DJI Fly App Comments & Reviews

DJI Fly Positive Reviews

Limited Manual Camera SettingI love all things DJI. The Air 2 is a vast improvement over the original Mavic AIR. However, I don’t like that it requires a dedicated app and, therefore, not compatible with the DJI Go4 app. More bothersome is the lack of manual controls over the camera. Specifically, one cannot change the aperture, which on the Mavic Air 2 is fixed at f2.8. You can bracket the exposure up to 2 stops. Moreover, the user cannot set ISO. The only function one can control manually is shutter speed. This is all great for one who wants to shoot in auto, and focus on flying. But, if one wants creative control over the look and feel of images and video, this is not the drone. One would have to buy the Mavic Pro. This drone is fun to fly, and the new Mavic Air 2S has some interesting new features, chief among which is a 1” CMOS censor. This is great for low light conditions and much sharper images and video, as well as more dynamic range. Still, manual camera controls are limited to selecting shutter speed..Version: 1.4.3

Easy to use but many features missing, please update this app!I love DJI products. Hands downs the best for your money you’ll get. Especially with the Mavic air 2. Love the drone, have no problems with it, and I love the app, very easy to navigate but there’s a ton of features missing that would make things so much easier to use. The gimbal speed and smoothness needs to be updated. It’s pretty hard to get a smooth shot when rotating that wheel and there’s no way to change that. Add a few more shortcuts on the front screen and make use of the FN button as a triple click for all 3 options! Also the sounds on the remote are very loud and obnoxious at times, if there’s a way to lower the volume for that, it would help a ton. Adding 4K to every option would be amazing too! Lastly I would highly suggest using more of the features from the previous app integrated onto this new app! DJI, if you’re reading this, I love you and love your products but please adjust your app to make flying a much pleasant one. I, and a few others will re-rate your app to 5 stars if these fixes are done! Anyways happy flying everyone! :).Version: 1.1.3

Great beginner appThis is a wonderful app for beginner drone operators. I just got my first drone and found this app straightforward and easy to fly my Mavic Mini. The app has everything that a novice operator would need to fly their drone without feeling overwhelmed with the telemetry data. The quick shots feature is especially helpful with getting very cinematic looking footage of the subject with just a couple taps in the app. I am (mostly) happy with what DJI has done with this app. There are however shortcomings. First, the quickshots are very limited in scope. Few other quick shots would have been nice. Also there is no subject tracking feature so the subject has to be stationary for the drone to capture them in quick shots. Thirdly, the RTH height is buried in the menus. Would be nice if I could set the RTH height prior to each flight depending on the surroundings I am flying in. I honestly think DJI should implement an advanced mode in the app that operator could switch to as they become more experienced. Hopefully they will continue to improve the functionality of this app..Version: 1.0.3

Great App/ Emergency StopSince getting my DJI Mavic Air 2, I’ve been very happy with it as well as the app. Everything is easy to get to, find, and change according to your conditions as well as preference. My main reason for writing this review however, is to see if it is possible for the developers to add a Emergency Stop button near the Take Off button inside the DJI app. I say this to say that, a week ago I had an incident with my drone in which it crashed. The problem I had was, in the crash it ended up on its back with the blades still going.. causing more damage to the drone itself, as well as the propellers. I wasn’t able to grab it with my hands, and was in to much of a panic looking through the app to figure out how to QUICKLY stop it. Thus, the thought came to mention, and hope that DJI would here me out in developing an app update and drone software update to support this, as I know I am not the only one that has had this problem. Or, if that situation occurs, being able to stop it before further damage can be done..Version: 1.2.1

