ChargePoint® App Comments & Reviews

ChargePoint® Positive Reviews

App has plenty of room for improvementIn its current version, I consistently see a few common recurring issues: 1. If a site has multiple multi port stations, older versions would show the percentage (blue=in use, green=available) of ports that are currently available. Presently with current version it seems to show just percentage of available stations. So if you have 2x 2 port stations, and 1 is available on each, it shows 100% available when it’s really 50%. If 3 ports in use, will show 50% available when it’s only 25%. 2. Frequently get a message showing “ChargePoint network unavailable”, then won’t refresh info. 3. A station that we use frequently with 2x dual port ChargePoint stations is OFTEN showing the status of one or the other with a status of “Unknown”, even though the station itself may physically seem to be operating normally. 4. If you want to “Report a Problem” the app mandates that you take a picture of the station. Sometimes you might see something happen to your charge session part way through and just want to provide some feedback after the fact, but the app is still going to force you to take a picture of “something” at least before you can submit anything. Plenty to improve on within the app, and it still feels like the hardware isn’t quite fully up to par yet either..Version: 6.20.0

Love this app but a suggestionSo I’ve been using Chargepoint ever since I got my EV and it’s my tried and true charging app—it shows which chargers are available so you don’t waste your time going somewhere that’s already taken, and you can filter results to look for Fast chargers or specific networks. I also love that you can use the balance you’ve already paid for in this app to pay for chargers from other networks. I hate having balances just sitting in multiple apps. One thing I really wish they changed is how they charge you when your balance gets low. Currently it decides how much to reload your account based on usage and I can’t seem to find anywhere where you can control how much they take out of your account. It used to be just $20 at a time for me and then it went up to $40 when I get low. Although I get they’re trying to anticipate your needs for you, as a broke college student I’d rather see that money leave my account more as I go than lose more than I expected and not be able to pay for other necessities that week. If it was $20 at a time or whatever I set it as, I would be able to just notice how fast it’s being spent and adjust if needed. Example: sometimes I’ll take a trip and am using a lot of chargers so they reload with $40. But then I get back from the trip and just charge at home and am missing $40 for the next month. If I set this myself I would know I wouldn’t need that much for the next month and wouldn’t choose to reload with $40. Anyways this is the best charging app I’ve found and I really like the Chargepoint network! I would just like more control over how my account balance is reloaded..Version: 5.98.1

Charging Kia Niro EVHonestly use just about every charging System out there. This one “Chargepoint” in my opinion does it right. simple scan from the app stored easily in my apple wallet to the easy “prompt to plug in” to “charging” it’s the easiest system out there to follow. Not only that. From day 1. I have never received a message about connection failures or any issues from their stations like i have experienced from other vendors! solid easy to use and reliability. That’s been my experience. i have a HUGE REQUEST of this company. Can you please Replace and repair the Stations at the Jacksonville International Airport. Possibly replacing those with combination chargers that accommodate CCS1 High Speed Chargers as there are not enough of them here in JACKSONVILLE / Duval County and Sureounding Clay County, St. John’s County, Nassau County. St. Augustine. Gainesville. We need more Combination High Speed Chargers installed NOT NOT NOT what we have currently. A Lot of broken J1772 Chargers. Can we just standardize one type of adapter for Charging? Like all vehicles use either The Tesla adaptation or the CCS1 Model. There’s too many variants of Charging and it’s really confusing the consumers out here. Anyway please add new locations of Charging stations to our region. as we have only 1 single location for your “Chargers” on Dunn Ave. here in Jacksonville, Fl. (Not enough) please add more. PLEASE. Consumer NEED!!!! Urgent Request!!!!! For JACKSONVILLE PROPER AND SURROUNDING AREAS!!!!! Thank you..Version: 6.9.3

Chargers not appearing on appSo, a recent problem has developed around me were chargers that are active and functioning, are not connected to the app. The weird part is they are still connected to the ChargePoint system. I get a text after saying I have charged and my cost is deducted from my ChargePoint app, so they linked somehow. It is annoying because otherwise the ChargePoint app is much better at tracking my state of charge than the KIA app, so I would like to be able to check and not stay connected after my charge is complete. The inconsistency of the app also compounds another problem, which is the unreliability of the ChargePoint network as a whole. Since they are independently owned, there seems to be little quality control from ChargePoint Corporate over the functionality of each charger. In Northwest Indiana, I don’t believe it would be an exaggeration to say that 25% of the ChargePoint branded stations are not functional at any given time. This has gotten worse since the sunset of 3G, which many of the earlier stations used to communicate. While ChargePoint will always point to the “independent” ownership model as the reason for this, I ask them this question. Would McDonalds (also independent locations) be a success if fully 25% of the restaurants in a given area where closed during normal hours on any given day. I believe in ChargePoints mission, and I hope they can find a way to encourage owners to keep their chargers operable, or at least get the ones that never are ripped out..Version: 5.101.1

