Canon Camera Connect Positive Reviews
Love it so farThis is my first ever “real” camera. A canon EOS r100 (which I love) and being able to do everything this app allows me to do with both taking pictures (using it as a remote and changing camera settings which is the best when dealing with astrophotography) as well as being able to import and/or delete things from the memory card without it ever leaving the camera AND save to my phone for super easy sharing; is just absolutely amazing and makes this amateur photographer (who’s not actually great at getting pics off the device they were taken with (they typically just stay there) these features are perfect. Love it.DoubleD~420Version: 3.2.30
Works Great for importing Photos Quickly!I’ve had my Canon Rebel T6 for a couple year now and I’ve been using this app to import my photos directly to my iPhone. The app is easy to figure out and use! I love that I am able to import the photos to my iPhone and keep the quality of the photos, it’s also very useful to quickly delete any unwanted photos on your camera. I definitely recommend this app whether you’ve had your Canon Camera for awhile or are just starting out with your camera!.MezziMossVersion: 3.1.10
Needs video support, clunkyI want to like this app, but Canon hasn’t done any of the things they should do to make it work well. There is no support for connecting automatically to the right access point, so when the phone gets cranky and decides to stop connecting because there’s no infrastructure behind it DNS, routing), you end up having to delete everything on both sides and recreate the connection setup. And there is no way to import movies—only photos—which is a pretty bad limitation these days. It is, however, better than nothing, I guess… except when your camera is locked in a waterproof enclosure and you can’t get video off of the flash card. Then, it is actually not better than nothing. 🙃.DgatwoodVersion: 3.2.30
Problems with ConnectionI feel like every time I go to connect my camera (T7 Rebel) to my phone, it will be connected for about three seconds before it disconnects. Sometimes I won’t even be able to find the camera on the phone, it’s really frustrating. When it does connect though saving the photos can be a problem too, it would be nice to be able to do things outside of the app while they are being transferred. I haven’t been able to save 300+ photos cause I keep on getting mad cause the app wouldn’t stay connected.
When the app does what it’s supposed it’s a good app, but they just need to work on ease of connection..The judgemental freakVersion: 3.4.1
I finally figured it all out! This camera does so much. On vacation and I finally took the time to learn more functions! I love the remote camera mode using your smartphone! It has to be with the same wi-fi area. That’s ok. The sending feature from camera to phone is wonderful. I need to know if it has the ability to do multiple picture uploads. A high quality video is gonna take way too long, & that’s the only bummer. If it had the way of airdrop then this would be gold! Overall, I love ❤️.ApienotsVersion: 3.1.1
Best Cameras In the WorldI absolutely love Canon camera. I have been using them for the last 4 to 5 years. They’re fast, compatible, Reliant if you take good care of them, and also perfect for bloggers or content creators like myself. I appreciate its true natural features as well as, settings which provide 4K high-quality videos of actual skin tones. The Features are up to date and easy to use. I highly suggest this company’s (Canon) product, and I hope you enjoy their cameras as much as I do..RedhotgurlVersion: 3.5.11
Canon ID required?I’m a long-time Canon user, and I’ve used this app in the past. But recently (months ago) this app frustrated me: I discovered a Canon ID (login account) is now required! I found this out when I was away from internet and I could NOT transfer my photos because of the required internet login. Grrrr! Also, even after the registration and login (via cell data), it took me at least 15 minutes to connect my camera to my iPhone (direct connection instead of LAN). Confusing menu settings. Not intuitive, in my opinion. I like the features, but hate the login and connection methods..Lux LucidVersion: 3.5.11
Ease of useThis app is simply very helpful especially for beginners/ amateurs. The importing is fast if you have adequate space on your device. You can preview and delete unwanted pictures from your camera before transferring to device. Unfortunately you can’t preview videos before transferring/ importing. A little difficult to switch networks if you already have one saved to your camera/ app. Overall, easy to use and handy..AlamrocasVersion: 3.1.1
Good, when it worksI like this Canon camera. I’ve been using Canon cameras, lenses and accessories for 6 decades. For my current photo needs I don’t need my SLRs or other cameras. This Canon power shot/ momo scope and my iPhone are all I need now.
