Best scanning and OCR app that exists!I’ve been using FineScannerPRO for a few years now and it just keeps getting better! Scanning is simple with the iPad or iPhone and OCR is very accurate. I’ve been using it to recognize text in both English and Spanish, both of which work great. The new page area recognition features make it easier than ever to scan pages with little or no manual adjustments. Recognized documents can be downloaded in several useful file formats including MS Word, RTF, and plain text. I now do all my scanning and OCR on my iPad instead of my dedicated scanner. It is just so much faster and easier. You can also make a “photocopy” of any document just by printing the result of your scan. I would highly recommend this app!.DjlmxVersion: 6.9.5

A world-class OCR appIn 1988, I purchased one of the first OCR scanners on the market for $12,000. Since that time, I have purchased several OCR desktop applications. But none of these can measure up to the ABBYY FineReader PDF Pro. It is without peer in the OCR scanning market. I can now do better, and more efficiently, on my iPad what any desktop software can do. I highly recommend this product to anyone needing to convert image to text or convert between a variety of formats. You will not be disappointed in the outstanding performance of this app. Earlier I did have a problem with the app, but the support staff resolved it promptly, for which I am grateful.

Indispensable for importing and exporting ocr'd filesI frequently receive scanned PDF's in image format only that I need to markup and comment, which is only fully possible with recognized text. No other PDF scanner app that I have found, despite many having otherwise excellent features, allows you to import PDF files and then export the text recognized files to another app, except for this one. Indispensable for historiansI am a history graduate student who needs to scan documents as quickly as possible in the archives. This app has everything I could ever need to accomplish the mission — auto capture, OCR, automatic cloud sync, and (most importantly!) the stability to scan in massive documents. This app has never crashed on me, not even when I scanned a folder with 400 pages of correspondence into a single PDF file! Also one suggestion.I tried other apps that claim to do the same thing, but this one best suits my needs for scanning books specifically (it made the pages the straightest out of the 3 apps). Whatever algorithm they are using for book scanning is great. I kind of wish the same algorithm was used for single document scanning as well. Needs additional page formatsI use this app almost daily; it is one of my all-time favorites. I just wish it had additional page formats, as I frequently need to scan ledger size (11"x17") and larger architectural plans and the app only has 4 standard sizes from which to choose. Superb Scanning and Seamless FlowIt captures the documents really fast, straightens the edges and fixes color, so documents look like documents, not photos. The flow is really smooth. Picture quality not as good as my ‘camera’ app on iPhoneI use FineScanner a lot and love that it can save to my dropbox and Google drive. But I have noticed a major quality decrease when I take the picture in FineScanner versus when I take it with my regular camera app and then import it. FunctioningThe server is working again, but I’m still upset that prior to purchasing this app there was no indication that the processing would be done on a server instead of on device. Phones are pretty powerful these days and FineReader on the Mac doesn’t need to use a server. It means I have to use a different scanning app when working with sensitive legal documents on the go. Not worth the priceUpdate: after spending $50 on this app, they are still spamming me and trying to now get a subscription fee. This is a terrible app and not worth the money. I purchased this in order to quickly scan several cookbooks that I have. This app has several flaws: -Poor edge detection Once you take photos of the book pages, you must go through and manually pick the edge of the book. This is tedious and other apps do a much better job with much less manual intervention. -Long processing time After the edges of the book are marked, the images must be processed and sent to their servers. This seems odd and unnecessary. It also took a long time to process for just a few dozen pages. -inaccurate OCR Even after all this, it still made many mistakes which are time consuming to correct. Not so fine.Do you want a high quality scan that is also searchable? You are out of luck here. You have to accept a low quality compressed image if you want OCR. ABBYY says this is because of pre-processing. Other companies provide both. I am guessing that the OCR is done on their server which is why it is compressed for transit. This may also be a privacy and compliance issue for some users. ABBYY has not responded to my recent query. Even the OCR is not tops in my testing. Book scanning poorI have had no luck with book scanning which is why I bought it. sending images back to their server takes forever. app should store all images locally. I purchased the pro version and book scanner products for iOS. They discontinued both. They will not upgrade their replacement product for me. Which means I am unsupported. Filters are the lowest quality. If your primary need is OCR then this is a solid choice; however, others may have near OCR quality with much higher scan quality. Unacceptable bugs & lack of basic features given the price pointThe early 2021 reviews of scanner apps all highly recommended FineScanner Pro, as well they should! It’s edge-detection is far better than the many other scanning apps I’ve tried. So I took the plunge and paid the high one-time lifetime price. My intent was to scan several documents, then transfer them to my laptop for full-screen post-processing. I tried to connect to my Dropbox, but it errorred out with the unhelpful message “Try again”. After this failed many times with no informative error messages, I instead linked my Evernote account. Then I tried to send my extant scans to it. I used the handy select-all feature, and was shocked to see that the ONLY bulk operation it allows is Delete. Seriously? I had just scanned over 100 documents, and now I was going to have to transfer them one by one?! And each transfer is a klunky procedure of pressing “Share” then “To a Cloud Service” then “Evernote” then “Large PDF” then “Evernote In-Box” then “Send”. OMG! I should be able to select some defaults in settings and have this be a two step procedure at worst. Also not a bulk operation is performing OCR on a document, so if I needed a Searchable PDF/A then that procedure is all the longer. This just does not scale to large numbers of scanned documents. There is an option to automatically send new scans, but you cannot have OCR performed on those, so you miss out on one of this app’s best advantages over its competition. Sending to Evernote worked fine yesterday, but today this caused the app to freeze up such that I had to force stop it. REALLY?! Freezing up is barely tolerable in free apps, and not ok ever for expensive ones. Working around the Evernote freeze-up, I finally got Dropbox to link, just to discover that I then was not given an option as to where on my Dropbox I wanted sent documents to end up. Ever other app I’ve used that can save to Dropbox allows me to choose the destination folder, so this missing feature is disappointing. At $95.19 Canadian dollars, this is the most expensive app I’ve ever purchased, and for that price, the freezes, bugs, and lack of bulk features are absolutely NOT acceptable..PackPuppy (Canada)Version: 8.0
