“Proton has now made it stupid-easy to encrypt your schedule. Information about what you plan to do, where, and with whom, can be just as sensitive as the messages you send and receive.” Gizmodo

Proton Calendar: Secure Events App Comments & Reviews
Proton Calendar: Secure Events Positive Reviews
One major problemI’m new to proton. I just signed up and am starting to migrate my email to proton. I am trying to use the calendar but I’ve run into an issue. If I receive calendar invites in my email that are an attachment (such as an ICS file), there doesn’t seem to be any way to add them to my calendar. From the proton mail app there is no “add to calendar “ button. From the calendar app there is no import that I can find which allows you to import a downloaded file, and in iOS when you try to use the “share” button the calendar is not an option. This means the only way I can find to add some invites to my calendar is to manually enter the information. Ideally an “add to calendar” button should be available from the mail app, and a share extension should be available so you can receive a file/invite into your calendar. On the plus side: My wife and I are both migrating to proton, so it’s nice to be able to share the calendar with her and both of us to see the same events. I’m still new so as I use this more I can get a better opinion..Version: 2.6.0
PromisingPerforms the basics with reminders, good visualization, location, and making it recurring. Missing the ability to share a calendar currently, which is currently being worked on. This is a core function of a calendar though, and should integrate better with their email services, even if these functions are restricted to other working Proton users. I hate to rate something down for a service it openly declares is not currently implemented, this is pretty central to a calendar app and is currently keeping me from fully migrating to Proton Calendar. The app also needs additional security found on Proton Mail and Proton Drive where it allows for the use of a password/pin and/or biometric on startup. Looking forward to the updates, and of course I will update my review when things change. edit: Thank you for the reply! I did not see sharing was an option since I primarily use the app on iOS. I will try it out from the PC see if I can share and then still update and use it from iOS. Not ideal, but at least a work around..Version: 2.3.0
Been using a few monthsI’ve been using proton for about a month and weaning myself off Google. So for the time being I’m trying hard to overlook many of the lack of convenience items that come with going with a non big dawg in the calendar space. In general the app does what I need it to do and it’s encrypted so that’s why I’m continuing to use it. Here are the three big features that are missing: 1) I cannot add events from proton mail into proton calendar. This is super annoying and sometimes I go to my laptop just so do this in bulk before I delete emails, or I manually add it on my phone. 2) I cannot add participants in the app. Similarly now I often have to go sit down at my computer to add participants to an event. 3) this is more nitpicky but I find it cumbersome to have to scroll through 60min when setting a time for an event. Almost all of my events are at x:00 or x:30, occasionally at x:15 or x:45. It is actually too much to have to swipe multiple time to change a start time from x:00 to x:30. If a user needs to set it to something weird like x:37 they can type it and the scroll wheel should just have round numbers in it. Otherwise the value prop of encryption, in addition to knowing this is a growing and developing product is keeping me here and I assume some of these will be resolved over time. Small thing - I like the logo-ing and the purple:)..Version: 2.7.0
ImprovingI am a Proton Unlimited subscriber because I love the platform and their commitment to privacy. Pros: -Simple/attractive UI -Solid basic calendar features Cons: Requires a little extra effort and a few workarounds to tailor this calendar to your personal needs. Birthdays: -automatic Integration of birthdays from our contact lists is preferable here but still notably not an option. Workaround: -In the meantime, I just created a ‘Birthdays’ calendar and manually added each one myself. US Holidays: -Currently, there are a lot of holidays( of which I’m used to being alerted to via iCloud calendar) that are not included in this feature. Workaround: -I disabled Proton’s built in ‘Holidays’ calendar and created my own, manually inputting each one. Thankfully, you can add calendars from other platforms via URL (note that these cannot be altered in the Proton app and this feature has its limitations as it is not updated or synced in real time). Overall, Proton’s commitment to privacy and putting their users first as well as their continuous improvement to the platform, for the most part, alleviates any reservations I might have otherwise had. I didn’t mind putting in a little extra effort to tailor the app to my needs. That being said, I hope they continue to listen to user feedback and implement new features sooner rather than later..Version: 2.9.0
