OnX Fish: Midwest Fishing Maps Customer Service

This App is fantastic, and will only get better as more information is added to the database. That said, There’s a few things. One, need to be able to add data as a user. Not sure where the actual data is coming from. There’s also a good amount of lakes with datapoints and fish locations. There’s also a LOT of lakes with nothing. My two biggest complaints are this: 1. You need to make an iPad version. That, at this point, there isn’t one with the ease of porting an iOS app to iPadOS in 2025 is kind of shocking. 2. I subscribed on my phone, and I get the “you should subscribe” notifications, but I already do. For such a well designed app, these are the kinds of things we see on rookie apps. Especially the every open notification to subscribe even when I already have. You guys are like 85% of the way there.. The last 15% is what sets you over the top.

This app is great for many different applications, and brings a lot of different information that both serious and amateur anglers can appreciate. This app takes in a lot of information and presents it all in one location which is very helpful for a one click option for access to different recourses. This is something that no other app does successfully and they did a great job of making that happen. However there are a few things with this app that I find don’t serve there purpose properly. The first of which is both the “trophy potential” and “fish abundance” labels. I have found that most of the lakes around my area and beyond simply have misleading information about them. Many well known trophy walleye lakes do not list walleye with “trophy potential” but then another lake that is more known for smaller size walleye will receive the “trophy potential” label. This is not only true for walleye, but every other fish species as well. The same goes for the “fish abundance” which just seems very inconsistent with the reality with how many fish are actually in a lake. I understand that they are just estimating, but I think many could take this information too seriously and end up making a fishing trip to a lake only to find the information wasn't consistent with reality. The other issue is the lake contours are poor. If you are looking to get an app to give you lake contours this is not the app for you. I would love to see them upgrade the contours to something more accurate like Lakemaster or Navionics, but I know that’s a big ask. Overall I think this app is very useful and all anglers should take advantage of it, but I would not take the “fish abundance” and “trophy potential” to seriously. The Minnesota DNR website gives you access to all that raw data for free and is easier to digest. I hope that helps some of you.

This app has completely transformed how I plan my fishing adventures. With the ability to filter by species, trophy potential, and abundance, finding the perfect fishing spot has never been easier. One of the standout features is the access to DNR survey data, right at your fingertips, making research seamless and efficient. I also love the built-in weather reports and radar overlays, which are invaluable for keeping an eye on changing conditions while on the water. It’s practical, intuitive, and incredibly detailed. Honestly, this is the only fishing app I rely on now. It’s an all-in-one tool that just keeps getting better with every update. If you’re serious about fishing, this app isn’t just A game-changer it is THE game-changer!

I was excited to see onX release a fishing based app. I am a frequent user of onX Hunt, so when I saw the release of onX Fish, excited was an understatement. After downloading and exploring the app, it’s definitely easy to use. Especially if you have used onX Hunt. The navigation and depth charts are nearly spot on, the fact that they include land owner information in the app helps to gain access to smaller lakes that only have access through private land. Waypoints with different labels is awesome for marking potential spots that you’d like to fish, where you have landed that trophy fish or where you’ve landed your limit. Don’t sleep on this app. If you like to fish, onX Fish is a must have tool to add to your arsenal!

Worth every penny!! I’m so happy to finally find an app with substance instead of the gimmicky social posts and other fluff that a lot of apps push. OnX Fish is loaded with high quality abundance and stocking data and insights that actually help me find and catch the species I’m interested in. I’ve found several new lakes and new spots to fish. Rather than having to piece together information across a bunch of clunky websites, OnX has combined everything into an easy to understand app that I can use whether I’m planning on my couch or cruising in my boat. Super excited about using this for ice fishing!

This app is very useful in the aspect of giving you information on the species in a given body of water with just the click of a button. Although I would like to see an expansion upon the feature that allows you to save lakes I would implement a folder system that allows you to put different bodies of water in nameable folders like for example putting all of your crappie lakes in one folder and walleye lakes in another just to help with organization of your favorite lakes. Other than that I absolutely love this app.

The onX Fish app is the best app I’ve found with all the tools an angler would need in one spot. I appreciate the detailed maps that highlight fishing spots, water depths, and access points, making it easy to scout out the best areas. The app also provides up-to-date weather, water conditions, and fishing forecasts. I’m really looking forward to when they expand the app to more of the Midwest!

With this app anglers will be able to research new quality lakes to fish like never before. I’ve enjoyed playing around with it and realizing in the neighborhood I grew up in Otter Tail County is full of lakes I’ve never heard of that have trophy quality walleye, bass, and of course panfish but I had no idea the potential and I can’t wait to go check them out!

I always found that most fishing apps lack so many important features, this app seems to have everything I’m looking for. Contour maps, hot spot information, public access points, weather integration, way point marking, and so much more. It’s very customizable and super user friendly.

This app is absolutely incredible, from DNR lake surveys, topo maps, property lines to access points this app has every bit of information any serious angler would use. It’s replaced all my fishing apps and I cannot wait until more of the country is included! Congrats OnX on hitting it out of the park yet again!!!

