Runna: Running Plans & Coach App Comments & Reviews
Runna: Running Plans & Coach Positive Reviews
LoveThis is the best marathon training app I’ve found so far! It’s way better than the Garmin Coach. It pushes me more than any other training I’ve ever done. I am using the app for my third marathon. The first two I used a generic training plan from online. I love how much the workouts are pushing me and increasing my speed and endurance. It’s something I never would have done without the app. I’m trying to do all my own self training just because a personal coach isn’t in my budget. This app is very reasonable for a year subscription and I’m only on week 4 but getting so much value out of it! I can’t wait to see what my marathon performance is after using it!! I can already feel that I’m significantly faster than I was just 4 weeks ago, training without any real conditioning/speed workouts or pace targets. Since having pace targets, my speed has changed immensely. The app is so easy to navigate. I love that I can switch around all my workouts to fit my schedule each week. I like the AI insights after each completed workout. I love that I can see all my workouts up until race day. I love that it does NOT adapt to my watch sleep/body battery. I know my body better than my watch does and that was my biggest complaint with the Garmin coach. This app allows me to do the workouts when I’m ready and recovered and constantly challenges me without being unachievable. I highly recommend!!! It’s the best marathon specific training app I’ve found so far!.Version: 8.3.2
Complete Training that makes Sense!I’m an ultrarunner and I have tried SO many diff training programs. There’s no shortage so how do you know which one(s) are good for you? Since each runner is different, I feel like each program fits uniquely. Some won’t work. For me, I needed specificity. I’m very type A and I want numbers. I want to know exactly what my training plan is. It’s how I do best. Runna gives me that. It takes into account your history and current fitness level as well as what your goals are. I put in my A race for this year and it created a program using all the info provided that is perfect for me! There are diff types of runs and each workout can be done outdoors or on the treadmill. If on the mill, it gives you speed and distance and shows you exactly where you are during the workout. You can also manually add workouts. The plan is so spot on that other races that I am running prior to my A race fit right into the plan for miles. I have my own strength training program but Runna also offers strength and flexibility training to compliment your running and give you a well balanced training regiment. I started with the free version but easily made the choice to go to the paid version. I feel it’s well worth it for the benefits I am getting. I feel well prepared for my events and I can see progress over the weeks. This will be an app that I keep past my race this year and will continue to use for other races. My running is part of who I am and Runna helps me get the most out of it. I enjoy this app so much and highly recommend it. 👍🏻👍🏻.Version: 6.11.0
I love Runna!!I am so grateful for Runna!! I just finished my first half marathon today and my time was 1:55, which was at the lower end of my predicted race time :) I love not having to think about how to construct my tempo and interval runs, and the flexibility of the app (being able to update your current race times to update your pace targets, and to move workouts around) is great. As I've learned more about running I have sometimes adapted Runna's suggestions, which includes adding in a couple of easy cycling sessions a week to increase my overall aerobic volume and get closer to an 80/20 easy/hard split (running 5 days/30 miles a week Runna's suggestions are typically closer to a 70/30 or 60/40 split). To that end I would love if Runna could incorporate an ability to add cross-training workouts to your weekly plan, and if they could add a feature where you could see your weekly easy/moderate/hard breakdown by projected time. It would also be cool to be able to see a graph showing how your planned volume changes over the course of a training plan. Would also appreciate a negative split race timing feature! But other than those tiny things, I love everything about Runna and can't wait to use it to train for races in the future!! (Customer service has been great, also. And it works super well with my Suunto Race S watch!).Version: 6.21.1
Incredible for structured training - some consRunna is fantastic for many reasons. I love that it builds a plan for you with scheduled runs, workouts, and more that you can tailor to fit your needs and lifestyle. For me, that's a massive help towards reaching my goals! I don't have to think about planning out my runs or what I'm going to do. I let the experts handle that and I just go out and do it. It really is like having a coach. I suppose the price is not bad for that, but you can't really get feedback, so that's a con. But there are many options for workouts to supplement your runs, which I love! I used it to train for my first half marathon and while I was set back by an injury, I did manage to hit my personal goal. That's perhaps another con. Runna will account for vacations and adapt your training plan to accommodate those, but there isn't a similar option to easily adapt the plan for injury. You can go in and customize the plan to ease up on the load (which is what I did), but you have to proceed at your own discretion. You can skip workouts but I hate doing that lol. It does allow you to change up the plan to add in workouts you've missed, but I've never tried that. My last beef with Runna is that it does not count any free runs (any run you do outside of the runs they plan for you) into the total mileage of your plan. It acts like they don't exist and it really bothers me haha. So if that would be fixed I honestly would give it five stars..Version: 8.4.0
Next best thing to a Running CoachI can’t say enough good things about this app. It takes all the stress out of building a training plan for my races, allowing me to focus on the actual running. As a newbie to marathon racing, this app helped me complete my first marathon, and I felt supported every step of the way. I even finished with a respectable time for my first race! One of my favorite features is the post-race recovery plan. It keeps you active without losing momentum, which was key to my smooth recovery. Now, as I train for my second marathon, I’m seeing significant improvements in my performance. While diet, sleep, and recovery all play a role, I know this app has been instrumental in keeping me consistent and on track. The app’s flexibility is another major plus. You can easily rearrange workouts within the week to fit your schedule, and it adapts well to your time constraints. It even provides helpful explanations for key running terms, which is great if you're learning the ropes. Once I finish my second marathon in December, I’m planning to use the maintenance program while I scout my next race. If you’re serious about your running goals, this app is a must-have! It’s straightforward, user-friendly, and makes training much less overwhelming. Highly recommend giving it a try—you won’t regret it..Version: 6.16.1
