Too Good To Go: End Food Waste Positive Reviews

Great concept, amazing value, one feature requestI use this app all the time. I’ve looked at some reviews complaining that sometimes shops don’t have their food or that they don’t get what they ordered. While these are valid points, they are not the usual experience. I ordered hundreds of bags over a year, only twice I got to a place that was closed, 2-3 times the shop didn’t have the bag (it was a mistake in the system) and maybe another 2-3 times the bag was cancelled before I collected it or the collection time has changed. In terms of being satisfied with what you are going to get, as long as you don’t have any allergies and you are not picky about your food, you can follow the ratings system. If you are picky, you can still use it, but buy only from vendors that always give you the same thing. E.g. most sushi places will give you sushi, Starbucks split their food and cakes into separate offerings etc. If I could wish for one feature, it would be the ability to order my lists (including favourites) by start and end time of collection. I know I can filter on it, but sometimes I would like to quickly see what I can get now vs. what I can get if I wait a bit. It might not be important for a casual user, but when someone schedules their lunches based on TGTG, it is handy..Version: 24.8.11

DESPERATELY needs a button to zero in on your locationI love this service! However, it DESPERATELY needs a button to zero in on your location!!! Every single time I open the app, I have to tap Browse, then zoom like 4 times and move the map around just to see if the bag at the end of my block is still available. I do this multiple times a day because I don’t know at 10am if I’ll still be around my house at 8pm. I really prefer to use the map view and would absolutely love an option to start on the map view zeroed in on my current location. I don’t need to see the entire Bronx and even New Jersey every time I open the app. I live in Brooklyn for Pete’s sake. Also, stop pushing the auto update feature on restaurant owners. It makes their business always say bags are available tomorrow even though they may not be. I think it hurts the dependability of your service. Many owners don’t understand what it does and it winds up saying that all of these restaurants have leftover bags available when they do not actually have it. I feel like it should say there is nothing available until the store owner physically goes in there and updates it to say there is something. I’ve helped one of my local spots figure out what was going wrong and why it always said he had two bags available when he did not. This auto update feature makes me feel like I cannot reserve a bag in advance and I must show up first to see if something is actually available. Kind of defeats the purpose of the entire reservation process. Thanks for reading!.Version: 21.6.4

Can’t believe I haven’t taken advantage of this app sooner!I think I found my go to app to get food while working now. This app really helps me a lot, especially as someone who has to be a bit budget friendly. First time trying this app tonight and it was so easy to order and pick up. The restaurant I chose I ended up getting more than expected and all for $6. How can you beat that?! Food was delicious and luckily for me, I loved what the employee of the restaurant chose for me. Definitely want to try out some of the other restaurants and grocery stores that use the app in my area. Only con is that I wish more restaurants/grocery stores and other food selling businesses took advantage of this app to have more variety in my area, but at the moment I’m very happy with the few selections I do have. Will definitely be using this app to order food on the regular now. Really helps me out as a delivery driver. Can order the night before, and have it be ready while working. Saves me so much time and money. I really appreciate that it also helps eliminate food waste. Such a great idea this app is!.Version: 25.8.10

Good, But App Could Be ImprovedThis is a great service that helps to fight food waste. It’s also a nice way to discover businesses in your area that you might not have known about and sample their offerings. However, the app itself could use some improvement. One issue is that there are some points in the day when the data in the app fail to load and you are stuck at looking at the animated Too Good To Go logo in a white box - sometimes this occurs in the middle of the night but I have also seen it take place during the middle of the day. I hope this never happens to me when I’m going to pick up an order and need to show it to someone in a store and swipe in the app to collect. Another issue is that the distances shown in the map are straight line (or “as the crow flies”) and don’t take into account the street grid or bodies of water such as rivers. While this approach might work fine for some areas it isn’t best suited for a dense urban environment where there are numerous businesses. Even when I have the filter set to the minimum 1 mile distance I see locations that are actually much further away because they would first require walking to a subway station or to a ferry landing to cross a river. I have found that it’s easier to judge distances by looking at the “Map” view instead of the “List” view under the “Browse” option, but there is no “Map” view available under your “Favorites”..Version: 22.9.11

