Final Cut Camera App Comments & Reviews
Final Cut Camera Positive Reviews
Cannot record to external drive any moreUpdate. Support promptly contacted me. Turns out app can no longer save to external APFS drive, but external ExFAT drive works fine (docs will be updated to reflect this). Would prefer APFS for various reasons but ExFAT works and now I can use external drive again. Really like HEVC Apple Log codec option for internal and external drive. Back to 5 stars app. —— After the last application update I get two entries under System Settings -> Files & Folders -> Final Cut Camera, one on and one off. I cannot turn the off to on. If I turn the one that is on to off then the second disappears. I can turn back on (only one entry remains). But as soon as I leave settings and go back to the app the second Off version of Final Cut Camera shows up in the off state in the Files & Folders. Inside the app I can only record to internal storage. Cannot select, allow, or record to external storage. Tried deleting app with setting in off and position and upon reinstallation the two On and Off entries show up again in Files & Folders. Hope this is fixed on an app update soon!.Version: 1.1
Incredible. Better than Blackmagic Camera App let me explain. If the developers are reading this kudos to you. This app is the real deal. Almost like magic. Aside from the amazing video features I’ve noticed the prores files are sharper and contain more data than other third party apps. This results in bigger file sizes but to me that doesn’t matter because I’m exporting to an SSD. I’ve noticed in post that I can push the image super far without the image breaking. This is incredible because this is matching some of my mirrorless cameras. I’ve done some comparisons between black magic, pearla and some other apps and they don’t even come close to Final Cut camera. A message to the developers I don’t know what kind of voodoo magic you’re doing. Keep doing it. I know that the iPhones are capable devices. If you can even somehow manage to pull off prores raw or some other raw codec such as cinema DNG I would literally put down $100 for this app or even contribute somehow. Keep up the great work!.Version: 2.0
Amazing app with a deal-breaker flaw… but easy fix to implementThis app is an amazing concept and has been executed very well overall. In fact, it’s so good that I have replaced the Camera shortcut on the Lock Screen of my 15 Pro Max with a shortcut to this app. Videos are simply easier to take in a way that looks good compared to the Camera app, thanks to the ability to finally force the phone to use the lens you choose (the stock Camera app is extremely reluctant to use the 5x telephoto lens to record video in all but the best lighting, and prefers to switch to a blurry, grainy crop of the main lens to gather more light). And there are several granular controls and indicators not available in the stock app that really help the experience. It’s overall really good. At the same time, it’s not perfect and there is a notable flaw that could be a major deal breaker. As of now the app will only save videos to a folder in the Files app called “Final Cut Camera”. What this app needs is the ability to choose the destination for saving video - such as, in my case, my camera roll in the Photos app. I’m not a pro and I don’t want my videos saved in a weird spot - I just want them in the regular old Photos app along with all my other shots. Finally, there are two more suggestions I have to improve, but these are not deal breakers. It would be nice to get an “auto FPS” setting similar to the stock Camera app, so that when enabled, the camera could reduce the frame rate to 24 FPS in very low light settings. Additionally, there’s no way to change the focal length after the video recording has started - it would be nice to still have access to the 13mm, 24mm, and 120mm buttons to be able to switch lenses mid-capture if necessary. If these issues are addressed, I will update my review to 5 stars immediately, as this app is a really good concept!.Version: 1.0.2
HelpCan you do it to my app now and that app was great I’ve been using it for a long time but I can’t access my media anymore. I just keep saying no media and have to restart like just to get to my media so please can we fix this cause I need to edit my videos thank you. You have a nice day. I went back in the app and it deleted every single thing I’ve recorded on this app so we need to fix this cause this is a big problem because all my videos I’ve created. I need this fixed urgently because I don’t know how you can get everything back. I really need a way to figure this out because I feel like I put so much trust on loyalty into this app and they’re not giving me the results. I want it because of what it was working great everything was amazing but when I deleted everything like what app does that?.Version: 1.2
Works GreatThe extra options & defaults make it a lot nicer than the regular camera. The HD & SDR, FPS & quality being easily accessible (just at the top of the screen), is probably the best part of it. It also just records overall smoother than the default camera, I can kind of tell a noticeable difference in the smoothness/speediness when using the default camera, versus the app. The microphone is more clear when using it as well. Overall, for what I've used it for, its nice, & it works well. -(iPhone 14) (also, sorry, im bad at making reviews.).Version: 1.0.1
