About Ship Finder Lite (Pinkfroot Limited)
You can even use Augmented Reality (AR) view to identify ships out at sea using your device camera.
Ship Finder has been top rated and top ranking since 2009 and covers most of the world, tracking 20,000+ ships simultaneously.
Simply tap on a ship to see it's name, type and destination. Colour coded icons make identification easy too.
If you like this app you'll love the full version of Ship Finder.
The full version includes a huge array of additional features including route history, search, filters, bookmarks, photos, the ability to add favourite ships and much more.
Ship Finder works by picking up AIS ship feeds used by all passenger vessels, vessels over 300 tons and increasingly by smaller pleasure craft and yachts. This technology is actually faster than radar and is used by vessels for safety and navigation.
Ship Finder provides near real time “virtual radar” AIS maps. It’s easy to use and is an amazing app for anyone interested in shipping, cruising and sailing in ports and locations across the world. It’s also great if you simply want to know what boats are out there or want to see where your friends and family are. Ship Finder is also used extensively by maritime professionals and mariners.
Our global AIS coverage is impressive and expanding all of the time as we add new AIS feeds and receivers. Please check www.shipfinder.co regularly to see the latest coverage.
Pinkfroot are committed to customer service and continually improve our Ship Finder apps based on feedback. Why not join our online community at www.pinkfroot.com or if you have any questions please email us via [email protected] and we’ll be happy to help.

Like others, I use this app to track incoming container ships to the port. I and others at work would like to see an alert feature that sends you a notification once the particular vessel/boat crosses a predetermined location. For example if I needed to know when the vessel passes a bridge, having a notification informing you of this. Is this something possible?
I used it to locate and name passing ships passing by and who were in port with us. I used it to locate where we were and names of islands passing by. Tracking our location and using the tracer to show directions was very interesting. I took screenshots of our location at sea and in port to add highlights to my travel videos. Very useful and entertaining.
We live in Duluth Mn right where we see the ships. I am interested in knowing what the name of the ship is. Also, I can locate a ship via Ship Finder that might be coming in and the Aerial Bridge will be going. I can plan my time leaving my home for appointment. Also if I am waiting for the bridge I can look on Ship Finders and know what ship I am waiting for. Thank You Ship Finders.
The ferry routes need to be updated for macknack island Arnold is no longer a ferry company star line owns both docks so could you update the map
You guys are really REALLY helpful. Thank you for the live maps. I five star rate this app! I can find the ships I want! But the issue is you guys can’t show the boats in hawaii. But thank you for everything! I can find cruise lines! That’s my favorite! But the pop up ads are so annoying. The boats move SO fast! 🛳❤️🚢❤️ you guys are the best!

Awesome app. Has always worked for me at the Atlantic cal oats of Virginia Beach. That is until this week.. No ships showing up at all in this Mid-Atlantic coast. What’s up? Is tracking system down??
We now have AIS aboard, but still like and use this app. Good to find others on the loop. (Not everyone has Nebo.)
Too many pop ups
I really enjoy using this app when I am on the beach.
It’s always fun to see who’sTraversing past my house on Lake Huron!
Nice app to keep up on all the coming and going of motor vessels cruising the Chesapeake.
Very accurate. ATONs well done.
Great app, annoying pop-ops and limited info on free version.
When I type in a ship name why doesn’t it come up? It only shows the vessels that are close to shore.
Ferries are often running late....great for keeping track of their arrival/departures....
Great for quickly and accurately checking position of ferries. Appears to be less informative in low traffic areas.
Works well. Do not like the pop-ups. Clear reference to what is going on on the waters of the Salish Sea.
Use it all the time. Works great for my use.
Thinking about paying to get ship details. Matt
Appears to think seaplanes are ships though.
Good value and informative app. Thank you!
Good for testing and watching other boats of interest. Very cool! Let me know when it goes on sale!
This app quickly and accurately locates and identifies ships at sea. I use it when kayaking to plan when to cross shipping lanes.
A great app I love it. following love ones at sea. General interest in ship movements on the West Coast of Canada. I'll give it five stars
Great App for west coast living near, and traveling by the Ocean. Also, with family working on tugs and fishboats it is real fun experience.