I love it!I’m a fairly beginner runner. I lifted for many years with the last five or so focusing on powerlifting. But as a PhD student, I stopped having the physical and mental energy for super heavy lifting that took 2+ hours (not to mention the time to program it!). A fellow student suggested I try running for exercise. I loved how I could shut off my brain and so my journey began! I started with no program at all and then decided to train for a 10k using the free garmin program. Then I saw people talking about Runna. What really attracted me was that I could add strength workouts. I really wanted to do more lifting again, but running focused so I could help with injuries, and I felt overwhelmed with where to start. I decided to give Runna a try. I LOVE it. Besides being able to add strength, mobility, and Pilates (which have helped with my hip/ lower back pain) I LOVE how the pace goals are actually MY PERSONAL pace goals. Garmin used these very general paces that weren’t ones I could hit (so therefore basically had no pace goals) and it never updated based on my training for the 17 weeks I used it. Having true pace goals that I can achieve with Runna has helped me train harder and made me feel accomplished at the end of each run. I also love how the runs vary each week. Another perk is how easy it is to move workouts around! It’s so user friendly! I started on a monthly plan, but by the end of my free two weeks, I changed to an annual plan! I will be using Runna for the foreseeable future and tell everyone I know about how great it is! Oh, AND the customer service is amazing. I had a simple question and they answered it right away and followed up to make sure I didn’t need anything else. It’s honestly perfect!.Version: 7.5.0
A lot of good and a lot to improvedFirst the good: the UI is gorgeous and much more helpful than the watchOS workout app. The feedback is also great while running. I use it without the phone and it gives me a pretty clear view of what is going on. The requests: - please use the action button correctly. I hate not being able to do a precision start and having to wait for the 3-2-1. Please make better use of all the buttons at our disposal when we have an ultra. - for me it was very hard to explain the right plan since I stop running for a full month for vacation. I want to run a half marathon in 3 months but the first week workouts were way too hard for someone who stop yet there isn’t anyway to adapt the workouts. What I mean by that is that I may be too out shape to balde the workouts right now but in 30 days they will probably Seem too easy and I don’t see anyway for the app to adapt to my actual fitness. It could use my health history in the health app to adapt the workouts also. I wish the effort rating came with a suggestion like in Apple workout. A lot of potential on the app but you probably need to use more of the health information to adapt the workouts to the user reality. Also the feedback seems way too nice, I couldn’t even finish the workout and it acted like I completed a marathon lol..Version: 8.38.1
BEST choice for the ambitious, consistent, and less-injury-prone runner.I've tried several semi-tailored running plan apps and strategies. My favorite so far has been Runna, with Run with Hal as the runner up. I'm liking Runna better because I can actually use it in between races with its maintenance plans. I've never been able to justify a full-year subscription to RWH because there's not much to do with it between races, but with Runna it's useful every month of the year. Then the icing on the cake (and it's a LOT of icing) is that Runna auto-syncs my workouts to my Garmin. Then the Ice cream on the icing is the personal support from actual coaches. That alone makes the app worth it. Oh, almost forgot. The powdered sugar on the ice cream is that the plans get as ambitious as you want. I have a pipe dream of running a 100miler some day, and it's nice to know this app can take me there. I haven't used that feature yet, but I'm sure it'll be great to have some day. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to move a workout to a different day, but I figured it out. I do wish I could edit the workouts in Garmin, or at least make small tweaks in the Runna app. Finally, and this is not patently a pro or con, Runna has provided the most challenging training plans. Arguably not enough easy runs, but also arguably a great blend for people who are less injury prone..Version: 3.5.3
Has helped me, but aggressive with limited customizationWhy can’t I set zero pace goals for my long runs? If I get sick, why don’t I always have the option to extend my training plan instead of cutting off days? Why does Runna assume any distance is possible for any person as long as it’s at a “conversational pace”? That summarizes my biggest complaints. However, Runna has really helped me improve. Some of those too-long, long runs I surprised myself by completing. I went from two miles max distance after an injury up to a 10k. I have to give Runna a lot of credit for that. Much of the time, the workouts are the right amount of challenge. I like the cadence of easy, long, and pace runs each week. If I could edit any workout to change the distance or pace goals, this would take care of basically all my complaints. Yes, it’s great that I can run a 10k now, but setting truly unattainable requirements is also going to demoralize me. For example, my best 10k time ever is probably about 13.5 min/mile. Yet the app thinks I can run 7.5 miles two weeks from now with sub-12 minute mile pace goals. Thats just not realistic. Am I meant to fail this so the app can adjust the plan? I dont like that idea but I’d be open to it if there was any indication this was intended..Version: 8.21.0
Solid running plan appGood variety of training plans. Adaptable to schedule. I like that you can incorporate strength and pilates although I do wish strength workouts incorporated more classic lifts (barbell bench, squat, deadlift) but this is just personal preference. Another potential area for improvement is adding running drills (a-skip, b-skip, etc). Integrates nicely with apple and garmin devices. Pace goals change about every week based on performance or (seemingly) skipped workouts. I’d love to be able to set race date for an event in distance future (ie 50km race ~1yr out) and then it gives you workouts leading up to that race. Unfortunately seems like 29 weeks is max so i did separate fitness building plan until I reach that date.) would be nice to be able to set it and forget it and have it coach you up to that race day. It’s on pricey side but when you compare to a McMillan 8 weeks plan for ~35 bucks with no pace target integration it pretty much evens out. Also, wish that strava integration didnt upload with a Runna tag and blow up my spot for being an app head but that’s just me being picky. Ultimately, very satisfied with workouts and performance improvements which is the ultimate goal..Version: 7.28.1