When the transfer from camera to iPhone works, it’s an easy pleasure. But there are times, with camera and phone next to each other, that it won’t connect and I have to try repeatedly until eventually it works. Also, I don’t see how I can download updates to the camera. If not for these issues I would be giving the camera five stars..RAM3025Version: 3.4.1
Amazing! Works great! This is the best app ever. All you have to do is connect your camera and press import, and then boom, all of your pictures in one place. And it works for all of my devices! My iPhone and my laptop both work, but it’s especially handy for my iPhone so if I want to show people the photos I’ve taken, I can just show them on my phone instead of having to drag around a super expensive camera or a huge laptop. Recommend!.Ilike1111Version: 3.5.11
Good but slightly difficultI love that I can easily move my pictures from my camera to my phone or iPad. The only down fall is that for some reason the quick connection never works for me and I have to go through a slightly longer process to get my phone and camera to connect. I’m not sure why it is that way, but I’m used to it now and just treat it like it’s supposed to be part of the process. Honestly I should try to look it up and figure out why but like I said, it’s a habit now..HAP360Version: 3.2.0

Connecting is easy but app is buggyThe process to connect phone & camera is easy. I wish it didn’t have to be wifi and it could be bluetooth. The app does a silly thing where it prompts you to sign on or agree to terms & conditions AFTER you connect to your camera and you can’t do those things when your wifi is the camera. I would suggest any prompts that require internet connection should be once the app launches so it’s seamless for the user..Juliennne CVersion: 3.5.11

Canon Camera Connect Negative Reviews
Yet another app ruined with “updates”Admittedly, I rarely use the canon camera connect app, as I don’t usually have a need for remote shooting. That said, I have used it in the past in order to take “selfies” with my R5 while hiking/finding myself in remote yet picturesque areas. All I ever had to do was go to my camera’s settings and turn on the wifi pairing, find the WiFi in my phone, open the app, and tada, I could snap a good shot for memory’s sake.
Well, I hadn’t use the app in quite a while, but I found myself in such a setting today. After hiking for miles through a japanese forest (and taking ample pictures via my R5), I reached a spot that would have made for a great memory selfie. I started the process of connecting my camera to my phone via my camera’s wireless mode. Immediately the app told me I could no longer use it unless I gave it access to my “precise location”. I don’t understand why that would be a necessity in order to take a photo using my camera, but I begrudgingly turned it on (never having to do so before). I then spent 10 mins trying to get my phone to connect, only to constantly receive the “unable to connect to local network”. Really? There’s no local wifi in the middle of a forest to connect? You don’t say!!
I don’t know what update caused this change, but this was never an issue in the past.
Just yet another example of making things worse for the sake of “improvement”. Seeing as I generally used this app while being far from cell service/any local network, this app is now effectively useless to me. Thanks Canon..EducatedVoiceOfReasonVersion: 3.5.11
Persistent Connectivity Issues & Unnecessary Forced LoginAs a long-time Canon user, I'm genuinely disappointed with the direction of the Camera Connect app. While remote shooting itself tends to work, the essential task of wireless image transfer remains notoriously difficult. For years, the connection between my camera and phone has been unreliable, constantly dropping or requiring multi-step resets (clearing network profiles on both devices) just to pull images—this should be seamless in a modern ecosystem.
This persistent functional frustration is now coupled with a concerning policy change: users are forced to create and log in with a Canon ID just to access core features like local image transfer and remote control. These are features that operate entirely offline, yet the mandatory online login renders the app unusable in remote areas or when the connection inevitably drops. This decision feels unnecessary and severely restricts the app’s utility when I need it most.
Compounding this, the app requires full, unrestricted access to my entire photo library on my phone. Other apps manage to save imported images with limited access; demanding full access raises serious privacy questions and feels unwarranted for simple file transfer functionality.
