HuntWise: A Better Hunting App App Comments & Reviews
HuntWise: A Better Hunting App Positive Reviews
Can’t beat it for the moneyI use this app mainly for property lines and the mapping. Other apps are way more expensive a year for literally only one state worth of property lines. The 3D feature has to be the best thing about it, being able to look at a 3D map of the terrain in a hilly area really improves scouting. Only downfall is the map doesn’t show a lot of smaller creeks that are in the woods, but I can usually pull up google maps and it’ll show me if I’m really curious. I’ve never tried any of the weather stuff or go off of any of the “hunt predictions” so I can’t say anything about those. Truly if you want to know the weather check it on your phone and get out there in the woods regardless because it’s unpredictable. All in all tho it’s a very useful thing to have if you want to pay for the membership..Version: 6.2.6
So far not so goodI’ve had HuntWise on my iPhone for a few years. It was a free app when I started using it. It was also very easy to use and an almost perfect app for a hunter. I had 7 stands marked and could open the app and check all the stands for wind, moon phase, temp etc. in about three minutes. But all good things come to an end. HuntWise started to “improve” the app and wanted everyone to purchase the new one. So they started to take away from the free one. This month I gave up and upgraded to the Pro. So far not impressed at all. From the pics on the come-on’s to upgrade I thought I would be getting what used to be free. Wrong! So far it is amazingly difficult to use. My original stands are on the map but not listed. So the only way to get to the stand is use my finger to move the map to the stand. Once there all that is shown is the stand itself, no wind direction....nothing! Then when I try to get a prediction the app immediately defaults to my home. I’ll play with the app some more but I doubt that I’ll be a HuntWise costumer much longer. If they would get back to what they had when it was free, simple to use and very informative, I would gladly pay..Version: 6.5.3
Land owners reveiwAs a land owner, all this proliferation of data to the masses has been a huge problem with people seeing what we have had work hard to purchase and maintain and then hound the land owners for hunting privileges. We (landowners) have worked years, ate beans and rice, drove old cars, don't go out to eat, work 60-70 hours a week to have a quiet peaceful place to hunt and live in peace. Leave us alone and stay off the land. It is for friends and family. NOT strangers with an App. If a stranger calls or asks to hunt it will always be NO. Do you go to my church? Are you a blood relative? No no no no. Also. The these maps are based on county tax maps (GIS data, im in real estate) there are notoriously inaccurate. If you are trusting these maps without knowing the surveyor boundaries you could end up prosecuted for trespassing, loose your guns, loose years of hunting rights and possibly end up in jail. Not to mention the fines and a criminal record. Talk to people you know personally, show your of good character, go help work the land and repair habitat and then maybe you will get hunting rights..Version: 8.8.0
Very useful app. Could use a couple of simple additions..Love the app, use it to mark down everything I see. A couple of things that I have experienced that I hope can be improved: When you have very bad reception and are recording your path, the recorded path will erase entirely when you go somewhere and have no reception. I understand not being able to continue the recorded path at that point, but it would be VERY helpful if it would auto save the path that was being recorded up to that point, and also if it would have an option to automatically resume the path whenever you get back into an area with reception. Second, I wish that it would show your current elevation when you are creating a marker or recording a path. No need to continuously track elevation, but i would love to be able to see what elevation the path began and ended at, with occasional updates every 500 feet up or down, or something like that. At the very least, having the best guess at current elevation when pinning a marker would be awesome. Other than those two things, it works awesome and I will continue to use it and pay the membership during the seasons I use it often..Version: 6.8.0
ReviewWhen these apps first came out I burned through the free trial on all of them that I could find. When it was time to pay I chose HuntWise. I’ve been a user for 3 years now and don’t plan to ever switch. It’s cheaper than OnX for all state property lines and the mapping seems to always be updating to the current state of the lands. They have added a lot of cool features and updates in these 3 years and I don’t see them stopping anytime soon. I’m also an avid artifact hunter and this app is great for finding new lands to seek permission to hunt on. Did I also mention that HuntWise has a social Media attached to the app? It’s similar to Facebook but without all of the gossip, just awesome people posting about their outdoors adventures/hobbies..Version: 7.3.3