Great concept, iffy executionFirst off, the idea behind the app is amazing. I would still suggest it to people to use. I love the personalization and the detailed metrics along with the syncing feature on my Apple Watch. What I find a great amount of issue is the bugs within the app itself. Primarily, the Watch app. You either have to chose your phone or your watch to record your run. You won’t get as good of metrics on your phone but it will sync to your headphones 100% of the time. I personally like the watch due to the interval training screen on my watch so I don’t have to pull out my phone constantly when running. HOWEVER! My big big big issue with the app, is that the app on my watch will pick and chose when it wants to connect the prompts on my headphones (AirPods). When I’m doing interval that gets super frustrating. I’d really like the regular prompts to notify me since they switch every .25 to .10 miles and I always have to check to see if I’m on pace or not. However I don’t want to sacrifice the details of my runs and it’s really frustrating. There is limited options in the settings on the watch to make this work and I have not seen anything to help the issue. I generally think if I’m paying $20 a month for a service like this I shouldn’t have these many issues to be honest..Version: 4.2.12
My new best friendI'm obsessed with Runna! I'm 4 weeks into my full marathon training plan. I've completed two half marathons before this, and knew I needed extra motivation and extra training help to get to the next level. This app is exactly what I needed. The app offers a way to incorporate strength training and mobility training if desired, which has helped me and my confidence so much. I put in my last half-marathon time when building the plan. After the first week of training with Runna, the app reviewed my workouts so far and suggested I aim for a slightly faster pace for the full marathon. I'm enjoying the challenge, knowing that I'm right where I'm supposed to be - and the app will tell me if I need to adjust! I don't have a fitness watch so I just use my phone, and every run is fully guided and keeps me on pace. The variety of runs, techniques, warmups and cool-downs is amazing and makes me feel like I'm working with a coach in real life. I just love it so much, I can't say enough about it. In short, it's worth it, especially if you have a goal in mind and need some schedule or motivation to get there. 10/10 - Thanks Runna team!!.Version: 7.27.0
Worth it, but be prepared to pay $120Wanted to train for a half marathon this spring and was suggested this app. When you first sign up, you're prompted to opt-in for the premium version of the app for a free 1-week trial. I decided to skip that since I'm cheap but was unaware you are given the free trial anyway. I was blown away at how accessible and thorough the "free" version was because there are so many nice features and a guided training schedule. It wasn't until my first week was over that almost everything is restricted and you can barely use the free version of the app. But I really wanted to do this half marathon and I REALLY liked all the features of the app that I was already experiencing so I decided to bite the bullet and just pay. You can either do the $20/month option or the $120 for the year (short term, /month makes sense I guess but if you what to make a hobby of running, the yearly cost is obviously much better). Overall, if you want to reach a running goal and you just want an app to tell you what to do on how to get there, this is it but be prepared to pay $120. But so far I think it's worth it!.Version: 8.23.0
Finally got me into runningI have tried so many different running plans and apps and every time my motivation has died just from the plans being too vague (not giving suggested paces/no rigid plan just “run for 20 mins”) or just too demanding (immediately starts with running 3 miles). I have always been consistent with working out (yoga, lifting, and hiking) but I have always wanted to be a runner just never found a plan to really help motivate and train me well. Runna has gotten me into running and has made it so easy to build my endurance, I am now running 3 miles consistently and feel really good while doing it. I love the regimen I’m on now and will continue to use Runna to get to a 10k, half marathon and maybe a marathon someday! I personally love running with it on a treadmill since it tells you how fast to be running and u can set your treadmill accordingly, I dont run outside much (maybe once every 2 weeks) but it is consistent with distance with the gps. I’ve had no problems with it not connecting/recording with my apple watch. Thank you Runna!.Version: 7.6.0
Somewhat disappointedI’ll start by saying I do like the runs and not having to think about what to do. The timer etc works well and because of that, I’ll keep using the app. Plus I already paid for a year haha. My main problem is it’s not as customizable as I’d like, and when you change your “race date” it doesn’t actually change the plan as it insinuates. Specifically, I had an old injury flare up so I had to pull back on run frequency for a couple of weeks. When I go to reschedule the runs on my plan calendar, there are restrictions on what can be moved where. Ultimately I found a way to override the calendar and record the run anyway, but I wish it could be neatly organized in the calendar. Also, I tried to extend my plan due to the injury by editing the race date to 2 weeks past my original date. It said it was “recalculating” my plan, but in the end all it did was give me 2 weeks of no running and keep all of the runs that were scheduled too close together (because of the injury) close together right before the “race”. In short the workouts themselves are great but the planning is frustrating to say the least, and at the price I expected more..Version: 8.3.0
Solid AppDecided to try this out as part of the Strava bundle. I’m not an experienced runner but had been wanting to get back into it after years of self-programming and little progress (stuck in a rut of running 2-3 miles as fast as I felt like I could). At the end of the day this is a luxury item because anyone can just get out and run. Anyone can research how to get better at running. But where Runna helps me is having a structured plan laid out for me day-by-day and the workouts are automatically loaded to my watch with pace targets that I need to follow. The app will naturally adjust your plan, too, if you’re vesting your pace targets. It’s that extra bit of coaching and accountability for people who have plenty else going on in their life but want to progress without having to think too much about it. Enter your goals, do the workouts, get better. I’m on week 5 of my plan and have already started hitting distance PRs that I would never have attempted if it wasn’t for the workout being planned out and fed to me. Great tool!.Version: 8.19.1
10/10 would recommendLove this app!! The creators definitely seem to care about what the users think. It makes running or strength workout and I love both. Especially with how it’s set up to function during the runs, the app will tell you when to slow down/speed up and will tell you what you have coming up (speed/distance wise) and when to start it. I don’t have to pull out my phone at all when doing something like hill sprints to log that I finished a rep or a set distance and I love that! I don’t like having to check my watch or phone every couple of minutes to check my time/distance and I don’t have to with this because it tell me when I’m halfway as well as gives me my pace and lets me know when I’m finishing up! You can make notes in the exercises for lifting and there’s a video and written out instructional video for each exercise. There are “notes from the coach” telling you what to focus on for both lifts and different runs. Love this app.Version: 6.13.2
