This is Almost ideal for sending reports to the National Weather Service, but I haven’t figured out how to minimize the landscape screen to just have the scrolling compass on the bottom in landscape ( don’t need bearing or MILS) as your vertical view is reduced. And on the top reduce that to one line, don’t need elevation for weather spotting but date, time and latitude longitude only to 4 decimal degrees would be perfect weather spotting to fit it at very top line.
Easy to use to make a location-stamped photo. It would be nice to have an option to put GPS accuracy in the stamp and somewhere in the metadata, maybe in the comments field. The ability to omit the mils value from the bearing would make the stamp a bit clearer.
I live in Arizona and in error selected the standard rather than band format for UTM. The standard format has an N (north) as the alpha character. The banded format has an S (the geographic band) for that character. I wrote Craig, the developer, and he responded in minutes. He let me know about the two formats, and how to select the one that met my needs. Great app and EXCELLENT support.
I’ve used the app since 5s phone and haven’t had one day of issues.
These Hunter Research apps are quite useful, easy to use and offer terrific utility for anyone who works or plays outdoors. In-app purchases add utility and are well worth the modest expense. (This comment revised to excise remarks about in-app purchases not transferring across devices. See developer statement nearby.)

Bought the whole package deal. Use everything! Can’t do without the compass. You will not be disappointed in purchasing any of the products! Go out and have some fun. Mark
Great App 👍. Very usual work/personal tool. Provides all the information I need for helping coworkers/friends/family, as it relates to work/play. Try it. You’ll definitely like it 😁
I have used this app for about 2 years and it works flawlessly. Simple and effective, does what it is supposed to do. I have recommended to colleagues, too.
Use it for hunting trips every year!
Very helpful documenting locations. One of the few apps that supports locations in UTMs
Elegant product. I have ‘em all.
A very useful app
I am a wildlife biologist who spends most days in the field. Using this app has made my work so much simpler having all my data in a picture. I use it all day every day and absolutely love it. It would be nice to be able to use the different cameras on the phone so that’s why I’m taking a star off.
Nav Camera Negative Reviews and Ratings
The description doesn't mention that for every 1 second of video you record, it will require an extra 2-10 seconds (depending on quality & phone model) of "processing" before it saves the video. My experience is, it's always in the longer end of that range. While it's "processing" you can't start recording another video, or use your phone for anything else, it simply becomes a brick for up to 10 times the length of the recorded video. The "processing" is CPU-intensive, and it ran down my battery several times without finishing. But the app hides your battery level indicator, and if you click out of the app for a second to check your battery level... it gives you an error and the "processing" starts again from the beginning. If the "processing" gets interrupted, next time you open the app, it offers to pick up where it left off, but if it gets interrupted a second time, which is frequent because it takes so darn long to "process" even very short videos, that's it, you've lost your video and wasted a bunch of time. You can lower the video quality to shorten the "processing" time, but this makes the timestamp blurrier, and at the lowest quality level, the timestamp is totally unreadable, making the app completely pointless. You can read all of this in the documentation on the developer's website. It's just not here, in the app store description, where you might see it before you spend your money. Lowered to 1 star just for this. Not being able to use my phone for anything for up to 5 minutes after shooting a 30-second video and sometimes even then ultimately losing the video completely, I finally deleted the app. Total waste of $2.99, I deserve a refund.
After an “update” Nav Camera no longer works with my iPhone 7. It’s unresponsive to touch screen controls and the screen is over sized, won’t switch between landscape and portrait. Update: I received a reply from the developer and in their reply they neither stated what version of this app is compatible with my iPhone 7 nor did they state what version of iOS. Their assumption that I’m running outdated software is laughable, yes I’m running the latest version of iOS ,13.3.1, Apple insures that ! I also ran this app on my iPad(5th gen) with the latest iOS and the results are the same. I will not change my rating due to the developer suggesting that user is the problem! Fix your app!
Nav Camera is a good and useful app for documenting location and direction in your photograph. However, there is an error in the UTM coordinates as listed in the photo overlay. I live in Arizona where the UTM coordinates are 12 S, yet the app reports as 12 N, a location in the Pacific Ocean west of Central America. This needs to be fixed by developer.
Just paid $3.99. Installed on iPhone 12 Pro Max with iso18 crashing when loading unable to load
Just a black screen in iOS 12. No place in settings / privacy to add camera access.
Worked great in past. Now repeatedly fails to initialize in iOS 16. Please fix.
Crashes on open
I have utilized this app in the past and have loved it however I am currently in the field and have been unable to utilize it. The first day none of the photos would show up in my photo album. Today, with the new Nav camera update, the photos show up with the basic geo data overlay but I am unable to have my own notes show up on the overlay. When shall this be fixed? Again app worked perfectly with my old iPhone, iPhone 6S, not the case with the new iPhone 11 pro.
Doesn't work with latest update!!
I purchased this app based on reviews and I was looking for something that combined all that was advertised. I also purchased the Theodolite app. I use an iPhone Xs Max. Neither app compass is ANYWHERE near being correct ! Both apps were automatically downloaded to my newer version iPad Mini.....again same result, although the caveat being the iPhone app doesn’t work correctly on an iPad without the special iPad version (another negative , in my opinion). I have compared the compasses with the iPhone imbedded compass.....iPhone compass is correct, while the app compass is so inaccurate that it is laughable. Unless I am missing something, I also don’t see anywhere that compass could be calibrated in the app. This would be a great app with that issue fixed. At this point, I’m giving this a “2” rating.
Waste of money! App isn’t even compatible with ipad
Just purchase this and its very slow DO NOT BUY its waste of money