Landowner and lines out of dateI have been using this app for several years. I started using it to find property to purchase. I thought it was helping… In Jan 2022 I purchased a large parcel that was split in half. In Aug 2022 I asked app support why the lines and owners were not up to date. They said they would update by requesting county data. In Oct 2022 I asked why it was still not updated. They said it takes 3-6 months. In Jan 2023 I ask again, still not updated. They say “we appreciate your patience” but continue to promote the app for finding landowner info for hunting. People will be wasting their time with that feature. You’d think the state of Michigan would be up to date seeing the app owner is based in Grand Rapids. Unfortunately the property lines and land owner info is at least 18 months out of date. The app is 4.5/5 but map detail is 2/5..Version: 8.2.0
Best mapping app!We own 20 acres in Oregon and I have struggled with other apps to map our trails and camera locations until fortune smiled. On a recent vacation to Lake Norman in North Carolina My wife and I met a man and his family at a local restaurant and asked what line of work he was in. He said he worked at Sportsman Tracker and then went on to explain a little about what they did. Later that evening I downloaded the free HuntWise app and wow! Free app was great and on my return home to Oregon upgraded to Pro version which is way beyond what I expected. Also did a little research and found out the “employee” from Sportsman Tracker was Jeff Courter the CEO and founder of the company! Great product, great “employees” and humility. Will be checking out your fishing app as well. The Bakers.Version: 6.0.2
Five StarsI love the HuntWise app. The mapping tool helps me decide where to hunt on which day. It tells me wind direction and shows me which stand is best any given day and time. I also love the the tracking tool. I shot a buck on November 17 and was able to record our tracking path and mark blood. The app also shows land owner names and property lines which allowed me to know the owner of the neighboring property to call him and get permission to track. HuntWise is the ideal tool for any hunter. It makes scouting and preparing for the season easier, and helped me be successful in the 2018 hunting season. I recommend every hunter download it and start using it today!.Version: 5.4.3
Biggest advancement in hunting since gunsExplaining what I think could make it better is gonna be way shorter than my positive feedback. The ideal wind directions could be spilt into 10 degree increments or so to give a more specific range for each stand (or atleast down to N, NNE, NE, NEE etc.) Add when the moon is overhead and underfoot to the moonrise and moonset times. And make adjusting the time on the predictions a vertical slider or something, bit difficult with the new iPhone being without a Home Button and having to use gloves in cold weather. That is all I can think of. Literally wrote an IG and FB post to tell all my hunting buddies to download this and plug in their info ASAP. Great job guys 👍🏼👌🏼.Version: 5.4.3
HuntWise reviewGreat app all around. Have been using it for just about a season and a half now and I always look to it the night before I hunt, and even 2-3 days before I will hunt. I have multiple stands set up where I hunt, so the app lets me see the wind that day and I can choose the best stand by seeing the wind with the app. Also future temperature drops to plan to hunt. Great map layers. Just a great app to use if ur a hunter of any kind. You can even filter in Turkey, and other wild game depending on the season it is. They also give you bits of knowledge about each phase of the hunting season! 100% download and use..Version: 6.9.4
Honest ThoughtsI’ve been using this app for now 2 deer seasons. I live in north central Texas (cross Timbers) and I will say that in the year and a half that I have been using this, it has never been useful. The map features are awesome. The scientific data and “hunt percentage” is worthless. If the science and data was collected by specific regions. It would be more helpful. To my understanding, this app collects local weather data and takes the most generic science of white tail movements and give you their best guest. I’ve hunted all my life, so I understand that even the best experts won’t get it right every time. But how is a north west deer going to be similar to a north central Texas deer ? I am extremely frustrated, and unless things change I will not be paying for this anymore at the end of my 1 year contract. I bought this app with high hopes to learn about the deer in my region. Not get thrown information that is the most generic. Sorry guys, On X may be worth your time. This app aside from the mapping features may not be worth your time. Especially if you live in Texas, where deer hunting is the most unique than anywhere else..Version: 7.0.0
Knowledge is powerThe HuntWise App is crucial when hunting or hiking trails. I have the ability to scout new areas before I hunt them and love the multiple map layers to better understand the terrain. The app helps me find saddles, potential bedding areas, wetlands, and food sources. I plot my path marks so I never get lost or go off the best route when entering or exiting in the dark. I also use the app for new hunting opportunities or tracking a deer on the neighbors property. The app is very updated with landowner names, phone numbers, and addresses so you are one step ahead when contacting them. Hands down the best app for hunting..Version: 6.6.6
