Still doesn’t easily connect to my Garmin Overland Tread as fluidly as it could. Usually have to manually sync them. Also map loading / integration between the phones app and the Tread is glitchy at times. Would love for the weather and traffic to use other alternative sources.

I recently added the Garmin Tread 2 Overland Edition All-Terrain GPS Navigator to my collection of trail-riding tools for our 2026 Polaris Xpedition XP 5 NorthStar, and it has quickly become one of my favorites. Having owned and used Garmin GPS units for more years than I can count, I had high expectations, and the Tread 2 has exceeded them. While there are many features I appreciate, the standout for me is the ability to create and modify routes on the fly using the Tread App. During a recent ride, we encountered multiple trail and road closures caused by flooding. Instead of stopping our adventure, I was able to quickly create an alternate route in the app and seamlessly transfer it to the Tread 2 navigator. The process was simple, fast, and incredibly reliable, allowing us to stay focused on the ride rather than worrying about navigation. If you enjoy off-road adventures, overlanding, or exploring remote trails, the Garmin Tread 2 Overland Edition is an outstanding investment. Highly recommended!

I frequently plan multi-day group rides (road touring) for me and my friends. We’ve used Google Maps, Harley GPS and Indian GPS in the past. This is by far the best app I’ve used. We can plan the days ride while sitting in our hotel or a bar at night on my iPad. It will automatically sync to the cloud, then to my phone and from my phone to my Zumo XT2. Once you get used to adding waypoints, stops and shaping points it’s a breeze to use. If you’re planning a long ride in a place like the Ozarks it helps to break the route up into several segments with “stops”. The stops can later be changed to shaping points. Loving it!

I’ve been using the Tread app for navigation and route planning with my Tread XL Garmin, and I couldn’t be happier. The app works flawlessly—no crashes, no glitches, just smooth and reliable performance every time. Creating and customizing routes is intuitive and easy, and the app communicates seamlessly with my Tread XL device. Whether I’m planning an off-road adventure or just exploring new trails, this app has been a game-changer. Highly recommended for anyone serious about off-road navigation!

The thing I like best about this app is how you can build a route exactly how you want it from the comfort of your home. Specific roads/trails, however many way points or stops, adventure settings- curvy and paved or straight and boring- whatever you want. Then name the route, save it, and the next time your GPS synchronizes it’ll be on your device screen. You can build several days worth of routes for a multi day trip and then name each. Monday, Tuesday, etc. Works great with Zumo XT2

I’ve used all the Garmin Overlanders since their inception. This app has improved a lot. It’s now mostly my go to. The favorite thing is being able to choose how much back road and trail in your route. That is brilliant. Sometimes the tread app seems clunky but it could be: I don’t know what I’m doing, I’m want it to use it in a way it’s not intended to be used or Garmin make GPS not software so it just clunky. 🫢🤷‍♂️😂

As someone that isn’t all that experienced with GPS software, I can tell you Tread is 1000 times better than Basecamp! Obviously…Lol Seriously though, Garmin has done a great job making Tread easy to use when creating routes and then getting that data to your device. If you’ve used something like Gaia, it’s pretty much a seamless transition to Tread, in my opinion anyway.

I love the Garmin Tread Overlander. It takes a bit of time to learn where everything is, but it soon becomes an extremely powerful tool. By adding apps, and other Garmin products, it becomes even more capable. I have used it on two extensive off-road trips and I have always been way ahead of everyone in navigating. Love it

I find that the Garmin tread app is more intuitive and user-friendly than the old bass camp. I used to use with my old Zummo 595LM. I am currently using the tread app with my Zummo XT two. And everything is running smoothly without any issues it is easy to set up easy to connect and easy to use. One of the best mapping programs I’ve ever used.

The app is not the best or more intuitive but does the job very well about the basics and when you need something specific this app does that… motorcycle routing is not something common and this app makes the track to route conversions somehow easy when you have a garmin zumo device.

I have used lots of Garmin products throughout the years for different activities. The Tread for motorcycle travel in the backcountry has been the best. I love how the app works allowing me to sync tracks that some has shared and then search the tings I might need when I hit a town for supplies.

Maybe it has it and I can’t find it but it would be great if there was a Lock Screen or maybe a way to track it if it’s stolen even if it off. I don’t have doors or a top and I don’t want it stolen. If it was it be great to get it back

But all these Apps want you to rate them before you have any real experience, with them…so be careful of the 5 star I gave, as while I’ve done “home testing”, I’ve not done the real world trail testing, yet. Garmin was “hot to trot” for a review so I gave one, but I’m not going to lie for them.

Loving the tread XL and app so far. Hands down the biggest miss is not being able to create tracks on the app that can be sinked back to the unit. Creating routes is a problem as well. You can’t create a route unless using a road system. For an Offroad gps that is kind of ridiculous! I’m assuming it’s because I’m in Alaska. But only major rivers and lakes are named. I use other apps and small rivers, streams and lakes are identified. Annoying Overall good product and I do recommend it to buddies.

