Best Job site I’ve used!Tried Indeed, Trello, LinkedIn jobs, all of them pale in comparison to handshake. The ui alone and innovative way to search for jobs is a selling point that can beat any other site out there. It may not have the amount of jobs like indeed, but you can find good ones very quickly that are the perfect fit for you. My school, IUPUI uses handshake and I was able to find an opportunity as a freshman, I was a freshman! I have only seen jobs pertaining to the technology sector, software engineer to data analyst type stuff. That’s because that’s all I’m interested in right now. However, the DM system where companies can reach out to you, or you can reach out to recruitment managers is an amazing addition to an already great job hunting experience. This app was great at first!Handshake is easy to use, I like that you can message employers and take to recruiters directly. I got my first internship through handshake and I am extremely grateful. Recently the app has gone down hill. It’s becoming more and more like indeed and LinkedIn. If I search for a role I get jobs that are completely unrelated to the job search or I’m not qualified for. I was under the impression that this app was best suited for students/college graduates looking for entry level roles but many of the roles I’ve seen require 5+ years of experience. Better Chance, Good OpportunitiesI found Handshake early in its release to the App Store & shortly after trying the app out I did get a job with a tech startup! The experience was smooth & great. Love the program…App FreezesI absolutely love Handshake, but the app freezes every time I try to load a job to see more about it. It goes to load, and then I get the spinning circle of perpetual waiting. It’s very frustrating as, even in the mobile version, it does the same thing. Lots of irrelevant job postings and spamI do really like how there’s lots of job postings on this app, but I’ve noticed that a good amount of them are just irrelevant to what I’m looking for (even though I put in my preferences into my profile). This results in what feels like a lot of spam from this app, as I keep getting messages which say “You’re a good match for this employer,” just to open it up and find out that it’s an engineering job and I never studied engineering in my life. The other thing I find highly irritating about this app are the “apply externally” applications. You click on apply externally, only for it to open up the website within your the app, rather than on a separate browser (like Safari). Needs a lot more improvementsI’ve been using this app since graduating in August of 2022. Posted this ending of April 2023. A lot of these jobs aren’t entry level for an app that aims to help college students their first job. It would help knowing how many applicants there are in the process so you know what to expect as far as a response and wait time. Most companies don’t even update the status on your application from pending to declined. Also, when trying to view the multiple locations on a job post through the mobile version, it doesn’t actually show you anything but goes to the employer profile. Reporting System?The website is a good way for employers to reach out to students. There are a few issues with a lot of the employers on the app, like they often list the opportunity as paid to get more students to see the post even if they do not plan to pay. This could be easier to avoid if the app allowed you a way to report employers like this. On the mobile app I don’t think they give you an option to report and on the website it doesn’t let you submit the report. The website doesn’t allow you to send links to the employer as well, which is annoying because many of them are asking for online portfolio links and not files..DjcnnrjdskVersion: 5.12.1

Needs to be a way to block direct messaging from recruitersThis app is basically a way for recruiters to meet their quotas by spamming a bunch of people with jobs that are irrelevant to them. I receive at least two messages a day from out of state recruiters encouraging me to apply to jobs that have nothing to do with my degree. I did enjoy browsing the job postings and sometimes it is a great way to talk with someone directly from a company but I got spammed way more than what it's worth. Handshake is great exceptI’m coming in here to report a problem where when I’m trying to look at the employers that will be present at my school it won’t let me scroll for the whole list. It will jump me to the button where I registered for the event. Better than LinkedInStarted using this through school as a current SNHU student. I appreciate that it’s got a lot more focus than LinkedIn and finding jobs to apply to or recruiters is great. Works well for intended purpose butThere is no way to manage what emails you get sent and you can only unsubscribe from specific things when they get sent to you. When I tried to searching how to block emails it would only tell me how to resubscribe. Too wide search resultsThe app is ok, and the results do match well for search terms unlike some other job apps. My complaint is that the search area is way too wide. I’m north of Baltimore and my results are for DC and northern VA. The website lets you narrow it by distance but the app does not. Still Job Searching (app needs a lot of work)I hate leaving a bad review, but there is no way to contact anyone for feedback. I got this app as an alumni and the career department