One recommendation for an otherwise great platformI have been using Etsy for years and love buying from small businesses. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences from the vendors and there are always so many new and creative items being posted every day. I prefer “doom scrolling” on Etsy to any other social media or seller platform.
One thing I find very annoying is the massive amounts of updates I get. I don’t want to be notified every time a shop has an update. I want to be able to favorite a shop or item so that I can easily find them when I’m ready to make a purchase. Unfortunately, the only way to stop receiving the notifications is to unfavorite shops and items or to turn off app notifications altogether. I want to be notified if I get a message, though so that option is not favorable either.
I get the marketing strategy, if you get a notification, you are more likely to open the app and, therefore, more likely to buy. However, I would rather unfavorite a shop or item to avoid the notifications. This is unfortunate for the shop owners because I know I’m not the only person who feels like this and it negatively impacts their sales. There are a lot of people who sell similar items and you aren’t guaranteed to easily find the same shop by searching for a particular item, unless you happen to remember the name of the shop.
I wish there was a separate “follow” functionality if you do want to get those updates so favoriting items and shops could allow you to easily find and support particular sellers..DeathfuzziesVersion: 6.28
ETSYI absolutely love ETSY! It has just about everything I want and need. Granted some shops are quite a bit pricier than others, but if you look around you can find what you want for the right price. A lot of times things are on discount, or there are deals on things, such as buy 1-several get one free, or free shipping. I love shopping on here for my fur babies items, Collars, tags, leashes, TuTus, clothes and much more along with car decals. Keep in mind there are so many more things to shop for. Make sure you look at the shipping price, because unless you are set on that item it can be pricey, and you may be able to find it cheaper on here. I just ordered a window decal for me, which I have never had a decal before, but my son is going into the Marines, so I have to support him. It was only $6.00 and something cents for a 6”x6”, and free shipping. By the way it was on clearance. Can’t go wrong with that deal. I just hope I get it in a timely manner. Usually their shipping is fairly fast as well. Stay in contact with the seller if you are concerned you haven’t gotten it by the time it says you are going to get it, and I have only had one somewhat direct/rude seller. I still remained calm, and they kind of checked their attitude. 9x10 the seller has always been so kind, and honestly I have never received a product I didn’t like or expect. ETSY is the place to go when looking for specialized/embroidered/monogrammed/etc. products!

Best Quality VintageI have been obsessed with Vintage Jewelry and fashions since I was a child and discovered it while playing dress up at my auntie’s! She had old prom dresses of my moms! And boxes of fun sparkly jewelry. I immediately started adding pieces to my wardrobe & wearing them to school and defined my personal style. Needless to say I have worked since then in the arts for over 30 years! And I still shop and buy a lot of Vintage both in person and online. Etsy is the one marketplace I consistently purchase from, because the sellers are not only really personal, but professional and really take offering unique and quality pieces and sending them clean and generally even packaged in some creative and feel good way! Making packages fun and their excellent condition undisappointing! I won’t mention another marketplace by name but 8 of 10 or more items I purchase there are flawed or damaged or worse yet imitations! Not when I buy from the delightful ETSY community! Therefore, when gifting, can buy a gift and know that I can have it sent directly to friends or family and they will be enormously happy with my unique quality and thoughtful choice! 🌈🌈 I also like shopping with real people and knowing my purchase benefits them personally, not some impersonal corporation. HAVE to have iOS 16?!I’m changing the score on here to 5 instead of 1, because they reached out, and even though I haven’t responded to them yet, the fact that they are trying to help is impressive. And truth be told, the rest of the app actually is great. I just got mad about the software. So, here’s what I originally wrote, as I’m not a dirty-deleter, and can handle sounding like a baby when I don’t get my way;
So I love this app, to be honest. It’s opened up some new talents and interests for me, and I’ve even made new friends because of it. I would never have expected that. HOWEVER, I recently activated my old iPhone 12 Pro Max, to try out the jailbreaks. It’s running 15.4.1. Before I tried them out though, something popped in my head and I decided to download Etsy so that I could look for something while I was getting the phone going. Well long story short it required iOS 16.0, so I cannot download it on my current software. Now, I understand if it was like an iPhone X or something. But 15.4.1 was not that long ago! I’m sure they could try to spin it against me since I mentioned jailbreaks, but not a piece of software had been loaded on the phone that has to do with that before I tried to download Etsy. Even with 17 coming out in a couple months, 15 is not that old, and it’s absolutely ridiculous to be told to update your phone. Even if I don’t end up jailbreaking it, I would keep it on that software because since it is jailbreakable, it automatically drastically increases the value of my phone. WEDDING REGISTRY FLAWEDToday I attempted to access and buy a wedding gift on Etsy. HOWEVER when it came to Check Out I was asked to provide the shipping address for the couple registered. A major flaw is that information was not stored in the Registry. Wedding invitations usually have that information printed on the RSVP envelope which is usually nowadays days addressed to the couple and therefore GONE when the RSVP card is mailed inside it. I had no choice but to choose a gift from another store registry listed on The Knot. I can’t imagine this necessary missing feature would be difficult to add to Etsy’s App. Shop owners on Etsy should demand this flaw be corrected because they’re completely losing out on potential sales.
Also vital details as to the sizes and colors available for certain items requiring these specifications as desired by the couple should be available during the registration process. They are obviously NOT or they would appear on the Registry. Again Etsy Shop owners get cheated out of sales. How sad for the Shop Owners; many of whom use Etsy exclusively to offer their handmade or custom goods in order to make a living. Etsy is one of a handful of marketplaces offering artisans’ works on an otherwise easy to use App.
