Vivint App Comments & Reviews

Vivint Positive Reviews

Equipment ages out, upgrade requires 5 year contract + double monthly rateWe’ve had Vivint for over a decade at 2 separate houses. We have recommended Vivint to countless family members, friends & acquaintances. We sold one house and recommended Vivint to the buyer. He asked if we would leave the equipment behind because he was interested. We did. Within the last 3 years our equipment in our home as well as the panel have failed and been swapped out numerous times. I looked at upgrading. Mind you, we only have 4 indoor cameras and an intermittent doorbell. Upgrade was over a grand…. But I had to sign a 5 year contract AND my monthly rate would double. A tech came out on a trouble call, swapped a camera we were having problems with and added a doorbell, at no charge, because we’ve been with them so long. Our tech Cole Tucker is AMAZING. At least there’s that. Thank you, Cole. If not for you and your outstanding repairs, I don’t think I’d be writing this review. I love Vivint, but there are so many home security systems out there now. If I could maintain my current monthly rate and get a reliable panel & equipment, they’d easily have our commitment for another decade. So long as our equipment keeps doing what it’s supposed to do, we will continue our business with Vivint. If something gets phased out, like the panel, and I’m forced to replace it, then I’ll start shipping around. If you’re on the fence with a security company, Vivint is top notch and responds immediately to alarms and alerts Law Enforcement. I know we, as well as our home and belongings, are protected with Vivint..Version: 23.10.500

Amazing AppGreat App! It’s hard to talk about the app without talking about the security system itself since the app is only useful if you own the security system. It’s all amazing. My wife and I swapped over from ADT and Vivint is 1,000,000X better in every way! The biggest thing being the system doesn’t rely on wifi like ADT does but rather two separate cell phone towers so both companies (Verizon and AT&T) need to go down before the system finally relies on your wifi so that’s a huge relief considering ADT only relies on WiFi so if someone cuts your cable outside your house, you’re screwed. The app itself is amazing with the system. Everything is so easy to control and navigate. The ONLY thing I have a bit of trouble with is the shortcuts. Basically you can program shortcuts within the app that, when you activate the shortcut, it can cause your system to do multiple things at once. For example I programmed one that, when activated, will disarm my system, unlock my garage door deadbolt, and open my main garage door where I park my car. I programmed a few more too, but I have yet to see any of them effectively work. They don’t always work the best, but honestly it’s such a small thing that it doesn’t bother me at all. Honestly, that being the only issue, I give it an 11/10. Would highly recommend!.Version: 25.10.200

The dashboard could be more useful.I have been using the app now for a week and found some annoyances. Mainly in the dashboard. I feel like it could be more customizable. I would like to have the option of the dashboard returning back to the security screen when I open the app every time, or any specific screen the customer would want to see when they open the app. Secondly, the security screen should have the option to add light/ room switches to the security screen for ease of use. I have ten Phillips bulbs in six rooms and this app does not make me want to go to it to operate those switches. Which doesn’t really make this the smart home controller that I was sold on. Third, I believe camera notifications for people detection should have a link to the video recording. Makes no sense to read the notification and then have to go somewhere else in the app to see the video. Lastly, the administration portion of the app does not work well. Initially when setting up the camera to my specifications, the app would pop up errors of configuration failed, but when setting it up on the panel, there was no issues. Fortunately, I now have it setup to my liking. For a lesser tech savvy person, I could see this as ver frustrating. I understand the connections between admin trough the internet and admin through Zwave, but not all users are tech savvy. And I also understand that there is tech support that can be called, but why should I need them if the product was simpler to use?.Version: 20.7.401

