A beautiful, intuitive, and inclusive new experienceI work in the digital product design and development space. I am a harsh critic on user experiences in my day-to-day apps. Never have I opened an app that recently had a new version released and been as pleasantly surprised as I was today when I went to order my lunch. (I was actually so happy with my experience that I tweeted about this as well.) The experience really speaks for itself — intuitive it is and it’s beautiful design and innovation for a mobile ordering app. I would like to call out how refreshing it is to see the inclusivity and integrity of a company shown through their user experience. The simple (and not hidden!) pop up to offer the user the option to either SHOW or HIDE calorie information is so inclusive of and sensitive to those with sensitivities around calorie counting. Finally an ordering app easy to useI was pleasantly surprised when I placed my order today using this app. Usually, customizations are a hassle to communicate when placing food orders, but not here.
I quickly learned that each of the selection buttons will toggle between options for that specific item. I.e. I initially chose the spicy chicken protein for my pita wrap. After reconsideration, I wanted to switch to the the grilled chicken with less bite to it. I pressed the grilled chicken button and instead of completely removing the spicy chicken, it read “1/2” over the grilled and “1/2” over the spicy. Perfect! Press the button again and it toggled to choose just the grilled chicken.
It was the same with the sauces. Press it one time to get a single amount and twice to get extra. Very simple to use - a lot simpler than trying to understanding what I just attempted to describe.

Basic and needs improvementThe apps layout is easy to understand and simple to use if your just looking to preorder your food. If your trying to manage your calorie intake and track the nutrition information then the app is basically useless for these two purposes.
For starters the calorie estimates are off by a few hundred calories at the least. One of their standard meals (without ANY edits) comes out significantly higher in calories when the individual ingredients calories are added up separately. Also there is no sign of a meals nutrition information whats so ever. It would be nice to have a overview like the chick-fil-a app gives you of the calories, adjustments and overall information.
This is either a relatively new app, this a work in progress, or cava is not putting in half the effort other companies are with the food ordering apps. Love the food and would love to eat it more but I’d need a reliable platform to change me from an occasional user to using it 3 to 4 times a week because accounting for their mistakes takes too much time..Dleo26Version: 3.0.8

Suspiciously too quickMade an order two minutes later I’m getting a text. It is ready. I thought it was kind of suspicious that it was done that quick. I tried thinking positively and maybe they have no customers at the time which is still possible, but when I went to pick up my order, I checked, and my food was cold and my pita. Good but could use improvementI love CAVA and the app is super convenient and useful. I would like to be able to do grains AND salad as well as add more dressings and can’t do that. I also wish I could change my pick up time after I submit it. I accidentally put in a time I couldn’t make and I couldn’t change the time or the order from pick up to delivery. Also their phones were down so if there was a way to add commentary to my order after I submit it and it can be flagged on some screen for them to see that would be really great. Other than these I can’t think of any fixes. Good but not there yetThere’s lots of things that could be fixed. Number one : why is the layout formatted so I can only see items at the bottom? It’s annoying to “side scroll” when all you had to do was list all the items on one page , ya know like a book? Or a website ? Then we could scroll down and select accordingly. Want to love it but...When it works, then great. But lately I can’t enter a pickup time. I have to keep exiting and reopening and reordering then deleting the previous order...what a mess. At this moment I have tried several times and can’t get my order in.
Also, this app cost me 13 bucks of wasted money, which has never happened to me before. I’m used to apps that let you reorder. They always ask you where to pick up. This one didn’t. I placed a reorder and it never asked where to pick up from. Once I placed it I saw that it was a different city not nearby.

