Being a pro shooter with a horde of large and DSLR format hand cannons , I enjoy power and versatility , and once you have perfected the art of being invisible and go from a large body and lens to a pocket rocket , friends and family do not stand a chance of not getting future blackmail worthy candids . Sure I have access to top of the line post editing software , but why work when you can play , this app is so handy and does so much without me needing to ask or tell it , it gives me more time to “work a room” and capture the images I want natively without any post lab Voodo . It animates my bursts , neatly makes collages , and the simplicity of naming someone and getting every image they have been in is amazing , and sharing with the “victims” is simple and easy , they get the whole enchilada and pick and choose from my cloud without filling there’s . Being a shooter I know the value of memory and storage and buy appropriately , many of them have off the rack storage of as little as 64 gig . So google has added new tools to my “bag of tricks & treats” . When I am dead nobody is gonna wonder were they loved ? Did they matter ? It’s all in the pictures . My own life has nearly escaped cameras and the images captured are family secrets that I don’t rate access to , for my own family that will not be an issue , I have my “money shots” however my terabytes of “b” roll speak volumes about my dedication to giving them what I never had , and google is helping me do that , flawlessly
I like this app. This app is amazing. And also quite confusing. You see, when my iPhone storage was full ( because I have an iPhone) , it wanted me to delete 324 photos to ‘free up my space’ it said when I “deleted” them I can see them in google photos but just falto free up my space. But when I did that, I could no longer see them. Why? Then It said, “ To free up more space, you can go to your iPhone photos and go to the ‘recently deleted’ album and permanently delete all of those photos.’ When I viewed those photos, most of them were actually my favorite photos that reminded me of those good memories of my friends, family, pets, and places I went to before the pandemic. And I was surprised and confused of why the app would let me do this. So I recovered most photos and deleted the 281 photos. That freed up my space a bit. But, if google photos said to delete 324 photos to free up my space, I can see them anytime I want. But then google photos told me to free up more space was to delete those “deleted” photos on the iPhone photo app. Why??? How will I see them again if they are permanently deleted? Anyways, after recovering most photos, and deleted 281 photos I was still left with this confusion. I still looked over the photos that weren’t deleted and the recovered photos. They brought me back to good memories of last year. Is there anyway you can be more... specific? Or if you can fix this so it won’t happen again? Thank you for reading and hopefully, understanding.
I’ve always been a huge picture person. I love saving memories from special moments and and even everyday life. I’ve had pictures stored in hundreds of files on my computer for years. When I downloaded google photos it automatically took all of those and downloaded them to the cloud. After the download was completed, I received the option to delete all the old photos from my computer, which made my life a lot easier. You can easily find a picture of someone specific you’re looking for and share pictures back and fourth with others using personal links! This app has a ton of great features, if you play around with it you can find a bunch of cool stuff you’re able to do! The one downside is that if you are using your personal gmail, there’s only 15 GB of storage. I have used all of googles apps for as long as I can remember so my storage was way over the 15 mark. I recently purchased 100 GB for $1.99 which I will hopefully not need anymore after I go through all my data linked from my gmail. Another downside is the download quality of images and especially videos. I have it set to upload at original quality so there’s not much else I can do. Just realize if you’re shooting a high quality video shoot it might not actually be able to be downloaded at the same quality. Overall this is the best way to save pictures. I’ve been a google photos user for about 8 years now and I couldn’t be more pleased with this app. I’m a huge supporter of google photos and have got many of my friends hooked on its benefits too!
I used to recommend to EVERYONE to get and use Google Photos because automatically across all devices you can have ALL your photos in one place and you can free up the massive amount of space they take up on said devices. Plus the little Memories and fun little albums and things they make are cute especially when they do it all for you. The only problem is now the storage issue not very long after they started making you pay for storage after 15gb I surpassed 15gb. It would be nice if my email wasn’t also part of what makes up the amount stored. Now I either have to clean house which is why I got this app to begin with space and the work to maintain space somewhere being a burden. Or pay. And I just hate paying for apps and hate paying for stuff that was once free and also hate paying because I’m basically being forced to pay. Separating my emails (the thousands on my account since I’ve had gmail for yrs and yrs) from the allotment of space for my photos I think would be a good alternative to consider. That way it’s 15gb free solely for photos and after that pay. But with everyone and their mother sister aunt cousin and all their third party blah blah blah emailing me 3x a day like come on. I’m seriously considering not even keeping a Gmail any more Because of this space issue but again SOO MUCH WORK. I want big tech to make my life simpler not more complicated and aggravating. But if space or paying isn’t an issue then 100% recommend 😁
I have over 3k pictures on my phone and vry little time to view much less organize them. Often enough I get a Google msg with a catchy title that when opened contains a series, slideshow or collage (etc)of my pictures. It might be of a birthday memory or an occasion that happened a year ago/last week or month ago. It may be entitled smiles of 2018 or best of last week or whatever it is, it’s always perfectly titled, timed, & well put together into a collage or slideshow of my videos or pictures w background music!!!. I literally gasped & smiled the first time I received a notification from Google Photos. Plus, Google’s suggestion of pictures to archive has proven to be right on target of pictures I really don’t want or need! I am so grateful for this organization of pictures & the notifications that gently reminds me to enjoy the work of my numerous snapshots. It’s like a short story in pictures w music & many times it pops up when I REALLY need a break & reminds me of what matters most are loved ones n friends. I can’t rave enough about Google Photos. My only concern is, is my privacy at risk with “whoever” or “however” this beautiful & seamless service is provided? I am not the type of person who takes inappropriate photos that I would be embarrassed for anyone to see but it’s a bit uncomfortable if idk how or who does the fantastic job of grouping my pictures so beautifully! Anyway, Thanks Google. You deserve 5 stars! I pray you’re honest good people! Blessings.

Pretty solid app. Downloaded it because Apple iCloud got full and had less space plus I’m able to use this on any phone unlike Apple photo app I can download google photos on any device and have all my photos no matter if I break a phone or get a new one I’ll always have my pictures. Google photos app also has some really cool features on it. I love that every time you open the app it downloads all new photos you’ve taken sense the last time you opened the app and not only that but it also works in the background if you don’t cancle the app out so you can literally click on the app and go onto Facebook and your photos will still upload. And it also has a feature to where the app asks you if you want to delete the photos on your phone that are in the google photos cloud so you can free up space on your phone which saves so much storage. And not to mention that you have so much space for a ton of photos and videos (and when I say a ton I mean it, bcuz I normally have any where from 1,000 to 5,000 photos on my phones. I’ve had 5 phones over time that are/ were linked with the google photos cloud app so that’s somewhere between 20,000 photos and I still have a lot of space left for 20,000 more. 10/10 stars. My only complain is I Just wished it worked better for offline use
I love this app. There's no doubt Google is doing the right thing when it comes to picture storage but there are some things lacking that I would like to be added. Having the ability to favorite pictures so you can have a folder for all your favorite pictures would be nice. We should also be able to change the layout inside albums instead of just the default view. I have albums that have almost the max amount of pictures in them and it's not the most pleasant experience to scroll through all those pictures in such a close-up view. I would also like to be able to put location information on individual pictures since many of my pics don't have location data on them. This is importance since most of the time I search up pictures by location and not being able to add location data is frustrating. Also opening Google maps to the location when clicking on the location on a picture should be a no brainer. Having a map of all the pictures you've taken around the world would also be a cool addition. Another thing I would love to be able to do is to manually tag faces in pictures. The app could potentially use this to better indicate which faces to find. Googles facial recognition is very good but not flawless and it's frustrating when it doesn't recognize a face and you can't manually tag the person in the picture. Another thing that would be amazing is if the app could recognize and tag people in videos. This would make me so happy since I have many many videos and it's hard to organize all of them.
