Fender Tone App Comments & Reviews

Fender Tone Positive Reviews

Great app, keep up the good workThe negative reviews are definitely from people who don’t understand how to run an amp or an app. Connect your amp to WiFi, simply update it like the owners manual says and run the latest app. It’s that easy. I guess pressing one button while turning on the amp is too hard for some people to understand. I have 10+ amps, everything from a Randall stack to vintage tube amps, tons of pedals, and yet I always seem to use my GT200 with the app more than all the others. If you actually understand how an amp works, then this app with a GT series amp is all you need. Wether you’re in your basement practicing, gigging outdoors, or anything in between. If you’re a person who just want to plug in your guitar, have a crappy tone, and just make noise, then stick with your Peavey amp and a First Act strat copy and call if a day. No need to leave a bad review just because you finally purchased a big boy amp and you don’t know how to run it..Version: 3.0.4

Very handy addition to the amp!If I were able to do a half-star, I would’ve rated the app 4.5; it’s a very nice app, but has a few nuisances. It’s a great way to immediately access certain presets without having to scroll through the whole list to get to the ones you want, and it’s very handy for creating/editing presets. This is especially true when renaming them; doing it from the amp is a time-consuming pain. It’s also nice to not have to put the guitar down or hang over the amp whenever you want to change something or adjust volume, you can just do it real quick from your phone. The only issue I have is that the connectivity can be troublesome. My phone will have a hard time finding the amp through Bluetooth and usually have to resort to restarting the amp, occasionally twice over. Restarting the amp does usually do the trick, I originally wasted a lot of time trying many other methods to get around this obstacle. Once it is connected, though, the app is very resourceful and highly recommended. It’s worth the starting-up hassle when all is said and done..Version: 3.1.2

It’s nice to see a hardware company do software wellOver and over there are examples of hardware companies, especially legacy companies like Fender, totally botch modern products that incorporate software and digital interfaces. I have gone from a tube, tweed Fender Blues Jr. to a Boss ME-80 pushing a Blackstar solid state amp to a Fender GTX-100 and I gotta admit, while they completely botched the foot switch, they got the software right. It’s simple, easy to navigate and very intuitive; especially the iPad version. Nicely done Fender. What? You want to know the issues with the foot switch? Sure, I’d love to tell you. First, the buttons are LOUD! Ker-chunk with every press. I have many pedals and they all have a nice, somewhat delicate click. This thing is loud. Second, I have several looper pedals AND HERE IS HOW THEY ALL WORK. YOU PRESS TO RECORD AND PRESS THE SAME BUTTON TO START THE LOOP. NOT ANOTHER PEDAL TWO BUTTONS TO THE LEFT. this means that with some intricate loops I have to look away from my guitar to make sure I click a foot button that is two buttons to the right. Stupid. Almost like the didn’t try it themselves. Third, the included cord is crappy and you cannot use a third party cord. At least mine won’t work. And I’m talking real quality cords! You know, Fender, you should have had the software guys hold the foot switch..Version: 3.2.10

Great Amp, Good SoftwareI use this app to control a Fender Mustang GTX. The amp itself sounds terrific. The Tone app isn’t perfect, but it does its job well enough that I can’t really complain. The main UI for configuring signal chain and managing presets is very intuitive and extremely flexible (compared to my previous “smart” amp, the Spark). Some other areas of the app can start to feel a little clunky, and the connection between amp/iPad drops more often than I would like. But I consider these minor issues; overall the app does what it was designed to do and gets out of my way. Fender gets some criticism for not providing continuous app or amp updates, but I think this is a little unfair. In my opinion the software/firmware is very solid and doesn’t have any major bugs to address. It’s unrealistic to expect Fender to continue delivering free updates. I would rather have a solid amp with no updates as opposed to a mediocre amp with continuous updates..Version: 3.2.7

Modern Age AmplifierWhat a difference to be able to have built-in presets that change your Rumble 800 Stage bass amplifier to match the most popular amplifiers of all time in history. It like have a bunch of different bass amplifiers in your studio and switching from one to another on the fly with the turn if a knob. Then on top of that having the ability of creating your own sound that you created yourself. Forgot all those pedals you used to carry around and use the amp to build your own pedals that are like the classics of the past. Included is a multi function 4 button floor pedal that does looping and effects that you program yourself. Plain and short now you have a modern Bass Amplifier that can do pretty much anything..Version: 2.0.1

