Great app, buggy on PCsThis program works extremely well on my iPhone and iPad. I use it while traveling internationally which allows me to watch news and U.S. TV shows using my apps with no problem. This really makes travel a lot easier as I can stay up to date with America. It is also reassuring to know that I am not being spied on while using public WiFi. ExpressVPN does not work well on my PC. I do a lot of home video editing using CyberLink Power Director 14 and occasionally 16. These programs would no longer create my videos in MP4 format. This problem first occurred shortly after installing Express VPN Keys. After checking for and installing all available updates for all programs, including Express VPN, the problem persisted. I uninstalled Express VPN from my PC and the MP4 production problem disappeared. Another problem I have had involves my WiFi not working on my PC when Express VPN is connected to a server. This problem is intermittent and may not be caused by Express VPN. Too many variables to know for sure. I would give 5 Stars if not for the PC issues. Excellent VPNWe’ve been using EVPN for a couple of months. They’ve had regular updates and some minor UI changes. We use it on iPhones, iPads and Windows PCs. All connect and run well. I have one mini gripe, a slightly minor complaint and an observation pertaining to router upgrades. The mini gripe is that my iPad will connect to the guest wifi at work with EVPN, but my iPhone will not. Also, prior to 2 updates ago, it would connect my iPad in 30-40 seconds. Now, it takes 1-3 minutes with something closer to 3 being the norm. It seems to pause for some time between attempts. Before it appeared to try more rapidly. The minor complaint I was aware of going in; only 5 simultaneous connections. There are several services with comparable security and worldwide connections with more simultaneous connections for a lessor price. The 2 reasons I went with EVPN instead of one of the others was 1) to support a particular affiliate and 2) EVPN is the only one to have their no logs policy verified in the field. Reason number 2 was a distant second to no. 1. I really would appreciate more simultaneous connections. So much so, that I will likely go with a competitor when my current subscription expires, if EVPN has not increased that number. Works great if only VPNWorks great on devices that have only this VPN. For some reason when I work on a personal device that I've brought for work usage, this is the only VPN that fails to play nicely with my Work VPN sessions connecting then dropping. Most other VPNs I've tried will automatically connect once my work VPN session is over except this one, leading to a pretty serious security vulnerability in the App's design. I'm not sure what is causing the issue but again, this is literally the only privacy VPN I've tried that has this issue. My Norton Secure VPN as well as Nord VPN has no issue with my Work VPN. That being said, this App used to not have this issue until they built in to always attempt to connect the VPN so that may be the culprit to this major security flaw, because it fails to connect if going in/out of my Work VPN. The iOS VPN connection handler passes off correctly but this VPN seems to ignore it in favor of always attempt to connect and on fail (because it conflicts with the attempt to connect to Work VPN) of course iOS is going to do nothing so you end up using your device without any VPNs turning on. My guess is they're using incorrect VPN functions for this App so it's failing with my Work's VPN open/close connection calls and iOS's VPN connection handler for passing between work/school VPNs as needed to personal VPNs on demand..MahoMikuChanVersion: 12.29.0

Rated a 4The reason I rated a 4 is. I have a Iphn 13 Pro Max and Samsung zfold3. Need to separate And Block home networks. Scenario: If your living with the owner of the internet. A separate VPN not using Netgear or router. One for your mobile device that you don’t trust the owner of the internet in the house. Make a separate VPN that DOESN’T allow the owner to see your activities. Expecially with a home Router that can still track your online activities with the IP and identification, what model your phn is your using/ or the name of your phn. There must be a better way to hide your phone identification on a home Router and Modem from the owner. Using a persons WiFi is a huge security problem. Other than getting your own internet equipment. As a renter your not authorized to make holes in the walls to have your own dedicated phn lines. So there has to be another way to block and just use your unlimited cellular isp but with a vpn that can’t be detected with all your information. (If on someones network. They can see when you log on. Be able to change the model info and name of your phn, IP if need to) Or notifications sent to you. When your being tracked and the information it’s tracking. The data. Do not use for China!Express is unfortunately extremely unreliable for use in China. I’ve experienced periods of several weeks where it functions wonderfully on my laptop with minimal issues, then it’s followed with constant disconnecting and failure to connect. Even while it functions well on my laptop, it will absolutely not work on my phone or tablet concurrently. This is a feature they explicitly say is something they have, several connected devices, but it does not work. Even if it says connected on my phone or tablet, it will not actually function and I can’t open anything I should be able to. Instead the browser will act as though I’m not connected to the internet. And there are constant updates which would make you think it would get fixed but no, I’ve updated my app during a period where it’s been working and then after the update it will no longer connect. If I were to put it into my own statistic perspective (so take this with a grain of salt) I would say it works 60% of the time on my laptop, 40% of the time on my tablet, and 15% of the time on my phone. Fast but compatibility and connections issues on iPhoneI use this for my computer and it’s great, but when it comes to my cell; I have some issues. I am using a lab iPhone 6s+ iOS 14.2. Now there is 2 technical glitches... 