If you want to buy a unique wedding gift from Etsy, bypassing behemoth corporate chains and instead support independent business owners which we much prefer doing, the flaws in the gift registries make it much more difficult than it should be. #FIXIT.PbjessicaVersion: 5.34.1
Etsy is great, but this app is just irritating to use on iPadOSI adore Etsy as a service, let me begin with that. I’ve been a customer with them for a few years now, and the storefront is intuitive to navigate and full of countless, unique pieces from thousands of talented people. Shopping, shipping, tracking, it’s always been a great experience. Etsy as a service I would gladly give 5 stars every time. However, while this app is overall great, and I’m sure works more or less flawlessly on iOS, the story is a bit different on iPadOS. The biggest issue is how the app interacts with trackpads. As anyone familiar with trackpad support on iPadOS or most laptops knows, two fingers are used to scroll both vertically and horizontally. For some reason, however, the Etsy app interprets a two finger horizontal swipes inconsistently. Swiping to the left will scroll through product galleries perfectly fine, but when you try to swipe to the right, the app interprets this as a back gesture, causing you to lose your place entirely and be sent back to the previous page. This also occurs when visiting a seller’s page and trying to scroll through their product galleries. This obviously makes the shopping experience quite annoying at times. Otherwise the home page feels very cluttered and has a lot of wasted space by thumbnails being overly large for the iPad’s screen size.
Again, Etsy as a service is lovely, and I’m sure the iOS version is perfect, but the iPadOS version is very frustrating at times, and I hope they polish it up in future so I can gladly tack on that last star..TonsofApplesVersion: 5.81
Be Careful and Research the seller!!I used to be a huge fan of Etsy back in the day when everything was handmade and crafted by small business owners. That unique vibe was what made it so special. But now, I often come across items labeled as handmade that clearly aren't. It hasn't been bad enough for me to bother returning anything, but it's definitely shaken my trust in the sellers. They know how to throw around buzzwords like “organic,” “artisan,” and “small business,” and it feels like they’re just cashing in without any real accountability. Ordering has become a bit of a gamble.
One time, though, I got really frustrated and felt I had to take action. I bought a pair of “vintage 1990 black CK jeans” from a seller who clearly just hit up Goodwill and marked them up. People were falling for her brand, and I admit I was one of them. She had this amazing pair that looked like a one-of-a-kind vintage gem, probably originally only $3 at a thrift store, but her Photoshop skills had me convinced.
When they finally arrived, they had this awful mildewy smell—like she snagged them from a free clothing bin. They didn’t match the pictures at all, and the sizing was off too. To top it off, it took six months to even get a response from her. I tried reaching out, and Etsy did too, but she ghosted us both. I ended up paying way too much for a terrible product. Need Better Receipts!I’ve been shopping on ETSY for several years and never had any major issues. Well I ordered a shirt for someone for Christmas and what I received is not quite what I ordered. It’s gray not black and the wrong size. I’ve been looking for 2+ hours trying to find a receipt that shows what I actually ordered. I’m not sure if I messed up the order or they messed up and shipped wrong item. I can see I purchased it but has no details on what size or color I ordered. If you touch the actual item it just takes you back to their page to buy another one. I scrolled through the help page and goggled it-apparently the little email saying you place an order with this shop that has view order link is all you get(clicking the link takes you to the generic receipt showing the product but not the specifications you ordered) I had this problem before when I ordered a set of acrylic nails. They were beautiful and the size I ordered was perfect so I wanted to place a new order. Never could find the details showing what size I ordered so I had to get a new sizing kit and start all over. Recent formatting is super annoyingThe app overall is very functional and good for shopping, but the amount of forced advertising sometimes makes me regret having it. I turned off all notifications because I couldn’t specify that it should notify me about shipping and DMs and not advertisements for item recommendations. The entire front page of the app consists of recommendations based on your history, which is fine, but now my updates tab (which is normally for sales, coupons, restocks, etc) gets cluttered constantly with MORE recommendations, and I can’t turn that off. And the search function is a joke compared to what it used to be, with only about 25% of the listing results actually being even vaguely related to my search words, and the rest being—you guessed it—recommendations based on what it thinks I might want instead of having anything to do with what I’m actually looking for. The constant hounding about leaving reviews for items is super annoying also, although I’m more sympathetic to that since shops do need reviews for their business. Still, annoying. Let me opt out of SOME of those reminders, at least.
