Fishbrain - Fishing App Positive Reviews
I love this app but...Unfortunately their catch data is near worthless given the fact you’re forced to pick from a few predetermined fishing locations. How these locations are picked, I have no idea, some spots make sense, some don’t. Others appear to be user submitted (spelling and capitalization errors) but there’s no where in the app to do so. When you log a catch it forces you to select one of a few nearby fishing “spots” which often are nowhere near you, you can leave it blank but by default it’ll just pick the closest one for you. This may not seem like a huge issue but it ends up completely screwing any catch data or fish forecasts. I mean the top fish for almost every salt water spot around here is large mouth bass, and you’ve got fish caught 5-10 miles away from where they’re marked. If fish brain just added the ability to create a new fishing “spot” this issue could be almost completely avoided. You can just let the community moderate it too. Believe me no one like incorrect data.
Update: !!!!Awesome feedback.Joseph.DancerVersion: 8.47.0
Been using for a year and…..This app is very helpful, map is great, and weather information is spot on. BUT…..ever since the next to last update, the ability to see walleye, crappie, or any other fish not preloaded in the “BiteTime” tab under forecast has gone away, not to mention that on my lake, brown trout and rainbow trout are mistakenly shown. There aren’t any of these species in our lake and when I asked support why/how I could remove them and see other species they said the algorithm is the reason they’re there and nothing can be done. BiteTime on my lake: Largemouth Bass Smallmouth Bass Spotted Bass Rock Bass Channel Catfish Bluegill - they always bite. irrelevant Green Sunfish - irrelevant Brown Trout - not in lake Rainbow Trout - not in lake Missing: Hybrid Bass - another highly sought after fish. No information. Striper - extremely sought after and fished for on a daily basis. Nothing in BiteTime. Crappie (Black/White) - same as above. Nothing on app. Ever since the previous update I feel I’m not getting the value I was but still paying the same price. Customer service was dismissive and not helpful. Not happy. I still use this app for the weather and Bass information but actively searching for another app until FishBrain decides to fix their “algorithm.” Also, other apps have reached out to local fisherman who use their app and encouraged participation and post accuracy by offering the app free or at a reduced price. I would suggest FishBrain follow this example. App used to be better though it is still useable..GingerGooVersion: 9.10.0
Great App With one ProblemThis app has so far been fantastic, with only one glaring problem. It’s not the apps fault for this but it doesn’t have every body of water named as a location to submit a fish caught. What is a problem is that the app does not allow you to create a new body of water. I understand the developers being hesitant to add this feature due to the possibility of it being exploited and used to create inappropriate lake names or misleading people, so maybe they could have a rank system, where depending on how much you contribute to the app you rank up from say, Shad of Bluegill all the way to Northern Pile or Muskie, and then from Muskie travel on to saltwater fish, or have multiple levels within a rank, Bluegill 1,2,3 etc. The idea is once you hit a certain rank (not too high but not too low) you gain the ability to add custom lakes. The lakes have to be properly marked and punctuated and the community could help decide to keep it or not through an upvote or downvote system. The lake would get added in temporarily for a month and during that month anglers would upvote or downvote the lake and at the end of the month if there were more upvotes than downvotes, the lake stays. If there were more downvotes, the lake gets removed. Finally, there would have to be a lake report system where if a lake that didn’t fit somehow got past the community upvote downvote system is could get reported and the name gets changed or the lake gets removed permanently. That’s my idea on how to solve this issue. On the off chance that the devs are reading this I just want to say: Keep up the great work on the app and I hope you implement something like this soon!.Ryan CassadyVersion: 8.58.0
App is great up until I downloaded it on my new phoneBefore I got the new phone, I would go everywhere using the app and seeing what folks caught in a specific location. I could see all the catches without having to pay for anything. Now that it’s on my new phone I tried to see what type of fish people were catching in this one spot when I got hit with the, “PAY TO PLAY” message. Everything was great about the app before the update (im assuming is what happened) I would have honestly spent the extra money to get the extra perks it came with but now I am not so sure. How are you going to charge us to view the catches in whatever location we view. Being able to see the top 5 is not enough. Some of us like to do real research on a specific spot and waste our time going out there for nothing. The app was so great I would even recommend it to every angler and non angler I’ve met so far but now it’s all ruined. My 5 star review would probably be a 3.5 now. I understand charging folks for the pro package such as water depth. What bait to use. Where to fish. And the free shipping. But to charge for something you guys were not charging for before is outrageous. Y’all need to fix that. It is not only lame but it makes young angler less enthusiastic about fishing because not every parent has the money to pay for an app. I have met plenty of little guys that use your app and love it but I’m sure now that things have changed they would feel the same way as me.
How are you going to charge for the basic tools and start getting money from the ads that pop up 😂 just cause the app is growing doesn’t mean you should turn your back on folks cause they don’t or can’t pay the monthly fee 🤦🏽♂️ might as well make people pay for the app.Troutkaster9000Version: 8.143.0
Fishbrain gave me my PBI love this app so much! But there are many pros and cons about it. I’ve been fishing my whole life mostly from boat and got fish brain 3 months ago! It was fun to just post what I was catching but I wanted to get better quality fish so I started looking into more spots around me. Found a couple honey holes and landed my PB largemouth last week only because I bought into the pro version to dial into where the big ones where located. I owe this app every bit of that catch since it was waters I never knew were in my back yard!! They even call me the mayor of the town now, due to the catches I’ve found nearby!!
Now the cons are very minute but just enough to make me aggravated. For one if you edit a post or don’t tag a location to keep a catch private, it’s like it doesn’t even hit the feed for others to see. Example: I’ll post a catch edit in another picture and no one will have liked or commented. Do the same photos without editing them or tagging a location and get several hundred likes. Sound like an algorithm issue.
Next is the ability to choose a certain pond that not in their database. It forces one body of water that’s nearby and is always misleading when trying to find new waters when the exact spot isn’t shown. I’ve had this happen on both ends, trying to tag fish and looking for more spots but the fisherman was never technically there, if you get what I’m saying.