Canon, these decisions are actively degrading the user experience instead of enhancing it. We invest heavily in your hardware and expect a reliable, convenient companion app. I sincerely hope these policy changes and connectivity issues are addressed, as I am seriously considering changing platforms for my future gear purchases if the user experience continues to worsen..Your opinionated curmudgeonVersion: 3.5.11
Camera/phone won't stay connectedI have the camera in my lap and the phone in my hands so distance between devices can't be the problem. It seems to me that the camera is going into sleep mode while the LCD screen is black (which is what the camera does when you connect it to the phone) and then after a short period of time it just disconnects again and I have to reconnect it many many many times, which I'm already going to have to edit and send these photos, which I'm sure you're familiar takes a lot of time. Stopping to reconnect the camera to the phone through the archaic camera WiFi control center that takes something that should be easy and turns into a proooocessss, and at the end of the day eats valuable time! There's also the chance that I'm just an idiot and maybe there's an automatic-battery saving - shut off timer that can be extended or delayed and I might just have it on the default setting which by the looks of is very fast to save on battery... just my best guess. I put 1 star so this could get some attention and I could possibly get some help to make this problem go away. I'm always willing to change the review upon actual rectification of this problem or at least an reasonable explanation that can give me some insight....Zackary bigweinerVersion: 3.5.11
Fails to meet basic needs of professional photographersI was hoping to use this app to turn an iPad into a dedicated high-res viewfinder to inspect shots immediately after shooting them, to verify focus, and check for any little details, which often go unnoticed on the small screen on the back of the camera. Unfortunately, this app fails to meet this need in a most frustrating and ridiculous way… Of course, the live view image is significantly reduced in size. This is expected. What surprises me is that after taking the shot, the app insists on displaying a low resolution version of the image and sticking it in this tiny window that cannot be expanded,. And when I click to download the full resolution image, it doesn’t display it! Instead, it offers to open it in another app, or download it to my iPhone Photos. And if I do that, it bounces me away from the Camera Connect app, and when I switch back to the Camera Connect app, it has disconnected from my camera! And so I must renegotiate the camera connection after viewing the full resolution image in another app. This is totally unworkable. This app assumes that I am some kind of social media influencer, not a professional photographer doing critical work. Very unfortunate. I’ll have to stick with desktop based solutions..TrisastranusVersion: 3.1.10
App Stopped Connecting to CameraI had used this app successfully for years and thoroughly enjoyed how simple it was to transfer images from my Canon PowerShot G9X Mark II to my iPhone 11 (now running iOS 17.5.1).
Starting, I believe sometime in 2023, the app just abruptly stopped connecting via WiFi, and based on the forums it looks like this issue is pretty widespread. The Bluetooth functions like remote shooting still work fine, so this just appears to be a WiFi connection issue. Perhaps it’s a compatibility issue with iOS operating systems more recent than 17.4, since 17.4 is the compatibility listed in the app summary? I can’t get a straight answer, which has been extremely frustrating.
I’ve tinkered with it for hours, scoured the Canon online forums, and nothing seems to work anymore. I’ve tried it all at this point. Having a camera that doesn’t reliably transfer images to a phone really limits the usefulness of the camera, so I suppose it may be time to look for another brand of camera (or for Canon to fix a substantial problem that’s been plaguing its user community for a long time). Wouldn’t recommend the app or Canon cameras until Canon resolves this issue..Scottime!Version: 3.2.0
Inconsistent app for nice camerasI own an R5 mkii, 2 R50s, an R8, and a 250d. Those are all great cameras, so it’s a shame that I have to use this app for my work. Every single time I shoot, the app has to crash at least once before I can actually take and review photos. I’ve talked to other Canon users and it’s a common issue. I press the shutter button on the iPad and instead of showing me that a photo was taken, I am dumped back to the page where I have the option to connect again. I have dealt with this issue for years across five cameras, two iPhones and an iPad. It happens on different WiFi networks the issue is the app itself. Regardless of the connectivity issue I honestly wouldn’t have left this review because I can work around that. I am leaving this review because I have to update my password every time the app updates. Every time the app updates I am signed out, then refuses to accept my password. I just used the exact same password to log into my canon id on my laptop just fine. It’s just the iOS app that refuses to let me log in until I reset my password. Fix this and I’ll update my review..VainPopinjayVersion: 3.4.30
I see the same complaints 10 years agoThis app is a complete waste of time. I was so thrilled to upload my photos wirelessly on vaca as a backup. It is cumbersome to figure out, insisted on uploading to google photos and google wanted access to all of my photos. Figured out how to transfer to my iCloud instead (could not tell you how, but I did it). Takes forever, even on my home wifi that is Fast for everything else. The biggest problem is that it doesn't transfer sequentially, neither by date/time or by img #. There are skips, uploads 10 in a row, skips one, 2 more uploaded, skips 10. Then it numbers them with a (2) that puts it all out of order. This is the same complaint from a review from 10 years ago. Why, canon, why? Fix this thing, or don't offer it. I have 3000 photos from a long vacation with intermittent missing photos. I have spent a week trying to figure out which pix are missing. I'm giving up and buying an sd card reader. The positive reviews must be from canon employees. Cannot fully express my disappointment in this app. (Love my Eos R 10, but maybe I should have bought a nikon).DisneyloverandmomVersion: 3.2.11
Super disappointedI bought an EOS R7 and was excited to see that it has Bluetooth and that i can import photos without cables.
