Excellent for what it doesWhen thinking of all the holidays and the question “Which holiday do I want my Hue lights to behave irrationally on their own?” Halloween becomes the only recurring holiday. Memorial Day, Labor Day, and 4th of July I believe come in as a close second to Halloween if you are looking to bathe your home in Red, White, and Blue. But you can’t blame ghosts for your choice of Reds, Whites, and Blues everywhere in your home, your tailer, or your in-laws trailer. - Halloween and the ghosts changing the lights. - Halloween and the guy in the secret room below the basement who’s drawing power from the lights. - Halloween and the witches, who’s mobile phones changed the lighting, they are on their way to the house so hide. Spooky FUN!I never used to be into Halloween. Then I got this App to utilize my Hue lights and now I can't resist expanding my decorating every year. I've been using this app to great effect for the past 3 Halloweens. We always get lots of compliments from trick-or-treaters and friends and my two toddlers LOVE playing with the spooky sounds/controlling the lights on the iPad app! It's a fun party trick for friends as well. Hooking it up to a Hue motion sensor works perfectly to trigger spooky sounds right as people approach the house. One warning: start with a fully charged phone and keep it plugged in, since it will drain the battery like crazy. I recommend using the headphone audio jack to sync audio to the lights perfectly, if possible. One of Hue's updates for the bridge nearly broke the app for Halloween 2018. I was SO happy when the developer fixed the compatibility update in a June 2019! I'm really looking forward to using this again next year. I've bought other apps/add-ons for this App from the developer and would have happily paid much more for this App because of how FUN it is..D-llamaVersion: 2.2

Perfectly Scary FunSynced effortlessly. Easy intuitive controls. Sounds and light effects are great. For a $2 app, it's everything I had wanted and hoped for. So much fun. Halloween will be so much more interesting this year. We have 10 hue bulbs. This app can put them all through so much more variations than I can on my own. The sounds are Bluetoothed to a remote speaker for that added scary fun impact. Set it on "continuous" and then it's all set. The problem I see is that unlike the Christmas and New Years apps, this one doesn't sync to a user selectable song. Even if it did, the Christmas and New Years versions are EXTREMELY unpredictable as to the song the app will play. So much fun!I have been having so much fun with this app. Just added a motion sensor to ramp up the fun when the kids come knocking. I have 50 hue lights in total inside and outside our house and whole house audio in every room and outside. This app works flawlessly every time we use it. I just run it through one of our iPads on a charging dock and let it go. Can’t wait to see what additional features the app developers come up with over time. Good, but not very customizableThe concept is great and the new update adds a lot of needed control, however it would be nice to more controls like mood color selection, the option to not have moods change light colors (only the effects), and mood brightness. I'm unable to use the mood's audio I like best because the lights change and it doesn't work well with the effects. The main reason I'm giving this 3 stars, is because I had to pay again to get the new effects. I don't think we should have to pay to get updates. Great hue companion app!This marks three years for me with Hue Halloween but my first year in my new home. Previously, I used one hue bulb and this app and the kids loved it on my front porch! This is the biggest update for this app since I've had it. I love how it now can auto play and sync with the hue motion sensor! My new home has three recessed lights on the front porch so I outfitted them with hue flood lights. This app, the lights, and sound effects are fantastic! I place a Bluetooth speaker out of sight. Way better than 2 more dollars of candyJust hook you phone to your stereo, hard wired or with Airplay. And you will have so much fun with the flashing lights effects and sound effects. The app gives you spooky background music, and buttons to activate each different effect. It works great but I do have a wish list throw a specific effect to a specific light. or to more than one light in a specific order. That being said its a great app that will greatly improve your halloween. Well done guys. I just wish I needed to scare people more than one day a year. Fantastic updateI'm not one to review apps, but this is an extremely significant update. I'm hoping the Christmas app sees a similar update over the next few months. Great for Spooky HalloweenWe set this app up to light up our front porch this Halloween and hooked it up to an iPad/speakers. Our kids love it and it's an awesome addition to our outdoor decorations. Perfect for trick-or-treaters!I was very glad to see that some other reviewers requests are in fact already in the software... It plays scary mood music (or it also works with my own Halloween playlists in the background) AND has a mode where it will automatically shuffle through all the effects unattended. Just awesomeI have a garage door with Opaque glass - and I have set up two Hue lights behind it, and this app powering a Bose speaker - it is AWESOME!!!! the garage looks and sounds haunted and possessed - it’s the hit of the neighborhood. Hue Halloween iPad Bridge Loses ConnectionI love this app when it is working. When run off my iPad2 and iPad mini it loses the connection to the bridge all the time. My iPhone 6 seems to keep the connection. This app is pretty cool when working properly. I have it run with a bluetooth speaker outside and a hue in my lamp post. Didn’t completely scare trick-or-treaters awayI tried this out Halloween 2017 in a last minute attempt to decorate for trick-or-treaters. I had a speaker outside playing effects and turned off all non-Hue lights at our house (we have a lot of Hue lights). The sound effects times to the lights were super spooky. We could see as kids were approaching and played lots of the effects over the mood. Drains battery like crazyThis update is horrible. Even after plugging in my iPhone, this app drained its battery from 85% to 0% in about 2 hours of use. I didn't know that was even physically possible while plugged in! Battery usage in the Settings app confirms Huelloween used over 58% of my battery in the last 24 hours. Amazing! The developer of this app must be a horrible programmer. My only guess is that the new Auto Play mode is implemented using a tight loop that checks the time every iteration to see if it needs to play an effect. This is astoundingly bad practice, and anyone with more than a month's programming experience knows to use timers for this.
