Sony | Creators' App Positive Reviews

Overly Aggressive Demands for Photo AccessIf you’re like me and only want to use this app to remotely control your camera and see the current feed, be prepared for constant dialogue boxes asking for permission to your photo library. I don’t want to give it permissions as I have no need, nor desire, to transfer videos or photos using this application. I only want remote viewing and control. Is that too much to ask for? Currently yes, as it constantly keeps asking for photos access with no way to disable. I have to click cancel repeatedly when using this application. Developers please give us an option to disable this overly aggressive demand for full access to the photo library. I am never going to give it permission, so please give me an option to use the functionality I need in peace!.Version: 2.0.5

The app works ok but I cannot save directly to an external hard driveI have limited storage on my computer well, IPAD Pro. And would love to be able to upload directly to an external hard drive. Videos take a lot of memory. There is not way that I have found to do this. Even when I take the memory card and plug it in directly. The video format is not recognized by my IPAD. So I cannot select it to transfer it. The only way I have been able to transfer it is directly from the camera then to my hard drive. This takes a lot of time and effort then I have to delete the files on my computer to save room. It would be wonderful if you came out with an update that allowed me to select a location to save my files to. Otherwise The app is working ok. I can honestly say I have not used all of the features it has to offer since I just started using it this week with my new camera..Version: 2.2.1

Annoying Pop UpsWhen you open the app it connects to the camera’s Bluetooth then wants to connect to a WiFi. When it can’t find a WiFi it wants to use the cellular data. The pop ups are annoying. All I want it to do is connect to the phone’s Bluetooth. I don’t want to use the app to upload images. Please provide a settings option to turn these annoying pop ups off. Camera control and transfer of images to phone works ok..Version: 2.1.2

Pretty cool so farUsing the: - Sony a7iv (v. 2.00) - iPhone 13 (iOS 16.3) I downloaded the new firmware as soon as I heard it was released, but was a bit hesitant due to the terrible reviews. At the time of my download the app had 1.7 stars. :-( I had the latest previous version already on the a7iv, so I decided to take a chance, and it turned out to be a positive experience. I went to the App Store and grabbed the new Sony app, then went to the website and downloaded the new firmware (v.2.00) to my laptop. I then put it on an SD card and downloaded it to the camera, all without issue. After everything was downloaded and installed I turned it and it worked well. I can now control my camera from my phone and have almost no latency as I watch the screen on my phone. I can control all my settings directly from my phone in real time and things seem to work really well so far. I’ll keep experimenting with the app and update as issues as they arise, but so far it works better than I expected and I’m happy with it..Version: 2.0.0

Very Useful for Solo CreatorsI think too many people expect iphone level performance from these apps. This is the best one Sony has made yet, with faster low latency previews than with a tethered connection (idk how) on my mac. The one issue I have is that you cannot use touch to set the focal point, but you CAN use touch to set the tracking? Clearly the functionality is there so I removed a star for what feels like a simple oversight. Once that function is added I no longer have to get up so often to film myself and I can have perfect focus every time! The ability to manage a whole host of other settings is just icing on the cake. Well done!.Version: 2.3.1

5 Star Creators’ App ReviewI’m starting this off with I’m in a wheelchair. I have dexterity issues with my hands. Using this App with my Sony A7RV has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It makes operating my camera remotely so easy. My son has now started photographing with me and having the ability to control the cameras settings remotely while he’s taking the pics candidly has been incredible for us. I’m able to watch in real time exactly what he’s focusing on and what the lighting looks like so I can make changes while he’s continuing to shoot. So pleased with this App..Version: 2.6.0

Upgrade to 2.0 from 1.10 (not 1.01)Sonys chat support was quite good. The Sony website describes updating from 1.01 to 1.05, then upgrade to level 2.0 . That means, if you have NEVER upgraded your A7IV, you must use the aforementioned process. IF you have previously upgraded, then your A7 IV will have a version 1.10, which confused me a bit. Once Sony Chat Support confirmed I had previously upgraded the Firmware because the 1.10 was showing as the current version, they recommended skipping the 1.05 (attempts by me to load 1.05 were failing) update, and instead perform the 2.0 upgrade immediately..Version: 2.0.1

Great but has its issuesThis app is great. I been using it recently to get some self portraits and practicing with it so I can use it with ease. The Wi-Fi access point feature is not functioning properly, though I have gone through the steps and I can’t get the camera to connect to my phone even though both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi. I do not like doing the direct Wi-Fi connection because then my phone loses network connectivity while I’m using the camera..Version: 2.0.3

Certainly better than the horrid Imaging EdgePro: On my A7R5, setting up the connection has a more visible and sensible workflow, although slow. The connection seems more reliable. And tap-to-focus works on my iPad, which is an enormous improvement. Con: To connect to my iPad, I must turn on not only WiFi but Bluetooth, which is insecure. I must also turn off my VPN. Biggest problem: Swiping away -- to check the time or adjust the brightness of my iPad -- disconnects the app. That's dumb. Only quitting the app should disconnect. Setting up the connection again is slow and I've lost shots Way too much screen real estate wasted by controls. At all times the image should be as large as possible, and I should be able to hide all the controls but the shutter button, which could float over the image.Version: 2.3.2

GPS Location not working now *updated*Just updated app, Sony a7iv camera has newest 4.0 firmware, after the app update, Link location does not work. I toggle the setting off and on with a circle slash by GPS on camera display. *Update, reset iphone, volume up volume down hold power until it resets. Turned on camera, it did not automatically connect to app, manually open up creators app, gps/link location works again..Version: 2.6.0