1.) When I connect to Uber via my Wi-Fi; I can do so with the VPN on with no issues at all. Yet when Im away from home and I try to use it with my 4G LTE network; it won’t complete the connection while the Uber app is on. Not to mention the Uber app won’t work unless I disconnect it, and run it unsecured :-/ It’s a bit problematic for me. I also noticed that sometimes the Wi-Fi will connect without turning on the VPN application at all. I’ve noticed that even upon startup that it will sometimes fail to launch after the Wi-Fi has already connected :-/ I was under the impression that the VPN app wouldn’t allow a connection of any kind; until after it has connected? Anyways aside from those 2 issues; it runs great. Great Protection Despite CaveatsThe style of protection that this app offers really does help me to feel more secure. The program is loaded onto your device so the device is responsible for generating the encryption. Other services use servers which offer less protection. The app drains very little battery while it runs in the background and activates it’s connection seamlessly. There are a few issues that I would like to address. The app will block all internet traffic and connectivity when the VPN is disabled or disconnects. Ordinarily, this would be a net benefit, except that it also does this when your phone switches between a 5G signal and a 4G signal. This becomes exceptionally annoying when calls are dropped while calling someone on the go. Also, I recommend ensuring that when updating phone applications, ExpressVPN is updated first before any others. If the option to disable internet traffic is turned on and the app is updating, you will lose all connectivity because the app is temporarily inaccessible. This can be remedied by turning off your device and then turning it back on. Ultimately, this is a great service but it can be frustrating at times..RichyRichleyVersion: 11.111.0

Safety FirstI tried what turned out to be a Chinese “VPN,” prior to using this product. The prior Chinese VPN turned out to be a violation of my desktop safety, privacy and a ruination of my desktop computer. It is well known that the Chinese actively hack and spy on our computers using the internet. I saw this ad and because of the character of the company who strongly recommended it, i had faith to try it. It really is a good and genuine protection. This good VPN has protected my computer and my phone also from very noticeable hacking attacks after I had foolishly used a corrupt Apple surrogate company based in Pakistan when I tried to reset my iTunes or Apple password. They turned out to be at least partly a crooked bunch of hackers based in Pakistan. They told me to allow them to have remote control of my computer and then i watched as these somewhat verbally abusive, intimidating and disrespectful Pakistani computer “hackers” installed various programs into my computer that slowed it down to pre-1990 speeds, as I watched I was never given explanation of what they were installing, though I inquired, and I believe these brazen hackers and their evil programs enabled them to get to my personal financial documents stored on the computer as I discovered “One Drive” suddenly appeared in my lower tray at the bottom of my monitor, which I had not used and had not set up any password for. I believe they got the ISP and other identifying information for my computer, so that if I turn off the VPN, my computer seems to go out of control. Meaning someone finds the computer and starts hacking without the protection of the VPN. So, ExpressVPN seems legitimate and a great protection for me. I reinstalled Windows several times. Good at first, now not so much.I initially was all about Express VPN. In the beginning it worked as advertised. Two months later would drop unexpectedly and phishing spam seem to increase at alarming rate about that same time. Here lately it says I’m connected but apps or browsers report “timed out” or “no internet connection”. Tried different servers and that solves the problem short term only as the same issues creep back up, sometimes only after a day or two. I’ve had to uninstall the app on at least 3 occasions to get it working. It does what it advertises but only w/certain browsers. It does work w/all major streaming platforms, you might have to try a few servers to find one that it will work with but that’s to be expected. I got this app & subscription because I would not connect to a public WiFi/hotspot or even Barnes & Noble network for fear of my personal info being compromised, &, at the time our carrier did not have unlimited data. Connecting to a public hotspot is 50/50 that it’ll work smoothly, but I suspect that has more to do with the way the public hotspot is configured because on a private network this app works decent, when it works. Can not get answers at website on how to stop auto renewalI have spent too much time trying