Love proton! but it’s a bit too basicI want to switch fully to this calendar, but it made my phone super hot while adding my scheduled items; I only have about 7 right now. My phone is not plugged in for charging, it’s the newest iPhone and running up to date software yet this app just heated up my phone like I’m FaceTiming inside a sauna. There is no reason a calendar app should be using enough power to cause that. Otherwise it’s a great app, 2 suggestions to make it more user friendly: - add national/international holidays - add color options for the little dot on the calendar indicating a scheduled item. Right now it’s just a green dot, but if I have multiple things scheduled I’d like to make more important items a different color; for example I’d make doctor appointments pink dots, school reminders blue, errands green… this way looking at my schedule I’d know immediately by the color dot if I could easily change plans for something that comes up or if I should see what other options are available because I see I have something less flexible that day. Not having to click on each day to see what I’m doing and have a general idea just looking at the month view would be much more convenient. Thanks Proton team! We need more functional apps with proper privacy!.Version: 2.0.2
Needs speed and tap featureI was excited when proton finally released this iOS app for the Calendar product. Overall, Proton Calendar is a good calendar application. I love using it on my laptop browser, but the iOS app still needs work. It is very very slow in creating events. Whenever I am finished putting in all the info, I have to wait there for another 20 seconds for it save and close the page. Waiting to do that is a big hindrance. It is not yet seamless in allowing me move onto the next thing. Also, a really handy feature would be tapping on the block of time in the day to create an event. Right now you have to click the plus sign, and then enter in all of the info. This makes using the app on the phone for my calendaring undesirable. I am considering switching back to google or Apple’s iCloud calendar..Version: 2.2.0
Getting BetterI’ve been a paid Proton user for many years and have been anxiously awaiting a calendar so I can fully break the Google shackles. The user interface is still pretty clunky. Adding an event should be a few clicks and done; including a click-and-drag-on-the-time-block event creation, quick and easy time entry, etc. These feature are lacking. I’ve been using Calendar5 forever and they have perfected the process, so I guess I’m spoiled. The number one feature still missing is the ability for me to share a calendar with my wife and allow her 100% edit/delete/add capability. The web app allows this, but the app doesn’t seem to..Version: 2.3.0
Crashing on iOSUpdate: No more crashing - it seems to have resolved itself and has not happened again. Upgrading to 4 stars! Would love to see the daily agenda/day view expanded to be able to see a week or month agenda/view. I downloaded this calendar to use together with Proton Mail and ProtonDrive, and it was working pretty well for the last week or so. I also downloaded Proton VPN and started using it today. I don’t know if the VPN is impacting ProtonCalendar or not, but the calendar only stays open now for a couple seconds and then it abruptly closes. I rebooted my phone, but it did not help. This seems to be occurring whether the VPN is connected or disconnected. I don’t want to go back to Google, but I need a calendar on my phone. Hope you can get it fixed ASAP!.Version: 2.4.0
Love the App - Needs Widget SupportAs other reviewers have expressed, this app is very barebones. I’m okay with that. I don’t need all the frills of a normal calendar app. I just need to be able to keep up with appointments, birthdays, etc. A scrollable agenda view where you can see multiple days at a time would be great (a similar feature is available in mainstream calendar apps). My main gripe would be the lack of widget support. I really like being able to see my calendar at a glance without opening an app. My current workaround is to use Apple Calendar to view my Proton Calendar events, which sorta defeats the purpose of using a privacy focused calendar. Hoping widget support is coming soon so I can delete all other calendar apps..Version: 2.6.0
Good calendar, but difficult to edit eventsThis calendar seems to work so far, and I appreciate the clean, simple interface. However, this app does lack a single searchable view of all events scheduled, in case the user is looking for information (or desires to edit) a certain scheduled event. The only way to edit events seems to be through calendar view, which assumes the user has the dates of scheduled events memorized— to find an event, one must know the date. If this were the case, there would be no point in saving an event to a calendar at all. I’m sure this functionality has not been overlooked and will be implemented in the future. I’m grateful for all the effort the developers have invested in this app..Version: 2.0.3