Great concept but execution could be much betterI have only used this service once as a result of it being poorly executed. I arrived at the restaurant at the start of the pick up time. They didn’t have my order. They had no food remaining and were dismissive. I biked 2 miles to get it so it was a huge waste of time and effort. Not only did Too good To Go customer service not provide me with compensation / discount for a future order but I had to wait more than a week for the refund. The app is also not that great. I don’t have an issue with the distance shown being a straight line like others have noted - that’s what Google maps is for! My problem is lack of selection - only the same 3-5 places show up within 2 mile radius and I’m in a dense area just a few blocks away from a very big and famous university with tons of restaurants in the area. The description of what might be offered is often very vague and we have no idea why places get the score they do. I understand we shouldn’t rate places like Google or Yelp as these establishments are doing us a favor but it helps to know if my bag is going to have boba tea or a sandwich? Is it going to be a meal or dessert / pastries? Will it have meat? I just called up a pasta joint that always shows up in the app. I thought I’d be getting cooked ravioli but was told it’s uncooked bits of fresh pasta. That type of info would be useful to have in the app..Version: 23.3.1

Great app & idea, would love Gluten-free as a filter optionI discovered this app today and I’m so excited! Grocery prices are outrageous right now and having the option to save money while also keeping food out of the landfill is so wonderful. The app is super easy to use and the options are pretty diverse. This is such an excellent and timely idea and implementation! I was really surprised to see that when presented with options to filter choices there is an option for vegetarian and vegan but not gluten-free, even though several of the businesses have gluten-free options listed in their online menus and society is embracing gluten-free eating in growing numbers each year. My final critique is that even though there is a tab to click labeled “allergies and ingredients,” there are never any listed, just a generic message to check with the listed store. It just seems like if your surprise bag regularly contains a major anaphylactic allergen like eggs, corn, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, dairy, fish, or shellfish, that could be added to the generic message to save lives, plus save time and energy for all involved. When selling food items, it’s the expedient and responsible thing to do. For these reasons I felt like I could only give four stars for now..Version: 23.12.0

In love 😍They have so many options when it comes to the stores (in different locations too) and the food from those stores are always something different (might get pizza, taco, salad, pastries, etc). I always order from District Taco in KOP because they seem to be the best - staff so friendly and food amazing. There are some cool pizza places like Zestos (great value and fresh/ heated up) but then there are awful ones like Primos (they make you pay full price for spoiled/cold food). Only ran into an issue once and that was with Primos when they didn’t have any food and didn’t cancel which made me go through the app for a refund that took about 2 weeks but don’t freak because they will get to you. Can order a few if available which can last you. You might get it at the very end of store closing hours, but it will be perfectly good for the next few days (if it takes you a bit to eat or order a few and planed to save it for another time). This app is perfect for saving food and on money. Awesome for people who might not be able to afford full price on food. Thank you ❤️🙏.Version: 23.7.10

Love the concept, would tweak a few things!First and foremost, I want to say that I really do love the concept from this app. While I have only gotten one bag thus far, I did enjoy the selection of donuts that I was able to receive. Also, there’s a good deal of restaurants near me which provides a great selection to choose from. Here are the cons— (1) I am unable to see any reviews. It would be helpful to know why a restaurant received a lower or higher rating. For some reason, the app will just give the rating and pick out the good things about the restaurant but that doesn’t help me decide if I want to purchase. Was the food not good? Was the quantity not good? Was it customer service? These would be good to know before purchasing. (2) I honestly don’t know why they even have an allergen section because it provides zero information, it might as well not be on the app. I get that it is a surprise bag, but there should be a way to receive some information, even if it’s “a majority of the products contain tree nuts”. Alternatively, if I could specify my allergens and the restaurant can approve or deny based on what they individuals selected. Something should improve here..Version: 22.9.10