All in all FB is a great great tool. I can’t thank you guys enough for this platform!!.Captken5807Version: 8.59.0
Great fishing appThis is a really nice fishing app. You can see what other people are catching. You can also see where they caught it and what they used to catch it. You will get informed on the latest information and when to fish. If your new to fishing and hope to become an angler I definitely recommend this app. I have learned so much from this app. I personally think this would be the best fishing app if you’re looking for good fishing info. You can pay for a pro version. I don’t have it but it provides you with the best fishing info you can get from what I have heard. I have fished in certain areas because of this app. For the first time a posted a catch. I found a small bridge less than a mile away and I got a catch almost immediately. You can even shop for fishing gear on this app. They sell all kinds of baits, reels, rods, and lures. If you find a nice fishing spot it will provide you with what other people have caught there and how to get to the point you want to get to.
Great app!! Definitely recommend it!!👍👍.Hatrick19Version: 8.9.0
Good appThis is the best fishing app I've ever used and I will be showing this to my grandkids and kids they love fishing and I love them they are the cutest little things one is named jimmy and the other is named Emma they are the best grandkids ever ok back to the appI’ve been using this fishing app for several months, and it has completely changed the way I plan my fishing trips. The app is very easy to navigate, and all of the information is organized in a way that makes it simple to find exactly what I need before heading out on the water.
One of my favorite features is the fishing forecast and weather information. Being able to check conditions, water temperatures, and the best times to fish has helped me make better decisions and spend more time catching fish instead of guessing where or when to go.
I also really enjoy the catch logging feature. It’s great to keep track of the fish I’ve caught, along with photos, locations, and notes from each trip. Looking back at past catches has helped me learn patterns and improve my success over time.
Overall, this app is an excellent tool for anglers of all skill levels. It is reliable, easy to use, and packed with useful features that genuinely improve the fishing experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys fishing and wants a better way to plan trips and track their catches. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🎣.Dave the grampaVersion: 9.54.0
Good app with minor issuesI like the app. It’s helpful and everything. But let me get straight to the point, don’t like typing. The new recent update? No! Don’t like the way everything is set up. The older version looks better. Your main page is like in categories instead of just a straight up feed. Always gotta hit the “see more” option. It’s not cool. And another thing is the statistics. Needs more to it. More filters and stuff like that. Only shows a few fish names then says other and there’s no way to change what it’s saying. Just auto changes whenever you catch those specific species. But you won’t know what the “other” is talking about. And last thing is when you post a fish, it needs to be asking how many did you catch and then adds that to the stats. I could catch 3 cats in one post but only counts as 1 catch. And the app is a little expensive just to get more info that could not be so accurate. But idk. Haven’t tested that out..KhalifakidVersion: 8.79.2
Surprisingly Amazing App!This app is amazing! I do not know how I went fishing without it. I did not get Fishbrain pro yet, but Fishbrain is still very helpful without it! The only recommendation I have is to tell what time and what month the fish come out! Fishbrain might have this feature and I still don’t know yet! There is a bunch of good features and anglers that are happy to share their catch. I am planning a deep sea fishing trip and I am planning to log all my fish on Fishbrain! I would just like to share one more thing. I clicked on a river to see what fish live in there, and it said Mahi Mahi live in there. What? I thought Mahi Mahi (Dorado or Dolphinfish) live in saltwater. But anyways, great app! I have only logged three fish so far and many people already liked them! I love how friendly this community is! I hope this community doesn’t grow toxic, but I don’t think it will. Anyways have a great day and happy fishing! 😊.Thor WernekVersion: 8.148.0
Excellent contour maps, great for finding new water - lacking in waypoint options and map toolsI primarily use this app to find new waters to try based on other people’s catches. Not really interested in the exact spots - it’s just nice to have some level of confirmation that a specific water holds a type or size of fish. The Navionics depth contours are the best and are a great future in this app.
But it’s not an inexpensive app, and I feel could use a few improvements to really be worth the cost over some competitors who are up and coming.
The waypoint system is lacking. It could use more waypoint options - or at least the ability to change color of waypoints, to search for waypoints, maybe name my own waypoints, and then show / hide certain types of waypoints on my map so I could categorize types of fish I’ve caught or other notes or features, and just see those on the map all at once.
Adding tools like distance measuring tool or at minimum a scale in the corner of the map to gauge distances is badly needed! I need to open another app just to see how far I have to drag my sled or paddle my kayak to get across some water.
While I use my chartplotter to navigate to waypoints on the water and save my tracks, I could see that feature being huge so people could set a series of spots they want to fish and navigate to them, or go back and actually see what they covered. Those are things some up and coming competitor apps do have as features.
So good overall / great for finding new waters to fish, would be amazing with some of those additions..N-W-FamVersion: 9.19.0
Good besides the money grabI absolutely love the app idea. Like a social media page just for fisherman. Love it. Get new fishing locations and tips/tricks from anglers in your area. However, they keep taking features away in an attempt to get us to pay monthly for the app. I look at Fishbrain as the Facebook of the fishing world, but if they keep taking features away unless I pay a monthly fee I will soon be deleting the app. We used to be able to see friends catch locations, fishing forecasts, and previous catches on bodies of water. But these are all pay to play features now. We used to be able to edit names of bodies of water (because there are a lot of miss-marked lakes/ponds on the map) but that is now also a paid feature. Like, you want ME to pay YOU to make YOUR app better? No thanks pal. I’m annoyed about the things they’ve taken away, but I get it, they don’t actually care about helping out anglers, this is just a paycheck for them, but if you take away any more features, I’ll be removing the app..MaybeThisWontBeTaken827462Version: 8.143.0
Map IssueThis app is a great resource for anglers like myself. It has a lot to offer and makes fishing a whole lot easier. However, there is a new issue that has recently surfaced that can be quite frustrating. This issue is with the map. The map interface is working and displaying as intended, however, searching for a location will place the camera at a random location in the Atlantic under Africa, no matter the fishing water. Also, if you click on a location marked in another angler’s post and then click the map where the name of the water is listed, it will send to you to the same exact spot. The Directions feature is also bugged, saying that the desired location of any fishing water is “nil or invalid.” A detailed look into this issue would be much appreciated as I find the map feature to be a valuable tool. Thank you..Elite_Phantom16Version: 8.57.1
Good but could be better💯Great app and I pay for it and use it religiously but the whole feed uploading issue needs to be fixed! Plus and I think this is the biggest thing but the free version I understand hides certain features but if I make all the information public than I think the free version needs to show it instead of also hiding it👊🏻 How can the fishing community grow if your hiding public information on the app and forcing most of the time kids who can’t pay for it to basically see nothing🤷🏼♂️ Free version should not include the cool features the paid version does but the free version should atleast show catch pins and catch information that somebody posted as public on the app like me cuz I like helping others out there catch fish with my posts ya know🤘🏻🎣.F0rmundacheezeVersion: 9.53.0
Great app but terrible users!I’ve never reviewed any apps or commented and I know that this is a long shot but ever time I open this app I get extremely aggravated! Anglers continue to keep short fish and out pictures up! This is in no way the fault of fish brain but as anglers who love fishing something needs to be done!
