My Experience With Hipstamatic XNow a Lifetime member of the Hipstamatic Makers Club, I installed "X" the day after it was released, signed up for the 7-day free trial. Wanting to experience the app on its own merits, I uninstalled "Classic", then I put "X" to test. After several days, I reinstalled "Classic" and all the HipstaPaks (literally, ALL) I had previously purchased. "X" connected to those purchases and made them available within the app through the Classic Gear button on the Camera Shelf. Once the free trial ended, I still retained my "Classic" gear. Things I like: (1) the developers are extremely responsive and helpful throughout; (2) Hipstamatic X is strictly a shooter (you CAN edit photos shot within the app); (3) a good UI; (4) quality photos; (5) simple to use. Plus, I can still use "Classic" on its own too. I'm trusting this app will have good support and quality updates..PhatFunkJazzVersion: 1.2

Only thing missing is letting us use our own presets?I know there is this idea that we will just take photos with this app, but when you let me import a photo I like that I shot with Camera+ or something, and allow me to apply *your* camera presets to the photo, but don't let *me* apply the camera preset that *I* defined myself, I think I must be missing something. Either remove this edit feature entirely and demand we only take photos with our/your camera presets, or just finish the job and let me import something I composed and exposed in another camera application so I can apply my sweet framed tinto 1:1 preset so I can have some continuity in collections of images I share. 🤷🏻‍♂️ p.s. I'm paying the membership, but I don't think I will for much longer. I'd rather make my own preset in Lr or something like Snapseed. Longtime fan & userI love Hipstamatic X, and I loved Hipstamatic before it. As someone who made his bones in the analog camera days, the dirtiness and artifacts that we can bring to the image are fantastic. I've made lens and filter and paper combinations that remind me of papers and processes I used to use, and I will label custom combos to reflect it. I could go on and on. This is one of the photos/photo editing apps that has lasted at least 10 years in my toolbox, unlike many other photo apps which showed their limitations to me much sooner and were cut from rotation. I have *one request* though for the makers. It's the only request I've thought to make and all these years of using their apps. Sometimes I just want to save a photo, after filters have been applied etc., but it's like *five clicks* to simply save it to my camera roll. That's way too many. Is it possible, once we finish editing a photo, to get an option to simply save it directly to our camera roll? To save it and bypass the "next" and "share online" and so on? Really, go through the process and take a look at how many clicks it takes just to save a photo to the camera roll. Oof. Now imagine editing five photos and wanting to save them to the camera roll. Hipstamatic X Good start!!!I’ve been a fan of the classic since day 1 and have bought just about every lens and film combos that has ever come out. I wish this camera would fill my whole screen like the classic does on my IPhone XS Max but it’s not a deal breaker. This app has promise and that’s why it was a no brainer to purchase the lifetime membership when I did. I need to spend more time with to understand it better. One thing I noticed is that if I’m looking at images on the classic app it doesn’t recognize what what Len and film combo was used. I also can’t see what was used when I use the random camera on this app which is my favorite feature because I could save it to a camera I like. So much fun and great supportI’ve tried many different photo editors, filter apps, and camera apps on iOS, but nothing compares to Hipstamatic for the sheer number of options. I like being able to customize the look and play around with different options. Maybe it’s because I’m a tinkerer at heart. Even if you’re not, it’s easy to find creative looks and save them to reuse later. I just keep coming back to try different things. Their support is also worth mentioning. I had a couple of questions that they quickly answered. (One turned out to be an App Store issue, but they didn’t just brush me off.) So glad to see this make a comebackI haven’t used Hipstamatic since 2012 or so, but I’m enjoying this new version a lot. Feels like a return to the early days of social media, when things were more casual and… calming. Absolutely love the passport and the stamps—I hope they keep adding more for various locations, national parks, etc. to encourage getting out more. I’m also enjoying all the various combinations of lenses and films, it’s just a lot of fun to experiment with. UpdateI love the new update I love being able to share and connect with other photographers. But the limitation to only square photos is a little frustrating especially because in the app I have multiple different training options I would like to be able to share 16 x 9 or 4:3 and so on. Just bought Life Time MembershipJust got the new app. Looks pretty