When technology is master you can reach disaster fasterIn an age where you call an 800 number for technical support and after a series of frustrating calling tree delays only to speak to someone who is at best clearly reading from a trouble shoot manual and putting you on hold with any even vaguely difficult question… they are doing their best… realize that the company that really put you there is the same one you paid for their service and hardware… Now comes Charge Point, a company representing a vital part of the technology of electric vehicles … the future, a cleaner more possible planet… with a reliable product and consistently high quality customer support around the clock… I’ve never waiting more than 2.5 minutes to be connected to someone I could understand and had the correct solution… if I ever experience anything less, I will let you know… we all deserve it… it is our planet the one we borrowed from our grandchildren..Version: 5.115.1

All in one for EV driversThe ChargePoint app has become my go-to tool for all my EV charging needs. Whether I’m planning a long road trip or just commuting locally, this app makes everything seamless. It combines features like locating charging stations, real-time availability updates, and starting a charge with a single tap. The integration with my vehicle’s data to track charging costs and energy usage is a game-changer for staying efficient. What I love most is how comprehensive it is—it works across most of charging networks, not just ChargePoint’s, giving me confidence that I can find a station almost anywhere. The app even allows me to filter by charging speed and connector type, which is super convenient. Add in the ability to schedule charging and monitor sessions remotely, and you truly have an all-in-one tool for EV drivers. Highly recommended for anyone looking to simplify their EV experience and stay powered up no matter where they go!.Version: 6.11.1

Great when it works, poor when errors ariseMost of the time it works great, but occasionally I run into hiccups that prevent me from charging using their network. The largest issue I run into is payment methods being removed for some reason. When this happens and I try to add a card again, I run into cryptic errors like “MFA operation not allowed” when trying to add Apple Pay and manual card adding requires verifying my phone number. These verification message takes almost five minutes to arrive and by that point I already left the page. When I retry, it says I exceeded my number of attempts and tells me to try again later without providing the cooldown interval. Worst of all, ChargePoint allows operators to block tap to pay at stations so if I can’t use the app, I can’t charge at that station for an unknown amount of time. For a service that I’ve come to rely on, it is disappointing to find it leaving me out to dry on numerous occasions with no workaround than to wait unknown amounts of time..Version: 6.19.0

Gets the Job Done But Couple of Wishlist ItemsApp UI is great. Simple, effective, easy-to-use. I’ve never had an issue with connectivity or any frustrations you typically get with an app. My couple of wishlist requests are that 1) there was some sort of indicator for chargers that are not available to the public. It takes a bit of time to open up every single location and sift through the tips to see if I can even access a charger or if it’s behind a keyed gate, only for employees, etc. 2) I’d love if there was also an indicator for chargers located in free vs. paid parking garages. Paying $1.50 per kWh isn’t too bad but when you’re also charged a $5 minimum for parking, petrol instantly becomes the more cost effective method of fuel. Both of these would save time and really improve (at least one user’s) experience!.Version: 5.83.2

Awesome app for EV ownersChargePoint is a great service and they did a great job with this app—so much so that I bought a home EV charger from them. The app makes it pretty easy to find and monitor charging stations, which has been essential to me as a Tesla owner in a locale without superchargers. The home charger integration works seamlessly allowing you to control charging times and even choose from multiple utility rates (or set manually) to track spending. The one thing I would like to see is a way to add charging locations, or at least suggest them. This may be difficult since it will require moderation but I think the community could use some. For example, there is a charging location that has been on the map for at least a year that is no longer available. Granted, it was out of the CP network, but I can’t even flag that it’s gone..Version: 5.86.3

Update: Significant improvement in AppUpdate: Since my last review, Charge point has made significant improvements that are important to the users. Waitlist and Charge status is more reliable and accurate, station uptime has also improved showing commitment towards making station available to users. Even though their network is large they have invested little into App. Lots of bugs but Charging status is incorrect, Waitlist feature does not work correctly to name a few Update: Lowering the rating as core problems still exists. The numero uno problem App after the latest update that it is buggy and fails to show the inprogress sessions. Leading to inaccurate session information, frustration and inaccurate billing problems. And not sure why is there a requirement to stop the session in-app. Once the plug is back in the charger should be a good indication that session has ended. Come on engineers this should be easy fix..Version: 6.9.3