I think that something needs to be done to advertise the limits in areas! Although this would not stop poaching it would help make people more aware of the legal limits ( size and amount)!
The app is awesome but the people using it often do not follow the rules! Today I saw a fluke pictured with a measuring tape in the picture! The fluke wasn’t even close to being a keeper, it was at least 5 inches off! I really hope that someone in Fishbrain sees this and understands how big of a problem it is and hoping that we can attempt to fix people’s perception that keeping short fish is ok! Thank you for your time and I hope that changes will come!.Jon jon 1783Version: 6.10
Want to love, but…Does a lot of things right. Even the free version provides a lot of information from (what seems to be) a larger community than the main competitor (which is free w/ ads). Overall look/feel is also more polished. That said, if utilizing as a detailed personal fishing log, this app is severely handicapped by the inability to add your own gear that is missing from the database. There is a webform where you can submit requests for gear to be added, but in my experience, those requests do not get added, and even if they did, the process is still too tedious. The FAQ has stated for the last few years at least, that they are working on method for the user to add missing gear, but as of yet, no evident progress on that front. Landscape mode for the iPad app is also an odd omission, however one that the competition has also neglected. Potential is there for this to be the one fishing app to rule them all, but some glaring shortfalls hold it back..PharmerDomVersion: 8.134.0
Pretty good features, but buggyOverall the app is mostly well designed with many useful features. The home screen is a social feed featuring catches - fun to read thru. Additional features include tracking the location, date, weather and gear used of your catch. Also you can pull up a map of a location and see where others caught fish, gear used, etc. You can comment and message other users/fishers. I also like that the community is generally very positive and supportive.
The app unfortunately also has several significant bugs. As others have noted, the single biggest issue is their feature that identifies the location of a catch is often wildly inaccurate and limiting. It forces you to pick an inaccurate location such as a stream flowing into a main river rather than the location in the river were you actually caught the fish. This makes membership almost deceptive since you're really paying for that location info. Shame on them. Another bug is the location search results that are unsorted and put waters that are thousands of miles away near the top rather than the nearest water of the same or similar name.
Lastly their support is unresponsive. They only send robo responses. It makes you feel like now that they have my money, they no longer care.
They have a good foundation and now need to focus on working out the bugs and providing better service..SedsmanVersion: 6.5.1
Fish On ———<*(((((((((>< :-)Fishbrain is the best. I wish I had known about this Awesome App before, I would have been a member years ago. All the fantastic pictures from all ages. And the great information you get, locations, gear, bait, tackle. I look forward to being a member every day. I can’t wait to go get back on the water. I am hoping next season to get a 15-17 ft boat with an outboard motor maybe 25 Hp.
I have always wanted one. But don’t have the money for it. Looking for a used one with a trailer. May be a member knows of one for sale in the CT area. I will end with the Fisherman’s Prayer
I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast. I then most humbly pray: When in the Lords Great landing net and Peacefully Asleep that in His mercy I be judged Big enough to Keep.

The app is great but…I had fishbrain and recently I would be on fish brain go to a different app and I would go back to fishbrain and it brought me to the welcome screen and I would put my email in for the magic link so I could get back on my account and I would check my email and I would be able to get my account back and that just continued happening over and over and now I put my email in the magic link and I check my email and I don’t get a email to get back on my account. I contacted fish brain and they told me to do all these things and I’ve done them and it still won’t work so idk. And I’m putting in the right email I’m not making any errors in the spelling. Please fix this glitch or whatever FISHBRAIN!!!.Dale dingleVersion: 8.119.0
So close but needs workThis app is so close to being great but struggles in a few categories. The biggest issue is how hard it is to search for a location on the map, the search bar doesn’t function very well and sometimes shows places close to the name you search that are hundreds of miles away before showing one’s actually close to you. The map itself is also very hard to navigate when swiping around. The next biggest issue is definitely the amount of mis-logged catches, I see a ton of pictures catches at a certain spot that are obviously not actually from the location they are marked at. It’s as bad as people posting pictures of sharks they caught in the ocean marked as being caught in tiny freshwater ponds, and you can see instances of this at almost every location. If these issues can be fixed it would be a great app..Bd3542Version: 8.102.0
Good not greatI have been using this app for a long time now and it’s nice. If you wanna see what people are catching, great you can. If you wanna see where people are catching fish, great you can. The map is nice because you can easily find waters to fish. However the bathymetric maps are not the greatest. You will have big areas missing. You will have seemingly two bathymetric maps right next to each other on the same lake which make it difficult to read, but worse is that sometimes they don’t even match. Also some of the maps are outdated and need updating. So some work could be used there. The forecast and spot prediction’s are hit or miss. I think it’s something that just will be improved over time as we get more data from different catches. So overall this app is good, but not great..IputmydikinabagodoritosVersion: 8.104.0
Great app. Some premium issuesSo I got the app and thought it was great. I wanted to go fishing, so I wanted to the the exact spots where they caught the fish. To do this, I became premium, and thought I would start out with the first month free. I began trying the exclusive premium thing, but it still said I had to buy it. When I pressed, “get 1 month free the $9.99 a month” it just said I had already gotten the membership, but still didn’t give me the premium privileges. I tried shutting down the app and even my phone, but it never allowed the app to know I got premium. I got premium on 6/9/19 so I don’t know if I will get my membership tomorrow or not. Right now I’m not very angry because of the free trial, but when it starts charging and I don’t get the privileges then I’ll be mad. Otherwise, a great app. I would like to have my premium though. Please fix Fishbrain. Thank you.OwensampVersion: 6.46.1