Sounds great on paper but i could not get it to work. This app is required to connect to the camera (fine). The camera has settings for Bluetooth and WiFi. As far as i can tell, both need to be enabled to connect a phone to the camera. First you pair the app and camera via Bluetooth. Then when you try to import photos, it requires both the phone and camera to hop over to WiFi. The camera acts as a hotspot and the phone joins it. Seems straight forward but it doesn’t work well at all. I have messed with this for an hour, and even with both devices talking over Bluetooth and WiFi, the app says the devices aren’t talking.
Why couldn’t the devs just use Bluetooth? Why bother with WiFi?
Maybe some of the remote control functions work. I don’t know because i haven’t tried. But the photo import between the app and iPhone / IOS 26.1 don’t. I have to go back to plugging a cable into the PC..GreenSojuVersion: 3.5.11
Something else from Canon that stops workingCanon’s response: “Just buy a new canon camera, it should probably work then.” I’ve been trying to connect canon cameras to my phone since the EOS M, and always there’s a problem. It’s faster to drive home, transfer photos to your computer, then email them to your phone, than to wait for the app to connect to your phone, EVEN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PAIRED IT AND THE CAMERA IS LISTED IN THE APP!! If, by chance, you do get this app to work, do not update the app, because it 100% will not connect to your camera again. Can we go back to EyeFi SD cards? Other camera companies go way out of their way to make this process really easy, but not canon. Help within the app is useless and online help just quotes FAQs and does address problem. Conclusion: If the app connects to your camera, don’t change anything. If it doesn’t, you’re out of luck.
Gets worse with every update. Just buy a non-Canon camera if you want to easily put the photos from your camera to your phone..Dr john questVersion: 3.4.10
This app is almost uselessI cannot understand why this app has so many glitches! Every other time I try to connect to my camera it has issues. Either the wifi won’t connect, or the camera won’t connect, or name a new reason. I never had this many issues with the Nikon app and cameras! You would think that Canon would be equal to or better than that. It’s frustrating, it’s time consuming to have to call and get technical help every time, and it’s unacceptable at this level. Fix your app and make them compatible with ALL your products! I have enough issues with my crappy EOS Rebel T7, the least you could do is make transferring photos easy!
Update: with the strength of a thousand suns. I hate this app with the freaking strength of a thousand suns. I reinstalled the app, and now it’s not even let me register my camera (that I’ve already had to register twice because of the issues). I cannot with this. I literally cannot..Cassy12164865424578Version: 3.2.30
Always DisconnectsMy opinion about the Canon App is negative. Whenever the Canon app is used and a call, message, or email is received, clicking on it and returning to the app leads to disconnection from the camera. Reconnection is required afterwards, which consumes a lot of time. I hope there can be a way for Cannon to fix this problem. There are plenty of other apps and Bluetooth Wi-Fi products that don't disconnect when a call or message comes through, allowing you to stay connected. They should find a way to reconnect without going through all the camera options manually. Nonetheless, I appreciate this app as a wildlife photographer because it allows me to take pictures without disturbing the subject by setting up the camera and stepping away. However, when a call or notification appears, I have to physically go back to the camera to reconnect. Canon, please devise a solution..OneofgodsgiftsVersion: 3.1.10
Mediocre app continues to get worseThis app continues to underwhelm with its shortcomings. These primarily are related to the regular failures to connect to with cameras. This has been observed across multiple iOS devices running the app and multiple cameras. It works, at best, 50% of the time. Once connected it is often unstable and will randomly disconnect requiring downloading to start over from the beginning. These connectivity issues seem to get mildly worse with each iteration of the app. Now Canon requires an account to be created in order to use the app to download pictures from a camera. If I were starting over I would probably go Nikon or Sony just because this app is so infuriating to use and being able to quickly download pictures is important to me. It has single-handedly turned me against recommending the Canon brand. Even GoPro has a better app..Canon Semi-ProVersion: 3.4.0
