Best Job site I’ve used!Tried Indeed, Trello, LinkedIn jobs, all of them pale in comparison to handshake. The ui alone and innovative way to search for jobs is a selling point that can beat any other site out there. It may not have the amount of jobs like indeed, but you can find good ones very quickly that are the perfect fit for you. My school, IUPUI uses handshake and I was able to find an opportunity as a freshman, I was a freshman!
I have only seen jobs pertaining to the technology sector, software engineer to data analyst type stuff. That’s because that’s all I’m interested in right now. However, the DM system where companies can reach out to you, or you can reach out to recruitment managers is an amazing addition to an already great job hunting experience. Try it out!.LegoGuy32109Version: 4.6.0
This app was great at first!Handshake is easy to use, I like that you can message employers and take to recruiters directly. I got my first internship through handshake and I am extremely grateful. Recently the app has gone down hill. It’s becoming more and more like indeed and LinkedIn. If I search for a role I get jobs that are completely unrelated to the job search or I’m not qualified for. I was under the impression that this app was best suited for students/college graduates looking for entry level roles but many of the roles I’ve seen require 5+ years of experience. I’m not sure if Handshake is trying to appeal to a new market but it’s making it a lot harder to use and enjoy this app. Handshake don’t let us down!
Update: I stil LOVE the fact that they never have scam jobs. I can use the app and look for opportunities (although many of them don’t match what I’m looking for) without worrying about if it’s a scam :).BbronzeGoddessVersion: 5.2.0
Essential for Career Success!Handshake has been a total game-changer for my job search and career development. From internships to full-time roles, this app connects you directly with opportunities tailored to your skills and interests. The interface is clean, intuitive, and easy to navigate, making the entire process seamless. What I love most is the personalized job and content recommendations and how you can connect with recruiters and employers directly. It’s like having a career advisor in your pocket! The app also offers access to career fairs, workshops, and insightful events to help you grow professionally. I can’t recommend this app enough to students and recent grads—it’s a must-have for anyone serious about their career. Download it now. Your future self will thank you!.ParnyaBVersion: 5.30.0
Love the program…App FreezesI absolutely love Handshake, but the app freezes every time I try to load a job to see more about it. It goes to load, and then I get the spinning circle of perpetual waiting. It’s very frustrating as, even in the mobile version, it does the same thing. I have deleted the app and downloaded it again to see if that resolved the issue; it didn’t. Please fix these issues, I would love to effectively use your program..Emface26Version: 3.19.0
Lots of irrelevant job postings and spamI do really like how there’s lots of job postings on this app, but I’ve noticed that a good amount of them are just irrelevant to what I’m looking for (even though I put in my preferences into my profile). This results in what feels like a lot of spam from this app, as I keep getting messages which say “You’re a good match for this employer,” just to open it up and find out that it’s an engineering job and I never studied engineering in my life.
The other thing I find highly irritating about this app are the “apply externally” applications. You click on apply externally, only for it to open up the website within your the app, rather than on a separate browser (like Safari). I wish it would open up externally, but it doesn’t..SkettckVersion: 5.23.0
Needs a lot more improvementsI’ve been using this app since graduating in August of 2022. Posted this ending of April 2023. A lot of these jobs aren’t entry level for an app that aims to help college students their first job. It would help knowing how many applicants there are in the process so you know what to expect as far as a response and wait time. Most companies don’t even update the status on your application from pending to declined. Also, when trying to view the multiple locations on a job post through the mobile version, it doesn’t actually show you anything but goes to the employer profile. There are problems loading when the employer decides to upload 2 pages worth of requirements for their job description..Ola boyVersion: 4.43.0