Great app. Not THAT bad!First of all, I don’t why there are so many bad reviews on this app. This is a great app compared to some of the other off-brand ones I have used. Second, this app has saved my Mini SE hundreds of times. It shows battery life (other apps won’t even do that), it shows my distance, and height. It has a map that shows where my drone is. It shows GPS status, aircraft status, and so much more that makes flying so much easier. Obviously, a lot goes into flying a drone, and it will drain your phone battery. If you have an older phone, of course it will overheat. This is a very powerful app that requires lots of energy. I don’t blame DJI for this. If you are super worried about this, get a controller with a built-in screen! That’s why DJI makes some drones that way. I truly believe DJI is trying to make things a lot easier, and they have helped me several times. Bottom line, ignore the other negative reviews, DJI has updated this app quite a bit, knocking out the other little bugs. I do believe you won’t have much of problem using this app. Also, if you have limited camera controls, that is probably because your drone probably doesn’t support it. My Mini SE doesn’t support aperture, D-Log, or panorama like some of the other professional ones. Don’t blame the app for this, you simply have a simpler drone. That’s all..Version: 1.9.1

Bad user interfaceI have Mavic air 2 and couldn’t figure out how to change the resolutions on QuickShots. Apparently each fly modes have their own separate settings. I was having my drone on ground and went to setting. Didn’t see resolutions settings for QuickShots. It REQUIRES you to fly in the air in order to change camera setting. That’s stupid. Also even tho your drone in the air but if you were on photo mode, you can’t change the resolutions of QuickShots because you are not on QuickShots mode! So you are forced to change the mode to QuickShots before changing the camera setting. It is not like options are grayed out so you know you can’t change the setting under certain fly modes. The options are not even visible so you wouldn’t know how you change the setting. This is absolutely stupid. So basically each time you change your fly mode you have to adjust your camera setting..Version: 1.1.3

Amazing drone, great app with one major annoyanceI love my Mavic Mini! It’s a great starter drone. DJI has done a great job with this app, as it’s pretty intuitive and responsive. However, there’s one major annoyance: you CANNOT silence the low battery alarm. Instead, it just blares over and over again at you - starting from 20% - until you land the drone. I understand DJI did this for safety reasons but they absolutely MUST provide an option to acknowledge and then silence the alarm. The noise is so obnoxious that, for me, it basically renders 1/5 of the battery runtime useless, as I now try to land before I hear that awful alarm. I’ve read about people considering cutting the speaker wire to stop the alarm. DJI: you have an amazing product but you really need to listen to your users and provide the ability to silence the alarm! How about an option to hit OK when it first alerts on low battery?.Version: 1.0.6

Great app. Mavic Mini needs ActiveTrack support.Let me start by saying that the app has been excellent to work with so far in my experience, especially now that support for manual exposure and white balance controls have been added for the Mavic Mini. (Those features should have been there from the start, but that’s another story.) With that being said, it baffles me that the Mavic Mini cannot use ActiveTrack. DJI has proven that the Mavic Mini is more than capable of tracking a target, as evident in the QuickShot modes. However, they refuse to just add support for ActiveTrack, supposedly since the lack of obstacle avoidance (OA) on the Mavic Mini is too much of a risk. If that’s the case, put a very clear and explicit warning about this risk on the screen whenever a user tries to use it. It’s really as simple as that; the user now can use this excellent feature on their Mavic Mini, and they are well aware of the risk they are taking by using it without OA. If the lack of OA is truthfully the only reason why DJI won’t support ActiveTrack on the Mavic Mini (and not because they are shafting users of features to give more inventive to buy the Mavic Air 2), I see no reason why this cannot be done. At the VERY least, give developers (like me) the ability to implement it themselves when the Mavic Mini SDK eventually comes out. TL;DR see title of review.Version: 1.1.0

Good but lacks some features. The major issue is the lack of Auto ISO function when shooting in Manual “Pro” mode, like the DJI Mimo app already has. With drones, it is very difficult to control the Aircraft while at the same time controlling the camera exposure settings, so an AutoISO with much finer (gradual steps) would assist to make it much easier to shoot Video while maintaining a specific shutter speed. The Quickshots function could be better by having an option hidden for advanced users, to let them manually start and stop the video recording independently. Add a Quickshot mode in which the drone simply goes up and do a 360 slow smooth panning, user controls camera tilt. Let advanced users store custom camera and aircraft settings in the Cine, Normal and Sport switch. Just like camera memory recall settings. This only exist partially. Would be great to have slower video frame rates, like 15, 12, 10, 6, 2 fps. There is a big gap between regular video and time lapse. There is no option to shoot Raw images only and this format could optionally use a lousy DNG compression..Version: 1.5.4

