version however, I have to connect and disconnect from servers multiple times before I can use it reliably. When it works, it works great. But I shouldn’t have to jump through unnecessary hoops to use the service I’m paying for. I will continue to use it because I love their mission, but I hope this gets fixed and becomes more consistent soon..Version: 2.10
Occasional issues, mostly fineThis VPN comes after testing several others that came with their own issues and this so far has been the best. There might be a better one, but no major issues here. Speed, simplicity, working with other apps, and ease of login all put it high on my list. Security and privacy of the parent company is hard to beat. The worst issue is that it sometimes won’t turn off and I have to go into the system settings and disable all VPNs. This is rare but annoying. Apart from that, it’s worked fine on my windows and iOS devices..Version: 2.15.1
…disappointingMozilla VPN doesn’t work on my office’s wi-fi because my organization blocks traffic on the ports that the VPN uses. So, unfortunately, I can’t use it while at the office, and that is a deal-breaker for me. It works on my Verizon wireless, but that is slow in comparison to wi-fi. If only the VPN had the option to use one of our un-blocked ports, I might have been able to use it. (Edit: I upgraded my rating to 4 stars from 3. The developer responded to my review and acknowledged the issue. After that I realized that the app merely doesn’t work in my circumstance. However, other VPN apps work for me, so I still don’t believe this app deserves 5 stars. Sorry Mozilla.).Version: 2.24.3
Mozilla as always … the bestI really don’t want to jump up and down about Mozilla, because if you use it you already know. But for those that haven’t been through the evolution of Mozilla you should check it out. It was the best at every upgrade. This is no different , a relevant reliable extraordinary product from this amazing company that I trust to protect my privacy and my computer. They have been doing it for me maybe longer than you have been here. Ok I’ll jump up and down , in my mind …. Cheers.Version: 2.10
Good, with some flawsLove most of the app. My only problems are speed and the difficulty to keep it up all the time. Running speed tests (wifi) my speed plummets from about 600 Mb/s to about 50 Mb/s when I turn the VPN on, which isn’t too bad, but if that ratio is true for slower connections, that would be problematic. The bigger problem is that the VPN turns off after a certain amount of time, and I have to manually turn it back on. I haven’t figured out a trigger for the VPN turning off, but I feel that I shouldn’t have to always nudge it to be sure that i’m protected and private..Version: 1.0.6
The best and least expensive VPN I have usedI have used several different VPN services in the past, and only one was even nearly as reliable as Mozilla VPN, and that one would not work with my Linux computer(s). Mozilla VPN has been the easiest to use, and it has never failed to work perfectly. Mozilla VPN has always worked perfectly with all of my devices: Windows, iOS, and Linux. All that, and it is the least expensive of all that I have used..Version: 2.25.0
Go Mozilla! The app is really good and integrates well with IOS. In terms of VPN’s this is probably one of the better options on the market and is backed by Mozilla. Connection is good, especially for a VPN. Sometimes my school wifi won’t work with the VPN but that has more to do with my university than the VPN itself as no vpn works. When outside of my university I always have this VPN on and it got a good connection and doesn’t hinder my internet performance over wifi or cellular..Version: 2.8.2
Accessibility improvementsSo far, this is a good VPN. It runs good and everything, but navigating it with voiceover is extremely difficult. I am blind, so I have to use this screen to navigate around my phone, so it gets really hard when apps don’t have good accessibility. Signing in is easy, as is everything for getting it set up, but after that, going into the settings, doing literally anything else, including turning the VPN on and off from the app requires the screen recognition feature. please fix this.Version: 2.24.0
Drops randomlyI appreciate mozilla as an organization, but the ios version of the vpn drops randomly without notice, and there’s no way to configure it to start when i turn my phone on. The mac version works totally fine, i can configure it to startup when i turn my laptop on and it doesn’t drop. I just wish the ios version worked as well. i actually used mullvad vpn directly before this and never had any issues (both have flat rate pricing models). I’m likely to switch back to mullvad, and may revisit mozilla in the future if it gets more reliable..Version: 2.0.3