Camera never connects to appI absolutely love having the ability to take photos from my camera and putting them on my phone, especially since my computer has stopped working. However, I usually have to spend around an hour at a time just to get the camera to connect to the app just so I can download the photos. It shouldn’t be that hard. My headphones have never had an issue connecting automatically, my soundbar on my tv, any other Bluetooth speakers, I’ve never had an issue using AirPlay to my tv, etc etc. I have two different canon cameras, and BOTH cameras take ages of turning it off, turning it on, changing the settings, etc etc etc over and over and over and over again, for close to an hour each time I try, just to get it to connect to the app. Something needs improved..Caasi.NosnahVersion: 3.2.30
Disappointed at the momentOkay so I’ve had a power shot SX530HS for many years and I’ve never once gotten it to connect to WiFi or my phone. I follow all the instructions exactly and it never works. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong, and I have no idea who to turn too. Maybe I’ll have to ask reddit. This isn’t very user friendly, and I’ve grown up using technology so I really shouldn’t be this confused. But what’s the point in me having a camera if I can’t ever upload the pictures anywhere? I’m so mad and there’s nothing I can do about it. There’s nobody to help you on this app, just some vague instructions that apparently don’t even help. Some customer service support would be appreciated because I really wanna use this expensive camera. It doesn’t deserve to just collect dust. I’m in rage mode to be honest.Sumukhidevi108Version: 3.2.0
Canon bought reviews.First off: the app is terrible. Constantly disconnects, struggles to reconnect. It’s gotten to the point where no matter what I do, I can’t even connect my camera (an EOS90D) anymore. The camera itself won’t even let me use the bluetooth function, even after resetting the settings. Any time I manage to get the wifi connected, the app spends 30 seconds trying to connect and then gives up. Stays connected to the camera’s wifi, but the app says it isn’t connected.
TERRIBLE APP.
Second: Canon 100% bought reviews. When I first downloaded this app a few years ago, it had only a handful of reviews - as in a few dozen - and less than 3 stars. You’re telling me that in less than three years, the app got more than 100k reviews? And that the average review for a terrible app jumped from a poor rating to an excellent rating? Great app ruined by greedThis is an indispensable app for anyone with a Canon camera that can connect wirelessly with their mobile device. The problem is Canon knows this & thus now (they didn’t used to do this) forces users to have a Canon account & users must login into this app in order to use it. The only possible reason Canon could have for this is data harvesting &, by default, they collect lots of it. You can opt out of that, but that doesn’t stop the need for having an account & having to be logged into an in order to use the app. If you happen to be out in the middle of nowhere where there is no cellular service and you want to download an image off of your $4000 Canon camera you’re screwed. Canon couldn’t care less when I raised the issue. Canon needs to stick the cameras & not data harvesting with their app. It’s indefensible..BSB-TubaVersion: 3.4.10
Worst App EverThis app is terrible. It does not allow me to easily transfer the pictures from my camera to my phone (and it does not let me transfer my videos at all). I have transferred images from my camera several times, but its always an hours long process. I have at least 1000 pictures on my camera that will not transfer to my phone. I work extensively with technology every day, and this app is impossible to use, as it never works like its supposed to. Every time my phone is connected to my cameras wifi (it will show up that its connected to my cameras wifi in the app), the app acts as if its not connected. Please fix this. I have deleted the app and redownloaded it, I have tried different ways to connect my phone to my camera, and nothing seems to be a permanent solution to the app not working properly..Party NoriVersion: 3.1.20
Connection issuesThis app has terrible connection issues with my R5M2. I have not been able to send pictures to my phone for most of the time that I’ve had this new camera. It does an initial connection and then drops it just as quickly as it established it. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it on my phone. I have deleted my phone from the camera and reestablished a connection. I’ve tried having the camera plugged in. I’ve tried different batteries. I’m also unable to update my camera from this app and have no idea how to do it any other way other than taking it to the local camera store.