Not my first drone but first DJI droneBeen using app for a couple days now and has no issues, it’s very user friendly if you have never flown a drone before. It’s a nice feature that before you fly in any area it will ask you to ask for permission to fly if the area is restricted. It’s a very fast process and makes sure you are flying within the rules, so you don’t get a fine flying were your not supposed to. The in editor built into the app is also very easy to you with many features for quick edits if you wanted to post something quick on social media since it only exports files in 1080p. So if you want to get the full 2.7k resolution, you will need to edit on another app or on your computer which is fine..Version: 1.1.0

Mavic mini favorite drone, best drone and app for moneyThe most wonderful companion app for my brand new Mavic Mini 1. I absolutely love the 2.7k resolution, highly underrated and completely saves about 1/3rd of my memory when compared to 4k 30fps. I would purchase the new beautiful Mini 2, but 4k just is not enough for me to upgrade. My brand new iPhone and 1,300$ MacBook Pro doesn’t even display 4k, so my need for Mini 2 with 4k is literally pointless. Only positive would be its technology longevity. Anyone will be happy with either drone and DJi good job on your best app ever. DJI fly is perfect for beginners, which is why it’s so accessible. Simplicity = Superb. Thank You DJI, once again. I can’t wait for next update. DJI for Life. Thanks for listening and download “DJI FLY” APP right now..Version: 1.2.5

Great for beginnersThe DJI fly app is vastly superior to any other drone app that I have ever used. The drone connects quickly, as well as finding GPS almost instantly. The camera modes are easy to use as well as having a demonstration video with each mode. The only thing that did not work as intended was the return to home feature. When taking off from near my house, flying around, then returning to home the drone would try to land on the roof of the house, which could cause problems. However the return to home feature worked at the soccer field behind our school with no issues. A great app for a great drone. DJI Mini Se.Version: 1.6.12

Reliable and PracticalI recently bought the Air2s and love it so far. It is designed to use this app. The reason why many are giving this app negative reviews is they don’t realize this app is slightly different for each drone E.g my 2s and my mini 2 both run the Dji fly I don’t have an adjustable aperture control on both my drones so of course there is gonna be no option But the New Mavic 3 has it so it has it Overall the app UI is very intuitive however sometimes the altimeter ( GPS ) shows negative (-) altitudes it gets a little bit confusing especially if your flying low This is just my review of the app.Version: 1.5.1

Mavic Air 2Thank You so much DJI for creating such an awesome product as this Mavic Air 2. I purchased it over a month ago and it is loaded with so many features that seem to be flawless!! I am the owner of a Licensed Home Inspection company and this product is a valuable worthwhile tool. The photos and video are absolutely perfect for this business. I can zoom in on details as if I’m standing there touching the roof and flashings. I highly recommend this easy to use Mavic Air to beginners as well as professionals. I started using it within minutes out of the box and downloading the DJI fly app and following the instructions in the app. Thank You. And I also love how it holds up in the wind..Version: 1.2.5

Getting betterUpdate: The May 2022 update and firmware seems to have fixed the problem from my original review. There is still a strange glitch when adjusting the gimbal settings in the app. The switch on the RC needs to be changed to another speed and then back before the settings get linked to the drone. Other than that, all seems good to go. Original: The Air 2S still can’t do manual ISO settings for video. What good is a fully manual mode to prevent the video image from automatically changing exposure when you can’t even set the ISO manually? Fix this. For the price I paid for this drone this issue should have been dealt with a long time ago..Version: 1.6.5