Etsy is a business, I get it, but when you prioritize shoving recommendations down my throat to the point that it hinders app functionality, it’s awful. Shipping feeI am going on my second year as an Etsy member and continue to enjoy ordering from some of the shops. However, the first year of ordering from my favorite shops (which is a lot), I enjoyed Free Shipping. I also enjoy seeing how much shipping costs I saved by buying from all the shops that offered Free Shipping. Free Shipping was the Main Reason I joined Etsy, (cause the shipping cost was outrageous with all the shops I looked at prior to joining). In November, 2025 I renewed my subscription with Etsy, and as soon as my membership was renewed “ALL OF THE SHOPS” I WAS ORDERING FROM STARTED CHARGING SHIPPING FEES (Outrageous amounts). I just don’t Understand, so I stopped supporting them. In addition, I had gotten close to several sellers”. If you want, you can go into my account and see all of the sellers that I ordered from and now stopped due to them started charging shipping fees. I am still ordering from Ms. Laura (Perfect Batch), as I was her very first customer to order back in March 2025. I am addicted to her Coconut Cocadas and she works with me with the shipping costs. She is absolutely amazing, I can eat 2 dozen of her Coconut Cocadas in 2 days. They are delicious, scrumptious, as described, wonderful and addictive. Used to Love Etsy the BestReally used to love Etsy. And still use it frequently because it’s the easiest way find and purchase crafts/homemade/digital designs from my favorite designers/artists. I don’t love that you can’t download from the app. I don’t love how hard it is to find a pattern you’ve purchased years ago because you have to search through all your previous purchases page by page. And I really don’t love that it doesn’t automatically tell you if you’ve purchased something previously. Because I’m forgetful. And after many years it is a lot to keep track of. I also work with children and purchase a lot from a site called TeachersPayTeachers. Pretty sure Etsy has been around much longer than TPT but for years they’ve been awesome about when you click on something you’ve already purchased - it shows you that you’ve previously purchased it and gives a button to download it right there - so you’re not purchasing duplicates unnecessarily. And you can search your purchases by designer or title or key word. I can’t understand if they can do that so well, why Etsy still can’t. Also have lately had a lot of favorite sellers leaving Etsy or opening additional stores elsewhere because of costs, glitches, etc. Don’t love that either. Ok app with some major annoyancesThis app is fine for shopping and favoriting. I've deducted two stars and deleted the app because:
1) The red numbered dot that is supposed to indicate when you have a new notification thing is always there. So if it says you have 4 items to review, the dot doesn't go away until you review those items. It's the same on the website and it is annoying. Also if it says you have updates from sellers, that dot doesn't going away even after you open and read them. This wouldn't be a big deal except that it essentially makes the dot meaningless. It's supposed to indicate when you have something new to look at, but if it's always there, it's not doing its job. This is either a bug (which I've reported twice and both times they said they are aware), or they're doing it on purpose to get people to keep going in there.
2) It is aggro about getting people to allow notifications. Every time I sent a message, it asked me to allow notifications. This is user hostile. I shouldn't have to constantly re-affirm that no I don't want notifications.
I'm picky about the apps I keep on my phone and even more picky about which apps are allowed to push notify me. Using an app is supposed to be a better experience over the website, but that's not the case here. I just use the website instead..BlueberryhimeVersion: 6.70
Unbelievable Customer Service & TalentOriginally I had purchased, in error, an invitation that would not suit the theme that I was going for, but I also duplicated this purchase. I reached out to the seller let them know the circumstance and not only did they refund both of these purchases, but we were able to collaborate and she designed and created a masterpiece that I am truly in LOVE WITH 🩷 They went out and above for me and for that I am so grateful! But also their dedication to their clients, the timeframe that it took for them to create this masterpiece was less than a couple of hours! Literally, they came up with something for me, just for me, that I am just so excited to share with all of my guests that will be coming and it’s one of a kind!
This type of customer service and dedication to your clients, is very few and far between this day and time, and for that I honestly cannot tell you how much I truly truly do appreciate everything that you’ve done! 🩷 I will be back with more things for you to create for me to include for my business. Great, but have some ideasThis app does work well with screen readers. I am completely blind, and it is nice to have an app that is screen reader accessible like this. Shopping is also pretty easy, and so is searching for things I might want or am looking for in particular for someone else or myself, or even just browsing. You can also message creators if you have a question, so that that is nice. The only thing I wish they had was listing what specifically shirts and other clothing are in terms of sizes. More specifically, whether they are men’s, women’s, or unisex specifically in the title. It would make it easier for someone like me whenever I’m trying to look for something that will actually fit me, and not fit me weird because I didn’t know it was something else. You can search for this specifically, but it is still unclear whether their clothing is specifically women’s or unisex in some cases. I know this is something with the creators and how they list their products, so it’s not really something with the app itself. Maybe it could add a filter to look for a specific gender in terms of clothing to make it easier. Overall, I’m really liking the app so far..2021toriVersion: 7.63
Great for gifts but website still needs improvementBeen purchasing through Etsy for many years and was surprised recently when my entire buyers account was deleted. Someone decided to change my account to a sellers account-extremely bizarre as I have never sold on Etsy ever. My entire buyer’s history along with all my favorites was deleted. It took months of persistent emails demanding help from yet another customer service person who had no idea what they were doing. Finally my buyers account was restored but without my purchase history or favorites. Clearly customer service needs improvement. The way the site works is also very slow and outdated. Changes that have been made only slow it down further. Investment in new servers might be a good idea! However- I decided to stay here because there are still some artisans who sell only here. And I do purchase. However the other issue is that many of the single artist sellers have left. Most of the sellers are Chinese companies who sell for Pennie’s on the dollar on Taobao except on Etsy they often raise their prices. I think it is sad that true artists have been pushed out and these high volume companies have taken over in many cases.

50/50 on whether updates improve the app or worsen itI’ve used the app and the website for a long time and finally left a review a few weeks ago because I was sick of the bugs on the app and could find no other way to report it to the developers. Two of the biggest issues involved favorites and collections: you would have to tap on an item’s page to like it and add it to a collection, but the collection page would never load. Since then, both issues were fixed! But a few updates later, the likes issue has come back. If you have multiple collections like I do, it’s a huge pain to tap on an item before you can even like it just so it can go in the right collection. And even then, it doesn’t load all of the collections in the options. Honestly, the worst part about the app are the constant “improvements” with each update. Why fix what isn’t broken and functions just fine? Lots of apps update on the backend while keeping their user interface the same so that regular users don’t have to re-learn the app every month. I’m hoping with the next update they change their minds about the likes! Maybe it’s a tactic to make you more likely purchase an item if you have to look at its page first. Received wrong itemI bought my husband a lure for his lure collection. I specifically order the large standup one that you lean against the wall but yet I received a folded one that was NOTHING like The one I ordered.I’ve been trying to fix this issue now since last Christmas and I have heard nothing from the company!! I love Etsy but .....I shop Etsy all the time so I am a buyer and a seller! There are some things I love and some things not so much ... I miss the old Etsy .... ever hear if something isn’t broken do not try and fix it? I miss treasuries and other features about Etsy that are no longer! Etsy has become more commercialized such as on tv commercials, I’ve seen it advertised online as a “work from home job” I was a lil shocked to say the least.... but when you buy on Etsy be sure that you know which SHOP you’re in! Etsy is the MALL .... WE ARE THE SHOPS IN THE MALL! 🛍The artists and artist suppliers are the back bone of the industry! However Etsy is the easiest for me since I’ve been on for so long! With more than one shop.... too much change in such a short amount of time can really throw some of us off! Love the Etsy Concept, Hate the AppMobile app has NUMEROUS frustrating issues that deter my use.