Massive Improvement with 2.0Prior to 2.0, I had been using the Imaging Edge Mobile app for my A7iii and now A7iv. It was terrible but it worked sometimes. The Shutter app ($20) was great for my A7iii, but would frequently be unable to connect to my A7iv, which caused great frustration. The new Sony Creators app 2.0 has brought with it massive connectivity and reliability improvements, as well as a general improvement in usability and UI. Of all the camera OEM apps I’ve used, this has to be the best by far..Version: 2.0.0

Remote controlMy iPhone11 is connected successfully with A7IV. Needed to remove BT settings manually both phone and camera, though. Remote control function is great and improved from imaging edge. Sometimes connection is unstable and the data transfer is failed. I’ve experienced the same with other companies’ camera and app… That could be how wireless content transfer between phone and camera should be, but it’s painful. I hope this will be solved..Version: 2.0.3

Needs a bit of workFirst, please stop constantly asking for permission to access all photos. I don’t want or need to provide that. The app disconnects during live shooting often, despite being less than 3 feet from the camera. I look forward to seeing improvements. Location Linkage is also unreliable, forcing me to check my phone every time I power on the camera..Version: 2.1.0

Good functionality but range is an issueLet me say that for what its needed this app is pretty much sufficient. I also understand different Sony products as well as smart phones have different ranges, but I wish camera controls did not disconnect so quickly due to range and instead left the control window open so that settings can be adjusted before reconnecting..Version: 2.7.0

For those, “can you send me that” momentsClients are so accustomed to images being available instantly on their device that every working pro is up against their client’s need for immediate delivery. The Creators’ app is a great way to review and send a few images to clients on the fly. I’m happy with the connectivity and options for delivery..Version: 2.3.0

A good app with some quirksI really like the app for control of my cameras and transferring photos but the connection can be annoying. It typically disconnects once then after that, it’ll stay connected. Transfers are also pretty slow. Would like to see those aspects improved. Also perhaps video transfer would be another nice thing to have..Version: 2.1.1

Unreliable location with a7r vThe old IEM app worked great with my a7c for sending GPS information to the camera. That worked completely reliably with my phone in my pocket. This app never works as well. I have to open the app manually every time I want location information and sometimes manually connect. Hope this gets fixed in future updates, but for now it's a major regression..Version: 2.0.3

Connectivity issuesThis app has been through a lot of variants, and while it is arguably better than it used to be, that’s not by much. Every single time I try to transfer a single image to my phone, it fails on the first attempt. Every single time. Seems like this could be easily fixed since the issue is so easily reproduced..Version: 2.4.0

Use this OftenWorks great. I mostly use the app to transfer photos quickly when I’m on location and it does a great job. The ability to view my camera feed is also a big plus when I’m doing studio work, no need for a bulky secondary monitor..Version: 2.6.0

ConvenienceJust start using the app and I’m telling you it has been really cool to be able to see my cameras current view from my phone. Haven’t had any lags and I’m able to easily send and edit these videos and photos… I’m sold. Absolutely love this feature..Version: 2.1.0

Easy gps tagging and IMU video post processingI like my personal pictures geo tagged with gps to help organize them. If the app is paired with the camera and running the camera gps tags the photo pretty much as soon as it boots from being off. Remote shooting from the phone is slow..Version: 2.6.0

I need use smartphone volume button to shoot…It’s great let me to see the live view and let me adjust all settings on my phone but sometimes I can touch my screen when I need to touch the shoot button…can you give us a function let as set the volume button to shoot ? Thank you.Version: 2.6.0

Photo quality sent to phone is so badSays 2MB photo, but they are actually around 300KB. I don’t mind getting 2MB photos with better quality. Otherwise the transfer to photo feature is useless, I might as well take photo with my phone….Version: 2.1.2

Works well and nice features!Just got an A7RV and it works wonderfully, did not have any connection or setup issues and all features worked as intended. Nothing amazing but nice set of features and deserves more than a 2.5 star.Version: 2.5.0

Positive experienceApp is not as bad as written in reviews. For me, it works fine with a7IV and a7rV. Had some issues in the past, but now works ok, although it is not the simpliest app I’ve seen. Used mainly to transfer photo to my phone. Works great and very simple with the transfer arrow on the cameras..Version: 2.4.0

Tap To Focus!!! On FX3 and FX30Whoa, I was not expecting Sony to incorporate ‘tap to focus’ in remote control functionalities. My only wish was that you could control two cameras at the same time! Please make this happen Sony. However, if this option exists, please provide clear instructions..Version: 2.2.1

Not so badSony. With all of the amazing hardware you have shouldn’t you be putting out the BEST software to match and support? This app, to me, is better that the previous but it does seem clumsy and not well put together. I installed then uninstalled and reinstalled and it worked just fine… the trick being I had to reinstall or it didn’t register within my device to give me the chance to allow access to my photos. Once you’ve downloaded it your previous Sony app will not work so be prepared to do this before you need it..Version: 2.0.3

Ver 2.1.1 - now it is workingSo far I haven’t experienced any major issues, like getting disconnected during a session, and connecting with the camera (A7RV) is painless with this version. There are other issues that prevent me from giving it 5 stars, but at least it is serviceable. However I’m only using it as a remote control and didn’t touch any of the cloud features..Version: 2.1.2

Marks for uploaded photosIt works well on my Sony a7 m4. It could be more helpful if adding marks for uploaded photos like Olympus app. Therefore, users can easily distinguish uploaded photos and unloaded photos.Thanks..Version: 2.1.1