AmazingThe staff, the food! I don’t know which is more amazing! I struggle through because I like the foodThe app is soooo slow to respond. It’s unintuitive in starting a new order and accessing favorites. Choosing ingredients is painful—sometimes you want extra of something. Adding rewards is also unintuitive. Makes you add the item to your cart first, and then apply the coupon. How about when I try to use the coupon, you add it to the cart? There are solutions here that a little user testing would reveal. Unable to Remove ItemsIn using the current version today, I was unable to remove items from my order. I would tap remove, the three dots would oscillate and then go away with the order unchanged. After logging out, deleting the app, and logging in again, I was finally able to remove the items but it still took multiple attempts. There’s no way to reorderThere is a function to reorder, and you’ll see the items in your cart, but there’s no way to modify them or even to check out. I had to go to the website to place my order. Great food, clunky appThe food is fresh and tasty, but most of my gripes and star rating is about the app. Ordering food is very clunky with horizontal scrolling through options vs vertical scroll. Customizing bowls is limited to the specific bowl you select and requires restarting.
Example - pre saved greens and grains bowl, I wanted no rice and greens only, It required a rice/lentil option and I could not submit. Cancelled and selected salad bowl, filled it out and it said salad bowl not available at this location. Okay…then selected steak power bowl, removed everything and was able to add greens without grains. Remarkable Interface!After using apps like Five Guys, Chilis, and Chipotle, my bar for ordering food on apps was quite low. However, this app blew me away!! Ya’ll Messed UpThe app was a little janky to begin with but at least I was able to get an order in. Since the newest update, I do not know what ya’ll did to this app but you messed up. No birthday rewardThe food here is delicious and I get it often at work but recently I had a bad experience with the app. Several of my coworkers received a special reward on their birthday for a discount on their meal. I was excited as my birthday was coming up, and I worked that day, and I was excited to get Cava with my reward. Nonetheless, my birthday came and passed and I never received any reward on the app or an email for a coupon or anything. I have 100% created my profile and saved my birthday in the app. So I went into the Cava store to ask the lady working there if I have to have the app for a certain amount of time before I am eligible for a reward and she said no. So, according to the lady in the store, I should have received a reward, although I did it, so it seems like they give some customers rewards on their birthday and not others, which is very wrong. You should treat all your customers equally and offer the same reward. The lady in the store was very nice. She told me that I should have received a reward and she doesn’t know why I didn’t. Go back to the prior versionI’ve been using the Cava app since they first came on the scene. Gave them a lot of credit for creating an app that had the user experience in mind. Don’t know why they had to change it to something that’s not as well designed. First, before they would take you through each step of the build a bowl process. Now, you scroll through all the options at once and often have to go back and forth bc the images are smaller and move too quickly. Fixing it at each step is more appropriate so the user knows what to do at each step. Also, the nonsense at the top is hard to read. Lastly, the calorie counts across the app, the online ordering system (which uses the old UX and is grt) and the nutrition calc are all different so if you are counting calories and sticking to a calorie budget good luck w that. Do not likeI hate this app. And it’s no reflection on the food and service at cava, which is great. You cannot edit/modify ANY changes to your order once it’s placed (and if you try to call, their phones always go straight to their full voicemail, you won’t get anyone). There’s no room to write notes. If I’m placing an order on the app, it’s obviously carry out. So I feel like the sauces on the side should be automatic for app orders, or at least have an option to select that. I don’t want my food getting soggy by the dressing on my way back to work/home etc.
The “order now” button is in a super inconvenient spot, which you will sometimes hit before you’re ready to. I’m pretty sure that’s designed on purpose though… but there really should be a “confirm” option, or at least an option to change the pickup time. First order; insane amount of mistakesUsually love Cava, downloaded the app and ordered a bowl with very few customizations. This was my first online order and was looking forward to picking up food before the location closed for the night. Took my meal with my name and label on it, got home, and the bowl is an entirely different order inside. The only like-elements were corn as a filling and yogurt as a sauce; 5/6 fillings, both proteins, and a sauce were different than I ordered and it was apparent a different order was slapped with my name. I paid extra for ingredients I didn’t receive, and this order contained a protein I’m allergic to and cheese that I can’t eat (lactose intolerant). Was so bummed since I couldn’t eat the bowl a& the location had closed, contacted the help/customer support line twice (with attached photos of the order receipt and bowl in same image) and support has never gotten back to me. Awful update - bad UX designI used to be able to make an order quickly and know what I was ordering. This new update is frustrating. I don’t want to write a story with my order... it used to give info about what was in each option too and now we’ve got no info, no insight into how many choices before it charges extra (until you’ve clicked enough, but knowing how many you get informs the decision). And, the options/images are tiny. We were also unable to figure out how to add our names to each order.
I understand why they would want to ‘streamline’ it like they did, but this took way longer to place our orders with than it should’ve. I’m sure we’ll eventually get used to using this interface, but it’s not an app we want to spend a lot of time using... it doesn’t serve the user any function in making it look nicer, it should be easy, fast, functional, intuitive, and informative.