Almost perfect but lacking one thing.Takes a moment to get used to everything just like any other intuitive app. However could use one more simple on screen feature. That would be a gimbal reset or gimbal position control. I was thinking a simple on screen button that you could tap once for either reset, or tap multiple times for like a 45*degree position, vertical or birds eye. I hate that I have to navigate through settings to find the gimbal reset button after doing a rocket quick shot with my DJI magic mini 2. Please incorporate this as I know many of us professional and amateur drone users would be so grateful!.Version: 1.6.2

Great app but lacks features it needsDJI has built the mavic mini as a solid drone especially for its 249 gram weight. It is incredibly stable in wind. For the price it is lacking features that it is certainly capable of like active tracking or digital zoom. I understand this model is entry level but it should be able to do anything the hardware allows. The mavic mini might get a patch for this but should have had this included on day one. The app is also great for the user and is easy to use, but could be better optimized for the flagship phones. Video uploading could also be made faster. Overall it is a good bang for your buck and we’re looking forward to the above improvements from DJI..Version: 1.0.6

Not a good travel droneI have great difficulty understanding why DJI would make such a small drone and yet it really cannot be considered a travel drone. There is currently no way to control the Mini with you phone or tablet only this means that although the drone technically can fit in your pocket, you are still constrained to carry around the bulky case with a remote. It is also impossible to quickly power on and launch the drone for those quick shot you can get with the Spark or Air. Such a simple fix to make the Mini truly portable. Also NEEDS Active Track. The Mini appears capable of it as it tracks its subject during Helix and other Quickshots. These omissions are simply head scratching..Version: 1.0.4

App crashed but the drone had safety featuresI had been flying the mini 2 over a local Walmart and I was gonna take a pano shot but the app crashed this happened on a 5 or 4 year old iPad so it probably was the iPads fault. Luckily the done did not in fact crash. But it was still in the airsince the controller was on it did not Return to where I turned it on/home point. I was able to reconnect with the drone and get it back onto the ground safely. It’s battery was low however though if it’s battery got to low it would have just automatically returned to home. Moral of the story don’t use low end devices to fly it..Version: 1.4.8

Bring app album backThis is a great little app, in addition to flight controls it has a surprisingly robust & versatile media editor, capable of creating stunning videos in no time & with zero effort. I do have my wishlist of small feature enhancements (e.g., allow editing text in templates), but overall I’m a great fan. Today, however, my enthusiasm for the app is overshadowed by the sorrow of the app album removed in the latest revision. It used to be a great way to not pollute my iCloud-synced library with raw footage, and is now forcing me to change my established processes. Please, bring it back! I will add the 5th star when you do….Version: 1.6.12

It’s great but. It’s a great app but it misses some of the functionality of the dji fly app such as a remaining flight time bar and shutter speed for video etc. I also wish there was an advanced mode with more telemetry data as this would give more control to advanced users. But at the very least video shutter speed and iso control would be great. Also it’s obvious that the drone sensor is capable of 4K why limit it even if it could take sales from the mavic air it could be worth it as more people would buy the mini because of its price and camera which could make up that loss. But In general decent app amazing drone just needs some small improvements..Version: 1.0.6

DJI is the best drone company, no doubt.Earlier today, I bought my first ever DJI product- A mini SE. as an entry level drone, it is phenomenally good, DJI did not cheap out on anything and went above and beyond. I expected a cheap, low quality overrated product, but got something equal to multi thousand dollar drones, including a 3k camera, tracking, fly zone detection, auto land and takeoff, and a super good and high quality controller that all folds. The app is super user friendly, I feel like a pro after my first day with DJI! 11/10 company, these guys are overachievers in every way..Version: 1.6.2