Works ehThe app is eh, I’m giving it a 3/5 stars, but a 5 star because I know this review will go up for people to actually see this. it works decently but for the price we are paying for all of our equipment you’d expect a pretty well/ finished app. The cameras take a long time to load, at first I thought it was my WiFi but it’s not since I have 2 gigabit WiFi. And the smart hub is right next to it as-well. When you rewind the footage and pause it and try to zoom in, it automatically resumes footage. The hold to talk button 5 times out of ten doesn’t work and is unavailable. Lastly probably one of my biggest concerns is you can take a photo ONLY on live view and it ONLY 4K upscales when you zoom in on live, you cannot do either when you rewind footage. This is concerning to the fact that if something happens and someone vandalize something, we won’t be able to pick up plates from how bad the footage on these cameras are. This review I know is just for the app but for someone out there is considering Vivent, do not talk to a door to door guy, talk to an installer because they are the ones who actually know how these systems work, we got fed a bunch of lies saying that these cameras are 4K in resolution, that they have a ai chip (installer said they are new and don’t really work well until updates go by), that the install would be tied to the outlet hardwired (they are just outlets being used), there are many issues I am dealing with including install charges when we were told that it was for free. But I will leave it here and hopefully this will help someone’s decision considering I spend over 5k on equipment and I am not happy.Version: 25.3.300

My front door hasn’t worked since it was installed!!I have called about the problem with my front door and been on the phone for over an hour and they even said they were doing an update that would fix the problem! It does not work!! I used to have to set the alarm leaving at panel and bypass front door? I think was what it said!! Eventually it quit saying that!! The alarm would go off at 4 or 5 Am while I was asleep and scare me to death!! It was just the door ajar it was saying!! It never worked when it was first installed! The nice man that installed it called up someone while he was installing it!, and they just decided to have me bypass it! Well, I can now come in my front door and no alarm goes off!! So, I’m assuming anyone can just come in my home and I wouldn’t know it!! This has been reported by me more than 10 times! Usually when a false alarm was going off! They don’t even happen anymore!! I hate the support or lack of support I am receiving from Vivint! I do not feel any safer at all! I feel like I was ripped off! The equipment prices are outrageous!! I’m very disappointed with this system! I’ve had others! Also the batteries don’t last long at all’ I bought the rechargeable ones only to learn they don’t even work on this system!! Also I lost power during the ice storm and was without any security to my home!!! Other systems have backup power packs! That was another poor feature I found out about!! I just wish I could get my front door to work!! Is that too much to ask?? Obviously so!! I’ve asked for a person to come out to my home, but just get told to speak to the tech people!! They are no help!! Very disappointed, Liz Tilley.Version: 21.5.500

Great design, great concept, great execution!!!The app itself is very useful and comes in handy all the time. I have the smart lock, the smart doorbell, and 2 cameras and they work perfectly. The cameras give me good quality pictures and video plus there is less than a 1 second delay with the live video when monitoring from my phone. The motion-activated sensor on the doorbell works very well during the day, evening, or night even when the front porch light is off. The microphone and speaker on the doorbell makes it easy and safe to communicate with people I don’t know who approach my door. If I see someone trying to break in from the camera, it gives me the option to take a live picture from my phone and it automatically records movement picked up by the cameras. The app gives me notifications without delay for everything that happens inside and around my home whether it’s the doorbell being rung, the door being opened, motion from the cameras, my alarm system being armed and disarmed, or even my door being locked and unlocked. They really thought of everything to give you the maximum protection against threats or otherwise. I highly recommend Vivint for your home security and the Vivint app for easy access and extra insurance for the security of your home and the people you live with. (P.S. the alarm noise is REALLY, REALLY LOUD!!).Version: 18.6.100

HorribleI regret choosing Vivint over my previous Brinks system. From the start, this has been an incredibly disappointing and expensive experience. I purchased two thermostats, a doorbell camera, two exterior cameras, an additional keypad for the upstairs, to replace my Brinks panel and a front door keypad lock to replace my - unfortunately, this has proven to be a poor decision. The keypad battery in my master bedroom constantly dies; I’ve had to replace the batteries twice in the last 12 months. One of the thermostats frequently falls off the wall. My doorbell no longer rings or sends notifications through the app when pressed, and my front door keypad lock has had recurring issues. The door never unlocks or locks via the app, and the batteries have needed replacement twice in a year. I purchased the keypad lock specifically for its app functionality, yet the app has never worked properly, making this purchase completely pointless. Throughout the installation process, I repeatedly raised these issues, and Vivint continued sending technicians who seemed unable to resolve them effectively. Despite multiple service calls, these problems persist. As a single mother and widow, I feel misled and taken advantage of in purchasing this system, which has never worked as promised..Version: 24.10.400