Hard to find public placesAs a new Georgia state angler, I’ve turned to fishbrain so i could find spots to practice but all of these “locations” are mostly PRIVATE and I have no way of knowing that without having to drive and check it out in person. All of these pictures of people holding up their catches is probably someone who lives in the community surrounding the pond/lake/stream. Not accessible to a local like me. I know it’s a fishing app but it’d be nice if they also prioritized this kind of interface, showing us if the location is public or not. Making sure it’s up to date with the community, so i don’t show up with my rod in hand to a supposedly “public fishing spot”, and turn away in embarrassment because of all the “NO FISHING, PRIVATE PROPERTY” signs scattered everywhere. these people think they own everything including the water and it’s inhabitants..IgotthekeyslolVersion: 9.39.0
Such a great resource!!I remember I originally got a Fishbrain account just because I wanted to post pictures of my fish but most of my followers on other my social media accounts didn’t really care about it, but then once I got on the app I realized how many other great features this app has outside of just a cool local community of other anglers! I’ve been able to learn and grow more in my fishing skill set and have caught so much more fish since being on this!!! Not only can I scroll through it for a couple hours just for entertainment, but I also am learning which colors and baits are working on which spots, and what gear I should be using to get the best action with my lures! I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate this app and the improvements I’ve made because of it..CrobbyboyVersion: 8.15.0
Great community, App needs work.Fishbrain is a great community. I’ve met and fished with several local anglers and always learning new tricks. Really great group of guys and gals.
The folks at Fishbrain seem to be doing a good job of keeping the app updated, but always room for improvements. Some of my recommendations to make the experience better below.
- The uploader always places the photos out of the order I uploaded causing me to have to edit each time after post.
- The ability to keep your fishing spots private should be easier to do. It defaults by showing your exact location. You have to edit this with each post.
- The notification section is still awkward. When you make a comment it’s easy to lose track on who responded to what. This is because the comment section doesn’t load the image you commented on.
- The Russian girl activity has died down a bit, but still happens from time to time. I feel they should educate users to report users trying to phish for information better. I can imagine that less tech savvy users would fall for these types of online scams.
All things said, it’s still the best option for anglers that want to share their catches with the fishing community. I’ve tried the others and always came back..Lee57oneVersion: 8.47.0
Best fishing app everTo the developers who created this app thank you for once I can finally share my fish pics with other people and not just my friends, but there’s just one Insey Wincey problem I see a bunch of people on here swearing now I’ve heard it before I’m 11 now I’m gonna hear it in a lot in my life it’s just if someone could just take care of that problem that would be so nice because this app is a nice kind hearted app, but my review isn’t about that stuff because I like it if somebody gets in an argument in the comments it detects it and make sure that that one person and the other person don’t collide again that’s all I have to say about this app but I have one more thing beautiful creation!.Wejensiagamin2ndVersion: 8.137.0
NiceEnjoying the app, I’m not a social media guy but do enjoy seeing local catches. Do not regret the year membership purchase. I do have 2 questions though that are giving me fits:
1. How I log the ounces of my catch weight without doing math to see how many ounces work into a tenth of a pound? Am I missing something or is that what everyone has to do? If it is, a separate box to add ounces needs added, I don’t want to have to do that math.
2. I cannot for life of me limit my feed. In feed preferences, I have a handful of local waters selected. Nothing else, no species, no anglers, etc. But my feed is filled with catches from waters far away, even in other states on waters I’ll never fish. How do I limit my feed to only the catches in the waters I want to see and nothing else?
Thanks for a cool app!.VegawowVersion: 8.109.0

Fishbrain - Fishing App Negative Reviews
Interesting app, but lacks a fundamental requirementI like the app in general, but has been pointed out, it lacks a fundamental requirement to be useful, both for logging your own catches and finding good fishing locations. For those willing to share catch locations fairly precisely, when logging catches, especially far from land, there should be a way to input lat / long of the catch location or alternatively know the lat / long of where the movable catch location indicator actually is. The sea is a big place, but there is a way to precisely describe location. Instead the spp defaults to distant, preselected locations that may be many miles from the actual spot of the catch. In my case, in Freeport, The Bahamas, the app shows yellow fin tuna caught within 100 meters of shore in “Brown’s Cove”, which is so unlikely as to be impossible, and two catch locations are far inland away from any water at all (presumably showing the location of the person reporting the catch at the time of reporting instead of where the catch occurred). Not everyone wants to share their ‘spots’, but for those who do it should be possible with some precision. Other people seek a way to record their spot details for their personal use only. Either way, Fish Brain is seriously deficient in this respect, despite the easy availability of simple mapping technology which would permit precise location logging..T0mmy BahamaVersion: 9.20.0
Useful app, okay community, two stars.I thought this would be an app for just finding fishing spots and identifying fish. Well, it also has a social aspect. I thought since it wasn’t the biggest community, it wouldn’t have THAT MANY trolls. I was so wrong. I was browsing other people’s catches, and I noticed some random guy just commented “fake” in some other person’s post. So I just asked how. The person who accused the other guy, just said “photoshop.” I just said, “well, do you have proof?” And they just said “I saw this same photo but an African American person caught the fish instead.” I was like “okay, but next time you spot a fake, provide proof. I’m gonna look into it.” I got a notification as I browsed google. It was the same guy. They had sent me “proof,” aka a racist photoshopped image of an African American (racist as in a huge mouth, almost pitch black skin and tiny eyes). The guy had just trolled me, not to mention that they were racist. For normal trolls, I would rate an app 3 stars, after a lot of trolling. However, since this was a racist troll, I’m rating this app two stars. The post was just a normal post. Otherwise, I liked this app, but just a few suggestions-pls make it so ur able to delete ur comments. I might continue using this app, but just the features that actually help you with fishing. These days, it’s hard to find an app that doesn’t have posting involved..Scara!?!?!?!Version: 8.119.0