Chargepoint app Works and when it doesn’t support is thereI have had issues with chargers and bugs and also times with support not being able to fix random bugs and issues with our companies’ wait queue sending wrong notices and stations not giving charge. Just like having internet, there may be multiple factors involved and downtimes are inevitable. That being said, the support has been there to at least relay info and attempt to troubleshoot. The issues have been chalked up to our electrical building issues, queue bugs, internet connection for station, for app and for phone, car not being on the correct settings, people damaging the station by not unrotating the connector wire like a phone cable, vandals breaking lever so charge won’t initiate which u can bypass by sticking something where lever should go, the quick charge station not being active, stations that overcharge ie Honda dealership, not stopping charge in app before unplugging which can prevent queue issues and stop charge correctly, our waitlists having inconsistent or incorrect notifications, wrongly sending out your turn notifications or not accepting your turn once you app swipe or card swipe, putting you on a priority waitlist before others if you card swipe before normally waitlist autoqueueing happens, quickchargers not being where gps says, status of charger not being correct(some users note issues which helps) which Chargept doesn’t manage as owners vary, whew! So you see even with the issues I love Chargepoint for the cost and that everything normally works and even when it doesn’t, you have someone to talk to and eventually get it fixed as well as the quantity of stations that are available for the areas I live. Blink is the next best as Chargepoint is comparatively better at almost everything except things like charge cost calculation where sites charge by time and not Amount and station locations not as easily accessible. Chargepoint has the graph and info while charging, option to stop remotely, better userbase with notes, better LCD panel, slightly less accurate location finder when they are not gps capable underground parkings..Version: 5.41.1

Does the bare minimum for home usersI’m sure that everyone is aware that always topping off their EV battery does not promote longevity. This app should support: 1) empirical charging curves, not just estimates based on vehicle (which are well off) and 2) charging to a specific level expressed as a percentage or range in miles. I’m actually surprised—as a home user—that this software is so primitive from a company that’s been in the EV business for quite some time and has good hardware products. Update: It would be nice to have “no charge” time of day during which rates are at peak expense. We sometimes plug in during the day but need to resort to alarms to tell us to stop charging before peak expensive hours. Lastly, it takes a long time once you hit the “Start Charging” button in the app before charging actually starts. No doubt your ability to charge is controlled by ChargePoint. Just don’t need this privacy intrusion in the loop..Version: 5.105.0

Customer Support is uselessI’ve been trying for over 3 weeks to be able to add my new 2024 Kona EV Limited to my account. However, the seoo-down list for model year doesn’t go past 2021. The drop-down list for the color of my car is also wrong. I’ve submitted service requests through their web page and no response other than a ticket has been opened. I also called their support number and the CS agent took my information and opened a ticket and said she would see if their software team could enter the car information for me. So far, no good. I would to think what kind of service I would get if I was stuck at one of their chargers that wouldn’t connect to my car. Hyundai even recommends ChargePoint chargers for home installation and i have one. The charger seems to work in spite of not being able to enter the correct information for my new EV..Version: 6.3.2

Needs workI am charging my car with public stations more often now and it took me a while to get used to it. When you hold the phone to a charging unit nothing happens. Why, because you need to have the app running as well. After the communions between the app and the charger happens you still have to double push the right button on your phone to start. In the app there is an option to have a picture of the charging unit. If I am able to upload a picture that I already took that will be great. However, you need to take a picture with the app. There is no option to use a picture that you took earlier or with another camera and upload that. Not related to the app but customer support is a joke. For the longest time now I am trying to add a MasterCard as payment to my account. This is not possible only Visa and PayPal are valid payments..Version: 5.85

For home can’t turn offIn general, this is a great charger. But two main complaints -one the manual is very un user-friendly. There should be two sets of instructions -one for the installer and one for the homeowner. As it is, it took the Electrician and I hours to figure it out. The other issue is there is there should be a button on your phone app to turn the charger on and off. The only way to turn the charger off so that an unauthorized users can’t use it is a very awkward method of putting on a schedule. Sometimes the owner would want to charge it outside of the schedule. So this is really not helpful. It would help that when they update the software they could have on or off button. Otherwise random people could use your charger as it shows up on searches for chargers..Version: 6.12.0