Excellent food, terrible app.When ordering food, the checkout tab frequently does not save changes. Items I delete will reappear, orders that are renamed will revert back to their default settings. I will select a valid time slot for pickup only for the app to tell me that slot has been filled...but then I literally pick the same exact time slot and suddenly no issues. But because I had to leave the checkout screen to reselect the same exact pickup time...yep, you guessed it, everything has to be redone, orders have to be re-edited or added or deleted because nothing was saved. And despite the fact that I have been using the app for several months, most of my order history during that time has been wiped.
Cava is a great restaurant, but they need some serious help in developing apps. I don’t expect perfection, I just expect it to remember the data I inputted only 30 seconds ago and not dump everything just because I had to change tabs for a moment..KingRiegzVersion: 3.0.0
So close but lots of bugs and annoying featuresYes, it is beautiful, and visually intuitive only FOR THE PROCESS OF CREATING YOUR MEAL/BOWL. But finding your cart/bag? Knowing what to click when you're finished creating or editing a meal (bowl)? No.
Not to mention, the annoying haptic feedback (buzz) not only every time you add an ingredient to your bowl, but also when you even touch the screen to scroll through meal options in the first place, even when something is NOT being added or even "clicked on" to modify-- basically this app buzzes almost no matter what you touch, without regard to whether you're selecting it.
And adding a credit card causes a glitch-- I entered new card info and got an error message that it wasn't valid. I clicked to dismiss the message in order to fix it (the only option), and was kept in a perpetual loop of "loading" dots. Had to close the app and reopen it several times until I figured out the problem with my info. (My last name is hyphenated, the last name on my card is not-- bank removed the hyphen-- but when I entered the "name on card" it wasn't what they were looking for, even though it was the actual name on the card. That isn't Cava's fault per se, but again-- the whole app froze up when there was an error in entering cc info.)
After all that, I finally went to place my order and it told me-- AFTER I had pressed to pay with my new card-- that I had to select a new time for pickup. Of course, because it had been 13 minutes trying to place literally a repeat order!

Charged without sending order to restaurant, customer service is no helpI placed an order with Apple Pay and, despite not being prompted, was apparently not logged into the app. When I arrived, the staff had no record of the order, even though I showed them the screen showing my order. I’m glad I took a screenshot of that page — when I signed in to report the problem to customer service, the order erased from the record (but not the $30+ charge on my card). When I reported this to their customer service (complete with the above photos), the Cava rep stated that they could “kindly confirm there was no order received from you,” despite me providing a screenshot of the order. All follow-up emails from me providing more information (which they requested) have since been ignored, and the fee has not been refunded. Disappointed TodayFood always tastes delicious, however service was lacking. I placed an order for pickup. Firstly it was over 10 minutes late from the time estimated. Not such a big deal. But upon grabbing my order and checking it, the meal was missing SEVERAL of the ingredients I asked for. I waited an additional 5-6 minutes for someone to acknowledge me. When I informed her of the situation, she rudely responds “Whatever is missing, we don’t have,” and walks off. App is TerribleThis app needs a lot of help. Quite often it doesn’t work at all. But then the user interface is not good. You start off with the splash screen that offers you the ability to add a previous order item which once you figure out that the clock icon means a previous order you’re good, but it’s not obvious that the clock means a previous order. However, if you get to the splash screen and instead hit the start new order button, the clock with your previous orders disappears, and you no longer have the ability to select previous orders. Let’s say you’re ordering for two people and one person wants a previous order and the other person doesn’t if you choose a previous order and it’s added to your bag you can’t now just start another menu item. It would be great if it actually worked…I’ve had this app downloaded for 4 months and have not once been able to successfully use it. For awhile, we’d get all the way to payment and then get an error asking us to try again. We’d do so and then it would tell us to just call the restaurant. Despite changing credit cards out and trying to shut down the app and restart we had this problem persist.
Today I logged on, added my first meal to the bag, selected that I wanted to add another one, and then got stuck on a screen with with only drinks and sides displaying. Despite trying to exit back to the main menu, I’m stuck on a menu selector page with only some of the menu.