Becoming disceningAfter 40 transactions, you may get your antennae up for the radar of a $5.99 meal from a mom and pop takeout business in a really busy area. It could be amazing but it could be quite disappointing, equivalent to the lunch special but without the best items and a huge serving of the cheapest. This is the roller coaster you choose that is TGTG. With over 40 purchases I've had disappointing sides from a seller named after our great state on the West Coast. I've had disappointing pastries from a corporate coffee house. From a small East Coast Pizza House that moved to Pasadena on the West Coast I've had five amazing slices for $5.99 but when I got it again months later, it was only three slices for the same price. Like FGump says, you never know what you're gonna get. This is TGTG. Still worth it. Best if you are in a crowded area. After a few runs you too will get TGTG antannae feelers but are still subject to getting amazing tacos and empanadas one day and repeating the order the next day to find a box filled with four slices of amazing wedding cake from the very same restaurant (in North Hollywood California).Version: 24.9.0

Too Good To Go Honest ReviewI’m a 45 year old white male and I live on Long Island in New York. I downloaded this app about two days ago and I have been very impressed. I have picked up two orders using this app so far and I look forward to using it again. I placed orders at two different pizza places nearby. Both times I called the restaurant to confirm that they use the app and that the pickup time is within their actual business hours. The quantity of food that I was given was extremely generous for the amount that I paid. So what’s the catch? You do sacrifice some convenience. You don’t get to pick what they give you. So far I’ve received a variety of pizza slices. I’m not picky so I don’t mind the variety. Also the food needs to be heated if you want to enjoy it hot. Finally you have to pick up the food when the business is almost closed. So you don’t get to pick what time you get the food. Despite those three things, I still recommend using the app. You get a lot of food and even if it was not hot, it was made fresh that day. I received no less than 7 different slices of pizza from my orders and paid less than $7 for each order. And one of the orders included garlic knots on top of the 7!slices. I’m curious to see what you get from bagel shops. My one warning is that you really should contact the restaurant directly to confirm that they are familiar with the app and do indeed honor the orders placed through the app. Also I can’t emphasize enough that this is not ideal for picky eaters. I’m a trash can and will happily eat almost anything. I am really impressed by the value and it has been easy to use. I have been using my apple pay to make purchases. So if this sounds like something you want to try I think you should download it and see what restaurants are offering deals in your area. Better that you get a discount on local food than the business just throws out stuff they didn’t sell..Version: 24.4.0

Fantastic initiative, should be the norm. Usability could improve. The concept of this app is great. Food waste is a massive problem and bringing awareness/sustainably reducing it is great! T he one star docked is only because (as other reviewers mentioned) the filters and map variables could be greatly expanded. Things like keywords, food sensitivities, and better options to section/parse the map would make the user experience much better. Encouraging vendors to list/update their offerings would make customers easier to find (and vice-versa), and it’d be less overwhelming than browsing the many dots on the map. Basically: You find restaurants with extra food, and pay for it at an extremely reasonable price. Every place I’ve gone to gives a really generous amount of food for the cost, and can last a couple days especially if it’s a bakery or grocery store (disclaimer: I’ve been at 90%+ rated places so far, so it could be hit or miss). Needless to say it’s amazing for those on a budget, and it’s benefiting small shops as well. I really hope this concept becomes widespread because we waste so much while many have very little..Version: 21.4.0

How does Surprise Bag offer sell out every day within a second of offer?Generally very very happy with the entire concept of Two Good To Go. It’s an inexpensive ( mostly) fun food surprise. If it helps with food waste ( maybe) even better! The single thing that perplexes or confounds me is the stores that offer surprise bags at a designated time “check back later at 9:16” , for example. I have attempted to acquire some surprise bag offers for weeks at the designated time, but no matter my “readiness” to pounce on the offer, it sells out instantly. I am saying instantly- turns say 9:00 pm & the surprise bag is gone by 9:00:01 seconds. I am sure that people, maybe the same people every day? Have figured out how to set up the transaction for instant purchase. Maybe the business is only making one offer, however it is still instantly gone every day. Not quickly, instantly. Perhaps I am just not quick enough for the very popular offers, other than that I enjoy the whole idea of TwoGoodToGo very much, it’s quite a clever concept..Version: 23.12.1