WorthlessI don’t normally write reviews because it’s not worth the time but I made it a special occasion for this app. This is the most worthless app I have ever had and what makes it disappointing is that it is supposed to connect to equipment that cost thousands of dollars that I can’t just get rid of and replace with a company that has an app that actually works so that I can transfer photos to my phone or tablet. The amount of time wasted trying to make this app work when it should take seconds, then to have it not work before you can even download a single photo is ridiculous. It’s an absolute joke and I’m seriously thinking about selling every Canon product I have, take the loss, and invest in a company that can make a simple file sharing app that can actually connect to their expensive equipment..FailUpon!Version: 3.2.30
Latest app update makes this useless. Login and full photo access should be unnecessary.Using this app used to be seamless. This camera was purchased with the intent of being able to connect to my phone and instantly transfer pictures. With this latest update, there’s a bug in the app that somehow requires Full read and write photo access on my phone. This is not necessary, as Apple iOS allows photos to be written to the phone without full read access. PLEASE correct this. Full photo access is not required, and your device team should know this, as it used to work before these latest updates. This data grab attempt doesn’t go unnoticed, and is factored into future camera purchase decisions. This sort of thing is the poster child of how to lose business..Anne OnimousVersion: 3.4.10
Worthless. Glitchy. Terrible. On a recent trip, I didn’t have access to my usual set up, so I didn’t have an SD card reader. I tried using the canon connect app, and was frustrated at every turn. It constantly lost connection to my camera, if – heaven forbid – I would dare to switch between connecting to my laptop or my phone, I would have to completely delete a registered device because it wouldn’t reconnect to it again. I remember using this app in the past with great success, so I am not sure what changed. It’s done a complete 180 in quality. Also, I have to agree with some of the other reviews on here: why do it need access to my entire photo library? I just want to get the photos off the camera. You don’t need access my entire photo library.
Incredibly disappointed. Do better, Canon..Chef.jessVersion: 3.2.0
Now requires sign in before transfer from camera to mobile device-- sign in doesn't work!!Canon is my preferred equipment, I use mirrorless cameras, prime lenses and 100 to 400. This app has always worked flawlessly until now-- when they require sign on into their website during the connection from the camera to the mobile device! Just discovered this today-- while on assignment !! Aargh!! While I can sign in from any other WiFi-- the session that the app opens-- while connected to the camera-- won't fully open because it times out before there is any opportunity to enter the user ID and PW. Whomever at Canon thought requiring sign on before allowing photo transfer from the camera to a mobile device was a good idea-- didn't test it out in the field. This is absolute $&?!# !!.Guest365Version: 3.4.1
Unable to get past app launch cloud slidesI’ve used various iterations of this app with both Powershot and my EOS cameras for nearly a decade. Today a took a couple of pictures which I immediately needed to get to my iphone to send someone. Guess what, someone at Canon wants to require a login to their cloud now, and an error message appears for both choices (sign in, and create account). There is no way out of this. All i want to do is tap the connect button, launch the app, browse my captured images, select, download to iphone and send. I guess marketing has decided that’s too easy and want to gather “metrics” ignoring the legacy users. Any suggestions for other apps to do this is urged, besides intimidating Canon engineers to provide a “settings” choice from the iphone app launch page. Shame..EndoftapeVersion: 3.4.30
Unstable connection and slowI primarily use the app to sync geo location, date, time, and attempted photo transfers.
Let’s start with geolocation, date, and time. These functions are simple and should happen automatically in the background. If my camera is on, and you have the app, this should be automatic; but to sync these, not only do you need the app open, but requires you to connect via WiFi, which means you are no longer connected to your primary WiFi on your iPhone. This is a simple Bluetooth function and should happen in the background for any connected canon camera through an ‘always on’ connected option, just like any Bluetooth headphone.
On to photo transfers… if you’re able to actually get your phone connected to your camera, the photo transfers are incredibly slow… as in a single 20MB photo takes 5minutes to transfer from the camera to the iPhone (over WiFi!). I’ve tested this on iPhone 15, iPhone 16, and with Canon R6, R6II, R5, and R5II. It’s so slow, it’s virtually useless.
If DJI and other camera makers can figure this out and make it seamlessly connect and quickly transfer data, I don’t understand why Canon can’t do the same!.SS001Version: 3.4.1
Canon Camera (Doesn’t) ConnectThis is an official position to rename this sorry excuse of an app. 1/2 the time it does not connect. The other 1/2, it doesn’t stay connected. And 90% of that time it doesn’t stay connected for mor than 15 minutes, you’ll get 10 mins if you’re lucky… This is the saddest excuse for a fast/ easy transfer app that I have ever used…. And unfortunately I have been using it (well, trying to) for going on 10 years. Why, for a leading, premium tech company, that’s world renowned for their camera equipment, do they have the worst connection app on the market… It’s almost as if they started developing the app in 2003… and just quit… It’s like they haven’t updated, refurbed, or scanned for bugs in 20 years… This is sad, embarrassing, and disappointing. Canon, do better..GottagetchemallVersion: 3.4.1
Disgusting TrendI’ve used this app, first of all to varying degrees of success, but know we have to sign up for an account??
No. I’ve been away from the photography/filmography game for some time yes but this is absolutely ridiculous. This isn’t about “increasing the user experience”. This is about creating a future paywall. It’s happened time and time again. Why make an account?