Reporting System? The website is a good way for employers to reach out to students. There are a few issues with a lot of the employers on the app, like they often list the opportunity as paid to get more students to see the post even if they do not plan to pay. This could be easier to avoid if the app allowed you a way to report employers like this. On the mobile app I don’t think they give you an option to report and on the website it doesn’t let you submit the report. The website doesn’t allow you to send links to the employer as well, which is annoying because many of them are asking for online portfolio links and not files..DjcnnrjdskVersion: 5.12.1
Needs to be a way to block direct messaging from recruitersThis app is basically a way for recruiters to meet their quotas by spamming a bunch of people with jobs that are irrelevant to them. I receive at least two messages a day from out of state recruiters encouraging me to apply to jobs that have nothing to do with my degree. I did enjoy browsing the job postings and sometimes it is a great way to talk with someone directly from a company but I got spammed way more than what it's worth. Also, started getting logged out every single time I closed the app. I get redirected through my school login to get back into the app which is a hassle..Chellllll27Version: 4.25.1
Handshake is great exceptI’m coming in here to report a problem where when I’m trying to look at the employers that will be present at my school it won’t let me scroll for the whole list. It will jump me to the button where I registered for the event. This is so annoying because I’m simply just trying to look at the employer so I can plan my visits and meanwhile voiceover and I’m taking me to the registration button. I use Handshake on an iPhone 13 with voiceover and would really appreciate if you could fix this. Thank you..Caroline CarbaughVersion: 5.1.0
Amazing work resourceHandshake, Its user-friendly interface and extensive network make it a valuable tool for students and professionals alike. The ability to connect with employers and access a wide range of job and internship opportunities makes Handshake a go-to resource for career development. Additionally, its personalized recommendations and intuitive features streamline the job application process, making it an essential tool for anyone navigating the modern job market..Jkush14Version: 4.60.1
Works well for intended purpose butThere is no way to manage what emails you get sent and you can only unsubscribe from specific things when they get sent to you. When I tried to searching how to block emails it would only tell me how to resubscribe. Yes to apply to jobs this app is fully capable, but it’s manipulative/dark UX and just annoying to not allow the user to change those settings. I have lost all respect for the company I previously had. I expect this from scams and cheap money grab apps not a service used by universities and businesses..AmbientGibberishVersion: 4.26.0
Too wide search resultsThe app is ok, and the results do match well for search terms unlike some other job apps. My complaint is that the search area is way too wide. I’m north of Baltimore and my results are for DC and northern VA. The website lets you narrow it by distance but the app does not. I hope this changes because otherwise I can see this being a good, useful app. I just don’t have time to look through all these jobs I’d never apply to..Anthony1480Version: 2.1.1
Latest update needs fixing!Hello, whilst this is a fantastic app and I’ve been using it for a year now, the latest update seems to not allow mobile users to expand the job description. Whenever I click on a job posting, it always trails off with “…” at the end and I cannot find out what the requirements are in order to apply. I’ve been waiting for awhile to see any new updates, but there still is this error.
Please kindly fix this error!.Rosy863Version: 4.31.0
Site for sales jobs?“I’ve noticed that you’ve been studying for [insert major here]. Here’s a job totally unrelated but I’ll keep spamming you.”
Why isn’t there a function to block people? Why should I have to get notified every time these recruiters send the exact same message?
Handshake team, I would really love to see some function on the student/alumni side to block recruiters..JoeboblioVersion: 4.39.1
This App Is GreatOverall I enjoy using Handshake. I think it’s very useful since there are so many ways of interacting with other people as well as finding great jobs that can’t be found elsewhere. I also enjoy the exclusiveness of the media feed, being how this app is mainly for college students. Thanks for this app (and the recent update) and thank you for reading my review!.X-Ray AlexanderVersion: 5.15.0
Login doesn’t workUsed to be pretty good, but now it just asks me to create a new account even though I already have a .edu with my university.
