Dave’s Hot Chicken was created by best friends Dave Kopushyan, Arman Oganesyan, and Tommy and Gary Rubenyan. Dave, a chef trained in Thomas Keller’s (French Laundry) organization set out to create the perfect Hot Chicken by searching, tasting, and frying. The four friends scrounged up $900 to put a tiny stand in an East Hollywood parking lot. The menu was simple, and the chicken was the star. Sourced and prepared to be the juiciest and most tender chicken imaginable, each piece is topped with Dave’s signature mix of spices ranging from No Spice to “The Reaper.”

Please fix your app Dave…DISCLAIMER: This review is being written towards the app, not the restaurant itself I was at Dave’s Hot Chicken once while hanging out with a friend and I absolutely loved their food that I knew I had to come back again one day. So today, I tried to order my meal through this app, which when I do, it first gave me an error that the request timed out. I then went to try and order again on the app when this time, I get another error, which was when both attempts of trying to pay on the app appeared into my bank account as a pending charge. So I then tried to call the restaurant location that I was trying to pick up my order from when the employee on the phone says that they don’t even see both orders have went through to their systems! This was when as soon as I have arrived to the restaurant, I would have to show the employee proof that the Dave’s Hot Chicken app had tried to charge me for two orders that didn’t even go through to the restaurant. Since the employees were not able to receive my order, there was nothing they could do and I had to order my meal again and wait longer than planned since it was a walk-in. I could never imagine having a restaurant app that can’t even send orders to the restaurant, but will try to charge your card for the meal anyway. Dave, if you are reading this review, please fix your restaurant app. I love the food at Dave’s, but it would feel disappointing to not have a well-functional app to place orders ahead of time.Blueberry123!!!Version: 2.15.1
App automatically adds a tip to each orderThis review is for the app only. The restaurant and food are amazing! Unfortunately the app is not a great experience. It’s so helpful to be asked to use it to order ahead because the food is cooked to order and can take longer than a typical fast food place that uses a microwave or preheated food. BIG BUT… when you go to checkout they automatically have a 15% tip set as the default, which adds a decent chunk to your bill. If you happen to notice the extra cost, it’s usually too late to go back and change the tip. If you re-order using a previous order that has the tip included (not by your choice), then it also copies the tip % and it’s really hard to catch. The bottom line is that the default setting for a tip should be zero% and we should be able to knowingly chose the amount we want to tip, instead of being tricked into paying more. If they did this same practice of adding 15% to every bill when you’re ordering inside the restaurant at the cashier, I’m pretty sure people would not be happy!!!.KarslawVersion: 4.11.4
Reward points haven’t worked and estimated pickup can be up to an hour too earlyI sent a message to support somewhere around a week, maybe more, ago and got a message back apologizing for the issues, but my request to receive the reward points I’ve never gotten was ignored. I have placed 3 different orders through this app and never received any reward points. My order history is still blank on the app, so all I have to show for my orders when asked for proof at pickup are my email receipts. It’s like the app has just been deleting my orders after their estimated pickup time arrives — which as I also mentioned, is always extremely early. There was a time I waited an hour past the estimated time before my order was actually ready. Now that I know, I just show up at LEAST half an hour after the estimated time. I totally understand it gets extremely busy at my local Dave’s, I just wish the app could be made aware of how busy it is so pickup times could be a bit more realistic..BenjalawVersion: 5.2.1
I like daves… butI’ll take my sweet time placing an order, ordering my daves number 2 double sliders. no slaw, no pickles. add cheese… ummmm, medium heat. then… i add extra stuff, it varies on the different days. today i’m getting cheese fries and a 10 piece order of daves chicken bites. dr pepper (also i gotta clarify its not all for me, i share with my lovely girlfriend of 3 years) now i go through this tedious process every. single. time. and of course, thats not exactly what i’m complaining about… my problem is the payment system. i put my dang ol payment information in and when i click “place order” it says “ERROR!! YOU ARE STINKY AND YOU DO NOT DESERVE DAVES CHICKEN RIGHT NOW! TRY AGAIN!!” and then i have to do it all over again. daves number 2 double sliders, medium spice, no slaw, no pickles, add cheese. daves 10 piece medium spice bites. and SOMETIMES cheese fries. add to my bag, dr pepper. then add payment, place order.. and HOPEFULLY. Needs updatingI just placed my first order for a later time at 1:15 PM and I even double checked it was for that time and after I placed the order it said it was for 12:15 PM. I’ll accept possibly my fault but then I tried redeeming the free milkshake for downloading the app and when I went to drinks for my order there were no shakes there so at the checkout I pressed the rewards button and clicked on the free shake and was told the reward isn’t applicable to my order. I tried cancelling my order to change the time to the 1:15 PM I wanted and there is no way to adjust or cancel orders so I tried calling