Time zone issueI changed the default time zone in a calendar appointment to be my time zone, updated the other appointment details and saved the appointment. The agenda view still shows the default time zone time, but my time zone time is shown correctly when I reopen the appointment. The reminder does go off during my time zone (which is good). I use Proton VPN & Proton Mail, and I was super excited when I saw you have a calendar app! I would love to start using Proton Calendar, but it is too confusing with this time zone issue - could you please fix it? Also - is there a way to change the default time zone so the I don’t need to reset it for every new appointment? Thank you so much - Proton is the best!.Version: 2.0.2
Calendar Works WellThis app works well. However, it is missing a few MAJOR things that I hope to see in the future. 1. Please add a busy/available tag for each event. This allows me to use scheduling services. It would be nice if events are default as busy, but have the option to be “available” so that when a scheduling service sees the event, it opens that slot. 2. Creating an event that span over multiple days. The UI isn’t great for this. It would be nice to have a graphical date picker, as opposed to the current scrollable text date picker. I like to see the day I’m picking (Mon, Tues, etc), instead of just the number date..Version: 2.10.0
I want to love it, butI really want to love it, but so far I am just limping along with it hoping more features will be added. There are many features that “other” calendar has that are incredibly useful. Being able to search the calendar events/entries, being able to view more than one month (my other app allows zooming in or out to any desired level-view the full year, one, two, or three months, etc.). It would be great to have a place to share suggestions in hopes that they will be considered for implementation in future versions. I will happily update my review if my experience changes..Version: 2.0.4
Widgets Make the World Go RoundCould you guys add widgets? If you’re familiar with the base calendar from iPhone, it has a widget that displays the date on the left, then if there’s anything planned that day is displayed below that date, and on the right it shows upcoming events. That’s the main reason I haven’t completely switched to Proton calendar, because I like being able to swipe left and seeing my upcoming plans for the week. Now if it has something to do with the app needs to decrypt to be able to view my calendar, then that makes sense. Otherwise please add widgets, that would be awesome..Version: 2.11.0
I want this to work but…I don’t want to use google services for a number of reasons, so I came to Proton. After a couple of weeks with everything working fine…all of a sudden my events are not syncing to my mobile device. I cleared cache and that seemed to do the job…but how long will that last? How will i know for sure i dont have a call i will miss? I cant run a business if this basic functionality is questionable. I will keep using the app because i want this to succeed. If it works for an extended period i will be back to update my review.Version: 2.12.0
Ok so far, need more view optionsI like the idea of privacy focus calendar and Ui is decent but it can be improved. On Google calendar you can view all the events in a month with little info detail about the event, that view is what I liked most about Google calendar and I would love to see that in this app. Currently it only shows colored dot I have to tap each date to remind myself what is happening on when which is little bit of annoyance. Love the app so far, keep up the great work 👍.Version: 2.6.1
Basic functionalityIt has a lot of basic functionality, but it’s missing a lot too. I’d like to see an option to import my calendars and events from iCloud for a seamless transition. There doesn’t appear to be a way to subscribe to an online calendar. I understand online subscribed calendars aren’t encrypted, but some services I use only provide a subscribed calendar url instead of iCal events I can import. There doesn’t appear to be a way to search the calendars which is a pretty basic functionality. This isn’t a basic functionality problem, but a feature request. I currently use Fantastical. My favorite feature of the application is being able to type in “Meeting with John at 123 Anywhere St at 1:30 PM for 1 hour on Saturday” and it parses this string to full out my event for me. For me, this is much faster because I can swipe faster than I can click on fields and spinners..Version: 2.12.0
Need Support for Additional CalendarsNice to finally have a calendar app. One issue however…. I have two Proton email accounts where I receive event invites and only see an option to login to one account at a time. I would like the ability to access both accounts to show events from both or filter as needed with the check box. Am I missing something? I see the option to check or uncheck the calendar which portends that this feature is maybe coming soon?.Version: 2.0.2