1st time drone ownerSo I have the Magic air 2. 1st drone and have spent 3 months flying and swimming it. Yes, I have dunked it in a pond in the first week. Pilot error. Followed online suggestions to douse it in alcohol it disperse the water. Everything is fine and performs as it should. I only use the battery that was in it at the time as a backup. I am guessing the manufacturer is expecting the product to eventually get wet and made safeguards in the product to make sure it can withstand 1 dunk. Needless to say I am hesitant to fly over big lakes where I couldn’t retrieve the drone. Great photos and flight experiences for me. Thanks DJI..Version: 1.1.8

Get rid of automatic phone chargingOK while it might be a nice feature to have a phone charging what happens is when I plug my iPhone 12 promax and after a few minutes the screen gets significantly darker because the phone is actually charging and putting out power at the same time as what I suspect if you can’t charge your phone before going out for fly then you know you need to get a separate device maybe but it does not need to be a feature because it interferes with my flight when the screen goes almost completely black and I can’t see anything.Version: 1.4.3

Works for MeI use this app with the Mini 2 and it works well for me. Some of the settings are a bit counterintuitive and buried, but once you get used to how the app works it’s actually pretty easy to use. I do wish the moving map’s size could be customized further. It would be ideal to have the map take up a full 1/3 of the screen while the live camera feed would take up the other 2/3. As it is the map is either very small in the corner or fills the entire screen, regulating the camera feed to the small corner..Version: 1.9.5

Mavic Air 2 & Mavic MiniToo many complaints about the app. Just like when the DJI go app came out, people complained and didn’t like it. Now they think it’s a great app. DJI is always improving their drones capabilities and software/firmware. Only issue I have with the actual app is the GPS satellite connection size. Even with my IPad Mini 5, it’s really small. Only other suggestion is for them to add basic waypoints. It should not be too hard and I hope they do an update with that feature. I also have a Mavic Mini. I don’t see why after one year now they haven’t added active Track. Overall great app..Version: 1.1.10

The app is fine…BUTI don’t like that on Goggles V2 I can’t see the telemetry on the app. I can’t believe that after all this time the Goggles 2 and the Integra don’t work with the DJI FPV Drone. Most importantly I HATE that I have to rebind every time I switch between the DJI FPV Drone and the Avata (which is every time I go fly). It’s the same with the Mavic, Air and Mini series drones. I seriously doubt it’s THAT hard for the goggles and controllers to remember more than one drone at a time. Only a very small percentage of your customers can afford to have a dedicated goggles and controllers for each of our drones. DJI you have to be better than that!.Version: 1.9.8

Great app, love it!I have to mavic mini and this app is great I can fly up to 3 miles out sometimes. And this app is good because it has more picture room with the dji go 4 app, it’s still good but but on the top it says gps mode on the top. This app also has good range I’ve lost connection I few times but that normal. So I am so glad I got the the mavic mini with this app it’s convenient it loads fast so you can get out to flying fast! This is a great app, recommended it. Thank you Dji for having such a good fly app!.Version: 1.4.4

IPhone Dims and Overheats. Why?Screen goes dark and will overheat on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 11. The Mavic Air 2 is my first drone purchased in July so I was thinking it’s because the temperature is in the 90’s. Using a sun shield and have tried every setting found on the Internet but still goes dim. I have had no other apps used outdoors to cause this condition. Reading that other users have the same issue and claim an app update is the problem. Please advise the solution DJI has to make the drone usable to fly with an iPhone without going dim and overheating. 9/3/22 Firmware Updates and the iPhone still dims..Version: 1.7.0

Photos Don’t sync to phoneIn the old version of the app, two copies of every photo would sync to the phone. This was annoying because it took up iCloud storage space - but it was livable. Now, photos don’t sync at all; you have to manually copy from the SD card. This is much more work and definitely needs to be fixed. In the settings, we have the option to turn this on and off, so it seems like a bug because no matter which way you place the toggle, photos don’t sync. Looking forward to an update on this feature..Version: 1.5.10