Not responsive to order statusThe app performs well and has a nice UI. But most large chain mobile apps have all got that nailed down. Something that is severely lacking in CAVA’s app is a view of order status. After placing your order, there’s no way to view the status of your order. Their competitor, Chipotle, does have such feature.
Both places have unusual delays. For example, me and a several people waited 45 minutes (no exaggeration) after our expected time. But that’s not an app problem. I don’t mind waiting if you just keep me informed and don’t give me inaccurate expectations. Allow stores to update progress of an order.

Bad UX for great foodI work in the mobile software space for quick serve restaurants. This app is visually beautiful but functionally awful. Using icons for the ingredients is visually attractive but not intuitive as the icons are too small to decipher.
There is no menu browse feature, the app dumps you right into ordering. Rewards System ScamTo the starting of 2024 I had downloaded the cava app. Everything was fine and worked very smoothly and I never had an issue when using it to order online. The reason why I’m leaving a one star review is because I had thousands of reward points saved, and I went to redeem them through cavas rewards program on the app and used some of the points, but not all of them and then they flagged my account shadow banned my account for no reason. I was unable to sign in to my account for the next couple of weeks and reached out to customer support to see if I could get my account back and I didn’t hear a response until 2 weeks later from messaging them. They were extremely rude and gave me an email address to contact. I strongly suggest that you don’t order using this app as there is no support if there is a problem. I did email them and the auto response did indicate that there is no phone number and that you should contact the store if there is a problem (and of course the store says that they can’t help and they give you an email). Not PleasedPlaced a to go order on app. Made 2 stops before arriving and still had to wait 30 minutes for my order. There were several other people waiting for their to go orders when I arrived as well and they were not happy either. Meanwhile other customers who walked in were being served with no wait. I would have been better off just coming in and going through the line but was trying to avoid having to bring kids in to wait. No one from the staff was rude but no one went out of their way to accommodate the several customers patiently waiting for their to go orders either or even apologize for the unexplained wait. Editing an order is horrible.I can’t tell which lettuce is selected for example because everything is a tiny thumbnail now. This made ordering much harder than the previous app layout with “pages” of selections. You don’t get order confirmation in app anymore. Nor do you get a confirmation at the end before it charges you. You select the time slot in the beginning rather than at the end. So if you take too long to build an order in the slow navigation you lose your slot.
Ugh. Put the classic layout back in as an accessibility option because I’m having a hard time with this. You also used to be able to name your entrees per person. Not anymore. Terrible User ExperienceThe user experience (UX) is not intuitive. I wanted to custom order a bowl and the UX displays a selection of standard bowls (e.g., Lentil Avocado, Tahini Caesar, etc.) and be titled “salad”. I selected salad and it wasn’t clear what kind of greens were in the bowl. I then picked Greek salad and saw that some of the greens, toppings, etc were circled, indicating they were included. I didn’t want olives, so I touched the circle, thinking it would remove the olives. Guess what, it doubled the olives. I then saw I could delete items at the top of the screen. There are many other issues with UX, too.

Update is horribleHad really enjoyed the previous version of the app as it was really simple and user- friendly. The latest update to the app is horrible. It’s like you knew all the features I liked and took them away. I liked the large menu icons that stayed circled as you selected so you could easily scroll up and down to verify what was selected-now it adds these tiny little icons in a dialogue list and I can hardly tell what they are to check my order as I go. I especially appreciated being able to add a name to each item, because it all looks pretty similar once the bowl arrives and may only be a difference of an item or two—-now we have no idea who’s is who’s. Where is the check mark for the free pita? Where is the plain kids meal?