Nice until its notIts a nice concept and a good bargain at times. It can be fun to try a new restaurant or food place by buying the surplus. Some have been generous others not so much. The app itself runs fine enough with no issues thus far on purchases and pick ups. I might say it even works better than many restaurant ordering apps. Which is good as a third party vendor you really have no recourse other than to submit a request for a refund. I never have as I see it as a gamble. But when a regular full service restaurant decides it doesn’t have enough food to fulfill its offering and cancels just before pick up, that feels like they aren’t living up to their word. Refunds can take 14 business days. The app functions well and has built in support for such issues. But be aware that the execution of buying leftover food goes beyond placing an order and its not all peachy keen. Sometimes it feels like you got suckered punched. Sometimes its a nice surprise. I won’t go out of my way to pick up something anymore. Its a nice concept but only if the vendor is generous with what they give and follow through with their promises..Version: 25.6.0

BrilliantThe collective "we" needed this! I’m so glad it’s a thing! I know how much restaurants and big arenas waste food and other products. Here in this app you will find places to purchase food that’s fresh and healthy at the end of their business day … Delicious and or new to you. It’s full of discovery! The place of business gets to make their money back (thus you are supporting a local business to stay in business helping keep your neighborhood thriving) and YOU get to purchase some thing at a low rate that’s good to eat so it doesn’t go to waste. I actually even found a few places that I didn’t even know about in my local area just because they are a part of this. It’s been a win-win + a great experience for us. Get yourself a salad or some baked goods for a fraction of the price. Great for students, people on a budget, a person on the go. We've all had a variation of this idea at one point or another….and Too Good To Go executed it—wonderfully! I highly recommend it to anyone..Version: 22.8.01

Good conceptI love this concept and I love that I’m able to get good quality food for a typically much lower price than it normally goes for. My primary complaints are that this isn’t more widely popular in less urban areas, and the places that do partner with this app are mostly all sweets/dessert places. Lowering food waste shouldn’t be explicitly a dessert option. I wish the app had an option for users to request certain businesses or companies. If enough of us show interest in specific businesses, maybe those that don’t know this app exists could add themselves to the roster and increase the reach of this app and this concept. I’ve also noticed that while we tend to get decent food from it, it’s kind of inconsistent. For example, we’ve ordered from Panera several times and on average we’ve gotten 4 items, but one of those times 2 of the items were small (like bite size) while another time we got 4-5 large items. It’s still generally a good discount for the regular cost of this store’s products, but I’d personally prefer a little bit more consistency on the value..Version: 25.2.0

Saving money & Reducing food wasteI love the concept of reducing food waste by offering to customers at a discount. Two things that I wish would be improved on the app: the ability to block certain offers, and the ability to write and view specific business reviews. (1) Circle K’s have flooded the app, to where all I see is Circle K sometimes. Sorry but I don’t want gas station food, although there must be someone out there who does want it. However, I would appreciate the ability to block providers like Circle K. (2) I would also like written reviews. After making a purchase on TGTG, they ask you to complete a short survey which is then published on the business’s offerings, but only in the form of a 1-5 star review with a few standard highlights. I wish we could write reviews and have them be published for all to see. This would greatly assist in ensuring that people get food that they can and will eat! Otherwise, it’ll just go in the trash can at home. I want to hear what people received so that I can make a better decision in my TGTG purchases..Version: 25.3.20

Top tier idea missing some QOL featuresLove the premise, and the execution of placing an order is great, HOWEVER, there are some serious UI and UX pain points. Living in a city, there are a few bags (groceries) that sell out the INSTANT they get put up - I don't even have time to try to order before they are gone. Having some kind of lottery system for those super-in-demand bags would be super helpful in the absence of more vendors - I shouldn't need to be hawking the app at a hyoer specific time in the evening to have a sliver of a chance to secure something. Additionally, navigating what's available is a bit of a clunkfest. There's not really any good filtering, which is sorely needed in my area because I am both 1) near a border and can't filter out listings from our nation's neighbors. (A workaround is to set my pin different from my location, but that means sorting by distance isn't correct) and 2) There are some businesses that I suspect are trying to use the platform as a way to advertise near me, and I'd prefer to not wade through their 10 daily posted cocktail offers. Being able to hide specific things would be a welcome addition..Version: 25.11.0