What if I have no signal where I am, and I need access to my shots now?
Will delete this app immediately and will maintain a PHYSICAL means of transferring and viewing data on the go without the need to connect to an app and make an account. Everything needs an account nowadays and this is a stupid trend. We’re not free anymore, to do our own things. I can’t. Canon, you’ve lost another one..LupusAtraSicariVersion: 3.4.10
Canon appApp worked Tuesday I was able to login and everything and get my pictures. Im not sure how to fix this problem. There is no other way to get my photos than on this app. This needs to be fixed asap. App says “minor bug fixes” that was 3 days ago it needs to be fixed now. This is what it keeps saying everything I try to login in now. “ 403 ERROR The request could not be satisfied. Request blocked. We can't connect to the server for this app or website at this time. There might be too much traffic or a configuration error. Try again later, or contact the app or website owner. If you provide content to customers through CloudFront, you can find steps to troubleshoot and help prevent this error by reviewing the CloudFront documentation.”.Riley hudecekVersion: 3.4.1
Never worksThis app pretty much works if you’re lucky on that specific day. Every single time I have to upload it’s a nightmare. I was luckier when I was the Powershot sx740 hs but after upgrading to the G7X mark iii (which you would think the process would be smoother) it’s the complete opposite. The app shuts down when I finally connect successfully and I’m prompted to do everything after. Continuously having to forget device and add the device time after time. I’ve spent the entire day today trying to transfer photos. I even deleted the app and reinstalled it, I reconnected every way possible. Now I have 342 photos (to be exact) that I’m unable to transfer over to my iPhone. Canon please fix this. It’s extremely time consuming and tedious..DulceMPenaVersion: 3.2.40
This app is horrible. While I’m sure there are plenty of workarounds and alternatives that I simply don’t know about, I find this app nearly unusable and I don’t know of any alternatives to be able to import Raw images from my camera>canon connect>phone>lightroom mobile to be able to edit. So I feel quite stuck with an app that when it actually lets me connect my camera will pull up the transfer image screen only to load a couple preview images then crash then work correctly the second time only very slowly. None of the feautures are remotely user friendly. Just a tedious, glitchy, confusing app that is only good for cryptic error messages that I wouldn’t use if I knew any other way to get my Raw into Lightroom on my phone..JpreemVersion: 3.4.1
WIFI no longer worksI used to love this app and use it all the time and it was amazing! This is a great app if it worked for me. I try to connect it to my camera but no matter what I try it will not work and even if it were to work, this is way too complicated and annoying of a process it should be easier. My EOS R7 canon won’t connect and I turned off all other WiFi so it wouldn’t connect to anything else. My camera connects great to the WiFi but the app does not recognize my camera (and yes it is on the right camera). It used to work great and now it is useless for me. If it works for you then great but this is one small annoying thing that ruins it all.AStrangeAmericanVersion: 3.2.40
Crashes without failThis app is almost completely unusable for transferring photos to my iPhone. Across two different canon cameras they both normally fail to transfer more than 1-2 photos at a time. I’ve had the app for a little over 2 years so it’s not a recent update. The remote shooting feature is basically the only reason I keep the app, and even then it loses connection often. I don’t even have an old iPhone (16 pro) or camera (R5mkII) and this is at portrait distance, maybe 10 feet max. I’d recommend getting a card reader that works with your phone if you need to transfer photos while away from your computer..Tommy G1826Version: 3.5.30
BUY A MONITOR THIS APP IS TRASHThe Canon Camera Connect app is incredibly frustrating to use. Despite following all the setup instructions, it almost never connects to my camera. On the rare occasion it does connect, the connection is unstable and drops as soon as I walk even a short distance away. This makes it nearly impossible to use the app effectively for remote shooting or transferring files.
For an app that’s supposed to enhance the functionality of Canon cameras, it falls far short of expectations. It feels like the app lacks proper optimization, and the Wi-Fi connectivity is simply unreliable. Canon really needs to address these issues to make this app more user-friendly and dependable. Until then, I can’t recommend it..Canon cameraVersion: 3.2.30
Takes over 2min per pic on SX 60Get an SD reader instead.
Until this app updated, it worked very well with my SX60. It is now completely non-functional. I have been unable to upload any videos onto my phone and ONE picture takes over two minutes to upload.
