I wanted to move money from my Spruce account to my regular checking account and it took 3 days for the transaction to be completed. This is not good!!! My husband and I use Zelle to transfer money back and forth between our accounts (we use different banks) and the money is in one account and out of the other in mere seconds. Great app, Recommended for direct deposits.I recently signed up for the spruce account because I file my taxes with H&R Block every single year. I decided “why not” and filed my taxes to get my direct deposit into my new spruce account. I was a little nervous because it’s a new platform but I wanted to find a faster way to get my tax refund. Signing up for Spruce was easy, learning my way around the app was quite easy as well. My only real complaint is there isn’t a specific section to see my “pending deposits” they kind of just show up (unless I haven’t found where to see that information yet). The best part is my tax return wasn’t suppose to be direct deposited until 02/22, however it came EARLY!! Inconvenience, need improvement.First of all, it does all the promises after H&R refunds. But only one issue I didn’t liked. This company is terribleUpdate: HRBlock called me finally and kinda fixed the situation but not entirely. I was at least able to get access to the money to pull it all off. They had to activate the card themselves and set the pin number so they had my pin and all my info. Not safe, not secure and no one can really help you. You have to wait 5 days for someone to reach out to you but I told them I’d contact my attorney for holding funds hostage and they called right away. This card and service is downright awful. I never asked HRBlock to give me this card, I never wanted it, I provided them my actual routing and account number. Somehow I ended up with this Speuce account with no card and my taxes are just sitting. No one can help me or give me information. I keep being told they have to send emails and I have to wait 5 business days or longer for any assistance. They tell me they can see the account and all my info matches but I have no access to my money. I would run from these people. If you haven’t gotten a card from them, they want the card info before sending you another card! HOW WHEN I NEVER GOT IT!!! Never even asked for this and here I am with no insight on when I’ll be able to access the money. HORRIBLE BANK AND WORKERS!!!!I had gotten this account to see if it was worth the hype people were telling me about, and needless to say ITS NOT!!!! Super bad serviceI created this account when I was completing my Tax return using H&R Block. They claimed that takes 5 days to get your tax refund. That happened in about 6 days, but that’s not the problem, I linked an external account so I can send my $$ into my external account (where I do all my financial transactions) the feature didn’t allow me to send out, I called customer service and they told me I can’t do that, only option to PayPal or Cash but only $1,000 per day, and the last option, someone will call me to sep up a transfer to my external account, that will take 3-5 days to 1st to receive the phone call and another 3-5 days to transfer to my external bank. I could have just use my bank at the end of the tax filling process in H&R block, wait a few extra days and get all my money in my bank account (no issues). Spruce cardI have always had the emerald card this year I decided to go with spruce due to they claim you get your taxes 5 days sooner. Well not true in fact my return was deposited per I.R.S. I lost my wallet with all my info, including my card, and my money was taken from my account. I did not authorize this. The WORST “banking” companyHonestly would give 0 stars if I were able to. My actual bank card got stolen 3 days ago so to prevent whoever stole my card from using my money, I transferred the money into my spruce account. Great for direct deposits, terrible for checksAnd customer service will lie to you. They set forth their terms and conditions through their sponsor, which was approved. They have the longest deposit times for checks — and the very reason I’m writing this review is due to the delay in checks depositing under $1000. I fought with a prior company for 5 months through the department of labor to pay my unpaid wage, they finally did. Now I have to wait 2 more weeks to access said funds because reasons in their system.

Spruce failed me!The app has no live person who knows what’s going on. The phone number is an automated service with no operator option. I deposited a check the took weeks to wait on a date for it to clear and they still haven’t cleared my check. Terrible Service- use someone elsePlease avoid using them at all costs. My building gave discounts to use this service, so I tried it. My apartment is usually very clean anyways, so I only need touch up in high touch areas. The housekeeper showed up with dirty vacuum and mop. Her tools are so dirty that I almost wished I didn’t order the service. And then she came in for about half an hour and left. Left my microwave and countertop with residual of the cleaning spray.
It was a mess! Then I called spruce to request another service to be done because my apartment looked worse than before after a cleaning session. They told me best they can do is to give me a $50 off next time!
Then it gets better. The cleaning person clocked out 3 hours later as if she was in my apartment for 3 hours when I’m reality, she was only there for 30 mins max.

Half the time it’s barely a banking appDo you like zelle? Do you like when the numbers on your screen actually match the data you’re seeking? Don’t bother with this app then. Half the time what’s on the screen doesnt include some invisible calculation they’ve locked your money behind. Oh and do you want to get paid early? You’ll get it MAYBE 4 hours earlier. Locked Out of My Account – No Help at AllI have been locked out of my Spruce account for over 24 hours with no real way to fix the issue. Every time I try to log in, I get a message saying my account is “locked for 20 minutes” due to multiple login attempts — but it never resets.
The worst part? No real communication from customer service. No email updates, no proper explanation, and no urgency to help me access my own money. For a financial app that holds people’s funds, this kind of support (or lack of it) is completely unacceptable.
If you rely on having quick access to your money, be very careful. When something goes wrong, you may be left completely in the dark like I was.

As an H&R Block Employee I will not continue using this app or platformThey advertise early payday. So I tried it out so I could review it before encouraging my clients to try it. That’s a hard nope from me. They told me it would take 35 days to have access to early payday after my first direct deposit hits…hopefully sometime tomorrow. Nope. At least my brick and mortar bank has real early direct deposit. Then I have had duplicate transactions post and it takes 3-5 business days to transfer money from my bank account to my spruce savings. Big Joke Don’t Do It!!!This app would not allow me to link my bank account for 2 weeks. So I went to close the account. Guess what, unlike other apps, you just can’t delete or close your account. You have to call their customer service line. Not even then will they close your account. They say you have to wait 5 business days for them to reach a decision on wether or not they will close your account. I spoke with a supervisor named Bella, and she said it wasn’t her problem I chose this app and hung up on me. Horrible.I currently was trying to set up an account and was sent to the log in every time I put in my number even though when I put in my number it says “continue creating account” I have to put in my number once again but ends up sending me right back to log in and I end up stuck in this never ending loop. The customer service is only for those who have a debit card from them which I do not because like I said before I keep getting sent to the log in. Frozen on StartI am a little angry so leaving a 1 star may be a bit much but I personally am conflicted because I love this app. I do. But I don’t like that when I try to access my app, it takes forever to load. Which is understandable that things need to load so I do try to be patient but waiting almost 2 minutes on the same screen is ridiculous when I am in a pinch and need access to my money and this is the only way I have to see it. Do. Not. Use. This. “Bank”.These accounts are nearly impossible to transfer funds out of, they only make it easy to move money into the accounts. Customer service has no idea what they’re talking about, and if you want to ACH your funds out of your account you must fill out a form and wait at least 10 business days.
