Switched from another paid extensionI was using one for years that worked pretty well but the dev did minimal updates and it started having a ton of issues.. been using Noir for many months now and it seems much better so far and you can tell the developer takes pride in their work, happy to see frequent improvements over time that add useful features and fix bugs. Most importantly the dark theme it generates for websites look excellent and nearly native, without big slowdowns and crashes that I’ve experienced with others. The only minor issue has been that it falsely detects native dark modes sometimes, but I see a reporting tool has been added and it’s easy to override this as well. Lastly I’ll mention the interface is attractive and simple within safari and has some advanced features I’ll definitely make use of, great work! Highly recommended..DanyyulVersion: 2026.1

Tints every site, but I have to turn it off often.Pros. I haven’t found a website it won’t tint! The setup and customization is easy & makes sense. Con’s. This app may be limited to users seeking high customizability & who want to tint websites without loosing their individual aesthetics. After following the setup prompts to the T I’ve found safari to be running much slower. Some visual & functional elements can get blocked which also seems to exacerbate the slowdown. I find that on websites with custom scrolling behaviors, moving art & transitions that at times this app just covers much of that that in the background color but isn’t able to effectively tint the type in order to make it legible. I find I’m constantly turning it off to let websites load images and content, or sometimes when using Shopify stores being unable to click store buttons when it is enabled. Also as it doesn’t have an option to tint web links I find it just makes search engine results feel more cluttered as links are still bright blue instead of the desired theme. I may be more picky than most when it comes to these things. Overall one of the better dark screen options for safari on iPhone. Great on iOS but …I purchased the Noir app for my iPhone and iPad immediately after Apple launched iOS 15 and I have been very happy with it. About a month ago, I bought my first Macbook . One of the first things I did while setting up my laptop was attempt to restore Noir to Safari from my iPhone/iPad to the Macbook. I figured it would be a simple process, especially because of Apple’s integration of iOS apps with the M1 Macs. Unfortunately, it quickly became obvious that if I wanted Noir on my Macbook, I would have to buy it again. I don’t have alot of money and It took me a year to save up for the Macbook so this was a disappointment. I have not purchased Noir for my Macbook yet and I probably won’t, simply because I can’t afford it nor can I justify the expense to myself. I already bought it. I’ll be looking into alternatives, but I am fairly sure that no other option will compare to Noir. Still, I can’t afford it. Just because I own a Macbook Air doesn’t mean I have cash to spare in order to buy something I already purchased. Bought it, without knowing the garden.I was looking through “Safari Extensions” one day as I never really used them before, then came along ‘Noir’. The $1.99 (give or take $1) sort of made me think if it was worth paying, but I gave it a whirl. While I personally only have issues on the sights that contain vivid white imagery to convey their UI, other sites work marvelously with Noir. I, a student, find this also a cheeky way to “hide” what I’m reading from other classmates because some can snoop and as I’m the only one with the iPad it’s sorta awkward. My favorite feature is when you’re editing a theme you get a random Noir-related news company with a newspaper style story about the theme. Haha, what a nice touch! It just refreshes whenever the control center is toggled I’ve found. Sorta wish it was a system wide feature but that is beyond any iOS app capability. Amazing app for dark modeOne dark night while surfing the web, I was blinded by a bright white web page… That’s how my story with Noir starts, and most likely how you ended up here reading this, after that final, annoying last straw, I started looking into dark mode extensions for Safari. The best Dark Mode extension on both iOS and MacOSAfter trying several extensions to enable dark mode, I read a suggestion online to give Noir a shot. After several