Update: Apparently, my university changed the email to be used with Handshake. It is still the same for receiving emails, but with some added characters for Handshake...some sort of alias perhaps? I don’t know the reason of this, but now it works..KarahbitVersion: 2.1.12
Some issues. Other parts workFor starters, saving jobs on the app and website is a huge problem. Sometimes you can’t unsave. When you apply to the job, it stays saved (and you can’t undo this sometimes). Saving is bugged
It would also be nice to view documents on mobile or even edit/change things. Basically, some features available on the website are still not on mobile
Other parts work fine just like the website.AnonyviewerZVersion: 4.26.1
Great concept and communication but no follow throughI really enjoy the different aspects of the app however I find when messaging one on one with employers or talent acquisition managers that I can’t click in the chat the links that you’re trying to send to me it always sends a message saying there’s an error and to try again and every time I do it repeats the same message. Then end up having to ask the employer or the person I’m talking to on chat to send me the link separately..Madster.is.hereVersion: 4.19.0
Good but missing needed featuresMy school uses handshake to connect students with jobs so I got the app because I’m a senior and am actively looking for jobs. The app is good but you can’t delete messages and there is no setting that allows you to only allow a certain type of messages. I keep getting messages from irrelevant jobs that have nothing to do with my major and barely require a degree. The app just needs better functionality. Otherwise, it’s a decent tool for job searching..Mystery1000000Version: 3.9.1
Great, focused app for job search, just one minor critiqueOverall a great app to use, it’s streamlined for the purpose of job search and nothing more. I just wish there was an option to open external applications in separate browsers, such as Safari or Firefox. Mainly because some sites do break the built in browser, and it’s a little annoying trying to find the exact job listing outside of handshake..TryingTheirBestVersion: 5.23.0
“Something went wrong, please try again.”I keep getting this message pop up everytime I’m in the app and it can’t find my school in search anymore. I deleted the app and re-downloaded it again and the issue persists stil.
The app was working FINE all this time and then this issue idk what’s wrong with it.

Better than LinkedIn for StudentsI can’t rave about Handshake more. As a college student, Handshake has connected me to a myriad of internship opportunities, company professional development events, and recruiters. I love that it fosters a space where hiring teams and coordinators typically reach out first, so you can gage what your background qualifies you for..Ninadiva03Version: 5.10.0
Needs some improvementsThe site and app are useful, but you can’t save jobs on the app and have them appear in your profile on the site. Why? Also the messages you send cannot be seen in the app. Everything else seems to be linked though. I would really love to be able to save jobs on my phone app and then apply for them using my pc..Ltharvey87Version: 4.54.0
App browser needs improvementThe app itself is great, laid out well with meaningful suggested content. However, it uses its own in app browser to apply for positions that can’t be done in the app itself, which leads to compatibility problems with more than a handful of larger sites (usps for example). It really needs the option to use the system web browser instead of the app. This ruins the experience for those cases..NeighborSamVersion: 5.6.0
Wonderful app but…I can only say the bad thing about this app is that if you’re not a college student you’re out of luck obviously, would be nice to see if devs figure out a way to make an app or Version in the app for people who aren’t in college and don’t have the ability to go to college but still have the skill set for said jobs. Otherwise this app is wonderful..SKRILLE9000Version: 4.47.1
Good app, but missing featuresThe app is well designed and easy to use. It could use an iPad version.
The search tool is useful, but a way to filter by only work-study jobs, and filter by “quick apply” jobs.
MANY jobs posted aren’t real, and you actually have to apply separately after finishing your Handshake one. I wish I could filter those out..EvanElevenRodenVersion: 4.7.0

Handshake Jobs & New Careers Negative Reviews
Still Job Searching (app needs a lot of work)I hate leaving a bad review, but there is no way to contact anyone for feedback. I got this app as an alumni and the career department of my school recommended. This app needs a lot of work. I am look for a remote position. There is no option to put this in your search or on your profile. Also I don’t know what the point of having a profile is because every recruiter that contacts me obviously doesn’t even look at it. They also ignore my job preferences. I often get messages about jobs outside of my field and nowhere near where I live. Most of the messages I get from the recruiters are similar messages over and over. Even when I respond that the job is not what I’m look for and that they are not remote and out of state the recruiters ignore it and later respond with the same job with a similar if not the same message that was sent to me before. It’s so bad that I would equate it to spam. Please fix this. I should only be getting jobs that are relevant to my job preferences. Why even have a job preferences page if it doesn’t work?
