IF ONLY we could listen to all music like thisOne of my favorite iPad apps, allowing even listeners/viewers like myself with only a modicum of musical training to follow and appreciate the music. I purchased this when it first came out years ago and have enjoyed it again and again. This is really the way (one way) musical recordings should evolve in terms of presentation. You can zoom in for the many levels of detail or zoom out for the full effect. Perfect for the iPad..Version: 2.0.12
A great listening and learning experienceI have used this app for years and have thoroughly enjoyed listening to Beethoven’s 9th Symphony while watching the score scroll by. What a fabulous way to observe Beethoven’s orchestration techniques while you listen to his inimitable style. As long as I’ve listened to Beethoven, 59 years at this writing, I have never ceased being amazed at his synthesis and invention. It is all simply too marvelous to overstate. I’d love to find other apps like this for similar works..Version: 2.0.12
The beginning of my careerI started playing clarinet in 6th grade. On the bus ride home, I would open this app and explore the different recordings of Beethoven 9. This was the first piece of classical music I fell In love with. Now, I am a professional clarinetist and I play with many professional orchestras. This app started my music journey. I can’t thank you enough! Without this app, I would not have found my love for classical music. Thank you!.Version: 2.0.12
A stunning idea perfectly realizedI bought the full version of this app a few days ago, and I’m so happy I did. I can’t recall the last time five dollars gave me so much enjoyment. This is brilliantly designed and executed; it’s a great thrill and very highly recommended. And it supports background play (I’m listening to it now, as I compose this). I thank everyone who contributed to making this little miracle..Version: 2.0.11
Outstanding!Wish I had discovered this app sooner. Putting four simultaneous versions together and being able to seamlessly switch between them is nothing short of genius. And not just any versions at that! Friscay is my favorite. Karajan’s ‘62 version with the same orchestra is thought by many to be his best, though I prefer his ‘77 version. Bernstein’s ‘79 video shows his heartfelt emotions better than any other. Finally, Gardner’s version with smaller forces and faster speeds is, to me, a wonderful counterpoint to the more traditional versions preceding it. I know I will spend many hours exploring this fine app. Many thanks, R. Scharf.Version: 2.0.11
Excellent AppThis is a must have if you are a student of music at any age. Being able to see the instrument being played while watching the conductor or reading the notes is so wonderful and puts your heart closer to the music!.Version: 2.0.12
Exceptionally coolThis is a sophisticated and intricate app! Its features demonstrate a true understanding of what fascinates musicians. Skip around on the recordings and the score to hear different interpretations, watch the fun light-up map of the orchestra, and read detailed analysis. So cool..Version: 2.0.12
Best app I’ve ever purchasedMy first app review ever. Absolutely love this app. My favorite symphony comes to life in ways in ways I would not have thought of. I’m completely satisfied and I don’t usually say that about anything..Version: 2.0.9
A phenomenal giftAs an aspiring composer (aren’t we all in respect to Beethoven?) this is just the most magnificent resource to absorb and learn from a genius. It’s fascinating, beautifully laid out, and I can’t thank the app designers enough. Love it!.Version: 2.0.12
My favorite appBeautiful music with libretto, analysis, 4 different renditions, and video for the Bernstein one. Have been listening to it for years, thank you for the joy and comfort it brings me..Version: 2.0.12
One of the BestOf course both Beethoven and his Ninth Symphony are each one of the best, but this app is one of the best iPad apps I have ever used. Very approachable as a non-musician (like me), it is also excellent for professional musicians. I wish they would give the same treatment to The Fifth and other top classical works! Please buy this to encourage more of this outstanding content. (Note that it collects no data from you…none!).Version: 2.0.12
Great AppThis app is fantastic! The various version, videos and overall product are dry well put together. I ensure that every time I upgrade my phone and pad I add a copy of this app..Version: 2.0.12
FabulousBrowsable score that plays along with a professional orchestra that’s at your beck and call. Multiple recordings. What’s not to love?.Version: 2.0.12
Great app! Only one problem…I love so much about this app! I just wish it could connect to AirPlay to connect to my HomePod so I could follow along with my boys with anything better than the lame iPad speakers!.Version: 2.0.12
Thank goodnessThank you for your help and I hope you have a wonderful day today..Version: 2.0.12
So great!!!!!I love this app! It gives me all of Beethoven 9! I’ve been thinking of duplicating myself into a full symphony orchestra and performing this outdoors! 😀.Version: 2.0.12
Wow.I first became a fan of the nineth 40 years ago. First time to actually understand it on an intimate level. Just wow..Version: 2.0.12

Pure JOY!!!Thank you.Version: 2.0.12
