A must have for driving around MauiWe had the book 10 years ago during our first trip to Maui and felt like we were on a treasure hunt finding the sights. So, this time we were excited to see the app version and enjoyed having a tour guide everywhere we went. The navigation was on point and added value to our drive around the island. It also helped prioritize stops calling out must sees, places to skip, and places that we might not have been prepared for like a hike or more challenging trail. This was especially helpful since we had our 8 year old with us. The road to Hana there seem to be new no parking signs in the turnoffs that deter sightseers from stopping in places the app says would be a great place to stop. The “secret” spots from our trip 10 years ago are no longer a secret, and that made it difficult to see some things because all the legal parking spots were full. I’m excited so many can experience this beautiful place and what it has to offer, and maybe it was the time of day/year we visited, but we had to skip a few things for these reasons. We also saw police with a tow truck on the route, so they weren’t messing around with parking violators. We tried to stop again after we turned around (we only went half way) to go back but didn’t have any luck. Must Download for MauiI was genuinely blown away with how much this app helped my trip to Maui. The geolocation and narration, especially in parts of the island which had no cell service (such as Road to Hana), genuinely made me feel safe and comfortable as Andrew pointed out which stops on the island were worth our time and which weren’t. This saved me a lot of time and logistical planning. There were many times where the app would effectively “predict” what I was thinking (e.g., “You’re probably wondering why the road is so windy here”) and then provide useful information and background. Love this app!We have used the Hawaii revealed books for years on several islands. After several years of being away, we returned to visit Maui last week and decided to try the app. We learned so much and literally drove every inch of the island listening and stopping where we wanted. Overall Nicely Done and better than othersOverall we appreciated the content, insight and humor. We liked they when there wasn’t anything to be said it didn’t play a repetitive sound track in the back and the humor didn’t make you cringe. Our primary challenge was in the Road To Hana. He warns about driving too fast and audio getting out of sync, and we were in sync. But sometimes he talks too much without enough of a detailed description and the next thing you know you are past the point of interest. I would prefer he tells you what is coming up, short additional content and then tells you again when to turn BEFORE you arrive at the point of interest. If you have the book, quite a bit of the content is directly from the book. It is supplemented by some new content. Very helpful appI bought the book to research for the trip and used the app while we drove around the island. We definitely saw more and discovered things I wouldn’t have remembered from just reading the book because of Andy’s helpful comments along the way. One of the Best Apps EVERWe’ve used Andrew’s books on Kauai and Maui for years, but this app is even better. It uses GPS and requires no wifi or cellular connection. We got it for our recent trip to Maui. It literally follows you around the island and really is like having the author in the backseat. That is, hit the points and descriptions on the way to Hana but not on the way back from Hana to Kahului. Wasted my MoneyEverything started out just fine. We left Kihei and planned to take the full circle route to Hana only we chose to go around in the opposite direction than usual. The narration was interesting, helpful and sometimes funny. However, the minute we passed the turn-off to the Haleakalā crater, the narration just stopped. It couldn’t locate our position. All notifications were turned on and working well until it simply stopped. I do recall the narrator stating something like, “not to worry if you stop and start as I will pick up wherever you are located.” Well, we never stopped at all before the program simply ended. I reviewed the troubleshooting tips and finally called the phone number twice, and left a message once but no one even bothered to respond. I was a fan of the Maui Revealed franchise but not any more. This was a total waste of my money. And now that I’m no longer in Maui, it’s completely useless..MinnScribeVersion: 3.4

Not family friendly!The app works fine but the narration is cringeworthy at times and we frequently found ourselves turning down the volume given our young (5 and 9) kids were in the car. From tales of the narrator’s swim trunks getting sucked into an underwater scooter leaving him naked and figuring out what to do, to repeated violent accounts of Maui history, to cringeworthy anatomical references to describe Maui’s landmarks and sarcastic weigh ins on Hawaii public policy, all with the undertone of the narrator’s cynicism, this app, while effective and fine for teens and adults is just…weird…in its fixation to narrate so frequently with such an edge.