months of use, I can confidently say that Noir is the best Dark mode extension on iOS. You have the open to set a default on what dark mode appearance you prefer, and you can choose to either pause the effect or turn it off on a page by page basis. You can also report a webpage not adjusting correctly to the devs and it tends to fix itself rather quickly. The best part about Noir is that your customization choices sync across iCloud. So when I discovered Noir on macOS, it was a no brainer to install because all of my preferences are automatically applied cross platform. It’s not a resource hog at all, and the interface in iOS and Mac are easy to access and change. I donated to the dev on top of payment just because this app is such a great design. Remember forum based pet sims?Wanted the ability to set dark mode- simply show black instead of white backgrounds, swap black font colors to white. Other than that, I wanted it out of the way; a real set and forget type deal. This is so much more, automatically synching to both my iPads. Only setting it to do what I want had been simple. I’m giddy-pleased with the ability to set the font color for when it triggers: bland pages now render black with lime green text. This triggers font color most often, sometimes when there’s a button-fill color. (Be careful choosing what colors you pick! Great Extension! Would love an Auto change feature around night shiftI really like this extension, and it’s super useful and very similar to extensions I use on my computer for the same purpose. However, one downside is that I would rather be able to have websites auto darken based on my phones Night Shift setting, as opposed to just Dark Mode. I tend to keep Dark Mode on all day for personal tastes, but still prefer websites to be their normal themes until it’s darker outside and the whites become flash bangs. One of the best purchases I’ve made on the App Store in 13 years.I really mean that! It feels like the internet has been fixed. It’s hard to explain just how much better browsing the web feels. Like others say, you will run into the occasional site that may not work correctly, but this is typically not the fault of the Noir, but the fault of the website itself. Only takes about 6 seconds to disable on a per-site basis when it does happen, and sometimes the customization to find a theme that fits just right with a site you visit often can be fun. Works, with some strange behaviorIt works as advertised and makes nighttime browsing way easier on the eyes. However, some website content becomes unusable with it enabled, like the map on Craigslist. I also have security concerns… it occasionally asks to have access to ALL websites even though I’ve specifically only allowed access to certain websites, and does this in a subversive manner with the prompts. I also have the excessive redirects and random page reloading issue that other users report here. I had my credit card info stolen recently, and wonder if this app had anything to do with that despite what the creator says in response to reviews here. Noir is The Best BUT check iPhone settingsMarvelous app. Worthwhile. Has Muliple mode theme settings that applies various color combinations, can ignore website's own dark mode and enable Noir's own dark mode instead. But be aware of iPhone's settings Smart Invert and Classic Invert (Settings/Accessability/Display and Text Size/Smart Invert or Classic Invert). Enabling either settting may or may not interfere with Noir settings. Classic Invert completely reverses everything, makes page light and images dark. Completely overrides Noir. Smart Invert changes some but not all on the page. Good but imperfectNoir was what I started using with Safari on iOS but there are websites it doesn’t work on. Since Firefox with Dark Reader is my primary configuration on desktop computers, it made sense to try their iOS app. I found that most of the websites that don’t work in Noir work in Dark Reader, and most of the sites that don’t work in Dark Reader work in Noir, so instead of switching I now have Dark Reader turned on by default and Noir turned off by default, and when I encounter a website that doesn’t darken, a few taps creates an exception for it in both extensions. Ideally one would be able to handle every website but nothing is ever that simple. Very few websites slip through both, so I’m pretty content with the setup..Yurt_HerderVersion: 2026.1.2

