I had lots of errors, then noticed the twist lock was not locked into all the way. You connect then plug then, there is a plastic nut that you twist all the way till it stop. Then I was unable to sign in, almost every day, the only way in was to register again as an administrator. I had lots of administrators, until I deceived to backup and disconnect\delete the app, and then reconnect|reinstall fresh! Everything went fine for 2days, until it happened again! You feel like you lost all your data, that’s how it is when you register for the first time.
I like this eLog more than keeptruckin (motive), but it has an annoying issue. If you forget to leave yard move it won’t automatically switch you to on duty or allow you to edit. Problem with that is you’re losing hours on your 70 and falsifying logs. Need an option to return to sleeper if you forget. If you stop driving or stop personal conveyance it goes on duty, but not from yard move. Need fixed ASAP.
So far so good but yes, you do have to plug in a USB stick every seven days and back up your data and sometimes depending on where you are I guess the data connection turns off. I have my audit coming up sometime before April and after reading one of the reviews about the CSV file, I am a little concerned, but that was four years ago, so I’m hoping that Garmin has fixed that problem
It’s a really bad equipments, why Because it’s disconnected from your truck with no reason and all data in it’s eld is disappeared and not any more available to review it This happens with me several times with no reason, I never disconnected it from my Truck and when that’s happened so you need to download garmin elog again and start over as a new user Not recommend
I like using Garmin elog, but there is one issue that needs fixing. When you go Off Duty for more than 1 day it doesn't let you certify those off duty days. I have received DOT violation for not having those Off Duty days certified. Please fix this issue so that those off duty days can be certified also. Thanks.

This has been such a great and easy to use E Log App. I use it in my Peterbilt with the electronic plug in and I also use it in my F550. However there is no plug in for the F550 so I just use the app to log my hours. It’s very easy to use and super simple to set up! I highly recommend this for an E Log!
Good as far as connecting and logging in and out but the only thing if u forget to go off duty and is far away from truck u won’t log out properly and will have violated depending on how long you been driving or apps been running
The only has to improve, the option to modify is we was in the wrong operation for example if we was in duty intead of personal convenience or off duty, because sometimes forgot to change status and is imposible to modify the previous log
Best eLog out there. THE APP AND ENGINE PORT IS DOT COMPLIANT. I love it because I don’t have to pay a monthly subscription. Why do that when your driving info can be kept right on your phone or a flash drive. The eLog is great for owner operator who don’t have a fleet. DOT INSPECTIONS ARE A BREEZE. Your log recap is easily accessible from your phone.
It not only gets the job done efficiently, it's the most cost saving eLog on the market, with no subscription. Everything else has gone to subscription so companies can continue to take your money, but thankfully Garmin has not done that.
I have been using the device and app for at least two years and have found no issues or problems. Buy it once and no monthly payments. It’s more than paid for itself.
Loving the app and it works great for what you need it for. The only thing that I don’t like is that when you’re out of hours you can’t explain that you’re trying to get close too a safe haven to park or do a reset.
The adapter from time to time has issues connecting with the truck. But other than that this unit is great. I’ve been using it for just over 2 years and haven’t had any issues with DOT.
Well I’ve read a few horror stories but this isn’t one of them! I’m have a great experience with mines and plus no recurring payments is the best part. Now if only they can kick it up a notch and do the state to state mileage and border crossings for fuel taxes then it will be supreme!
After using this for a year now I can say I’m content enough with it. It took me a while to figure out some of the operations but now I’m good with it. The yard move function automatically changes to driving status around 20 mph, you’ve been warned.
The app works good. It’s free unlike most other ELDs. It does disconnect from the device (Garmin DEZL) I have and my phone more often than I’d like and it’s a pain to try to reconnect. Other than that it’s really simple to use and like I said before, it’s free.
No subscription but some functionality is limited and not real easy to understand. I wish there was more functionality to the administrator.
Once you have learned the app, the amount of money that these companies want to charge you is crazy from motive to Sam Sarah you’re gonna love this app just pay attention to how to run it. Thanks again.
I really like this eld, but can you guys put an option to see on duty hours available today? It will be great if we can see how many hours we have left for the day.
Had to get this for myself. Haven’t been asked by DOT yet but seems to work just fine. Have had a couple issues, Garmin fixed a couple, still one ongoing. They’ll probably fix it eventually.
