I bought this app after purchasing the Gypsy app for Yellowstone and Grand Tetons national parks. I was so impressed by the first app, I knew I needed this one when I went to the Grand Canyon. The app starts in Flagstaff (& other areas leading to GC) so there is a build up about the history of the area as you get to the Grand Canyon. Literally like having a tour guide in your car but at a tiny fraction of the price. The narrator has a pleasant voice and talks enough to be informative but not all the time so you can just enjoy the scenery as well. We went in August when there were no guided tours and limited rangers in the park due to COVID. That made this app all the more essential but I would highly recommend this app even when the park fully reopens. Since it operates on GPS, there’s no need to worry about Wi-Fi coverage. It worked flawlessly, always knowing where we were to tell us what attraction was coming up & some history about it. (Suggestion - I’d like to see a Gypsy app for the Sedona Arizona area. Having information about what you are seeing as you travel makes the experience all the more enjoyable & the Gypsy app does a great job).
Our first trip ever to the Grand Canyon and for the first day we did a two hour Pink Jeep Sunset Tour. I thought it was pretty good... until we did the next day on our own with this APP. OMG! I wish I had done this before spending all the money for the paid tour. We stayed in FlagStaff and played the APP the entire day. My 9 year old LOVED it. Even on our return drive from park, he wanted to keep listening to the stories about the Grand Canyon and associated people. Very informative, not just about the Grand Canyon but also the surrounding area. Excellent recommendations of other things to do and see, and we totally followed through on some of the recommendations. This app and the guided touring was SO good, that it’s availability for other travel destinations could very well influence where we decide to go on a future vacation. Best $7 spent on the vacation with a value that was at least 100-fold. Thank you GyPSy Guide. I cannot stress just how much of a MUST DO your Grand Canyon guide is. Made our first visit perfect and memorable!
Everything about this app went well beyond our expectations. We visited the Grand Canyon from Sedona via Williams today. The audio had our group of 3 adults and 2 children captivated and looking forward to each new clip. My 4 and 7 year old were engaged throughout the drive and asked to turn it back on on the drive back. The content was polished and interesting to all ages, and the narrator was perfect. Our kids didn’t ask for their iPads the entire trip and learned a ton of cool facts! We were so delighted to see the audio content matching up with our surroundings - it almost felt like we had a tour guide with us in our car. I was skeptical, but the app worked without a hiccup throughout our entire trip. The interface is very well done, simple, friendly, and intuitive. After the trip, everyone wanted to know what other tours were available, and we look forward to trying them when we get the chance!
And there will be more- we first used your app when we climbed Haleakala and we just used it again during our visit to the Grand Canyon.. what can I say besides these guides added so much to our visits?! - we have 2 sons ( 10 & 12) and we all got so much out of the perfectly timed / well-researched insights, information, tidbits, and stories. Without gypsy, we would have missed so much along the way and we would not have known the significance of certain places, topography, geography, geology, vistas, etc. seriously, I can’t say enough - if this easy-to-use App is available on your specific trip, you’d be crazy not to use it !!!
This app was great. We weren’t sure if we should do a tour or just drive, then we found this app and decided to drive. We saved about $500 and the app was great. The whole family enjoyed it and we saw so much and at our own pace. I loved how it tracked your location and gave you directions along the way and relevant stops. It was awesome and well worth the mere $6. Highly recommend this. Fun stories too. Even our 10 and 12 year old kids enjoyed it.

Excellent guide but there are a few points that are a few years outdated (the Flintstone roadside attraction is now closed and is a birds of prey attraction). Also, the narration in and out from Williams and Flagstaff are nearly identical. So if you do a side trip to another city you end up hearing the same thing twice. Also, it seems to sometimes not play if the app is in the background even though it says it will. I still highly recommend if you’re the kind of person who reads all the signs next to the exhibits at a museum.
Incredible incredible incredible!!!! We used this app on our drive from Flagstaff to the south rim of the Grand Canyon! The app picked up our location immediately and provided entertainment and info all the way to, during our time in the park, and all the way back from the Grand Canyon! I would love to see them expand to many other trips (including driving Route 66). Hands down the best app I’ve ever purchased!!!!
My family has now used Gypsy Guide for Yellowstone, Tetons, Zion, Bryce, and Grand Canyon. We always enjoy listening to the stories and educational facts that are shared. We have also found some great hidden gems thanks to the app. We always Hate when he signs off and we must drive on without his commentary. (I type as we leave Grand Canyon and head eastbound on Route 66). Route 66 would be an awesome addition to the collection!
This practical, easy to use app delivered on everything is promised. The guide was fun to listen to and provided great stories about the area as well as driving directions. I had no desire to book a “bus-trip” from Sedona to the Grand Canyon and this app made it easy and enjoyable to do the drive ourselves, at our own pace. I will definitely us their other guides for future travel.
My husband and I just visited the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Just by chance we stumbled across this app before we entered the park. It made our day trip worth so much more. We loved learning of the special spots to visit and the history was incredible. Thank you so much. We look forward to using the application for the Zion next!
I first used this app while in Maui. It’s like having a very well traveled friend in the car with you. This time I was at the Grand Canyon. It works perfectly with or without cell service. It would be great if there was one for every National Park. Look forward to using it any chance I get. I wish all apps worked this well. Thanks again for a great guide on my trip.
Our narrator-who we named Bob-did fantastic job of entertaining us on an otherwise uneventful drive from Flagstaff to the park and back. The drive through the park itself was like having a forest ranger in the back seat announcing points of interest and history that would have otherwise been missed. Highly recommend!
