Proton Authenticator App Comments & Reviews

Proton Authenticator Positive Reviews

Good start, needs some polishIt’s a functional 2FA app. Backing up your iCloud and syncing between devices is nice. But the UI isn’t particularly smooth; it jitters when scrolling. Also, there’s no way to pin favorites or change ordering, so the ones I use the most I can’t move to the top. I’m always a fan of Proton’s products, but I think I’ll be sticking with Bitwarden Authenticator for the time being..Version: 1.1.0

Good AuthenticatorI’ve been using Authy for awhile so I was excited to see Proton released one which offers better privacy. Unfortunately I can import all my codes from Authy. Its a bummer having to do them all over one by one. The other improvement I would like to see is being able to organize them in the order I use them from most often to the least often. It’s new so hopefully Proton has more updates in the future. Would still recommend it. Keep it up Proton..Version: 1.3.0

FlakeyUnless Proton Authenticator is in slide over view or 1/3 screen Split View, it was only showing six entries, and searching for entries past the first six did not work (at least on iPad Pro 13). Today it seems to be working ok, so the app is flakey. Also, Proton Authenticator will backup codes to iCloud, but in order to enable the “Sync between devices” option, a Proton account is required. However, the iCloud “backup” *syncs* across devices, so if all your devices are Apple, then all your codes can be visible on all your devices. I went to Proton’s web site and it was not immediately evident how to file bugs there..Version: 1.1.3

Looks nice but a couple of functional flawsThe interface looks decent; import worked well; synching is working; BUT import created a few duplicates (not present in the source data); therefore there is no duplicate detection: and the display is ordered by time created, apparently—no way to sort by account or provider name, which would seem to be a most basic feature. Finally, there is no Export function: what’s labeled “Export” in setting is just a Proton-specific backup file, quite insecure. Room for improvement..Version: 1.1.0

PIN UnlockCould we get a PIN unlock for the desktop version. Would like to have some level of security yet not have to enter my password every time..Version: 1.1.0

Great to finally ditch Authy!I’ve been itching to get rid of Authy ever since they got rid of the desktop client. It’s clear they aren’t developing it anymore. This is a great start for Proton. All major platforms supported, free, cloud sync (with and without a Proton account), and love the “next” feature for codes. Add the ability to change icons, and I can’t think of much more!.Version: 1.0.0

Great!!Thrilled that you all added this!! I’ve been looking at Authenticator apps but couldn’t find one that had decent privacy & sync options— something that you all solved for in both cases. I use other Proton products so I kept checking in the hopes you would add one. Thank you!!.Version: 1.1.3

Wow. Saved me headaches and money!Works on Apple Watch which is awesome. And it’s free?! The set up was easy. They can even import QR codes from screenshot(s) if you save to the photo(s) library, if you have to use the same phone, because otherwise it gets tricky. Great UI. Thank you devs!.Version: 1.3.0

Nice and has potential…It’s been nice so far except that it randomly sorts my entries which is super annoying. I had them sorted alphabetically which is my preference. It sorted randomly, I sorted alphabetically, and then it sorted randomly again…argh 🤬 A sort option that is retained would be nice along with the ability to set a custom icon for those entries where it doesn’t pre-populate..Version: 1.1.0

Finally replaced AuthyThe desktop app with cross-device sync convinced me to switch. Authy had done away with their desktop app and I really wanted a solid replacement these last couple of years. Finally! And it has really good import capabilities too..Version: 1.1.0

Great TimingI was just searching for a new authenticator as Authy’s recent update completely wrecked it, my favorite for now is 2FAS but I could see this being a good contender after a few months when more features are added such as adjusting icons.Version: 1.1.0

DesktopThank you for offering a desktop app!! Works great!! Also, yes, I use mobile, but i use a desktop/laptop too and it's it's great to have a desktop option restored -- so long Authy! You abanonded me, now I can finally abandon you..Version: 1.3.0

No more googleI was widely unaware Proton offered an authenticator app. The app could use some beautification but it does work just as an authenticator should. I would also like a feature to sync everything to my proton email!.Version: 1.1.1

I love the appJust YESTERDAY I was seeing if proton had a 2nd app, in their proton password manager but this is just as good separate. The only problem I ran into was not prompting me to sign in first before adding 2fa in places, but other than that, it’s a great app..Version: 1.1.0

Look aheadShowing the upcoming number is a great feature! No more waiting for the roll when nearing the end of the time..Version: 1.0.0

A good start - Please sort alphabeticallyThis app is off to a good start and can import from nearly everywhere. The ordering of the services/codes seems random, and even when searching, it’s not alphabetical. It would be useful to make it sort alphabetically..Version: 1.1.0

Needs a shorter name on the Home ScreenApp seems decent enough to use. I certainly don’t mind it. But it’s annoying that the made the name so long that it gets truncated. This isn’t something I’d normally write a review about but I can’t figure out how to just send feedback..Version: 1.1.2

Cross-platform makes all the differenceThe fact that it can be used on a Mac, windows, linux, and mobile makes this seemingly perfect, at least for me..Version: 1.1.0

Much AppreciatedThis is a well-designed and much appreciated addition from Proton. Would like to see a non-Biometric login option in future updates..Version: 1.0.0

SuggestionApp looks nice, good progress. Would prefer the ability to set a different PIN for unlocking the app, similar to what the proton mail app’s ability is..Version: 1.1.4

New App but good! This app makes a lot of sense to get more brand awareness for Proton. It does seem like it is in its infancy though and I have not migrated over yet..Version: 1.1.2

Can not sync between devices on macOSCan not sync between devices on macOS, log into account with no response..Version: 1.1.1

Fantastic app!Allows you to easily import and export to other authenticators! Free yourself quickly from Google authenticator..Version: 1.0.0

Import featuresCool app, thanks for making it, love the import option, please add FreeOTP import support if possible, thanks.Version: 1.0.0

Promising but buggyCan’t login to sync between devices.Version: 1.0.0

Awesome 2FA app on multiple platformsWould be great if: (1) Have a native MacOS app. (2) Can choose to hide item’s icon (e.g., Netflix logo).Version: 1.1.0

GreatI have 48 2fa accounts. App lags a little on the main screen. Otherwise, fantastic..Version: 1.1.0

Works fineThis app works as any MFA app would but the downside is that it looks like it’s from 2005.Version: 1.1.0

The best 2FA appVisual design could be a little simpler, but I am glad Proton finally launched this..Version: 1.0.0

Missing AutofillIt’s missing autofill in iOS so I’m not sure why I’d migrate from another Authenticator or even Proton Pass which supports TOTP token management and autofill..Version: 1.3.0

UINeeds a way better ui.Version: 1.3.0

Proton, Par ExcellenceTeam Proton continues to produce digital masterpieces, protecting the fundamental right’s of Free Speech and Privacy. Deeply grateful for all things Proton..Version: 1.1.0

Great Google Alternative. This is a really great alternative to Google Authenticator..Version: 1.2.0

It is recommended to support ChineseOverall, it's good, but the language choice lacks Chinese..Version: 1.1.3