Fast, needs an “always on” VPN configuration option. To the developers, overall I’m impressed with the connection speed. I’ve always loved Mozilla products. However, I’m a bit surprised that for a VPN there is no option for an “always on” configuration. I hate that I have to turn that on each time I restart my device or any time connection is lost. That’s the only reason this gets 3 stars from me. I’m still testing it out for a few months, if this option isn’t added in the near future I’ll probably switch back to Proton VPN..Version: 1.0.6
A VPN Deal For The PriceI’ve had no issues thus far. It is reasonably fast. The user has to try different cities for best speeds. There are a pretty limited number of server locations but it gets the job done. The app will not automatically find your optimal connection as Nord does and you cannot select from different servers at a destination but for basic VPN needs its all there. It works as advertised and the price is a steal. I’m waiting on the Mac version..Version: 1.0.6
Excellent serviceAfter extensively testing multiple VPN options available in the market (many during their trial periods), for my case, I've found that this VPN stands out as the best choice. I've evaluated various aspects including speed, ease of use, and success rate in accessing specific software/services, and this VPN excels in all these areas. Mozilla, Keep up the great work! (btw a fan of your browser ^ ^).Version: 2.23.0
Connectivity problems persistLike others, I wanted to support Mozilla, but the connection will just drop without warning (worse in the evening), which makes it unusable, particularly when you need a dependable connection (meetings, banking sessions, etc.) I followed all the recommendations on Mozilla’s help section, to no avail. It looks like the issue is with the servers themselves, suddenly becoming “unavailable”. Very disappointing..Version: 2.12.0
Support a good non-profit and the only non-sketchy VPNLet’s be honest - the VPN industry is sketchy and riddled with scandal, unethical marketing, and shady corporations. Mozilla is a non-profit with a literal DECADES long track record of supporting privacy and open-web/open source principles. It’s not the cheapest, doesn’t have the most servers, and maybe not even the fastest (although it’s very fast) but it’s on a very short list of VPNs I am willing to put my money behind..Version: 2.8.2
Good productI’ve been using this app for a little while now and I’m generally very pleased. My only complaint is sometimes I have to take down the app because a different app I want to use won’t recognize me with it up. I think it has to do with the feature that masks my IP address. Luckily, the app is compatible with the banking I need to do, and that was one of my primary reasons for getting it. Well worth a try..Version: 2.6
Very good for price pointSo far, I’m happy to have this very affordable tool available - particularly at public Wi-Fi spots like coffee shops and airports. If you don’t understand why that is important, I would advise you to just cut to the chase and purchase this inexpensive peace of mind. Then, invest the time in the research you have avoided on encryption algorithms and the pro/con of one hop or two. This is a wise move..Version: 2.12.0
Ignore the negative reviews!I have had many VPNs, before they were cool! And I have to say that Mozilla VPN has great options on the app and doesn’t throttle or slow down when using it. I use it across all my devices and the price is unbeatable! I may be biased as I prefer any Mozilla product as what they stand for, but hey this VPN gets the job done!.Version: 2.3
A Perfect VPNIt is very easy to turn on/off and select the location you want to mimic. Internet speed is fast. What more could you ask for? It’s a great price too. I’ve used several other VPNs they required a year’s payment in advance. This is just as good or better. Highly recommend!.Version: 2.2
Easy to use VPNMozilla VPN has been a solid VPN solution for me. I appreciate the global options and there are some nice built in features like the speed test. 4 stars because the app didn’t work correctly on install. I reached out to support and was assisted and the app connection issues were resolved. Apps (paid!) should work upon install but luckily support was helpful..Version: 2.16.1