CAUTIONI loved this app and appreciate what it tries to do for the fishing community. However at the end of the day nothing good can come out of this app. I used f this app religiously and even paid for the subscription then i noticed after only 7-8 months of using and posting my catches my local fishing spots started to hold less and less fish. I also keep seeing new faces i’ve never seen. One day, a fishbrain user approached me and asked if i was the guy he’d been following. I sure was and after speaking with him, i finally realized why my local fishing spots are now dead. Didn’t matter the type of fish, i was helping everyone locate the “good” spots to catch fish and i’m sure i helped the good fishermen along with the bad ones. I know for a fact and by the amount of people who knew me and approached me i burned one spot. i possible helped to burn 3 other locations where fishing used to be great. I only use this app now to capitalize on the mistakes of others as i have made. My word of advice, don’t post your catches and if you really must, be smart with your pictures to not give away the location and do not tag where you caught the fish. This app will ultimately be the end of recreational fishing if it gets big enough. sorry fishbrain, just stating facts 🤷🏻♂️._Lt_Dan_Version: 8.125.0
Used to love this appI used to absolutely love this app being a 16 year old kid. I would go to south carolina and use it to help me in a location I didnt know where to fish. I cant afford a big monthly or yearly pay but the free version was nice it let u see catches near by. and see what their catching and thats all I needed. But nowadays they removed all that u have to pay 70! dollars a year just to see catches and to even have a marker on ur screen. Idc what anyone says this company is just a money grab. they would rather make money then helping a fishing community who just needs help finding spots. it used to be the best app to ever exist their wasnt a app like it because others made u pay for the catches log and to see what they caught and etc. but now they are just like the other silly little fishing apps. Im moving on and praying someday someone makes a app for fishing like fishbrain thats free for the fishing community. I just might make one just to run fish-brain out for their money grab mindset. If the developers needed money they could have went about it in a different way like ads or running sponsorships but now this company is slowly going to rot into a little company nobody cares about. I hope fishbrain can make a turn one day but until now 1 star.So SupidVersion: 9.2.0
Good but also VERY VERY bad. This app in theory is a great app for fisherman all around. It’s great for seeing what places are actually legal to fish and has a review system where people can rate whether or not a fishing hole is safe for kids/family/bank fishing ect...
But it has 2 glaring issues that I think would improve the app exponentially. They NEED moderators on here to limit the number of fake catches, illegal bagging, horrible fish handling practices and incorrect fish identification. There are indeed authorities that come onto the app and actually ticket wrongdoing sometimes but I think the app itself should do a better job at keeping that crap off the site because there are lots of younger impressionable anglers that use the app and think it’s just okay to keep fish out the water with dry hands dripping blood on the ground. Anyway, I digress... there is one other issue with this app that appears to be a total oversight:
Not only can you not ADD legitimate species of fish to be reviewed and accepted by the app admin (multispeces anglers like myself who target more than gamefish find it impossible to add species like shiners and darters) but the app also doesn’t have a way to look on the map for a CERTAIN SPECIES! You can only search the map by actual fishing spot, which is fine and dandy despite how inaccurate the locator is but if you’re like me and want to catch a certain species of fish... on an app that at least identifies SOME species wouldn’t it make since to be able to search locally for a species instead of having to sort through the entire USAs catches? I don’t know if this is a developer oversight or just straight inability but it definitely lowers the value of this app quite a bit..SpeciesMultidexVersion: 8.19.0
Sell outI used to love this app, using it to find spots is kind of pointless, however it served as a great social media network exclusively for fishing. It was always motivating to see some great catches in my area, making friends and posting catches of my own. It’s function as a social platform used to be a free feature, but the fact that you are now only shown 10 or so maybe less pictures per spot without paying nearly $100 a year is outrageous. I already wrote a review and had gotten so disappointed again that I came back to revise it. The normal response is “we need the revenue to run our servers and provide better quality features” or close to it, which is absolutely untrue as the quality of the app has diminished. In fact I would rather deal with the occasional pop up advertisement than have to pay for something that has no business being a pay to access platform as at least that is understandable. The most disappointing aspect of this apps demise is the understanding that fishing is slowly dying, less and less people are getting out to fish, kids are growing up without that one fishing trip with their dad or grandfather that sparks this lifelong passion. The survival of this sport falls entirely on the youth, and us taking our future kids and grandkids out fishing one day, and the best platform to reach us from has sold out for an easy dollar. Some advice to anyone reading this who thinks this platform can help them, it is NOT worth it. Go to your local bait shop or fly shop, spark up a conversation with someone, make some friends. One of my buddies who I fish with, I met at the bait shop, bro thought me a lot about fly fishing, something that was foreign to me as I’ve only fished on a beach my whole life. Don’t waste your money here..CobaltViperVersion: 9.23.0
Fishbrain USED to be the BEST fishing app. Now you have to pay for EVERYTHING.I started using fishbrain in 2020. There was a lively and active community. Fast forward to 2025 and the app is near dead and stagnant because EVERYTHING is behind a paywall now. It’s excessive and ridiculously impacts user experience & engagement. Baits, locations, catches at locations, weather, everything!!! They even greatly reduced the number of accessible locations on the map. There used to be hundreds of more available, now there’s just “main” water sources, like “The Ohio River” for example. The app is dull and anti-engaging. It’s like they want me to delete the app and never use it again. I used to be excited to get on and check the catches in my area, and now no one uses it anymore. It takes 3+ days for new local catches to appear. Congratulations on ruining the app while making a pathetic attempt to fill your pockets, Fishbrain.