The app is very easy to use and understand. The phone does not have any problems running this app unlike other fishing maps. It provides the user with a lot of information on the lake and the fish in the lake. I am very happy and will be recommending it to everyone that is interested!

I’ve played with this app quite a bit since launch. The interface is excellent, clean and easy to use. It’s been awesome for scouting out new lakes, and also saving spots where I’ve found fish. I’d definitely recommend spending a little time with it if you’re an angler in MN.

OnX Fish is the real deal! It helps identify top-producing lakes in your area and covers all sorts of species. Not to mention, their customer service is top notch. I was having an issue with my account, and Travis was super engaging and got everything taken care of. 100% recommend!

It’s a great app, even the free version is great, the depth charts are nice to have(included in free version) It is kind of annoying that they limit the knowledge of the private land owners to only the properties around the lakes, its included in everything else I’ve used from onX But otherwise 10/10

Every since I’ve downloaded it, I haven’t been able to get off of it. Looking at new lakes to fish and being able to see what fish are in different lakes and stocking/survey info is really neat. Definitely recommend this app!!

This app has worked great for me - the only thing I see missing is the lake bottom type info which is usually available on the DNR sites they pull the depth maps from. Would be great since that’s the only big piece of info I see missing.

Being able to break down a lake and find accessibility. Finding regulations. Stocking information so many more options to use!!! Highly recommend this App!!!!

Now with this app, and the subscription that is very cheap, I can go to my favorite spots and know which areas, and sometimes what lures to throw for whatever species. I do wish that they added more lure recommendations though. But great app!

For someone who’s in north central Minnesota, this app is very useful with how it consolidates lake research into one platform. There are a lot of lakes in my area and I really like to be able to quickly get the details on the status of the fisheries. Must have for avid anglers

This app has been very eye opening to see all the data on lakes in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. I’m enjoying exploring some bodies of water that I would not have gone to without seeing all the fish data. Thank you onX Fish!

When it comes to finding new places to fish, there’s no better tool. Having that species data and filters at your fingertips is so helpful.

This app works greats for finding new lakes, finding access’s on the lakes and who to get permission from if their is no public access. Also use it a lot to find out what species of fish are in lakes.

Apps is good but only if it can actually know your location and show surroundings lakes, river, streams that are public access and has fish plus more up to date info.

This app turned what used to be hours worth of research into minutes at your fingertips. So easy to navigate and find new bodies of water with exactly what you’re looking for!

Seen the app at the 2026 Minneapolis Ice fishing show. Now it’s my main tool. I have been able to teach my kids so much about lakes. Just chilling on the couch looking at lakes with the family! Thank you so much!

Helps break down new lakes like never before. Gets you on fish FASTER. I’ve been loving the app. I use it a lot in my down time to scout new bodies of water. Only thing I’m hoping for in the future are some IL maps.

This app is the best. Depth charts are great also really like the fish data. What’s in the lake and how many. Great to find new lakes and the access to them. Really like the satellite view of ice with the time lapse. Best most thought out app for fishing.

This app puts all DNR data into one spot. Makes the “know before you go” that much easier. User-friendly for anglers of all backgrounds. Highly recommend.

I use this quite a bit and I love it and all but a lot of the lakes contours are inaccurate by a couple of feet or just completely off, also wish they had more colors and waypoint designs

At this point, the app is in beta, so hopefully most of the wrinkles will be ironed out. But if they don’t make some major changes, I wouldn’t pay for it. The interface, which is the same as the other onX apps, is great. The mapping is not very good. Contour lines on lake maps are low resolution and not very accurate. The property lines are not as well defined as onX hunt. The area insights are basic, but in my experience, quite accurate. While being able to search for fishing spots is great, the search does not seem to be very good. It misses some lakes that fit your criteria but includes others that don’t. My biggest problem with the app is that the fish survey data is not well presented. It doesn’t match lengths to abundance data, and just presents the best data available. This makes lakes with unstable fish populations look way better than they actually are. Hopefully they improve this app, because it is definitely unique in its approach, but it needs some major work yet before I pay for it.

Just saw an news article about this app and thought I would give it a try. Has great info and seems easy to use however haven’t figured out how to add a “numbered” spot to a map and include the details/onfo that exist on some lakes but not all. To that point it seems that only lakes with fish info include lake contour lines for all WI which seems odd. Knowing the app is still in development I’m hopeful that that changes in future updates. Also seems to be lacking ice fishing info but also guessing that’s coming in future updates. I will for sure be using the app this ice season and see how it goes. Hence 3 star review at this time.

I tried this app for awhile when it was free, thought I’d try again now that more data is compiled, but alas it’s more or less unchanged. One thing to note is that the topo map isn’t always 1-to-1 with the map on the Garmin, and the Garmin one was accurate to the sonar. Another thing to consider is that they’re using DNR information which is accessible for free. The only “premium” feature is that it’s all compiled into a convenient app, which I would use, except I’ve learned that I can’t rely on the topo maps so what’s the point?