It needs work. Like a lot.I strongly support Proton and their mission. I use Proton Mail every day, I’m an unlimited subscriber, and I’ve been here for years. Proton Calendar, as a super basic, super easy calendar is *fine*. If you need anything more than the bare, bare minimum of features, go elsewhere. I know Proton is working on improving Calendar, but when a product like Pass that’s only a year or so old is already so much better than your third EVER product, you’re doing something wrong. You guys know what needs to get done, so please do it..Version: 2.13.2
Promising but needs workThey have added a lot of functionality over the past couple of years which has made these proton products go from difficult to use, to now they are almost as easy to use as mainstream providers. I hope they continue to develop these products and make them easier to use . Lack of a native iPad app is a bummer and almost makes me deduct another star, hopefully they release one. For now this app only works on iPhone..Version: 2.7.0
Basic and functionalThis calendar is simple and easy to use and I love that it’s privacy focused as well. Importing my calendar from Outlook was easy enough and setting up. New appointments and events was also easy. One thing that this app lacks is widgets I would love to be able to see my calendar at a glance on my home screen through widget without having to open the app constantly. Aside from that, this is a super simple, functional and easy to use Calendar..Version: 2.12.0
Getting better but still needs workThe most annoying thing now is when you need to create an event for the next year you have to scroll through the date pick through every day. It would be way better to just be able to select the year and month then the date. Takes forever to get through the date picker. Still no iPad version. The iPhone version only works vertically not horizontally..Version: 2.12.1
Making progressProton calendar has come a long way, especially the desktop/web version with sharing capability, displays, etc. It seems that that’s where most of the development has gone recently so the app has been lagging. Pretty simple interface, minimal settings and no widgets. Love the privacy, encryption/security and no linked data by Proton. Hoping some more features come on line for the app such as calendar sharing, widgets and calendar editing like we can do on the website. Thx Proton.Version: 2.3.0
WidgetThe calendar is great but needs a widget. To be able to view the date on the icon would be huge. Not needing to open the app just to check the date. A widget that replaces I calendar would be a game changer. When I receive an email confirming any sort of appointment or meeting there is no direct link to add to proton calendar. Seeing that be a thing I. The next year would also be a game changer.Version: 2.7.0
My first time using a calendar appLike I said before, this is my first time actually using a calendar app, and so far I’m really enjoying it. Visually, I like this app way better then the default calendar app, it’s just more appealing to me. I also like the privacy policy that Proton has compared to other services. I saw that widgets are on the way, and I’m excited for them! I’d recommend this app to my friends!.Version: 2.5.0
HaphazardThis is a good app by a good company that unfortunately releases new features before completing old ones. Trivial old ones no less; such as being able to edit the calendar an event falls under after it’s been entered on mobile. Use the Proton ecosystem but expect a future fraught with areas of incompleteness amidst a terribly slow and unfocused development cycle. Furthermore, for Proton to be OK with this. This makes the $100/year they charge for a paid account difficult to not experience buyers regret over..Version: 2.3.0
Scrolling and scrollingWhat’s with having scroll, scroll, scroll through months, days, years when you want to reschedule something instead of bringing up an actual calendar so you can choose the date you need to move it to? I have to back out of the edit, look at the monthly calendar to pick the new date, then go back to edit and scroll forever to move it to that new date..Version: 2.2.0
Great product!I have always been hesitant to use calendar apps because of the info gathering by unscrupulous companies. I just started using a this calendar and it works very well. The highlights I would say are 1. no data harvesting, 2. easy and intuitive, 3. able to set the time for alert notifications. The reason I gave a 4 star instead of 5 is because I cant share my calendar with other Proton Calendar users..Version: 2.7.0