Great potential, not up there yetFinal Cut Camera offers a lot of the basic features that you would want to control in your phone with as shutter speed, iso, white balance, etc. BUT it’s quite inconsistent sometimes. There are quite a few glitches and errors that happen, which can be frustrating when you’re trying to get a shot or then have to re record something. Also when you choose certain things like the grids lines overlay, they DON’T STAY. This is annoying because each time you have to go back in and re select them. It’s not the absolute hardest thing in the world. But as any filmmaker knows, it’s the little things that count and you just want to hit record as seamless as possible. Also everyone is right about the storage. It fills up on this app extremely fast and you have to delete the app to clear it for some reason. Even when you delete things you record from the app. Weird. Overall, I’d say it’s not consistent enough to be my go to app anymore. Love the easy interface. But if you need something reliable just use Blackmagic Camera. That’s what I’m going back to. I really want to like Final Cut Camera, I spent 4 months using it and I just can’t anymore. Hope they can improve but it’s just not where it needs to be for people who truly want to a good experience record on their phone..Version: 1.0.2
So far, So good!Camera is simply laid out and is easy to use, and is Very Economical when it comes to shooting in 4K; file sizes, that is, in comparison to other apps (Blackmagic, in particular, which is an unnecessary space hog). Also very easy to use digital zooms on all lenses, and for being a version 1.0 it is very ready to use right out of the box. Feels organic. If it needs anything it Needs a Level, and perhaps a separation of ISO from Shutter Speed elements, and perhaps an “add video to photo library” option and an optional function to combine zooms into one, like in the native camera app (but maybe that’s nitpicking, and not a pro type of thing) but so far, so good. Thanks Apple for another Great free app!👍.Version: 1.0
I think the app is great but since it is so new it has some flaws…One thing that I encounter when I open the app is that the app is really laggy and doesn’t load fast. If I take a video on it the video it’s not laggy when I rewatch it, but when you are recording it is laggy. Over all that is the only major problem that I encounter in the app. I think that it is a great app and I will probably be using it to take videos more often then the default camera app. I hope that these changes are made and the app will be great! I know that the app is fairly new at the time that I am writing this review and I know with new apps they will have some bugs with them..Version: 1.0
Fantastic start..a few thingsMost needed changes are level and a setting to auto save files to photos (as a PC editor getting files off the device is needlessly difficult if not in photos) there is also a nasty bug that glitches the first several ms of a video, often missing key moments when record button was pressed. Im stuck using this because the DJI app drops frames and the stock camera is missing settings this app has. Hoping this bug is fixed soon!.Version: 1.0.2
This is a great app, but it needs some improvements. This app is really good, and I enjoy using it on my iPhone XS Max. However, I’ve encountered two issues that I hope the developers can address. First, the app causes my phone to get very hot, so maybe they could optimize it further. Second, when I’m recording videos, I would like the option to turn on the flashlight to capture footage in dark places. Overall, though, it’s a very good app..Version: 1.2
Why no watch control? The app works well. Offers better control than the native camera app. I was hoping to streamline functionality as a Final Cut 11 user, and have been looking for new options since filmic went subscription based. That being said, this being an Apple product, and not supporting any kind of monitoring or control from the Apple Watch is kind of unforgivable. Both filmic and the native app have done this for some time. I’m just going to have to keep using the filmic legacy app without updates until Apple rectifies this, or Black Magic offers it with their app..Version: 1.1
MulticamThis app seems to be legit but after using the apps multicam feature one time it is no longer connecting with my other Apple devices. I’ve tried all the recommended steps to resolve this issue, but it still doesn’t work! I recently had to record using my three devices separately since the connect to multicam feature isn’t working. I seen that this app had a update in the early stages, but the problem is still there. Also it would be helpful if we could submit feedback to Apple for this app in particular. Please fix this problem!.Version: 1.1
Easy to use, feels like a native appI greatly enjoy using the Final Cut Camera app. It’s much easier to use than many camera apps that give you extra control; while still giving ample options. I enjoy filming in LOG for a more natural look, and the option to film in HEVC is great for file space. My only request, please add a 35mm lens option like with the standard Apple camera app!.Version: 2.0