An annual subscription to Fishbrain should not be MORE than an annual fishing license. Price gouging and greed. It does not take this much money to run the app. The amount of people who use the app has decreased and we’re being asked to pay more for less information, less data, and less interaction. No excuse..BAD APP MANY BEES!!!!!!Version: 9.34.0
2 Stars for what the app USED to beThis app used to be pretty good. It allowed you to see what fish were caught in your area, look for nearby bait shops or fishing tackle stores, gave weather forecasts with the atmospheric pressure and expected bite times, and see what species are mostly caught at a particular body of water. Best of all though, the app allowed you to zoom in on a particular area and see if there were any catches nearby, and if so what they caught. It didn’t let you see exactly where the catch was, but you could get a very general idea depending on how much you had the map zoomed in. All of this was free, and the app was so amazing that I happily paid for a one year subscription. The paid version allows for seeing exactly where people caught their particular catch. It had green pins on the map showing who caught what and where, which was great for finding good fishing spots.
Now, they’ve removed all of the free features I described above and upped their price from $7-$8 a month to $13. There was zero improvement done to the app, merely blocking existing features behind a paywall and demanding a higher price because of it. Ridiculous..Andrew32198Version: 8.140.0
Fishbrain has ruined local fishingOur area has a certain invasive species that is very popular to fish. This app has brought attention to small lakes and ponds where these fish may be found. A lot of waterways in our area are severely delicate and cannot tolerate overfishing or pollution. Guess what this app does-if you guess bring a huge influx of users with no regard for the environment to destroy the local waterways you are correct.
This app describes the users perfectly because every time I ask people where they found this park the answer is always “Fishbrain”. I have cleaned up miles of lines from Fishbrain users who love to live by dominion over all things but do nothing to take care of the environment they are fishing in. If you leave a ton of line and hooks and trash in your wake how are you any different from the invasive species you are chasing.
The lake I am referencing in this post was closed until a couple of years ago because of pollution. Because of the strain of overfishing and pollution it is a matter of time until they close that park to the locals again to fishing. But the Fishbrain user will not care and will be invasive in the next sensitive area until they destroy that one, too..KittenistaVersion: 8.106.0
Problems are not getting solvedThe app itself is okay. However, I stopped using it almost two years ago. At that time, I canceled my pro subscription via Google play. A year ago, I discovered that the app still charges me for the subscription. I was trying to withdraw it from the web, but they have no such ability. I checked my Google play, and there were no active subscriptions under my account, so I sent a request to support. I got the answer if I have nothing in Google, I should not be charged. Fine. A year later, I discovered that they kept charging me. I started to write requests to support, sending screenshots of my Google account subscriptions, but the answer was, “we cannot help you, ask Google.”. Fine. I checked with Google and confirmed that I have no active subscriptions. They recommended I contact the support of the app. I sent them all the screenshots and confirmation from Google again. My problem is still not solved; I’m requesting a return of my money because I’m not approving this transaction. The only way for me is to abandon my old Google account and get a new one, but seriously?! Why should I suffer the consequences of this app architecture gap?.Mariya StupatskayaVersion: 8.123.0
Not great these daysIt’s a great app for finding general locations but now that everyone and their brother uses this app people have started pinning their backyards like anybody can go back their legally to fish. It’s almost like people just use the app to show off what they can catch at home it’s pretty meaningless considering that’s not what the app is designed for and you look like an a**. Recently Fishbrain also updated their app to lock a majority of the pictures posted by people behind a paywall so you can’t even get a general idea of what fish are in that body of water, everything else locked behind the paywall is completely useless considering you can get the exact same service free from pressure tracking apps and a weather app. The lures people use are also locked behind a paywall which honestly is hardly a useful enough feature to be considered pay worthy. Overall just a cash grab for the ignorant. The app “fishing spots” provides twice the service in my opinion and you don’t have to pay for the actually valuable information. 3/10 app.Blunts > In-app purchasesVersion: 8.141.1
Too cluttered and social media focusedTreats itself more like a social media app than a fishing app. Each water body has an orange badge overlay with "new" catches that can't be turned off or dismissed. Every time you tap on a lake it tries to show you what other people have caught and brings up a full screen "feed" about that lake. I don't care what other people upload, I literally only want a simple fishing app with detailed contour maps. I can't even view lake maps effectively because the stupid badge icon blocks the water.. This app has potential but it's too focused on the wrong aspects of fishing, coupled with an absolutely terrible ux design. Adding a simple map mode would make this worth $50 a year but as it exists today I wouldn't even pay $5 - it's too annoying to look at a lake with the constant graphical distractions and persistent bottom drawer trying to get you to "engage" with the lake. I literally couldn't care less about any of that, I don't want to engage with other people or see their catches, I just want to research a lake without an app and it's stupid graphics getting in my way..Markh142Version: 9.35.0
For the Record I love Fish Brain but....Fish brain has been advertising how they have a new store and you can purchase items from their site. I have taken the liberty of doing exactly that. While I will say I am totally satisfied with the Fishbrain fishing shirt that I received. I am completely unsatisfied with the customer service or the lack there of. I purchased a shirt and two hats for $50 and only received the shirt. $30 went to fish brain charity I’m assuming because I still haven’t seen it and no one has any answers. They just keep telling me they’re going to get back to me. But they never do. I would suggest being mindful about spending money on their site. They don’t seem to help with any lost items or money that’s been spent already. It drives me mad because I still use the site and enjoy the benefits of fish brain. But it’s getting upsetting because if you can’t handle a $50 order then I’m never going to drop a $500 order. Just give me my hat or my money already. Because to me this is no different than stealing. I’m sure they don’t want that reputation..VixchipsVersion: 7.13.1
Thank you, Fishbrain, but…You need a subscription to do and see most of the cool and useful things. Fishbrain is great, (except for the expensive subscriptions,)people can share their tricks to success, it gives suggestions for bait and tools, what and where fish have been caught, and there is a list of the known fish. But, you need a subscription to do almost everything else. Also, about the bait thing, it only gives you a few and you have to pay to see the top bait suggestions. You can have a short free trial, but I’ve heard many people’s issues about how they can’t cancel their subscription and they keep getting expensive recurring bills from Fishbrain. Now, this could just be a lie or something very rare or a misunderstanding, but I heard a story about how someone ordered two hats and a shirt. The shirt came, but not the hats. Does the company need that much money? Scam (maybe) and expensive subscriptions? No offense, especially if the employees are already not paid enough. I do like how there seems to be a customer service, but still. Well, thanks for reading!.SlightlyVeryConcernedVersion: 8.138.0
Subscription not neededI regret purchasing the $80/year subscription for this app because it provides nothing of value that isn’t already available for free. The free version is fine, but the paid subscription is completely unnecessary.