It was honestly too good to be true when they offered unlimited photo storage. Sadly that came to an end. When it was unlimited storage, I literally made it a point to bring up in conversation to every single one of my friends. Funny enough, nobody believed me when I explained how good it was, and they missed out if they didn’t download it. The longer you put off downloading this app, the more you will miss out on. This app was everything (and more) before any other game company was doing anything remotely similar. And I’m confident everything uploaded won’t be hacked or leaked. If you are a criminal or take photos of yourself commuting a crime, maybe don’t do that, but also I would suggest not using this service just in case. The government can subpoena your Google data and although I haven’t ever seen Google Photos being a turning point for a case, I don’t doubt that the government could make Google give them access to every single photo you’ve every taken. But that’s one end of the double edge sword - the other end is that every single photo you ever take will be automatically uploaded to the servers so you don’t have to do it yourself and so you never have to worry that any of your photos will ever be lost. But, now you have to pay for storage so that is on you for not using this app sooner. I use this app more than the photos app on iPhone.
I’ve always been a Google advocate, and it’s hard-pressed for me to say enough to reinforce that opinion; I can’t begin where I am thankful and comfortable with Google’s technology and software practices, and this app is a shining star of that beautiful, elemental firmament that I was aquatinted with years ago, and that I’ve let my habitual photography reflex tree blossom into the routine miracle plant I let Google inhabit me with. I wouldn’t be the reference guide to my past, including the referential wisdom and instantly resourceful portfolio of my art experience, and the extensive varieties of that experience, with out having used and been deliberately willing to use this app, which is one of the few things I can say I am thankful and comfortable with having done that I find purely coincidental. This app is my key and my lock and I am a shameful mistaken wizard of errors to not take the time to harken it’s wonderfully exhibited effect on my life. I wish it had more free space because I would be a bastion of evidently no refrain on my photographic proclivity and my obsession with imagery and I can say from the fifteen gigs I’m allowed to have and how many times I have gone back and made space that this app couldn’t give me more happiness in this world unless space was limitless and full resolution was without a question, however the space is reasonable and I don’t like every picture I have made or saved anyway so it’s good to be frugal with. Worth the time and nice to have.
I have been using Google Photos for around 10 years starting with other accounts and practically and literally never had any unsolved problems, if I had any problems or frustrations with Google Photos which is “none”, and my files has always been saved in the mode you have set, especially PNG files with transparent background I use for digital art and photoshopping I do, which Apple iCloud mess up all the time, they don’t keep PNG files the way they are supposed to keep, without background for vectors, etc., they give them a white background to those PNG files without background and it’s very inconvenient and frustrating, in the two years of first time use of Apple Devices and iCloud, I got to a point of not wanting to use iCloud or any Apple devices anymore for good, on the other hand, Google Photos has been excellent and simple in the picture storage and has worked almost flawlessly ever since I started using its services. I am very happy with Google Photos as my trust in them with my files can’t be beat by any other cloud storage. I strongly recommend it if you want peace of mind and trust them to care for your files faithfully. By own experience I strongly DO NOT recommend iCloud unless you want a pain in the neck and let them abuse your pocket with their outrageous charges. Google Photos are authentic and legit.
I rarely leave reviews- this is only my 2nd one ever. But I had to share how much I love google photo’s. I have an iPhone, and take a lot of pictures- I was running into problems with backing my pics up- and thought that the iCloud was doing that- wrong. Once I started researching I realized that when I deleted things, they’d disappear in ICloud. Which defeated the whole purpose. I started looking for alternative apps that were reasonably priced and easy- and ran across google photo’s. Not only does it back up my pics automatically I can set it to where it shows previous pictures on certain days (almost like Facebook does the throw back pictures/posts) I can see animated photos- and my favorite of all, I can share albums with friends and family! So I can now share pictures without having to do so on fb! My husbands phone also syncs up with my account once I invited him and so his photo’s go with mine- which is neat to see! It will also delete all the photo’s on your device that have been downloaded to google photo’s- saves tons of space (just got rid of over 2,000 pics on my device) and if I ever want that photo in my photo stream on my phone- I just click and save it to my phone. Super impressed and love this- I really enjoy being able to go back and see hundreds of pictures in one place, that I can organize in albums, and on every single device (ie from my phone, tablet and laptop)and the best part- it’s free! With unlimited storage (unlike the cloud!!) Thank you Google Photo’s from the stress of losing all of my precious pictures!!
I take a lot of pics from my phone, my Go-Pro, Sony HD DSLR, and stuff from the internet, I’m very into MotorSports,(DirtBike, I race my car legally and in illegally, Smash on my truck out in the desert, skate and snowboard, and have one of the cutest dogs out there) So needless to say I get a lot of video and pic opportunities. ALL of my stuff and evidence of my life’s existence is on my computer for editing as well as in Google Photos, I’ve been using it for over 10 years now and I have nothing but good things to say and I think it works and is easy to navigate flawlessly, couldn’t ask for a better program. It seems as though I should be paying for the service that you guys give me and because I don’t have to l would like to say thank you I really appreciate what it is that you guys do and your services enhance and assist my life! I have you guys as my default search engine on my phone and every time I get a new computer/ laptop it seems it’s always Bing as the default search engine when I first operate the machine, and don’t get me wrong I love Microsoft and prefer it over ios, I’m just used to Google cuz it feels normal and people don’t like change and they usually go or stick to what they know or are comfortable with. So yeah I choose you Google to aid my aspects of my life and you guys are doing a good job and keep up the good work and I will ride with you guys till the end... PS-I NEVER do any kind of reviews for ANYTHING or ANYONE, so feel special!!....Gabe Navarro-a satisfied customer.
I love this app! It it fun, easy to navigate. It is free. And it freed up tons of space on my old iPad. I now have a new iPad, with max memory, so storage not an issue for me now. Maybe it is my lack of technological knowledge, but I wish there was a way to access photos from other apps. Like to set profile pics in contacts list. Or to be able to post in multiples on Instagram. Otherwise, I absolutely love Google Photos! UPDATE: I still love the app. BUT…it has repeatedly downloaded hundreds of photos. So I have have hundreds of multiples of the same photos. This was annoying before they changed the conditions of the app and limiting number of free photos. But now it could lead to running out of free space. I really wish they would include some kind of duplicate finder in order to eliminate duplicate photos. I am 66 years old. I do not have enough time left in my life to manually go through all the photos myself to do this. They caused this proglem. They should provide a fix for it! UPDATE AGAIN: Hey Google Photos! Stop repeatedly downloading the same photos. At my age, I don’t want to waste time deleting the same photos downloaded by you repeatedly. Seriously, how difficult can this be??? ANOTHER UPDATE: I am 67 years old now and still no way to easily detect and delete duplicate photos that you downloaded from my computer to my ipad several times. Now you have put a limit on storage capacity and will charge for extra?! Seriously??? And no response from Google Photo? I went from very happy with the app to tolerating it.
It’s a bit confusing but what they are storing for me is pretty adequate for my needs. It would be nice to know I was storing the original quality but I don’t need another monthly bill besides Google Drive. It’s awesome the way they rotate some of the photos for you or give you that option. I wish they would do more in terms of the facial recognition so that you can correctly date some of your photographs were the dates were stripped in the uploading process which for me was a bit of a hellish experience because it crashed while uploading. I got past all that and everything I own is in my Google library I just don’t have them sorted properly. I’m hoping this will be done automatically in the future using the facial recognition technology otherwise I have to spend years fixing my library. Another suggestion would be if they would show you your duplicates which are close to exact duplicates so that you can delete them on your own. Sometimes it appears to be refusing duplicates but it’s hard to tell exactly what Google is doing behind the scenes occasionally I’ll see a duplicate missing other times I find odd photos in my trash. It would be nice to know exactly what’s happening with them folders. Those are all my suggestions and why I don’t have five stars I appreciate the free storage in the meantime hoping I won’t have to go with higher quality photos in the future.