Amazing!I just got this app and am dazzled by it. (I do not experience any jerkiness --it runs very smoothly for me.) What a delight! Four orchestral versions, and you can switch instantly from one to another without interrupting the music. You can watch the live players, or a diagram if the orchestra lighting up as each instrument plays. Two levels of commentary-one streaming along the edge as the song progresses, explaining things to listen for in simple, yet precise and illuminating terms for the average listener; and a second longer explanation of the piece is also available. You can follow along with the score for any and/or all instruments, and you can follow the ORIGINAL handwriiten score as well. There are a number of commentators, and other resources with info on Beethoven's life and career, and how the 9th came into being. Everything is gorgeous. $13? It's a steal for what you get when you get the full version. Hats off to this great app!.Version: 1.0.0
A work of art worthy of the 9th SymphonyThis is an amazing app. For a $14 in app purchase, you get 4 complete recordings of the symphony, as well as a video of one, conducted by Leonard Bernstein. That alone, generally speaking, isn't a bad bargain, if you look at comparable prices for the 9th on iTunes. But, of course, this app doesn't stop there. You see not only the entire score, shown exactly in time with the music, but also several fascinating visualizations and commentary that help your understanding of the piece. And to top it all off, video and written commentary about the piece is included just for good measure. Pay no attention to the ignorant or disrespectful naysayers here, download the app and try it yourself. This is hours of content, combined beautifully and packaged together in a comprehensive and interactive bundle that will leave you enriched and encouraged..Version: 1.2.0
ExtraordinaryOnly exceptionally do I write reviews of apps. This application is a music lover's dream. It provides for four different interpretations of the same musical score, it allows you to read the score and the libretto and it permits you to jump from one interpretation to another to compare them in real time. Great. I have seen that some users complain about the cost of the app. Having the four versions of the same musical piece for 13 dollars is not expensive. And in addition you get the video of Karajan's conducting. A bargain! Two suggestions: What about Bach's St Mathews Passion? Would it be possible to select variable music sections (from bar a to bar b) and play the different versions in sequence?.Version: 1.0.0
Superb app for a brilliant masterpieceOf course, the app's content and the masterpiece within it is absolutely beautiful. On the app itself, it's amazing. This type of source is what separates apps from books, lectures, or CDs. It reminds me of how well the National Geographic app works interactively compared to just reading the magazine. You you sample it, you'll know what I'm talking about. The next step up would be like a virtual reality experience or something. Wish there were a lot more of these supporting other works, but then I'd be dead broke since it is a tad pricey. Great job, otherwise. I recommend this for all classical music enthusiasts..Version: 1.1.1
More informative note neededI purchased "The Orchestra" app when it first appeared. This outstanding app requires 1.92Gb download which takes a long time! The note on the Beethoven app reveals that it has only a 2 minute sample from each featured conductor. This is so all the features could be enabled for instant purchase. They neglected to say this requires a download of 1.55Gb for your two minute samples. Since it is built on the same platform as The Orchestra, I would hope they could build on that instead of requiring full download for the 2 minute samples. Other than that, this is an outstanding contribution to the enjoyment of classical music. Had I known it required that ,large a download I would not have ordered the sample..Version: 1.1.3
A Spectacular AchievementThis is a fabulous gift for the music lover. It is no ordinary recording of the Beethoven's Ninth: it is an education worthy of a busy semester in a top-flight music school. If you are a pretty advance music listener, and you would enjoy developing better understandings of one of the great masterpieces of music do yourself a favor and get this. This would not have been easy to do without the iPad: it gives you four of the great recordings at once and people like Sir Elliot Gardner helps you to understand the music better, great Leonard Bernstein explains the philosophy behind Beethoven's music ... and it you have Karajan's recording, too. Oh the price? Considering the amount of work went into making this music seminar, it is worth 20 times more. It will I crease the value of your iPad. A music lover.Version: 1.0.0
Great app, albeit a little priceyThis app is exceptionally well developed, and it will be of interest to serious (classical) music lovers. Yes, there is no question that the full version (or, rather, the in-app upgrade) is pretty steep, though. It would be worth it to me if there was more content (i.e., additional symphonies). I like to support app developers--particularly those that do high quality work--but this is a bit excessive. That said, I am always amazed by the comments complaining about a "teaser" or a "sample," and then claiming that this wasn't clear "up front." Sorry, but it couldn't be stated any more clearly in the the very short description of the app..Version: 1.0.0
App for a lover of the 9thIf you love LvB's 9th this is a must have. The four recordings of the 9th are legendary. The fact you have the score and can see what is being played helps with the more quieter instruments. The teaser app gives you a chance to test drive it before you buy the full experience. A little pricey but you have four records, a video of the 9th, and a lot more. Would love to see this applied to other works in the future..Version: 1.0.0
