A must read for Design professionals

Wonderful photography of the current design trends.

Lovely

This publication is sophisticated. It does a splendid job of curating and inspiring interior design ideas and related designers. Adding to all of this are celebrities. Yes, AD features their homes too. The results? Sublimely elegant content. Why a 4 Star rating? I would love to see more industrial design. I would also interviews with overlooked industrial architects — especially young and overlooked ones.

I'm impressed!

I received the print edition and so I also get the digital edition. I downloaded one issue just o check it out and it was a treat. This is the future of magazines. The clarity and color of the images are so much more vibrant than in the print edition. Although I like the print mag, I love the digital version also. There are a lot of photos that don't appear in the magazines and I love the interactivity. The floor plans that allows you to explore, or alternate angles of a photos. It also looks great vertical or horizontal, and the content rotates to fit beautifully in either orientation. I'm sold! The only down side is that it's a huge file. 900mb for one issue. Please allow a feature where I can delete the pages I don't want so I can keep just the pages I want on my ipad. This will allow me to keep the issues on my ipad and not have to delete into make room.

Totally useless app

What happened? A perfectly fine way to read AD was made essentially useless by redesign. Without a text zoom feature, you can no longer read the text on an iPad. Without the picture zoom feature, you can no longer see details in photos up close. If you can’t read the type and can’t enlarge the pictures, what good is this app? Very disappointed with this. I will stop reading until a fix is made. The recent necessary fix to this app completely made it useful and loved again. Thank you for paying attention to your faithful readers...much appreciated!

Impressed!

Love how dynamic this magazine. Bought single issue because of low stars. Most seem to be print subscribers complaining, so thought I would try. There are links out to goods, extra photos, etc. A little challenging to get used to when to touch a button, swipe, drag, etc., but it becomes intuitive. Very happy I took a chance. Love it! As ana side, I wish I could get this easily on my dad's computer too. He is legally blind and we use a 42" TV for the monitor. He loves this magazine and a computer version would be a dream.

LivingLaw22Version: 1.2
Gorgeous

Pictures on the same quality level of National Geographic. Homes, articles, and ads are all geared toward very high-end clientele, but it's fun to look at how the top 1% live. (Think movie-stars and CEOs. One always can get ideas, then scale it down to the real world.) Eye-candy for those who are frustrated wanna-be architects that never conquered that world. Shows what one could do if money was no object. If you like to look at gorgeous residential (and some commercial) architecture for fun, this is the mag for you.

No more zoom capability - It’s back again!

I love the magazine but not able to zoom in on pictures anymore makes one miss important details. Being able to zoom allowed to look into small details, which are as important as the big picture, sometimes more as they all together make the big picture. I wish they would bring it back. I asked and was told most likely not; so sad. Update 2/2/20: They brought the zoom in function back, which is great. The magazine still has some minor glitches, especially when swiping pages or the occasional mistake of having the incorrect footnote, however, the content is always great. I love this magazine and will continue to get it.

Love4italyVersion: 5.2
Great Magazine App

I still get the paper copy. But I love the extra pictures and the ability to see the latest issues before it arrives in my mailbox as well as back issues I’ve long since recycled. The only thing that is missing from this app as a way to share articles from within the app. I wish I could share my favorite articles with my friends. Condé Nast, add sharing and I’ll change my rating to five stars.

WehokevVersion: 5.2
The new style is not fun

Why did you have to change the fabulous format of the digital magazine? The new format is old, boring and one cannot amplify the pictures with two fingers, in fact, they took off that feature, leaving little pictures and a “demodé “ look. We are in the 21st Century, the old format was more high tech than this boring format. Let us have our magazine back to play with!

Comtesse D'ArtVersion: 5.0
More, please :-)

I haven't had any functional problems with this app. My problem is having the patience to wait for the next issue.

Glad to have on Mac!

I am really glad to have this available on Mac now but I would like to be able to view it full screen rather than one virtical page at a time. Either that, or I would like to have an online version that I can look at by logging into the AD website.

The visuals in this publication are excellent. All of the pictures are rich and near 3D in their resolution. The articles? Seems the folks are really impressed with themselves.