I’ve had Google photos for as long as I can remember. I just recently got my first iPhone{xs max} & since I’m already cellularly challenged 😜lol,my oldest daughter helped me set it up. She used one of my existing emails as my iCloud account. So I don’t have an actual “iCloud” email. Therefore I think some of my issues may be from this… But, although I’ve always liked Googles services & had no problems,I’m finding it very annoying to have to go onto 2 different photos apps just to upload/post a pic onto another app like Instagram or whatever. When I bring up my photos, all that show up are the ones that I’ve recently taken on my iPhone. If I want any of the thousands I have from my past that are on Google photos,I have to go into the app, take a screenshot;go back into what I was in before;bring the my iPhone photos back up,find the screenshot I just took, and Then I can post the picture that was in my Google photos app. When I looked up how to do this,it says to just click on the little box with the arrow,& the photo will be downloaded automatically, blah blah blah… But for some reason that doesn’t work. Possibly because my iCloud email/account isn’t an actual “@icloud” ??? it’s my gmail account??? Whatever the reason,it’s Extremely annoying. Also I prefer iPhones stock photo editing system better than googles. It’s just simple, quick & easy. Don’t get me wrong, Google is Superior to other photo Apps by far!! Google lines up with the photo app on iPhones pretty close. I’m just new to iPhones so I’m still learning new thing every day about how they work.
Easy to use, does everything for you! Saves every pic you take and can even sync up with your other devices. You can even edit pics easily and save or archive a copy of the original and then share them to your contacts or social media/etc. directly from the app. This app also does “Remember this date..” and will show you a pic(s) from the current date just years earlier! Provides an unexpected, beautiful walk down memory lane. However, probably the greatest most sincerely personal and unique feature of Google Photos are the ‘Photo Stories’ and ‘Movies’ they compile for you out of your gallery of pictures! Sometimes they even include subject-matter-appropriate background music and include dates, times, places, and titles describing the theme of the slideshow or collage of photos which range anywhere from deeply personal and heartfelt renderings to silly, awesome, one-of-a-kind gifs you can save and use later! You can even easily purchase one -or all!- of these creations for a tangible hard copy if you want! There are literally so many more amazing features to this app that I can’t even name them all without writing a few more paragraphs lol! So, I hope this honest, personal opinion will serve as a good enough review for those of you who have yet to partake in the effortlessness that is Google Photos. 😘🤗✌🏽
Update: 6 April 2024. This app is easy to use and still beats Apple photo app as to search term intelligence and retrieval. And it’s editing abilities are impressive as well. However Google coulda/shoulda included a photo duplicate search, select and delete function because it still seems that somehow some of my photos get duplicated! Google has the best mathematicians, ai experts/analysts and programmers in the world. Every computer or smartphone user and device depends one way or another on Google services. Given all Google’s talent and Google’s vast user base, Google should/coulda fitted Google Photo with an outstanding Photo Duplicate Deletion by now! A photo duplicate search/select and delete feature could make Google Photos the ultimate photo storage and managing app with this one addition Google Photo Duplicate Deleter should include these features: 1) Intelligence to detect 4 classes of duplicates: exact dupes, nearly exact dupes, similar dupes and No Duplicates Exist photo. 2) Allow users to review and select photos within these groups pic by pic. 3) Allow users to delete either one photo dupe at a time or by “all pics selected.” 4) Create 2 kinds of delete destinations: a) TRASH and a b) HOLD 20 DAYS Before Deletion file. So yes Google Photos is very smart and very much appreciated but it isn’t yet perfect!
“Are you serious”! “There’s no possible way“! WOW !! Is exactly what i say to myself every single time my Friends or family start reliving memories and it never fails one of us will say did anyone take any pictures of that memory and of course the first thing everybody does is start looking thru photo albums Trying To go thru album’s Looking for a picture Or someone will mention try looking thru your phone to see if you have a picture. Most of the time the picture in question would be taking at a certain time where the person wouldn’t even have that same phone or if they did the picture would not be backed up or saved . Well here I come EVERY SINGLE TIME do i come to the rescue all i say is “Let me pull up on my GOOGLE PHOTOS and i know for a fact i have that certain picture and i would bet my paycheck on it that i have that exact picture everyone’s looking for.. see GOOGLE PHOTO’S not only do i feel safe with all my families and children’s pictures but my very own personal ,Personal 😉 pictures too and to put the cherry on top its always backed up if god forbid my phone end up stolen or lost .. im so very Lucky i have google photos.. I Wouldn’t Have It Any Other Way. Google photos YOU ARE MY HERO .. From the bottom of my heart..Thank you 🥰
I’m giving this 4 as I wait for “our newest update” to change it all up again, lol. Just when you get comfy with the “unlimited cloud storage” & you get all your stuff settled where you like it... AND THEN... “Hi, Just letting you know that there’s been a change in policy that takes effect next update so...” Then you’re scrambling to save your memories before digital annihilation occurs (or you’ve purchased additional space) so it gets 4*’s (& I teetered on 3, LoL) because even though it’s a little contradictory at times (offers up quotes of praise for saving people from extra expenses, keeping your device clear of clutter where bugs love to hide{!} & eliminating the need for many (many!) passwords... but then you get the daily “suggestion” to use “auto->XP”! for backup & whatnot which kinda has the opposite impact on your device..., it is a great App for pictures and the sharing of but... I dunno!?! I’m leery that an update won’t clear up room or something like that?! Things change on a regular basis with these Apps & where one’s great for storage it’s lacking in cool editing tools but it’s free so 🤷🏻♀️ (right?!?), LoL! I guess for now it’s fine but my review is as subject to change as the App is. Who knows, maybe a taste of one’s own medicine for a bit would put an end to the potential “fluxing of policy” where updates & the future of storage space &/or fun editing stuff) is concerned.
It’s got just a few simple flaws that should be default options simple to find and change, like the ability to see & change the Summary View of your Photos (whether that’s when you’re viewing all photos, an album, specific date, location, person, ect..) from the defaulted Compact Summary mode to where depending on what you’re looking at (say you’re reminiscing back to this day a year when you were on vacay at a beach instead of working so you’re just scrolling back through all your photos to that time) you will only see 1 photo per specific day displayed, or if it’s by month then you see 3 photos for that listed month & all the others you might have taken that same month or day have to be opened up by a drop down one by one, so legit day-by-day... if you’re trying to narrow it down that closely. Which is frustrating because I can easily change the compact view to be by Day, Month, or Comfy (which is just a disorganized mess- IMO) BUT for me to view ALLL the photos in a overall view for day an entire week or month or all photos in my albums entirety theirs legit no way to disable that drop down to view all. 3 compact views, no VIEW ALL?? Also it’s got some cross-compatibility weaknesses that make you jump through a lot of hoops to say get a specific photo from your google photos you took years ago when androids were still cool, and now have an iPhone. You gotta hit like 12 different selections then download it and save it and move it.. blah blah. Otherwise though it’s good. Does the job for what I need forsure. Plus it’s FREEEE
I love google photos! I started using it shortly after making gmail accounts for my kids. I originally made them accounts so I could email them on the day they took their first steps or said their first word or other milestones and memories. Also so family and friends could send them messages that they one day will read after I give them their account login information. We not only send them emails, but now we also share photos and videos of them. It is super easy too. I literally just take the photos and videos with my iPhone and then they are automatically backed up to google photos. I previously setup an album for each of my kids in google photos and chose to use their facial recognition software to automatically add any footage featuring their cute little faces. It works really, really well. My boys are only 6 and 9 now, but I’m so excited to one day share their account login info with them and share all of their childhood memories with them. I really encourage all parents to try this too. It really works well and is super easy. You really only have to set it up then google does the rest. I’m serious - it’s great. They also have ways for you to make slideshows of photos and/or videos. You can set them to music if you want too. Super easy to use as well. The only complaint I have is that they recently changed the layout of everything and it’s hard for me to figure out where all the features are at now. It used to be, in my opinion, a lot easier to access certain features. But I know I will learn to adapt to the new setup. It’s not difficult, but takes time to learn. All in all though, so so worth it all!