I would have to put my phone out of commission for at least 2 hours just to get 50 photos from my camera onto my phone. This is a new glitch that they have not fixed despite updates. It has been going on for over six months now. I’m not sure why you would want to sabotage your product. I will not be using the app in the future and will look for iOS friendly cameras in the future..PregoodVersion: 3.2.40
TerribleVery inconsistent and buggy connection to the camera. The app also only works in portrait mode. I’ve connected with earlier versions but even these were not smooth connecting. When I have manage to get connected, it is awkard and slow to download images, edit them, and then upload them to my own photo cloud software. From the poor performance of their consumer software, it seems that Canon is aiming to force people to buy the “Professional” version of an image transfer software (CTP) and that requires a subscription. If that’s the case, Canon is making a bad business decision..Amateur Weather JunkieVersion: 3.4.1
Mandatory login. Forget this…I’ve spent a fortune on a variety of Canon cameras and lenses over the years. Now requiring an account to use the camera connect app is somewhere between a joke and insulting. Canon, you’ve already got my money. How about you encourage me to keep buying your products in the future instead of crippling what I have already paid for and chasing me away? I’m tired of the continuing invasions of privacy with companies doing stuff like this. The old app was clunky, but wasn’t invasive and it allowed you to transfer pictures to your mobile device once you figured out its quirks. The new one is hard pass. I’ll just do it the old fashioned way..HillCountryEngineerVersion: 3.4.10
Totally frustrating app!I just don’t understand how a company that makes such good cameras and lenses like Canon can make such a completely frustrating and the end of the day a totally garbage app that sometimes works, but most of the time completely fails. The Bluetooth connections fail. The download process is horribly slow, and the biggest problem is the phone and the camera just usually never see each other even though they’re both shown on each individual device. I thought this was going to be a great game changer for getting images on the fly at events, but this is simply not the case. Please Canon get your act together..BillyWardyVersion: 3.4.10
They ruined the app. Now super privacy invasiveI used to love my Canon R5. I use the app strictly to add GPS information to the photos. But now Canon has added a mandatory login process to the app and totally ruined it. Besides the privacy invasion that comes from making GPS profiles personally identifiable (!!!), the app keeps logging you out and stops working until you log back in. So now my work as a photographer is handicapped because Canon wants to collect my data and at the worst moments in my workflow my camera stops recording location data so that Canon can monetize my privacy? That’s a bridge too far. If Canon doesn’t get it or doesn’t want my business any longer, Fuji here I come..MsofVersion: 3.4.1
What happened?I have used this app for years without a problem. Then they updated it. A canon ID is now required to use the app. I tried to sign in, it wouldn’t accept my ID. I tried to create a new ID, it wouldn’t accept it. Now it has locked me out. It says to contact support. So far, I haven’t found app support, only users complaining of the same kind of problems. It makes me regret buying Canon products, of which I have many all the way back to an AE1. What happened?
It is now a year later and tried it again hoping it was better. The app still will not allow me in, will not allow a new ID to be created. Still absolute garbage..StupidideanicknameVersion: 3.5.11
Tipping Point ReachedI find it disappointing that I need an account to have my camera access the app. So I decided not to create an account based on privacy concerns and the fact that I already have so many accounts and passwords to other things and don’t need another one. Not a loss to me but feel bad for people who are dependent on such an app for their business. Will check-in with the Canon Connect app in the future to see if they moved away from the mandatory account but not holding my breath. Until then, probably in my best interest to look for another camera brand that wants to sell a product and not strive to collect my information..PJ WolfVersion: 3.4.1

Connection nightmareEven following the instructions, it wont connect! Lost half an hour of my precious time!.LeBar0nVersion: 3.1.20
Intrusive and ClunkyA recent update has locked functionality behind a number of dark patterns which push the user to consent to their data being taken. A Canon account must be created and exact location data permissions must be enabled to begin with. A wide range of usage statistics are collected and associated with the Canon account unless a lengthy legal dialog is dismissed at setup. A dialog is opened every time a camera connection begins to register the camera to the Canon account without any option to permanently dismiss the message. Connecting to a camera through a wifi router is no longer supported which reduces usability enormously. Connecting to a camera through its own wifi network is unreliable to the point of requiring a lengthy configuration reset every five to ten minutes..Lea.lea.lea.lea.leaVersion: 3.5.11
Camera ConnectDésappointement total ! Opérer une caméra à distance et transférer des photos devrait être plaisant et pratique mais cette App ne cesse de régresser à tel point que je l’ai désinstallée.