Best hunting appI found this app 2 years ago when tracking a deer during now season. I was able to contact landowners before walking onto properties and even acquire help of a neighbor and now friend. We also manage blind locations and distances so we all can have a great hunt. Also being able to access wind direction and plan an alternate hunt before going out is crucial! Whether recording walking path to locate a deer and even your way home! This app is a constant guide for you in the woods and your never alone with HuntWise or not ahead of the hunt! Must get this app.Version: 8.8.1
Great app HORRIBLE customer serviceDownloaded app and was bragging to all hunting buddies to get them to give it a try. While I had tried the free trial and loved it I couldn’t afford it right then so I canceled before being charged. Still sorting out how I got signed up again to be charged, but after reaching out to customer service and explaining there was an error. I waited WEEKS and still got no help! Now apple being as crappy as they are I have to let the charge go through if I want to download any apps and only then can they MAYBE issue the refund! App is good for purpose but I don’t recommend buying or putting your card info on it!.Version: 8.5.1
Perfect place to consolidate!I’ve hunted in multiple states for 45+ years. I’ve had great memories of hunts in the past but, just memories. With HuntWise, it’s been incredible to consolidate the memories with locations! How? Dropping those pins, places notes about what occurred for that pin to drop (the sightings, years & types of harvest) and adding photos to help plan for the next hint as well as remember the previous. Harvests, sightings, scrapes, bedding areas, camps, all in one visible place, right at my finger tips! Visible sight of the land and terrain from the maps only makes it better. 10/10!.Version: 8.4.1
Pay or the highwayMan, I used this hunting app all last season and loved it. I loved it so much, that I paid for the top package throughout my hunting season. I come back this year, and the free version is basically worthless. Can’t see anything on the weekends. Makes me not want to pay for the app. I love WHS but I think this is a step in the wrong direction. Don’t forget where we came from, don’t forget the small timers, or maybe even the high school kids that can’t afford the high price line. With 100’s of hunting prediction apps, I think this is the wrong step in direction. If the app was still somewhat even useable for Fri-Sunday I’d consider buying the subscription again. Bummed.Version: 8.5.0
Great app that you don’t have to break the bank for. Most apps, if not all, have asked me for $30+ just to get some simple info for hunting. So far this app gives you everything you need in the free/standard version, almost more than you would get while paying for other apps. I love how easy to use it is and gives you so much info, I can track my stands, paths, weather, everything. Don’t waste your time with the other apps, I’ve tried them all. I also love the social part of it, sharing your harvests, info, tips, it’s great, and the shop has some great prices..Version: 5.4.3
Huntwise Best AppThis is absolutely the best app an outdoorsmen social media app an outdoorsman could ask for! First, the map features are absolutely great! Especially with the pro subscription! The community is absolutely wonderful and everyone is very supportive! The gear tab (where you can buy gear) is wonderful and useful! You can set a pin on the map for where certain things are such as stands, blinds, trailcams, etc. are at! One thing that would be nice is the ability to post video, but I still give this app five stars and a big thumbs up to all the people at Huntwise HQ!.Version: 5.4.1
Great productPretty great and simple to use. Ita This is a feature request that is so simple and makes so much common sense that I thinkbit was just over looked. But On the feeds it would be amazing if everyone’s post included their geo location (state and county) and then I would want the ability to filter and search by those location. Some people do include their location but most do not. Personally, I am more interested in the hunts that have occurred around where I live, I don’t really care as much about seeing ppl who made kills in Texas when I live and hunt in Kentucky. I would rather see how the hunters around me are doing..Version: 5.4.3
Can’t Do WithoutBeen using HW for 5 years now, I promise you I can’t live without it!! Been times when I got turned around deep in the woods in the dark, I pull out my phone, open HW and it shows the direction I’m walking and I walk directly to my stand!! Wind predictions are also great to know what stand I am going to sit!! I use to keep separate notes of every hunt, separate! Now I make the note in HW for each stand!!! Boundary lines, daily predictions, stand comparisons, marking your walk path, and many more features I love!!!.Version: 7.3.0
