Couldn’t Stay Angry at FCP for IPI’m a commercial editor who can’t resist working on an occasional project on the iPad. Had high hopes for FCP/IP until I discovered editing from external drives and round-tripping with FCP/Mac wasn’t enabled. But I started playing with the app anyway. Despite it’s lack of features available on FCP/Mac, FPC/IP is a pleasure to use. When I need to include corporate artwork, e.g. lower third supers, I can create them in a vector app, e.g. Illustrator, Affinity Designer, saving as PNG, them import them to FCP. That’s a big deal.
In the mean time, you CAN export your FCP/IP projects (Libraries) created on your iPad to an external drive — then delete the original off the iPad — and later, re-import your library to your iPad and keep working. The process is an extra step, but so far, it works well.
In the mean time, here’s hoping Apple will continue to develop features for FCP/IP at a far, far faster rate than they did for FCP/Mac..Tpf1952Version: 1.0
My iPad Pro is finally usefulI don’t know why apple dragged their feet for so long on this, being that the iPad with M1 & M2 chips have been more than capable of running Final Cut, but that being said, I can finally take my video edit workflows over to my iPad Pro and get some use out of it. I was really regretting the purchase when I realized there weren’t many apps (until recently) that really fit my needs and utilized the processing power of the iPad Pro.
I’m so glad its finally here. The interface is familiar and intuitive. I haven’t found the ability to make compound clips yet, but maybe that’s not available or coming in a future update. Also, I’ve only been using it for about an hour — so maybe its there somewhere. But I’m really glad to see that I can easily make mulitcam clips, as that’s what I primarily use it for.
I saw that LumaFusion added multi cam for an additional purchase, which I would have begun to use if this didn’t come out. Glad its here. Great work Apple!.Miotch!Version: 1.0
Its good but has some hiccupsIt feels a bit clunky at times. Trimming clips is a bit odd because for some reason you can’t just cut a clip (the controls for trimming clips is not intuitive in any way, it’s honestly unnecessarily annoying), it adds a “Gap” in place of the clip you deleted and it’s completely unnecessary. Also separating audio from clips is nonexistent. Instead you have to use a work around by expanding the audio and deleting the video, but if you get rid of the “gap” clip it deletes the audio. If you add clips above the audio it messes up the timeline and you can’t adjust it effectively. With some streamlining of basic features this really could be a great substitute for desktop editing software. It’s usable and a lot better than imovie, but I still use iMovie for basic sequencing of footage and separating/adding audio from clips. I’m definitely going to use Final Cut for a while, but until basic functions are less tedious to execute ill be using iMovie in tandem. I’d say give it a shot, but not to expect a direct substitute for Mac or desktop Final Cut or premiere pro..PerriertastelikepissVersion: 1.1
It's goodIt's good. I'm looking forward to it being great. There are many bugs that I'm sure will get worked out over time. You can't edit holding the iPad in portrait mode although I did get it to work once which I think was a bug. It was really comfortable and it was a nice experience while it was working but I haven't been able to get it work in portrait orientation again. Speaking of bugs, I'm writing this review inside of FCP and the text is black on a dark grey background. I can barely read what I'm typing.
it's a promising start but don't jump in both feet first or you're likely to be frustrated. The app has presets for vertical video if you're creating social media content and I'm looking forward to actually editing that content in the portrait mode of the iPad.
I'm sure it will get there. FCP has always been such a refined experience. It's the classic It just works that you get from Apple. right now it feels like a mix between a truly useful app for the iPad Pro and also something I'm paying a subscription to beta test..Andy just reviewed fcpVersion: 1.2.1
A GOOD START But…..It’s a pretty good start. There are many issues but that is to be expected right out of the gate like this. Coming from other more robust video editing software (MAC Version of Final Cut, and Premiere Pro) if you use those programs heavily as a professional like I do this isn’t quite the video editing replacement we’ve been hoping for for iPads. Simple little things that bog down work flow like, no video stabilization, finicky timeline adjustments to clips, and a lackluster graphics/effects options had me retreating back to other programs on a desktop or laptop to utilize those features or better options. However, the bones here are indeed fantastic and with a little developer support and learning from consumers I could see this program eventually becoming a complete replacement of those programs and I could travel with just my IPad which I am excited to do. But it just isn’t quite there yet. For now I will stick with my MacBook and I will edit this review when the program matures a bit..Danny_aPhantomVersion: 1.0
Excellent First Version Of The AppThe more I use this app, the more I like it. It is feature-rich and has some powerful editing features. At first, I didn’t understand how to use some of the features, such as how to move key frames in the audio time line. After checking out the Ripple Training tutorials, things made better sense. Yes, I paid the $29 for the full version of the training, but it was worth it.
At this point, I am doing most of my video editing using Final Cut for IPad.