Needs some workHaving to jump to this app because Filmic doesn’t support 4k HDR 60fps somehow even though it is possible here and in the native camera app — I MUCH prefer filmic’s controls, including ability to adjust tint with white balance (cannot here, so annoying) and the speed at which adjustment locks to exposure or white balance can be turned off (so painful here). If Apple put in more time to tune this app to consider usability more this would be fantastic..Version: 1.1
Great AppThis has been a great addition over the stock camera app with more professional controls. I’d love to see the ability to turn on “Lock White Balance after starting Recording”. I’d also like to see an update that includes Spatial Audio. Right now that feature is only available on the default camera app and should be on the Final Cut Camera app..Version: 1.0.2
PhenomenalThe first and only choice for my content creating source. Very user friendly. Thanks to easy to a use interface, I am able to make my best content using the highest level of quality. Photos are crisp, vibrant and detailed. Video is great and the stabilization is on par with film studio equipment..Version: 2.0.1
Great but needs some extra featuresI love using this app to film content. I feel like it levels up my filming. But it takes up so much storage and doesn’t have a good way to show if you actually deleted footage or not. Would love if it was like the photos apps where you can see what you recently deleted and either delete them right away or wait the 30 day period..Version: 2.0
Simple is greatI often shoot with a client that likes to get b-roll on his phone. The simplicity of this app is perfect for him; I just set it to manual shutter and he’s good to go. I’d love to see support for ProRes LT recording. Also support for opening from the Camera Control button. Lastly there’s a bug I’ve noticed where it says I’m out of space even though the settings app says otherwise. Unclear which is true..Version: 2.0.1
Amazing App missing important featuresThe app is great I can have more granular controls with the camera. But the fact that we can’t map the camera control button to quickly open the app or use the camera control in the app in general for a first party app is beyond me. Besides this fact the app is great for creatives that shot photo and video on the iPhone!.Version: 1.1
Great Video Camera App—One Wish ThoughI would like Apple to consider adding a feature to mute/hide all system and app notifications while the camera is recording. I forgot to set focus to “Do Not Disturb”, and I found myself fumbling to dismiss notifications that were being delivered while recording, while trying to prevent the app from switching (and interrupting my recording!).Version: 1.0
Love it but needs some minor yet important tweaksI love the app but on my 15 pro max, as I Zoom in the camera glitches between lenses and it then proceeds to not appear it show it zooming in anymore yet when I replay the video it DID in fact zoom actually all the way, please fix 🙌🏽 fun &!the biggest issue is when the app Goes unused for a even a day it RESETS ALL SETTINGS & Formats! Please fix asap.Version: 1.2
Please address this issue asapNow I love this app it’s great for filming high quality video on my 15 Pro but I’ve encountered a problem where the app doesn’t record the first few seconds of my video I’ve recorded things and when I go to watch back the footage the first few seconds of the video are cut off this needs immediate attention.Version: 2.0
Camera app is great. But lacks support for bluetooth audioI tried to connect my bluetooth mic as input source to the app. But it shows only this device no other device as mic input. In one of the other apps am able to select other bluetooth device as input to record the audio. I think apple should support this feature to get 5 stars..Version: 1.0
Promising but needs work.Still waiting for a white balance lock on record , and the app is still very glitchy and takes an entire second or two to respond on iPhone 17 pro, but offers some good settings for video codecs and color profiles so maybe it will be useful soon 🙏. The native iPhone Camera app works much better although you still need an external ssd for ProRes 4k60fps..Version: 2.2
AmazingThe camera is great quality, but besides that I have a camera problem that causes my videos or pictures of shake, when I downloaded this app that problem went away!! I am super happy because I love that videos and pictures and now I can !!.Version: 1.0.1
Laggy / unreliableIt’s hard to believe this app was created by Apple because it’s extremely laggy / unreliable. On an iPhone 15 Pro with lots of available storage this app has lots of problems: * app becomes laggy. Sometimes the record button won’t work. You’ll press it but you may need to press it again * it records in the wrong orientation. You could be recording horizontally but it still saves vertically * the worst bug: stabilization will mess up the first two seconds of almost every clip! The whole frame will jump. Almost like it kicks in late. This makes this part of the video unusable. This app records nice video but these issues make the app unpredictable / unreliable.Version: 1.1