The app is not the most user friendly. It takes a little bit of a learning curve. However, for the price of the ELD and no monthly subscriptions it is worth it.
Its doing great for me, the fact of no subscriptions payment is awesome, is easy to use, I recommend highly One last thing to improve: 14hrs shift is not there and would be perfect of we can see it along with the other clocks Thanks Garmin!!
Hello, everyone and hello to all garmin team members, amazing work on building this app, never had any issues, so easy to use, hopefully you guys will keep this as easy and simple, thank you
I used motive for years loved it.. then I started my own company and got to see the price of it. Now I’m using Garmin 1 time payment sold. So far it’s been easy to figure out
It doesn’t allow you to chose it to do the Split Log option. Also in Texas, we are allowed to do 15 hours On Duty, 12 Hours Driving, 8 Hours Reset
Had trouble with not being able to log in with password for a while but is working now.
It’s easy to use and I don’t have to pay monthly for service I bought it two years ago for $200 and have been using it since then
I’m so happy with this app I don’t have to pay nobody. I back up my data saved in my computer and I’ll set thank you very much Garmin I love you
I’ve been used by 3 years now, with the updates its getting better every time. Just buy it and connect to your personal device, that’s it. Simple. No monthly payment at all.
I have been using this app for 3 months now and I so far so good. Juts make sure to make a fielder to save logs apart just in case
I’m using garmin Eld and it’s very easy to use and I can email my daily log and Pretrip inspection to my email for backup records
Garmin ELD is a devise that gives you the freedom to manage your business without the extra fees and anions of feeling with a second party.
Why pay when this is free and it works amazing. Thank you garmin for not charging for your service
The support team is always friendly and helpful!
Sooo good - I don’t want to pay for a subscription, I don’t want to hard wire anything into my truck, easy to use & keeps me legal
Garmin ELog™ Negative Reviews and Ratings
Used in a 2023 International LT. it would make up odometer readings not matching the actual Odometer. It does not have odometer segment readings like Keep Trucking has. Trailer number and BOL number would not populate in reports generated even though it was entered correctly in the tab. Logging out for team driving is not obvious and ripe for logging errors. You can not transfer incorrect drive from one driver to the other. It did not come with the DOT Inspection directions card. Took some time to locate the PDF to print since this is an FMCSA requirement to have on hand. Biggest problem, you can’t download logs to save unless the thing is plugged into a truck. This was the only option at the Truckstop to use in a rental truck. It’s not great. It is not compliant. If I knew how bad this was, I would have over nighted the JJ KELLER or the Blue Ink device. This device is no replacement for a real ELD Device. I wouldn’t recommend for any long term use.
It only has hours until break, hours of drive left, hours available tomorrow, and hours available in week. Nothing for how long until your 14 hours is up which is frustrating, it also changes to off duty sometimes when you were in off duty personal conveyance so when you start driving again it switches you to on duty driving. Otherwise a decent app I haven’t had any other problems.
It works decent but can definitely can be updated especially on the location and odometer marker I always have to be writing these if updated can save time and headaches. Also if you mark persona convenience and don’t move faster then 5 miles can’t change it to sleeper or off duty which it’s so inconvenient for sleeper split choices
First the app would crash and I would have to Reenter all my admin and driver information, I was able to fix that by saving it a jump drive and back up data but then came the government audit and the CSV file wouldn’t upload to Garmin eLog Web Portal. Called support and they ‘created a file’ Leaving me hanging! Very Frustrating! Support said they were having a small amount of ‘cases’ and no one could help me that day. Do not buy this product! It’s a scam! Garmin needs to pull this product off the shelves!
I doubt they talked with many drivers when it came to the user interface. I found it to be clunky not very intuitive. I also believe it is a huge mistake to lock out the application until you buy and install the Bluetooth adapter. People want to test this type of app BEFORE dropping $150 on the adapter. Luckily I borrowed an adapter from a friend so I could tryout the app. I’m glad I didn’t waste my money on buying the adapter.