App and Amp are so cool together...Using the Fender Mustang GT 100 as a beginner I thought would be too much amp for me but it makes learning wonderfully fun and the app helps considerably. Only practice can make someone a better guitar player but there is something to be said for being able to hear such beautiful and unique tone coming through. Presets from other users further inspire my own creativity and, though I am just starting out, the motivation to find my own tone is there. I was able to grasp how to use the app right away and find myself exploring features both using the controls on the amp or through the app. Great design and all around great product. I’m having a blast!.Version: 2.1.5

I was an early adopter...I got my GT 40 when they were first released and it has only gotten better and better with firmware updates and the Tone app. Aside from the crappy headphone jack (which I don’t use and couldn’t even if I wanted to anymore) this amp has been a favorite of mine. And now the v3 version is next level. Love the Blues Jr. model. And the new UI is excellent. It’s so great that my amp sounds better now, by a long shot than it did when I got it (2017?). Thanks. Now my only question is to get the GTX or just keep my GT 40 till it melts down one day!!!.Version: 3.0.6

Would be more useable with less eye candyThe functionality of the app is great: it lets you tweak the amp's sound, and edit and create presets. This saves you from having to walk over to the amp and lean over it to see the controls. I really appreciate being able to do this wirelessly. But the UX is eye-candy at the expense of usability, with a lot of wasted space. The realistic pedal graphics mean the pedal's name is pretty small; on an iPhone it’s unreadably tiny in the patch overview, which defeats the purpose of that screen. Meanwhile, in the detail view everything’s nice and big but you can only see one pedal at a time. On an iPad screen there would be plenty of room to show multiple pedals at once. The only missing functionality seems to be marking a preset as a favorite, or assigning to a playlist in general. I’ve tried and failed to find a way to do it. Fortunately it’s easy to do on the amp. In the few hours I’ve used the app I’ve had it get out of sync with the amp once or twice (showing a different patch than the one the amp is using), and one time the amp itself entirely froze while I was using the app and I had to reboot it..Version: 3.1.6

Game-changer in the modeling amp space!Decent amp but the companion Tone App makes it fantastic and a compelling force on the modeling amp landscape. I own the Mustang III v2 yet couldn’t resist the additional purchase of the new GT 100. After a couple years of perfecting Fender Fuse and still struggling to embrace it, The Tone App blows fuse out of the water and makes this whole tone control, tone presets and amp modeling thing fun again! Sorry Fender but yes, the Mustang III, V2 does have a slightly better sound and I wish GT was equal but it sounds good enough and with a little manipulation with tones using this amazing and easy to use app you can find your sound! My only requests so far for future release... 1. Preset back up in a cloud! 2. A quicker way while in a preset to save it directly to a saved “Playlist” (or several) vs saving the preset and having to go all the way back to a Playlist, finding the new tone and then adding it. 3. Adding Wah pedal functionality using the app vs going over to the amp Outstanding job Fender App team, keep up the good work and don’t abandon this like they did Fuse and can’t wait for future updates!!!.Version: 1.3.1

Won’t connect to GT100, wants older firmware. The new Tone app freaks out about the NEW firmware on my GT100 (not GTX100). I have the newest 3.0.43 on my amp as I literally did a firmware update and then when it alerted to a new firmware on the app, I tried a “Full Firmware Update” to the amp just before writing this review just in case. However, the most newest firmware on the Fender website is listed as 3.0.31... I believe that the Tone app is looking for that firmware and is popping up a message to update the amp. It refuses to even connect to the amp until they update this app in the App Store to reflect the most current firmware in its internal change log. When it worked, it was OK to use. But still preferred the physical knobs. Was hoping to see the new changes, but that isn’t possible at this time..Version: 3.0.4

Everything About it is UnreliableI’ve had problems with it crashing multiple times, I’ve had to recreate an account, my presets have not uploaded correctly, my presets can’t be deleted after I upload them, the support seemed helpless as The gentleman at Fender couldn’t understand any of these problems and couldn’t communicate in a timely manner... probably wasn’t going to buy products from them again unless these problems were solved quickly. That said, Fender did show that they cared about these issues are are now working to get them resolved. I am sure and confident future updates to the app and firmware will only improve the user experience.Version: 1.3.2