I started using Google photos back when I had an LG and was still using XP on my desktop. Colors are richer, more vibrant. I like the feedback message I sometimes get on the bottom of select photos such as “Fix Lighting” or “Order Photo”. It’s useful and the lighting adjust message is always spot on; makes the photo have more depth. The other aspect I like is when I find one of my photos had been “stylized” or “motion” had been added by whoever at Google makes these touches. I don’t mind the feedback and that’s what you get when you agree to allow them to modify. I took a hiatus from Google photos to work with another photo editing tool. When I returned, I found all my pictures neatly archived. Pleasant surprise when I found many I forgot I had. My only negative: back when I was working with windows XP and an LG, Google photos had more filters and other features such as blemish blending and natural looking skin tone enhancers. The best was the awesome selection of frames to chose from. These features have been removed so I need to bridge my photos to another editing app for this. Other than that, Google photos is still my preferred primary editing tool. Thanks for the years of creativity and for thoughtfully archiving all of it.
Google, I love 💕 your service, I love everything about Google, photos, videos maps, your customer service helped me fix my pc just a little bit ago, and I took a video of the wonderful job as the result of your help, my son gets Norton I don’t, a little while later that day which was only 2 days fixed and finished, I was in heaven I been sick 14yrs , I turned on my pc and Norton was in there rearranging everything and my Google drive where I kept everything important for years was deleting, I lost my mind it’s been a week or so and I hate them everything is different and my Google drive, 😭😭😭😭😭😭 well I’ve been able to send everything from my phone to the pc and print documents pictures and now when I click on a picture it shows up on my right of the screen really small and I can’t print I can’t do anything and now I’m sick with Covid, I’m going to be 63 and I’m not well anyway, and that achievement you guys helped me with , I never knew how to really use a computer and in no time you made me very very happy 😊 and they took it away in a few minutes, I’m too sick to talk to them I feel like I’m getting hit in the head with a hammer , I miss the happy hour, that’s what it feels like, all that work, I’m sorry I’ll be quiet
Features offered are incredibly creative , whatever technology is behind the system recognizing all aspects of a picture from size, time, place or simply a description of the image itself, for example if you couldn’t remember when or where a picture was taken but knew it was a picture by the sea, simply typing ocean, beach or waves, google Photos then narrows down your search by only showing your pictures with specified key word. If I had to use one word to describe it I would use “sleek” just because everything runs so smoothly in sync together, plainly laid out; even not ever using it you can find all the stuff you need fast and easy. Only criticism I could think is make the whole add to album or archive task a little more fluent when being done by the user. I’m sure the software can easily do it way faster and efficient but when manually going through uploads items going in various albums but your sorta going through them as to which album specifically as you upload them and the current process is you have to do it one album at a time and only multiple pictures if you have the pictures smaller to see more and if you can’t see a picture and don’t know if it’s the right photo or not you can’t quick view to check without unchecking all the previous ones. And say you add those to an album and then wanna Archive after well you would have to go back and check all the same exact pictures again cause once images are added to album the selection check marks disappear and to archive all of them and not one at a time checking them is the only way to currently do that. A bit tedious especially when you are someone uploading lots of images all the time. Even with that being said still highly recommend
It’s the best way I’ve ever saved pictures in all my life! Over 40 years of taking pictures. I used to have a camera that spit pics right out, you’d have to shake them to help them along, called Poloroid! Then came disposable cameras, then the pics you developed! I still say~ it’s a Kodak moment!!! Lol! That stuck forever and will continue, even though it’s ALL Google photos and videos for me now! I will NEVER get rid of Google photos!!! They are thee best thing that’s ever happened since sliced bread!!!! I love their “memories “ the “moments” where they combine pictures and make it, like a lil video! And now, they do that 3D thing where the pictures looks like it’s coming out of the phone,~ straight to You… in your own living room!!!! The Only complaint, that I’m not satisfied with now, is I’ve run out of storage space! I thought the “cloud” made it endless! Unfortunately, we now have to pay for more space. But, I won’t. I refuse to. So, I have to keep going through and erasing fond memories. It’s a bummer, but it is what it is. I do like and really appreciate how they’ll separate my blurry photos, which makes it a lot easier to find which ones to dispose of. Other than that though, completely satisfied customer here!!!
This app is amazing! Much better than the original Photo app in many ways. (Not trying to criticize the app, it’s pretty neat too, just stating my opinion) Although all you can do is look at and edit your photos, I still have so many ways how this particular app is really cool too. 1, there are really cool editing options! You can make really cool collages, interesting animations, amazing color pops, splendid cinematic photos, and terrific movies! 2, there are really cool features! It organizes your photos into different things, (Birthdays, Weddings, etc.), you can share everything you create (And by everything, I mean literally EVERYTHING you create on that bad boy) and so many other really cool things! I could spend hours on that app, it’s so cool! 3, Google Photos actually edits your photos into better ones! Here’s an example: I took a picture at a beach and it looked really nice. When I looked at the photo again on Google Photos I realized the app had turned it into a mind blowing photo! It looked like a painting! So to sum this review up, I just want you to know and understand that Google Photos is the most amazing app I have ever seen! So what are you waiting for? Stop sitting on your fannie and download Google Photos today! Like NOW!!
You saved my piece of mind My wife and I are retired We always wanted to take a trip out west we live in Florida With the help of my wife’s sister they navigated a trip of a lifetime almost 6 weeks of sights and new experiences most of the time we took pictures with the camera and my apple phone camera When we got home after a week or so it was time to share pics off my phone to Debbie’s sister Well I shared every pic off my camera including the iCloud it overloaded her phone and she was and is quite not happy with Tom understandable It upset me to the point I just started deleting pictures and I deleted thinking I was just deleting what I sent her WRONG I was deleting mine and again I was sick now I lost a really really great friend I would die for but I lost all my pictures for my wife and I I’m batting a thousand This morning I remember google photos always saves a picture let’s see what’s in there OH MY GOD yes they are all there every one of them my heart is beating I feel so relieved I don’t know who to Thank in Google if you do please forward this to them I have so much to be thankful for Thank you for your time to allow me to share this horrible experience that just turned into something truly great
Love having all of my pictures in one places for the most part. I also love how smart it is and how the program can go through and recognize faces and group them together, if you name certain individuals. I’ve seen it work on pictures as young as baby photos to older pictures. Now that’s impressive! If it isn’t sure if this person “A” is the same as “B”, then it will ask, “Is ‘A’ the same person as ‘B’ or different? You choose and it moves on to the next picture. Very simple, yet effective. You can go through and label each person in each picture, even the blurring ones, so as to be sure that you remember everything. You can even edit and make changes to the picture once it has been added to Google Photos. Anytime you need the picture, all you have to do is to share it or save it on your device again to reuse. 💜❤️💞 It is truly magnificent! Oh, and the automatic lifelike pics that it makes for you are awesome. You can make little photo album with pictures that you choose or allow the app to do it for you, or just switch one or two pics out here and there. You can print from the app and add a frame. I could just go on and on. Love this app! 🥰
It’s the only way to go, if ya ask me! I know, ya ain’t asking, right? Okay, well that’s just fine, because I’m just-a-tellin! What I’m telling is that I love this App, because of so many things I won’t be able to list em all! Totally impossible! But I can share a few reasons why I love it so much! One is because of the option of assistant! When you choose this it gives you an option to save or dismiss the Apps, altered & filtered or maybe, brightened & cropped, or maybe, actually I can keep going but you get the Jist of what I’m sayin, right? You won’t believe the things assistant can do to your pics to make them look better or make them look like a work of art! You just won’t believe your eyes, or that you even took the pic in the first place once you see what all it can and will do! Lol woo-wee! I love this so much! Don’t waste your time with any other App out there claiming to do this or that! This one doesn’t have to claim anything, just open it up and Vola! Lol Art, Beauty, Imagination & I can keep going..... you already know! I’m going to stop here and let you see for yourself! The App speaks for itself! Plus I’ve spoken way to much as it is! Jeesh! Lol Y’all will have a blast and enjoy! I know y’all will! Lol Chow!