AveragePretty much the same as the original camera app except for, as others have stated it lags a lot. Annoying when you’re trying to take a video. The original camera app has no issues so I wonder what’s going on with this one it’s suppose to be better but I’m not seeing it. Maybe after a few dozen updates and operating system changes it will be better..Version: 1.0
Can’t use Bluetooth with mySmall Rig Brandon Li IPhone 15 pro max wireless handle Bluetooth / button. Can’t find any info out there regarding this issue. When I connect Bluetooth it operates my volume control, in one direction, raising the volume level, each time I press it.. It works with BM app on my iPhone 15 pro max, but not this app. Hope they fix it soon..Version: 1.0
Remote App neededI’m just starting to use the app and find it very easy to use with the controls easy to access. I would like a remote camera app for the Apple Watch similar to the remote app for the standard Camera app. Hopefully this in the works. Thanks..Version: 1.0
Almost Great! The simple user interface is great. I've been using the black magic pro camera app which sometimes feels glitchy. This app feels cleaner and pretty much as useful as the black magic pro app at this point for my purposes. But it's missing 2 vital things. Firstly, the 48 mm focal length/2x zoom is missing (I'm on an iphone 16 pro). Secondly, having the ability to switch cameras like how you would on the normal camera app would be amazing. I know it's not as useful for cinematic shots, but it would be great for vlog style videos shot on log. If these two things are added, it would easily be a full 5 stars..Version: 1.1
Yes. And noI’m currently using the iPhone 17, however it’s cool I can click the camera control button to record, but why can’t I use it to zoom in or access advanced controls? And how come I can’t have and option to open it by clicking the button in the control settings? Those are some ideas to integrate into this.Version: 2.0
GREAT APP - 2 complaintsThe app should allow me to access my footage when i am on the phone, I understand not being able to film, but it should not disable the entire app. There should be a native photos album I can use for uploading to different applications to avoid saving footage twice..Version: 1.2
Fantastic update, However(Update) This release is super buggy. Certain camera settings just reset randomly after closing out the app like stabilization and preview lut and leveler and I’ll start to record and not realize my footage is super shaky. Also I shot about 7 fairly important clips yesterday and chose 4k 60 and when I bought them into post they were 32 fps. We need updates more often. (Original review) The addition of h.265, lut preview and levelers are great but I can’t believe Apple doesn’t let you launch from the capture button. Please add this so I can map the capture button to launch Final Cut camera!.Version: 1.1
MULTICAM NOT WORKINGI went through the troubleshooting steps. I have over 150gb of storage, deleted then downloaded app, shutdown pad and opened and, Bluetooth and WiFi on. If I open the app and start recording then it’s fine but when I try to use multicam the app freezes and I have close the app then open to use again. Same thing when trying use on my 14 pro.Version: 1.0
Great Pro VideoI really like Final Cut Camera. It’s excellent for my workflow. I think this app is off to a great start, however, I wish it also had camera control functionality with the camera control button on iPhone 16 Pro. I would give the app 5 stars if it had that functionality!.Version: 1.2
Good, but doesn’t free up space when deletingIt’s a decent app, but I noticed it isn’t releasing space when deleting videos/items, so you have to delete the app (so you delete its documents and data) to free up the space. It’s a pretty frustrating bug considering that videos take up a lot of space and space is very limited on iOS devices..Version: 1.0.2
Recording jitterSeeing a lot of jitter and a substantial loss of natural stabilization vs the pure camera app. Using 15 Pro Max. Just doesnt look or feel as smooth when shooting. Other than that this has the potential to be something great. When shooting it needs to give the exact results we get when shooting with the camera app as far as stabilization, and smoothness..Version: 1.0
LOG and H.264 support missingIPhone 13 mini Can we get LOG and H.264? We can already shoot 4k30fps H.264 in the regular camera app by disabling HDR, so why is the option missing completely in this app? I also know the phone, hardware-wise, is capable of shooting 4k60fps HDR LOG H.265 so give us the option! What’s the point of a ‘pro’ camera app if you won’t unlock the true full potential of the phone?!.Version: 2.0.1
Not bad.So much better than the default camera app, but I still think that the Blackmagic camera app is better..Version: 1.0
Seulement des vidéosL’application est bien, mais il faudrait avoir l’option de prendre des photos et non seulement des vidéos..Version: 1.0
Add iPad supportI love the features in this app, but please format the app so it looks better on the iPad.Version: 1.0.2
Please include Apple Watch controlsAs someone who films alone from a tripod, having an Apple Watch as a viewfinder and remote for basic controls is extremely useful. Please add this support in the future! I'd love to be able to use this camera for everything I do..Version: 1.0
