The app looks great however the steep price bump is jarringI own Screens 4 for all platforms with all the IAP upgrades (when they were still paid) and plan to keep using the previous versions. This app looks great and I’m sure it took a lot or work and a long time to build. However the price to unlock lifetime for existing users who paid for the previous versions is the same for new users. This feels a little harsh and I understand this is now a universal app built from scratch but show your previous customers some grace. As an app developer I completely support the need for companies to be paid for their work but I also expect that they appreciate the people who supported their work previously and any discount would’ve been a gesture of goodwill. I’m going to hold off on purchasing it for now. Edit: To the developers - thanks for responding. I do enjoy your products and I did pay for both iOS and Mac versions for the previous version (which totaled less than this current version). I understand software takes work and you deserve to be paid for it. All I’m saying it would’ve been nice to have upgrade pricing for existing customers. I’m glad you have a lifetime option but we know that’s just for the just for lifetime of v5. We’ll have to pay again for v6 and from what you’re saying it’ll be full price again. Great software, but you can’t try it without paymentI’ve used Screens for many years and it is greet software. I don’t support subscriptions but I will pay a one-time price for software I need and that is of high quality. I must, however, question the ethics of not being able to test a new version without, upon first launch, committing to either a subscription or a one-time payment. Sure you get a “free trial” with the subscription but then the user is responsible for canceling. This is unethical and I don’t think Apple should allow developers to do this. The Only Hassle-Free OptionI've used all the VNC software on macOS/iOS and Linux. Screens is the one to use on Mac, Remmina on Linux. Both are simple and perform very well. And if you're the self-proclaimed hacker type, it Screens plays nice with whatever wild setup you have invented in your homelab. :) As with any software, bugs and edge cases are inevitable. I found one and the Edovia team was very responsive. We did all sorts of low level testing. Within a few hours, we found a resolution. Fantastic for Accessing Remote/Headless MachinesI disvovered Screens with version 4 and the lasted version remains my go to for headless/remote machines from my Mac. It saves the inevitable headache when cli does not quite cut it. I have used Teamviewer on windows and mac, and Connectwise on windows, but this product follows the old "it just works" mantra. I recently hit an unexpected blank screen the support team quickly provided answers and followed up to allievate my concern about the workaround. Fantastic Remote Access AppI've been a user of Screens for years. When BackToMyPC went from buy once to a subscription I looked for an alternative and Screens was the best available. This is the second new version since then and it is a tremendous upgrade. It lets me access my Mac when I am away from home and I love it. (And having to buy an upgrade again after 5 years? Less stable & missing some features from Screens 4I've been trying out Screens 5 but thusfar it seems to be a bit less stable than Screens 4 on Mac. I've gotten a few crashes in the last couple hours and the clipboard settings are not consistent. Additionally, there's a feature regression of no longer being able to manually sort remote computers, they can only be organized by name or date, even in the rectangle view. Great appGreat app. Many new features make it better than Screens 4. Enough so that I am okay paying a subscription. One issue though- when I’m using on iPhone, the entire screen is not viewable. I have to pinch to zoom slightly to adjust the edges of the screen to see the top edge, or the left or right side of the screen. This was not the case with Screens 4. Great app, Terrible Update StrategyIt’s really unfortunate to pay a decent amount for an application (Screens 4) just to have it lose support because they figured they can make more money by creating a whole new app (Screens 5) with a subscription and wildly expensive lifetime in-app purchase when it could have simply been an update to Screens 4…or at least allowed users who previously purchased to get a better deal than a discounted subscription…like a discount on the lifetime plan and some level of assurance that when Screens 6 comes out Screens 5 won’t be left behind like Screens 4. I’ll be looking for alternatives if Screens 4 stops getting updates (especially security updates). Wanted it to work!I downloaded Screens and it's Connect app, including subscribing for a whole year. Turns out that with the routers that I use I couldn't get UPnP manual configuration to work. So, I couldn't add my computers to control them remotely. I wanted this to work so I could work remotely and login via VNC, while also having the opportunity to remotely access my parents' computer. It just didn't work and following the instructions from the support pages, I couldn't get it to work no matter what I tried. I feel bad for giving such a low rating, but I can do all of what the app allowed me to do for free with Apple's built in VNC Screen Share feature..Bluejoken.stewartVersion: 5.1.5

No more SSH tunnelling?While in theory Screens 5 should be an improvement, I had a bunch of systems set up under Screens 4 to connect via an SSH tunnel to a server so only one of my systems was exposed to the Internet. Now every one of these just connects directly to the server's display. The developers say it's supported just like in Screens 4, yet when I access a system imported from Screens 4 it just connects to my gateway server, not to the target system. Subscription rotAnother developer that thought it was a good idea to move to a subscription based business model. 1. Except that most people don’t need to have remote access to their computers. Which more or less negates the value of the subscription. I’m not paying for something I use maybe once a month. 2. Good luck trying to navigate explaining why something that is a core function which we’ve paid for in previous versions is now a subscription. That automatically goes into the delete bin. 3. The developer should be focused on adding value and reasons why we should be subscribing like the carrot weather app on top of core function. It’s a term in the industry called subscription rot, where every developer convinces each other that they could make a ton of money without having to do labour. And then all the developers find out collectively that there was zero market for that and you’ve effectively killed a good will in your app and people move on to your competitors. MehIt’s fine, but for my use case (using an iPad to connect to one of my devices using regular VNC protocol), this app is almost identical to Screens 4. The UI is slightly updated, and the toolbar has changed but to me in minor ways. I’ve been alternating between v4/v5 for the last week and can’t find any discernible improvements in 5 (again, for my use case). The lack of improvements + the high one time payment or ongoing subscription are disappointing.