Old houseI don’t usually write reviews on things. But I wanted to put it out there. Sales guy came to my door and we said we had to think so he came back the next day and decided to make the switch to them. They were here until 2 am installing everything but then had to come back 3 different times to figure out wiring. I was not that impressed. They state there price only goes down however what they don’t tell you is your taking out a line of credit in your name for the equipment . it is not part of the bill at all so you get “charged” twice a month. They state you do not have to pay for the equipment however that’s what the line of credit is for. Also I told the sales guy I did not want a thermostat he insisted that I have it .. we got it installed and my ac/furnace is only a year old and came with its own thermostat. When they installed Vivint thermostat they messed up the wires and my ac is now messed up and there is nothing any company can do. I had my ac company put on the original thermostat that came with it and now I’m paying for a piece of equipment I no longer use. In all I’m happy with the security system. However lately my cameras have been glitching and when I go back to rewatch what happened over the night I can not and it just looks like a picture. Not saying all this will happen to you however it happened to me so I would just like people aware.Version: 23.9.100

Recording delays and 30 seconds videos and merchandise trouble onlyVivint has recording delays, when I try to respond to the doorbell it takes a long time to activate so I can speak to the person waiting at the door. Many times they are gone by the time it allows my to respond. I am disabled customer and it was supposed to be a tool to make it easy. I have repeatedly asked Vivint to correct the problem for the last two and a half year and they keep saying it’s an Internet issue. So we corrected that problem by upgrading our service with the Internet provider to the best on the market and still have the same problem. We also have a similar problem with the recording outside we’ve had issues that has incidents that have happened outside and it has never recorded the urgent matters due to it only recorded 30 seconds each film. And barely get proper content. The door lock has been replaced twice and it was extremely difficult to make the Vivint provider(s)understand the importance of the service. At times I was over one hour trying to follow instructions to fix the issues my self and then they changed the representative and I had to begin all over again. This happened a lot. We are almost done paying for all the equipment that also has giving us troubles. We unfortunately are not too happy. We have given Vivint enough money and years to correct the issues. With no avail. Customer service is only a chat service and it’s never clear with instructions. It would be nice if they upgrade their service to make a almost 3 years paying customer happy. My family and friends changed their service to other providers and I have seen a big difference in service. We have never received any update or follow ups. We are considering canceling very soon..Version: 22.5.500

Expensive service with poor qualityVivint is an expensive monthly service that sells itself as a home security system. However, in my experience the security aspect is lacking as I frequently have issues with the app being able to remotely connect to my security system and address issues or inspect potentially suspicious behavior in my home’s vicinity. As an example I am currently unable, despite numerous attempts, to disarm my system. Not long ago I had the opposite where I couldn’t arm the system. Anything that requires a connection with their servers often has failures. Which brings me to complaint two: the app is unable to function without server connection despite being on my home WiFi network. I cannot control my local devices on an operational WAN if their services are down. Absolutely inexcusable for a security system. This is the exact opposite approach they should be taking and I’ve spoken to them about this numerous times over the last half decade. Lastly the app: users have been requesting dark mode support since Apple introduced the feature, well they finally did in early 2026, 5 years after Apple introduced the feature. But don’t worry, Vivint is happy to update the app with more pop ups and ads to sell you more cameras! Vivint displays a distinct lack of care for product quality and customer experience and only cares about making more sales..Version: 26.4.401

