Description

UltraTrainer is your virtual coach, trainer, and training partner. It is a revolutionary timer which was not available previously on any mobile device.

There are two types of intervals which can be mixed in UltraTrainer:
- Traditional Intervals
- Randomized Action Intervals

In a traditional interval, the interval is a specified duration. This is what you would normally expect from an interval timer. Routines such as Tabata, HIIT, etc, are incredibly easy to setup and modify.

The Randomized Action Intervals is where UltraTrainer truly breaks new ground. UltraTrainer will call out Actions for you to perform in random order AND at random times that you control.

For example, if you are shadow boxing or hitting the heavy bag, you would normally think of a combination of punches and throw them. Instead of consciously coming up with the combination, UltraTrainer can tell you what punches to throw. It can call out 'JAB!', then a second later 'JAB CROSS!', then a second and a half later, 'CROSS HOOK!', until the interval ends.

This is how UltraTrainer can be your virtual coach/trainer/training-partner: you can not train reactionary reflexes without somebody or something telling you what to do in random order and at random times.

Martial artists can work on reflexes by creating timers that randomize movement ("Forward!", "Backwards!") and actions ("Sprawl!").

Cyclists can simulate mountain road courses by setting up intervals that randomize pedaling speed.

Crossfit athletes make HEAVY use of timers for quick high-intensity workouts. The sample timer "Fight Gone Horribly Wrong" is based on "Fight Gone Bad" but with a twist. Each of the 5 stations is called out in random order and the duration at each station is randomized between 20 seconds and 1 minute. The result? A franticly paced workout because you never REALLY know when the next station will be called out so you have to try to completely exert yourself at the current station.

For a complete workout, you can set up a Timer Group which will play individual timers back to back. Start out with your favorite Warm Up timer, then run through your favorite Training timer, and end with a Stretching timer. UltraTrainer will run you through your full workout automatically.

Exclusive to our products, users can browse the Timer Exchange, a community where people freely exchange timers. Search, browse, and download timers that other users have uploaded. If you want, you can upload your own timers to share with others.

You can also trade timers directly with a friend using E-mail, or the clipboard to transfer them other ways.

UltraTrainer can be used for martial arts, mma, boxing, bjj, circuit training, interval training (Tabata, HIIT), Crossfit, yoga, meditation, cycling, running / sprinting, swimming, time-management, multi-stage recipes for cooking, weight lifting, stretching, and anything else you might be able to think of. As you can see, UltraTrainer can be used in all sorts of situations.

Features in UltraTrainer:
- Timer Exchange community
- Runs in the background
- Random interval actions
- Copy/Paste Intervals and Actions
- Rearrange intervals
- Delayed start time
- Over 70 included sounds
- Record your own sounds
- Large portrait or landscape countdown timer display

UltraTrainer App Comments & Reviews

UltraTrainer Positive Reviews

Great app for workouts but developer appears to have stopped updating itI love this app. It's one of my top apps I use for my training and workouts. But it would seem the app is no longer receiving updates. It has some bugs in it now that I would love to see fixed but isn't getting done. Because of that, I can only give 4 star rating even though this is a 5 star app.Version: 7.5

Exceptionally usefulI am a professional martial artist and have used Ultra Trainer for years. Yeah, there’s a bug or two but there is no other random interval timer in existence that I know of, and it’s invaluable for solo training with a heavy bag. You record whatever combos you want and then while you work the bag UT makes you do them at random times. This is a game changer for building reaction time and adaptability. Without the app, you do a combo when you’re ready on your time, but with it you are forced to react just like you would to changing circumstances in a fight. I wish there was a dedicated hardware unit that would do the same thing but as is, Ultra Trainer does it’s job admirably. If you are concerned with it’s integration with your music library, you aren’t training hard enough! Thanks devs. Superior product that fills a real need..Version: 7.5

Best out there15 years later, it is still the best interval trainer out there. Timer groups, Timers, intervals, and activities within them means this is the most versatile app of its kind. It needs Apple Watch support and text to speech (although the record voice works as a a great alternative). But this app should not have been abandoned. It’s the gold standard..Version: 7.5

Well done. Please add Apple Watch functionality. It would be very useful to have my watch vibrate/tap when it is time to change intervals..Version: 7.3.1

Couldn't for the life of me...Figure out why the sound kept disappearing 20 minutes into my workouts, now I know and am glad it's fixed. Wondering if anyone knows an easier way to transfer a workout to a regular ipod? I have quite a few workouts that I have to transfer to my regular ipod as it's less bulky to wear at the gym. Right now I have to record the workouts through an audio recording program which is very time consuming..Version: 5.3