Needs help before it’s usableThis app is missing to main features that make it unusable for me: Edit a reoccurring meeting and invite others to a meeting event. The use case: I use my protonmail account for my business and want to use the calendar app for a single reoccurring meeting with a client. I set the meeting up on my desktop through the browser, added a brave talk link, invited the client, and set it to repeat monthly. Often the client and I email ahead of this meeting to confirm if that time still works for us, we may shift it out a week or a few days. I cannot accomplish this on my phone with the reoccurring event. I can set up a new meeting that is standalone but I’m not able to invite the client to the new event, and i am unable to cancel the single event of the recurring meeting so we both see it’s canceled..Version: 2.6.0
No ability to share calendar invites from the app.Good interface, shows promise, but the inability to share calendar events makes it useless (practically speaking) if you’re using Proton for business, much less for personal use cases. This functionality is however available through a desktop browser, which is a workaround if you can’t migrate to another service. A similar service (from Tutanota) offers the ability to add in-app invitees to calendar events..Version: 2.4.0
Want to like the calendarI am an avid user of Apple calendar. I love the proton brand however, I feel this application is not quite ready for me to use it as a full replacement for my current set up. Here’s a couple of things to point out: 1. Crashes when you try to set up more than one notification. 2. There is no function for adding invitations. I would at least be able to add an invite, where would email them the ICS file is not possible..Version: 2.4.0
Good app, needs ability to add participantsGood features in the app, but I don’t understand why it doesn’t allow you to add participants in the iOS version. It can added using the web version, so why not in the app? I’ve been a paying Proton customer for several years and really enjoy the full product line. The calendar app is a good next step in data privacy, but it needs a few extra features..Version: 2.2.0
SuggestionLove this company and all their apps are great. One thing I would really like to see with the calendar app is a search option. Please please please!.Version: 2.5.0
Excellent Ap but a couple of quibblesI think this is so close to being perfect. A couple of quibbles. 1. You can’t edit reoccurring events on the app you have to use the desktop site. 2. An Apple Watch app and complication would be extremely nice so I can glance at my watch and know what’s next. (This is way more important in my opinion over a CarPlay widget which exists for some reason).Version: 2.21.0
Everything’s excellent beside one thingGreat calendar, nice and clean ui, but it would be really perfect if it had widgets.Version: 2.15.0
Great, but…The widget could be much better. As of now, there’s no reason for me to use the Proton Calendar widget over the Apple widget. Make it as good as Apple’s..Version: 2.16.0
WidgetKüçük kare widget olmalı..Version: 2.16.0
SafeSecure and good calendar.Version: 2.16.0
Waiting for locationAll of Proton’s apps are good. I can see they’re making progress. But no location search for calendar is pretty much a deal breaker for me. It’s basically a note, not even a link to Apple or Google maps. Not sure what I’m supposed to do with that. Not helpful by any means..Version: 2.16.0
Awesome appAll I would say it needs is a search feature and maybe a zoomed out feature to look at all the months of the year and where all the dates line up day of the week wise, otherwise amazing application and is my day to day calendar just makes it difficult to plan sometimes if you work shift work and hard to find dates ahead of time.Version: 2.13.2
It worksWorks okay. Missing a lot of features that I use daily on desktop such as duplicating events, drag and drop to change time, and touching a time to add an event, which are great inconveniences..Version: 2.14.0
Icon always says 31The Home Screen icon always says 31 rather than showing the correct date. Font size in calendar also very small and doesn’t seem to have way to adjust..Version: 2.14.0
Enfin on peut éditer les événementsBravo.Version: 2.13.0
Widgets?App itself is really nice with some great views but no widgets makes this a non-starter for me unfortunately. Hope to see them added in the future..Version: 2.12.1
The event description field doesn’t support multi line entryThe iPhone app doesn’t support multi-line entry / entering new line in the calendar event description field. Reported that to the support, they replied this is by design, not a bug. However, the web client does support multiple line entry no problem..Version: 2.13.0
Please we need an Ipad AppHi proton team, we need an iPad app ASAP! I love all your apps so far, but the calendar is meaningless if I can only check it on my iphone or in web..Version: 2.12.1
IPad support please! The overall ecosystem is great and could definitely rival with tech giants, but please,an iPad tailored version of this app is definitely required!.Version: 2.12.0
Almost perfectAll they gotta add is something similar to google tasks.Version: 2.12.0