good, fairly streamlined. Is there a way to edit the photo without using a predetermined look that the app suggests? Also, I am not noticing the ability to take double exposure pics. That was/is my favorite part of the original Hipstamatic app. That was originally something I purchased, will that feature be available in this new app ( or is it already there and I don’t know where to find it?). My favorite camera app.I love this app, the original, bought all the films, and now am a lifetime member of Hipstamatic X. My all time favorite camera app ever is the classic for when I have a non-moving scene, however Hipstamatic X is great for when you need to just tap the camera, point, then click. Both apps are equally beautiful in design and simplified for even someone of my experience to use. Great app, better service!The app is fun to use and inspires me to play around with my camera. Have been with Hipstamatic and Öggl for years. Whenever I have a question or problem, I get fast and friendly response. As to the app itself, it’s an adjustment from earlier apps because choosing and shooting are a bit more organized. Now that I see what is going on…The “classic” version (which I love) is now the other simpler app released some time ago. I love the 16:9 option on the original version. I use a screensaver on my AppleTV utilizing family pictures. 16:9 pictures for this is a must. This “new” version is different in many ways. The social media portion, I probably won’t use. But it's pretty cool to keep your own stack of photos and have a tiny profile that holds everything. It's like a storage box of all your stuff. Super fun appI’ve used the original Hipstamatic for years, and this is such a fun new take. From the tutorial to customizing cameras on the shelf, the full experience of using the app is delightful! I have been running into issues where most films that have frames (as noted in the catalog) don’t show one after processing. Love It - But Crashes So Much!I’ve been using the Hipstamatic apps for years, and I’m a paid subscriber. This is normally a five-star app but ever since I started using this with the new iPhone 13 Pro Max, it crashes all the time. All…the…time. I blew my 170 day streak last week because the app wouldn’t let me take a picture. There are probably children here, so I won’t swear, but I was livid. Still upset. The app hasn’t been updated in four months. I’ve had my phone for two months. This means that Hipstamatic X hasn’t been updated for the latest iOS or the latest phones. Super annoying. Super crashy. Flawed but incredibleOver beg using this app since 2012 and it's been a constant in my photography arsenal. You really do have to familiarize with the different types of film, lens and flash to get the best experience so you're not guessing or getting results you wanted. Great app but new update is trashUsed Hipstamatic since it came out. Love the app, I’ve spent so much money on film packs. The new update adds a social passport, which is cool! But it’s buggy. Edit a photo, tell it to post, asks you to create a profile even if you’ve already made one, restart the app, it freezes and never posts. Nearly perfect!I’ve been a Hipstamatic user since the beginning, and I adore this new version. It really brings back the simplicity and surprise. My only complaint is the annoying marketing text inserted when sharing photos via Messages. I share a lot of photos via Messages, which means I waste a lot of time selecting and deleting that text every single time. My friends already know I use and love Hipstamatic, so I have no need to send them cheesy ads. Only other small quibble is that the Get Help feature has been broken since day 1. Sticking my neck outOk, some folks may feel I’m a fool but I’m going to say it anyways: I’m really enjoying this interface for actually finding good combinations. With the Hipstamatic Classic, although much more robust in a granular sense for editing photos (editing as in proper editing: brightness, blackooint, contrast etc and cropping), I did find it super slow and cumbersome to search through my lenses and films and find good combos. This X UI has a much quicker method of selecting gear and is easier to see the film and lens effect as you go. Using the gear selection screens or the catalog (surprisingly helpful and fast, the way I primarily search and select items) was much faster and less painful “editing” than classic. Overall it’s Hipstamatic and all it’s gear, simplified and enjoyable UI for more “in the moment” photo taking. All my gear transferred over no problem and I also bit the bullet and got the opening week lifetime subscription as I want to support their hard work (buggy and messy at times throughout their app history lol) and also I only had about half their entire gear library and wanted it all now and going forward. One thought: club members should be able to unlock the granular editing if desired and if not then backward compatibility of gear from X to classic would be appreciated. I’d love to be able to edit my Mirrorless SLR high resolution photos with Hipstamatic gear..MRfungVersion: 1.2