Such a great appThis is such a wonderful app. I have loved using it and gotten so much food through it. I love the map feature and searching based on your location. I love that when you click on a stop you can have the choice of google or Apple Maps to get directions. It makes it so easy. Purchasing and picking up seems to be so easy. There are a few things that I think would make it better. 1. The sorting options should show you things in order of the pick up time. I got out of a work training yesterday and wanted to see if I could grab dinner anywhere. There as an option but it took me a while to search through. I’d love to see an option to see the items listed by pick up time. I would spend more money on here if it was quicker access. 2. I feel as though I have to look through multiple locations to actually see all the different places that are offering food that isn’t sold out. I don’t even know if the Browse shows them all or not. I wish there was one spot to know I was visually seeing them all. 3. I wish there was a way to hide stores you don’t like. I will never order from this one donut shop in our town and they have 3 locations. I don’t like their donuts and yet every day I have to scroll through their listing for multiple of their locations. I wish there was a way to just hide the company as I will never purchase from there Again these are all things that would make me buy more and use this more. Great app and concept and I love it. Take my money!.Version: 23.11.11

THIS APP IS A WASTE OF YOUR TIME:STAY AWAYIf Apple allowed to rate an app with negative stars I would give this NEGATIVE TEN STARS. The first time I bought a surprise bag from a pizza joint, you had to show up at 11:30 at night. I get there and the restaurant is t even open Second time I buy a surprise bag from a bakery and half an hour before pick up I get a text message saying Oops there’s no food going to waste we’ll refund your money. Third time I buy a surprise bag from a different bakery. Again I get a text half an hour before pick up time: Oops there’s no food going to waste we’ll refund your money. Sorry but three strikes and you’re out! I’m deleting this app and telling everyone I know that it’s just an exercise in futility. They’ll probably delete this review. It’s a great concept but they really need vetting of their partners I’m thoroughly disgusted and disappointed. I’ll just buy whatever the cost of the surprise bag is in canned foods and take it to a local food bank! Shame on Too Good to go!!.Version: 23.4.10

Great app to reduce waste but Mixed feelingsI am 100% supporting the goals to reduce food waste and happily satisfied with the food from many biz who are happy to do the right thing. However, I don’t support rating the participants unless there is something wrong with their food. I have got food from different places but found that some of them were rated low just because the amount of food was smaller than others, even though it was still over 50% off. I believe quite a few people are rating the biz like yelp and Google. I feel bad if the ratings hurt the biz owners feelings while they are doing whatever they can to help save food and also make us happy to save food and the cost. Another thing I noticed is that the exact time to check their availability was added in recent updates which is most likely the cause of ridiculously high competition to get the limited amount of mystery bags from popular stores… I hope the time of release would be kept secret so that everyone has chance of getting one by luck!.Version: 22.5.0

Amazing app for saving moneyThis app is easy to use and food is extremely cheap. You can reserve multiple “surprise bags” and save good restaurants as favorites. Overall I’ve had a great experience. I will say that if you are a picky eater or have a lot of dietary restrictions, this app is not for you. You reserve a bag ahead of time and get whatever the restaurant or store has leftover at the end which can vary a lot. Also orders can be cancelled at the last minute if the restaurant sells out. This is all spelled out in the app before you order anything so as long as you read carefully, you should have a great experience. I paid $5 for a bag of pastries easily worth $20-25 and they were DELICIOUS. I’d suggest ordering 1 surprise bag from a few different places and seeing which places have the best deals and best food and understanding that it might be a little hit or miss at first. Excellent app!!! I look forward to even more restaurants and stores participating..Version: 23.3.10