Good appReally liking this one no issues so far.Version: 2.0.1
Saved meMy actual iPhone camera app stopped working and this app saved me! It’s even better than the original camera..Version: 2.0
BKGood app but, need to redesign the app icon. It looks very basic not met the Apple standards..Version: 2.0.1
Review on Final Cut Camera AppThe app is quite good, but i really hope that there will be a Final Cut Camera App for iPad too since iPad now comes with a beautiful camera capable of shooting in 4K 60fps.Version: 2.0
Where is H.264 ?H.264 setting is missing. Can't use..Version: 2.0
Everything’s Great Except..Hello, I’m a professional videographer/content creator using the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and I rely heavily on the ProRes RAW video feature for high-quality footage. I primarily use the Final Cut Camera or Blackmagic Camera app for this workflow. However, I noticed a significant limitation: unlike the regular iPhone Camera app, the Final Cut Camera does not offer a zoom slider — neither the round dial nor a smooth linear slider. This might seem minor, but the zoom slider is an essential creative tool for many creators. For example, it allows dynamic zooms in/out during shots, especially when paired with DSLR-style lenses. Currently, lacking this feature forces workarounds that disrupt creative flow and efficiency. I would love if you could consider adding: -The zoom slider from the stock Camera app in ProRes RAW mode for Final Cut Camera. -A smooth zoom slider already available in Final Cut Camera for precise, gradual zooming. This would give creators more creative freedom and reduce unnecessary workflow complications. I’m not alone in this — many creators I know have expressed the same need..Version: 2.0
Amazing! It’s just so nice especially log recording..Version: 1.2
Nice appClean, free and easy to use!.Version: 1.0
Simple but brokenIt keeps forgetting my settings each time I open the app. I have to set everything again..Version: 1.1
Unstable Performance and Limited File OptionsFinal Cut Camera is a good app to do more advanced video shooting than the standard camera app while not being as cumbersome as more dedicated third party apps like Blackmagic Camera. That said, despite being an Apple developed app and running on my iPhone 16 Pro, I will frequently have to "restart" the app because of very low performance in the live view, where the preview looks like it dips to 5 frames per second or even worse. I haven't been able to determine a cause of this issue and it's certainly frustrating and unacceptable for a device which I use primarily for its video capabilities. Finally, while they recently added the ability to use h265 to record LOG which is amazing and a really user-friendly option, it would be great to have ProRes LT which might be an ideal balance between file size and quality..Version: 1.1
Fractional frame ratesLooks like it would be a handy tool to use in certain cases, however lack of support for fractional frame rates (23.98, 29.97) limits its usefulness in dual system production environments. Blackmagic Camera handles fractional frame rates just fine..Version: 1.1
Needs improvementTried it out works great but I don’t understand why there isn’t a photo option. 14PM.Version: 1.0.1
Black magic cam is betterI hope you look forward in the app Blackmagic cam and add the same futures that the app has to Final Cut..Version: 1.0.1
Camera is missing pro featuresCompared to other camera apps this offers little more than the stock camera app, however: - HEVC compression is very limited by bitrate, in other app we can select high or extreme (150mbps) options which is crucial for quality in many prosumer use cases - can’t use an external Bluetooth mic like DJI Mic 2 directly without hardware connection, can connect directly without the receiver using other apps. The same with AirPods..Version: 1.0.1
Narrow use caseI don’t know how many people actually record live in a multi cam situation. I usually do my multicam edits on my computer, not my phone or tablet. And that seems to be the major selling point here is that you can link and do multicam editing. When Final Cut Camera was announced in the spring, I was eager to try it out. Now I’m mildly disappointed because of what appears to be artificial software limitations in what is otherwise and nice. When compared to other camera apps out there like Blackmagic Camera, Final Cut Camera is lacking. I can shoot HEVC only on FCC, but others apps support ProRes 422, 422 LT and other codecs. I can only assume that this is a marketing gimmick by Apple to get people to invest in a new iPhone, as it doesn’t appear to be a tactical limitation. If you want to stay in the Apple ecosphere, then this is a great camera app for you; there are other better choices though..Version: 1.0
So Surprised To See This!I love having a camera with pro controls and an Apple feel. Someday I'd love to see support for taking photos and a setting to retain the settings applied in the app. Otherwise, this is great to see..Version: 1.0
ITS FINALLY HEREI have been waiting for a camera app with manual controls from Apple and I can’t believe it’s finally here! This was the highlight announcement for me at the 2024 iPad Pro event lol.Version: 1.0