Best Hunting App EVERI have been using this app for the past 2+ years. When I first started I was using the free version and it was okay. I would often find myself using it and another free version hunt app for different features. I decided to upgrade to the Premium version and really liked it. So much that I deleted the other app. This year I upgraded to the elite membership and LOVE all the features!! If you haven’t tried this hunting app yet you should- it’s a big game changer..Version: 7.0.0
Use it EverydayI only came here to complain about the new update, everything else is amazing. This app works with my day to day life. Whether it’s weather, pressure, wind, rut, etc. But with this new update it now no longer specifies certain temperatures, pressure, etc. it feels less user friendly as well as promoting new videos on each different tool. I don’t like the update at all but will definitely keep using this app. Hopefully it changes a little bit but I still recommend this app over any other hunting app. I’ve used most..Version: 8.0.1
Half way decentJust gonna start out by saying this is the first review I have ever left on an app… but I’m doing it bc I take my hunting seriously. With that being said I do have to start out by saying the mapping side of things are great but I wouldn’t recommend getting it to see ur best whitetail movement prediction bc from what I’ve seen it’s way wrong!!! When it shows that I have a high chance of movement I see nothing, but this morning it showed I had a 0% chance of movement and it has been the best morning hunt for me this season.Version: 8.5.0
Everything at my fingertipsThis app is by far my favorite. It always works and is very accurate from the location to the info it saves. I have used it in several states, I have used it to find out that I am still on land I have permission to be on. I used it to find my stand in the pitch dark before. I have many apps on my device, I have used them all. Now OnX is my first choice and almost always my only one. Great app!.Version: 8.7.0
Amazing appI love this app I use it every day and the only thing I don’t like is all the options/features that I’m missing out on because of the pro deals. I want all of my friends and others to start hunting and to help them they should start by getting an app to help them ,but the pro membership limits almost everything on the app. I’m only 12 so I don’t want to spend $60 a month for an app I only use on the weekends or in the summer I only have $60 period..Version: 6.5.8
GREAT application - Until it has problems loading. To be clear, I enjoy the application. I pay for the Elite version, which is ALOT of money for myself to invest in an app, & normally wouldn’t do. Which says a lot about Huntwise’s App. That being said, I pay all of that money, & sometimes the application simply will not load things, or is slow to load them; pictures refuse to load in “Land for Sale”, map layers take forever, ect. I’ve done everything I can to speed it up. Clear cache data on phone & app. Delete & reinstall. Restart my phone. Ect. But sometimes it simply just refuses to load things. Even with a good connection. I like the App, but I refuse to pay that much money for an app that will sometimes work to its full potential. I’m not paying for a “sometimes amazing” app. Hope there is something they can do. Soon..Version: 7.1.0
Awesome appThis is honestly one of the best things to happen for hunting for me. It makes it super easy to pre scout an area and pre game where to put stands before you even see the property. The offline map feature is a life saver when hunting in areas without cell reception. Not to mention the property lines it shows and the owner of that property as well, no more asking every neighbor till you get it right, all that info is now at your fingertips. 5/5 will/would recommend.Version: 5.4.3
Best Hunting App on the MarketYou will not find a better app to meet literally any of your hunting needs. The maps are up to date and well done. The whitetail hunting predictions are extremely helpful. The user interface is easy to use. They have programs with top brands for gear discounts. And above all else, they’re an extremely helpful and hands on company. I love HuntWise and can’t say enough good about the app they’ve built..Version: 7.2.1
Great useful hunting appI’ve been using this Hunting app for 2 years now and it’s no nonsense and navigation is great. I tried 2 other hunting apps lately because of the hype they were getting and they were not user friendly, pushed advertising and product tabs instead of concentrating on it being a useful easy to navigate tool. HuntWise nailed it in my opinion and was more reasonable per annual cost..Version: 8.1.1
ImprovementsNot a bad app would recommend. Hoping to see updates coming to the logging system. Wish you could log animals by Stand so you can keep track what was harvested and where on your property. Also wish it had an option so I could put where my feeders are located. As I hunt in Texas it is legal to use corn feeders. Basically if they could put in almost like a journal system so you can keep track of all the animals harvested by each stand or location on the property that would be great.Version: 5.4.2
Last Year’s Version WAS GreatI loved it last year but now they updated it and instead of showing my hunting area, the map always uses my current location. Why in the heck do I need to know info on my neighborhood instead of my farm? I have relocated my farm six times and every time I reload the app it goes right back to my current location. I will not be renewing!.Version: 8.0.2