of my school recommended. This app needs a lot of work. I am look for a remote position. There is no option to put this in your search or on your profile. Also I don’t know what the point of having a profile is because every recruiter that contacts me obviously doesn’t even look at it. They also ignore my job preferences. I often get messages about jobs outside of my field and nowhere near where I live. Pulling teeth to delete my accountI normally never leave reviews, but this whole experience was a nightmare. It started about 2 months ago when my uni created an account with my uni email. It prompted me to set up notification alerts. I set it to the least amount of notifications I could get. I still got emails almost daily. I tried to delete my account via the link provided in the preference emails to no avail. This week I have gotten emails back to back to back to the point where I was about to contact customer support to figure out why I was still getting them. FAQ’s said you could do it online, false, or via the link provided, false. To delete your account you must download the app and then a link is sent to the support team to approve the account that I never created. If this company allows 3rd parties to register their information then they need to provided a simple and painless way to delete student accounts. Useless Job AppI have used this app to apply to jobs that I have applied to on indeed and zip recruiter and haven’t gotten hired. I have applied to around 8 jobs, lots of which I have applied to in late July and August around July 28th and August 28th no reply or response from any of the companies I applied to. I texted an employer on this app weeks after applying on July 28th ish and no reply until this day even when I sent three messages. One StarI downloaded this app with the hopes of finding a better career move. However, upon having this app for over a year, I have been unable to use this app as to what it is intended to be used for. When I first downloaded this app, it worked well, gave a lot of insight on the jobs to come. I was happy. Few months into the app, it started slowing up, crashing, etc. so I checked for an update. If there was an update, I would update immediately. Mostly marketing spamNeeds to be better filtering or categories when companies make posts. And notifications don’t properly clear after viewing messages which is annoying and I had to disable badging so it wouldn’t always distract me. Internship Prefs & App CrashesThe app is okay in the idea, but the execution is not there. I dislike the fact that internships won’t specify what year in school they are looking for on the details page of the job. I have applied and then gotten turned down because I didn’t fit the graduation date requirements (as many were never openly listed). My app also keeps crashing when I try to change the job preferences. If I try to deselect the roles, the Handshake app will crash and close up. Please fixI want to love this app. I keep getting job offers that don’t apply to me despite changing the types of jobs in the “looking for” section and this has been a constant problem since joining this app a few years ago. I don’t understand why the dots to indicate a user has an unread notification had changed color from blue to gray. It was perfectly fine the way it was and with the new gray color, it makes things difficult to tell whether I have an unread notification or not because the color is so faded it almost blends in to the dark theme background I have on. I suggest going back to the blue color handshake once had because it was easier to tell read from unread notifications. The back arrow on the top left side of every video is placed too far up in the corner of the videos. The one unread message I have in the messages section of the app still remains with and I remember contacting customer support about this issue and was told that every user was having that issue but mine is still there many weeks later. Good concept, lots of problemsIn theory, having a platform aimed at internship seeking students and new grads is a great idea. However, having used the app and the website for a while, there’s a lot of problems with execution: 1. Handshake really needs to crack down on spam. I believe that employers paying to contact students make up a good portion of Handshake’s revenue so I doubt this will ever be fixed. Employers spam students about positions entirely unrelated to student’s area of study (I have been spammed regarding server positions). There’s no way to block contacts on Handshake, and companies will completely ignore you indicating you are not interested. 2. Handshake is full of dead listing and there is no way to report a listing for a job that does not exist. Handshake only allows universities to report listing so these listings will continue to sit on the site indefinitely 3. The new home page is bizarre. Unusable appNot sure why this has so many food reviews, I had a lot of difficulties signing up for an account through the app. I contacted support for help because it would not let me register my email with my school. Support suggested I try signing up on the website but that produced the same results. What did work was signing up with a different college that had the same email domain as mine. I still had to contact support again to change my college to the correct one since that cannot be done by the user. To top it all off, I tried to go back into the app to login