I had an M2 iPad with 512Gigs of Ram but ended up returning it for the 1 TB version. The M2 iPads with 512 Gig and below have 8 Gig of internal Ram. That left a little jumpiness in the video editing. (My projects have about 12 Gigs of footage.) When I moved to the 1 TB iPad, which has 16 Gigs of internal Ram, everything became completely smooth, even when working with large 4K uncompressed footage..Old Man1Version: 1.0.1
Great, but missing two things. As a FCP user for over 15 years, I was excited to see this finally come out. The interface is slick and intuitive, and surprisingly robust with its tool set. I need two things before I can use it professionally:
I wish I could store projects on an external hard-drive. I’ve been unable to use this mostly because the footage I’d need for a project is bigger than the empty space left on my iPad. If I could load a project off of an external drive, that would enable me to work on my actual projects.
I’m also excited for being able to move from MacOS to iPadOS with a given project. Often I use my computer to invest footage and audio from interviews, sync everything, and categorize my b-roll. Then I’d love to bring my iPad when I travel and pull selects from those multi cam clips, and start to build some sequences..Shaun29Version: 1.2
Awesome interface, critical missing featuresThe touch interface is incredibly fun and easy to work with. I am new to editing with both the iPad and Mac, and purchased FCP for both. I 100% prefer making cuts on the iPad, and now that external drive support is baked in, I can take projects over the Mac for finishing.
But, that’s where things fall apart. Color grading is the most time consuming part of post production for me, and the interface on the iPad is sorely lacking when compared to the Mac version.
Please make the two platforms compatible and bring the wonderful color grading controls from Mac to the iPad interface — they BEG for the touchscreen, and I’m hoping this was a feature cut for time for v2 that will arrive soon. The inability to add LUTs and other plugins is a MAJOR limitation.
The iPad Pro is capable and ready for the full gamut of features. Fix color grading and full compatibility to edit on Mac/iPad (either direction), and this is a home run..FreiverseVersion: 2.0.1
I love it.As one other reviewer said, I can’t stay angry at FCP for iPad. It has the feel of the original Final Cut I used on my original cheese grater Mac Pro, prior to the release of FCP X. I never really adapted to the new Mac version, but absolute love the look, feel and easy of use of FCP for iPad. It is so much better than the (unnamed) completion. Now that they’ve fixed the crashing issues,(thanks to our feedback), and have listened to users, FCP is the only editor I use for both my audio and video Podcasts and social media posts.
Apple, please keep adding features and I’ll keep praising the App. But, please, make sure it doesn’t crash before releasing it to the public.
PS need a beta tester?.EscapesVersion: 1.3
Good Start, but…I am a fan of Final Cut Pro coming to iPad! For most of my work, it has been a pretty incredible, freeing experience. Being a remote employee, I can finally work connected the cellular networks and perform medium grade edits on the fly.
What I am looking forward to seeing is MORE plug-ins. I could use a bit more options as I no longer use a MacBook for my daily tasks and find the compromise to be worth it for my workflow.
Currently my biggest issue is FCP has crashed and will NOT reopen. I could try to do a wipe, however, that’s a tall order given the amount of data I have, the entire setup with work security, and so on. Really hoping I don’t have to do a wipe to get it to work seeing I utilize this app about 2x in a given workweek.
Keep up the good work although I would like to see better stability and more features, even if slowly rolled out. I had to give it 3 stars as minus 2 is due to lack of plug-ins at this time AND the fact that you do risk the app simply stuck in the “loading” phase, which makes it unusable..Terrance BVersion: 1.1
Interface mehThis app has Final Cut DNA all over it. I like it a lot for that reason. It’s shortcomings have already been discussed. Since my main work is 30-second PSAs, I’m not overly bothered that you can’t edit from off-pad storage - yet.