Improve price visibility and charger availability notifications.A good, functional app. It would be better if users could view $/kwh directly on the map. Just like gas prices. Some stations are drastically more expensive than others. Also, the estimated price for 15 minutes is not a reliably useful metric. This depends on many variables like battery status, temperatures, charger hardware, etc. Just show the price per kWh front and center without having to dig for it. Maybe you could add a stat like average time users spend charging in the last 30 days which might give some indication of how long a charging session might take. My second suggestion is to give users the ability to batch select stations at a location for notification of availability. Currently, you have to select each station individually if they are all busy and this is time consuming..Version: 6.11.1

Fine, but needs important improvementsChargePoint has been one of the better EV charging services and apps. For the most part it works pretty well in terms of an app to locates chargers and charge your EV. It tells you when stations are available, which is nice. However, it needs tighter management of its points of presence. For example, ChargePoint allows a provider to restrict access to a charger where it’s not open or accessible to the public but many providers seem too lazy to use it. The result is that the app shows you all sorts of chargers that you can’t get to and use. At the very least, the app should allow for users to denote that the charger is not actually publicly accessible. It would also be nice if ChargePoint chargers just recognized your vehicle and charged you so you wouldn’t ALWAYS need the phone but many of their chargers must be unlocked via the app..Version: 6.1.1

Easy to use, lacks features and abilitiesOur home chargers were easy to set up and they are easy to use. But this review is about the app, not the chargers. The app is fine when using at a public charger. However, the app only gets 3 stars from because it lacks two important features for my home chargers: 1) We are a two EV household and have two homes with a charger in each. The App won’t allow more than one home charger per account, so we have to have different accounts for each home, which just seems silly in 2023. Constantly logging into one and out of another every weekend. 2) I’d also like to be able to see how many amps my charger is pulling during the charging period, which is a feature other home charger apps offer (and their hardware costs a little less). Feedback on the charging overall is just a little basic..Version: 5.109

Better then you’re leading ev charging appHonestly I just got my car about 3 weeks ago a did virtually no Reserch before hand on charging ports I now this one one of the first apps I downloaded and I have to say compared to others this one is the best the only downsides I can see to the app/company would be the card cost $5 & some times the map isn’t as accurate as it should be but really what is these days. Good points of the app house a pretty good map out of charge points you can start and stop charging from this app and it works for the most part pay the $5 and get a card to just in case ( like if you’re ever charging you’re car in a parking garage that’s underground you need at least one bar for it to pick up a connection from you’re phone and that’s why having the card also is crucial!!! Good app and it’s free!.Version: 5.18.1

Keeps saying something went wrong with paymentIt used to be a seamless experience where I would tap my ChargePoint card and it will automatically charge my credit card on file when I’m done. After the recent update, I keep getting an email that says something went wrong with my payment and that the card was declined. I go into the app under payment and update it with the exact same credit card and the payment goes through. I thought this was an issue because I was using tap to pay, but I tried activating the charger through the app instead and still run into the same issue where my payment doesn’t go through after I’m done charging. Again, it does go through when I update the payment with the exact same credit card that didn’t work before. Please fix this issue.Version: 6.20.1

It worked great!I took the opportunity to use the charge point app the other day, I had driven my EV car to Baskin Palmer Eye institute in Miami on 95 from Pompano Beach, I arrived with just 45 miles left on my Nissan Leaf. I took out my phone and the charge point app and pulled up the list of available charging stations closest to me. The location came up on google maps and made finding the charging station super easy, I had never used one before so I was surprised even though it was a free charge station I still needed to hold the phone up to it to unlock it. I figured it out? It was super easy and charged up enough while my dad was in his doctor appointment to let us go to breakfast f snd get me home , with 30 miles left. Thank you, great app!.Version: 5.77

Great app for one home chargerBeen using the app for a couple of years since we bought our first EV and had our first ChargePoint home charger installed in the garage. It always controlled that charger fine. Then we bought a second EV and a second ChargePoint home charger for the garage. Then we got a vacation home in another state and have an EV there with a third ChargePoint charger in that garage. Unfortunately, the app only controls one ChargePoint home charger. If you have more than one, then you have to uninstall each one before installing the next and so on. The app should allow users to control multiple home chargers through simple drop down menus by now. Doesn’t the developer want to encourage users to buy multiple home charger hardware?.Version: 6.16.1