to my now made account but there is no option to log in, just create a new account lol. Needs work doneThe app needs allot of work still. First off there isn’t a log off button anywhere so if you signed up with the wrong email then good luck on fixing that. There are many things the website has that cannot be accessed through the app such as viewing other students in your school. As for the actual job searching tool it is far too wide. I live in Texas. Irrelevant Recruiting SpamI’ve been using this platform for a little over two years and have not been successful in obtaining an internship/post graduate employment. I keep getting spam messages from recruiters that have irrelevant employment from my major or in a different state. It’s very frustrating. UselessI make alot of money using only indeed for job searches but I've had this app for a long time and it's the most useless job board I've ever seen more useless than Dice. Trash appMy school used to work on Symplicity for ministry graduates looking for work. It was initiative, fast, and I could quickly see what jobs were available in my field of interest. Handshake is none of these things. It’s clunky, I don’t even see a tenth of the job listings I saw before, and it’s hard to navigate. I see tons of jobs I’m not interested in, and there’s no way to ignore job ads or slim down my process. I’m not sure why our school uses this thing, and I’m petitioning to go back to the app we used before or something else. Another social media appI put in a few resumes and applications and never get a response back and I put quite a bit in between this and LinkedIn. It’s like another social media app. Then when you do the AI work where you get paid 14 an hour 20 an hour whatever they offer an hour to do remote once you do it you don’t get paid for none of it so if you sat there for two hours doing it and it just says OK you’ve completed the task. UI is very problematicI cannot see what I type when adding a description to my job experiences. The description text field is hidden by my keyboard when I tap to type something. What I mean is the field doesn’t move up to allow me to see what I type and also you cannot copy/paste anything either since you can’t highlight or long press in the text field since it’s not visible on screen when typing. Signing in and connecting to my school eventI was sent an invite through email to join a school event and every time I do it takes me into handshake but will not show the event. It makes me sign in twice every time by entering my email, then entering my school, then entering my school email and password, and then it makes me use Microsoft authentication. Needs workBoth the website and app are riddled with bugs. It suggests jobs for me that are over several months old. Recruiters for jobs I’m not interested in or qualified for reach out saying I’m a great fit. It even lacks basic features such as editing posts and comments. I can’t even delete my posts on the app because it’s broken and treats my own profile like I’m viewing someone else’s. A lot of its features are clearly still in beta, but they don’t make that clear (i.e. hiding people—they say “this action can’t be undone at this time,” so why even roll it out?). Clunky and Full of ScamsI have no clue why this app has so many positive reviews and why it’s pushed on students so much. The app constantly crashes, constantly logs me out, fails to load, is FILLED with job listings and “recruiters” that are obviously scams (and also many that aren’t as obvious so you end up wasting more time). There is no clear way to report these listings or “recruiters” — which I’m sure is why it’s a platform they seem to flock to. Horrible App with a Horrible BugI hate this app with a passion. Not due to its contents but the application itself. A few weeks ago I noticed my battery draining quickly and when I checked, this app had been running in the background for around 10 hours when I never even touched it! So I deleted the app and downloaded it again a week or so ago to give it another chance. Today I noticed my battery was draining again, and sure enough when I checked this app had been running in the background for more than 8 hours. Fix this!!! App Blocks External Browser, But Can’t Load Pages ItselfSoftware increasingly becomes a joke on the iPhone as developers deliberately make it worse to extract more money, but the developer is the punchline. The app blocks you from opening links in an external browser to force you to use Handshake more. This would be frustrating at best normally, but when your team spent all its money on managers to extract money instead of decent coders, you end up with an app that straight up doesn’t work. Terrible appI received an email for a virtual interview on handshake. When I click the link handshake opens and tells me that I don’t have permission to do “that”. It doesn’t tell me what “that” is and they don’t have a customer support number either. You have to fish around the app until you manage to find where you can send an email to them. I still haven’t heard back from Handshake since I’ve sent an email. Completely UselessI have been using this app for three years, which is a true testament to its efficacy. Never have I ever found an app developer that takes away features rather than add them; The options to tick away irrelevant jobs or report fake and incorrect job listings were quietly removed, so there is no protection from imposters and scams.