The Perfect Calendar App - Online OnlyI’ve had this calendar app for a while, and it’s been great watching it improve with changes like how events show in monthly view, and adding different colours for events is a big game changer in how useable the app is for me. With the addition of the options for colours for events, making looking at your monthly view way less of a one coloured blur, this calendar app has gotten to the same point of functionality for me that I loved using google calendar for, but with all the added security and privacy of Proton. My only gripes are small, and do not deter me from using the app, though for people without access to monthly data, it might. The calendar is only able to be updated with new events or have current events edited and saved when connected to either wifi or data, you cannot add or edit anything when entirely offline. I’m lucky enough with my phone provider that this isn’t a problem for me, but I can see it being a headache for others. My much much smaller gripe is that when you create an event and select “all day” for duration, once you click save and the calendar goes back to day view, it’ll go to the day prior to the one you made an event for. So if you select the 20th, make an all day event, click save, it’ll go back to day view on the 19th. As a one off, just an annoyance, but if you’re scheduling multiple all day events, it gets a bit cumbersome. Other than that, this app fulfills all my mobile calendar needs, and I find it to be an easy and comfortable app to use..Version: 2.12.0
Great but…When are you guys going to get the iPad version up and running? The phone version on the iPad is horrendous and difficult to use on the road..Version: 2.7.0
A very innovative concept, but…..I do have the appreciation for the innovative approach for the idea of a Proton calendar. Kudos, Proton!!! 👏🏼👏🏼 The gains in productivity with the essential feature of privacy that comes with it!! Fantastic!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I do have to admit though that I often wonder why Proton didn’t integrate the calendar with the ProtonMail app. Considering how the events and invites are being automatically exported from Proton mail to the calendar anyways. I would and will give a 5 star rating to see this one day..Version: 2.11.0
Invite Attendees/Participants is a basic function missingI love Proton and the principles they stand on. But please allow us to invite participants within the app, like this is a basic calendar function. I get it needs access to phone contacts but the proton mail app for iOS has this function so I’m not sure why calendar doesn’t yet..Version: 2.7.0
Calendar widgetPlease get a widget.Version: 2.6.0
No weekly viewUnfortunately this is a key feature for me that’s still missing in the app. I won’t use a calendar app if it doesn’t have a weekly view feature - I’m disappointed this still isn’t implemented :/.Version: 2.6.1
Almost perfectJust add the option to attach a file/photo please..Version: 2.2.0
WidgetGreat app, can you add widget feature?.Version: 2.5.0
GreatAwesome app Is it gonna be available for the iPad?.Version: 2.5.0
Please redesign the monthly calendar view on iPhone to show more infoI love how all of protons apps are so privacy oriented but I can’t use your calendar app b/c the monthly view does not show any information other than the dots to indicate a scheduled event. Please redesign the monthly view to show a brief snippet of the daily event. Being able to see a whole month at a glance is such a time saver. I am currently using Google Calendar because b/c of this reason but I would switch in a heartbeat if I had a better alternative. Thanks for your time. Also, are there any plans to add a calendar widget to iOS in the near future? It would be very convenient to view my tasks without having to always open up the app. Thanks..Version: 2.4.0
Proton is great and I like the calendarThe only complaint I have right now is that I’d like to have a monthly view like the website where you can see each day and the event without clicking on the day..Version: 2.0.3
We finally have a calendarFolks at Proton, keep up the good work. Love the calendar app. Looking forward to what is coming next..Version: 2.0.4
Nice, and a Good StartThank you for this, looking forward to using this calendar more and more..Version: 2.0.3

Just one thing: to add/edit an entry offlineIt would be near-perfect if, just like in google calendar, u can add/edit an entry offline and then once online again it will save, etc. Right now it actually gives an error msg when doing this at the moment..Version: 2.0.2
Love it!I’ve been a proton mail user for years and am looking forward to the day i can fully ditch the google suite of apps. The only reason I’m rating three stars is because of the inability to import events (or link an existing calendar account), along with some other quality-of-life features that icloud calendar and google calendar have already for example..Version: 2.0.2
Great optionLove this safe and secure option for a calendar. The one thing I would love to see is a search bar for the appointments where you can’t remember the date. Otherwise it is fantastic!.Version: 2.0.2