The dealbreaker for me is the fixed layout. Once I’ve imported my media and have moved on to editing, I prefer the preview screen on the right, the default for most editors. Was the designer left-handed? I’m right handed and don’t like having to constantly reach across the screen to interact with the preview panel, the inspector, the adjustments. All those panels should be on the right. I may opt out for that reason. It may seem trivial, but over the course of a project it gets me down..AgedefyingVersion: 1.1
Now I have another choiceI’ve been using LumaFusion as my goto app for video production and therefore got good at it. Very user-friendly. I tried DaVinci then removed it because it was not as intuitive as I thought. Along comes Final Cut Pro and I gotta say I was reluctant at first because I was finding features were missing…until I found them. The one feature which is not in this first version is the Help icon in LumaFusion which, when you press and hold, brings up descriptive annotations for every function on the edit panel. But it looks like FCP/iPad will become my primary now..Brahim-elVersion: 1.0.1
Needs serious updatesI’m an old FCP user going back to version 3. I was really happy to hear that finally Apple was bringing Final Cut to the iPad. Now I could do edit layout, etc., then when off the road bring into FCPX to finish, color correct, etc. But the iPad version is unusable to me as I don’t really want to import all my clips only to have to the transfer them when I work on my desktop version. Yes, Apple needs to allow FPC on the iPad to work with files that are on an external drive - just like Luma Fusion and DaVinci Resolve does on the iPad. I mean, with the iPhone 15 you can shoot video and save right to an external drive. But FCP on the iPad you can’t. Outside of that, Final Cut on the iPad and a great start..Skyking95Version: 1.2
Thoughts from a blind content creatorFinding a video editor that is accessible with any screen reader is practically impossible, which is why I literally bought an iPad just to try out final cut. I’m happy to report that final cut is accessible with voiceover! The only reason I gave it four stars was because there are a handful of crucial accessibility bugs that should be prioritized and fixed, but I was still able to get the hang of it and begin editing my own videos :-)..Night hawk131223Version: 1.3
A familiar platform, coming from the desktop version.I’ve been waiting for the development of apps that would suit my particular skill set and strengths, being that I’m a classical pianist, from my upbringing years - the point being is that I enjoy working with the concept of a multitouch interface for getting things done in audio and video, which is offered here, for Final Cut Pro. It’ll be exciting to learn about the features offered in this iPad version, and to do work in this app..JayammonVersion: 1.0
It crashesI have the newest model iPad Pro with the M4 chip. Despite all that the app keeps crashing. I’ll be in the middle of editing something for 20 minutes and when I go to add a short audio clip or text, the whole thing crashes and deletes all my work. It’s happened on multiple occasions now and I can’t seem to find a cause. I don’t understand how I can have the most powerful iPad Apple has created, it’s specs should be overkill running Final Cut Pro, but yet it crashes and wipes progress. It’s really testing me to not just cancel my subscription and move to a different software..LenoraKamVersion: 2.0.1
Pure funYes, there are features missing and the inability to edit on an external drive is frustrating but this is just version 1.0 and the subscription model gives Apple an incentive to update and improve. What is here is just a delight to use. It’s designed from the ground up for a touch-based interface and is fun and fast. I love Resolve for long, complicated projects but Final Cut is my now go-to for shorter edits with quick turnaround. It’s stable and intuitive and did I mention fun?.IrongrandpaVersion: 1.0.1
A Little DisappointingI am super in love with the OS version and was excited to have the option of ‘on the go’ editing on my iPad.
For the most part, I have worked around some of the issues with the app (like constantly having to sign in).
Needs improvement:
- separating audio in multicam clips prior to editing
- the arrangement of the windows being opposite of the OS version
- not being able to hide the window of media, etc.
- not being able to work from a hard drive or attached media
- easily going back and forth to OS
- more choices when in inspect
What I do like:
- the jog wheel
- the transitions and title choices
- being able to use my own font choices
- using animate for key framing
- using the Apple Pencil for title creation
- easy exporting
- that it’s an option!!!
Hopefully future updates address some of these things, so that I can change this review as I wanted to LOVE it!.Gi Gi 28Version: 1.1
It’s good but have space for improvementThe app it’s really good and working perfectly. But functions like voice over still lacking. Voice over it’s one of the basic functions for who edit videos and it’s kinda complicated to record the audios outside the app and than come back to put on the video. I really hope that this function come soon!.EsterCarusVersion: 1.0.1
💡📊❕Developers,
I have a suggestion for an enhancement to your video editing software: a customizable sound visualizer tailored for audio tracks. This feature should allow users to adjust visual elements like color schemes, waveform shapes, and intensity to match different audio tracks.
The visualizer would ideally react dynamically and in real time to the audio, providing an engaging audio-visual experience. Including settings for frequency response and visual complexity would be beneficial. Such a feature would not only enhance your software’s functionality but also give users creative freedom to visually represent their audio tracks in unique ways.
Thank you for considering this suggestion. I believe it would be a valuable addition for many users..Chechenia Connected ⚑Version: 1.2.1
Half-baked, feels like an early betaI was very excited for FCP for iPad. It’s got some neat features and I’m sure updates will improve it, but there are some glaring issues that make it easy for me to stick with LumaFusion for now.
1) No scrolling timeline (the playhead will scroll off the screen and that makes very little sense). The way LumaFusion does it is far more intuitive IMO.
2) No ability to edit from an external SSD
3) No support for full screen external monitor display (LumaFusion does)
4) LumaFusion has a Storyblocks subscription integration that makes it easy to find royalty-free music, sounds, etc. Nothing in FCP yet.
5) No third party LUT support.
6) You can’t copy/paste or multi select clips and apply the same effects. You have to go one by one which is insane.
