Falling Fruit is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Boulder, Colorado, USA. All proceeds from sales of our mobile app help pay to keep our servers and website online. Purchasing the app is itself a tax deductible donation, and we greatly appreciate your support in keeping Falling Fruit online!

Our global map of edible plants is not the first of its kind, but it aspires to be the world's most comprehensive. While our users contribute locations of their own, we comb the internet for pre-existing knowledge, seeking to unite the efforts of foragers, foresters, and freegans everywhere. Imported datasets range from small neighborhood foraging maps to vast professionally-compiled tree inventories. So far, this amounts to over 1,200 different edible types (most, but not all, plant species) distributed over nearly one million locations. Beyond the cultivated and commonplace to long-forgotten native plants and the exotic flavors of foreign plants, foraging in your neighborhood is a journey through time and across cultures.

Falling Fruit is not associated with Fallen Fruit. Fallen Fruit can be found at fallenfruit.org.

Falling Fruit App Comments & Reviews

Falling Fruit Positive Reviews

Great! (after creating account via web browser)Based on previous reviews (thanks, everyone!), I first created my account view web browser and did the email confirmation. Then I downloaded the app and entered my account info. So far, everything is working great. I am really excited about summer forays around town, working with both Falling Fruit and Litterati! (I gave 5 stars to encourage folks to try again. Maybe create a different account via web browser. Then the app should be useable.).Version: 0.2.1

Finicky but Still Fantastic!!After seeing the previous reviews I was a little hesitant on purchasing the app but I have not regretted it once! It is a game changer for any food forager out there and I’ve already recommended this app to friends. It’s great to contribute harvest spots and to be connected to a greater network of fellow food foragers. There’s some glitches to work out but you figure out how to handle the app pretty quick. Hope this helps!.Version: 0.2.1

Great App :: Powerful Tool for Botanical DiscoveryHey y'all, thank you SO MUCH for developing this great interface for people around the world to share knowledge about discovering the great green growing world around us. Tracking the edibles in urban landscapes brings up an idea that there may be scarcity if everyone knows...and also the opportunity for us to become aware that we can plant edible landscapes into our communities. It is a cause worth working and fighting for. Fruit trees on every corner. This app is has an incredibly easy-to-use interface that is functional from the get-go. No learning curve here. I just wish there was a way to edit/delete location on a pin I dropped in the wrong place, or, for example if a developer bulldozes the incredible elderberry grove I shared in the past. I would love to see that addition..Version: 0.2.1

Working great!I was skeptical to download based on previous reviews but a few recent reviews were positive so I went ahead and bought the app. It’s working great! You can search for specific edibles in your area. I did not attempt to edit a point or create a new log yet though. Overall, worth the $2. Would be great to get more crowd sourced data!.Version: 0.2.1

Aesthetically pleasing, needs some improvementI am so happy that an app has been created to promote easy foraging in my town! Thank you for turning this great idea into reality. It's a pretty app, but it needs a couple fixes. First, it would be nice if you could click the pin point and it would say what is there. Second, the "edible type" feature does not feature any drop down menu (there may be a glitch here). Otherwise keep up the good work, and I will continue to add to the database!.Version: 0.2.1

No confirmation email ☹️As stated by others, I paid, signed up, but received no confirmation email so could access the app. I messaged them via Facebook. Got a quick response and resolution. Great concept and good service. Happy to be part of this community!.Version: 0.2.1

Five Stars for PotentialI’m really looking forward to exploring and adding entries. I know there are many untapped locations in my area. *Is there any way to filter/remove “dumpster” entries? I can’t tell of they’re there as a joke, but they distract from the purpose of this awesome app..Version: 0.2.1

Works wellIt’s got some minor bugs and there’s plenty of room for improvement, but it does what it needs to do! I’m really enjoying using it and contributing to it..Version: 0.2.1

5 stars for a great ideaNeeds a little fixing As soon as you're finished that, how about a falling nuts site! Walnuts, pecans, acorns, etc When we lived in Texas we had a Pecan tree in our yard that we never had time to pick because we were so busy with our jobs, and people will stop by and ask if they could pick pecans, and we always said yes! They took several bushels of Pecans out of one tree that was less than 25 feet tall!.Version: 0.2.1

Catch UsWe are flying through this country foraging for frinedly fruits and un-empty dumpsters. But catch us because this app needs an update. To be able to find location of user using a better map service, or at least to fill the screen of recent phone screens with bigger format/screen size. Thank you, we are falling.Version: 0.2.1

Works…perfectly?Thw previous reviews had me questioning whether this was worth trying…but it works perfectly? Registration email was sent instantly and I logged in without trouble. I’m now looking at about 100 dots on the map within blocks of my home (I might be a slight outlier given my urban setting). Thank you Falling Fruit!.Version: 0.2.1

Was skeptical to download bc of reviewsApp works well now!.Version: 0.2.1

Great startBased on the fact that this is a beta it is Fantastic. I was able to add a point to the map and I was able to explore trees in my neighborhood. There are definitely a few bugs to work out. When I brought up the left menu when I was in list mode had a hard time getting back to the map mode..Version: 0.1

Excellent appApp was quick to respond to email regarding lack of receiving confirmation email. I can now check for snacks wherever I am!.Version: 0.2.1