Fast but has issues with turning off randomlyI like the simplicity and speed for my basic VPN needs. However, about half of the time I check the app (a few times a week), the VPN has turned off without my doing anything, and there is no way to tell how long it’s been off for. Am I supposed to leave the app open all the time? Big fan of Mozilla but not a fan of this product until this issue is fixed..Version: 1.0.6
Better VPNs out thereIssues connecting, takes a lot longer than other VPNs. If you want to just switch your location for shows or movies this is the VPN for you. If you want to encrypt your data, try other ones, as there’s only a handful of USA servers which I believe is the cause for the long connection times Overall, not really worth the 9.99/mo they charge..Version: 2.19.1
Reliable after software updatesPreviously I could not use Mozilla VPN because it would randomly disconnect. But now they have it fixed and I’m finding it to be easy and reliable. Occasionally I have lack of an internet connection that is corrected by disabling VPN but this is rare..Version: 2.4.0
Good speeds. Difficult to use.Like other reviewers, I’m happy to support Mozilla and the speed of connections are good. However, browsing locations for connections is tedious. The disconnect toggle is not responsive, which makes turning off the connection very frustrating. I’m leaving Moz for a different provider but hope to be back when when the service is more developed..Version: 2.14.0
No Connect on DemandThe Mozilla VPN app does not support Connect On Demand. This is the feature that will automatically reconnect to the server upon disconnect. For a privacy-oriented VPN, this is a non-starter as it means you can leak your connect any time the VPN disconnects. I don’t know why the app doesn’t support it considering Mullvad does (and Mozilla is piggybacking on Mullvad servers). I want to support Mozilla through this app, but without this feature, I’ll be returning to Mullvad directly..Version: 2.1.0
Solid VPN through A Well Know Privacy StandMozilla has been one of the largest proponents for personal privacy. It seems like a no brainer, to use a solid paid service to keep them on the map while they provide a now indispensable service for pol on the go..Version: 2.25.0
Amazing SoftwareThis software product is incredible. The user interface is simple and no fluff. The functionality is exactly what I need. The only thing I would suggest to make this application even better, is to provide a guide as to how Mozilla’s VPN stands out among its competitors!.Version: 2.20.0
Not on older iPad minis, well on newer devicesOn older generation iPad minis, VPN stats and crashes immediately. App Store says it is supposed to work on this iPad. Newer devices it works beautifully on, but still allows access to my locale info. Must disable location access to apps in Settings in addition to turning on VPN..Version: 2.5.0
Works great!Simple to use, seems to be working well and allows 5 devices. It’s also a plus that it goes to support Mozilla/Firefox. Currently using it on iPhone, iPad, and windows laptop with zero issues so far. If you going to get a VPN service, give it a try..Version: 2.10
Not working any more 10/22After working perfect app connects but no internet. tries measing with settings but nothing. its been months and no update. very dissapointed. using newest ios on apple 11 phone After recent update and disabling “Tunnel VPN through port 53” i began getting through the internet thank god it was 2 months w/o vpn.Version: 2.10
Good, as far as it goesIt’s pricey, but the easiest VPN I’ve found. Installs and works properly right away, At first, I was worried about laxity in blocking ad. But I can use Adblock’s DNS. Works great. Best to deselect uploading data to Mozilla — read its privacy statement. Now if Apple would only open Safari to tougher extensions, especially fingerprinting countermeasures..Version: 2.7.0
Get Your VPN Now!!!I have been with Firefox for years and l have never been disappointed with all their labors. Always raising the bar and getting out the kinks!!! When l discovered the VPN l was over joyed. Mozilla and all their products are number 1 in my book..Version: 2.12.0
Good but needs more growthAfter testing the VPN for a week and a half I can say it’s fairly reliable. It’s missing some features that being said it is a new VPN. I’ll be interested to see what features they bring in the future and hopefully diversified themselves from other VPN providers. I missing key feature I feel is crucial is there’s currently no trial available. Even if only a week was offered it would be hard enough of a chance for someone to test out and see if they like the service..Version: 1.0.6