Please add the option to filter results for remote work, add remote work to job preferences page and fix it so my job preferences and profile aren’t ignored by the recruiters..Reviewer 4321Version: 4.28.1
InfluencersHandshake is what my college said use and move on. University of South Carolina verified my profile. My area has NO jobs available. Handshake business sponsors spam users with job offers completely unaffiliated with your major or career direction, and to make the spam worse, jobs are over 300 miles away. Handshake will shadow ban and limit your profile if you speak the truth about the job market during the economic crisis that is building. Positivity doesn’t pay bills or fulfill my future career goals after college. There are what I will describe as bots that try to demean your experiences. The few “recruiters” on there literally acknowledge “some of you will flip burgers forever after college, and that is the risk they are willing to take.” Middle class social media influencers plague Handshake— way out of touch to everyday people. If you like getting no jobs after college, watching influencers like sirens, and get censored for speaking the economic truth, then this Handshake is for you. If you don’t have experience for a future career, then Handshake isn’t for you. If your college pushed into Handshake, your college threw you to the wolves. Wish I didn’t have to write this but my words are true. Rural Americans, Handshake is a premium waste of time..KosoueVersion: 5.35.0
Pulling teeth to delete my accountI normally never leave reviews, but this whole experience was a nightmare. It started about 2 months ago when my uni created an account with my uni email. It prompted me to set up notification alerts. I set it to the least amount of notifications I could get. I still got emails almost daily. I tried to delete my account via the link provided in the preference emails to no avail. This week I have gotten emails back to back to back to the point where I was about to contact customer support to figure out why I was still getting them. FAQ’s said you could do it online, false, or via the link provided, false. To delete your account you must download the app and then a link is sent to the support team to approve the account that I never created.
If this company allows 3rd parties to register their information then they need to provided a simple and painless way to delete student accounts. Do not use this app. Don’t even look at it or you’ll get an envite to an event 18 hours that had nothing to do with you..EmilyyElizabethh24Version: 4.53.0
Complete Trash!!!Why am I getting jobs outside of my filtered preferences? Why are so many of these job posting fake, expired, or you consistently have to go to third party websites to go through the arduous process of filling out all the information that you’ve taken all the time to fill out on Handshake?! What was the purpose of filling out all that information on Handshake if you have to go to third-party websites just to do it all over again this is so stupid! I think this is a great app for undergraduates or graduate students straight out with little to no professional experience but anyone looking with years of professional experience and multiple degrees…this is not for us. There’s a $35 charge for alumni to utilize Handshake…please don’t waste your money! If I could give 0 stars, I would! Will you please upgrade your application to stop allowing fake jobs, expired jobs, and scammers to post ridiculous videos. I thought this was a serious business networking job site application?!.Jaibird1Version: 5.11.3
One StarI downloaded this app with the hopes of finding a better career move. However, upon having this app for over a year, I have been unable to use this app as to what it is intended to be used for. When I first downloaded this app, it worked well, gave a lot of insight on the jobs to come. I was happy. Few months into the app, it started slowing up, crashing, etc. so I checked for an update. If there was an update, I would update immediately. Then, few days later same issues, this time on top of the crashing and slowing up, I would click on an interested job and it would freeze on that particular job and only way to unfreeze the app is to close out the entire app. To this day, I’m annoyed with the app and deleted it completely from my phone. Would I re-download it? Maybe 🤷🏾♀️ hopefully it will be less crashing and freezing..BsmccraneyVersion: 3.19.0
Mostly marketing spamNeeds to be better filtering or categories when companies make posts. And notifications don’t properly clear after viewing messages which is annoying and I had to disable badging so it wouldn’t always distract me. The majority of the messages I receive are labeled as a job to apply to but they’re invitations to conventions, or mostly just general interest presentations for their companies. JOB: Want to learn more about company X? Sign up at the link below! Our company might be hiring, who knows!! It feels like marketing spam 80% of the time. Not one star bc there have been 2 or 3 actual invitations to apply to internships which could perhaps help somebody but really those opportunities are all available on every other job site, too..Gabo MuchachoVersion: 4.39.1
Limited Accessibility for City University of Seattle StudentsI recently attempted to use Handshake to explore job opportunities, a platform known for its utility in connecting students with potential employers. Unfortunately, I encountered a significant hurdle: my institution, City University of Seattle, is not recognized or listed within the app. This exclusion is a substantial drawback, as it restricts access to the resources and opportunities that Handshake provides, which are valuable for students' career growth. While the concept of Handshake is promising, the lack of inclusivity for all universities diminishes its potential benefits. Therefore, I am rating it 1 out of 5 stars, primarily due to this limitation. I hope to see improvements in the future that will include a wider range of institutions, ensuring all students can benefit equally from what Handshake has to offer..Umutbek AbdimananVersion: 5.5.0
Internship Prefs & App CrashesThe app is okay in the idea, but the execution is not there. I dislike the fact that internships won’t specify what year in school they are looking for on the details page of the job. I have applied and then gotten turned down because I didn’t fit the graduation date requirements (as many were never openly listed). My app also keeps crashing when I try to change the job preferences. If I try to deselect the roles, the Handshake app will crash and close up. I have logged out, deleted the app, and restarted my phone a few times and it’s still doing this. Very frustrating overall and will be a bit useless if I can’t actually get it to stop crashing..ThatchelsVersion: 3.2.0
Good concept, lots of problemsIn theory, having a platform aimed at internship seeking students and new grads is a great idea. However, having used the app and the website for a while, there’s a lot of problems with execution:
1. Handshake really needs to crack down on spam. I believe that employers paying to contact students make up a good portion of Handshake’s revenue so I doubt this will ever be fixed. Employers spam students about positions entirely unrelated to student’s area of study (I have been spammed regarding server positions). There’s no way to block contacts on Handshake, and companies will completely ignore you indicating you are not interested.