Firstly, it’s mind-blowingly slow. Every task takes so long to load or execute I often close and relaunch the app several times or just stop using it altogether. And I mean every task—searching, loading images, managing cart, managing lists, adding, removing, saving for later, etc. has serious lag (and no, it’s not my devices or connection; I’m an early adopter, immediate updater, on a 1G fiber connection routed through an Orbi WiFi 6 mesh network).
Secondly, feed scrolling (from both search and default) is SO JERKY with incessant resets, stutters, and back-scrolling that I become exasperated enough from simply trying to view search results that I just quit the app and give up.
Thirdly and related to number two, the amount of already seen, already viewed items that consume the feed and results is beyond ridiculous and obnoxiously excessive. It’s also ineffective. The more times you show me the same things I WASN’T interested in the first time, or have ALREADY interacted with, the more determined I become to get past them.
Etsy, hire or get the architecture and backend devs required to get your app functioning like it was made for the current year, and quit using the bombardment tactics consumers actually HATE..TheStephReidVersion: 7.31
Love Etsy’s uniqueness… EXCEPT their adult content suggestionsI’ve always loved Etsy. Etsy has the most unique and customized items you can’t find anywhere else and what a great way to support small businesses from the comfort of your device! The sellers are usually very responsive and personable. I’ve never had any issues with Etsy itself until recently.
Etsy’s home page is just like any other selling platform. It will post “our picks for you”suggestions based on recent searches or purchases. Recently, my mom pulled up Etsy from the browser on my laptop to show me something and apparently based on my last search and purchases of turtle figurines and turtle rear view decor, Etsy thought that it is similar to 3D Printed, 26 Different Color Options, Gag Gift, Romance Gift, Gifts For Pranks, Different Sizes Available DILDOs and other adult toys. I was appalled and completely embarrassed. Then my mind went to, what if my 12 year old son had seen this. The laptop is a shared laptop for the house both my son and I use. I’m a single mother so can’t afford to have a laptop for each of us plus it’s not practical since we each have our own smart devices. These “suggestions” now occur more often.
I don’t know what word(s) trigger such things to be suggested or how to prevent Etsy from making such suggestions. I have become a stupidly paranoid parent who hovers over my son while he does searches or clear cache/browser history which I don’t like having done automatically when me or my son are doing research.

Creative giftsI love Etsy. First off I enjoy helping out other artists and individuals more than big corporations. I have had some wonderful quality items I’ve given as gifts or kept for myself. The layout is easy to use. You can buy the item straight away or put it in the cart and buy all the items together. Some shops give discounts on multiple item orders. Etsy shows you which shops have items on sale and how many other people have that particular listing in their cart. You can favorite a shop or an item that you can easily go back to later. You’re able to put those items in a group, which is useful in the form of gifts you have in mind for one person or event like Christmas. These groups seem to be unlimited as I already have a bunch I’ve made. You have seller and buyer feedback and you can contact your seller. They show similar items to what you’re looking for on the same page. You are able to see turnaround time and the general location area of the shop, then pay through credit card or PayPal which makes it convienient..JaynelefaviVersion: 5.88
Love Etsy, but it needs some changesI shop on Etsy a lot and love supporting small businesses in the United States. That being said, my biggest complaint right now is that Etsy seems to allow foreign businesses to present themselves as US businesses and I would like something to be done about that. For example, why is a jewelry shop that is supposedly based in North Carolina actually shipping orders from Turkey?! I read reviews and I read ‘About’ the shops and time and time again, a shop that says it’s located in the US is obviously not located here. It’s aggravating.
My second complaint right now is the search function. I put in very specific criteria and I get tons of results that don’t fit it. And the items marked as ‘Ad’ are the worst because even if you sort by price (low to high, for example), the Ad items show up everywhere so it’s not actually in order by price. I also find that the same items show up in the search results grid over and over. Again, aggravating!
I feel like the Etsy search feature used to be better and if the site gets overrun by foreign businesses pretending to be in the US and selling shady merchandise, then I’m going to have to shop elsewhere. Just my 2 cents!.ACE2982Version: 6.27.2
This goes the entire site as a whole, not just the app.I love that genuinely innovative things people make and sell. Some of my favorite pieces of jewelry come from Etsy shops. My personal interactions with customer service have been great and I love the variety. However, I’m a consumer frustrated with a few things. And I can never truly only imagine this frustration asa seller. For one, I understand inflation, but taking away more money from the sellers but still upping tax? Two, money sellers and consumers have called out the slack of eligibility requirements to sell items on the site after the pandemic. I understand it’s to try to help more small business worldwide, but there’s a difference between similar items being sold and copycat manufacturers that very obviously steal item designs from authentic business and sell cheap poorly made items that take credit for and take over real handmade or vintage items. Three, there’s a reason why so many businesses so many small owners on your site are going on strike. None of the demands suggested for the Etsy Strike subreddit and overall union have not been considered at all evidently. Not What it Used to beI’ve been using Etsy for close to a decade and it’s noticeable that it is no longer a place just for artisans. Half the products I have suggested to me are from overseas or corporate resellers. This used to be a place where everything available was handmade, grown, and created by individuals who were making a livelihood off of their beautiful craft. I’ve noticed a lot of artisans I follow elsewhere have left Etsy to do their own shops because the cuts Etsy takes vs the price they want to charge makes their products unprofitable. Additionally artisans HAVE to participate in advertising on Etsy otherwise their products go unseen.
