Just like every other federal government app this one is overbuilt and modified over a foundation of basic missions. I find this app to be very helpful in losing weight, increasing stamina, balance, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. But! I’ve had to be flexible and adapt my info inputs to the basic app framework. Once I adapted and adjusted my input on the fly, the app exactly what I wanted it to be. At this point I confess that I worked as a Chef for 35 years so the dietary section of this app holds no mystery for me. I was very health conscious in my youth, keeping fit with stretching, and weight training programs that I still adhere to. I played a LOT of beer league softball and still bike my way back and forth to appointments. The physical work and calorie burn rates are no mystery to me either. Using the rest of this app successfully requires a little ingenuity and a LOT of common sense. I have completed the majority of the MOVE! Sections and have restarted them twice now. Doing so authorizes my use of VA physical therapy exercise facilities to maintain and improve my physical well being. I turned 70 this year and using this app may help me make 80+ a healthy possiblity. So quit complaining, stop seeing everything in black and white, use your intellect with cleverness, and mold this app to fit your needs and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how helpful and easy it is to use.
Over the last year I have lost 30 lbs and I owe that to this app. I have struggled with my weight for more than a decade, never being able to drop weight, but when I started using this app to track calories and my weight I started seeing progress. The app definitely has its flaws and plenty of room for improvement, but it ended up being the little bit extra I needed to get me shedding weight. Problems/areas of improvement: - Search function for meal tracker is not very good. It takes a bit of time to figure out the regional name for some foods and there are also many foods not included. I started finding something close in description, with higher calories, and putting that in the diet log. A QR scanner would be a nice improvement to remedy this. - Activity tracker was not very useful for me. I ended up using the iPhone app instead. This may be because I was already familiar with that app.
I lost 41 lbs. with the app. It works! My only suggestion is that the Diet Diary allow one to enter calories for things eaten the day before. Every time you wait till after midnight to enter a late dinner, it will not allow an entry for it.
I like using the tracking program on Move Coach, but it needs to be updated, as there is a lot of guessing about type foods, how to break a casserole down. Also what would be a BIG help would include a scanner to scan foods when grocery shopping.
I set a goal to lose 20 lbs and ended up losing 25. Feel much better after this program blood sugar is u see better control and feel good getting out and moving.

My weight data reset after 6 months. Is there a way to retrieve all of my information? I liked monitoring and sharing my graph progress. Now it starts over at my more current weight.
I have found this app extremely helpful and user friendly! I have used it over the past 1 1/2 with my weight loss journey towards my Gastric Sleeve surgery. Thank you VA for creating such a great tool for us Veterans!
Move has helped me stay motivated during the past 4 months. I’ve had some setbacks, but move helped me power through them.
Fine program for Tracking food
Move Coach is crashing at ‘Week Two...Chapter Two.’
Lots of options and easy to navigate.
A tablet version would be most helpful. TY
With the aid of the MOVE! Coach app I have made excellent improvement with increased physical activity and healthier eating.
MOVE! Coach Negative Reviews and Ratings
This is a good app, but there is room for improvement. First, there is no way to change the date of what you are trying to enter. When i was entering my meals from yesterday it put them on today because it was after midnight when i finished inputting the data. Second, the exercise calorie count is very generic. I have a treadmill that does incline up to 11 degrees and that drastically changes the calories burned during the workout. There is also no way to set how fast you were going. In 30 minutes of walking at 5.5 km/h on a 7 degree incline i burned 196 calories with a distance of 2.74km. This app only gave me credit for around 130 calories. And third when choosing what our meals are it would be helpful if we could select what items were used. For instance my meal last night was spaghetti macaroni with lean ground pork. I also sprinkled some parmesan cheese on it. But there is no way that i see to edit the entry. I’ll give this app a 3 star for now. If you upgrade the app and make it better I”ll revisit my review.