7) The performance on my M1 2TB iPadPro 12.9 (5th gen) is ok, but it’s much smoother in LumaFusion..BryanbuffVersion: 1.0.1
Please update music options!Love using this app, except for the fact that there doesn’t seem to be a way to import music from my files, which is very disappointing. Most of the background music provided is not the type I need, and when I tried using one song that might’ve worked, I was shocked to see that I couldn’t cut it into segments to use where my video needed it, like I can in Adobe Premiere Elements. Please update these issues. 🙏🏻 Thank you!.KitKatHandVersion: 1.3
Fun to use but….I really enjoy editing on this app but I do not have a lot of storage on my iPad so when editing off external hard drives becomes available I’m definitely coming back. The layout works great for touch screen editing which means if you like traveling light and want portability in your workflow, this app is for you. Please update soon apple..JosePC5Version: 1.3
Great startI’m really enjoying editing using FCP on my iPad Pro. The only two thinks I hope that are added are the ability to mark spots on a timeline so I can circle back on a specific clip. The second item is a biggy and that’s the ability to edit off of an SSD, I know that there are bigger sized iPads but it doesn’t make sense to upgrade my iPad just for storage. Editing off of an SSD would be a big plus over other video editing apps on the iPad..PalinkhfVersion: 1.0
Great Job FCPX Development TeamOK even though it may not have all the features of the Os version it still is nice to use when your on the go and need to edit something quick. Crashes sometimesSometimes when I am precision dragging something the app will just randomly crash. I’m not sure if it happens to anyone else, but it is annoying when you almost have the perfect spot to place something, then all of a sudden the app just crashes out… Other than that, I have been enjoying using this app, and I am grateful that they decided to bring it to the IPad..JBisTOaOVersion: 1.3

Honestly, it’s a pretty complete appI purchased FCPX for my MacBook. But for my traveling, I take my iPad and am able to edit wedding videos. I can edit with my iPad using a keyboard (Smart Folio) and the magic mouse, similar to how i work on my Mac. Would recommend!.@ilupeVersion: 1.3

Great Features, Some Bugs.Love the features on this app and how it runs similar to Final Cut for the Mac, however I'm constantly asked to sign-in every time I want to edit a project. Hope they fix this before my free month is up, I’d love to renew and keep it longer..Bob-101-Version: 1.0
4. Thought it Was Great At FirstAfter about 3 weeks of working great as my primary video editor, it started freezing constantly to the point where I find it nearly impossible to edit videos on it.
I’m on a 2021 iPad Pro with 16GB of RAM and an M1 Chip, and it still works only 80% of the time.

A bit of a learning curve then you are goodSpent the first half hour struggling poking every on screen buttons and absolutely nothing worked. Need to pull a media down to the timeline then from there youposition your pointer split cut the media then parse more media or select a clip and add a effect and so on. I am an expert now 😝 well good enough to edit, export and save my project to a flash card. Found out that my 50gb cloud memory is not enough. I think a subscription to Final Cut Pro should include 1 tb of space. Anyways I just might subscribe to fcp yearly. Great addition to my iPad Pro 7 13 inch. Final Cut Pro: Create Video Negative Reviews
After 2 years, I have given upFCP for iPad is a tremendous disappointment. It was a sorely needed product, but sadly it falls down at any obstacle thrown in front of it. My problems started last year with the 1.3 update (which broke compatibility for media types already being used in my projects, setting me back a significant amount of time and requiring reshoots of certain footage) and have continued ever since. Apple support dropped the ball numerous times attempting to “help” me after my last negative review and only succeeding in taking up literal hours of my time. As of the latest 2.1 update, I’m no longer even able to successfully get a complex project to export (which had previously been successful on 2.0) and the stability of the product has gotten significantly worse and freezes up on me frequently. At this point, I cannot trust this product ever again. After 2 years, I have cancelled my subscription that has been in place since day 1, and I won’t be back. If you are a professional video editor, I strongly recommend trialing this product with a low-stakes project to test your workflows before tackling anything large, or risk being shackled to a bad product for the duration..ISichasVersion: 2.1
I wanted to love itI tried every possible way to make this work but it just doesn’t. I’ve edited on the Mac version for years and have loved it. I bought the M4 iPad in hopes of doing more editing on the go but it’s so hard to make work. The file system is horrendous even with the new update. It claims you can use an ssd to edit but you really can’t still. You still have to bring it into the project and it doesn’t work the same as you would think on the Mac. Cutting and merging clips isn’t as great as you would hope. Can’t add custom transitions. Color grading is non existent. Can’t bring in custom anything really: luts, fonts, titles, adjustment layers, or anything like that. Even exporting a clip and bringing that into the Mac version of Final Cut brings down the quality a ton in the clips for some reason. So why do we pay monthly for this even though the far superior version is a one time transaction? This should be a $100 app one time not $50 a year. If you actually edit, don’t get this..TS2222Version: 2.0
Charged for in app training tutorial ( Joke )I was very excited for Final Cut to come to iPad. Seems to work ok for being a scaled down version of one of the greatest editing apps on the market however. Some of you might want to use the in app tutorial to get started and learn the very basics. Well the first 8 or 9 short tutorials work fine and give some very general info but once you click on number 10 a third party app wants to charge you a monthly fee for for last 10 or so short tutorials. Definitely a first for me. Could be a mistake by the creator but is enough for me to pull out and continue using any other editing app until they decide not to milk their customers.