Horrible As of LateAs other people mentioned, you HAVE to make an account and hand over all your data before you can even plug in for your first charge. Typical Silicon Valley behavior. Now, the last few times I went to my local charger station and scanned my Apple Pay, it kept giving me an error message like “multiple cards detected” (I only have one debit card linked to my account). So then I decided to scan my actual plastic debit card and they really hit me with a FIFTY DOLLAR FEE! For context I usually pay like five bucks max to charge my BMW i3. This is just ridiculous and downright predatory. Too bad the other EV charge companies do the same scummy tactics. Just another reason I regret purchasing an EV vehicle!.Version: 6.20.2

Every EV Owner Needs This App!I’ve only had an EV for a month but ChargePoint has been a very useful app I use several times a week. I live across the street from 4 free public EV chargers provided by National Grid (Massachusetts) and ChargePoint. I decided to not use a physical card and have been using the app to display the chargepoint credentials on my iPhone and then present the phone to the card reader. It works perfectly every time. I also like how it notifies me via push notifications when my car is fully charged. I can view each time I charged my car and it tells me how long it was there and how much energy was transferred. I am loving the whole EV experience with my Tesla Model 3 right now and the chargepoint app helps add to the awesomeness !!.Version: 5.67.2

Mostly good but has some issuesThe most annoying is when I schedule a charge, it keeps telling me in the app that charging is completed before charging starts and even when it’s actively charging. It should at least notice that current is flowing and say “charging”. I can understand it misinterpreting when nothing is charging but once the car starts a charge, it should be smarter. But turns out it’s more agile than the car. It at least updates every 5 minutes. On my home charger on the local network, it should update as soon as I ask status. Public charging, I get it with 5 minutes. But on my charger, I should see status immediately. But otherwise a good app and the mapping is great!.Version: 5.110.1

Great App, But Vehicle Database Out of DateThe App is visually appealing and easy to navigate with great charging statistics. However, the mileage statistics (How many miles a charge gave me) is incorrect as my vehicle is not in Chargepoints Database. I have a 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid that can do 38 miles and they only have up to the 2020 model to choose from when identifying your EV. Since the 2020 model can only do 32 miles total, 6 less, a full charge (1% to 100%) now reports that I charged approx. 26 miles. Even with that math, the mileage is still off by at least 6 miles. It’s good that the power consumption and electric cost estimation is almost spot on but the mileage estimation is useless until they fix it. Knocked off one star for that issue..Version: 5.85

Must have App for EV owners!ChargePoint is amazing. Being able to quickly find a charging station is only the start. Most times the locations of these chargers are near paid parking that is double or triple the price!! The ability to find parking that also chargers your EV is awesome. The technology is seamless when added to Apple wallet. Simply walk up the the charging station and touch your iPhone to the terminal and BOOM charger unlocked just plug it in and be on your way! Know charging rates vary by location, but just downloading this app to see chargers near you is free!! Give it a download if you own an EV or even if you don’t and just want to see the many locations ChargePoint offers!.Version: 5.74.3

Solid FunctionalityApp does the basics well across many platforms (phone, tablet, & CarPlay… not certain about watch app as it seems to spend a lot of time “finding available stations…”) and generally functions consistently without crashing. A few suggestions… add landscape on iPad (rare that I use portrait mode, so wind up not using the app and going to the website), disable button to “stop charging” after I’ve already stopped charging, add export options (e.g., CSV, XLS) to use history, allow greater flexibility in viewing trends (e.g., add daily & weekly time base—currently monthly only), and allow location-based filtering when browsing connections..Version: 6.18.0

Enjoyable Experience MostlyI enjoy using the app the only thing I’ve noticed is that I think there is an issue with time zones and daylight savings times. I have my home charger set to charge based on my areas rate plan schedule but yet it always starts an hour earlier than it’s supposed to which causes me to pay for more expensive electricity than I intended..Version: 6.20.0

Misleading sales informationI bought this unit based on it having a selectable charge rate. After choosing my installation hardware (breaker size). It fixes my charger to 11kW. My understanding when it was purchased would be that any charge rate up to the max supported by the installation components (wire gauge and breaker size) would be selectable via software. Had I known this is not the case I would have opted for the Grizzly. Is this something that will be selectable in a future update? Nice looking unit with a good user interface..Version: 5.99

Hawaii vacation (Aulani)Service was very easy and simple to understand. Installation and registration was smooth with no mishaps.Version: 5.116

Outdated DatabaseStill says my energy provider is energy+ but has been Grandbridge for 4 years now. They also don’t give me an option to select the ultra low overnight plan, so who knows what pricing they’re using. Auto reload doesn't always workFrustrating that ChargePoint chargers won't start if your balance on the account is too low.