Dan • April 18, 2025”. It’s been this way since 2025, so you can pretty much expect nothing new for well over a year, meaning probably longer. I initially signed up because my ford app told me I had a year free, unfortunately I didn’t notice that the app only supported a minuscule scale of the country (ESPECIALLY compared to other apps that do the same), but it was too late by the time I realized. Even if it wasn’t for free, the price and the incredible lack of support for some of the most fished places in the county “California, Oregon, Washington” is downright disrespectful almost.

Contour lines aren’t the most accurate compared to others also doesn’t have a lot of lakes the fish survey is a great tool but if your local dnr doesn’t have an updated survey it’s not even close to accurate they should also add the survey date as well to give a good idea of what the population is actually like definitely not worth the asking price but with paying for on x hunt you should get a discount for having a onX fish account definitely sticking with one boat app

Just as the title says, I believe this app can be an amazing tool far greater than navionics with having lake data mapping and all the other other features in one but some lakes have no data that should and when using the filter for trophy fish lakes to that specific species I feel it just picks everyone in that area you are looking. Like I said a lot of potential but really needs to be cleaned up and put together properly.

I downloaded the free trial. After exploring, I found that the app lacks water depth for my area, which is South East Michigan. The topo is so broad that it shows pretty much all coast line off Lake Eerie as 3ft, and the inland lakes in the area don’t even show depth. I enjoy ice fishing, and I’m looking for an app that shows me drop offs, but this app says there’s none. I know that they’re there because I know the coastline, just unfortunate this app isn’t that detailed.

Contours are king in a fishing app. Some lakes look ok, others are just blue. Mille Lacs looks usable, Leech does not. I would shift all development focus to getting contours right, and put all the gimmicks on the back burner. I would gladly make the switch to this app just for the car play feature alone, if I could trust the mapping. The visuals and 3D view are going to knock it out of the park when it’s up to par. I’ll be back when it’s ready!

Zoom is either too far out, or too far in, there is no in between. Topo lines are hard to see when using hybrid layer. You will still have to pay for upgraded version even if you have upgraded versions of other onX apps. Paid Upgraded versions really don’t offer enough features to make it worth paying for!

I love the OnX hunt platform, and really looked forward to trying this app so I could start compiling my fishing data all in one place. A lot of my fishing starts with identifying mid-lake structure that holds fish, Unfortunately the contours on this app lack critical detail and don’t seem to match any other data I have, causing me to have to switch between multiple apps to compare my personal data with contours. Im fairly disappointed and will be cancelling my subscription.

I live in Northern MN so that is where I primarily fish. You are missing over half of the lakes that Navionics has maps for but you do not. Why would I pay $35/ year for maps for only most of the big lakes. I expect more from OnX. Not less. This is app is disappointing until you have all of the maps. The DNR has them available. I won’t use this anymore until they cover all the lakes.

Has great potential… I love OnX HUNT and I’m sure FISH is in its early development stages… BUT the most important feature an app like this needs is detailed depth contours. I have to imagine that’s coming, and I’m sure Navionics charges an arm and a leg to use their contour maps but that is a must-have. Add Navionics-quality, detailed depth contours, I’ll pay for it and add two more stars to my review.

This app has great potential, but for Michigan and the lack of surveys that our DNR does the app is worthless! If our DNR would step up and take care of our fisheries better, this app might be worth paying for…but as long as this app is dependent upon the Michigan DNR, it’s going to be half useless! it doesn’t even show me where I can find the DNR boat launches!

I have used a lot of mapping for many decades. I was hoping on X Fish would have the level of detail that could help you make decisions on where to go to zoom in on exact structure. They simply are not there yet. It will help with general information, but does not get you very detailed contours. Easy to use however. Interaction is great. Just need better maps.

Sent in a ticket about crooked lake and Pickerel Lake being named wrong (Petoskey MI) and no change. I liked the layout but this app doesn’t really offer anything different from the fishing app I already have. Maybe when that one expires I’ll give it another chance?

I thought I would get better contour detail with this map and I was a little disappointed or I wasn’t able to find out how to enhance the contour lines on the map. Either way I have other maps that show contour lines of 1 foot.

I tried this app out when it was being offered for free for onX hunt elite members. The app had very little information in pertaining to individual lakes. And would give a broad overview or nothing at all. The maps are the only feature but would often be drastically different than reality. Depth charts were also wrong. I have switched to a different mapping software.

The depth contours on two lakes in MN were way off… the maps show 10’+ depths intersecting the shore and the depth spots I fished were not well represented (double digits off compared to what I was measuring). There is a lot of features that are helpful (searching lakes by fish survey datab as an example) and a few that show promise.

They still have a long ways to go with their mapping. Contours on Mille Lacs are not good. Update: Thanks for your response. It’s difficult to use as a planning tool if the depth ranges can’t be trusted. It is still a good tool for tracking your path. And I like that it hooks up to car play.

Love how easy On X hunting is to use, but On X Fish needs to update their lake maps if they want to seriously compete with the other navigation apps out there (CMAP, Humminbird, Navionics). Currently not worth the price with the lack of quality lake maps. If that changes, though, it will be up there as one of the best!