Tired RN needs food asapI’m a busy night nurse and often when done with a crazy shift i want to eat something quick and easy that i don’t have to make. add to it the $$ i can save for good food and prevent WASTE 10/10. so i use TG2G occasionally for treats (s/o Chip City harvard sq) or meals (s/o DIGG & Alfredo’s kitchen!) there’s also a certain thrill of checking what’s available on the app and scoring 1 of the 5 surprise bags before others (they go fast!)~ downside to this app is the timeframe that food is offered for pickup is often very late for that eating period (either bfast, lunch or dinner). eg dinner surprise bag offered for pickup 10p-11:30p..late for eating dinner for most. but in actuality this is the entire purpose of the app/it’s concept because the point is places are getting rid of food that they would otherwise be wasting at the END of the day, hence would not offer din option @ start of real dinner times..if that even makes sense.. all in all, def recommend trying the app and i will continue to use it myself! :).Version: 25.9.0

Minimizing waste while allowing you to expand your palateToo Good To Go is just that too good of an app at what it does, which it aims to do in minimizing food waste. While the premise of each purchase is that you will receive fair market value equal to what you purchase, there is the inherent uncertainty and with it gamble that today the store you bought a surprise bag from will have lots of leftovers. As for the stores themselves, this app allows for them to minimize food waste, make a few dollars off of their leftovers, and reach a potentially new demographic of customer who at first try that store via this app but over time can become a new loyal customer. I believe in the idiom “waste not, want not” and with this app and how it seeks to achieve its purpose, I am convinced that TGTG has found that right balance in doing its part to help reduce food waste. Indeed, I kinda feel like a 5-star rating does injustice to the wonderful work that this app seeks to do..Version: 23.10.10

Love TGTG- but new issue to reportUPDATE: why can’t we adjust search distance for our location anymore??? What happened to the distance slider and the adjustable map???? This is a problem! ORIGINAL REVIEW:I love the concept/program and the app itself functions really well it’s very basic and easy to use. I’ve been able to report and resolve transaction issues reasonably well. The one small issue I have is that I occasionally get notifications on my iPhone that simply disappear- sometimes they seem to be a special offer or an announcement of a new business participating but only showing part of the message. When I go to expand or open to read the full message- it’s just gone. It usually just opens the app but the message is gone- nowhere in the app, I’m unable to re-call it on my home screen with other notifications. Very frustrating! I wonder- what information am I missing out on? Could the developers add a page to the app that shows all these messages or something??? I have an iPhone, iOS 18.3 and TGTG app is up to date.Version: 26.4.1

Good way to serve the community.I have used the app for about 4 times now only con is some places make you feel as if you begging and you didn’t pay for the food. Mind you a meal is only $3 Dollars less don’t act like you giving Mae a bag of food and I must take it..it is pretty good just wish you could narrow it down more so if you see something you also had already and didn’t like it you would have the option to now show it any more . In addition if the plates are not made as of yet give the option to at least choose if you want gravy or just not to add something that may turn ur meal off and make you waste it . Like one lady added spaghetti on top of my rice with beans n a piece of fish. Her reason was it had chicken in there but I was trying to tell her what she was giving me was fine . usually I don’t have any idea of what I wanna eat for the day and this kinda helps me know I’m eating something n hopefully I like it lol..Version: 24.8.0

Yummy in my tummy!I saw the ads & decided to try it out. I am so glad I did! This app is so great. Here’s some of the perks, reasons why I enjoy the app & recommend it to others. ^_^ 1. There are Vegetarian and Vegan filters which I use and very much appreciate. 🥰 2. It’s a great way to try new places to eat you otherwise might skip. Whether you are in a hurry or just are in the “feed me Seymour” mode. 🤤 3. It takes the time away from the “I’m so hungry but my brain is so foggy I can’t decide what to eat, what do you recommend?” conversation that I always have with the staff. They sometimes are in that frame of mind too and say idk or are grumpy. 🙊 Lol 4. It’s an affordable way to explore your local restaurants. There’s plenty of places I’ve wanted to try but think I just can’t afford it or I’m not willing to at their prices. 5. The pick up times differ. Some places close in the afternoon so you can get lunch too. This is best for planning ahead. 6. You have to pick it up usually anywhere from an hour to 30 minutes closing time. Which is a great reason to take a nice stroll and save on delivery fees and tip. 7. They only give you the tray of food portion sized. Prepare to bring your own utensils and bag if you’re in a hurry or want to eat right after picking it up. Otherwise, I imagine there will be a small separate charge for that. 8. Being mindful, conscious & reducing waste all around. What’s not to love? 🤔 I hope this helps someone enjoy some new tasty endeavors. May God bless you all in Jesus name. Amen 🙏🏼✝️.Version: 21.6.1