I’m an AD service member testing out government made health apps for my own health journey. The biggest plus I see with this one is that the app allows you to add your own customized foods info like macros and nutritional values. Most other apps have that behind the premium features. The bad things I’ve seen; half of screen is permanently taken up by crisis support. It makes the interface annoying because when I search for something the crisis banner takes up 1/8 of the screen the search bar takes up another 1/8 and the keyboard takes up 1/3 at the bottom. I’m scrolling at one line at a time while other apps allow ten items to be in the search area at once. The servings are pretty strict, I would like more conversation to make it easier for me to give a better estimate when count calories. Also a barcode scanner would be helpful.
Ok, I tried it for 2 weeks - until I discovered that the Move! App was “charging” me more than double the calories on my carton of almond milk. And entering a recipe is impossible, because the app assumes that the whole freaking recipe is 1 serving - like, 1,000 calories for a recipe that serves 8. I couldn’t possibly eat the whole thing! It also seems overwhelmingly weighted in favor of fast food, not homemade, fresh food unless you want to enter every single ingredient separately. In single serving portions. Was it a good idea? Absolutely. Too bad the execution didn’t come close to measuring up. The “favorites” function is all but useless. Oh, yeah. I had to download an additional app to track my blood pressure - which, for some of us, is kind of a big deal. You might think that’s not much trouble, but, trust me, it is.
The app does not allow for entering exactly what I ate. Ex: I had an Arby’s Grand Turkey sandwich, it has bacon but I cannot add it. In addition, the calories allotted were either higher or lesser than what I ate. Having the list available is helpful but I need to be able to customize my diet entry. Like another user that stated they needed the ability to edit the dates of dietary entries. I too made the mistake of completing my entries after midnight and was unable to change it. We need the capability to enter data at our convenience and to customize those entries.
I’m new. I put in my food, but #1. Couldn’t see the entire option. Example: Egg omelet with cheese, made with… I clicked on it to see what came after the …, margarine, oil, butter, etc., but it just added it as an entry. #2. Once it was added as an entry for breakfast, I could not delete it. Info button didn’t help either. I deleted the app. Very frustrating! #3. I am noticing that the responses are toward positive reviews, and a few other “solution” suggestions. I did not see responses to people that had real issues with questions like mine. #4. Makes me wonder if the responses are Ai generated, based upon key words in each review. Please explain each of my concerns.
There are a couple of foods that I had to figure out how to custom add as well as a couple that I forgot to add from the previous day. The app would not let me change the date to add from a previous date. This is irritating as I am trying to keep an accurate record of calories and progress. Please fix this.
The program is good and it does help track the calories and activity. However, when trying to add a custom item when it gets to the screen that asks if I want to enter additional information I can’t see anything because the screen to enter numbers is in the way and no way to hide it.
Very frustrating to use. I have tried numerous times to a Vance through the modules. I enter all my data and respond to the prompts. Get through several of the modules then it crashes! When I restart the app from Home Screen all my data is gone and requires me to start from beginning. Thought it was just my iPhone but I loaded on iPhone 7 with same results. Won’t try to use it anymore. What a shame.
I just tried using the app for the first time after downloading it a couple weeks ago. When setting up your information you can’t even see the information that you are trying to select. It took some trial and error to enter my height. Forget entering your age. I couldn’t even see what number I selected because it doesn’t show up on the screen at all.
Very frustrating in seeing app has not been updated for nearly a year, this explains a lot. Calculations are sporadic and report incorrect results on data retrieved. Weekly diet report is very annoying when trying to report to nutritionist weekly activity. Please update app so it can be used as it has the potential to be.
The food categories don’t really match the labels on packages for calories. It is also difficult to find specific foods. There is no way to manually enter calories. Also if you enter information you can not edit. The app just really crashed in the food category’s. I just can’t recommend this app. It is just not reliable
I don’t know how to report issues with the app. I called the number in the help section and they are putting in a ticket. I have an iPhone XR. When I click on Self Assessment Guide Week 2, #2-How to read food labels, the app just closes. The rest of the section works.