Glitch while using the app with an iPhoneI love this system and service but I only have one complaint. I have an iPhone and early on when I first got the system this didn’t happen, but some time after an update on the app things changed where I now have a problem while trying to change the temperature in my home. I go to thermostat and when I click on downstairs this doesn’t happen, but when I click on upstairs and try to change from heat to cool or off, whenever I touch the button it doesn’t work. If I go over and touch fan, nothing either. Only after I go up to the top area and click on the 3 lines or to the sprocket and touch there and come back out can I then go back down to the bottom and click the temp or fan button and it then works. Consistently every time these are the steps I have to take in order to change the temperature but only on the upstairs setting, not the down. This never happens on my husbands Samsung phone. I’ve updated the app so many times through the hub and this glitch never goes away and it’s been well over a year now since this has been happening. I’ve changed cell phones to a new iPhone and still the same issue. I wish someone would fix this. Thank you for listening..Version: 23.2.301

App is great when system functions correctlyWe absolutely love the app when the Vivint system is functioning correctly. Mainly the video doorbell constantly stops working and the Sky Panel has to be rebooted to get the video functioning again which is very annoying. Technicians have been out several times, get it working only for it to stop working again sometimes hours, days or weeks later. My guess is that the Skye panel itself may need updating because my internet/WiFi works excellently. Only this time, the video is working on the Sky Panel but not on the app. So this issue may be a problem with the app. Also, we have a 2nd indoor camera that never worked after the technicians left our home. It may stay on 30 mins or less then goes offline. I think that Vivint needs to update all video components to their system. The remaining components are stable and works perfectly. We receive a lot of package deliveries which is why we need the video doorbell to work consistently. We love the system but may consider switching to a different company that can offer comparable services on a more stable system..Version: 3.11.1

Automation Management Could Be Much BetterThe Vivint system is a quality security/automation system and has worked mostly flawlessly for 2 years. We have several cameras, a dozen or so window/door sensors, smart locks, smart thermostat, automated blinds, garage door and a couple dozen z-wave switches and outlets. It is great having a single system to manage all these devices in one place. I have 2 main issues (costing a star each). 1) The app is very weak when it comes to managing/defining the automations. As you can imagine with the volume of devices I control, this is an extreme challenge. Not being able to group, order, set priorities or simply edit existing automations is a real pain. If they want to do it right, they should look at the automation interface on the Tramsmart App. It is one of the best I have seen so far. 2) The logic involved with a custom action that turns on lights when a door is opened (in my case door to the garage). I have the custom action turn the lights on in the garage for 10 minutes when the door to the garage opens. This issue is EVERY open of the door creates a new “off” point 10 minutes into the future. So if I go in/out the door 5 times in 5 minutes, it creates 5 independent “off” times that start 10 minutes after the first entry/exit. This becomes very annoying as the lights go off at that action+10 minute time, no matter what. I can turn the lights on manually, but they’ll still go off if there is another “off” still in the queue. The logic in that case needs to be last occurrence of the same action replaces the previous. Maybe make it a toggle on the definition?.Version: 21.10.300

Works well most of the time but...My last three interactions with Vivint. Our alarm went off and we didn’t hear it one night because it was windy and it opened the door which was ajar and the police were came over and we ended up receiving of $420 fine from the city because apparently we didn’t register our alarm? We had no idea that we had to do that and Vivint didn’t let us know. Then one Saturday morning the alarm started activating itself when I turned it off it started activating itself again and eventually started blaring and when I turned it off I turned itself on again and again and again I couldn’t fit it. When I called the Vivint telephone number I had to wait on hold for several minutes for someone to help me. Then it took about an hour to fix the problem, it really ruined my Saturday morning with my family. Then another time the thermostat stopped working and they did not send a technician to come fix the problem. They mailed me a new unit to install myself (which I had to pay $24 for) and long story short, I was having to turn off power to my entire condo and install the new unit myself. I was splicing wires and doing electrician work because they didn’t have somebody who could come fix the problem. Then to top it all off when I called to find out how I can get out of my contract I found out that I’m locked into the contact until 2024 and I would have to pay half of what I owe them which is 800 plus dollars on top of the 600 plus dollars I still owe them for the equipment that they sold me three years ago. Their staff is NEVER professional and I’m ALWAYS having to be on hold for long periods of time. So frustrating! I’ve never regretted signing a contract this much ever! This was my Google review..Version: 21.5.300