Loving it up until … it failed’ve been using Runna for most of the year and initially had a great experience. I completed a 50K plan and recovery plan with excellent results—the app’s adaptive features worked perfectly. However, I ran into a major issue with the 100K plan. Everything was going well until I got COVID in the final weeks of my 16-week training cycle. Unlike the other plans, the 100K plan doesn’t have adaptive adjustment capabilities when you need to pause or modify training. While the support team was friendly and helpful, they couldn’t resolve the core problem: the plan simply can’t adjust for interruptions. This is a critical missing feature, especially for such a long training commitment. I understand product development involves prioritization, but adaptive training should be a fundamental feature before offering ultra-distance plans. The 100K plans feel incomplete without it. Bottom line: Runna is solid for 50K and below, but I can’t recommend it for ultra training plans until they add adaptive functionality for longer distances. Really hoping they prioritize this—the foundation is there, it just needs this essential capability.Version: 8.8.0
Useful and effective training programsI am four weeks into training for my first marathon. So far, I have found Runna to be effective and easy to use. I like how it adjusts the plan based on my tempo and speed runs. The sessions are easy to follow and the audible coaching is nice. I don’t like the robotic voice, though. (I know they say the reason for it is for clarity.) Downsides are the price and the inability to add a race in the middle of your plan. I signed up for a half-marathon that takes place in four weeks. I was hoping to be able to add it to my plan and have my plan adjust slightly to prep me specifically for the half. But when I was experimenting with adding a run, it erased my marathon plan and started a whole new plan. Maybe not a big deal: I’ll just start a new marathon plan after the half. But I worry that it will disrupt my training for the marathon because it will probably say I don’t have enough time to prepare adequately and I will have to skip some weeks. I wish I could retrieve my old marathon plan because the half would have worked fine as one of my long runs..Version: 7.13.2
This app has turned my life aroundNine months ago I had a heart attack and ended up spending the better part of two weeks in the hospital. A couple of months after leaving the hospital, I walked 1/4 mile (400 meters) and was completely exhausted. I took a three-hour nap afterwards to recover. I jokingly referred to that as the start of my “ultramarathon career”. I kept walking, then started running, and in order to better train downloaded the Runna app. It has been life-changing for me. The workouts are at the exact right level of challenging for me and have slowly gotten longer and more intense without overdoing it. I’ve been using it for the past 2.5 months and have increased my “long run” from 4km to 14km, which is more than I could have done BEFORE the heart attack! My muscles are tired but not in agony, my resting heart rate has gone down and my heart rate for similar runs has dropped from 140bpm to around 120bpm. But the best health benefit has been my improved mood and outlook on life. It has been truly transformational. Lastly, I have to give a big shout out to the team at Runna. They are very professional and have been quick to respond to my questions and feedback. They seem like a really great group of people putting out a really great product. I’m thrilled I bought it and have even given two gift subscriptions to my kids who saw my progress and wanted to try it for themselves. Hands down the best app I’ve gotten for my iPhone..Version: 6.3.1
The running app I’ve been looking for this whole time 🥺I’ve used so many different running apps and plans and have had a hard time sticking with any of them due to my inconsistent schedule as a shift worker. I’ve also struggled with how to incorporate strength training in with my running. Runna is the solution to that. Although I do wish I could move some of the days around myself every week to accommodate my varying weekly schedule, it isn’t difficult to adjust your plan by the week in the app as you go. I love that you can pick how many days a week you run, add a strength training routine (with fantastic workouts), and how personalized it is! My favorite feature is that you can sync the workouts to your watch and the running queues show up on the watch so you can leave your phone behind. Also they have some fun playlists. Overall I’m a big fan and stoked to get back into running from square 1 again after recovering from Covid with this tool 😊.Version: 3.3.9
Very well doneThis is my favorite running app. The plan generation is excellent. I got back into running after an injury and the plan smoothly got me back up over 10k without reinjury. The blending of the run types kept it interesting. Wasn’t bored once in my 11-week program. The coach comments are interesting and probably useful, though I didn’t pay too much attention to them. I will try to do that more on my next plan. The app works with you in nice ways - such as recognizing when you are substantially outperforming the suggested runs: it will then offer to adjust your target goal a little bit faster. Another examples is recognizing when you’ve finished a plan and prompting you to setup your next plan. Smart and useful! 2 areas that didn’t work great for me: 1) the pace tracking was very sensitive and kept interrupting my music. I would love this feature but I turned it off because it was too noisy. Maybe it’s possible to adjust it but I didn’t see how to. 2) the Apple Watch integration doesn’t work like other running apps I’ve used. I’d get notified by my watch during a run to ask if I wanted to start a run workout. I ended up always starting runna AND my watch running workout at the beginning of my runs. A little cumbersome. Again, there may be a way to fix this but I didn’t see how. Overall an excellent app and I will keep using it. Great job with the design, workflow and feature set!.Version: 7.16.0
Game-Changing App for New Runners with Big Goals! As a new runner working toward my first full marathon this November, I can’t recommend the Runna app enough! I’ve been using it for 4 weeks now to train for my first 10K this spring, and I’m already seeing incredible improvements. Not only do I feel stronger, but I can track measurable progress in my pace, distance, and heart rate. I naturally have a high heart rate, but this app’s personalized plan has helped me control my breathing and pacing, and my heart rate has been steadily improving. What really sets Runna apart is how it adapts your training plan in near real time based on your data. It’s like having a personal coach in your pocket who actually listens to your progress and makes adjustments as needed. With my goal of running my first 10K, half marathon this summer, and full marathon in the fall, I’m confident that Runna will get me there. It’s perfect for anyone looking to improve their distance, timing, and even running posture. This app is a game-changer!.Version: 7.12.1