This app has serious potential upside! Unfortunately it does not function on my phone (15 pro max). Please assign or hire app developers in the IT department. I want to get in shape, and stay in shape, without worsening my disabilities. I will gladly change my review rating when I see noticeable improvements, and I’m not giving up on you!
Difficult to enter some foods. Entered my breakfast at 190 calories but the graph showed my breakfast at 1400 calories. Adding activities won’t let you enter smaller increments of time. Difficulty editing recipes.
I wanted to use the app primarily as a food tracker. But I went to input my meal and couldn’t input simply skinless chicken breast... All options were for breaded. I cooked green beans and chicken with some coconut oil, nothing complicated. The app should allow custom entries, so I can find the calorie/fat amount on WolframAlpha and just input the data.
I have been using this program for months but today both diet and activity is gone from the app, what happened? This is really screwing up my progress please help with this.
I was tracking my active and calorie intact each day. It really helped. In the new update they removed it. Now it basically useless because it just the book online with less information. Would give zero stars.
When I first ran the app I was invited to enter my height weight and age. Although ICould get to the screen there was no option to enter my height for my age. The app decided that I was 8’6” tall. Once I moved past that I found that many of the menu prompts are dark text on a dark background and for myself they’re completely unreadable.
The app isn’t too bad in of itself. It would be better if you could incorporate other tracker apps, so that you don’t have to double track everything. Connect with Health app would be ideal
Great free tool to keep me accountable each day and lose weight. But the app in iPhone is very difficult to use, as everything is squished on the screen.
This app used to be user friendly, but now it’s garbage. Even looking online to try and use it doesn’t help. This app had previously helped me lose weight, but now it’s just very disappointing.
This app suffers from neglect. It regularly crashes on my iPhone 6s Plus running iOS 13.3 current version. The only way to let the developers know about app bugs is through the VA MOVE! program, rather than directly contacting the devs.
App breaks at week 12 chapter 2. Will repeatedly shut down the app. Also. The app isn’t all that helpful and the lack of anyone to report this bug to is a huge oversight. Essentially a wasted effort so that the VA can pretend they tried to do something.
Good news you only lose two weeks of effort, bad news you lose two week of effort. Try and complete week two and send day material crashes the app
I doesn’t an hour going through the manuals and the videos and every corner of this app trying to find where I can add my meals and exercises…and nothing shows except to add my weight!? Super frustrating.
Why did you remove the diet and physical activity diary? It was a crucial and important part of the weight loss plan. Calorie management is what made it work. My friend lost 74 pounds using this system. We are both deleting the app because it no longer suits our needs.
Ok delivery tool for the training models, but the food entry/tracking is far far behind peers. Check out “my fitness pal” for an example what what this app Should look like. Thanks
I have been using “my fitness pal” app. It is a good app but the MOVE app has really good tool to add food. It has all you need. If this app could link to ‘my fitness pal” it would be great....
The app is ok , however it has some bugs in it. For one you can’t unlock Module 16 even after going through every single module. You can’t unlock the last module 16. I am using an iPhone 11 Pro Max with IOS 14.1. Please fix it. Then I will update my review.
No way to back up in certain areas, have to close and reopen the app to back up. Overall, not great.
App was may be don’t for very old iPhones need update and easy way to go back
You can’t use this app because screens like entering your goal weight have no way to exit the screen or submit your answer.
This is a good, basic health app. However, it could be so much better with integration with My Healthy Vet AND the IOS Health app.
Started using this app in February 2020. It really worked when you could document weight, food intake and exercise data. Lost the diet and exercise diaries in October 2020. Not much good anymore. Bring those back please.
Why would you take out diet and activities tracker. That was the best part of the application and now it’s not worth the data to send my review. Completely trash now.
Please update app to allow for Apple Watch Health from iPhone to be loaded directly into app for ease of use and tracking of activity.
Typical VA DYI! There are several good apps that could be used for this program. VA chooses not to pay the going freight. Instead hires someone who can’t do the job. Penny wise and pound poor! As usual vets get the short end.