Application and installationI’m sure this is a great company. I think they have done away with master electricians because the system is no longer being installed right with the electrical wires inside the walls. It is being installed with a plug. I have personally one on accident bumped the plug and it has been disconnected from the main monitoring system. I left and then the monitoring company called me to tell me it was disarmed and I had worked 18 hours that way and it was really inconvenient. I’m thinking about switching over to a company that will do a different job. As far as the application, the menus are not at all user-friendly. For example I have brinks at home and I can program it very easily to tell me who is opening the door who is not opening the door. To give them certain privileges. On the Vivint Application it is so difficult to figure out where the setting is, even then you’re guessing because it is not clear in any way shape or form. I think this is something the company can work on as I think they already have a big customer base. It would be nice for me at least because I am legally blind and needed a more user friendly company to work with. As far as a service, the people that work for this company are excellent people and have never had an issue so far to work with them..Version: 21.12.202

Can’t live without it now that I have itI really love the Vivint security system. The installation wasn’t fast it took time. A lot of work. Even though it was pouring rain all day they still showed up and installed. The installer was a perfect gentleman full of knowledge. He took the time to explain everything I’m 60 years old and my husband is 68 years old not at all familiar with smart home devices. Because of the simplicity of the Vivint security system we also added google home devices. The smart home that was provided is easy to use and we feel very safe. The first time we left the house my Yorkie set the alarm off and I immediately deactivate it and within a minute Vivint called to make sure everything was alright. We have a complete view of the front of the house including our three driveways, both sides and the back yard of the outside of our home. I have one camera in the den and it’s wonderful to be able to see and talk to the grandkids when they visit and I am contemplating installing more inside cameras. We live on almost a acre of land and the video is clear, even at night. Thank you Vivint for making security affordable and our life simple..Version: 20.2.202

Couldnt be happierWe had a new Vivint system installed a week ago and could not be happier. The app has functioned perfectly for us, arming, disarming, viewing live cameras, play back of previous footage, search of old footage (we do have the sky monkey which allows 30 days storage), we use the app to lock and unlock doors and also we have connected our Hue Bridge and can control our lights with the app as well. We have set up custom actions that work like a charm. Things as detailed as, when system is disarmed from keypad, turn kitchen and living room lights in 50% for 30 minutes. When I needed help adding the hue bridge, I used the support option in app and chatted with an agent. It was 11pm, I had 13 people ahead of me and I had about a 5 minute wait time. Not bad. They helped and resolved immediately. The next day when I needed help on adding a user I did same chat, I had 5 ahead of me and took maybe a minute. We are just completely pleased with our equipment, our sales person Mitch, our installer Ben, the customer service agents and this app. It has worked perfectly for us..Version: 20.6.300

More reliable than most apps.More reliable than most apps. This is an important and vital app when your home is covered by the Vivint Security System. It’s important that this app perform as necessary for us to manage it. Occasionally, with some firmware updates, the app may misbehave or not perform its functions. However, those malfunctions are corrected quickly as a new update gets pushed out shortly after the issue is identified. I would rate this app as one of the top ten most reliable apps out of the thousands available to us. This app is a necessity to the convenience of using our Vivint Security System. Out of the near decade of our household being monitored by Vivint, we have only had a handful of issues with the app, literally five or less issues have been experienced. When things are going great with such important apps like this one, we can get on with our lives not having to deal with whether or not our security system is being managed as we want it to be. Thank you for keeping this app running with higher marks than the rest..Version: 25.6.200