Note to developer. I would have been happy to pay a flat fee of around $300 the same as the desktop version over the $49 per year or $5 per month. Not a fan of subscriptions. Will change my review as things progress..Chris WillsonVersion: 1.0.1
Subscription based apps are awfulI really don’t like subscription based apps. I do not use 99% of my apps all that frequently so to pay for something monthly or yearly is a huge waste of money for me. And this app doesn’t even have a trial version, as soon as you launch it you must select a subscription base service. That is absolutely crap. Give the users a chance to try it without having to pay first (a free trial month that automatically turns into paying doesn’t count in my opinion as I do not want to have to remember to cancel in time). If this was a pay once app like the Mac version I probably would’ve bought this right away since I use Final Cut Pro on my Mac and I love using my iPad Pro for quick idea creation.
I’m very disappointed with this apps business model and for the record I hate subscription based apps (to say again), it’s a greedy business model that makes it difficult for hobbyists and casual users all around..Jason120721Version: 1.1
Disappointed in capabilityI have recently purchased a Drone and I enjoy editing videos after fun camping trips. iMovie is so limited I have found myself doing all my video edits in DJI’s app. The features and ease of use are so nice I am now using it for all my video edits for my standard videos. I was really hoping final cut provided much more capabilities than iMovie, but it is only marginally better. Some missing features that I find myself using on DJI is variable speed edits and beat stamps on audio files to help with video transition timing. These features exist on the MAC version and I just don’t understand how Apple continues to limit the capability of their software on the ipad. There is plenty of capacity on the iPad’s to add many of these features as other software options have shown. Bummer..DcdelandVersion: 1.0
It’s alrightI was so excited for this app, but I don’t like that. It’s a subscription based app and it doesn’t integrate with the projects I’m working on Final Cut Pro on my MacBook. I can’t continue a project from there and I can’t merge project files. Also the keyboard shortcuts are not the same on an iPad keyboard as they are on a MacBook keyboard and that is really frustrating. I don’t like that you have to click on a piece of content to be able to interact with it. Where is on a MacBook you can just cut a piece of your video without actually clicking on the content piece. I think that if you have Final Cut Pro Mac, you should be opted in for Final Cut Pro iPad and I think it’s annoying and frustrating that I have to pay a separate subscription for it..Shivana_xoxoVersion: 2.0
Live Multicam Arbitrarily Doesn’t Allow Local Recording at Full FramerateLive Multicam is pitched as a feature that is supposed to make it possible have a professional workflow using iOS devices.
For no apparent reason, it does not allow you to record locally at the full framerates that iOS devices can on their own but if your workflow requires 4k60 or 1080p240, this app literally does not allow you to do that.
There is no obvious technical reason why this is true. I don’t need 4k60 and 1080p240 *live monitoring* - I just need to be able to *record* with my devices at those resolutions and framerates. Why, imaginably, would current gen iPhone Pros not be able to stream video that simply drops every other frame to an M4 iPad for *live monitoring* (or 3/4 frames for 240fps recording) of the videos they are recording locally? Surely this is not an outright hardware limitation of even current hardware when this software is otherwise able to be used on less recent models of iPad and iPhone.