to find out how to stop the auto renewal of my 12 month subscription. I have been with express vpn at least 4 years and I now wish to review before renewing but express vpn won’t let me. I went to App Store and evidently I did not sign up subscription there. So instructions say if not at App Store go to express vpn website, I did, I signed in, I went to every link for account. I can see how much I paid each year for renewal, I can see renewal date but there is no opportunity to uncheck auto renewal or ask b4 renewing or any option to change from automatically renewing a yearly subscription. I even tried their chat; to which there was zero response. When you put “stop auto renewal” in search for faq…nothing referring to stopping the auto renewal even comes up. So beware if you sign up for auto renewal. I guess I must complain to Apple as I see no other option if I get no answers or responses from Express VPN themselves. MY GO TO VPN!!I have found Express VPN to be the most intuitive and most flexible user friendly VPN utility. I will be purchasing the Express Aircove Router witch will allow for the VPN to be distributed automatically to all of my wifi devices automatically in my home network. One function I have felt operated much more smoothly than others I have tried is the ability to purchase Express VPN on one device, and then install additional copies on other devices and configure; just have your login info handy. I installed this on my tablet and Chromebook, as well as my elderly mother’s IPhone. You could have some issues with certain lower quality websites thinking you are overseas, but I was able to easily show my elderly, non technical Mom, how to change back to a US based server or disconnect/reconnect Express with one “dashboard” button. New Smart Location feature ruins the appI’ve had this app for a year now, and have been very happy with it until recently. Several weeks ago an update added something called “Smart Location”, which the app defaults to starting with. The problem is, the smart location it chooses is geographically very close to me, which means it falls under the same restrictions from websites that I’m using the app to try and avoid. So this means I have to manually change the server location every time I open and connect with the app. Before the smart location feature got added, the app simply started up with which ever server I had used previously, which is exactly what I needed. A week or so ago, another update added an option in the profile to supposedly disable smart location, which it said would then allow the default to be which ever server was selected last, so it seems the developers figured out that forcing smart location at startup wasn’t best for everyone. But this new profile setting simply doesn’t work. I disabled smart location, pick the server I want to connect with, and when I’m done with my session, I disconnect and close the app. But the next time I start the app, it has again selected a smart location server that it thinks is the best choice for me, rather than the server I had selected when I closed the app. The profile setting still shows smart location has been disabled, but the app continues to select a smart location near me each time it’s restarted, rather than selecting the server that was last connected. I’ve opened multiple tickets on this issue over the last week, but each one keeps getting closed with the rep saying they’ll take my issues to development. However, each new update still seems to have the same issue with smart location, constantly selecting a server I do not want rather than allowing me to select the server I want and restart with that server each time..MorbiusVersion: 12.36.0

Works 90% of the timeWhen I’m away from my house, this VPN works 98% of the time. When I’m in my house…. Works 90% of the time. The other 10%, I can’t connect to any state within the USA, or any country. The app will prompt “dropped connection, attempting to reconnect” and then the “spinning wheel of death” (what I call it) will show that it’s attempting to reconnect, but doesn’t. I can turn off my WiFi. Same outcome. We have Ziply Fiber optic internet which I’m paying for 2gig up/down speeds. I’ve verified on our desktop computers that the internet health is working as intended, power cycled the routers thinking that was it, pretty much done everything that I can think of outside the VPN app that I can control and still the VPN will not connect. An hour or so later, the app connects without issue. There are times that I’ll be at physically at work, connected to the company WiFi and the VPN drops connection. It’s rare but that’s the 2% comes in for that issue. If I’m not on WiFi, the app works pretty much all the time as well. ReliableMan, seeing some of the reviews on here you’d think people lost touch with reality. This vpn does exactly what it says it does and does it well. I have both my laptop and my iPhone protected. If you experience a “sudden outage” then it is doing what it is designed to do which is hit the kill switch when your not fully protected. You can’t always connect in China because it’s an authoritarian communist regime. Duh. Perhaps an education on vpns are in order. There are cheaper vpns but this does what it needs and I can use it in my Linux Distro. Just a word of cation though, in Linux, they only support their app for Ubuntu and Arch iirc. Fortunately I had an arch install and had to switch from manjaro which made me sad as thst was my favorite Linux Distro. I may suggest making the install on Linux instructions a little easier