Proton Authenticator Negative Reviews
V 1.1.3 not ready yet - deletes entriesDo not use v 1.1.3 this isn’t ready yet - deletes entries when you try to edit the entry name (title). No auto-sort, although one can drag the entries on macOS and edit in an account name in the Title. Syncs nicely with my proton account across all platforms and devices, but twice now on updating entry (editing) the title in macOS I got an error message and when I closed and re-opened the app it had deleted that entry entirely!! If I didn’t have a backup I could have been locked out of that account as it had already synced the deletion across devices..MNY2Version: 1.1.3
Import is buggyIf, like me, you prefer to keep all your data on device and not sync to any cloud accounts, beware that you will not be able to transfer your codes from an old device to a new device. The export to a file works well, but when importing that file, it will appear to have successfully imported, but as soon as you close the app your newly imported codes will be gone!.T7tpd9qPVersion: 1.3.0
Piece of garbageI switched to this piece of garbage about 6 months ago from Google Authenticator, only to find out that my codes have mysteriously disappeared. When I contacted their Zendesk support, they took a week to respond, only to ask me whether I still needed help. (Zendesk is a lame excuse of support. They are a useless cheap support that doesn’t really provide any real support).
Don’t risk your codes with this app!.Anoneem0usVersion: 1.3.0
Shockingly Poor QualityI can’t recommend this app on anything but iPhone. Works fine there. You can’t log in to connect to your Proton account on other devices because the 2FA input is broken. On my iPad, the screen strobes for about 5 seconds before you get the Touch ID prompt. Shockingly poor quality from Proton, hopefully no one with epilepsy tries to use this on their iPad..WhatdidmarksayVersion: 1.1.0
Multi device sync doesn’t workI have an existing Proton account. I imported all of my MFA codes on my iPad and successfully enabled multi device sync. Trying to enable on subsequent iOS devices puts me in a login loop. It’s not multi device if one cannot enable on multiple devices..JBHornerVersion: 1.1.0
BuggyWhile I like the idea the iOS app is very buggy. When scrolling there is clear tearing. And overall just feels a little clunky. Sticking with my current TOTP app until some of these issues can be worked out..Sil3nt0neVersion: 1.1.0
Can't backup codes to Proton DriveThe latest release says you have the ability to backup your codes to Proton Drive. However the last release of proton drive removes it from the Files app. There is no way to set your codes to backup on Proton Drive.............--------------Version: 1.4.1
Not working for importing google authenticatorUnfortunately not working for importing Google authenticator codes: menu drops out after hitting import and- nothing!
App looks and feels lovely to use but I just wish the import from this particular other authenticator would work seamlessly!.AeroDuckoVersion: 1.3.2
CodesI’m setting up/entering the 2fa codes but it’s giving the wrong numbers so it doesn’t work.RockTheSlayer on youtubeVersion: 1.3.2
Disaster — and not secureNOTE: As of 1.1.2, the biometric lock (i.e. Touch ID) feature *does not work* on Mac. Regardless of how many times you enable it, it does not as you for a fingerprint on startup — anyone at your computer can get into your codes; you cannot trust this app to protect your codes biometrically on Mac.
Account login fails every time I try. No number of reboots or force-quits will fix it. Version 1.1.3 claims to fix this, but it doesn’t — if you exit the app, it logs you back out.
It’s like the Authenticator team has zero QA.
I also am now getting duplicate entries for an existing account, out of nowhere. The entries have different codes, so I don’t know which to use.
The app also had horrible flickering problems before the recent fix — a “fix” that broke the feature entirely.
This app is very, very buggy. I regret switching some of my 2FA codes over to it, and wish I had stayed with Authy — and I’m a big-time Proton advocate and long-time paying customer.
I would advise waiting until they’ve had a month or two to get it ready for release.
This is a beta at best..SteamyDinkinsVersion: 1.1.3