I wouldn’t have ran a whole marathon with this app.I had the goal at 40 years old to run my first marathon. I started training using the Hal plan online. I was in knee braces, Hurting, and defeated pretty quickly. The marathon I signed up for sent an email about this app. I got it and never looked back. It keeps me healthy and happy to have the plan tailored for me and the feedback after runs always finds a positive to keep me going even when my run didn’t go as good as maybe i wanted it to. I ran a full marathon. Finished. And even had the life in me for a thirty minute bike ride back to hotel when I couldn’t get an uber. This app kept me pacing myself so that I wasn’t done for at the end. I truly enjoyed the race and the journey as much as you can enjoy something so hard. I am possibly going to run another marathon, but I’m certainly keeping runna for the fun of being outdoors with runs varying so I don’t get bored. Love love love this app. Well worth every penny..Version: 8.19.0
If you’re brand new to running…This is the app you need if you’re brand new to running! I had never run before using Runna and just started back in early October 24’. The app is easy to use and even gives you a strength training program if you wish to do so. You can listen to your music while still being guided during your run and the tips they give at the beginning of each week are very reassuring and informative. I’ll be running my first 5k in a couple of weeks and I am stoked! I missed a run here and there and haven’t kept up w the strength training program, yet I still feel more and more ready for the 5k closer it gets. I love running so much and I believe the easy-to-follow guidance of this app has much to do with that - I’ve stayed motivated and feel good about my progress. Though, I don’t use strava as much, they do connect with each other automatically and both are helpful tools. I’d suggest using both. Good luck!.Version: 7.3.0
Has PotentialI downloaded this app to get back into running and I was looking for something that would just give me a plan so I don’t really have to think of anything. While the app is nice and more or less polished, it becomes frustrating when you miss a workout. I’ve noticed that if I want to complete a run from a previous week, it won’t let me sync it to my watch, I can only start it from the app. Using the app is “fine” if you’re running on the treadmill, but if you start a run from the app, my Apple Watch doesn’t activate the heart rate sensor like it would during a proper workout. What’s even more frustrating is there’s an actual button in the app that says “Reschedule” but it doesn’t do anything, or at least it doesn’t do anything for me. If I could re-schedule a missed workout to a day in the near future, this would be a solid app, but combine that strange missing functionality with a high price tag for, what is essentially a running plan with a robot voice that tries to motivate you, I just don’t think its worth it..Version: 8.4.0
Best running app out there!Runna has been an amazing app. It has helped me smash all of my goals. I have gone from couch to full marathon with this app and I wouldn’t use any other. I absolutely love the pace targets, and how it aligns with your current pace. It pushes you just enough. Not too much not too little. The only improvement I would like to see is being able to use multiple fitness apps at the same time. If I have a run open with another app, I find it hard to continue with Runna. Sometimes it will shut down my run completely and revert to the other app. For example, I like to use the audio cues from Peloton and I will have a run open with that app. But if I start a new workout with peloton it will shut down my run with Runna. It would be nice to be able to have Rohanna open consistently unless I press end on my workout. Everything else with Rohanna has been absolutely phenomenal.! Great job team.!.Version: 8.5.0
Very very good app, with some drawbacksI started using Runna as a way to get back into running after over a decade break. And it worked! It truly is an absolutely amazing app. I can’t find any other like it. I love that it uses the principles of running slow to run fast and can be very customizable. Because of this app, I was able to build up to runs longer than those I ran in my teenage years (albeit slower). I also love being able to add notes to each run and to track my shoe mileage. I highly highly recommend this app for those who need help structuring their training plans. Cons: 1) Though you can rearrange your workouts within a week, you can’t rearrange weeks. For me, I need to de-load during my period week, but the app forces you to de-load every 5th week. I ended up just syncing my runs on separate weeks, but it does mess up training a bit. That’s really annoying and seems like it could be such an easy fix. 2) the weight training isn’t the best. I wish those workouts could be more customizable or at least incorporate the concept of progressive overload. I’d also like to track how much weight I’m lifting in an easier way 3) the price is high. For me, it was absolutely worth it for the first six months or so. But now I’m in the swing of things, and already deviating substantially from my plan, I’ll likely (sadly) cancel the sub. I want to focus on strength training, and so will have to look for a different app (or local gym) for that purpose..Version: 6.26.1
Runna takes training to the next level!I’ve been using Runna to train for my half marathon, and it has quickly become my favorite training tool. The app is incredibly intuitive, and I love how they’re always adding new features and genuinely listening to user feedback. The weekly plans are well-balanced, with speed work, long runs, and mileage-building runs built right in. I also appreciate the option to add strength, stability, mobility, and stretching—choosing the frequency and duration that works best for me. The ability to add B races into my plan and the AI workout insights are features I didn’t even know I needed until I had them. I’ve worked with paid coaches in the past, but since switching to Runna last year, I honestly feel like I’m getting more for a fraction of the cost. The value, flexibility, and guidance this app provides are outstanding, and I can’t recommend it enough to runners of any level..Version: 8.2.0
The best running app out there!I was definitely skeptical about paying for a running app since I’ve used the Nike running app for about a decade. What I’ve enjoyed about the Nike app are the plans and playlists that complement your runs. However, after I did my 1-week trial with Runna, it didn’t even take the entire week for me to realize that Runna took the training program to another level. I was happy to fork over some cash to gain the full user experience I’ve been looking for since I started running long distances. The running plans are fantastic, the communication of your pace throughout a run is awesome, the videos to explain the reasons for the run or how to do things are so helpful, and the small thing of being able to rearrange my week was the cherry on top. I truly cannot speak enough great things about this app. It’s already helped me get back to running a 10K inside of a month. Love it and thank you Runna!.Version: 6.3.1
Great for anyone that wants to improve their runningI got Runna in October 2025 while training for a marathon. I was concerned at the time that I was doing ok at increasing my mileage but my times weren’t coming down at all. After the two week trial, I ultimately went for the Runna and Strava combined plan. Some of the runs can be a little bit aggressive towards the very end of a plan but the two week taper is great for race prep. I didn’t quite hit my goal pace for my marathon but came close and the run was much easier than the last marathon that I did. A few months later, my year-over-year improvement in my Half-Marathon timing is 9.9%, I’ve lost 15 lbs, and I’m training for my next Marathon in October. I appreciate the ability to move my workouts over the course of a week when personal appointments crop up or I’m just not feeling into a run. I never would have thought that I’d be getting much quicker in my mid-40s..Version: 8.40.0