2. Handshake is full of dead listing and there is no way to report a listing for a job that does not exist. Handshake only allows universities to report listing so these listings will continue to sit on the site indefinitely
3. The new home page is bizarre. I do not want TikTok style videos about job hunting clogging up the home page to what should be a job board. I have no clue who this feature is for.StringContrabassVersion: 5.18.0
Unusable appNot sure why this has so many food reviews, I had a lot of difficulties signing up for an account through the app. I contacted support for help because it would not let me register my email with my school. Support suggested I try signing up on the website but that produced the same results. What did work was signing up with a different college that had the same email domain as mine. I still had to contact support again to change my college to the correct one since that cannot be done by the user.
To top it all off, I tried to go back into the app to login to my now made account but there is no option to log in, just create a new account lol. This app has a lot of fixes that need to be made..Anal 5hipmentVersion: 4.25.0
Cannot get past "Search for Schools" pageI just updated the app because I was looking at a job, and suddenly kept getting the error message "Something went wrong. Please try again." However, now that I've updated the app, I cannot get past the "Search for Schools" page. I type in the first two letters of my school, then get the same error message: "Something went wrong. Please try again."
I tried turning my phone off and then back on again, but that didn't work. I also tried deleting the app and then reinstalling it, but that didn't work, either. This is really frustrating. The app was working fine until five minutes ago. Now it's not working at all. Please fix this ASAP! Thank you..IS2mHpVersion: 4.13.0
Needs work doneThe app needs allot of work still. First off there isn’t a log off button anywhere so if you signed up with the wrong email then good luck on fixing that. There are many things the website has that cannot be accessed through the app such as viewing other students in your school. As for the actual job searching tool it is far too wide. I live in Texas. Denton to be exact yet I’m seeing jobs in other states. The app has potential but I’m honestly surprised that it seems as if it wasn’t tested thoroughly. What I recommend for you all to do is ask various students all the problems we are having with your website. A simple survey email should suffice..Jsaeed22Version: 2.1.11
Trash appMy school used to work on Symplicity for ministry graduates looking for work. It was initiative, fast, and I could quickly see what jobs were available in my field of interest.