to find as I had trouble finding where it was. Do not use or waste your moneyThis product is one of the worst I ever encountered. Continually disconnects. Continually logs you out. Good luck trying to get a password reset email, usually takes half a day. Keep in mind if you aren’t logged in and turned on you can’t use your device, 4K firestick, PC or iPhone. All don’t work for more than 30 minutes. Watching a show? Not for more than 30 minutes you won’t be. You’ll be disconnected. Which is awesome when playing a game and about to win and then you get knocked off due to this worthless app for zero reason. Then you have to reconnect all over again because your device locks up. Want to find your log in info or password? Nope. They won’t provide you that information. You have to wait on a slow to respond help desk. Then when they reply you have to go to a different website and then log in to see your help desk ticket but if you can’t get your password reset you can’t even look at it. Worthless junk. WON’T allow you to cancel auto renewal!The VPN works great. No complaints there. HOWEVER, if you ever try to cancel or turn off auto renew Express VPN does everything in their power to stop you. Turning off auto renew on the website does nothing. If you click refresh after turning it off it’s already turned back on. I tried turning off auto renew for more than a month and it never worked. I ended up contacting support through chat and they still didn’t want to turn it off for me. I ended up having to request cancellation of my account. Even then the representative kept trying to save my account and I finally had to tell her to that I was short on time and just needed it canceled. Express VPN holds your credit card information captive. You can’t delete it and you can’t stop the auto renew. You may think you’ve turn it off but it’s really still on. EVPN Honest ReviewI purchased a yearly subscription initially for my PC running Win10 & Linux and then downloaded the app for my Samsung Note 9 and Apple iPod 6 touch. The price might be [for some] a bit much, however, you are getting a very complete package that allows you to use the service on many more devices/services than any other VPN app I know. With any proxy/VPN service like this (free or paid) you are going to have some throughput or speed issues, however, with ExpressVPN the degradation in data transfer is absolutely minimal. In most cases it’s not even noticeable. That’s an honest report...using my PC’s and my smartphone/iPod. I know there are a number of services out there that do the same thing and yes some are a little cheaper, but if you cherish your privacy AND maintaining your usual throughput (speed) then I highly recommend ExpressVPN. You will not be disappointed. TIP: If your using it on a PC/Mac/Linux, be sure and check the website frequently (say once a week) and grab the latest client (app). You will notice there is no link to check for updates, thus you must check online manually....again this is for the PC/Mac/Linux clients. For mobile & gaming devices, the new client is uploaded to the various app stores or to your device directly (if you have auto updates enabled within your smartphone or other device) when they are ready. Risk versus rewardLike many things it’s got a lot of positives, but you sacrifice some communication abilities because it interferes with other programs settings sometimes. There are so many settings these days that occasionally I will turn off my VPN and get a bunch of messages from applications like Signal that has operations that are intended to cloak and preserve your anonymity, which I feel get interpreted by the VPN as suspicious and it will deny it access and you can miss some messages, with this said it’s like a saying I heard one time, that’s one of those good problems, like having an account too much money or you got so much food that you have to can some of it and that entails some work. Works very well but needs more featuresThis app is extremely simple to use and does exactly what the website says and does it very well. I couldn’t decide between this or Surfshark, but I ended up going with this. I only bought it for a month in case I want to switch. The connections are fast and this is great at unblocking Netflix. But the biggest reason I almost bought Surfshark instead was because it has way more features included like Adblock, multi hop, and privacy from search engines. Overall ExpressVPN works very well and customer support is a 10/10. You can also use their website to change settings around like turning off auto renewal payments. They will email you when you need to renew at the end of your subscription period instead of doing it automatically. Consistent connections!I’ve three top-rated, PAID VPNs installed on my iPhone and my MacBook Pro, and have tested them thoroughly for at least three years, alternating them every day. After such lengthy use/testing, ExpressVPN is the only one of the three VPNs that consistently maintains its connections. The other two consistently drop connections such that, when I’m using using one of the other two VPNs, before I attempt any online activity, I must first verify that it hasn’t dropped its connection, which of course is, at the very least, an annoyance and, at the worst a trust buster. All attempts to find a solution to the dropped connections issue with those two VPN’s support have been for naught. I reckon my consumer opinion is woefully out of date because, when I pay for top-rated VPN, I expect it to operate flawlessly. Great but…It doesn’t work in China