Ship Finder Lite Negative Reviews and Ratings
I have had the full app for about 10 months or so. Started out ok. Not as detailed as some other apps but ok. I live on the river in Detroit so I see lots of shipping traffic coming through and at first the app worked well with identifying the basics. Then about 3-4 months ago the feed for the area just stopped. Nothing shows up at all. I have contacted support multiple times and they would respond with we are checking on it. Now they don’t even bother to respond. I lost $5 not the most horrible thing to happen to me ever, it’s just annoying that this app is still out there. Do not buy this. Go with any other app than this.
It’s not very often I take the time to rate and review an app but this has gotten on my nerves for some time now. I don’t know what has been done to this app but it used to be pretty decent and actually had this app purchased a few years ago but lost my login information for my Apple ID. Anyways I’ve worked as a deckhand on the river for four years now and have used this app when I first started and up until about January of 2018. I didn’t really have a lot of reason to use it anymore. I decided early this month that I would download the free version and start using it again and have done nothing but want to toss my phone at the wall when trying to use this app. I work on the Ohio River in a harbor that has 5 Tug Boats constantly running and this app won’t even show one of them. -To the Developers Before you start sending me requests to troubleshoot the app let me first say that I may be a deckhand but I’m not a dumb as most people make us out to be. I have uninstalled the app and reinstalled. I’ve installed it on a different device running an older iOS (mine is current). I have installed it on a freshly restored app, and believe it or not I’ve allowed my location to be accessed by the app because it’s required and I’m just a tad smarter than you’d think. I’ve done everything you possibly can do besides smash my phone with a hammer, I’ve thought about it because this app is as good as a broke phone. It’s useless. I do not know what happened to this app and would in no way pay $5 for the other version. I’m fine with seeing adds ya know it’s free, but that’s about all I get. A map and adds. Oh and the amazing blue dot that show my location when I’m on a boat but I see no boat. Every boat I’m around and every Line Boat I am around has AIS and this app shows nothing. It’s trash just as simple as that. Hopefully you guys fix this but sadly I’ll just stick to the tracking on the boat and rely on others to let me know what boats are close before coming into work because I’m done with this app. I will apologize for the lengthy review but I’ve tried everything to get this app to work and I give up.
Just downloaded this free app to see if I would be interested in buying the full version as I can see ships from my house in Honolulu. The info gave me the impression I would be able to track some ships but all I see is a blue dot where I am. Not purchasing until I can see how it works. Update: twice the developer has email me a generic email saying I can check coverage for free at plane finder. I’m not interested in planes, I downloaded the ship lite app. Still not working....
This app used to be great. We live on the Ohio river and I could track the barges moving up and down the river. When the app was “updated” nearly a year ago all that was lost. I see no ships on the map even as they are passing my windows. It isn’t just River traffic, we were in the Caribbean this winter and many large ships in the port and only a couple showed on the map. My husband even paid for the upgrade and it didn’t change, no river traffic and limited ships showing elsewhere.
I happened to open this app after having updated my password for a different app in LastPass. Surprise! I got a notification that Shipfinder had pasted from LastPass - It stole what was on my clipboard, which in this case happened to be a password. I will be deleting this app and Apple should remove it from the store. Even if the item on my clipboard had not been a password, stealing pasted data when I never asked to paste anything is malware behavior.
Downloaded the free version to get a feel for the app. However, the features I’m interested in are all only available in the $5 app. I’m unable to really do much of an evaluation. For example, it the app doesn’t seem to display ships that are moored. Since the settings feature is unavailable in the free version, I don’t know if this can be turned on or not.
The images of the app in the App Store implied I would access details of the ships on the map. This is incorrect. That information is an in-app purchase. Also, I found this app while researching Maritime Traffic website and there were vessels listed on that map that are not shown on the free map of this app. Just simply not what was advertised (misleading images) and the data seems to be lacking.
I am able to view the ship information, but a pop up ad every five clicks is pretty ridiculous. Banner ads are one thing. Annoying pop-ups are enough to cause me to delete the app. No app = no ad revenue. The app publisher needs to pay attention. FindShip is a free app that does the same thing, without as many ads.