Words can’t explain how much I hate this app and the piece of junk eLog device. Ever since I’ve bought it and used this app it’s nothing but issues one after another. First off the eLog doesn’t even read my miles on my truck. Secondly I have times where it acts like it’s disconnected. Lastly this has happened more then once it wants to erase all my information with my logs and reports now I have to literally start over with new logs I have no driving history or nothing try explaining that to a Dot or cop
If you try to edit on this app, all it will do is tell you the time isn’t valid. I forgot to change it from not driving over a day. Spent 2 hours trying to update my log. Gave up and declared it malfunctioning. Got audited at a weigh station. Officer said garmin is trash - I showed him the issue. All it does is tell you the time isn’t valid, whether you try to add a new log entry or update an existing one. Returning since this isn’t made properly
I have this garming Eld. App looks outdated. The features are outdated. You need a usb stick to get your data of the eld. Why can’t the information get save in the tablet automatically? I hate that weekly I’ll have to plug an usb to get my data of. When you edit a log date, driver needs to accept it, im tired of accepting it and it still there. Garmin really needs to address this issues and the outdated looks on the app
We have been back and forth with Garmin over troubleshooting the odometer readings. Some days it will say I have driven 600,000 miles, others 6. The app is easy to use but in the 4 trucks I have tried it in it will not function correctly and I do not want to be put out of service because of it. If they can fix the issues then 5 stars but right now it is nothing more than a paperweight.
Cheapest elog available but I don’t like the fact you can’t see your available hours left in your shift. It only shows your drive hours. Also, the split sleeper exception rule only activates if you do the longer rest first rather than the shorter one. Other log books give the option 2/8, 3/7 or 8/2, 7/3.
When logging out, the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner of the screen is so difficult to trigger. Used several devices and all do the same thing. Would be nice to figure out what causes it. Other than that, great app!!
My driver needs a reliable eld with a functioning app, but this is not it. It works fine most days but then suddenly it forgets your login, logs you out, and keeps crashing not letting you access anything. My driver now has to reinstall the app and lose his past 7 logs. He has to risk being fined for not having the logs of the past week because of this unreliable app.
Used to work just fine but for the past 6 months I’ve been having to delete, re-install and restore the app from a previous back up because when I need to start my week the app won’t even let me login. 6 months and they haven’t fix this issue for iPhone. Looking for a different ELOG now.
IPad mini 6 is listed but is not actually compatible or available for download on the mini 6th gen. I bought the iPad because it was listed as working and I’m very disappointed in the lack of oversight on Garmin’s behalf. I need this for DOT compliance and now need to find an alternative solution. Heads up to anyone thinking of buying the iPad mini 6.
About every week it keeps deleting my account and I have to creat new ones and it’s very frustrating this morning when I logged in and drive after about an hour it said deactivated and again have to create a new account
It doesn’t work on my new iPhone but works on my old iPhone 5. Keeps crashing and deleting driver profile causing me to have to delete the app and lose logs and reinstall to set up driver profile again. The app needs to be fixed, completely broken.
If you are a driver that crosses the Canada/US border frequently, Garmin’s support page says to just track your own hours, even though the app’s going to throw violations at you. What a wonderful thing to show the scale officials during an inspection. “Oh sorry officer, my log doesn't support Canadian hours.” I’ve complained, expressed the benefit for their customers, and an edge over their competitors if they would add the missing rulesets, but each time receive a quick but form-letter response. I’d give them a 4 for a solid product, but for support, I have to give a 2.
Garmin should be ashamed of their products. I’ve owned two of their Dezl gps units which are mediocre at best. PC’s from the 80’s are faster than these over priced gadgets they sell. With a name like garmin you’d expect quality, reliability and speed. Being a sucker for punishment I bought the garmin elog device thinking how bad can it be. Oh lord, just when you think things can’t get worse oh they do! I thought there’s no way the tech developers at garmin could screw things up any worse and yet they did. This elog is horrendous, sure it connects fine and the actual device has fancy lights but it starts sounding off alarms for reasons still unknown. The app layout along with the way you have to navigate your way around to try and start a pretrip safety is just nuts. It’s far from simple and so very far from user friendly. 3 different times in less than 5 minutes the app either crashed or froze up me. My patience only allowed me about 25min of playing around before I gave up and packaged it up. They proudly promote the device as “subscription free” but what good is subscription free if it’s not useable. I also read bad reviews about trying to get customer service and honestly I didn’t want to frustrate myself anymore so I didn’t bother. You can’t fix a poorly developed app, plain and simple. I’ll definitely be sticking with my Motive ELD. Sure it’s a little pricey but customer service has been great and the functionality and and both app and web service are spot on. Never a glitch and so easy to navigate. I can go on duty, create truck and trailer pretrip safety in less than 30seconds. Everything else for the rest of the day requires no attention from me, it just works