Although I love the unlimited storage and ease of album making, sharing, and management there are freaky unexplained things that happen to photos you know were in your collection but suddenly are no where to be found! I mean no where, not in the trash, archive, or backup places that you set any where. Case in point, I took a picture of the back and front of my business Credit card so that I could refer to my account numbers when I needed to while it was in the possession of an employee. I did so many times. When I looked for it today it had just vanished! I was not in the trash, archive, or back up places and I had not done anything with it since I last checked it. I don’t know if I was hacked, Google automatically removes such things, or maybe Google pulled for their own uses as per the Usage agreement we all sign without reading. That was not the first time something mysteriously disappeared from my photo collection yet is was the most vital. You will see that things tend to disappear for no reason and you will think you are going crazy and all Google will say is, “Check your archive, trash, and back up settings.” All these suggestions are no help when something totally disappears for no reason. BEWARE!!!
I like Google Photos, but I wish their was an option under the "EDIT" tab, where I could add text or be able to write on the actual photo and be able to pick different colors, fonts, size of fonts and also underline, bold or put the text in italics. Also, my email is also linked to my son's phone, since I don't want to set him up with his own email account, until he gets a little bit older, that means that the Google Photo app is also linked to his phone, since he takes photos too. It would be nice to have an option to put a password protection on the albums that photos of each person is under. For example, if the album is labeled "ME", I wouldn't want him clicking on the tab and see photos of his mother that he shouldn't be looking at and scar him for life. Lol! Also, it would even come in handy when parents let their children play on their phone and they stumble upon photos that their parents didn't want them to see. Since my son also takes photos, one other idea that I had would be that anytime he takes photos and Google Photos downloads them, that the photos would be categorized by the device it was downloaded from, but you would still be able to organize the photos into albums later. Thank you!
One word: AWESOME!!
Just hope that the space for photos is unlimited. :v
I downloaded it months ago to access an album someone shared, and now it has become my main photo app! I love the ease of use, all the editing options, and how seamless transitions are between different areas of the app. I love how clean, reliable, and organized the app is. I adore the assistant and always look forward to the creations assistant comes up with. They are always awesome!! I have recommended this app to many people.
Best program
Belle option pour ceux qui n’ont plus de stockage dans leur cellulaire. J’adore.
❤️ It!
Avoir 15 ans de sa vie en photos qui te suit partout, juste WOW!
Google photos is a life saver
It’s nice to have a backup photo album just in case you delete a photo/video that you didn’t accidentally deleted.
Très bon outils pour faciliter le stockage et le classement de photos!
Love the app, but since the new update I have a persistent notification badge on the app icon, and I can’t find any way to dismiss it ☹️
Google Photos: Backup & Edit Negative Reviews and Ratings
This app is one of the best as far as design and usability. It is also very useful, a blessing for people without much storage, and for sharing and making photo books. Huge problem for me and my family, though: we use the Restrictions function for iPads and iPhones. We have removed browsers and limited web access to adult content and set the app install limit to apps rated 12+ or something like that. Google Photos is rated 4+ because Google told the App Store that they do not provide unrestricted web access. Well, they do. Unlike other apps, when you click the Privacy Policy link or something similar in this app’s settings, you get a page that can easily lead you to a google search page whose history is not kept. To get this search page, just keep clicking settings links on the webpages and trying to get to Google Account, from which you can find a link to google search. From there you can get to any website. And, it’s quite easy to come up with a search term that brings up porn in Images even with Apple’s setting turned on to Limit Adult Content. I am writing this review as a shot in the dark, hoping Google will change it’s practice of putting those wide-open links in it’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy webpages and other such places. Every single Google app can get you unrestricted web access, even though Google reports to the App Store rating system that web access is not available. If they at least reported accurately, the apps would be rated 17+ instead of 4+.
This app tries to work as a replacement for the default photos app, it automatically backs up photos, has an assistant to help make photos better, can recognize faces, has endless space. It has a lot of great features the default photos app doesn't have, and I have to applaud all the great things the app does. But it has a major problem stopping me from moving all my photos to Google Photos and sticking with it. There is no way to move albums you've made in the default photos app to a Google Photos album. This makes it terrible for someone like me with thousands of photos, with thousands already organized into seperate albums on my default photos app. It would take me hours to scroll through my entire camera roll on Google Photos to make my albums again. Even if you can't move entire albums from the default photos app to the Google photos app, you could make a compromise with an upload feature. Other apps, like Dropbox, let you upload photos by pulling up a menu that let's you see all your albums on your Photos app. That would be a start for letting people transfer their albums to this app instead of having to scroll through their entire library, sorting x from y. I would give this app a 5 star, but this problem is so detrimental, it ruins me using this app until this problem gets fixed. I hope this gets fixed later on, so I can use this app and free up the space I have on my phone later on, but until then this app is great but with a huge problem for completing moving from the photos app to this one.
Dear google photos, I love google photos I have been using it for about 4 years and it’s safe to say that it needs more storage. My phone only has a storage of 65g and google photos only holds 15g. If you want more storage you have to pay for it. While I love the backing up and how it works and is easy to use. It needs to add more storage and I’m definitely not the only one who thinks that. I have at least 20 friends that deleted this app and said “I would pay but I’m not spending my money on something that won’t even hold half of my storage for photos.” And as a person with a major in business, google photos, you need to up your storage. I completely get the “we give you 15g, you pay for the rest” gig. But let’s be honest, half of your customers aren’t gonna pay for extra storage if your hardly giving storage to begin with. So Im trying to say it in a nice way, but, you need to do better. But, your app has pretty fast backing up and holds photos even if you run out of storage. And it works pretty similar to normal photos app. But please, for you and your customers, add at least 20-25 maybe even 30g of storage. Also, why is it that your number 7 in photo apps? Maybe you need to start posting some updates and maybe just maybe you’ll at least make it to top 5. Sincerely, a person who wants and needs more storage and is thinking of deleting the app and finding
I’ve been using Google Photos for years. I switched to Google Photos even though I use an iPhone and a Mac because my library was too big and it was taking up too much space on my iPhone. if I deleted pictures from my iPhone, it would delete them from iCloud. So I needed a way to store my photos but still be able to delete them off my phone when I needed space so I switched to Google photos. Sometime last year I was looking for photos from 2013 and they’re almost all gone. There’s a few things left, but most everything is gone before 2017. I exchanged a multitude of emails with their support team and they couldn’t help me. I have a very large storage capacity and never missed any annual payments for that. I didn’t delete them. So there’s no reason that my photos/videos should’ve disappeared. Customer support was terrible. Just exchanging emails with them was disjointed and time consuming. You can’t talk to anyone live so it’s a back and forth thing and they could give me any answers as to why they have gone missing. And then today I was trying to share some older photos but even though I can see them in the app when I try to share them it tells me that they need to be backed up first - but because the originals are not on my phone anymore the backup can’t happen. I’m crushed. These are all my kids photos from when they were babies. I thought Google would be the safest place to store them but clearly they’re not.