Smart IdeaThis is a really smart idea for an App! Food, mostly baked goods and donuts that are facing end of day appointments with the trash, gets spared at the 11th hour. I’ve had the App for 3 weeks and tried it 3 times and had 2 great successes and 1 failure! The 2 successes included Moon’s Donuts and Philz Coffee. Great deals and good amounts for the price paid. The failure was Sidecar Donuts. I ordered in the morning just to have them cancel on me minutes before my pickup time! Their reason was they sold out??!! I get the reason for this App was to basically rescue unpurchased food before end of day, but if Sidecar puts the deal out so early in the day for people to reserve, then technically, we, the ones who purchased these deals are customers before the last person who came in to purchase the last donut! That being said, it should never have been cancelled. I will NEVER make another purchase on this App for Sidecar again!.Version: 24.12.0

Probably just the greatest app to ever existToo good to go, has become an integral part of my life, as someone who really enjoys trying new things but doesn’t want to pay a bunch of money for something that I might not enjoy the ability to go to any of these restaurants on the app and pay half price for whatever they have lying around that’s about to get thrown out is perfect for me. On top of that I really care about what too good to go stands for, I worked in the restaurant business for years and the amount of food that just gets thrown away is appalling, especially knowing that there are people in the same communities starving, too good to go provide a second life for some of these products as well as providing them cheaper. Not only fighting the food, waste problem, but the affordability problem and helping the environment with less going to landfills. In my community, there are many businesses that have joined, some of my favorites being in a local health grocery store, a small chain of Boba tea, places, and a handful of local pizzerias and bakeries. These are places that typically have a lot that goes bad, stuff that gets thrown out, too good to go gives these businesses a chance not only to not waste perfectly edible food, but to make a little extra money and help their community. If I had one complaint for too good to go, it would simply be that many of the businesses that I wish would join. Haven’t yet, so many businesses I’m aware of that have horrific food waste. I’ve actually considered printing out my own custom flyers, but that would go against the principles of not wasting..Version: 26.3.0

GREAT COCEPT!!!!So, the idea of this app is awesome. I without a doubt, am rating 5 stars. I do feel a few things can be tweaked. My general area without having to travel is mostly pizzerias and bagel shops, which by no means is the app’s fault. But I’m not going to travel to pick up a meal at 10:00 at night. Like I said though, not the app's fault. While we see how many stars a establishment got, the one thing I would like to see is, actual customers reviews. While bags can differ from day to day, a review can give a future customer if the quality of their bag was good. For example, a pizzeria by me, loads their bags up with physically very old slices of pizza that appear to be from that morning when the place opened while another you would swear they just took it fresh out of the oven. But that’s it, if you could include actual reviews for actual establishments, that would make the app perfect. Keep up the good work..Version: 22.7.0

Some food items SHOULD go….I used this application and was extremely excited to (hopefully) get a great value with some decent food, but also to help the environment by reducing food waste. I selected a pizza place with a 4.6 rating out of 5 star rating. Seemed like a good start for my TGTG experience. The claim was that I would receive “a $15 dollar meal for $4.99”. Great deal I thought. EXCELLENT DEAL!!! Anyway, what I received in my suprise bag WAS a surprise. 5 slices of pizza that looked like thad sat out for 8+ hours. 1 pepperoni slice, 2 sausage slices, 1 margarita slice and 1 white broccoli. My issue… this is not “a meal”. It’s scraps. I would rather have taken that $5, gone to the store and made my own (better and fresh) meal. I give the application 3 stars due to the good idea, the ease of use, and the whole process (how smoothly it went). However… the product that you will get, the actual “food”. PEOPLE… do not do it unless you don’t mind eating 8 hour old food (which hey, a lot of you do judging by all the high star ratings). The food you will get….. it SHOULD HAVE GONE!!.Version: 23.3.1

