Our Lifeline!!!This year, unfortunately, we’ve all encountered exceptional disasters, from the fires, to the Coronavirus, and everything in between. This app has been my lifeline. I will get immediate alerts on my phone to important information that I otherwise would have missed, I watch live or recorded segments with vital information that I otherwise would never have been able to see if I didn’t have this app near me. Fire coverage in Moraga.My family was cut off from most of the communication when the power went off in Moraga and then the fire in Moraga broke out, the authorities cut off the home WiFi..but we found out that they could get text messages from me in San Jose. I started sending them your news via text and she could open them. At 6:00 am they found out from me and your app that the fire was a 4 min. drive from their home. And they were never warned.... Bad designI am subtracting two stars. Both for annoying navigation problems. When I open the app to see a weather alert, I can never exit out of the weather page. There is no easy link back to the home page. That’s an app 101 first rule of design. Easy navigation. The app also tends to not navigate to the alert when I click the alert and see the article. Instead, it puts me to the main article rather than the alert. The problem here is, the behavior never acknowledges the alert has been seen, making the number of alerts seen on the icon pointless..DsatowVersion: 7.3.2

Local News failFor the last several months, I have not been able to access articles in the Local News section. Any time I tap an article to read it, it displays the first article in the bottom section — at the moment, it’s the “People are there for you” one. If I swipe to try and access the previous article, it takes me back to the article list. When I saw the app had been updated with bug fixes, I got my hopes up, but it’s still doing the same darn thing. It’s really frustrating, since I like the app in general..Terrio2Version: 6.9.2

Love this appKeeps me informed and up to date. 2020 was an unusual year and as such, even more valuable to have this app and its notifications. Alerted to fire Hazzard’s, evacuation notices and regions, vaccine clinics and current Bay Area Covid tiers. I suspect it would have told me when and if a swarm of locusts were on the way. ClickbaitThe local news provided here is timely and informative, but what’s with the clickbait “articles” following the actual articles? This is a news app! The stories following the news articles should be other news and information, not internet trash. If you need revenue, go with ads from reputable companies. Im completely immersed in caregiving elderly parents and grandchildren so I don’t have much time to read the news paper or listen to it on tv or radio. Great Local AppThe local, and national news are great and are delivered quickly. However, the weather portion of it is a plus. Best Bay Area News AppNBC Bay Area is the best Bay Area local news app. It’s not perfect to me, but it has more contents than CBS or KGO news app. I also like their weather portion because it has the hourly forecast of wind speed which I use to gage how much hotter it would be without a breeze outside. Stop with the rain notifications!I think it’s a decent app for news (both national and Bay Area specific). My complaint is the weather/rain notifications, that seem to get triggered by location services. On my commute to work this morning I had about 12 “moderate rain detected”... pretty obnoxious. Um 😕It’s ok, but searching is prohibitively difficult- a search for “togo cocktail bill” couldn’t find a story called “to-go cocktails will stick around” also the livestream looks for wifi unsuccessfully even though the rest of the app is functioning on lte/5g, but worst of all the app shuts off if I navigate away and loses where I was. Whoever idea THAT was is just adding to perception that all media companies are eyeball greedy to the exclusion of any concern for user experience. Great app! Few suggestions, though.Overall, this app does what it’s meant to do. I took stars off because I wish there were more options when it comes to push notifications. I love push notifications for news, but do not care for certain things like sports and politics. It spams my phone and Fitbit with news I do not want on push notifications. News not Program InfoI can only give this app a 2 star rating. The news itself is great. And the app, while a bit laggy and clunky at times, is better than what you’d expect for a local news app. However, the real reason for the low rating is that there is no way to turn off the program alerts. Sending me breaking news alerts is fine and exactly what I signed up for. But pushing an alert for figure skating finals or for the live version of some ridiculous holiday movie is VERY ANNOYING! The advertising is AWFUL and abusiveBefore RVERY news clip you have to watch a 30+ second ad. EVERY CLIP! That means in 5 minutes or less if need, you will see at least 10 clips. Even when the news clip is shorter than the ad! And it is usually the same ad over and over. Even when I tried to send feedback on this in the app, the app scrolls the bottom of the screen to an ad while you are typing your comment. There are many other news apps. Utterly UselessIf you want to want a live broadcast, as I often do since I left the Bay Area, the app demands your location. As soon as you allow it to use your location, it only shows you NBÇ affiliate news from a local channel, like whatever BFE town you happen to be in. If I installed a Bay Area NBC news app, I expect to see Bay Area news only, when I choose the live stream! Stop using my location to choose local stations when I’m not in the Bay Area!