the store and explained to the worker on the phone and he said they will hold it for until later, this is extremely annoying and inconvenient. *HORRIBLE* App RedesignThe Dave’s Hot Chicken app was easy and pleasant to use just a few weeks ago. Then some terribly misguided executive or some utterly psychopathic developer decided to update it and turn it into the current monstrosity. I cannot think of the last time I’ve encountered an app redesign has been so horrifically unpleasant, that has impacted usability so negatively, that has so drastically reduced my desire to give my money to a particular company. The menu layout now requires endless lateral scrolling. The sliders to select spiciness levels take up far too much of the screen and are simply unpleasant to look at. I won’t even bother complaining about my inability to see and repeat recent orders without a login as I’m sure it’s part of some data mining scheme but in general the new app is awful. No help and no rewardsHello, To whom it may concern, I got this app after seeing a video on Snapchat about the food. I scanned the app in store spending over $60. I never received any points. I assumed it was taking a while to process, so I went and tried it again. Also no points. I sent a message to loyalty rewards email and my email was never even looked at. I tried calling a number but never got an answer. After a second emails weeks later there was still not a single word back. I had great hopes cause there were deals and rewards for good food. Can’t order when store is busyWhen a given store is busy you can’t order through the app. This is the opposite of the logical approach a business would have as it would save time for the busy staff working in person in the store. Instead you go to the store since you can order on the app and realize that the entire place is packed with people waiting on to go orders because they couldn’t order on the app. And a line out the door because one staff member is stuck taking all the in person orders. Don’t get attached to anything new hereAfter years of the same menu, Dave’s finally added mozzarella sticks. And they were legit—perfectly crispy, great with the sauce, actually worth the wait. For once, it felt like they were listening to customers who wanted something beyond just chicken. Poor ServiceAfter a few tries, placing an order online and with the app, I called the store. The person who answered the phone had very poor telephone presence and could not get the order right. Once they did, they could not get the credit card entered properly. So I asked them to just prepare the food so I wouldn’t be late for the party. I was trying to serve food too. They said they can’t prepare the food without payment. So I had to drive all the way to the store and pay with the very same credit card that they said wouldn’t work. Missing items againI got home and realized that you left out one of the cheese sauces I ordered again. This is the third time I’ve had a missing item. The second time I reminded myself to check your work before I left so luckily I was able to correct it on the spot. SLOOOWWI was excited about the new location, but that was quickly overshadowed by the extremely slow service. Yes, I get they “MAY” actually make cool to order .. however your key item is CHICKEN. So why do a mobile order for lunch when it takes 45-55 minutes to make 2 chicken sliders?! Lunch was entered 20 minutes for taking and the drive is 10-15 for pick up.. Amazing food, absolutely trash appI love Dave’s. Great halal food. This app, on the other hand, is terrible and barely functions. The account creation process doesn’t work for me. There’s a sign in option with Apple ID, but no sign up with Apple ID. It doesn’t allow auto fill for your phone number, password, creation, or your credit card details and throws up errors constantly. It would be cool to get the reward points, but I don’t think it’s ever going to happen. Points cannot be redeemed on app. Bad estimations.My local Dave’s is always packed. It works well to order the food but the order ready time is vastly in accurate. It will say my order is ready in 20 minutes and usually have to wait 60 minutes. The app is terribleI love the food but the app is terrible. I couldn’t even place my order over the app so I could just come in and pick up the food. I tried to redeem my reward it wouldn’t work and I couldn’t check out. It just kept spinning. My wife tried to redeem her reward on her app, same thing. Closed the app no luck. I deleted the app and then redownloaded it still no luck. The employees even said the app always messes up. The WorstWithout question, Dave’s Hot Chicken has the worst ordering/payment platforms I’ve ever used. I’m talking about both the app and mobile website, collectively. I couldn’t complete a day-ahead order for 10 people on either. Both got hung up on the payment section. The app wouldn’t allow me to enter a credit card number and trying Apple Pay yielded an error message, again and again. Rewards won’t workI didn’t know there was an app until I finished ordering my food. Employee told me about the app so I downloaded it and scanned my receipt and it said an error occurred. I put the number in manually and got the same error. Pretty disappointed since I spent $80 to feed my family and won’t get any rewards points. There is no 2 step authentication or way to protect your cards on file though this app so your information could be compromised like mine was. Worst app in all existenceThere is no way to change the location you want to order from once you select it. you have to go into your settings in your phone and turn off your location and then turn it back on within the app just to pick a location again.