The reports and catches people post here are the same as what you can find on Facebook groups or fishing forums for free. I expected unique, verified data, but it’s just user-generated content with no real added value.
The premium features do not enhance the experience in any way that justifies this price. It feels like I paid for a slightly different version of what’s already available for free online.
I wish I had researched more before subscribing. The app doesn’t provide expert insights, real-time updates, or anything exclusive. It’s just an expensive way to see fishing reports that you could easily find elsewhere.
I request a refund because the subscription was misleading in its value. Unless the developers drastically improve the premium features, I strongly advise others NOT to waste their money on this..ManangMajangVersion: 9.21.0
Subscription Ruined FishbrainIt is just unbelievable how many features are locked behind their subscription. It keeps getting worse and worse and even the most simple features are completely unusable because you have to pay for them. This would even be fine, and I would even consider paying if it weren’t for the fact that it used to be FREE and also the fact their subscription is $80/year MINIMUM. They claim that the paywall is necessary to maintain and improve the app but that doesn’t change the fact that everything that made the app great is locked behind a completely overpriced subscription. I am also skeptical of their reasoning because $80/year (or $156/year if you pay monthly) seems completely unjustified for an app of this size. At this point if you don’t want to pay for their subscription, the app boils down to Instagram with fish (but it also lacks many of instagram’s great features). I hope they eventually listen to their customer base and do something about it this but I know they won’t..ZackB33Version: 9.5.1
Two Words: Squandered PotentialQuoting my high school guidance counselor here may be a little extreme, but this app has been around for a few years.
It seems to me that instead of hardening the features that are in place, Fishbrain leadership instead has spent resources on throwing new whiz-bang crap at the wall to see what sticks. Even when something does seem to take off, it’s still barely functioning, and they just move onto the next feature.
Here’s the kicker: Fishbrain thinks you should pay increasing amounts of money for the squishy, poorly-executed, less-than-secure social media fishing app.
Don’t get me wrong, they have some great ideas!
- The social functionality
- Selecting what level of detail you’d like to share about your catches
- Partnering with Navionics
- And so many more!
Just wait until folks connect your kids to your account and family cabin and… etc. Good luck trying to navigate a boat by the Navionics map, or even trying to find the danged boat ramp on a new lake! Nope, it’ll just show a man-made structure and you’ll be back to Google to find out if it’s a fishing pier, dam, ramp, or maybe, just maybe, that elusive place to put in at!!
Nope!! Just kidding—this one’s for canoes and kayaks only.
A little bit of effort to make the practical, real-world side of this app hardened, beta’d, and secure, and maybe it would be worth the cost. If it hasn’t happened now though, well, I’m not holding my breath….ElliedannoVersion: 8.110.0
User Privacy Fail.Cool app. Good functionality.
That said, the app has virtually no data control/privacy options for users. For example, the app automatically makes all your fishing photos available to Google for Google image search queries. Don’t believe me? Do a quick search for your name/username. Now, maybe you love having all of your picture on Google, but I suspect a decent number of us don’t. Even Facebook doesn’t go that far.
Want to make your profile private so that you can just share your fishing experience with friends and family? Sorry. Not gonna happen.
Of course, you consent to this when you download the app, which they were quick to remind me of in two canned replies when I raised the issue with app support. Essentially falling back on the same weak user consent argument that data-abusing companies like Facebook use.
It’s a shame that I have to delete the app just to control how much of my data is distributed to the entire internet. I wish the developers cared more about user privacy. Even the most data-abusive apps like Facebook have implemented basic user privacy options.
I’ll try my best to speak corporate here, since it’s clear that the developers don’t personally care about user privacy: Users care about privacy. Poor privacy practices affect how many people use an app and are therefore bad for an app’s bottom line. At the very least, not incorporating privacy options into your platform is bad optics in the era of data-abusive companies like Facebook..Jhaus33Version: 7.6.0
Ok this will be long but please hear me outI seriously can’t stand how Fishbrain puts a paywall on practically every useful feature—it feels less like a fishing app and more like a constant sales pitch. Every time I try to check something genuinely helpful, I’m hit with another prompt to upgrade, which completely kills the flow and fun of using it. Instead of feeling excited to log catches or explore places i feel like they are just not letting me. I understand COMPLETELY that yall need money to keep your business going. Every business needs money to keep it running it's just how it is. BUT! there is no need to spend a ridiculously high fee to acquire and use the most important and most needed asset and utilities that most people downloaded the app for only for them to find out about the paywall fee needed to access the features that they downloaded the app for. the entire app is almost virtually unusable unless you have the pro upgrade. So please. if anything at least lower the price.DvvcrusktftdVersion: 9.44.0
Old fishbrain was WAY BATTER then nowI started using fishbrain in June of 2018. There was a lively and active community between then and 2020. Fast forward to 2025 and the app is near dead and stagnant because EVERYTHING is behind a paywall now. It's excessive and ridiculously impacts user experience & engagement. Baits, locations, catches at locations, weather, everything!!! They even greatly reduced the number of accessible locations on the map. I just wanted to see what fish were at a lake in town about 15 minutes from me and it it takes me to the top of the state just because the same body of water runs through that town which is over 2 hours away.