Absolutely Love DJI but….Just wanted first and foremost express my deepest appreciation for some of the most excitement I’ve ever had flying a drone and can’t wait to see how things develop in the coming years. I absolutely love DJI! I currently use my DJI FPV more than my others but your latest update had a bit of a hiccup with the imperial units missing. Not a huge deal but thought I’d mention it in case it hadn’t been noticed yet. Anyway, thanks for all that you do and keep them coming!!!.Version: 1.4.4

Missing Key FeaturesA good start but needs a serious upgrade. Simple software features like manual video controls and RAW still capture are inexcusably missing. Also the addition of Active track(some form already in the code base for quick shots) would put DJI so far ahead no one could catchup! Take a leaf out of Fuji’s book and add major features over time like they do and get committed customers for life..Version: 1.0.3

Great product but half finished appAs of Nov 2019 a lot of the text sections have editing comments and suggestions that should have been removed during editing. The sky pixel drone photography sharing site integration crashes the app when I try to add a description to the video before uploading it (and you can’t do it after). Functions all seem to work but be careful as some flight parameters reset between uses. Especially the return to home height which if you forget to set it above the default 15m you could end up in a tree. Better to let us set a value that stays until we change it manually. A way to access the sub 250g size of some drones as a way to authorize flight it some areas would be nice since the laws in some countries like Canada are more permissive of small drones like the Mavic mini..Version: 1.0.2

No active tack?😞?I don’t have the drone yet but know that there is no active track on the app witch sucks if you came from any other dji like the spark or mavic pro or air. So if you already haven’t please do!!!.Version: 1.0.2

Any review on Mini2?Is this update support hyper lapse for Mini2? What other new features will support Mini2?.Version: 1.2.2

New born under 250 gr drones...So good . This app is very easy to use . Hope new functionality will came soon. Perfect match with mavic mini... Dji please release the SDK soon...!.Version: 1.0.2

Failed to update using iPadIt’s not a big deal that I had to use my phone to update my fpv drone but I also have a stick error and I feel you should be able to change video setting and camera pitch on the app while flying.Version: 1.12.8

New update makes it impossible to see libraryNew update makes it impossible to see library.Version: 1.12.8

2 things to fix1. When I format a card. Stop changing the name to untitled. Have the OS read the name. Format. Then put the same name back on it afterwards. 2. I have a lens good attached. It thinks it’s a wide angle lens. Prevents it from doing a 360 pic. The camera can move all angles freely. Make that wide angle lens warning something I can turn off..Version: 1.12.8

Should be a 4 star. This is a serious item and it works very well for the purchased price. C ostco..Version: 1.11.0

Don’t understand why the complaintsI suspect it might depend on the combination of drone model and controller. If you are using the RC-N1 then the phone you use with this controller may be a contributing factor to your overall enjoyment or frustration. I started off with the RC in mid 2021, the one with the integral display, and never experienced any of the glitchs or annoyances that I’ve read here. I update everytime there’s an update available as it just gets better. This is my first time writing a review here to balance some of the negatives. BTW, I didnt do this at DJI’s request. I did this simply because I like their innovative business model and the quality of their products, and I do own a number of their products. The product forums on DJI’s website provides lots of help from other users too. Happy flying🙂.Version: 1.12.8

Time logging not accurateSo far I have completed 4 flights with a total of 34 minutes. The total flight log is only indicating 30 minutes. Is this a setup issue or a software issue?.Version: 1.8.0

This is epicI just started.Version: 1.10.1

Great Updates! Many of the reviews are years out of date, which is unfortunate because DJI has regularly been sharing a great updates. As of this review, which is v1.10.1, it includes impressive improvements to panoramic stitching, saving, and sharing. Might be issues with signal strength but it’s challenging to compare before/after experiences (suggest someone measure before upgrading to confirm)..Version: 1.10.1

Good but still missing support for mini 3 proI was excited to see the new update but sad to see that I still cannot transfer photos and videos from my Mini 3 Pro.Version: 1.7.4

Great product and softwareVery user friendly software but for a first time user it took sometime to learn how to pair the drone with the remote. It would help if I could swipe to the next step in setup..Version: 1.8.0
