** Not your keys, not your coins **
Proton Wallet creates your wallet using a BIP39 standard seed phrase, ensuring seamless recovery and interoperability with other self-custodial wallets, including hardware wallets. This also means you can easily import existing wallets or recover your Proton wallets on other services.
Your encryption keys and wallet data are protected with end-to-end encryption, so no one else — not even Proton — can access them. Bitcoin transactions are permanent and there's no bank you can call if you make a mistake. Copying the wrong 26-character Bitcoin address can be catastrophic. Proton Wallet's unique Bitcoin via Email feature means you only need to verify another Proton Wallet user's email instead, reducing the likelihood of errors. Each BTC address is cryptographically signed with PGP by the recipient's app, ensuring that it belongs to the recipient.
** Keep transactions and balances private **
Due to our incorporation in Switzerland, your data is protected by some of the world's strictest privacy laws. We also minimize data on servers by encrypting all transaction metadata (including amounts, senders, recipients, and notes) on user devices. Each time you receive BTC from someone with Bitcoin via Email, we automatically rotate your BTC addresses, protecting your privacy and making it difficult to connect your transactions on the public blockchain.

UtilityWell the wallet serves its purpose quite well to just store and keep bitcoin safe. It would be awesome if it would calculate ur average cost and gains for you. The transferring fees that you pay whenever transferring crypto from wallet to wallet is not horrible and it’s worth it if you’re paranoid about asset security. In my opinion it would be cool if they added more mechanics like being able to buy crypto (LINK, BTC, ADA) through the app but for the sole purpose of keeping ur bitcoin safe I’d give it a 9/10. I combined it with a password manager and used all the extra safety precautions but I feel like it could still be more secure. I’m a fully integrated proton user. I use all their products and like every other project done by them, it’s amazing :). Hope to see a bank/card wallet or something like it soon!.Version: 1.2.6

Good start. Needs Improvements.It’s that Proton created this wallet. It does exactly what it’s suppose to do. However, the app needs several improvements. 1) Security: Finger Print & 2FA are the only methods in regards to add more security in order to open the app, etc. I would like to see Passcode & physical security key (Yubikey) support added. 2) Crashes: When attempting to set up or look at the recovery phrase, the app crashes multiple times. I’m using an IPhone 14 Pro, with updated app and software. Still crashes. Same thing happens on the web version. — These suggestions I mentioned seem to me like they should be standard in any self custodial wallet..Version: 1.1.0

Pleasantly Surprised; Some Comprehensive ThoughtsWhen the wallet was announced I was immediately skeptical about this route - Bitcoin custodial wallet from Proton? I remember the history with Bitcoin as much as with Proton over the decade but I like others know the basic truth about cryptocurrency is that your keys are yours or else they are not your coins. Else you have custodial wallets running away with your coins and so on. Proton having this kind of setup threw me off as it’s custodial in a more “zero-knowledge” kind of way between you and Proton. So Proton is basically protecting you and themselves with PGP encryption about how much you have with their wallet while also offerring the seeds to export your wallet to your own secure custody (or feel inclined to import it to Proton Wallet). There was also the complicated turmoil that Proton’s steering too off course about privacy products when Bitcoin itself isn’t exactly a private network by any means - but Monero as the real privacy king out there also has a bounty. Federal restrictions everywhere against custodial wallets holding Monero (don’t forget that Proton HAS to be compliant to governments to be a business). So as someone with just a bit of experience getting things wrong and right in cryptocurrencies: this is a solid start for the game. The Bitcoin over email function is basically a direct “Zelle” layer and it simply works. You’re free to have as many wallets as you want and thankfully as a general golden tip Proton advises you to save your seeds away from simply counting on them to hold it because your wallet simply isn’t Proton’s to keep or store - it’s yours. It’s a good backup knowing PGP is battle tested and hardened but counting on yourself to back it up should Proton ever lose the wallet or even go under is true cryptocurrency sovereignty as it’s believed. The app’s smooth, very simple and somewhat intuitive on the basic features Bitcoin has (sending and receiving) like being able to choose what kind of Bitcoin protocol you want for any extra wallets and adding your own passphrase for separate wallets. Individual wallets unbound from email addresses get some flexibility allowing you to have a segwit or taproot wallet, with a clear enough description as to what you get and what tradeoffs they basically have. Only complaint from me is the lack of a dark mode. Would I recommend this app to people with Bitcoin wallets? Not totally, especially people who value their sovereignty and already feel secure with their wallets and or cold storages. There’s a further sovereignty to consider but by thay point it’s talking about XMR over Bitcoin and that’s not the topic. I WOULD recommend this as a good custodial WALLET for a beginner in Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general. My only other note would be for Proton to quit falsely conjugating the encryption for the Proton account contents for the wallet with things they literally can’t control from the Bitcoin blockchain in general. It’s a false sense of security on that front that Bitcoin transactions are encrypted by Proton - they are encrypted by Proton for Proton. The transactions are still there on the blockchain but any outsider would have to know your addresses. So the generative addresses are a welcome bonus. Overall, a good app..Version: 1.0.7
Works goodAlways found Proton Wallet to be a random app they released to their suite of products. Overall it works great…just wish that they had an option to make it more of a digital wallet outside of just bitcoin. Having features that allowed for daily card transactions, and other crypto would be really handy. Overall, the app has been a great resource for bitcoin at the very least..Version: 1.2.7