Confidence BuildingI am so happy with this app. It has given me a newfound excitement and love for running. I’ve never been one to stretch before or cool down after a run, but I am happy and committed to doing it with Runna. It’s just so easy and friendly and I love seeing those check marks proving I did them. I love the color coding for the different types of runs and how they mix it up, adding variety, making each workout different and challenging. I love having the yearly subscription. It it so cool to look forward in my marathon training plan to see what my runs will look like in 2 months time. I also appreciate that the strength workouts give me the option to list what equipment I have at home and tailor my exercises for what is available to me. I just can’t say enough about the app. I am progressing faster than I ever have in the past 15 years of running because Runna makes it doable and fun. Thanks Runna!!.Version: 7.32.1
Really great for schedulingRunna is an amazing training app for beginners to intermediate runners (I haven’t gone beyond that so I don’t know how it is for those at the top) just put in your information and it builds a plan for what you want to train for. Before I found Runna I was looking up marathon training plans online and then writing them down on a calendar which is great until you miss one. Runna makes it so easy to change the schedule and sends you reminders of what your goal is that day even allowing you to tie it into your calendar app. They have also recently partnered with Strava combining their subscriptions so you can get both for 60% off or something ridiculous. I especially love that they have an Apple Watch supported version that lets me leave my phone behind and still get pace updates and lap times. If you are running definitely check this one out..Version: 8.6.0
This app accidentally made me a runner…I signed up for a 5k in November on a whim and it sure didn’t go great. I finished in just under 40 minutes, walked a ton, sprinted some and was so sore for days and days. But I also really wanted to keep running for some ungodly reason. I found Runna after some googling and started with a basic ol’ return to running plan for free. Before I knew it I was running controlled miles without stopping and then suddenly a whole 5k without stopping and then my easy runs were over 5k. 6 months later, I’ve run multiple 5ks, two 10ks and I’m signed up for my first half marathon in a few weeks. Runna has helped me to be consistent, taught me about the importance of a varied running plan and helped me to build endurance that I never knew I had in me. Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed if you make the effort to show up for yourself and trust the plan..Version: 8.33.1
Incredible, especially for beginnersRunna has been amazing in helping me stay running consistently and train for specific goals. I’ve ran on and off before, but at the beginning of 2023 decided I wanted to really get into running, do it the right way, and eventually run a half marathon. The distances and workout variations have been spot on for my fitness level, and I’ve already seen great progress just in the first few months. I’m confident that if I stick with the plan, I’ll be able to run that half marathon. The specific things I like about the app is that it uses GPS tracking so the distances are accurate, and it gives me specific paces to shoot for during my runs along with voice prompts when I’m either going too fast or too slow. As a beginner runner, it’s been incredibly useful for getting to know what each pace feels like. 10/10 would recommend!.Version: 3.4.0
Love this app!I love the flexibility and details provided within the Runna app. I was looking for an app that would include detailed runs, not just distances but actual speed/pace goals for each run. And I also wanted help with fitting in the strength training among the running. This app does all of that and more! The runs are actually quite fun and go quickly as most of them are broken up into warm up and then different paces followed by cool down and it makes the longer runs and the speed workouts go by so quickly! One feature that I think is awesome is that you can manage your plan by selecting number of days per week, what level of experience, time of last race, etc. You can do this during a plan without having to end/start an entirely new plan. It allows so much flexibility and really allows you to customize the plan to fit your goals. Excellent app!!.Version: 4.0.5
Good App With A Few Needed AdjustmentsOverall, I love the app! The custom training sessions make life very easy for me. As someone who is very new to running, I have found the advice and encouragement to be incredibly helpful. One big frustration that I have experienced revolves around converting miles and vice versa. For example, I am running an 8K this upcoming weekend. As someone who lives in the US, I have the app set to miles. However, when I enter that this is an 8K in the app, it automatically converts to 5 miles rather than 4.97. This causes an issue when I actually run the race because it will not track the race as a hole because it wants me to go a full 5 miles before saying I’ve completed it. As far as I know, the only way to rectify this is to start tracking and timing myself before I actually crossed the start line and/or after I’ve crossed the finish line. This is not only frustrating, but creates an inaccurate time..Version: 8.33.2
Expanding my comfort and heart rate zonesThis app is making running fun and exciting for me again. As a non-professional runner, someone who has done two marathons thus far but never broken 4:30, I love running. I love it so much but on runs I tend to stick to what I know. I run the same pace, do the same distances, and run the same routes. Runna has given me the opportunity to try different kinds of runs. I’ve explored the area around me to find places to do my hill runs or tracks to do my speed workouts. I’ve been more committed than ever before and I credit (and blame) runna for that. I think there are a few things that this fairly new app could work on (I don’t need to see the weather first thing upon opening the app, I have a window) but from what I’ve seen it is only being improved with time. Also worth noting that I’m getting faster! Can’t wait to see if I can finally break that 4:30 in a few months.Version: 7.34.0
LOVE THISI love the organization and how the app connects to Strava and Garmin. It feels more personalized once you enter what event you’re training for. I don’t even need to bring my phone with me once Runna connects to Garmin it’ll tell me exactly what workout to do. the longer runs or paced runs - the app tells you if you’re hitting the target pace while you’re running so it tells you to go slower or to go faster. I thought this was a pretty cool feature that felt like some personal training to hit your personal goals. It gives the option to also schedule in strength training to the mix of it all and you can get a very detailed and organized printout of your plan. (to RUNNA - I love everything but if you wanted to be a little extra you could add sick days for a reason why the run was missed so people can look back at their plan and see in more little details.).Version: 6.0.2