anymore! It used to, but now it only works every now and then for only one minute. The connecting sign is always stuck on the last bar. I tried contacting support but, as usual, they simply said their engineers are working on it. Please give us a time frame or some other hope that this vpn might improve. But I do have a suggestion, I was spamming the connect button on a free server in tor vpn the other day and it connected! Stayed connected for the entire day (and then stopped working again). What the heck!I changed my VPN to Xpress VPN. I’ve been trying now literally for hours trying to get it installed on the second iPhone iOS 16. Everything I can find on the Xpress VPN site to install what I have already purchased onto a second device since me to the App Store where they generously want me to pay for a second installation. After clicking on the chat with us button and Xpress VPN several times throughout these hours the message comes up that my wait time will be “less than a minute”. Absolutely no response for any of the 10 to 15 times I tried to chat on their 24 /7 chat helpline. If anyone from expressVPN reads these comments contact me. On a public forum, I do not want to. Blocks All Internet ConnectionWorked fine in the beginning then it began sparingly blocking most or all internet connection. I stumbled upon this by turning it off finally and miraculously everything working properly. Unfortunately I didn’t discover this until some months after having the app. Additionally, I discovered that some websites still know my location. I’m outside the U.S. I’ve tried going to a U.S. website to make a purchase and I was rerouted to its foreign counterpart. Very frustrating as Asian sizes are not the same as American sizes. Mobile issuesUpdate: There are still major issues with the mobile version. Very buggy. It disconnects from my wifi when at rest and when I unlock it it all freezes. The Wifi and the VPN. At times I have to delete the app and reinstall to get it working again. I notice it struggles in the transfers from wifi to no wifi also. Happens very often. Nothing internet related will load when this happens. Everything must be reset or reinstalled. Today when I logged into my phone and went to the VPN express app it was flashing back and forth between the main connect button and the little pop up below. Totally frozen there just flipping back and forth disconnected. Nothing worked. Had to delete and reinstall. It works fine with PC and TV Streamers though. Living in China using ExpressWe bought 6 months of Express VPN with no prior knowledge of VPNs for our 4 month trip to China. The main reason we wanted it was every body else was also getting it and so that my wife could easily access her online American classes. Throughout the 4 month program, Express was extremely temperamental. It connected a large portion of the time for the first month, but during national holidays or just randomly for the rest of the experience, Express took 5-10 minutes to connect or it didn’t connect at all. We tried all of the different area-specific recommendations (Such as Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Los Angeles) and still nothing. Not being able to rely on Express connecting when we needed it was super frustrating, especially when my wife had tests that could only be taken within a couple of days and Express was failing to connect for days on end. What was even more frustrating was towards the end of the experience, we found free VPNs such as VPN Cat that not only connected immediately without fail every time in China, but they were also completely free. I would have left 1 star, but the one plus side of Express is that when it actually is able to connect, the video streaming power is more powerful than the other VPNs we used. By the end of the program, the other students in my program had more or less all switched to other VPNs as well. Frequent Service OutageI have been a customer of exp vpn for years. The biggest problem is whenever there is some national/political event going on in China, the server is ALWAYS DOWN. Sometimes they are able to get it back to work within a few days, sometimes it takes weeks. Over the past 11 months of this year, I have experienced cumulatively at least 30 days of service outage. Now is December 1st as I write, the service is still unavailable on all platforms, although they stated that they were already aware of the issue and were working on a fix, back on November 23rd. When you try to reach out to the support team they will ALWAYS tell you to do the following useless processes: reset, delete and re-download, etc. where the issue is apparently on the server side, not on the client side. Initially when I picked express vpn I was hoping that it could would work ALL THE TIME NO MATTER WHAT, and there shouldn’t be any excuses. IPhone update nightmareEvery time there is an update for my iPhone the ExprssVPN app will not update properly. I’ve checked everything. When starting update via app store it completely blocks my vpn access even while trying to update their app. I have to delete the app entirely reboot my phone redownload the app with its latest update, resign on and double check settings that I have. I also found it to have changed my settings within the app on different occasions, leaking my ip address. It’s happened on my iPad in the past which is older than my phone but now iPad seems to handle the updates so far but the iPhone I still I have to go through this whole process. I have to make sure I update any other app updates first because I know