Exactly how it should beFor as long as dark mode has been out, it’s been extremely frustrating to open up Safari and have it not be in dark mode. Amazing app, absolutely worth the money.Love this app so much. It’s a one time price, not a monthly fee. It’s smart enough to automatically work on sites that need it and it will ignore sites that already use other dark mode settings. You can configure the background color in settings as well and choose from different shades/colors. You can configure specific sites individually. Buying it on my iPad also allowed me to use it on my iPhone. This has made reading in bed at night so much better. Issues detecting dark sites?I’ve noticed a lot of the time, several sites will be bright white. I’ll go into Noir, and it won’t say anything (other than show the site options as Default). I’ll have to force close (swipe up) safari and reopen it, then Noir will say it detects an active existing dark theme and I can then choose to ignore it and it darkens the site fine. I’m having to do that more often than I’d like. Still rating this 5 stars, this may very well be a Safari issue as it tends to have weird issues with some of my extensions for who knows what reason but not like I have a browser choice after all.*insert nickname here**Version: 2025.1.4

I legit want to pay more for this app!!I’ve tried my fair share of “dark mode” apps and userstyles and extensions across iOS and on the desktops with different browsers, and I’ve literally never seen a dark mode nailed to this degree. Very Much Worth It!At first I was hesitant to drop money on this app, especially since there aren’t enough ratings and reviews to display said ratings and reviews. Not Monitoring AnythingWhen you buy and allow noir to use safari a little pop up appears. While the pop up does look odd cause it talks about noir possibly gathering information like history and passwords which is not the case. I emailed Jeff (developer of Noir) and he assured me that it is not the case. He also sent there privacy policy which is super easy and understandable to read. So far all of the websites i’ve looked at on my phone have been well dark. For 3$ Id buy it again just to keep the strain off my eyes. Glad I finally got this appIve been looking at noir off an on for about a year now, but always just kept putting it off as I didnt use safari enough on my iPhone to constitute buying it and it doesn’t work with my browser of choice. Love the app. Used for feels like years… butBeen a Noir user for a long time. It has always typically worked very well. But for the last 6-8 months I’ve noticed so many website crashes. Where it gives you the repeatedly problem page and then you have to reload the webpage. And then it gets into a loop. So ultimately I just don’t view the page and move on. Sure I can temp turn off Noir but what’s the point then if I’m having to do it daily on multiple pages. I emailed Jeffery today for help and he got back to me and answered my question which really helped. I also asked if I can set this to have it enabled only during certain hours. Private browsing dataWith this extension turned on, if you are using a private browsing tab, the data still gets saved. For example, if you go to a website in a private tab with the extension enabled, you will find the corresponding data saved in settings -> safari -> advanced -> website data. I like more NoirI’ve just purchased the app, but so far I’m very satisfied with it. I like the fact that we can alter the colors within a theme or create our own personal themes. One suggestion, if possible, would be to also allow us to choose the text color and brightness for embedded links. In my experiences, so far, those links can be in a color that’s complementary to the background and seem to be dimmer. Definitely surprisedI was a little hesitant on purchasing without even a 1 day trial, my main concern was whether or not the colors would be inverted and not look natural. 95% PerfectI love Noir and use it daily to force dark mode in Safari — it works beautifully for 95% of websites. But Google’s new highlighted text (the AI answer highlights using Scroll to Text Fragment) causes major readability issues — the highlight often shows up unreadable or clashes badly with the forced dark from Nior app. Let users add custom CSS on iOS Safari. Bright Flashes When sites LoadI purchased Noir and put it to use for several weeks of nighttime Safari browsing. I wanted to love Noir but I now use a different extension. Problem is, Noir allows a bright, all-screen, white flash fairly often, I believe whe n switching tabs or first loading a site. Its a dealbreaker for me. The issue has been reported by others in Reddit but dismissed by the app creator as ‘inevitable’. I’m not trying to be a jerk, just factual when I disagree. In the same Reddit thread, users mentioned that Nitefall and another extension work without flashing, so I tried Nitefall. Utter DarknessAfter the dev released an update to add pure black mode for OLED perfection, I had to leave a review. Despite this app being relatively new, as iOS Safari extensions has only recently been introduced, Noir is already one of my favorite utilities. Works, but Grammarly extension breaks it!I went through and was installing several extensions at once and was very pleased with how well Noir works. The very next extension I installed after Noir was Grammarly and it immediately stopped letting me load the full websites with Noir. After disabling Grammarly, everything started working again. Absolute game changer.Considering how well this extension works, it’s really a shame Apple doesn’t allow in-app Safari windows to use extensions. When I’m using another app that has to open a webpage I need to open Safari itself to use Noir, which I do, almost every time, when I’m in dark mode. It doesn’t work very well with Reddit right now, but considering their track record… that’s Reddit’s fault. More granular control, please!I love this extension, but I'd like more granular control: I want to use a custom theme on a website, but the custom theme makes the forum section of the same website unreadable. I want to be able to exclude that part of the website from having the theme applied. It's great, just works.I was using another Safari dark mode extension (Dark Night) for a few years but it broke many websites when it was engaged and so I often had to turn it off just to submit a form, open a menu, or a get a user login to work. Noir - Dark Mode for Safari Negative Reviews

Was great at first…I have no idea what happened, but when I installed this thing it was fantastic. After countless updates, where things got progressively worse and worse, I now have an extension that I have to turn off on 50% of pages. At best it just reverses all of the colors.. yeah the background turned black, but all of these dark images and backgrounds turned bright white. At worst it makes all of the lights dark, and leaves the darks dark. I get a black page with black text and images. Strangely, it does this across ALL of the devices I have it installed on, so I don’t think it is a settings or installation issue. Not sure what to do anymore. I have disabled it, because white is far less annoying than unreadable. Although white is pretty annoying, so I will try this again in a few months..Signals42Version: 2022.3.1

Good in theoryI have debilitating vestibular migraines and lights trigger extreme vertigo, especially white screens. I was relieved to find and purchase this app and really had my hopes up. Unfortunately, it only works about 60% of the time on Safari. Either the website won’t be on dark mode at all, or it will glitch and be dark but the rest of the website is gone, or the website will appear dark and then abruptly change back to bright white after 30 seconds or so (very frustrating and triggers my nausea and vomiting). If you are planning on relying on this like I was, don’t make the same mistake. If you’re fine with it only working sometimes and still having to pay for it, then go for it. It was amazing, ruined by updates!Update, well it was working just fine but after several updates it no longer works correctly. The image darkener option always is on and does not turn off unless in the setting application. But it turns back on after each update. Also it does not work per website.