Etsy also has a very poor notification system. I get a daily notification for shop updates that I can’t turn off. It also forces you to leave a review for each individual item you purchase or the notification will not go away. I purchased a dozen caladium bulbs from a shop which will take a couple months to grow so I’m stuck with a dozen pending reviews and notifications unless I leave reviews without actually growing them. Having the constant notification bubble on screen makes it easy to miss messages from sellers or purchase updates.
Etsy could do better for suggestions too. I find the only products that come up without me searching specifically for an item are items I already viewed, items similar to one item I’ve look at before, or advertised products. It doesn’t branch out for you to actually discover anything new you haven’t thought to buy before. I have high hopes for Etsy to continue to be my favorite collective shopping app/site, but in recent years it’s slowly turning toward corporate tendencies rather than the small businesses the app was created for..DiaMarie17Version: 6.27.2
I love supporting USA small business, not Chinese liars buying addresses in the USABeware of who you are buying from on this app. I have had multiple problems with thinking i’m supporting domestic small business because a seller advertises as being from the USA when they are not. I’ve also had issues of the sellers not giving me a refund when i NEVER receive my order. I’m still waiting to open an etsy case review, they say I can after 48 hours after submitting help request, it has been past 48 hours and still waiting. The seller i’m having problems with is from China, bought a USA shipping address through FAST TRACK EXPRESS INC, and claims the post office is overwhelmed with packages (true) but in this case, the post office does not even have my order. I’ve checked USPS for DAYS, and they are awaiting the item from FAST TRACK EXPRESS INC, which ships internationally from China. Now why would a USA seller need a 3rd party company to deliver a package to the post office when literally every town in the USA has a post office? I love Etsy but customer support wants you to do thier job contacting sellers.I love Etsy. I truly do! But….. recently for my birthday late June, I ordered a package for my birthday. So Easy to Etsy!Etsy has become a new type of online shopping- calmer vibes, easy Apple Pay. I found a beautiful water color art piece for my daughter, I was only doing an image search to use for a photo on her music school page, and it was so inexpensive and easy to click with Apple pay, everything was filled in automatically and my order will be shipping! The private sellers have all been kind, fairly priced, and their customer service impeccable when we had a minor underwhelming experience with an order but that seller gave a full refund and even allowed us to keep the mask. It needed just a little more work on the back felt staying stuck on and the elastic was also having an issue hanging on, but communication to handle that was prompt and easy. Don’t let me daughter know, but I’m a huge fan of Etsy! I could shop all day 🤭🤑🛍️ It’s easy to Etsy! I love making catch phrases, to the point. Buyer bewareI previously ordered so many things from Etsy. I fully support shopping small businesses. I got so many things from my wedding from this site and make sure to take pics and post reviews to help boost the small business. I will however never use Etsy again following an order for a shirt for my daughter. I ordered what was shown as a teal shirt for her. When it came it was pea green. A horrible color. When I reached out to the seller advising this wasn’t even a color they advertised they told me I could pay return shipping, pick another color, then pay shipping back to me. They tried to gaslight me by saying it was the lighting making it seem teal and that the pea green was the real color. I was stunned to think I would have to pay shipping both ways for their mistake. I finally broke down and sent the shirt back so my daughter could have it and they said it was past the 90 days so I would have to talk to Etsy. I tried to reach out to Etsy who wouldn’t flag them for false advertising and did absolutely nothing but tell me to keep trying to talk to them. The seller wouldn’t respond when I asked them to at least send me the shirt back if they wouldn’t refund or exchange it so I wasn’t empty handed after paying for the shirt and return shipping. Etsy also couldn’t find the order because the seller somehow had a third party order go through so I couldn’t even leave a review or see that it was placed or shipped. Liking and Collections more difficultHi, I absolutely love Etsy and all the art and cool stuff I can get on it- but in the past year and more recently (at least on iOS) I’ve noticed changes when you’re adding stuff to your collections. 1) It doesn’t show the collection full list (you used to see more, now I feel like I’m seeing less than half of what I saw before) which is very annoying because you have to go into your favorites and manually find your old collection and add it there which takes unnecessary time to do, and 2) you used to be able to tap the heart on an item to favorite it and tap it again to put said item in a category/categories or remove it from your favorites/categories- now you have to exit out of the item and click and hold it to add it to your collection which is very frustrating and unnecessary change- especially since it doesn’t always work, that or you go into your favorites to change this. The New Updates are Terrible, Dropshipping Runs RampantGenuine etsy sellers are great. Quality items, fast shipping, great customer service, you can tell that they care. Dropshippers and resellers, however, are becoming more and more abundant, and I find myself constantly having to spend time assessing a shop to ensure that it is legitimate. Even some star sellers are obviously drop shippers. I’m sick of having to question whether something is handmade or not when now, seemingly half the products are straight from aliexpress. On top of that, the app updates about once a week at this point. The buttons are constantly moving around and it’s tiring learning the new layout only for it to change again. Not only that, but now I have to click onto a total of *three* pages before I can see my favorites list. Why do “discounts” and “gift mode” receive their own button on the main menu bar while favorites are hidden behind layers of clicking? Profit for Etsy, obviously (and not profit for the sellers, of course, who are riddled with ever increasing fees). The insane amounts of notifications as well? Don’t even get me started. Etsy clearly thinks I need to know every time every single item I favorited a year ago restocks, or goes on sale, or simply exists. Begging for the option to turn off ‘chat’ style searchI have been buying off of Etsy for over a decade and have never felt the need to speak up about any changes made to the shopping experience, until now. The recent update to this bizarre “chat-style” search engine has made searching less efficient in that 1. I can’t