trying to update ExpressVPN is going to jam my system up til I go through the process as described above. I’ve now loaded another vpn that updates seamlessly and doesn’t randomly change my settings. It lets me multi switch but Express vpn has the issues with the iPhone even before the other vpn was added. I cringe every time I see Express vpn has an update because the process I know I’m in for. So I use the other VPN til I can go through all that other nonsense when I have avail time. It’s a real pain. I see fake reviews have reached Apple's Apps Store & ExpressVPN's App PageI've been with ExpressVPN for five years now. I noticed a decline in their service for both MBP and iPhone's app over the past several years. Not to mention their customer service is a mere email with the cut and paste response no matter how many times you've reached out to them. It drops my wifi and Ethernet connection at least a dozen times a day between the phone and laptop. Some months are bette than others but it is consistent and regular distraction when you lose connection. They have never been able to come up with a solution to the issue and besides the cut and paste 8 suggestions they always spew they will suggest to download the latest beta version. Because you know, beta versions are always stable . They also make it difficult to drop their service and remove your credit card info. Anyone who provides 4-5 stars for their service clearly just signed up. Rarely use now on IOS16I loved my express VPN subscription for awhile. It does lack some extra features on iOS like split tunneling and advanced customization like automations etc. However, ever since I bought a new iPhone the experience with the Express VpN app and service has been a headache. It completely broke the wireless CarPlay experience. I’d have to remember to turn it off before getting into my car, ignoring the hassle of it I’d usually forget anyway. When that happens I would have to go and turn off the vpn, then go to CarPlay settings and turn off CarPlay, then re-enable it. Sometimes that didn’t work, so I’d either have to forget car and re-link and/or power cycle my phone. This is a huge hassle and basically removes all the added convenience of wireless CarPlay for the usually short trips I make in my car everyday. Another issue was that my phone would lose all connectivity overnight quite a few times and turning off/on VPN did not seem to work. I’d have to power cycle my phone…ugh. Won’t even connect lolInstalled this app and allowed it to add its vpn configuration. Then I opted to start the free trial. Finally, I hit the connect button. But nothing happened. Hit it a few more times. It didn’t even have any animation on the screen, or any indication that it was even trying to connect, or that the button was even being touched. Tried other buttons in the app, to see if the app was frozen, but everything else worked. Just not the connect button. So I decided to restart the app. But when I restarted it, it stayed stuck on the splash screen. Tried restarting it several times. But it wouldn’t get past the splash screen. Deleted the app, to try to reinstall. It asked if I wanted to keep my free trial subscription, I said yes. Reinstalled app, and it loaded into the app this time, without getting stuck on splash screen. But it asked if I wanted to start a free trial subscription. It has no button to “restore purchases”, so it didn’t know I already had a free trial. So I went into my iCloud settings, and ended my free trial that way. Went back into the app, and clicked okay to indicate that I’d like to start a free trial, and it said “error, failed, please try again”. Tried again. Same message. Dropping connection or just will not connect at allI have been using express vpn for years in China and have always had problems with it dropping or not connecting. I would send a email to support when I could get to their web site. Put most the time their web sites are blocked by China and you have to spend a lot of time just trying to report the problem. Like now their vpn is not working on all my computers, phones or iPads. But I saved my last email in December and reported the same old issue. The bad thing is I know what they will ask me in their response. Because it’s always the same. Even when you give them all the details in your first email. I think an computer is just sending out per program responses. What software are you using, what locations have you tried, what version of express vpn are you using? After that they will send a email with can you send us a report, but since my vpn is setup to automatically send reports why would they ask for one? After that email they ask you to try changing the settings. None of these things ever work and the way I fix it most the time is to uninstall and reinstall their software. Avoid this company!They are horrible! I signed up for the free trial. After checking out their services all seemed ok. Then I tried to change the firmware on my router to their firmware which was supposedly required. It messed my router up. Terrible service in China… do not buy!!I got express VPN back in 2018 when I first moved abroad for work in order to maintain contact with friends and family and also still have access to my favorite online streaming platforms. For the first few years it was great, however perhaps starting last year it has been much harder to maintain a consistent connection. I’ve even experienced weeks or months at a time where I couldn’t connect or the app would say that it’s connected, however I couldn’t even access