I hate google photos. I was really excited to try it. I backed up all my photos from my phone to Google photos. Unfortunately I couldn’t scroll through my photos to see any of them. There’s apparently a glitch where when scrolling through photos the app forces you to scroll all the way back to the top so you can’t ever look through your photos. This continued even after I upgraded my phone and deleted and re installed the app. Nothing fixed it. Finally, I decided to take all my photos from google photos back on to my phone so I can upload them to iCloud instead. Of course when you try to do that often you don’t even get the option to even save photos to your device/phone! And when this happens you have to restart the app. And then when you finally do download images from google photos to your phone in the slowest way possible so the app doesn’t crash the photos are out of order and a complete disorganized mess of photos. Oh, and I’m now trying to delete photos from google photos and it is also deleting those photos from my iCloud even though I disabled syncing. So I’m STILL trying to figure out how to delete photos from google photos (and be done with google photos altogether). I’ve never even written a review for an app in my life but this app is terribly painful to use and even more painful to break up with. I regret ever using google photos. Hours of my life wasted trying to recover my own photos. Useless.
While I like the ability to back up my photos and search on Google Photos (by person, date, or content), the more I use the app, the more problems I see. I’ve used this app for years but almost no overwhelming upgrades have been made in that time. Unless you count being able to identify pets, which GP thinks my brothers dog and a llama are the same animal. 1. It’ll identify people for you so that you can search for pictures of your cousin John or something of the sort. Except that the algorithm that Google uses to identify people is woefully inadequate. If the picture is unclear, they’re wearing a mask, it’s only their profile, it’s a picture from behind, or for no reason at all, Google doesn’t identify them as people, thus you can’t tag that photo for your own purposes. 2. Not all photos get moved. I have a picture of a friend and I feeding a baby animal at a zoo. It’s STILL on my phone but not anywhere on GP. And there doesn’t seem to be any way to upload it to GP manually. So, if I’d deleted that on my device to make room, I’d have lost it forever. 3. There’s been a continuous problem for YEARS about scrolling. Sometimes in the search feature, it only lets you scroll so far and then pops you back up to a different point. It’s been a problem that has been complained about but no fix has been forthcoming. Right now, it seems to be the best app for this photo storage with it's features. However, it is far from ideal and Google is such an innovative company that you have to assume that these issues aren’t being addressed on purpose.
Google photos is an all or nothing app. Either it backs up all your photos, every single one, or none at all. Sometimes I use a screen shot as a quick reference for a few minutes then delete it from my phone, but then it’s still in the google account. It’s extremely frustrating to go back delete them from google, especially because that too is difficult to do. There’s no easy way to scroll through and delete quickly. You either have to view them from a small thumbnail and hope you’re not deleting something important or take a long time looking at each one and having to click multiple times to delete 1 photo. I am trying to free up space on my phone so deleting photos is supposed to be the easy choice since I have them backed up to google. However it either gives me option to delete ALL of the photos off my phone or none at all. There are still plenty of pictures I would like to keep sorted in the folders I created on my phone for quick reference. I’ve heard the argument “well they’re still on your phone you just have to open google photos instead of your regular photos.” This is of no use if you are somewhere with spotty or no internet connection. The app is not user friendly, the interface is not clean, and the way it sorts photos is of no real use to me. There should be extensive settings where I can toggle on and off different combinations of options.
Don't get me wrong, the Google Photos itself is pretty good. Okay, the 15 GB offered by Google is honestly much better compared to other things like iCloud and Microsoft that only offer 10 GB for free, right? But the thing is, Google Photos is connected to Gmail and the other things, so whenever you run out of storage in Google Photos, that obligatorily blocks Gmail and all those other stuff. Deleting Google Photos and syncing is one of the most difficult things ever. Like I'm not bad at technology. I literally tried doing it with ChatGPT just to help me, and I couldn't do it anyways. Whenever I wanted to delete the photos because I didn't want to be synced because it would block my Gmail, Google Photos no matter what would not allow me If I stopped the permission from using my photos, then it would not allow me to look at my photos and not allow me to delete anything. Because I really did not need the storage. I just wanted to keep my photos safe so they wouldn't get deleted by accident. Which in return deleted it in Google Photos, and I had noticed that did they also delete my iCloud photos. And I lost 6,000 photos, 3 years of my Brazilian experience, and I have no photos of my home country. It's not accessible. Super hard to control if you don't give a lot of full permission. And I would not recommend unless you pay for it monthly.
The google photos app seems ok until you realize it is synced to your gmail storage, it also syncs to your iCloud storage and phone so when you want to delete photos just from google photo to allow storage for regular emails this becomes a problem fast. The google photo app NEEDS selective deleting icons during manage storage so you can deselect/select iCloud storage, phone device, and google photo storage independently. It grabbed everything and I had to do several things to keep my photos safe and put back in iCloud just to free up storage on google photo so I could receive emails. I have 2TB ICloud and wanted to use google photos to see any benefits but never got to that point because it forced me to buy or manage storage immediately and was synced to my iCloud storage. If you already have storage don’t even bother checking the app out as it becomes a major headache syncing to iCloud and phone, hopefully they will add deleting selective icons so you can use and try separately from your iCloud storage if you choose. They also need to reserve an optional GB for emails and allow you time to delete and navigate the app without risking important emails returning to sender etc. This is a big negative for people when you force them to buy storage not really needed just to continue to receive emails since all google accounts are synced to the free 15GB.
Some very cool features for a free app (now gone). edit and creat movies takes alot of data and is slow. being able to add your own music wait i cant anymore. Sadly google does not seem to think improving features of the app is a worthy investment. Frequent updates are simply to keep the app from crashing and steal data from users It appears Google is putting little or no $ into making the app better. The filters are okay (better editing than apple photos), but No trial period for the premium to test it out so again lots of ?. Under the "utilities" tab WAS an Ai generated "effects" card where uploaded photos are edited fir you and you have the option to save them. That feature is now gone as well. definitely WAS worth 3 stars, but now it is completely out of date without useful editing tools. You never could select photos to create or a panorama. I would gladly pay money to do this. Sadly it is not an option, nobody at google is paid to care, and the bosses don't read these reviews as demonstrated with less features. 10+ years ago features created were probably never improved after that. Also the Ai often messes up in stitching photos together for the panorama feature, so they are not stitched properly. If I could edit these photos using the software that might change my rating. google has not responded to complaints like these or updated the app to fix these limitations. Sad.
There’s a lot I like and a lot that frustrates me about this app since I started to pay for it. To start with, I can only edit photos with the enhanced edits (dynamic, color pop, etc.) on my iPhone. It doesn’t give me the option on my iPad or Chromebook (using the app or using the website), it would be great to use the larger screen when editing. I’ve tried all the fixes suggested online. Also, when I use the enhanced edits, I only get the option to save the photo as a copy. If I want the edited copy in the album, I have to add that version to the album and then delete the original (since I don’t want the same picture twice). It’s very frustrating. When I don’t use enhanced edits I get the option for Save or Save Copy, why isn’t that an option for both? I would change my review to 5 stars if those were fixed. Lastly, since the last update the app crashes way too frequently when I’m editing. It used to every once in a while, now it does every 15 or so photos. All that being said, while I like Google Photos, I prefer Adobe Lightroom. But when you’re on a budget, this is a great option for a lot of storage and enhanced edit features. Lightroom is easier to use, but costs a lot more with only a fifth of the storage space.
I got this account after seeing how you could save frames from videos after my GoPro Quik limit before premium ran out. It didn’t compare to that at all— even when slowing a video you couldn’t see all frames and save the desired moment. The problem though, was when I opened my Google Drive to do schoolwork, my storage was full from my Google photos. I didn’t intend for them to be saved, and even clicked to have them not be backed up, as all my photos are on my phone and it wasn’t needed. You would think that would imply no photos would be saved, but I couldn’t do any work since it blocked me from editing documents since my storage was now full. When I opened Google photos to delete it— I learned you could not delete account and it’s basically permanently bound to my email, Drive, and everything Google. So, I tried to delete all my photos and unlinked it to my phone. But there is no way to select all your photos in bulk; I would have to spend hours deleting every individual photo to avoid this— or, I would have to spend money to buy more storage, which is clearly what they want you to do, as the pop-ups are constant and I can’t work in my Drive without spending hours deleting photos. I regret getting this app so much and would have never got it if I knew it was so binding. DO NOT GET THIS APP IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR STORAGE.