find what I’m looking for as easily as I had in the past with the previous, standard search bar as this new version now brings up categories in the same realm, but not what I asked for (My descriptions are precise considering I’ve been an Etsy shopper for long enough to know what terms to include, so being vague isn’t the issue) and 2. I purchased a downloadable PDF and when I opened the purchase confirmation email link to download the PDF -on a web browser, on my laptop- it would not allow me to log in to my account, independently or through the link. I would sign with Apple (bc that’s how I created the acct) it would start to load and then it reloaded the login screen. It did the same on my mobile browser. I attempted to log in manually and used the same email and password to log in as my apple ID and it acted like it created a 2nd account. It allowed me to log in but I did not have a purchase history. However, when I attempt to delete the “2nd acct” and re attempt to login and download the PDF it showed I did not have access to my PDF bc my account had a request for deletion. So I canceled the request to delete the account, re attempted to log in and once again there was no purchase history. I have screenshots/recording/pictures. This is insane to me, I was literally just trying to read. And since I can’t reach customer service I’m leaving this here. I have purchased this twice and still have no access to download. More and more resembling SheinI’ve been shopping on Etsy a long time. One might argue they can’t protect against fake accounts fudging reviews, or protect against suggesting those accounts and items in searches, or allowing people to filter by amount of ratings, or making the “shop location” have to verify somehow so that people don’t purposely say they’re “local” and then it’s inevitably shipped from China, or making it easier to read reviews based on verified purchase. But of course, they can do all that, and don’t.
Sifting through obviously Chinese dropship accounts with 50 reviews that all use the same misspelled words, and the next suggestion in a search being a super legitimate account with thousands of reviews - those are right next to each other, and Etsy makes no attempt to differentiate. They can - a million other websites do it - but they don’t.
In terms of the app itself, it’s a hit or miss, it does seem like every update makes a feature slightly worse or less convenient. Not being able to only see reviews with photos (one of the only ways we can verify a purchase, as Etsy provides no method of determining a fake review from a real one) without having to scroll endlessly OR go product-by-product, as opposed to photos for the whole shop. Right now, they’ve readjusted the display of results from a shop’s categories so “free shipping” is almost the size of the photos, leaving only a little sliver of visible product left. If there was any actual way to get in touch with Etsy, I’d leave this as app feedback, but coincidentally they provide no meaningful method of communication. An app so broken it broke the website!I hated this app, it’s slow, it’s buggy, it crashes, it’s worthless. That was fine, I deleted it and continued to use the browser version of the site, which I prefer anyway because it allows me to have multiple tabs open to compare items, it’s a major advantage of online shopping and I’ll never understand why retailers are so determined to undermine that advantage by forcing users to go through their terrible apps. Only now when you try to do certain things, like go to shops to see what else a vendor is selling, it brings up a broken ad for this terrible, broken app, and there’s no way to close or circumvent that ad. There’s a button that SAYS ‘continue to mobile site’ but it doesn’t work, nothing happens, I can see the stuff I want to look at scrolling past in the background at the top and bottom of the screen but there’s no way to make the ‘download the app’ screen go away. Clicking on the ‘download the app’ option doesn’t make it go away either, it just brings me here, so I can review this pointless, defective app that’s so spectacularly broken it makes it impossible to use Etsy at all on mobile. I tried through safari and chrome, I even downloaded this pointless, broken app again, but I’m not interested. Guess I’m not shopping on Etsy anymore? Overpriced Stuff & Over-informed Shop OwnersThere is a lot of high-quality products sold off of this app and most of them are overpriced. Something I don’t like about this app is that shop owners are alerted to when we click the heart and we like something so we can save it for later. We’re sent messages by Etsy that the seller is offering us a discount on that liked item. But that’s my business if I click heart on something to save it for later because I like it, that doesn’t mean I want to buy it right away. It shouldn’t be shared information that should be private, and I consider my privacy violated by Etsy because of this. Also, half of my orders of fragile merch are not being put in boxes with bubble wrap, but in plastic real thin bags like what you see on the book that you order and stuff is arriving damaged. It’s negligible to do this to customers. Somebody sent something all the way from Great Britain to me in the States; 4000 miles with a very thin plastic package bag on it and one piece of tissue around it. I’m not ordering anything breakable from Etsy anymore. I do not recommend that you buy anything fragile from Etsy because there are going to be times you will have your orders delivered damaged. Absolutely Terrible Customer ServiceAfter encountering a fraudulent shop on Etsy I filed a complaint. I will not even go into the trouble I’ve had with the shop itself. However, Etsy has done nothing to follow up on my complaint. Further, when the shop shut down Etsy did not even notify me or inform me in any way. I have pending complaints through Etsy and PayPal. I will definitely not be getting any money back despite returning the fraudulent items. Now Etsy customer service will not claim responsibility for their lack of service after the complaint was filed. I simply got one email saying that they receive the complaint but even after reaching out I got nothing in return. For months. There is not a phone number to call so it’s all email based, which makes it impossible. I have finally gotten a response recently but they are trying to claim that they are not responsible. Also, each time I get a response it’s from a different person claiming the representative I spoke with previously is ‘out of the office’. Hard to believe when there is 40 minutes in between responses. Let me be clear: I’m not looking for a refund through them. I simply want an explanation about why it was handled SO poorly and why I was not informed the second the shop closed. I have used his site a lot in the past. Particularly for my wedding. I love Etsy and used to love the app but now, not so much.I shop on Etsy far more than I probably should. Used the app routinely but something has happened in one of their recent updates that won’t allow me to log in. I’ve gone through all the suggested steps to rectify the problem and when nothing worked on my end, I attempted to contact their tech support. I hope you never have to experience their tech support. It’s awful. Clearly outsourced to some off shore company that doesn’t even bother to read the explanation of what’s happening. 