Affordable Running CoachI’ve completed two plans with this app: one for a half marathon and one for a full marathon. After breaking my shoulder two years ago, I had to give up competitive swimming and was hesitant to start running since I’d never been a strong runner. Before using Runna, I ran a half marathon that felt like the hardest thing I’d ever done, I was ready to quit running entirely. Then I saw an ad for Runna and decided to give it a shot. It turned out to be the best decision I’ve made. The app took care of all the planning, optimizing my runs for race day performance. In less than six months, I shaved 20 minutes off my half marathon time and absolutely crushed my first marathon! The coaches’ advice and the support from the Runna community have been invaluable. It’s a great app backed by an amazing team. I can’t recommend it enough. Definitely worth the investment!.Version: 7.12.1
So impressedI ran cross country in middle school and junior high and have loved running for a long time. I’ve always been on the slower side, but still loved it and ran 2 full marathons and 13 half marathons for fun. I haven’t run a race since 2018 as I spent a couple years battling health issues. I just finished the “new to running plan” and went straight into a 5k plan afterwards. I’m SO impressed with this app. It feels personal to my goals, easy to maintain, and realistic to accomplish. It can be so hard to gradually build endurance and I’ve tried and failed over the past couple of years to get a baseline going. It syncs beautifully to my Garmin watch and talks me through each interval, pace goal, and takes all of the thinking out of planning a training plan. I love this app and here’s to hoping it will be the thing that helps me get back up to marathoning!.Version: 7.14.0
Mostly good, room for improvementOverall I like the app. If you’re brand new to running, I think you could get injured easily, but if you’re at least somewhat experienced then I think it’s very helpful. I do have a qualm though - it sets your goal race time based off of other prior races and you can’t adjust it. In my case, it set my goal marathon time as MUCH faster than it should have been, and as a result, all the speed work was way faster than I needed. I really wish the app had a way to adjust the goal time manually to avoid this situation. Of course, since I couldn’t hit the speeds, it kept adjusting my race pace slower and slower, which felt discouraging somehow. I’d just like to be able to put in my own goal times!! Other than that, solid app. I really like the weights portions and the speedwork is repetitive but good. I’d recommend they add strides into easy runs at some point..Version: 8.37.0
Runna AppI am training for my first full marathon (have run several half marathons), and Runna has been a nice tool for me to use. Pros: I love that it is accurate and reliable. Love that it sends me a pop up notification in the morning for what my workout for the day needs to be. Also like that it incorporates strength training along with running. Cons: I think the setup for the strength training is a little boring. I usually find a more interesting workout video that incorporates dumbbells and do my own strength training that way (I just link the activity to Runna). It would be nice to have videos rather than just pictures of strength training that incorporated motivations music and showed what specific muscles each workout targets. I also feel like Runna could be a bit more encouraging. An occasional pep talk pop up notification would be nice. :).Version: 8.19.1
Great for marathon training, some bugsThis app is great for my marathon preparation as it helps you plan ahead and progressively increase the intensity of the workouts. I haven’t seen another app like that. It helps that you can rearrange your schedule when you miss a session or two. There is one annoying bug and interface issue they need to resolve though. Your pace is said out loud every minute or so and it’s often not very precise. More annoyingly it will say one pace out loud and even before ending it can skip to the next pacing announcement which can have a huge difference (sometimes of 10-20s per mile or km). It’s really annoying and I would rather than, for the longer runs, be able to just hear the pace every kilometer/mile than so frequently. Following this, there should be more options in the app on the regularity of announcements, and please add less robotic voices!.Version: 7.6.0
LOVE Runna!I don’t take the time, usually, to provide a review on apps. But this is worth it. I’ve referred two friends this far. Take all my money. This app is so worth it! I love the customizable plan, the coaching while you’re doing the run, the warm up and cool down options as well as the options for integrating strength and mobility workouts. I can’t think of anything they’ve missed. My pace has already improved and it takes the guessing out of what I need to do to train for my race! Thanks for the amazing app!.Version: 6.8.0
If I were a rich man…This app has potential and I wanted to love it, but it’s seriously lacking value. The subscription is outrageous for what is offers, especially when compared to other running apps that have comparable or better features for less (Strava, Runkeeper, adidas running, NRC…) I liked the plans and that they are personalized, but Runkeeper plans are very similar, also personalized, and a third of the price. I like the idea of the community but it was sparse and posts seemed unanswered more often than not (probably because so few can afford this app). It was also missing the social features I enjoy most in other running apps (like Adidas and Runkeeper and Strava), virtual races and challenges. So ultimately I found that feature a flop. I like that it’s compatible with Apple Watch, but had syncing issues with Apple health and Strava which I found frustrating. I liked the interface and I liked the format of treadmill workouts, more than anything that’s what set it apart from other apps for me. It also is missing guided runs if that’s something you’re into. If the app was reasonably or even competitively priced I’d subscribe because I think it has potential and I did like the workouts. But I’m going to stick with my Runkeeper plan ($50/year vs $150). Even Strava is only $99/year, and it too has personalized running plans as well as much much stronger community features. I’m honestly at a loss where they came up with $150 compared to other running apps but oh well 🤷♀️.Version: 4.2.17
TJE BESTRunna is the best running app!! I have been using it for a few years and it never disappoints!.Version: 8.39.1
Great appDefinitely recommend for someone who’s starting to run or is looking to improve their runs I would love to have more options regarding warm-up and cooldown stretches other than that everything is great!.Version: 8.39.1
Worth itI’ve used a few fitness apps and plans over many years, but this by far is the best app for running I’ve ever used. I did the “return to running 5KM” plan and found it so easy to stick to the training plan for the 7 weeks, plus the slow taper up helped me feel good for pretty well every run. I rarely pay for premium apps, however I feel like this is a great investment in health and I look forward to using this app for my next 10 KM run!.Version: 8.38.1