Unfortunately UselessThis App would be fine if Cava could have some quality control at their locations. We’ve had missing parts of our order over 1/2 the time. Either missing toppings, no toppings, missing kids drinks, etc. On top of this, the food is rarely ready 15-30 minutes AFTER the designated pickup time. It is literally 20 minutes faster and much more accurate to just drive there and place the order in person. Today was the last straw- they forgot toppings, and remembered the milk, but I watched as they pulled it from a non- refrigerated bucket. I will not feed my child milk that doesn’t smell right after being pulled from a warm bucket.

The app itselfHi! I have eaten at your restaurant one other time. I set up the account and was able to order and everything was smooth. I logged back on today and used the original password. The app didn’t accept me. So I created a new password. But it took three tries to try to navigate through the system. It also just defaulted to 12:15 for my pickup. But it wasn’t its own step to put the time in. Like I had to scroll back up and recognize it and remember myself. It doesn’t let you do that on its own screen. I realize I’m not young, but I do use several apps. I just wanted you guys to know that I didn’t think it was very easy to nav agate. No way to enter receipt info to get missed pointsIf you have a restaurant that does not scan, or the app doesn’t work – – as happened to me – – there is no way in the app to enter the receipt information and have it add the points manually. Instead, you have to deal with emailing their very terrible customer service, who will demand the same information multiple times over email, because for whatever reason they don’t want to give you $11 worth of points and are too disorganized to see what’s already been submitted. One should be able to enter the order ID, store and date to pull up the receipt in the app and get points…like other stores do. Email is an absurdly old-fashioned way to deal with it. If they tried to fail, they’ve succeededFor more than a year, there are have redesigns and fixes that seemed to have done little to improve this apps usefulness, or even its ability to function. Want to reorder your usual? Get ready for the app to reboot. Want to autofill your login credentials from a password manager? Good luck. Would you like an order flow and UI design that makes sense? Well, the best they can do is big, bright pictures….usefulness must be planned to launch in a future update. Want to reorder the same thing you had before, but at a different location? Tough luck.

No method for logging complaintsOrdered using the app as directed - requested delivery as they offered it and ended up getting my food 20 minutes later from a CAVA farther I didn’t order from with the doordasher (they route for you I guess?) calling me not once, but twice to tell me that my address was wrong, despite having the correct address everywhere I looked. Went to my doordash account to see if it’s logged there so I can’t complain to them. No history or record to check within the app, so I can’t report this anywhere else. Only way to complain is by EMAIL, which in 2022 delivery standards, is absolutely ancient. App needed to add a record of orders and an internal complaint system before launching. Love the food, hate the appThis app is so slow that it takes me about five minutes to place an order. Hear me out. I know what I want, I’m pressing the buttons, but there is such a lag between every addition or subtraction from the cart that I’m just waiting for everything to constantly load. It’s not very intuitive for the user as I have to constantly come out of my current order to go add my previous favorites. Why is that not easily accessible from the ordering platform? Update but still 1 star. They did fix the side pita issue but the overall experience is still frustrating compared to previous versions. I have to go to checkout to review my order because the tiny pictures are annoying. Also it’s not easy to order sides, have to slide through many screens to get there. Bad to worseThe old version was extremely difficult to re-order from a previous order, the new version says you can re-order from a previous order; however, in the new version that link does not work at all.
When re-ordering in the old version, if one item was not available the app would say there was a problem with the order but it would not say what the problem was (i.e. a particular item was not available at that time). Then you had to restart the order from scratch. Fortunately that problem was eliminated; because you just can’t re-order what you had last time. (?!)

App from HellI feel like this app was designed to punish me. I had used it before and it worked marvelously. Today I tried four separate times to order the same meal. Every time I switch between apps, the app glitches and I need to wait. When it’s finally ready, it pretends like my order is recognized, but when I hit checkout, it goes blank again. I wait yet again, and have to re-log in with my email and password. When I get to checkout and hit add a bag, it cancels my order. When I skip that step, and just checkout, it says I have no order.