Please bring back Status ViewThe app is good! A few tiny bugs but usually very stable and reliable. Unfortunately and more importantly please! Please bring back Status View on the the Hub. Not sure what the issue is with deactivating the status view. I really miss it! My kids miss it too. We want the option of activating it or deactivating it. Please Vivint give us back control of the status view! I’ll give you 5 Stars when you do. Update: Vivint has totally removed the Status View from the HUB! Are you guys planning to replace it with a more stable or similar view? Or are you completely done with it? I don’t understand the need to totally get rid of it. The explanation on the panel makes no sense. You guys update all the time but they’re still connection issues with the cameras. Dropped recordings. Communication via the microphone to the doorbell camera whether on your phone or using the control panel is “sometimish.” Something so simply like the ability to always see the time/clock and constant weather is appreciated. Not to mention it would go a long way with most of your clients. Just bring it back please!.Version: 23.9.100

*Edit #2* Orientation on iPadIs there a reason that the app is not compatible with landscape mode on an iPad? It would be great to use it as a secondary touchscreen mounted in another room of the house. All of my other smart home apps have the ability to work in portrait or landscape mode. Please work on this, Vivint. Thanks for fixing the issue I stated below regarding the cropped screen. Not sure yet about the Nest functionality. I updated the panel to 3.10 so I’ll have to give it a few more days or weeks before I can tell. I’m glad you guys added support on the app and the panel for Philips Hue lights but what about adding it for the Apple Watch? Any idea when this might be updated?? Thanks in advance! I’m pretty sure the “fix” you guys did for the iPhone X has caused an issue with the resolution on all other iPhones. Whenever I pull up a camera now, the image is lowered at the top and cut off at the bottom. Please fix this for users who haven’t made the leap to the X. Also, I consistently lose connectivity to my Nest. I have talked to tech support and performed a reboot on the Sky Panel at least 6 times and it will work for a few weeks and then stop. It’s not my WIFI..Version: 18.3.101

Doesn’t always workInitially when I got the system I thought the images were awesome and great but now something has changed. My daytime images almost look black and white I can’t even tell the different colors or shades that are outside which will be a problem when trying to describe someone to the police. I can’t tell what color they have on or what color a car is because there’s no color in my camera anymore. Also my system has disconnected from the Wi-Fi many times. The last time my system disconnected they could not get it to reconnect and had to come out and service my panel and that took a whole week to get an appointment . For that entire week I wasn’t able to view my security system from the app while I was at work or away from home it was a awful feeling. I got a $15 credit ... woohoo! Smdh My water sensor went out weeks ago and it takes at least eight weeks to get a new one so I haven’t had a water sensor for almost 2 months. Its exhausting to deal with this system and I’ve only had it about four or five months and I’m regretting purchasing it. About to call them again and try to figure out why I have Black and white images with no color on my camera..Version: 19.10.300

Unreliable app and security systemThis app is always lagging and very slow. Every button I press takes 5 seconds or more before it does what it needs to do, that’s if it even works. Last night arriving home from work my alarm’s siren went off because the alarm panel is also very slow and lagging, it took 8 minutes after I opened my entry door for the screen of the panel to turn on and ask for my passcode, I tried tapping all over the screen and it was not responding, (it was pitch black the whole 8 minutes, including the whole time dispatch was talking to me through the panel), by then the alarm’s siren was already going off very loud, I couldn’t turn it off through the panel so I tried to turn the alarm off through the app and the app would not respond as well. I even closed the app 4 times to restart it and still it would not work. I bought 8 outdoor cameras, 6 door/window sensors, 1 doorbell, 1 door lock, and the touchscreen panel which all together cost me over $4,000. I’ve only had Vivint for 7 weeks and it has not been a pleasant experience, my panel had to be remotely rebooted two separate times by their call center off shore, I’ve had multiple talks with their loyalty, claims, and tech departments over the phone because of all the issues I’ve been experiencing with their products since day one, their tech also damaged parts of my home during install and was smoking on the job. I’ve been very understanding throughout this process and had given Vivint many chances to redeem and prove themselves with all the hassle and unsatisfactory experiences I had to go through, but at this point I believe that the money I’ve invested to provide me peace of mind about the safety of my home and my own safety is not even worth it in which I have decided to cancel my subscription from Vivint and return all their products to them..Version: 25.2.100