AD is one of the best magazine on the market. It is never boring and always makes sure you can’t wait to turn the page. Continue doing what you’re doing and always keep your readers looking for the next issue. Cheers Diane Theoret

Great quality; lots of ads

The content is high quality and varied, app is easy to navigate. However a bit repetitive if you consume their other media forms such as YouTube and Instagram. Also I notice most of the pages are ads, I don’t want to pay a subscription to see the same Miele ad in 3 consecutive issues

Architectural Digest Negative Reviews and Ratings

Makes me resign in constantly, no option for full screen

This app used to be way better. It constantly boots me out, and when I go to sign in, it has a “continue” button that doesn’t make me sign in, so why the boot? Also it used to let you go full screen without the menu bar always present, and now there’s no option for that. It’s a lot less immersive that way. Also wish there was a way to max out the picture quality, some still appear blurry. Good content though

Marino757Version: 6.0
Doesn’t actually download issues

When you’re offline and you try to read issues you’ve downloaded (you can tell because they have a checkmark next to the title), the pages are blank and you get a message that you won’t be able to read it without network access. What, then, was the point of downloading the issue? This is on an iPad mini, latest generation, latest iOS.

Anicknameisneeded1234Version: 6.0
Paywall despite subscription

I signed up for a print + digital access subscription and signed into the app with that info. That worked for a day or two and now I get a paywall on every issue of the magazine, even the ones it let me access previously. When I try to relink my subscription it says that it can’t be found even though I have 11 months left.

JaydenCobleVersion: 5.8
Paid for digital all access subscription cannot access site

Whenever I try to sign in on the site to download an issue, I am told I have no account and offered a new subscription. I have the invoice from my paid subscription just three months ago —very frustrating.

Kfk62Version: 5.8
The “digital” subscription doesn’t include the App.

This is a joke, yes? The digital subscription type does not allow you to use the app. Because that would make no sense! 100% regret this service.

Unusable

I wish it were like actually swiping through the magazine but half the time when you try to swipe to the next page it does nothing and you need to go into the side bar and select the next page. When trying to exit or go to the next page you need to swipe up or down to make the menu button appear and half the time when you swipe up or down it also does nothing, they need transparent over laid buttons that are small and not in the way to help guide you through and go between pages, there should also be a zoom out feature that you can see ye larger image and a way to read with your iPad flipped horizontally.

Harry vollmerVersion: 5.2
AD used to be the best digital mag — now the worst!

I used to look forward to the new issue of AD to read on iPad. It looked fantastic. You scrolled vertically for articles, could magnify most rooms, click to see captions and click for details to disappear, and the font was adjusted so you could read comfortably on your iPad. You could link to articles from the table of contents, and jump from article to article by clicking on a sidebar table of contents. Now it is as though Condé Nast just digitally uploaded the magazine page by page. No adjustment of font or layout. Good luck reading all that tiny text intended for a big magazine on your iPad with no magnification or zoom allowed! The helpful directions as you open the magazine read “swipe from right to left.” That is the extent of the app’s functionality. That’s all you are able to do once you are in the magazine. Want to revisit an earlier article when you’re at the end of the magazine? Hope you enjoy swiping through 100 pages to get there. Ready to close the magazine and revisit an old issue? I tapped and tapped but could find no exit function. I work with digital things all day and have for years and years so it’s not my problem— the English House and Garden share this problem. I had to click on the iPad home button to leave the magazine and every time I clicked on the app, the magazine didn’t open to the library with all the back issues — dumb business decision because I often have bought back copies in the past — but to that same issue on the page I had left. What’s going on, Condé Nast? First the July edition arrived a week into the month. But at least the magazine was a treat to read once it got here. Thanks for nothing, Conde Nast. I guess you are trying to save money by you are killing the golden goose. And will the celebs really want to share their homes with you if it means their homes are viewed with this limited app? The celebs do love their iPads. Doesn’t anyone at Condé Nast get that??

JennyJenkinsNewYorkVersion: 5.0
Landscape mode please!!

The three stars is solely for the app and not the content of the magazine. A feature that is not currently available for this app, but absolutely should be, is the landscape mode. Inability to see an entire image of a two-page layout (which is typically used for the featured article) is incredibly disappointing and frustrating. Even on a one page layout, you are constrained to the width of portrait mode when zooming in on a landscape photograph. Please, please, please add this feature and I will update this review immediately.