I’ve been using this app for a year and a half, after we set up a catch-all album for photos of our newborn son. I didn’t realize it would become the massive shared album it is today, but after uploading many, many photos I have a few points as to why this app drives me absolutely crazy. First, it HATES Apple. I have an iPhone, so sue me. Baby daddy has a Pixel so this was an easier compromise (I can use Google Photos but he couldn’t use iCloud). I can’t hold and click to preview photos, and more importantly videos, which is a huge downer!!! Anyone who takes photos of kids knows there are a huge amount of blurry ones, or two almost identically cute ones except in one of them your kid is like squinting their left eye or something. I want to be able to preview the photos and pick only the good ones! And I don’t always remember which videos are album worthy—it would be so nice to be able to preview those as well. Another aspect of this app I don’t like is that it takes you directly to the comments feed of the shared album. I’d rather see the pictures first, instead of having to click yet another button to take me to the shared album. The UI just is not very streamlined and a lot of things are redundant, or seem like they are but end up being totally different. Does my review confuse you? That’s how I feel trying to navigate this app!
This app will wreck your life. I downloaded the app to access some photos that my friend sent me. Unbeknownst to me, the app started backing up all of my own photos on my phone. The app expended all of the data storage that I have with my Google account which locked up my email and drive files to the point that I could no longer use them. The app did not give me the option to “undo backup” like it claims. Instead it forced me to sign up for a data storage subscription. This app dupes you and then holds your email and other services hostage until you pay for a subscription. Now that I have subscribed I can use my email again, but in order to remove the photos from the cloud I have to delete the thousands of photos manually on the web. Which is something I could not do on the app on my phone without the app also deleting my photos from my phone’s library too so it said. The online help from Google said to delete the app first before trying to fix anything on the web. And the online help article had the GALL to tell me that since it might take hours to delete all the photos from the cloud manually on the web that I should listen to a podcast while doing that. They were trying to be cute probably, but you should know that this is probably one of the most headache inducing and worst apps that you could put on your phone. Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!
I’ve been using Google photos for a long time and recently I’ve been wanting to get rid of Google photos because I don’t want to pay for the storage I have iCloud and I’d rather use that with my photos in my phone then pay extra with Google photos. I’ve been in process of trying to get things back onto my phone, but Google photos take over your phone so much. It makes it difficult. Now I’ve stopped my next payment for the storage Cloud storage for Google photos now not only has it stopped the storage for the photos, which is what I want. I’m in the process of want to get rid of it? It actually has rolled over into my mail. And now I can’t even receive mail because my Google photos is full and I’m trying to delete. I’ve been deleting photos and deleting and deleting and yet still, my mail is full and cannot be says as of January 7 I won’t receive mail because of my Google photos. I would recommend highly recommend. Not to get to school photos unless you intend on paying a lot of money because in time in the years, your storage is gonna get more and more and in other words, you’re gonna need to pay more more more more overtime it builds up and they lock you in because you delete it from Google photos and it deletes it from all your devices and I can’t stop it so basically if you get Google photos, you will lose all your photos to get rid of Google photos FYI and I don’t have a PC right now to go and try to download it to get your photos back. It’s nearly it’s very difficult. Anyways and finish I am not happy. At all with Google photos and how it controls everything.
This app is amazing, I’ve lost important photos before when I’ve updated my phone a couple of years ago, then I found google photos that constantly keeps all your photos and videos in the cloud so you never have to worry about loosing them again! This app is a game changer compared to iCloud that has just a tiny amount of space, and you need to purchase more space to adding photos, and that was the best part about google photos, it was free. And as a student with student loans I don’t have a lot of extra money to spend it on extra cloud space, especially when the money could go towards food or actual space in the real world like my rent. But I’ve gotten the news that google will now be charging for more space, and I’m absolutely devastated I’m using this service as of now, ( while it’s still free), but I can’t guarantee that I’m going to keep using it once I need to purchase more space, like what’s making me purchase google photo space, when if I was gonna purchase more space I could buy Icloud space, and have it be way more convenient and without all the extra steps of uploading my photos then deleting them off my phone and opening another app on top of my Apple photos? It’s just not practical and I’m very sad that I’ll most likely have to move from google photos once I run out of space. Rip free google photos, you will be greatly missed.
This app worked great for me until recently. Previously when I pressed “delete device originals”, it would delete ONLY THE DEVICE ORIGINALS. Now I pressed it and it deleted them from both my device and from my google photos. And now, I put some very important images and videos on my device which I will need very soon, and I assumed since I had archived these photos and videos and the app said backup complete, when I deleted them on my apple photos app, they would still be on the google photos app. This was not the case. After I clicked “delete immediately” on my device the photos where completely gone. They were no longer in my archives, they were nowhere to be found in recently deleted or the trash can, they were not in my google photos at all. As far as I can tell, I’ve lost these important items for good and there will be no way for me to recover them due to a quite honestly flawed system. That’s very messed up and now that I want to get rid of the google photos app, I basically can’t because due to its constant pestering, ALL of my photos are on this google cloud. Coincidentally all of them except the photos i actually needed. This isn’t the first time this has happened and it’s really ruining my experience as well as my outside life. The reviews are from people who were wowed by this app I’m the beginning but have yet to get screwed over by trusting this company when you needed it the most. Do yourself a favor and use a different app, you’ll thank me later.
I tried to write a review that was negative but sadly I am having a hard time posting it, but the gist of my review is that I can understand now, despite being an investor in Apple and Google and a venture capitalist who has high tech investments in the stock market and high tech startup businesses, why the federal government’s trying to crack down on Google and Apple for monopoly practices as first Apple surprised me by suddenly letting me know that I had run out of photo and video storage space and would need to pay about a dollar a month for additional storage space, and when I decided to try Google Photos at least they have been a lot better in informing me that I am at about 55 percent of my free storage space, but like Apple, they didn’t inform me in advance how much I would be required to pay if, instead of taking ungodly amounts of time to delete old and possibly important family and business photos, I wanted to buy additional storage or how I could archive the old photos and if I did this, would I still be able to access them in the future. This information is probably hidden somewhere on Google, just like it is at Apple, but you folks don’t want to make it too easy on the consumer to find I think so you can make some good, old fashioned money off of us uneducated consumers which is part of the current extreme capitalist system now operating in the country where too many BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people and others, just a rich white woma, are exploited by a corrupt capitalist system that rich Billionaires run and fund, often covertly, with their Dark Money funding of the courts and government systems.
First, most of my computers are Apple, and I take a lot of photos with my iPhone. This Google app/ system is ok for users that want to take snapshots to post on social media. As an Engineer and technical craftsman, I can’t discern if there is any way to use it for these purposes. My requirements are for technical photographs showing processes and assemblies mainly to send to publishers (and to publish on-line) illustrations for engineering uses. From what I can determine, is’s not too good for that, although I have never purchased a “For Dummies” book and learned the full capabilities of Google Photos. However, I vastly prefer it over the Apple Photo program that takes control of all content, holds them hostage, and deletes them if you don’t want to play by their rules and pay their fees. I actually purchased a Windows-10 laptop for my phone and camera downloads rather than struggle trying to convert and download my pictures to something a user completely “Apple” can use. I do store my social photos ( family, weddings, and vacations, etc.) on Google Photos, simply because they separate them by date and Google doesn’t mess with them further. And, you can download photos to a thumb drive and take them to a corner drugstore photo printer and gets prints for Granny, something impossible with anything Apple.