Timing is key but the quality of food and money savings is worth it!This app saves both money and time! If you’re not a picky eater, but need to eat healthy at an affordable rate, this app is for you! While there are tons of stores on this app with a variety of food, what makes this app so good is when you find the few that work for your daily schedule and diet. These deals are generally later in the day (understandable), but for you that might include staying at the library an extra hour or hitting the gym right before or just enjoying the city a bit longer - which is probably what you came to nyc for. Include TGTG pickups at the right time and you can use it as a motivation to maximize your time in the city! It’s also a perfect app for scheduling your meals and recording your diets. Research the stores a bit, test some things out, and begin to schedule your daily routine with the right food and the right stores (price will always be on your side). The only ask I would have would be on the user experience. When it comes to filtering, I wish I could filter based on time. I would also love to have a personal page where I can keep tabs of my favorites instead of it just being one of the many generic lists. If you make it a more seamless search engine and personalized experience, hardly anyone can refuse the deals and quality of food..Version: 24.3.0

App is easy to navigate, the concept is even betterI was told about this app like 4-5 years ago and at the time they did not have any establishments participating in my area or really any smaller metropolitan cities near me. I kept checking back in every so often to see if that had changed and it finally has within the last year I believe. Although, I didn’t immediately get on and start ordering surprise bags, I would keep an eye on it. Well I finally got one from Whole Foods and it was $10 for 3 premade meals (all I happened to like thankfully) and considering the original prices for these meals, it was not too bad of a deal I’d say. All that to say, I love the concept of this app/company. You are able to discover new places you might not consider trying like coffee shops or bakeries and you get to help with food waste while also helping your wallet. 10/10.Version: 24.9.22

Great idea but a long way to goThis review is for San Francisco. The concept is a great idea but it’s not very practical in SF. First, there aren’t many restaurants participating so in order to get food you often have drive across the city at a specific time. Waste of gas, time and a parking nightmare. Second, the portions are horribly small. You have to order two to three orders to complete a real meal. Thus, you’re paying full price for mystery food that you might not even like. Last, the apps review system is misleading which is a big strike against the app. You’ll see the reviews say something like “80% of users give this restaurant at least three stars”. That sounds like a good review “80%”. But it’s not. Three stars isn’t a good rating. And you can’t see comments about why that restaurant got such poor reviews. I ordered from two restaurants in one day and like one and the other was a joke. I spent over an hour driving around town to pick up the food. Not worth it in any sense. Great idea but not practical as current set up..Version: 21.6.3

Great app terrible businesses associatedI think the app is truly a great concept and it can definitely help both businesses and consumers. However in my experience using the app some businesses are essentially using the service to turn trash into profit rather than potential waste into a decent meal. Prices vary based on business some businesses charge $10 for literal scraps. There needs to be some sort of quality control or some sort of requirement. I shouldn’t have to toss out the food they give because it’s just inedible. We should be able to leave visible reviews on the restaurants we ordered from so there’s more transparency. After having 2 bad experiences in a row I cannot be the only one feeling like with the popularity of the app abuse is inevitable. If a visible review is shared on the app I think it would keep businesses more honest and prevent a bit of nonsense. I don’t expect the best of the best or an over abundance but I definitely don’t want to pay $5-10 then come home and throw away inedible food..Version: 24.2.0

What’s the point of vegetarian/vegan settings if restaurant isn’t notified?I’ve heard of TooGoodToGo for awhile & was excited when it started to spread around Los Angeles. I have mine set to vegetarian/vegan which obviously limits the restaurants & coffee shops that come up which is good. HOWEVER, what’s the point of using these settings when I order bags (from mostly coffee shops) & am routinely given meat products I can’t eat? I then have to throw them out. Restaurants should be given notice that a vegetarian/vegan ordered, that way they can cancel the bag for someone else to order if it’s a meat product or just swap/substitute with someone who isn’t (ex: give one person two croissants & one two ham sandwiches instead of one of each to both). I’ve ordered about a dozen bags & thrown out items in half of them, a few the whole bag (got slices of pizza with meat on them). I understand you get what’s left at the end, but why list a place under vegetarian/vegan when there’s a very good chance you won’t be able to eat what they give you?.Version: 22.8.10