If you want me to pay for professional software, it does actually have to be able to do at least as much as I can do while not using that software.._RCH_Version: 2.0.1
The app keeps crashing on my videosI am editing 1–3 long video clips (with separate audio) and attempting to export one final video, about 20–30 minutes long, from the project. These are unscripted videos where I need to remove an obscene number of um’s and dead space. The app continues to crash once I’ve edited about 10+ minutes of video content. It continues to crash every couple minutes thereafter. After suffering my way through editing the rest of the video editing process (with crashes every couple minutes), the export process crashes. Every time. I’ve tried restarting my iPad, disconnecting external devices, starting from scratch, testing out the demo project (which works fine). I’m using the newest 12-inch iPad Pro, and I have no idea what’s wrong..DasaniduckVersion: 1.3
Why did you put a subscription?Subscription based apps are awful. I know everybody else has been doing it but please Apple don’t copy them. Please just keep it a one time purchase because with a one time purchase you feel like you actually own it more but when I buy a subscription it just feels like I’m borrowing something temporarily and I have to pay money every month. And if I would’ve bought this because of that, I’m gonna cancel it sooner or later. It might make more money but it’s just worse it’s terrible. because I just think to myself why and then I just say no. So I just think Final Cut Pro more like final moment I’d be thinking about Final Cut Pro and logic pro for iPad. I’m sticking with iMovie.._SkythunderVersion: 1.2
Frustration galore!!!Worked well the first month. Today the program has crashed so much it has taken hours for a 10 min video project. Literally worked on this short video for about 4 hrs bc I crashes so often! It has literally crashed 5 times in a two min period! I used to love this program so much now I need medication to ease my frustration. I googled it and the crashing seems to be a very common complaint. OH YES… ALSO IT EXPORTS WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT. So after exporting for like 10 mins if the “export successful” doesn’t pop up it means it didn’t save. Will finish this short video if I can but will definitely try another program. Not worth the monthly charges tbh..Crying all day finalcut proVersion: 2.0
Subscription based ONLY/Nope. Hard pass. It’s subscription based only, greedy and unnecessary developer tactic. We can’t be expected to subscribe to everything nor can we be expected to pay for a product repeatedly. I don’t think iOS devs quite grasp that subscription services offer many products and add new ones all the time (like Netflix, etc) that’s a decent business model, where as when you sell a single product and consumers are expected to pay for it several times over that’s a bad business model. It’s not sustainable and it’s greedy. If you feel that the app is worth more than charge more but charge it ONCE.Matthew savantVersion: 1.3
False Advertising - Costs InvolvedFinal Cut Pro for iPad misleads because the cost isn’t revealed until you download the app and run it - then it tells you one month is “free” and then it is $4.99/month or $49/year.
One might notice that it even says there there are in-app purchases that usually means there will be advertisements within the otherwise ‘free’ app. Misleading to get folks to download the app so they can show high numbers.
Not ethical practices. I downloaded it … and will soon uninstall this app. Too bad, because I might have tried it if they were honest. Their willingness to screw folks once means they’ll be willing to screw folks many times..ReVoLLeeVersion: 2.0.1
Live Multicam Bug?I really love the features, but so far, I cannot connect a camera that isn’t already tied to my iCloud account. So, lets say I’m recording a project with multiple colleagues, and we all have up to date iPhones….it isn’t even showing their phones, despite going through every single trouble shooting step. So, live multicam…if you personally own multiple apple devices but not if you have borrowed devices…? That should be mentioned.
We need to discuss the continued use of the word “pro” by apple. It’s clearly a marketing choice, and less of a useful designation..SolosuiteVersion: 2.0
Please allow loading of custom LUT’s pleaseI was excited when I learned that Final Cut Pro for the M1 iPad was released which was a surprise. Looked promising but then I find out I can’t install custom LUT’s which is a total deal breaker for me. Also why does the graphics for the skimmer playhead on the timeline play so glitchy and not smoothy? As a professional I love using Final Cut on my Mac but you guys need to make the FCP on the ipad M1/M2 version the same as the Mac version. Stop skimping out. I’m currently looking at making a switch to Davinci Resolve Studio which I have just purchased. Works the same on iPad as Mac and it runs smoothly..Rascal9Version: 1.0.1
Subscription is not good, and app crashesFirst of all they should not be offering this in a subscription only. I will only use it once a year, so I will simply just unsubscribe and then subscribe again next year when I need it. I guess it might be cheaper in the long run for me, but still I would rather just own it.
The app also keeps crashing on me. I am running it on a M2 IPad Pro, so it shouldn’t have any issues. It will freeze quite a bit, and then just crash. I would expect a apple made app to run better on their top of the line iPad..Alex0667Version: 1.2.1
Needs external SSD supportI’m no pro videographer but I have a need for cutting and editing some GoPro and iPhone clips every now and then. I love how easy this app is to use but the fact that you must have all media loaded to the onboard iPad memory is ludicrous.
The 1tb iPad is like $400 more than the base model and the 2tb is $400 more than that. I refuse to be price gouged for that kind of memory when I can build a 2TB external nvme m.2 drive for ~$120
If/when this app allows us to import and edit media directly on an external drive it'll be my go-to. Until then I’m staying on DaVinci or LumaFusion..Illegal toastVersion: 1.0.1
Can’t edit on external hard driveIt wouldn’t support the external storage of media.
For the those who aren’t aware, Final Cut Pro on the Mac provides two options for file management. You can either have your footage copied directly into the project file or leave it elsewhere (such as on an external SSD). The latter is the preferred option for anyone who values local storage space on their Mac; you simply connect an external drive, drag the footage into your Final Cut Pro project and allow the software to reference its location.