Updated app is horribleI bought a Mustang GTX a few months ago and absolutely loved it, and just as important as the amp’s tone, was this iPad interface app. It was fantastic until this update. I’ve spend an hour trying to figure out how to delete a preset and gave up. The preset controls are a mess and it is ridiculous that you eliminated the actual presets from the view with the preselect menu. I quite frankly am shocked at how bad this update is from such a reputable company. Please give us the old app back until you fix all the bugs in the update. This is horrible..Version: 4.0.1

Only one complaintAwesome amp (GTX100) and app. My only beef is that there isn’t a virtual pedal that would control the master amp volume. If you are using the XLR out there is no way to control the volume with the EXP-1 in either volume or expression mode. Sure, the amp speaker is affected but XLR out is always maxed. This makes the XLR output useless for live gigs. There is a workaround where you can control the eq-5 pedal and use the EXP-1 to control gain but it’s not the greatest. I don’t want to drive gain, just volume..Version: 3.2.6

Great, but Totally UnreliableI was very excited to see the 2.0 firmware update for the Mustang GT as I love this amp - when it works. Unfortunately, the amp has a habit of cutting out randomly during use. It will behave briefly as if a noise gate's threshold is raising, until it overtakes all sound from the guitar. Then volume just seems to decay until it's entirely give. Sometimes changing the preset, and then changing back temporarily fixed things.. sometimes it doesn't, and you need to restart the whole amp. Very frustrating, and totally unusable for a live performance. Fender, please please fix this bug so this amp and Fender Tone can live up to its 5-star potential!.Version: 2.0.0

Love this amp but Bluetooth is awfulThis amp is great when it works. However, each time I want to use it over Bluetooth, I have to spend 15-20 minutes turning off, turning on, rebooting, un-pairing, re-pairing, uninstalling, reinstalling…and so on and so on. This could easily be confirmed in Fenders own test labs on one of its own devices instead of putting end-users through these amateur-ish fixes that we have already tried a dozen times before even contacting Fender. This issue is on Fenders end and needs to be fixed there. Please Fender, provide a firmware upgrade that addresses this issue..Version: 3.2.0

Ver 4.0.0 Problems - Some fixed in 4.0.1EDIT: moving my rating from 1 to 3 stars (it was 5 before the 4.0 update). In 4.0.1 they did fix the biggest problem for me which was the ability to search the Tone Cloud, and a few other things. But it is still not back to as good as it was before they started messing with it. Why mess with something that was working well in the 3.xx version? ORIGINAL: After updating the app to 4.0.0 I can no longer access the Tone Cloud. Many others in my Facebook group are reporting same issue. Is a fix on the way?.Version: 4.0.1

GT 100 AmpI am so proud to own this GT-100. I would have never believed that a Amp could do so much. I’m 58 yrs. and have been playing guitar since I was 10. I have recently decided that it’s time for me to learn how to play lead. And that’s why I bought this amp. The technology on Fenders Amp is simply unbelievable. I prefer southern rock you should here this amp playing train train by Blackfoot. Or Tuesday gone with the wind LS. I have already learned lead on black magic women. I salute the Fenders Engineer s designers and all of there employees! Well done..Version: 2.0.1

Preset does not match ampThe app would be great in my eyes if it just worked reliably. I don’t get the same disconnecting issues but the glaring thing to me is the presets on the app sometimes do not match the amp. At times I can’t tell to trust the app or amp (but I do lean on just checking the amp). It’s very weird if you try to edit one of the erroneous presets in the app because it’ll sometimes miss the fx of then preset on the amp. Either way that is weird so please fix it Fender. I like the app so I cm easily scroll through the library of presets - it’d be great if it matched the amp 100%..Version: 2.1

Still buggy but will be nice when fixedI have upgraded my amp to the new firmware and the iOS app is updated but when I try to select some of my presets, it switches back to a different preset automatically. I don’t know what that is all about but something in the software is screwed up and if I would have known about the issue before I upgraded my amp, I would have waited for it to get debugged. I have already submitted the issue to support but have not yet received anything yet. Fingers crossed! I really like this amp and would hate to see it crippled by crappy software..Version: 3.0.1