I like the old Fishbrain betterI used to love this app! It is such a useful app to someone fishing in an unfamiliar location! I noticed that there is a premium version and that you had to pay for it to see things such as common baits with species- no big deal! Then I noticed that you have to have the premium to view catches in certain locations on a map now- thats pretty annoying! It my opinion, this renders the app pretty useless at this point. The fact that you have to pay $13 a month for data that is being reported by other people is a little absurd to me! This app is making money off of information that I am feeding it by reporting the fish that I catch, and that tempts me to remove my fishing log from the app knowing that. I feel like if you wanna make money off of the app while still being fair to the people who make it possible, you need to make it a one-time, upfront payment!.Adam meismerVersion: 8.139.0
Support is badI’m giving this two stars because it used to be a good app. It helped me find some fishing spots when I first moved to Kansas City. If I were rating it based on how it performs now, it would be zero stars. About 3 months ago my feed became broken. It shows all of my catches at the top of my feed and then a few older posts after that. If I scroll way down I can find some new posts mixed in with mostly old posts. I have contacted support three times and I get an email back saying it’s a known issue, they are sorry and they are working on it. Then the support ticket is closed out. I’m sure it’s to satisfy a metric of how fast they close out support tickets. But the problem hasn’t been resolved. I’ve had to open three different support tickets and still no resolution. So I am done with the app. I’ll be looking for another app to connect with local anglers. Good luck if you download this..Chrisk1162Version: 8.61.0
I dont plan on continuining paid versionUpdate to my first review. I give 2 stars ONLY for the user base and bodies of water database it has. Otherwise the app is complete trash. I would love to give it 1 star because of how annoying the apps lack of features and technical merit are but thats probably unfair. I still would not recommend actually purchasing the paid version.
The AI is still awful - cant even identify a spadefish correctly;
The gear database is still beyond horrid. Half of my gear which is all basically new stuff doesnt appear in the database and I cant for the life of me figure out if you can add it or not manually;
I still have to endure a gazillion freshwater largemouth bass photos everybday in my feed that I don’t want (I fish saltwater) and have tried everything to be rid of;
Still no tidal forecast;
The fishing species bite times forecaster is still useless (was laughing about it with another angler at the pier yesterday).
The ONLY things this app has going for it are it’s large user base and the large body of water database it has. I suspect this will eventually have some sort of ad endurace value to it someday because I dont know any other fishing app that has the user base or water body data. Otherwise I am at a total loss for what they are doing with the VC funding they keep getting because the app isnt getting any better on a technical basis. Seriously, at this point its not that difficult to train AWS rekongnition to get your identification to a better percentage than ZERO (it has literally never identified a fish correctly for me)..MezzmorVersion: 7.13.1

Good app up until It was unsupported by older versionsOne of a kind app that at least has a free option. Please bring back support for pre-iOS 16 devices.SparedVolcano85Version: 9.16.0

Terrible appThey keep removing features to try to push you to pay for the premium version would not recommend this app.Darknight420692Version: 9.35.0
Was goodIt was good before, now you can’t even look at the catches at a certain water body without paying it’s so stupid it’s a useless app now..AthadavidVersion: 9.34.0
Pushing their membership into you non stop. You used to be able to use this app for things such as looking at pictures of what fish were caught at certain spots, but now you need a membership for everything, you can’t even click on a photo without it pulling up it’s membership and prices, do better because you’re not the only app that’s like this..Jerimiah has no ballsVersion: 9.34.0
Per versionUsed to be useful without spending money now you can barely do anything without the pro version.IaydveuVersion: 9.34.0
Ruins fishing and way overpricedRuins spots and charges a ridiculous fee for it. Hard pass..BeepbeepsweepVersion: 9.34.0
This app used to be goodWhy in the hell do you have to pay to look at any lake to see what fish have been caught like you used to see like atleast ten post before you had to pay now it’s a premium feature to see catch in a lake and it wouldn’t be as big a deal if it was like 3 dollars a month or thare was ads or something but now fish brain used to be good now it’s gone the same way as everything else just to make some stupid ceo money make fish brain free again.DrgcdhjgdfhjVersion: 9.34.0
Fake Free ApplicationSince the last update the app is useless since you cant see what fish are in the spots you have to pay for that now, before that you could see at least 10-15.LegogluVersion: 9.32.0
Most essential features not freeFishbrain used to be a good app but now it has barely anything to offer unless you pay for the expensive premium version of the app which lets you use what used to be free. Over the past couple days I have noticed it doesn’t even allow me to look at the catches on and map and when I press on the photos it says I need premium. So if you’re not paying them they don’t have much to offer….MirmobinVersion: 9.31.0
Costs way to muchThey want 215$ a year. Now that 99.99$ a year. Way too much the ideal price for that app should be 59.99$ a month I ain’t paying 100 but if u wanna go for monthly it’s 17.99 and that’s 215$ a year. Ppl that don’t have that type of money, like a single dad that wants to take his son fishing. In good areas. So we don’t waste gas going to a spot with no good fish..JjthetruckguyVersion: 9.31.0
Terrible new updateThe new update is terrible. You can’t even view anything now it’s basically a pay or nothing. And it’s also a ridiculously high cost. I wish they would’ve just kept it as it was before even though before it was still money hungry now it’s just 10 times worse we’ll be deleting..Jonah Goldfish2Version: 9.31.0
Fish brain sucksYou can’t even view catches for free on fish brain any more. At this point the make the app cost money.Unhappy 798Version: 9.31.0
So bad. Don’t get itThis app is so bad. You have to pay for everything including just seeing catches in locations. The only thing you can do on this app is seeing locations of over fished spots. It’s extremely disappointing. You mind as well just make it a payed app. The subscription is stupidly expensive. They also just respond with the same message when writing a review. It’s so stupid. Don’t know why I’m writing this. This group doesn’t care about the people or fishing community. There just a bunch of money hungry people trying to take advantage of kids and people
trying to get into fishing. Just make ability to see catches free and I wouldn’t care as much. I’m deleting it anyway..Big fish catcher—20Version: 9.31.0
Rather pointless without payAll of the basic features they advertise as you being able to use are just to get you to download the app, once they get you in the door all features are subscription based and the app is basically just a map and other peoples fish pictures unless you pay for it. I can get that on google. deleted..Coolest thing evaVersion: 9.30.0
They nerfed itThis app used to be pretty good. There was a premium mode you could pay for where you could get more features, and now they’ve made it so you have to pay for premium to do pretty much anything. It’s honestly pretty unusable now.WiesinVersion: 9.30.0
Make fishbrain great againThis app WAS until they started making you pay for everything, cant even look at a picture of someones catch without having to pay 20 bucks a month.Mad@fishbrainVersion: 9.30.0
Most locations are parking lots$100 for what? 12+ fishing spots were located on the street and in parking lots with no water in sight. Rubbish app.HaukTuah69Version: 9.29.0