You can’t do this on the iPad. As soon as you import footage from your external SSD, it copies it directly into the Final Cut Pro project..Raj123456351Version: 1.2.1
Keeps freezingI have used this app multiple times to make videos the same way every time, a week ago it started freezing whenever I opened a project and I thought I fixed it by clearing old projects and making space. Then it happened again today, i was worked on a project all day and it froze. I tired everything the website suggested and even contacted apple support and the guy couldn’t figure out why it was happening either. I really liked the app but now I’m going to have to find a new app. I don’t know what else to do..Fix this problem 6666666Version: 2.0.1
Very DisappointedI expected much better performance from this app. It has been crashing non-stop on my 12.9” M2 iPad Pro 1TB Model with Cellular. I paid a lot of money for this machine and was really waiting on this software release. I am hoping it is just buggy and not an issue with my brand new iPad not being able to run it due to hardware limitations.
I hope Apple can fix this issue ASAP. It’s really making me reconsider my purchase and ask for my $$ back. May have to switch over to different editing software, which would be a shame..Moder27Version: 1.1
Export HeadacheI could not create a simple 7 minute video and export it. It repeatedly failed to export after multiple troubleshooting steps. It also didn’t live up to expectations. I liked the ease of building a timeline and having control of the clips but the transitions, effects and titles felt too basic/ without polish. Felt like Apple whipped this version together to throw a “pro” app on the iPadOS platform. Hopefully it improves with time but I canned it off my iPad after a whole afternoon of trying to export my first project and received the “Failed to Export” error 100% of the time..SCSpideyVersion: 1.3
Come-on Apple, make this compatible with FCPX for Mac!I just upgraded my 4th gen iPad to an M4 since I heard FCP was available for iPad. Seeing that it’s 1 - a monthly membership and 2 - YOU CAN’T ROUND-TRIP PROJECTS makes this useless. I’ve been exclusive to FCP due to being in the eco-system and not wanting to re-learn Premiere or DiVinci. I’d even pay the yearly subscription if I could bounce between my iMac, MacBook Air, and iPad and edit projects - but I can’t and you can’t.
This is not keeping the user in mind, Apple…you can do better than that..NCosta0088Version: 2.0.1
Not Ready For PrimetimeI haven’t dived that deep into FCP, however, it’s lacking many features and is still pretty buggy. I can’t believe it doesn’t let you detach audio! Plus - the spacebar to launch the “Play” feature seems to only work 50% of the time. I have to quit the app and reopen to bring back that very BASIC FUNCTION. I really wanted to LOVE this app. I’m a working editor and I LOVE FCP for OS. However, IOS nEEDS some LOVE & ATTENTION Apple!! I prepaid for a Yamato, so I’m not giving up just yet. However, for now - I’m going Batak to LUMSAFUSION for IPAD..IOS burnsyVersion: 1.2.1
I was excited…The app, which I was extremely excited to see coming to the iPad, is a let down. I mean, Lumafusion has been my go to app for video editing for awhile now, & in my opinion, is leaps & bounds better than FCP in every way. This surprises me as FCP has always been highly recommended & is built by Apple to work on Apple products. I’m going to continue to tinkering around on it until the trial is over, but I’m highly certain I’ll be canceling it as of now. If that changes, I’ll update the review..IRoswellVersion: 1.0
Uninstalled same day.I am a Software Designer of 11 years, specializing in USER EXPERIENCE design. I have been a video Editor for 20.
Like all other video editors for mobile devices, this falls way short of the mark. There is no way to detach audio from clips. You can’t easily do L cuts. This app is slow and unresponsive. You can’t add video overlays. You can’t add image overlays, just titles. Like all other mobile video editors, this is impossible to use and I am uninstalling this poorly designed piece of software. Shame on you, Apple. You should be better than this..BARCLARYVersion: 1.2.1
This should be free for people who purchased Final Cut on MacWhy should we have to pay twice on Mac and iPad just to be mobile? And on top of that its a subscription? Horrible….Eric220Version: 1.0.1
I shouldn’t have to pay if I already have itI thought I could integrate this with my Mac since I already have the app there, but this just proves that Apple is a money-hungry company and will do anything to leech off their loyal customers..CatchingMockingjayLoveVersion: 1.3

Own the Mac version - Subscription on top No Thanks!REALLY NOT a great way to encourage the Apple community. Saying you need to pay perpetually for software you have purchased on a different platform ( I own the MAC version). THAT says Apple just wants to take as much from you as possible. Definitely NOT support the community to buy in and / or use the products to create. It’s expensive enough now they want to price it for elite only. Moving over to subscription for everything just pushes people away from the services. It’s a reason to move away from Apple. It’s a shame as it’s a great product..PauljafVersion: 1.2.1
Subscription…One of the main reasons I switched to Apple products is they weren’t jumping into the subscription rip off craze with there high end products. Everyone has been waiting for this iPad version, and now it is just an incredible disappointment. Just terrible..TheVandalorianVersion: 1.2.1
Subscription!I’ve already paid full price for the Mac version. Why do I have to have a subscription? I already pay way to many subscriptions every month and this is just another one to my ever ending bills.Fasteddy097Version: 1.1
Don’t like the subscription modelI bought the M2 iPad hoping that it can use same software as the M1 MacBook Pro. I was wrong and the long awaited FCP on iPad arrived but not exactly the same and require the annoying subscription. Why no option for perpetual license? Apple have to understand that not everyone like to subscribe. I don’t use Adobe for the same reason..CALcALTEVersion: 1.1

Subscription and no Custom LUTsIt isn’t a bad application but users who shelled out large money for the Mac app should get a discount on the subscription. Also the lack of custom LUTs for DJI drone users and others make it a bit limiting.
