About Tin Can - Companion App (Tin Can)
Remember when phones just made calls? When your best friend’s number lived in your head and your social network was whoever answered the landline? Tin Can brings that freedom back — but for your kid.
It’s a screen-free phone that runs on Wi-Fi and only calls approved contacts. No apps. No strangers. No doom scrolling. Just grandparent chats, playdate plans, and “Can I stay five more minutes?” calls.
• Approve who they can call (and who can call them)
• Set call hours (like bedtime is not party line time)
• See call history
• Share your Tin Can with friends to grow the crew
• Control multiple cans from one place (power move)
Tin Can: Built for kids. Approved by the same generation that made prank calls on rotary phones.

With the huge influx of users on Christmas there were some hiccups but I will say that their support has been so responsive even on Christmas Day! Support was very communicative during their issues and they personally reached out to make sure our issues were resolved. Our phone is now set up and the app is working properly and my kids could not be happier calling their friends and family. The phone and app deliver exactly what we were looking for and we have recommended to our friends.
Wish I had bought this earlier. My child is having a blast calling their friends, cousins, grandparents and aunties. I bought an address book to go with it. Amazing they are learning how to actually talk and not just send messages, experience the thrill of not knowing who is calling and develop independence making plans with their friends. This is a small company and I’m excited to supporter them. Very responsive human customer support. I look forward that Tin Can activates international numbers!
People giving bad reviews for a single morning of inconvenience would always be looking for something bad to say anyways… don’t listen to those reviews. The company increased traffic on the app by orders of magnitude overnight. They crashed, they recovered, and the app/phone works great now. As someone who works in tech, I applaud the recovery, I don’t critique the misstep. This is perfect for both of our kids.
Absolutely love everything about our Tin Can. The design of the phone and setup were seamless and well thought out. The entire experience has been exciting and so fun for our family. The support during Christmas was outstanding and we are so happy that our kids can connect with friends and family without screens!
I think there was an unfortunate incident around Christmas for these guys. I’m not sure why there are so many bad reviews. This app is great. Setup on the phone was so simple it’s hard to believe. I think there may have been some upset people around Christmas, but I don’t think that’s the norm. The kids love the phone and it’s worked flawlessly so far.

The app has been difficult to load since we received our Tin Can. I’m hopeful the developers will improve the user experience as more folks purchases their products. I would also love to see a push option for sharing the tin can # on the app without the promotion link.
Everything is working great except for the occasional received call that does not connect. Still trying to troubleshoot some issues but overall so fun for my 7 year old to be able to talk to her friends and family.
This phone was so easy to set up and works great. My 6 year old and 4 year old love calling Grandma. We have had friends call us from the phone too. I have been recommending it to my friends in real life.
This has been my kids favorite Christmas gift by far. They thought of everything! They are doing an amazing job with such a huge Christmas morning rush of people signing up. Very impressed!
We just got ours in as a gift for Christmas! I’m so excited to give it to the kids. We got it set up and it was very easy and worked immediately. Recommend so far!
Not sure about earlier problems and the reasons for negative reviews. But as of today 6/30/26, everything works seamlessly! Fun little phone for my kids. Love the control it gives me as a parent. We have wanted a landline, but we weren’t sure how that would look with scam callers, etc. TinCan Solves that!
Tin can is so fun to use! I don’t get why people don’t like it, it’s so much more fun than FaceTime or calling on your phone! It is also so easy to set up and add contacts. But my favorite thing about it is the fun colors and easy speed dial buttons! Anyway, don’t let these reviews fool you, tin can is an awesome thing to get for your kids!
We got it set up and working in minutes. Pure magic for the kiddos - first call was to their Aunt and Uncle and cousins to wish their twin cousins happy birthday! thank you for making this screen-free phone!!
Tin Can - Companion App Negative Reviews and Ratings
Updated: it’s now January 2nd and the phone still isn’t working. However, tin can has started being very responsive and helpful again and I wanted to give them credit for that. It seems the errors are being fixed but very slowly. Hoping we’re up and running sometime soon! We bought this phone for my kid as a gift from Santa on Christmas morning. We’re 5 days past Christmas, and we have yet to get the phone to work. Apparently it’s not connecting to the server, but the company has also stopped responding to all customer service requests. My app glitches every time I push the manage availability, we just get a grey screen. Completely disappointed by this product and company so far. I am hopeful we hear from them and get this resolved. The kids who have them working sound like they’re really enjoying them.
Please fix the app so that the physical item doesn’t become a brick. The app will often give me “Error - please log out” and then won’t let me log back in; or I get to the login screen and enter my info and the “log in” button does nothing when I press it. My kid loves the Tin Can, but it’s annoying to not have an app to support it appropriately.
I feel like I'm paying for a cheap plastic phone that's not comfortable to dial on nor operates like a POTS phone we've seen in the last 20 years but instead it's own brand of weird and cheap. The service feels silly. I like not getting spam calls but my word is adding contacts tedious. I'm certainly not going to hand over my contacts either; can't say I trust most companies these days with my digital data. Also, it's yet another company with AI support that just feels so clunky not to mention more anti-labor, late-stage capitalist garbage. It's a sign of how much you respect your bottom line over real customer service IMO
Their woe is me fail on Christmas was how it started. My issue is that we’re well into January and though they sent an email saying the network is now stable, my daughter is learning what a paperweight is, instead of speaking to her cousins - who we also purchased phones for. Three phones that can’t get a call to reach the next, though they from time to time appear in the call log. Great idea. Exceptionally poor execution.