7 emails from them to me repeating the same script about “providing me the best service” or whatever the actual line is and no progress in resolving my issue. I explained in my first email that I use an iPhone with the most recent versions of the iOS and their app, have reset password, attempted accessing the site through their browser on my phone.m, what the exact error message is that I get etc… and still they only offer those same steps. It was really difficult to even get to a tech support option on the app. Had to go to website and search. My issue is still not resolved. No more app usage I guess. This has got to be the most annoying feature ever. I purchase my planner stickers from an Etsy vendor and the nature of the product easily leaves me with 5+ notifications for reviews every single time I make a purchase. Once I’ve reviewed one, I’ve reviewed them all—they’re stickers!!! I shouldn’t have to do a review per item if they’re the same item in a different color/pose/character etc.! I should be able to decline leaving a review. There’s currently no way to get rid of the notification other than submitting a review which is tedious to boot! Too many clicks! It appears to be one, but it’s actually 7 clicks minimum for ONE review. At the very least you could streamline it! And adding the picture and the feedback need not be separate! I hope my vendor moves away from Etsy for this reason alone. At this rate, Etsy is going to force customers to put pressure on the vendors (by leaving poor ratings) just to make them get rid of it. A 4/5 rating of strong-armed reviews is different than a 4/5 rating of free-will reviews. Ratings mean less when they’re forced! Stop review harassmentI appreciate the Etsy app very much. It is functional and streamlined so that I can order and pay without having to open up the full website. I appreciate that there are multiple options of ways to pay so that I do or do not need to share information that I do not wish to with a third-party.
What I do not appreciate is the force recommendations. What I mean by this is that on the app as well as the website I am harassed constantly by and see the website and the app itself to review every single item that I have purchased. I do not wish to do that. They are times where I would just like to purchase a wedding gift or whatever and go about my business. I would like there to be an opt out opportunity to not be continuously harass not only on the website. But also in the app that if I do not wish to recommend something and I’ll review it, I do not have to. I was harassed by the seller wants for leaving a review that they did not believe was necessary so therefore I will, and do not leave reviews. I make purchases I do not leave reviews and if this continues, I will no longer use Etsy as a platform to purchase from small businesses. Update is a hot messApparently, I was signed out because I tried to open the app but it needed updating. But the app didn't warn me it needed to be updated. What proceeded to occur was multiple attempts to update my password, then realizing I needed to update the app, then turn off my VPN, then go back to the app, only to stop being able to log on NOR update my password. I spent more time trying to log into an app I'd been logged into previously for over a year than it took to find the item I was looking for on a competitor website. Hmm. But wait... There's no good way to get to customer service. Leave an email...lolz...but wait... It takes forever to figure out how to leave a message because the app demands you log on before you can leave an email. OMG. Do they realize how absurd this all is? AND, there's no email listed.
It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Or as Seinfeld said, they put a hair on my tongue. Not having good access to customer service for something as simple as getting kicked out of your account basically makes me feel like this whole thing is shady. Literally every other place I purchase from has a quick and direct way to contact a CSR to address passwords, account issues, etc. So is this whole thing like a shady fly-by-night operation of what?
There's so much competition out there, even for organizations that feature small designers, creators, etc., that you'd think something as simple as fixing a login wouldn't take days to fix. Sad but want to move onThis last Holiday season I decided to do most of my Christmas shopping online including on Etsy. There was one store in particular that I made a $50+ purchase and I was very excited to give to a friend as her Christmas present(s). However my package never arrived even though tracking said "delivered". I contacted the seller and told them what had happened to which they said that out of pity they would send another one at my expense (I thought it was a weird choice of words since they contradicted). I decided to do it and again thinking I wouldn't have bad luck twice but again the tracking said "delivered" when it was not. I was very sad/stressed/confused at this point because I couldn't get my friend the presents I originally intended, I was stressed about needing to get gifts in late December, and I was confused on how I would get my money back. Unfortunately Etsy doesn't have a money back guarantee and the seller had purchased no insurance (even though she said she would the 2nd time she sent). I've been using Etsy for years but I've only now learned that there is no accountability with Etsy or the shops. I'm now without the product or my money. I've always loved the idea behind Etsy, and I've always loved to support the individual artist but I don't think I can trust using Etsy in the future if there is no accountability. This shop had over a thousand glowing reviews and no reason to think that they wouldn't be able to deliver but here I am as living proof. Etsy is not set up ideally for supply shoppingI enjoy buying my jewelry making supplies of Etsy. I have purchased magnificent items and it’s really helped my work evolve. Unfortunately the buying and repeat buying process is constantly difficult and needlessly time consuming. I’m constantly frustrated with the platform as it makes it very difficult to search previous purchases in order to buy an item again. The list of purchases should have a search bar so I don’t have to endlessly scroll through (and wait to load) my purchases. Also: Limiting my cart to only 100 items is also very frustrating. This make sense for someone purchasing handmade goods. I get that limiting cart items encourages customers to actually complete a purchase but for someone who is constantly buying multiple tiny items it’s really frustrating. You’ve designed this platform without someone such as myself in mind. It’s very discouraging and makes me want to shop elsewhere. Do better You’re missing a great opportunity to cater more to makers and their supply needs.
