Why break something that worked fine?The local play on the old ticket to ride app was all within the main app and worked perfectly. After 10 minutes of messing around with the local play code number, we were able to play a round but then it prompts you to look at the main screen for the score. What main screen? In order to get local multiplayer to work we both had to join in the companion app using the invite code.