It’s getting betterI’ve been using this since it was released and it was buggy and unreliable for quite a while. Recent releases have really improved it and I’m glad it’s noticeably better..Version: 2.13.0
No On-Demand SettingI guess it does what we’re told it does. However, you need to turn it on every time you power up or restart your mobile device. That, in my opinion, is a fail..Version: 2.5.0
Satisfaction garantieDepuis que j’utilise VPN Mozilla je peux surfer sur le WEB facilement et en toute sécurité..Version: 2.22.0
Great customer support! No app is perfect, however when you have an issue, what IS important is that you can get help easily. That is the experience I’ve had with this app so far, which is great! When I had an issue, I got to communicate with a real human being within a business day or so, who knew exactly what issue I was facing, and gave me some helpful advice. Also I will always be pro non-profit corporations, as well as an advocate for an open and accessible web! (Ikik that’s literally their mission lol).Version: 2.20.0
Great VPN with a Delightfully Simple User ExperienceI've used Nord and other VPNs in the past, and Mozilla for 99% of users is feature-wise just as good as all the competition! It's fast, reliable, has a kill switch, is super simple to use and its backed by Mozilla which has an amazing history of privacy protection. There is no one I would trust more for a service like this. If you want to get around Geo Blocking Netflix, this is not the VPN for you, but for almost everyone else, you can't go wrong. Highly recommend!!.Version: 2.19.1
Great simple app some tweaks neededThe vpn icon is not readily visible in latest iOS. There should be a Ui method to alert users that a vpn disconnect has occurred. Or a kill switch. Secondly, allow local network traffic should be more granular as local network are not all safe. Able to print or file share but not broadcast advertise or stream for example..Version: 2.12.0
Needs some workSo far I’m having issues with it actually grabbing an internet connection and the app has to be force closed before it’ll display that it’s connected. It’s a little iffy on my phone (iphone 12) and can’t seem to get a connection at all on my iPad pro. Works great on desktop so I know it’s there, hoping the compatibility issues will be smoothed out!.Version: 2.3
Easy setup, works well, but……I wish I had the option of using my local DNS server. I run Pi-Hole on my network to block ads and trackers, and I have to give that up when using Mozilla’s VPN. There would be privacy implications to allowing it, but I only use this service to spoof geolocation, and it’s annoying to have to give up my filtering to do so..Version: 2.3
Servers neededOverall, it’s ok. Being dropped too often. need more servers in Canada. Would be nice to have “kill switch”..Version: 2.0.3
It worksConnections are fast and stable but as others have mentioned, it’s quite feature poor compared to other VPNs. I miss having things like auto-connect and widgets, but I assume (hope?) with future development we’ll see feature parity with the competition. Also saw a comment about not working in Canada but it works just fine for me..Version: 1.0.6
Great so farI had NordVPN for 3 years and PIA before that. So far this is better. Always had annoying random connection issues with Nord, and connection speeds are better on this so far. Most of all though is it’s a company I trust and like to support. So many sketchy VPNs out there. Cons right now are that it’s a very bare bones app, I hope we get a few features/options..Version: 1.0.7
Very good choiceIt is fast, simple and there is no anual commitment. I’ve been using it for two month now and I’m very happy with it..Version: 1.0.6
Good, but critical feature missingMozilla VPN mostly does what it should, but it doesn’t automatically restart when rebooting a device. This is a big oversight, especially if it’s supposed to become VPN for the masses. A user shouldn’t have to think about protecting themselves, they should just be as is the case with most large VPN providers. Also, it configures the VPN differently in settings in iOS compared to other VPN services, which is a bit confusing. Many others are under a section called “personal VPN,” whereas Mozilla’s is under a “VPN configuration.”.Version: 1.0.6
Free and open web championThere’s no reason not to go with Mozilla which has a proven track record of touting a free and open web. Your money directly funds important web initiatives that we desperately need today..Version: 1.0.2