Fender Tine Version 3.0 -nice upgrade!Very nice upgrade to an app and amp I enjoy working, experimenting, and playing with. I’ve been a Fender Amp player for 50+ years now. The Bogner amp was a nice addition along with your Blues JR and Vibro-King. The GUI of each amp & pedal saved settings is impressive too!! Thanks for fixing the ‘ bug too. Can’t wait for the next version upgrade with more amps and pedal effects. BTW, I love the Mustang GT 100 so much, I bought three. One for my studio, live stage, and a backup!! Thanks Fender..Version: 3.0.1

Great app but having issues *resolvedEdit: responsive developers always trying their best to improve the app. My problem was resolved 5 stars, Fender keep doing you—you’re doing great! I updated my amp to version 3.0.43 but when I connect it to the app, the app keeps stating there is a “tone/amp update”. My amp is definitely on the latest version and so is the app. I’m a little confused here..Version: 3.1.3

Great app that provides accessibility for people who are blind using voiceover with their iPhoneI have looked around for many apps that work with my electric guitar amp. I am blind, and there are very few applications that can actually be used by somebody who is blind on their iPhone. This application is very usable and provides unlimited amounts of modifications in settings. Very nice good job..Version: 3.2.11

Mostly great. MostlyI don’t know if it loses Bluetooth connection frequently or what but that “Syncing In Progress” or whatever that message is comes up far too often. Fender needs to fix 2 things; the Mesa amp models have no controls in the app. No gain, volume, nothing. Secondly, the cloud backup does not always work. It seems that the first time in the day that I attempt a backup, it works. If I try again with a more updated backup, it fails every time. Stupid..Version: 3.1.2

Great control and accessibilityAwesome app. Gives you pretty much complete control of your amp and effects chain and settings. Lets you make changes or adjustments and try new tones on the fly without having to save them. Exactly what I was looking for. I like you you can delete the cabinet simulation from the amp setting to open up the sound too..Version: 3.1.2

Needs Interface Like The AmpIt okay but it needs to have the interface like the amp itself. When I open the app there should be a better interface like what is on the amp before I go to make changes. It’s as if I’m already in the menus when I open the app. Being able to see all the current settings to start and then being able to tweak just what I want from that interface again like the interface on the amp would make much more sense..Version: 2.0.1

Search issueCan you please fix the search option in the download section? First, you can’t see what you’re typing in and then, once you find what you’re looking for, the search option is gone. Only way I’ve been able to get around it is to close the application and restart. Which requires the app and amp to reconnect. Really frustrating and really annoying..Version: 3.1.5

Using the modeler just got way easierThe interface really opens up the potential of this amp and lets you dig deep into the features. Fenders app developers made an intuitive and easy to use GUI. What I would love to see in future is an offline mode to create presets when inspiration is on but the amp is off..Version: 3.2.3

OriginalMais difficile à saisir le mode de fonctionnement.Version: 3.2.4

Bad updateBad update. I can’t figure out how to search presets made by others.Version: 4.0.0

Need better soundsIt’s ok there needs to be more definition in sounds more tone more unique deeper sounds.Version: 3.2.9

Wish ListI am still definitely in love with this app and with my GTX100. The very top of my wish list for a feature enhancement to this application would be: The ability to Copy a specific instance of a specific amp/effect and then user goes to desired destination patch AND effect to access the Paste. There are already tons of patch memory slots, so allocating a few to my "all my favourite settings for my amps and effects" master patches..Version: 3.2.6

Great app with a couple connectivity issuesThis app for the mustang gt series makes them the best practice amp out there , I would give it five stars but sometimes it's a pain to connect , other then that it's AMAZING. Also waaaay better tone from this then the line 6.Version: 3.2.2

Mustang GTXNice amp I like the solid wood cabinet and the speaker and the software I struggle with the Bluetooth and Wifi consistency it’s just not there. Love the amp but if you’re going to gig with it turn off the wifi and Bluetooth.Version: 3.2.2