Crashes When You Record Yr Own NoisesWhen I try to add new drills (eg “slip drill,” “footwork ladder,” and so forth) using the record function the app closes. This is terribly frustrating. Tried to email the app devs but emails bounced back. Please fix!.Version: 7.4

Most recent update has some Voiceover issuesUsed to have great Voiceover support. Now however, there some unlabeled buttons in the timers. Please fix. Would be happy to give a 5 star rating otherwise. IPhone SE iOS 11.1..Version: 7.4

Great appThis app is very well implemented. You can set up a series of intervals and within each interval set up actions to take place at random intervals. And even better you can download other peoples timers for free. I got some great workouts this way and it made it easier for me to set up my own by modifying premade ones. The only thing I could ask for is more prade workouts to download especially total body ones. I think there are tons of crossfit and 300 style workouts that this app could totally be used for and it would be just prrfect if they were preloaded or available for download..Version: 0

Best Interval Timer - I bought them allThis is the best one on the market. We've used this for basic interval timing and complex multiphase fitness programs. Nothing comes close this app. They make it simple to setup complex sequences. We also like the easy way to share timers with other coaches - just select the timers you want to share, then email them for easy import. The only thing I'd like is to see an integrated heart beat monitor feature like one of the other products has. But as a flexible, well crafted interval timer, this one is the one we always use..Version: 5.5.2

Much better than I expectedI haven't tried any of the other timers out there but I was VERY impressed with this one's functionality. Entering in the exercises is a bit of a pain, but once they're in there customizing routines is easy. At $3 I felt I got a lot more than I paid for. Update: being able to share programs across devices via wireless connection...very cool guys, thanks. Still using this app after well-over a year. I have about 30 different fitness programs..Version: 5.5.2

It's a very good app - but no support, a feature won't work.I love this app but for weeks I haven't been able to make the Bluetooth export / import feature work. Over two weeks ago I contacted the developers with their email support address - the only support I found on their site. No response. I've downgraded this app to three stars because of the complete lack of support and a major and very useful feature didn't work in the previous version and still doesn't in this version. I still recommend buying it..Version: 0

Workout WarriorFor anyone who loves to do Tabata and high intensity circuit training, this is a great app. Love the fact that I can create my own workouts and the random action feature is next level. I do have a question. I have recorded some of my own sounds and seem to have run out of audio storage. Is there a way to delete your own recorded sounds? Thanks!.Version: 5.3

Nearly perfectWorks great - the boxing action sounds really help mix up my heavy bag workouts, and setting up a sprint timer for HIIT was easy. I suggest making deleting actions, intervals, etc., more intuitive. Swiping to delete is common in apps, but as a shortcut. A delete button would be nice..Version: 0

FANTASTIC!I was looking for a timer that I could customize to do burst or interval training on the treadmill. I also need something with good visual to know when the interval had changed. This is perfect! For 3 minutes, the screen is light blue and I have a low intensity interval. Then the screen is red for the 3 minute high intensity interval, and so on. I also have the duration of the intervals change throughout. So I get the number of intervals I want, the lengths I want, and a count down of the interval along with a color change on the screen. Excellent. Highly recommend! iPad version would be nice..Version: 0

Works great but what about free upgrade to HD?This app works pretty much as described - very flexible ways to set up intervals. I would have given it 5 stars except I received no response when I emailed about the free upgrade to UT HD for the iPad. It's the most flexible timer/interval app I haves used!.Version: 0

Best timer/trainer.I have bought and tried other timers. This is the best one so far. Plays in the background while I listen to music. My only gripe would be.....I want more boxing workouts (with punches, rather than #'s)..Version: 5.3

Best trainer! This is the perfect trainer! You don't have to think you just throw the punch he yells out. I do wish they would add pre programed kicks! please . but if I had a mic I could program them myself!.Version: 0

Brilliant Concept......and even better execution. Insanely versatile and modifiable, this app is one of the smartest buys I've made. The Random Action Function alone sets it apart from every other timer out there..Version: 0

Getting Better!I've had this app for some time now and I can honestly say they are making efforts to improve and make this app more user friendly and versatile. I am impressed!.Version: 5.5.2

Great app!!!Exactly what I was looking for. I hope the creators of this app provide constant updates as this is by far the best app I have seen of it's kind. Don't stop know....Version: 0

Innovative idea!!As a long time user of the ultra timer I knew I had to try this out. I love the idea of randomized intervals and commands. Can't wait to fully implement this in my training programs. Thanks guys!!.Version: 0

Like it a lot but.....Love the concept of this app bit having major issue with the music dimming at times for an entire interval, then blasting on the next. Just deleted & reinstalled - hoping it fixes the issue!.Version: 0

Update makes it functional for me againAdded back support for OS3.x. I am again a happy camper, thanks!.Version: 0