Good when it worksThe good: Excellent tips on deer hunting, good satellite photos, really like the wind direction stuff and the deer hunting predictions, great GPS accuracy. The bad: Does not flip when turning the phone or IPad as it would be nice to use in landscape mode occasionally, it tends to lose my wind data for my blinds & stands occasionally (especially after and update) causing me to have to re-submit my blinds with the wind data, it does not differentiate between deer stands & duck blinds when predicting in an area for my wind data as a duck & deer require opposite winds..Version: 7.1.0
Good idea but...I find all of the tools in this app very interesting but it needs some serious adjusting. The forecast needs to be tuned because it says that my house in Southern California has about a 65% of having moose at 1pm. The maps are also not up to date and show locations that I know have changed like lakes that have receded and dried up. I checked and it showed that my high school football field was under construction when it was completed over three years ago. A more accurate map is very important for what this map is trying to do..Version: 5.4.0
This app and community has made me a better hunterI would like to thank everyone at HuntWise for creating an atmosphere that has inspired me to become a better outdoorsman! From their algorithms that help me plan out my trips to utilizing the community to get recommendations and see others success. Whether you are a seasoned vet or starting out, having HuntWise is a must that will keep you active in your hunting lifestyle!.Version: 6.4.1
For the little people tooAs a newer hunter wasn’t sure what to expect on our new small plot of land (less than 8 acres). Since using this app (summer 2019) I have located 5 bucks and really able to identify key hunting features bringing my game to the next level. Might only be 8 acres. It marking activity has changed my approach instead of crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. Love this app and it’s updates are always getting better..Version: 6.2.0
Best Hunting app AvailableThis app is fast becoming my favorite go to hunting app. I love all the functions and options for scouting, and predicting weather. I only have one complaint, it seems that the satellite imagery is a little out of date. I hunt a place with a huge clear-cut that was cut about five years ago, and in the app it still shows it as being mature timber. Other than that, I love it!.Version: 6.4.2
HuntingI honestly think it a is good app to have but if the you want to use it for when it is a good time to hunt or the weather it bc i have seen more on when the percentage is down then it was high. But overall it is good app to have when you dont know where the property line are. When you are hunting a new property or different state. And i have my friends that use it for when they are riding atv just for the property lines..Version: 8.1.2
Not that greatCan never use it in the bush and doesn’t work without wifi .... always logging me off and ya it sucks would like my money back!!.Version: 5.4.2
Grate appThis is a grate app just some maps could be updated in some areas..Version: 6.7.1
AwesomeApp predicted 7am as best time in my area - bagged an 8 pointer at 7:11! Wind direction feature is a great feature..Version: 5.3.1
5 issues, with hopefully constructive input.1) Performance degradation once I have a few markers and paths at a hunt location. The map starts glitching really bad. Needs serious performance improvement. 2) When recording a walking track, it drops often and loses the recording. Other GPS map apps don’t do that. Needs to be fixed. 3) Over reliance on cell signal, the app goes blank and unresponsive when cell signal is poor/interrupted, it should do better data caching, the app content shouldn’t go “blank” so to speak. 4) I can only speak for whitetails, but the HuntCast algorithm doesn’t take strong wind and heavy inclement weather into consideration, it should factor that in to decrease the probability during those periods. 5) Should offer more comparable level of content to Canada. I understand the Canadian population and market share is much less, but the hunting culture is strong in Canada and also many travel annually from the States to hunt in Canada. We are right next door after all! P.S. how can I find out what is in each update? The descriptions for all the updates are still the same as it 2021-01-31. Thanks!.Version: 6.5.9
Sweet little app. But...I can never look at hunt cast, when I need it it never works, any day I’m not planning on going out it works fine, anytime I really need it. Won’t load..Version: 6.5.5
Hunt wise reveiwI have requested a satellite image a long time ago because theres a cloud in the way of my stand and it never got done other that that its pretty good.Version: 6.1.6
Use this all the time.A great app that is pretty accurate. Still have to play the weather. 😃👍.Version: 4.0.5
LocationsThis is a good app It would be awesome if we could share saved locations with buddies New stands, blinds, deer sign etc..Version: 4.0.13
Very cool!Great integration of mapping allows creating favourite hunting locations and tracking of hunting buddies..Version: 4.0.2