Cannot find rather search bar to find a vessel, because every-time I touch something, I get loud, obnoxious ads. I understand the purpose of ads, but not every 10 seconds. Irritating app. They want to force you to pay, but if I can’t get past the free version, you are not getting my money.
I am currently on the Illinois River and I can see where I am. I’m on a towboat and i zoomed into where I am and not all large vessels are covered. Wish I could see other boats near me while off watch and even while off the boat could find where my boat is. It’d be a lot cooler if u did.
So many people have given it bad reviews! I’m also wondering why you have to give your credit card info in order to use the app? Definitely fishy. They want you to upgrade to an app that actually works. Also, seems like a great app to pay for if you are an ocean shipping pirate! I’m not.
I don’t see anywhere near the targets I see in other apps. What about the paid version? I’m not going to buy this app if it’s the same severely lacking data minus the ads
I tried the lite version and not user friendly at all. Why buy the full version. Seems like every button you hit takes you to either an add or a request to buy. Let me try a usable app to see if I like it. I used findship before but apparently it is no longer available.
This app looks interesting, but while using it just played a loud ad without warning, while my wife was lecturing from home. The loud noise resumed even when I left and reentered the app, so I can’t safely say any more about the app.
This app marks every ship on its map as ‘Suspected’ in a nice bit red banner, yet offers NO explanation for this, unless you login. You can offer useful data in a free/lite app, there is no need to be this trivial about information that Should be shared freely.
I had the same app on my old phone and so much more information was available. The app now only gives you the name of the ship and if it is moving or still.
Dropped this app a year ago because it stopped showing barge traffic on Mississippi River. Re down loaded app again last night. Had 3 barges come by my cabin this morning and not one of them were tracked. Don’t waste your time with this app. It’s worthless!!!
This is absolutely thee worst app I have ever experienced. DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT! All it is is a advert to try to make you purchase something they claim works for free, and then on top of that, they want to collect your personal data. As soon as I’m done writing this review, this thing is going into the trash!
When I first got this app last year you could see a few ships here and there. Now it never seems to load you’re lucky to get one every once in a while. It even says sometimes zero or one ships out of 3000 to 4000 ships.
No tracking unless you pay. This service is free on other apps.
We live near a small shipping port on Lake Erie. My grandson and I check to see what boat is coming to our port and the ETA. Where did this feature go?
This app is up to date but keeps showing a notice that I need to update to a new version of the app. The notice is actually an ad. No honest app developer would allow such a dishonest ad to run on their app.
Only your location is visible. You have to buy it. Plenty of other options out there. App Support takes you to photo sharing site for planes. Really!?! I’m deleting...even if developer fixes this bait/switch strategy.
I understand that with a free version that you will either get some ads or have some features disabled, but with this version you get ads AND every thing is disabled! Why even bother?
It works well but the free version has banner ads (that's OK) and invasive full screen ads (infuriating) that I couldn't close without force quitting the app.
This app has went to crap last few weeks. Does t work at all and I paid 4.99 for it Used to be wonderful
I have container ships all around me but not a one shows in this app. I also have a full blown AIS app and there they all are. What gives?
Not impressed! I was able to follow my brothers for only a short distance before they disappeared. Even when they told were they were they still didn’t show up!
Really useless! Whatever you try to click it tries to sell full version. You can’t search for a ship, only shows map with all ships which readily available on websites.
The “Lite” version provides light, and. Does nothing… zero. Wanted to see if it would impress me enough to buy the full version, but … to much nothing is nothing.
I paid for the full version and it won’t show any vessels around my location. The app stops showing vessels around Ketchikan, Alaska nothing farther north.
Expected a great App after having Plane Finder. But a big disappointment. Limited viability, ships appearing inland, lack of information
With the late3st update, you have to pay to get any functionality. Don't bother with it unless you're ready to pay.
Here I sit on the ship canal to Corpus Christi and there are no ships on the map, just a glowing blue dot. Plenty of ships visible up in Houston and all over the world but nothing showing for here. Evidently you need to get the paid version to see ships in your location.
Why would I buy the paid version when the “lite” version does absolutely nothing. Does not show a thing other than a nice map of where I am. Not a single vessel.