Salman KFor a couch person the app has helped tremendously. So many programs / apps out there. After lots of research picked this one and it’s been great..Version: 8.37.0
Training with RunnaI’ve been loving the Runna app so far! It’s super easy to use, really motivating, and I love how clearly the training plans are laid out. The flexibility is one of my favourite parts — it’s so simple to shift workouts around when life gets busy without feeling like you’re falling behind. Everything feels very user-friendly and encouraging. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for structure and motivation in their running!.Version: 8.37.0
Effective, Fun and InteractiveThis is my favourite App. Lots of functions to keep you focused and interested. Assists with positive and optimistic living. This is tech that contributes to a better world..Version: 8.37.0

Best app to follow a running program linked to Strava!Excellent!.Version: 8.35.1
Safely and steadily training for half marathonThis app has allowed me to explore running in different ways like tempo and interval training, easy runs, long runs, and improved my times while I have managed to avoid any injury while using it. It also helped me to add in running specific stretches and strength training to further protect my body. Well worth the money..Version: 8.35.1
Great training appI love the versatility of workouts and how personalized it feels..Version: 8.32.0
Good Training PlansLove the app and the run plan options. The only issue is the connectivity to my Apple Watch. The data doesn’t always transfer so I have to view my run details in my Apple Watch app instead of the run an app. Other times I’ll push start and it doesn’t start on my watch just my phone so then I end up recording an Apple Watch exercise instead of runna exercise..Version: 8.35.0
ExceptionalLove it, all easy to follow!.Version: 8.32.0
Great running app!Runna has been great overall! Pros: great interface. The ability to look up a specific upcoming race and train towards it is *awesome*. Love the custom training plans, and how it adapts to my pace and schedule. Really good at adapting the plan over time. Google calendar sync is excellent to schedule runs and adapt schedule over time. Apple Watch app is great overall. Cons: I do wish Runna was better at recording treadmill workouts; I learnt today that I have to manually adjust my treadmill pace in the app, it doesn’t seem to detect pace via my watch like Apple Fitness does. The coach voice is super robotic; I’d prefer a more natural sounding voice. The app price is also a bit steep; I always have to think twice before renewing even though it’s great. (Too many subscriptions cost too much these days.) Overall, I’m loving it! Keep up the great work. 🏃💨.Version: 8.31.0
AccountabilityWhen I leave things to myself to do, it never gets done, Runna reminds me I have goals, and sets me up to achieve them..Version: 8.30.0

Training Tutor!Training Tutor! This has helped me build endurance and continues to grow me towards my goal..Version: 8.25.0
Good app, expensive for what it doesGreat app, solid interface and I like the ease of the training plans. But given I pay $100/yr for Strava premium and Runna premium costs 50% more, feels like a very expensive add-on to Strava. I gave it a go, but for this price you can get the same feedback and training plans really from any AI if prompted with you running performance and goals (ie your Strava activities fed into ChatGPT).Version: 8.27.0
Great training appGot back into running and this app is very helpful for setting goals and prepping for a race..Version: 8.25.0
PerfectExactly what I was looking for..Version: 8.25.0
IPad optimizationI am enjoying runna on my phone and watch but the iPad experience is lacking. I would love to see an app optimized for the larger screen with integration to all of the videos and podcasts that are getting released by runna. The same goes for Strava. It would be great to see these platforms with a tablet interface specifically and not just a blown up phone app. Thanks!.Version: 8.25.0
Runna made me a runnerGoing on my 7th week of using Runna and really enjoying running (which I HATED before)! Thanks for making running manageable for a new runner like me! I’ve signed up for my first race ever and know I’ll get there thanks to this app!.Version: 8.25.0
Excellent trainingHave really loved Runna for my training so far. I love the variation in training styles keep things interesting and a lot less boredom in runs.Version: 8.25.0
Big fan!I have ran several half marathons in my life, but not once have I followed a training plan. Because of this, I’ve always pushed myself into injury on race day. I’m one month into my Runna half marathon training and I feel stronger than ever. I love having someone in my ear telling me to speed up or slow down, and to not have to think about what kind of run to do that day. I’ve always just gone out and ran hard, so I love the different types of runs to build strength , endurance and speed. Highly recommend!.Version: 8.23.0
It was difficult to find an app as good as RunnaI’ve been wanting to get back into running and started back on strava, then I found runna by mistake and took their return to running plan and quite frankly it is the best running app I ever gotten I tried many and so many fails with just a regular plan not runna! it is well made, user friendly, they have a podcast and their philosophy regarding the new to running and return to running plans will always be free is quite frankly a breath of fresh air. If you happen to be on the fence on whether to get back into it, THIS IS THE APP YOU NEED! They’ll ask a few questions and then BOOM awesome plan to follow super easy. And the podcast is a great listen to! I’ve rambled enough… this app is amazing, well thought out and built!.Version: 8.23.0
Love it!Perfect to improve your pace and also the plans are super personalized. A bit expensive though..Version: 8.23.0
Best running appAmazing for beginner runners. It got me through a half marathon and a full marathon. Love this training app..Version: 8.23.0
Best Running app everI am the slowest runner ever and have always been discouraged by fast runners around me. What I love most about this app is that the entire training uses RPE which is exactly what I need to be a successful runner..Version: 8.19.1
Good for new runnersThe app itself is fine. For new runners it’s great because you walk in with very little information and an entire plan is built for you, which is effective because it’s built around personal skill level. For experienced runners I think it’s less necessary, at a point I feel as though you’d know most of what Runna does by yourself..Version: 8.21.0
PerfectAs a new runner this app is just what I needed - a structured progressive plan to build my running strength! Love that it programs strength days as well. Works amazingly well with apple and my apple watch for tracking run and live coaching during the run. Highly recommend!!.Version: 8.17.0
Best running app!Absolutely in love with this app! The programs are very fun and help your performance. There’s no other choice for me..Version: 8.16.0
Free trail and purchased for the yearI’m using runna as a training app for my first ultra and don’t really know where to start. I’m a road runner with hiking experience but how to combine the two without injury I was at a loss. So far so good just wish it showed the estimated calorie and for some reason it isn’t showing my elevation..Version: 8.16.0