Carmz457Version: 5.7
New app just shockingly terrible

The new version breaks nearly everything. You can’t expand text or zoom into pictures anymore. The index is NOT HYPERLINKED now either, and the page numbers in the index DON’T MATCH THE PAGE NUMBERS. So, the index says 110, but you can’t jump there. You have to bring up the list of pages and scroll to page 110, but that is actually shown as page 108. If you go further, the discrepancy increases. It’s actually the worse magazine reader I’ve ever used, and for the last few years was one of the best. Crazy how lame it is, you have to really work at it to make it this bad.

SerialcofounderVersion: 5.0
Hate new format

You know good and well what all of the critics are saying so your pasting the optimized zoom for a response is bogus! What you’ve done was basically gone to a PDF of the actual print magazine with zoom whereas in the past the magazine was made for the digital format and was absolutely perfect! One of the best digital mags...but now it’s terrible! I imagine this is cheaper for you and even though your magazine has always been about quality you’ve chosen to go down the other path. So very disappointing. Even the resolution is different...shame!

Can't unsubscribe

I cannot login to the app to manage my subscription (unsubscribe). I cannot reset my password because it says it cannot connect to the server to process that request. I've called customer support who can't reset my password and said it was an Apple problem. I figured out how to manage my subscriptions and went to stop the auto renewal feature and the slider to turn off the feature is disabled. You cannot unsubscribe from this app/ magazine.

Really disappointing

This version of the AD app is extremely frustrating to use. It is way less functional than previous versions. Very difficult to navigate and hard to close an edition and move to another. It also doesn’t rotate on my iPad and doesn’t bring up the descriptions of what you’re looking at. Really surprising and disappointing that this is the best they can do.

Dennis704Version: 5.2
Only for subscription through Apple Store

Used to use this app a couple of years ago and loved the layout & functionality. Just renewed my subscription directly through AD, but the app will not recognize my new subscription account. The “Link print subscription” option only displays my old expired subscriptions. AD’s tech support can’t do anything about the issue….

Hermès BoyVersion: 5.7
Train wreck

This app is a train wreck. The sign up process is kafkaesque, and when you finally do get into it the UI is utterly user hostile. One false move with your finger and you will be warped into a different article. Unless of course you WANT to go to the next article, in which case it someone psychically detects this fact and blocks your first 5 attempts. To top it off, this app is just totally unnecessary. Ever heard of a web site?

George SnuffleupagusVersion: 5.2
Agh, just give me the regular magazine

I hate how this is not a direct copy of the print version - it's all "interactive" with different ads and layouts. It gets tremendously annoying to have to constantly flip the ipad on its side and back to see if there's a photo youre not seeing all of (sometimes theres a totally different photo for the two orientations, other times one is severely cropped).

ProShot2020Version: 1.2
AD no longer a pleasure to read on ipad

Worsening format changes make AD harder and harder to read/enjoy. Dense, tiny text that cannot be enlarged fills pages, photos are smaller, pages more crowded w/ a cluttered look. This used to be one of the view magazines that was more enjoyable in digital form. No more. I thought Anna Wintour had creative input here. Please fix this Anna! AD demographic are mostly the reading glasses set anyway. So are ipad users!

EJHSrVersion: 5.0
$7.99 monthly cost?

I love the digital magazine. My only concern is that my I-phone app does not advise of the cost in the app description. Only AFTER I downloaded it was I informed of a $7.99 monthly cost. Hidden costs like this take up space on my I phone!

Have been subscribing to Architectural Digest since the 70's ... Wonderful publication. As we move into a new age magazines have had a difficult time. I hope you are willing to pay the price to make the digital version first rate! Keep trying, please. Shocking new version

This version is terrible. You can only look at it in portrait on iPad. Not seeing both pages. Small fonts and you can not enlarge. Photos cannot be enlarged so often missing details. I am now reading it with my printed version instead of electronic. Absolutely useless and when is the next update?

Why can’t I click on and expand photos on AD iPad App?

I am a paid subscriber and can no longer appear to click on and expand photos displayed in the AD app on an iPad Pro, which is HIGHLY ANNOYING! Especially since so many photos are otherwise tiny or quite small and can’t be clearly seen at their displayed size. Whichever genius at AD decided this was a good idea, or is oblivious to this fact, should re-examine their career choice, and get up-to-date on current user design standards. Also - AD is getting ever smaller in terms of both content and advertising. Seems like a shell of its former self.

The new version of the app is almost unusable on the iPad mini, you can only see a full magazine page. The text is too small and cannot be adjusted.