Well DoneAs an ex Music major, I found this a rare treat. Love the ability to compare performances, listening through my sound system. I already have several recordings of this work, but being able to compare the interpretations phrase by phrase is simply amazing. While $14 bucks isn't cheap by iOS Apps - compared to what I paid per college lecture it's a drop in the bucket. Just which they'd do the same for Bach - with an emphasis on harmony..Version: 1.1.1
SuperbI have had this app for a couple of years now. I played it for hours non-stop when I first got it. The whole thing, how it is programmed and arranged just fascinates me. The freshness has not disappeared though I don't listen to it as frequent as I had. Best value for the money. But again, who can really place value on a master piece like this, just simply well done. I wish Touchpress will create more pieces like this..Version: 2.0.1
Stunning - wish there were more pieces done like this!Extremely enjoyable way to experience one of the best pieces ever written. I upgraded quickly to the full with no regrets. My four year old loves learning the different instruments in the Bernstein video. Only wish they had videos for each of the four recordings and more pieces done just the same way. A real win for any classical music lover!.Version: 1.0.0
Well worth the costI am a passionate about Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. This iPad app came out a couple of years ago, but the price (about $15 as I recall) was too much for something unknown. I checked it out yesterday and they'd dropped the price significantly - to $5 - so I bought it. I'm glad I did; there is a ton of information about the work, an English translation of the libretto, and four different performed versions by different conductors. You can hear the differences a conductor makes, and in real-time watch the score. And a lot of commentary, some historical, but mainly on its interpretation and variation in performance. Wonderful stuff. This is the kind of iPad content that makes learning engaging. I highly recommend it..Version: 2.0.2
Brilliant!!!I bought the paid version and it's truly BRILLIANT!!! You can imagine how much effort the developers put in this app. Definitely worth the price for anyone interested in the 9th symphony. A great experience of learning, listening and understanding. Almost phrase by phrase analysis! Looking forward to more apps like this!! I made in-app purchase so App Store doesn't allow me to write reviews for the paid version....Version: 1.1.1
Totally amazingThis app is totally amazing, showing the full multi-media potential for iPad apps. And when you consider that you get the equivalent of nearly 4 CDs of music, its a bargain. This will provide many, many hours of enjoyment and worthwhile study, listening, reading the explanations, watching the visualizations of the orchestra players currently playing, seeing the sheet music in real time, etc..Version: 1.1.1
Very enjoyable experienceThis is a great app for anybody interested in better understanding this piece of music. Being able to listen to the performances while seeing the corresponding information being dynamically displayed on the screen is a very enjoyable experience. Yes, the app is a little more expensive than the average app on the App Store but, in my opinion, the app is well worth its price..Version: 1.1.1
Finally, a Great Music AppMost app developers seems stuck in the quick & cheap mindset, so I was genuinely thrilled to find this, the fullest demonstration of the iPad App's potential I've come across so far. Obviously, this one's only for classical music buffs, and with four different full recordings of the symphony, it's heavy on memory usage. (And yes, it's kind of silly to have to download the full thing just to test drive two minutes.) But assuming you're the sort of person who would want to own more than one recording of any Symphony (I barely qualify here -- prefer chamber music), I can't imagine better value for the money -- presumably DG has decided to use this to promote the concept rather than to make immediate profits on their back catlogue. I'm looking forward to more in this series, and hope musicians in other fields try this form -- recordings by Nick Cave, David Sylvian, and the whole ECM gang would be perfect candidates..Version: 1.0.0
Does not work with Airplay 2...Great application for understanding orchestration and comparing different performances of Beethonen’s 9th, but the music cannot be streamed to Airplay 2 devices, so I’m left with listening with the iPad or iPhone microphones or wired earphones, B luetooth devices. A real downer for those who still appreciate Hi-Fi rendering....Version: 2.0.11
Excellent - be sure to read app info before downloadingThis is a great app that gives you 4 classic recordings of Beethoven's 9th as well as commentary/backstory. It's great to not only hear the music but watch the score as it moves along as well, and as with other touch press music apps, the 'digital orchestra' feature is cool too (the app shows a diagram of the orchestra and each instrument section and as the music plays it indicates instruments that are playing at that time - its a unique way to see how a piece of music moves around the orchestra and how different sections counter/support each other in a piece).Version: 1.0.0
Excellent but not for everyoneThis app is a must for only Classical and Beethoven lovers !!!.Version: 1.0.0
GreatI love it! Thank you.Version: 2.0.5
GénialTout simplement génial, a quand d'autres pièces. Un peu cher et a besoin d' un peu d'ajustement sur le suivi "karaoke style" qui n'est pas toujours sur les bonnes notes mais l'idée est génial..Version: 1.0.0