It is a great add on to a Final Cut for Mac workflow and this is another reason why that should be a discount. I would also imagine a future where a subscription for the iPad app and the desktop app would make an option.
I hope it will mature over the next year and hopefully some regeneration of Mac Final Cut owners will follow..JoeBitStopVersion: 1.0
Not recommendI purchased this app cause I am well familiar with the desktop version and needed to create a simple movie on the fly. Unfortunately the features I was looking for in App are not included. No way to tell that without a trial. I tried seeking help to see if there was something I was missing and no the features are just missing from the app. I contacted Apple for refund as I was unable to complete my project. Something I have done before with success. Funny they refund another developers apps but when it comes to theirs there was no reasoning. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND the app..EdmBearCubVersion: 2.0.1
What a shame, no comparison to desktop versionSo you go subscription based on a fanstastic desktop app… Okay so what do you get: you get less features, the UI is BRUTAL on IPad. Someone who has worked on FCP on MacOS for years there is basically no comparison between the 2. This feels like a pampered iMovie, directed for editors making very simple social media type content with very little complexity. This is not for any serious editors.
Why pack an M2/M4 in an iPad and offer an app like this. If this ran the Mac version of FCP it’d be a fantastic app even if it was subscription based..Wittow1Version: 2.0.1

Subscription models are gross.Go back to letting users BUY the full application. I’d rather spend $200 on an app than have to lock into yet another subscription.. WAY too many subscriptions these days.
I own final cut pro on the mac. The fact I can’t use this on my M4 iPad Pro without a subscription just feels wrong. Pretty shameful tactics..NEV3SVersion: 2.0

Extremely Unstable for Midsize ProjectsAt first I was really excited to use this app. I’ve got an M1 iPad Pro with 1 TB of storage. I used it for a couple of smaller projects. Noticed it stumbled a little with dropped frames, but figured this was because the software was new and refinements would come out.
Almost 9 months later I’m now working on a larger project and I am shocked at how unstable this is. The app crashes minimum 5-8 times an hour, freezes and is so slow to render. I thought using this on an M1 iPad would be a somewhat good experience. Instead it’s horrible. I’m so disappointed. This is not the standard I’m used to with Apple’s software, they’ve really dropped the ball.
Use your Mac or another program. Don’t use this for anything longer then 5 minutes..KabirVersion: 1.3

Not ready? Or Not a real NLEUPDATE: I’ve changed my rating from 3 to 2 stars I have a very simple I’ll be it somewhat long timeline using one row of six clips and a handful of titles that I drew with my Apple Pencil. The project doesn’t load I turned off the iPad last night and turned on this morning, and I can’t get the project to work at all. I will come back and update this review if I get it working, but as it stands, FCP for iPad only usefulness has been an expensive “write notes and Titles on your video” style overlay plugin for resolve. If it’s going to be unreliable, then I can’t use it for anything and I am not going to be blowing money on it. The subscription service does not hold up to da Vinci resolve. The software doesn’t hold up to da Vinci resolve.
UPDATE 2: after turning the IPad on and off again and trying three times I got lucky and its working. I’m not going to leave the project until it is done.

Original Review: Fun and interesting with some new useful features, but the lack of compatibility with the desktop FCP or the lack of some key functionality make this more of a gimmick than a real NLE. I hope this is sorted with time since I actually use my iPad to edit outside of my office, But I will typically start the project on desktop and then take my iPad when I leave town. ( I also bring a resolve colour grading panel, because I could instead use resolves useful IPad app and pay less in the year for it). I love the ability to draw on the frame the auto scaling music, and the scroll wheel. I dislike the lack of colour controls, that lack of compatibility with FCP pros projects (can’t stand this actually), and the plethora of 90% implemented and there fore ultimately unusable features. Right now I’m considering it a plugin that allows me to use an Apple Pencil for otherwise completed rendered projects. But the cost is too high for just that alone. So I don’t see me keeping this subscription any longer than it takes for me to finish the current project..PaskapookidVersion: 2.0.1