Handshake is none of these things. It’s clunky, I don’t even see a tenth of the job listings I saw before, and it’s hard to navigate. I see tons of jobs I’m not interested in, and there’s no way to ignore job ads or slim down my process. I’m not sure why our school uses this thing, and I’m petitioning to go back to the app we used before or something else. As someone who has done development work in the past I can usually be sympathetic but this app is garbage..StutzmasVersion: 4.37.0
UI is very problematicI cannot see what I type when adding a description to my job experiences. The description text field is hidden by my keyboard when I tap to type something. What I mean is the field doesn’t move up to allow me to see what I type and also you cannot copy/paste anything either since you can’t highlight or long press in the text field since it’s not visible on screen when typing. This is such a huge oversight and I cannot be descriptive about my experiences which is troubling as potential employers won’t know what I did/do in my past or current experiences which defeats the purpose of this app. Please fix this blatant and critical issue..Pissd off customerVersion: 2.1.6
Trash Garbage – Less Than One StarThis app infuriates me. Hopefully this scathing review gets the attention of the devs because using this stupid app should not be this frustrating. I download the app and it asks for me email. I type in my school .edu email and wait for the temp password email from this piece of garbage, but because this app is trash, I never receive an email! How the hell am I supposed to take advantage of handshake as an iOS app the same way other students can if I can't even ACCESS IT. There are no options to ask for help, connect with customer service, or any other avenue to be able to get access to my account on the app. Such a shameful design decision..Shirt shorts and cupVersion: 2.1.11
Clunky and Full of ScamsI have no clue why this app has so many positive reviews and why it’s pushed on students so much. The app constantly crashes, constantly logs me out, fails to load, is FILLED with job listings and “recruiters” that are obviously scams (and also many that aren’t as obvious so you end up wasting more time). There is no clear way to report these listings or “recruiters” — which I’m sure is why it’s a platform they seem to flock to. The filters for actually searching for jobs are generally helpful, but this is useless if you’re still only shown scam listing and receiving phishing messages..LizzyBoo>;3Version: 4.62.0
Horrible App with a Horrible BugI hate this app with a passion. Not due to its contents but the application itself. A few weeks ago I noticed my battery draining quickly and when I checked, this app had been running in the background for around 10 hours when I never even touched it! So I deleted the app and downloaded it again a week or so ago to give it another chance. Today I noticed my battery was draining again, and sure enough when I checked this app had been running in the background for more than 8 hours. Fix this!!! I’ve deleted the app for good now.KhogjwandVersion: 5.7.0
App Blocks External Browser, But Can’t Load Pages ItselfSoftware increasingly becomes a joke on the iPhone as developers deliberately make it worse to extract more money, but the developer is the punchline.
The app blocks you from opening links in an external browser to force you to use Handshake more. This would be frustrating at best normally, but when your team spent all its money on managers to extract money instead of decent coders, you end up with an app that straight up doesn’t work. Pages don’t load and the only way out is to go and use a search engine.
Pathetic..ThisIsBaVersion: 5.24.0
Terrible appI received an email for a virtual interview on handshake. When I click the link handshake opens and tells me that I don’t have permission to do “that”. It doesn’t tell me what “that” is and they don’t have a customer support number either. You have to fish around the app until you manage to find where you can send an email to them. I still haven’t heard back from Handshake since I’ve sent an email. Employers please do not use this app for interviews etc. customer support is trash and the links they provide won’t allow everyone to open it..Cryptoguy1Version: 4.13.0
Stop logging us outFor the most part I absolutely love this platform. But the fact that it logs me out pretty much every single time without me asking is getting really annoying. It really hurts usability when I just wanna go check a message and I have to go through my entire university’s SSO. This is a problem both on the web app and the actual app. Just leave me logged in like LinkedIn I don’t think there’s data private enough to warrant logging me out each time and if there is then use Face ID..Charlie 7586Version: 4.17.0
Unmatched skills and jobsIt’s so frustrating to get all the wrong recommendations, especially from OTHER STATES, and see jobs that I could be great having a greyed crossed circle because supposedly I don’t have the skills or education, only I DO. What’s the point of having the app if it’s not helping? I’m also not able to change anything. And I get SO much spam and scam offers. It really should be better screened, and we should have some say/way to edit our own profile and skills..Knachy1Version: 6.2.0
Fix messages and notifications!Messages in the app are archaic - you can’t delete them, can’t flag those you want to follow up with... rendering this area useless and making it an overwhelming mess. Also, the red flag for notifications on your iPhone will go haywire- reporting unread messages with obnoxious numbers even though they’re read. The purpose of that feature in apps is to alert you to business that needs attention - very annoying that it stays there once reviewed!.KdmeokVersion: 3.16.1
FlawI find the location setting to be very frustrating. I was a student in Chicago Illinois, I have now moved and live in Nashville Tennessee. I have changed my personal setting as best I can to find careers in Tennessee however, the jobs still listed to me apply only to Chicago because I went to college there and those who reach out are only individual’s interested in the Chicago area.