google. Good VPN... When it actually worksI’ve been using ExpressVPN for a few months now. When it’s connected and working properly it’s a pretty good service. Before the latest update I would occasionally have a connection drop, but it didn’t happen often enough to bother me. Since the update my iPhone is constantly disconnecting from the VPN servers. Doesn’t matter what server I connect to either. Sometimes when I unlock my phone it’ll have a hard time connecting back to the server and I’ll have to manually open the app and select a new one. Other times it’ll drop the connection while I’m using the internet. There is no warning for this. All of a sudden it just stops working and I have to disconnect and choose a new server. This happens at least 10x per day. My connection actually dropped while I was in the middle of typing this review. It’s incredibly frustrating. There’s also no kill switch in the app that I’m aware of so who knows if my info is being leaked. I understand every VPN service has connection issues from time to time but this is a constant thing. It’s great, until it’s not.I live in China, and for almost a decade Expressvpn has been my go to work-around for the Great Firewall of China. Sure, once or twice a year the government would crack down and it would be out of commission for a few days, but nothing unbearable. Until this year. For the last few months it seems like it doesn’t work more than it does and customer service, while deeply sympathetic, does nothing more than refer you back to their service page which regurgitates the same useless advice ending with “ bookmark this page and check back for latest updates”. Absolutely disappointed.I’ve been with this service since 2016, but this year I made a huge mistake by extending my membership. 30 days money back is only for the new customers, before they give their money to the company and old ones are not protected at all. App not ready - do not buy!I installed the app with its default settings, but the app immediately started reporting that it could never connect, internet traffic blocked. When I contacted support, they told me to ignore that message because the app was really protecting my identity. Really?! A lot to be desiredBeing a subscriber since August 2020 while traveling in Taiwan and China during this period of time. Using it while in Taiwan was no problem at all. Access was pretty smooth and successful anytime. However, within China, it was a totally different experience. The VPN version used on my devices is pretty up-to-date since I check constantly. Within China, connection is hardly ever successful the first try at all times and the process seems sluggish regardless of the VPN locations (Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and US, etc.) I tried. Even when connected, the connection didn’t seem to be stable and long lasting. I said so because I have a company-used VPN on my devices as well. So, when I get frustrated with Express VPN at home, I will take advantage of the company VPN. When I do so, I pretty much get connected right away. There is nothing proprietary about the company VPN because it is just an app downloaded from the Apple App Store except the company pays the subscription. Total confusionI used the app and service for free trial successfully. Yesterday I received notice of the end of the trial and decided to continue with a subscription. Unfortunately, I’ve been struggling since. I was not able to make the subscription via the app nor was I able to open your website or access customer support. Improved connectivity?Not so much... so sorry I did this update! This is just par for the course with this service. Having an iPhone, it is important that I stay connected to receive timely messages. I’ve never had this experience in the year I’ve had this service. I actually set up a shortcut to bump my WiFi off and on to get reconnected, and I use that shortcut constantly because the app requires I hit the circled X to disconnect from the service to choose another location. That leaves my connection unsecured. And if I want to use a location not in the main list, I have to enable the All Locations option every. single. time., though I choose that option every. single. time. Was an awesome VPN at firstNot sure if it’s just coincidence or what. First year with this VPN was good. I started getting timeout error and random disconnects and decided to cancel subscription. I didn’t notice it had just automatically renewed without me noticing any emails saying it was about to do so. Every other IP address from this app is banned from websites. Home Depot will randomly block me and I need to refresh the IP address or switch servers to get on it. Other websites insist on checking I’m not a bot every time I get on them which is highly annoying. My stupid time wasting games, you know the ones where just tap on things to build stuff, get frustratingly annoying because of IP addresses being swapped in the background. Complete ScamIf I could give this app zero stars I would. I meant to only use it for a short time while I was out of the country, because my company’s website was not authorized in Europe. However, that’s where my problems started. First of all, I was charged for two separate VPN IDs, the second one without my knowledge. Additionally, I was charged via Apple pay a day before my subscription was supposed to be renewed. The initial email I received when I purchased the VPN said it would be renewed on July 13th, but I was charged on July 12th, which I have photo evidence of in the email communication.