Firmware issueSo I recently bought a new GTX 50 amp. I’ve been wanting to try the fender tone app for a while since I was never able to use it on my old amp. The day I opened it, I downloaded some effects I wanted and had a good time with them. Since that day, I’ve been unable to download anymore effects due to a “Limited Functionality” popup on the app whenever I press add. I have updated my amp’s firmware 3 times and have been told there were no updates available. My amp is on version 3.0.96 and am still unable to download presets due to this issue. How do I fix this problem? I have reconnected to wifi multiple times, re-downloaded the app, checked for updates on the amp and nothing has worked..Version: 3.2.1

Tuner modeThis app is a great way to work my Fender Mustang GTX 50. I truly enjoy using it rather using the controls on the amp itself or switching with the foot switch. I wish there was a way to see the tuner on my iPhone and iPad. A tuner mode feature viewable on my devices in all amp settings would be a major plus for me being a paraplegic and in a power wheelchair I can not use the foot switch on the floor. Or at the very least a tuner effect pedal..Version: 3.1.6

Just about the best thing ever!!A perfect thing to have on a budget, truly excellent and uncompromising!.Version: 3.1.6

Almost perfect...The ability to drag/drop pedals in your effects chain would be helpful. Also, the ability to assign effect to the stomp switches on the amp’s foot switch any way you like is pretty essential IMHO. Lastly, parameter adjustment on the effects should be a) much less sensitive and b) have the ability to input values using the device’s “keyboard”..Version: 3.1.4

A Better Way to TweakThis is a lot easier to use than the encoder wheel/menu buttons on the amp. I like that you can see the signal chain with pictures that make it easier to guess what effect/amp it's trying to emulate too. Further to that, it would be very handy if there were descriptions of the amps/cabs/effects in the app - the way there is in the manual - for those of us that aren't gear connoisseurs. A "what's new" tab would be nice too. 'More effects and amps added' just isn't descriptive enough for me 😁.Version: 3.0.1

CoolVraiment bien j’aimerais simplement savoir sy ces possible de poser des questions.Version: 3.1.1

Great app, BUT ...Mostly happy with this app. Lots of tones with great visual effects. However, when the GTX amp and the phone are paired and you get a phone call, the software needs to disconnect from the amp so you can answer the call. As it is now, when the call comes in you have to first go to Bluetooth settings to disconnect the amp in order to hear the caller..Version: 3.1.1

Infinite tone optionsApp makes almost infinite tonal options, the new interface for signal chain looks great and easy to work with. You can listen to any song and replicate it really, really well. Bluetooth always works flawlessly and same with Bluetooth streaming. I started getting issues with the pedal working on custom tones. Pressing the tune footswitch would do nothing as well as switching through effects. Contacted customer and they helped tremendously. Niko.Version: 3.1.1

Needs more bug fixes and contentGreat for adjust your own settings however many little bugs that get annoying. Needs more user submitted content and fender made presets of varying artists.Version: 1.1

App update erased all my presetsSame here list all my presets. Where they still on my amp and different on the updated amp? Can I put my amp presets on the tone app on my phone? Thanks.Version: 3.0.1

Simply AmazingEasy to learn and connect and update. Crazy good sounds for a practice amp. Makes me practice longer. Joy!.Version: 2.1.4

Great App...Great Amp...One WeaknessI am a Rumble user and love the app and the Amp. My only issue is I would love to be able to create and modify patches when not connected to the Amp. Sometimes I am away from the Amp and an idea hits me. It would be great to create a patch..Version: 2.0.1

EasyVery easy to navigate and set up.Version: 2.0.1

Pretty frustratingI brought home my GT-40 and was excited to start playing around with it. Unfortunately this app has taken a lot of the fun out of that. It was a pain to get it to connect via Bluetooth. Fortunately I was able to get the amp connected to WiFi so I could update the firmware but since that it’s been a pain. If I go to download any presets it tells me I need newer firmware even though it’s on the latest version. I guess I can change the presets from the amp itself but I was hoping that the app would make it easier to operate so I could experiment more freely. I sincerely hope that the app gets fixed ____________________________________________________________________ Update: The new version (3.0) is far better. Blue Tooth connectivity is more intuitive and streaming is easier. I love the visual representation of the different components. This is actually fun now!.Version: 3.0.0