So much better!!!Latest big release fixed all of my crashing problems. The app is now 100% useable and 1000% stable. I am in love with hipstamatic all over again. Missing features from the original hipstamaticI took advantage of the lifetime membership being a hipstamatic user since it came to be. It was my go to camera. One thing missing from this new and improved is the ability to do double exposures. The original hipstamatic has the slider on the top left of the camera back that you could use to take a double exposure. I like the idea of this app but DANG!Why can’t I take a photo without it crashing EVERY TIME? Why with the update today, March 22, 2023, am I unable to get past the login? To be clear, the page that is stuck is the “Let’s get your profile set up”. My info is already populated. After that, the app hangs… REALLY?!??? This should be easy by now. Get it together folks. March 23, still crashes at “let’s get your profile setup”…March 23. 17:05 Hangs at “let’s get your profile setup”…UPDATE March 24 Previously installed app still crashes when getting to. Let’s get you profile setup” on iPhone. Was able to get a profile set up on an iPad that had only been used once to take ONE photo. Many of the stickers in my passport are missing. TerribleI’ve had Hipstmatic since it debuted years ago and I loved it, but this new app keeps crashing and you can’t log in with old account infi. The new app does not allow you to log in with anything other than your current Apple ID passcode after you download/update it and seeing that I have a brand new phone with a new Apple ID, it’s forcing me to create a new account. Currently, I’m only able to use Hipstamatic on my old phone and I really wish I could use my new one but it’s not allowing me to log in with my existing account. Confused jumble of social garbageI remember when Hipstamatic was my favorite app because it was about taking photos with creative lenses and films. Now it’s just social network garbage on every single tab. I can’t find the lenses or films I used to love (black keys super grain was my favorite). UselessStarted using Hipstamatic since my first iPhone 3. Got lifetime membership but deleted the app because I can’t seem to find any use for it. Hipstamatic original app is better. I should remind myself I should never buy any new apps from Hipstamatic. Their attention span on their apps other than Hipstamatic tends to be short. their previous photo apps don’t work anymore. This app also felt like money down the drain and sadly it doesn’t feel like this one will last either. Many useless features yet not really practical for actual photography. Don’t bother. Seems PointlessI downloaded this because i remembered having the old app years ago and liking it a lot. It was fun you could combine different “flashes”(obviously there wasn’t a real flash, but), different “films”, and then different filters and effects, some of them really different with trippy distortions and mirroring of your image and some of them just simple colour/texture filters. This just seem basically like regular instagram colour filters with a few exceptions that don’t even look that great in my opinion. AND it’s super expensive on too of that, the app maybe be free but when i tried to save an image with a filter it said you have to pay to become a member. There may be cooler effects after the pay wall but from what I saw I was not interested especially for such an expensive one..PipaamVersion: 3.2

Only buy if you’ve never used the Original appI have been using Hipstamatic since iPhone 1. The ease and simplicity of the app since the beginning is the real retro appeal. This new version is only good if you’ve never used the original. Then I am sure the interface and idea are retro as in an 80s style. 10 years ago when Hipstamatic “Classic” came out is was a real 70s style retro camera. I prefer the old ‘Classic’ than this modern take. Nice idea. But when I reach to take a fun photo it will be the Classic app. Not this one..MrwolfzaVersion: 2

I’ll stick to the original..I understand what they were trying to do but the user experience in this new app is very disconnected. I purchased almost every pak in the original and yet it’s hard to find what I have in my camera bag without being bombarded by what’s ‘locked’. It’s hard to see my films, lenses, flashes, or to navigate where they are all located without some searching. As a user that enjoyed the fast editing abilities the original app had by switching lens and film combos and seeing things reflected in real-time, this app is really lacking. Everything was made to be so simple that key features that made Hipstamatic a long time favourite are now hidden. I normally don’t write reviews, but I’m in user experience myself and honestly, this new application is like playing ‘I Spy’. It would help if the onboarding was more descriptive instead of so gimmicky, as it looks cool but is it helpful? Not really. As a hardcore Hipstamatic user, this new app is all about upselling premium membership and it just feels so limited. I don’t know about this version guys. I hope you keep the original alive because its experience and even the interface is by far much better..XoxShellyVersion: 1.1

Hard to be OriginalI really don’t see any point behind the app - because the thrill of using the new hashtag. It’s basic , feels messy , things tucked everywhere - you have to pull down to view menus etc. I like change , but this I feel doesn’t stand at par with the real Hipstamatic.