Awesome for crossfitEspecially love the timer exchange which has every potential canned sequence I could ever want..Version: 5.3

Great appNeeds a stopwatch with a delayed timer. Maybe with audible start and stop..Version: 0

VersatileDoes everything you need in a timer and then some. The random intervals and actions are great for martial arts striking and reaction work. Great!.Version: 0

Works wellAfter this last update everything seems to be working as it should. Very well actually! I would like to see bigger buttons though, as the ones that are on the app now are way to close together. As long as I don't have to pause anything I am ok. I have tried to pause the timer and hit the stop button instead. A way to lock the orientation would be a nice feature as well..Version: 5.3

Great App for fitnessThis is an awesome app with lots of flexiblity..Version: 0

Huge update from "rounds" timer, incredible value, one minor glitch. So I bought rounds and used it for a year. I believe it was made by the same company. it had it's problems like, you couldn't pause just the music and it took me a really long time to program excersize routines because you couldn't mix "timer groups" like you can here. Even so it was a great value at $4 instead of an expensive physical timer for a hundred dollars or so. This app, Ultra Trainer, works way better! all other problems I had are pretty much gone. its wonderful to be able to save my own voice recordings for alarms. That way when in my work out it's time to move on to say, pushups, I hear my voice say to myself "pushups" or "you have five seconds left" or whatever I want. This is great because I listen to the evening news podcast from the previous night while I work out outside in the morning at the park. The glitch: so there is this cool funtion where you can add actions inside of an interval that can be "random" or run in the order of "as listed." this way I can program it to say "run hard" for a random amount of time and "run easy" for a random amount of time, and so on. what great is that it's within an interval! The glitch is that the "as listed" option in these actions doesnt work properly. For whatever reason it mixes up the order. It does so consistantly, but it doesn't do it from the top action down to the bottom action, at least not when the interval is, lets say, the the third interval. Minor glitch, but it took me 20minutes to figure out why my stretches were all mixed up. Anyway, great app, and I'm looking forward to downloading and sharing some timer programs with others on the "timer exchange" community that you can access and upload/download to inside the app. Pretty great for $4!.Version: 5.3

Great training programGreat idea, still buggy though. Music volume control is more random than setting a random interval in the software. Sometimes it works...... Would have given 4 or 5 stars if the dev would even acknowledge an email......Version: 5.2

One of a kindVery nice idea, hope it will get even better. My only problem right now is that after the last update the pause is kinda broken. Update: after the recent bugfix release, pause is still broken for me: I pause timer on rest interval, then resume -- an the app crashes just as rest interval ends. Update #2: sorry, even after the latest update (which was supposed to fix exactly this) it crashes on resume just like before. Had to adjust by not using pause....Version: 5.3

Current version Does fix the bugs mentioned in the reviewThis was a very useful app until a few updates ago. Now the sound is unreliable by often not playing after 15 min or so. Why don't you just role back the updates since so many people are complaining about ultratrainer and ultratimer not working anymore. The slightly newer interface didn't add much. Update: 5.3 does fix it! Thank you. Now this app rocks..Version: 5.3

Good, but could be better with more user options.I find this app really useful, but it does need to extra options for creating and using exercise routines. Here's are a few suggestions to help make this a really great app: - include a global on/off for sounds (warnings, starting and stopping activities, etc). I find some of the included sounds way to loud, and the is no current way to mute the app sounds and still allow iPod audio to play through. - the app really, really needs to allow for repetitions of Actions, and not solely for the parent Activity. This would make setting up intervals much, much easier and intuitive. - portrait and landscape mode for the application itself, and not just the timer/training mode. - respond to emails. As myself and others have noted, there doesn't seem to be much response from the company. I've been waiting several days for a respond regarding their free offer to upgrade to the HD version, even though their app description states to email them directly, it should take this long to get a response back. - include a color picker to set the background colors for activities and warnings..Version: 5.2

Needs to connect too Apple MusicGreat app. Needs to connect to Apple Music. Also needs to fix the orientation from upright to side.Version: 7.5

BestBest timer training app out there but on some complicated routines it just crashes which is not good in the middle of a workout and is frustrating after having spent time designing a workout so I'm lowing the score.Version: 5.3

Great appVery good for time customization-best I have seen. Needs to be able to insert already made actions or intervals into workouts more easily and use custom sounds in workout from sound files on iPhone. Great app.Version: 0

Amazing appTried em all , tgis is all in 1!.Version: 5.2

Very useful appThis app is well worth the few dollars it costs. It's a very useful tool for anyone who trains on their own or with a partner. I love the customizability and features. Also includes a great feature to share timers with other users..Version: 0
