Oscillator is a simple and rough audio generator application which has the following functions. You can use it as a test tone and play it as a strange musical instrument.
- Four waveforms. (i.e. sine wave, square wave, saw wave and white noise.)
- Exponential Frequency control using the slider.
- Frequency numeric input using the software keyboard.
- Equal distance panning control using the slider.
- dB style amplitude control using the slider.
- Sound output on/off button.
- All sliders and buttons are multi-touch controlled.
Please note the limitations below before you purchase/use this application.
- The frequency control is not effective with the white noise oscillator.
- The panning control is not effective with an iPhone internal speaker because it is monophonic. Use headphones or stereo speakers.
- The audio output might be interrupted on a keyboard input, a view change and so on.
- The accuracy of the audio output is not very high but it is reasonable.

Simple but usefulYou have 3 waveforms and noise. Frequency, pan, and volume are the parameters. The slider range for frequency can be changed to virtually anything. I set a one octave range between 300hz and 600hz so I could have higher sensitivity. I later changed the max to 6000hz and the iPhone played it fine. One trick I learned is changing waveforms quickly and repeatedly to get a nice trigger effect. Even though it doesn't have cutoff, you can manipulate it physically by partially and completely covering the speaker on the iPhone..Version: 0
Good, but needs improvementIn order to get real live use out of this app, I'd need to see the names of notes on the slider. For instance, instead of telling me '440,' couldn't we have the option to have it say 'A'? This would greatly help me make this app wonderfully useful. Also, if you ever want to make an ondes martonet instrument app, I would pay as much as $10 for it. Until then, I believe this app is the closest to that instrument, but I am only half satisfied and I will not be recommending this app to anyone until the metamorphosis from frequency #'s to lettered notes occurs..Version: 0
Great to use with an equalizerA great app to smooth out the frequency response of your sound system when used with an SPL meter and an equalizer. Also useful to help set your crossover points. A very good tuning tool for a buck. I looked at the sine signal on a scope; very little distortion, but some high frequency noise was detected. This noise probably originated from the probe cable or the ipod itself. This low noise was inaudible to me..Version: 0
Doesn't work in sleep mode!!This app is great except the sound shuts off when the iPhone goes to sleep!!!! The iPhone's screen shuts off after a few minutes which turn off the sound!!!.Version: 0

Simple, Functional, WonderfulDoes what is says. If you narrow the Q, you get a more accurate tone. Yes, pink noise would be nice. If you are looking for "white noise machine" this will stop generating when iPhone screen sleeps..Version: 0

Has definite potential for Live Production application.Since you can reset the highest/lowest frequency in the oscillator, this coud be useful for testing speakers in your venue or shop. Sweeping frequencies doesn't sound super "steppy" like some digital oscillators I've played with. All it needs is Pink Noise, which shouldn't too difficult to add. For .99 cents this is quite cool.