Update 8/22. I believe I wrote this review over a year ago, and I still feel very much the same way. Shopping for supplies on Etsy should be easier. Just like eBayNo way for a buyer to block a seller. The buyers are the ONLY PEOPLE who keep you all employed and the lack of control I have is troubling. I should be able to block a seller and never see or hear from them or their shop unless I chose to unblock them. Sketchy business practices and stealing moneyAs a seller I don't feel I can trust this company with my shop. Etsy is literally stealing money from me. I've made 6 sales in the past week or so, and only ever got paid for 1 of them. 1 is being held on a "reserve" (which is basically Etsy's excuse to not pay you for 45 days for no reason). And the other 4... they just disappeared. They'll sit in my account for a little bit but ultimately were not deposited to my bank and the funds no longer show up in my payment profile which claims I'm owed $0. How can the money I got from sales suddenly just vanish? Every time I'm paid by Etsy I know some money is mysteriously missing... yet they make the set up super confusing to hope you don't notice. Support ignores me and is useless anyway. How canmy "available to deposit" just suddenly be zero when nothing has been deposited to my bank and I've had sales? I got paid half of what I made the last deposit, and then the other half just disappeared. They'll claim I can't be paid because I "owe fees", yet my profits cover 10x the fees I have. It just doesn't add up at all. No matter what way you look at it, it doesn't make sense, there's no reason or anything my money is just suddenly gone. And even what I am paid I have to wait so long for that I wonder if I can even afford to ship anything out. I can't run a business like this. I think there is something wrong with the new formatI am using Etsy on my tablet. When I look at any listing on the app, it appears that everything (reviews, description, info, price, add to cart, etc) has been moved to the right side of the screen. Everything is placed really high up & it looks cramped and strange. Text doesn’t fit in text boxes, the stars on review ratings are all different sizes and the rating shown is way different than what the person actually reviewed. Theres usually only 1-3 stars shown (not one out of five, just a single star of a random size or multiple stars of assorted sizes) and some of them are so tiny you can barely see them while others overlap the others. Images and videos are covering text & usernames. I have to scroll down really far to be able to see the actual price of the listing & buy it, the only thing on the left side of the screen is the large product image - normally, the description text & reviews would be located below it, and I’d be able to easily see the price and buy the listing on the conveniently placed menu on the right. But instead everything has been smushed over into a thin, messy, weird string of differently sized images and text. Theres just a big empty space on the left under the product image. Tried reinstalling several times but its still like this. Also the app keeps changing?? Sometimes it shows my viewing history on the home page and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it shows my favorites as it usually would (one big page) but sometimes it only shows a few of the items I’ve favorited and makes me go to other pages to see all of my favorite items and shops. In Stock doesn’t mean in stock!The majority of items listed on Etsy aren’t actually ready to ship even when it says in stock. It means they might have the materials to make it but there is a long ‘processing’ time. Set your expectations low for delivery time and don’t buy anything that needs to be delivered for a holiday or gift.. Likely you will disappointed.. this isn’t just for personalized items. Sellers like to have hundreds of listings but can’t and won’t try to have them in stock and just assume you understand they still have to make another version of the item pictured. I shipped out all my orders that I received either same day or next day and also included tracking numbers. A couple days into my new Etsy selling account I am hit with a PERMANENT BAN. Keep in mind Etsy didn’t release any funds to me when I received sales which is fine as it is for buyer and seller protection, BUT I shipped out all these orders with my own money to get to these customers leaving in much debt on my credit card, which I was confident I will pay back once all orders have been shipped out and Etsy releases my funds. Now my funds are being held and I have NO ACCESS TO MY ACCOUNT. Etsy has banned all access to my account and I can’t even contact customers about the situation. All I recieve are emails about customers requesting refunds because I am ignoring them and my account is not online. I FEEL HOPELESS. I have contacted Etsy a SHAME of a support center. NO ONE TO CALL. I message them and am left on read. This is a shame of a company that has illegally stolen my hard worked for funds without a reason. The worst app everThis app seriously ruined my life. Etsy doesn’t give a crap about sellers as long as they are making money by pulling in enough buyers. Every time a case is opened against you they ALWAYS choose the side of the buyer and take money from your account without permission. All 3 cases I had against me were not my fault. The first one was a customer being unhappy with a product 3 months after receiving it when my return policy clearly states send me a message within 1 week and mail back within 2 weeks. I refused to accept the item after 3 months and they opened a case and I didn’t give them a refund and Etsy took the money straight out of my account. The second time was a customer demanding a refund saying they never received their item when their tracking number clearly stated that it had been delivered weeks ago, and Etsy once again took money from me without my permission. They also don’t take into account that items cannot be shipped on Sunday so customers get mad when their item is shipped a day late. Now they have a new policy where if you don’t offer free shipping your items will not pop up at the top of the list for customers, so you are basically forced into free shipping and lose customers by increasing your prices for no reason. Sellers ignore messages unless you buy!!!Man, I LOVE Etsy. And I mean LOVE! I really like to support artists, worldwide. I find unique and handmade items that fit my wants and personality. Buyer bewareIn dealing with various sellers on this app in a different province for mine, my bank accounts were hacked into money, was deposited and withdrawn.