I downloaded google photos so save storage due to the fact that I have a lot of photos. Once it properly downloaded it deleted over 1000 of my photos and videos and I do not know how to get them back. I have a very personal video of a loved one who battled cancer and lost his voice and I had a video of him singing. That footage is now lost to this app. Please if you have anyway to help me contact me. Any help will be much appreciated!
Google betrayed every user by breaking the free unlimited photo storage. I’ve been using it since 2016 and if google goes ahead with its plan, I’m planing to ditch all google services.
It’s nearly impossible to de-link Google photos from iPhone once you’ve synced them together. That was all well and good when they offered unlimited storage but now that I’m trying to delete photos from Google photos, they keep deleting from my iPhone. I’m not particularly tech savvy so it has been a total nightmare trying to figure this out. It’s really frustrating and I wish they made it easier to separate the two systems.
Why would a service like unlimited photo storage change? many people use it to save up storage and this is just sad if y’all can change your mind, many people would keep the app
Typical, first get users to upload to your platform then try to stick it to them to pay for more storage. I figured you give me free uploads and in exchange google can sniff through my emails 👎🏻
I just learnt that google will not provide unlimited high quality pictures and videos to be uploaded starting mid next year. This was one of the best options that was provided and I’m very disappointed. Could you please tell me if all users have to pay after the new change and remove all the previous photos?
Google is changing their policy of storing the photo for free, I feel cheated
I recently decide that I wanted more than the 5gb free of iCloud storage, so I used google photos, after all of my photos were uploaded, I had run out of storage, I had used my google account that I use for everything, so I needed space, the first thing I did, was selected all of my photos in google photos, and deleted them. So after 10 years of taking photos on my iPhone, I now have lost EVERYTHING including in iCloud, because google photos doesn’t allow you to delete just from photos, and is suspiciously cryptic about what the delete function does.
It is very unclear that google photos doesn’t really back up your photos but instead syncs it to your phone. Google tells me my storage is up so i can’t send emails and i delete photos but what it doesn’t tell me not once during the entire process is that google deleted these PHOTOS just for fun on your phone as well. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS APP I AM BEGGING YOU
Limited space. Can’t remove photos from local without it going off of google photos. Photos disappear for no rhyme or reason. You get what you pay for.
This app is an EPIC FAIL! I enabled the sync backup option. Well, now if I want to delete some of the pictures I uploaded, they will be deleted on my original device! I’m trying to solve this issue for awhile and this app will be deleted as soon as I know my pictures are save!
I suspected that google photos would stop being free someday but hoped that maybe my thoughts were wrong, now google confirmed they gonna make you to pay for that and now I see that this “free” app were just a trick to collect as many users as possible((( very frustrating, many people trusted you and transferred all their photo collection on your service, shame on you for that, not interested in you any more, if I wanna pay, I’ll find other services...
That’s defying it’s own mission statement. They chose to say never run out of space again. Now there will no longer be free storage (beyond a pitiful amount). Well, guess what? You broke your own promise.
Well this didn’t pan out, with them going to paid service. Not going to work long term
I started using google photos because it had unlimited storage for photos and videos. and now with this new policy it will no longer be the same. so what the hell am i supposed to do now.
I do not like google photos controlling the photos destiny that I take with my I-phone. Very hard to download photos to my laptop photo library. Not happy with this app at all
No way I grant access to all photos. And the app won’t work without it ... uninstall
Why do you have to make it so complicated and confusing. Why does this software resist me most of the time? Why can I not simply move my photo files around as I see fit, just like the file manager in Windows, add, delete, move single photo files, strings of files, folders with files, trees of folders, anything? From my computer to my Google cloud setup for photos or any other kind of files? Or move photos into the cloud from an email or text message, or from a usb key? Once in the cloud, why can I not set up my own folders and move files/photos in and out of those as I see fit? Why can you not make it simple and straightforward? I am very frustrated!
Recent update no longer show cast icon. Connected to same wifi.
They changed the layout of the photos and I personally hate it a lot there should be somewhere in the app that can allow you to change between layouts
Why remove the ability to set the photo grid to 1:1 squares? Instead, it randomly tosses in large, aspect-ratio images. Screws up the chronology and makes it hard to skim through 100s of photos. Why remove this basic UI functionality. I guess Google’s just letting Ai run wild with their app dev now? Absolute garbage.
Why remove the dates? Was easier to see dates. Now, not so clear.
I wanted to use its editing abilities, but it doesn’t allow me to import just one photo on iOS. It demands I upload all of my photo data in order for it to even be useful! Which, would take up all of my google storage for other things as well, making it impossibly for gmails and other tools. Ridiculous
The default tab is "Create," which forces users to switch to the "Photos" tab every time they open the app. This repetitive action detracts from the app's primary purpose and adds unnecessary friction to the user experience.
Google Photos no longer works properly on my iPad Pro. I cannot edit photos, I cannot delete photos and I cannot find my many albums created over the years, they are gone. I cannot share albums. It works fine on my iphone pro 14. I loved it, but now I’m so disappointed.
Why can't this app search for photos that aren't backed up to the google cloud? All the data is on my phone. Fire whoever made this illogical decision and have a good discussion about what a bad direction your products have been going in.
Unnecessarily requires full access to all photos instead of a limited selection. The only reason for this is to siphon as much data as possible, there’s no technical reason it can’t work the same with a subset since it could just treat that as if it’s the full set it knows about
Most cloud photo storage services allow users to pick photos to upload. Google Photos is the only one that doesn’t sync unless full access is granted. This is ridiculous. Most people only want to selectively back up some photos instead of blindly uploading any photos taken.
Google is a company that has now lost all credibility by bending over for a fascist.
Manages to have LESS space then my default photo app and will hold your email account hostage when you run out of space. don’t download this garbage
I have almost used the whole space, and I can’t upgrade my membership. No help from google, they have no customer value at all
You cannot not shared LIMITED ACCESS TO SPECIFIC PHOTOS YOU SELECT,, why do I have to share my full photos with Google in order to upload photos to Google photos app to add to a Google photos album someone created - every other app allows for limited access, very invasive on privacy that this is required to simply upload photos to an album. Google Photos should all the app to be functional with limited access to photos selected.
Latest UI change made it garbage. Why search needs to be separate tab. Why Collections and Memories are separate and now it takes multiple click to get to Albums. Please reverse it back where albums are their own tab. I get you guys are pushing new ways so customers are forced to use some features but it makes experience worse.
Don’t get this app unless you plan on buying extra space. Once you reach the max space, google holds your other google products hostage (INCLUDING EMAIL - will stop you from sending or receiving mail) until you buy more space or make space. Email and photo storage should be totally separate. I rely on my email for work and other important things so its very annoying that google does this.
Since Google Photos don't save “for free” my pictures anymore and want to charge for it, it has become obsolete, retrograde and useless. A must delete app
Google did the classic bait and switch. They got us hooked on the free photo backup, then forces us to pay.
Bait and switch. I never needed a cloud solution. I moved all photos from a free desktop solution that met my needs. Now i need to reverse this decision and I need to download everything back to my desktop solution to get rid of google photo’s.
We loved this app. It was one of unique services. Please keep it free like now. If it needs payment then there are lots of alternatives out there.
I was really happy with this service, however… When I signed for the service it was marketed as “free unlimited storage of pics” if you didn’t mind the resolution of the pics being capped. Great for me and great for most probably. Most of my pics are backed up there now. Then they changed their policy to a pay system, so all of a sudden they have my pics hostage. I am kind of stuck now, unless I pay up, move all my photos to a local HD or some other photo storage service. It feels as if I’m being extorted. I trusted the early promise, now they have the only copy of a lot of my photos. Seems pretty shady.