I purchased all the up grades. Can’t even locate my own boat with all of the correct information. Other Apps can. I had hoped for a trade up, but this certainly isn’t it.
If you need or want to track or find a particular vessel this app is worthless.
It only shows ships in port. There is no capability to search for a specific ship. No tracking ability.
No button or Search option to find a vessel. So, I CANNOT find any vessel ! Strange.
So many ads that it’s unusable. Get Marine Traffic instead.
The life version has absolutely no features whatsoever. Down MarineTraffic instead. It is also free but far superior.
No search and way too many pop ups Rather useless.
Too many pop-up ads, no search, vessels missing. Not recommended.
Aimerais voir apparaître le bateau et son nom lorsque je le vois de mes yeux.
I understand and expect add banners in a free lite version, but the constant interruptions of video adds makes this version unusable. I might consider a pay once and done version, but refuse to pay exorbitant subscription fees. Too bad they made this version unusable and offer no reasonably priced ad free version.
No details shown unlike the other apps
This app is a none stop effort to up grade every time you try to use it.
The upgrade app is a little rich at $6.99 . Will think about it .
Can’t get much of it if you don’t pay
Interesting app with lots of Canada west coast information, but none for Atlantic Canada except St. John’s, Newfoundland. No ship activity in Halifax or Saint John, New Brunswick....????
Salut. Malheureusement je ne vois pas tous les bateaux. Principalement ceux qui passent en face de moi sur le St Laurent. Bye
Downloaded the free app, upgraded for $6.99, but my car was charged & $18.38, still can’t see any ships around me! Don’t get ripped off like I did!
Can’t find anything
Purchased the first version. No longer updating. Emailed them no response. Won’t spend the money again. Unreliable
Had the original ship finder free which became useless a while ago so I thought I would try the re-labeled "Lite" version before I laid out money for the paid version. It just never shows any ships in our area. At the moment I'm looking at two Bulk Carriers and a tanker anchored in outer Long Point bay on Lake Erie and nothing shows. It is showing NO ships on the Great Lakes except at the Locks on the Welland Canal. I guess the dozens of ships I have seen in the last two weeks have all sank and some how no one else noticed :-)
Garbage unless you pay for it
Way too many pop ups!
I understand this is a free version but there are way too many ads that pop-up, you can't even really use the app. Limit the amount of ads and you might get people excited enough about the app to pay for the upgrade.
Crap......
Won't track any ferrys in NL
Deleting.
Had it on my phone less than 60 secs and was shown 3 ads. Deleted it straight away. Apps like these are little more than bait and switch vehicles and spam movers.
Doesn't show any AIS ships and loaded with ads.
All the vessels are not shown. For example, I saw at least 10 ships at sea while testing the app but only one of them was indicated on the map. There are also a lot of advertisements. Very disappointing...
Total garbage!!! The new updates has ads popping up every ten seconds or less. VERY frustrating and essentially unusable.
So many ads (same one over and over) I spend more time waiting for them to end than I do using the app. I understand the need for ads but this is ridiculous. Save yourself the frustration and get something different. Deleted
Constant pop up ads make it unusable. Limited area coverage of tracking, not worth buying the ad free version.
Loved this app. But it no longer works since I updated my phone to ISO8. Map is blank says 0 of 2200 shown.
It used to show ships now I can't see any. Maybe it's iOS 8s fault. Please update
I live on an island within the operating area of one of the largest ferry systems in the world and use the app to check if ferries are on time. It's accurate and easy to use and helps me avoid long waits at ferry terminals when the boat is late. It's also good for timing kayaking trips to avoid ferries and other shipping.
Just plain doesn't work for the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Toronto area is not showing up with any ships. It's showing only a few boats in all of Lake Ontario. There has got to be more boats out there than its showing.
Not sure what is wrong. I see ships in Freeport, New York, St. Lawrence seaway, Great Lakes and St. John's NFL. But not in Miami, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax harbour. And there are ships, tugs and ferries there all the time.
Very inaccurate plotting. Frustrating.
Wouldn't pay for this. Searched Halifax Harbour and found no ships. Really? Free is the correct price for this app.