I am so grateful that I read online about the Gypsy Guide App! It was a lifesaver!!! Our trip to the Grand Canyon would not have been as amazing without using the app. We easily found stops that we would’ve never known about. Loved hearing all of the history and stories from the past. Absolutely 100% recommend this app!
My husband and I had one day to ‘do’ the Grand Canyon. We toyed with the idea of doing a bus tour from Phoenix at $175 each. So glad we did this app. We were able to go at our own pace and do what we wanted not a prescribed tour. The narrative was fun and informative and even helped with directions. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
We got this app for the Tetons & Yellowstone a few years ago and have been raving about it ever since. We only had one day to do the GC (I know, such a pity) and we had no idea how to approach. This app helped guide us along and kept our drive from Flagstaff to GC interesting. We named our tour guide Fred and he’s our new best friend ;)
Our family really enjoyed this guide. It was informative, taught us so much that we would have never have known. We had visited this area before without Gypsy guide and feel we missed so much . This gps guide was right on target so you never missed a turn or an opportunity to explore. Great job!!!!
We had gotten another Gypsy Guide in Hawaii and we loved it so we decided to get another ine for our next trip to the Grand Canyon. Just like expected, it was extremely helpful on telling us everything about every possible stop! Completely recommend it!
We have used Gypsy Guide in Yellowstone, Grand Titans, and now Grand Canyon. Our daughters love hearing and learning from the narrator and have lovingly nicknamed him “granddad”! They are sad each time he says goodbye. We will absolutely use this again on other trips and will tell others about it too. Thanks for the perfect travel guide every time!!
I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am that I downloaded this app the night before my trip. It amplified one of the greatest experiences I’ve had in Arizona from Flagstaff all the way to the Grand Canyon I’m now looking for other tours so I can download those apps as well… Michael
Your own personal tour guide with lots of extra information about things you’re seeing. Really worth having and because we liked it so much, we used the app for other parks we are visiting in our 2 week “out west” vacay. Kids liked it too!
Extremely helpful to first time visitors to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon! It helped us get familiar with surroundings more quickly, be more prepared for waits, find parking, and nice tips for what to see before we left. Great history on the hour long drives to and from the Canyon, too. Thanks!
Just used the Grand Canyon guide yesterday, and LOVED it! We have previously used the Arches and Canyonlands National Parks guides, and found all of them FANTASTIC! We stayed at an RV Park in Flagstaff, and loved how the tour started and ended right in town! It’s like having our own tour guide sitting in the back seat! Besides the tips on where to stop, and what to look at, we really enjoyed the geology and history stories included in the narration. We’re on the road full time (2 years now), so will be sure to use GyPSy guides again in the future! Five stars!! 👍
A great value and loads of perfectly timed guidance, options and details that you would never figure out on your own. Bonus stories along the more highway speed driven areas. We loved it!
We thoroughly enjoyed the stories and suggested stops both in and around the Canyon. We were able to take in a lot more history and understanding than we would on our own! Well worth the six dollars!
We loved this app. We were able to see everything in the park we wanted to see without consulting maps or paying for an expensive tour. I highly recommend it!
No need to book a tour company and spend hundreds of dollars when this app does just as good of job, if not better. Take it from a guy who has done both.
Our family found this incredibly helpful and informative. Would absolutely recommend!
Awesome tour! Starts at Flagstaff and will guide you around the park at your own pace. Don’t get stuck on a tour with the “too many questions” or the “know it all” person. Use this app instead.
Nice tour , actually told us to look out for Elk at one point and I’ll be if there wasn’t one outside our window, timing was spot on entire tour, voice was lively, corny jokes but non the less lively, map wasn’t the best in that I had to manually zoom or it would have been 5 stars
My only suggestion is that we have a way to go back and hit dots we missed. We joined late and would have liked to get the commentary we missed. Very interesting!
It just simply worked. So impressed with this app that we dove both versions. The Flagstaff starting point and the Williams starting point. Well done!
Enjoyed the app and all the info and stories. I only gave it a 4 instead of 5 because I lost phone service and it seemed to affect the app I kept having to restart it.
This app made touring the Grand Canyon on our own extremely easy! Loved the suggestions as well as the historical stories! Highly recommend!
This was by far the best money we ever spent on a tour. There are excellent descriptions of the sites and good directions for arrival and leaving each of the areas. Highly recommended.
Having this guid was an amazing addition to our trip -both for navigation as well as the facts provided!!
We’ve used Gypsy Guide in Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon’s South Rim. The Grand Canyon was by far the best as the narration continues past the main loops and out of the park with stories of major characters in the exploration of the west.
Great navigation, interesting tidbits of information that enhanced the Grand Canyon experience. Very user friendly. Named our guide Henry😉
Love the app. We used it in Maui and now the Grand Canyon !!!!! Need more tours, maybe one for Sedona?? Sell it as a Flagstaff bundle?
Love listening to all the stories, his wit, and jokes! The best way to travel!
Zooming in on map not working as expected, would love some CarPlay compatibility. 4/5
We discovered the GyPSy guides a few trips back and have enjoyed ALL of them. It is very relaxing to listen to facts and directions while driving rather than having to constantly pull off and figure out where to go next. Also great are the recommendations on where to stop and which stops are not quite as exciting. App works great without having to use any cell data (especially great for visitors) and, depending on your cell carrier, there may not be service.