Calls are spotty and work once and a while. Cute concept and hoping it starts to work better.
I’m a current owner of the tin can phone. I created an account through the web. I open this app, enter my account credentials, tap the ‘Log In’ button and it literally does nothing. Failure to launch. The setup for this phone has been nothing but one roadblock after another. And looking at the FAQ associated with the app the answer no nearly all app related issues is…close the app and start again.
Multiple hang ups during initial installation. Able to to overcome them until the final roadblock at the disclaimer about 911 service. even closing the app and then later deleting the app and reinstalling did not allow set up finish. They say they have it running smoothly, but that's not the case.
The interface and phone are visually appealing, but core usability breaks beneath the surface. Contact import, an essential workflow, fails to function reliably, with contacts not syncing and manual entries not saving correctly. Server instability during peak usage was another issue. The product looks polished, but its fundamentals don’t hold up. Utterly horrible
Every single time I open the app, it has logged me out. When I try to log back in, after entering my login info the login button doesn’t work. The only solution is to delete the app and reinstall it from the App Store. Has been doing this for 3 months.
It is now 4 days after Christmas and my daughter still can’t call my phone, a basic functionality that is paid.. unfortunately can’t recommend this to anyone until the product is fixed.
I envisioned my daughter excitedly calling her friend who also got a Tin Can phone on Christmas morning. Unfortunately the app is down, can’t login, cant add each other as contacts, can’t call. It’s a brick currently. I will update if/when the product works.
Looked forward to gifting this since August, set it up on Christmas eve and now after gifting it’s a dud as the app is not responsive and we can’t call out. Very disappointed so far. Would have hoped the company was ready for this influx of users at once.
Concept is cute, terrible quality, can’t even use. Can barely hear, constant feedback and echoing. Fighting with customer service to get my money back
Tried for over 45 minutes to get the thing to work. All Bluetooth, WIFI, and prompts appeared to work and then ultimately we keep getting a network error. The FAQs all reference known errors that they are working on with no fixes.
Phone itself is awesome but we’ve had it 24 hours and the app itself is really inconsistent
Phone not working properly and after multiple attempts to reach costumer service no response, tried to call goes to voicemail which is full, no response from email either.
App doesn’t even work. You can’t login because the login button does nothing. I was able to login once and it just said Error. So, the phone is a literal tin can. Cannot even set it up to use it.
Have not been able to complete setup. Can’t get past the 911 Activate screen. When attempting to bypass without activation, warning screen comes up but doesn’t scroll to allow to continue. When selecting Activate button, it won’t acknowledge my address. Can’t complete set up for my phone.
When you open it, it requests email and password. When I typed it in wrong, it points it out. When I typed it in right, nothing happens
Idea for the phone is great. The app execution leaves a lot to be desired. App crashes a lot, especially when managing contacts.
Doesn’t open every time, significant lag
So right out of the gate when I scanned the QR code and submitted my email address, I failed to get an email with a code. Upon contacting support I explained myself a few times, getting increasingly confused at the bizarre responses they gave me until I realized I was talking to an LLM. Absolute waste of my time. Finally hours later a real human (I think) responded with an apology, but after some back-and-forth they told me that my provider (fastmail) was blocking them "for some reason" and they expected me to use another address. I pay for email explicitly so I can rest assured that a garbage company like Google isn't going to cut me off, which matters even more to me since this will be an account connected to my child. So that's a no-go. Now I'm trying to figure out if I'm going to return this or...I dunno, but I would never recommend this company after this experience. It's obvious they don't really have the chops or care to support this product effectively. Think twice before buying!
Phone doesn’t work. Always goes to voicemail. Horrible service. Sad. It had potential.
Happy to fix this review after the app is updated. First of all, I want to give credit where it’s due, which is the colors and branding of the phone and the company is amazing. The design of the phone itself with the cord being so loose is kind of silly, given that a lot of kids are gonna use this. They pull and snatch and are reckless with the phones. So it comes off very easily. But the thing where it loses most respect is the actual app itself. Seems like the app is written in WordPress or something, and it’s extremely glitchy and not efficient. Sometimes the calls go through sometimes they don’t, changes in the app take a phone. Even hard resetting your phone sometimes doesn’t affect the changes right away. It’s a very frustrating experience. Again, happy to fix the reviews of the Apple.
Our phone hasn’t worked from the beginning. We’ve had it three months and so far every call has been static or dropped kids tried calling my cell phone and it goes straight to voicemail. However, no other phone or landline does this only the Tin Can phone. I try and call the kids and I get a message saying that my friend is not available. The kids are unable to talk to their aunts, uncle‘s friends or anyone on this device. A total waste of money and time huge disappointment. Tried contacting customer service have not gotten any response. Other than an automated AI message . As well as sent a text message. The concept is great. The product is trash.
Frustratingly slow, takes forever to load. Click buttons and nothing happens.