Such an amazing app. Being able to pick how adventurous routine want is amazing. I’ve used it on the XT 2 for my motorcycle go a while and recently bought the TreadXL Overland gps unit for my 4 x 4 and had a great backroad trip to Montana. Good job Garmin.

Love the app as I use it for motorcycle road routing with the Zumo XT2…and only have 2 suggestions: 1) need to create a reverse route function for routes (designated by two reverse arrows) and 2) make a PC version (the use of Basecamp for motorcycle routing is terrible)!

I really enjoy this app. It’s just what you’d expect from Garmin. Basic user interface, but powerful features when paired with their device.

I really enjoy the all and Garmin ecosystem. Planning routes is easy. Storing and maintaining is easy. I would love that I have a bit better way to distinguish offroad routes but I will get used to it.

The app is super easy to use with the Zumo XT2. I like the easy windy road feature to create a route. I can use my iPhone to create the routes and then easily syncs up with the Zumo XT2.

Takes a while to figure out how to use it properly, but once you do it is easy to work with.

I use it with my Garmin XT2 Motorcycle GPS. I have several motorcycles and I like that with this app and the optional enhanced map subscription I can get access to off-road maps.

Great interoperability between app and sumo xt2. Getting use to this system as I was only using my phone to navigate…. Well worth the expense to have a dedicated GPS.

I have used KTM app. Magellan Tom Tom Nothing compares to the Garmin ease of use durability and functionality. Worth the money Wish I could lock it on the bike instead of pulling it when parked.

There’s been a bit of a learning curve, transferring routes from MRA to the Tread app. Once you understand how it works, it makes Route planning extremely easy.

I’ve replaced all my nav devices with zumo xt’s because of the route planning capabilities of tread and the automatic sync. Huge improvement

I get traffic alerts, and text messages from my wife seamlessly. Very happy with this iteration of the software.

Love the Garmin Tread app! easy to plan your routes and transfer to the motorcycle mounted Garmin. I use the Zumo XT 2. Customizing routes to explore the Pacific Northwest has never been easier and frustration free.

So far I have limited time using the app but so far can say I really like using it!

The Garmin XT2 and Tread app are just about perfect for moto travel. I have tried many alternatives. No laptop required (sorry, but BaseCamp is past it’s prime). Tread makes GPX management simple.

App is jammed back full of info and constantly updated

Amazing app. They have thought of everything. Group rides are simple. Adventure levels let you route offroad trails with ease. Standard routing works just like the phone GPS. Importing GPX files and syncing with the Garmin Tred tablet is very easy. Recommend even for people who don’t have a Garmin Tred so they can be a part of a “Group Ride” and never get lost!

I haven’t been able to use it on the trails yet but long distance trips it has been a life saver

Perfect device for Off-road vehicles. I track all my routes and keep them on the tread app. Love this thing.

Syncs fast through both BT and Wi-Fi

We had a large chase team in multiple locations for the Baja 1000. I could easily locate each member as see their locations. Extremely helpful.

Perfect tool for the job

We use the yearly subscription and the overlander XL in our jeep. We’ve tried other apps and keep coming back to this one. So easy to add waypoints, track new trails, make courses, etc.

Tread is better than map explore

I haven’t used the app much but was extremely happy when i found a way to get all my old info off my old gps and on the app then boom onto the new unit winning app lets me plan and look at trips without having my gps in my hand.

The Garmin Zumo XT2 with the Tred App is interesting. You definitely need to watch YouTube videos to understand the basics. The Tred app sometimes will not connect to the Zumo, which means you’re not getting live traffic. Overall, despite the steep learning curve, I’m liking these Garmin products.

Can you allow the app to rotate with the screen? Currently you can’t use on iso with phone sideways?

I have had many gps units and this one by far is the best. Easy to use and can travel in whatever vehicle I am in including my quad and my motorcycle.

When the app is working well I have built some great routes on it. But lately each section I try and add to my route, will just calculate for 10+ minutes. I’ve deleted a bunch of routes that I didn’t want to delete hoping it would free up memory and allow the app to work better/faster, that don’t work. I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app, that doesn’t work. It’s frustrating and disappointing that this has become my slowest mapping/routing app there is. I read that if your route is too long it’s better to break it up into smaller sections, trying to route from my home to a first stop it just sits there “calculating” forever. Somethings wrong.

Developers seem to think everyone knows exactly how to decode icons. So it click and see what happens and in doing so erase all prior progress. Cannot use Garmin Explore to create routes only to share them with other people so it’s click zoom out, pan zoom on the phone and repeat. Created routes in Rever , Tom Tom web app and Google Maps and tried to import, got different errors for each app but result was the same, no import. Do some benchmarking of your competition and go back to the drawing board. For you Gen Z developers that’s means start over. I don’t think the developers have ever used a GPS or created routes in anything else other than AI testing environment

We took a garmin tread and inreach into remote Alaska. This app and hardware are completely useless. Nothing works unless you are connected to a cell or internet connection. Message between inreach devises on ANT+, nope. Mark a waypoint have it available to the other users, nope. Mark a way point on the inreach navigation on the tread in the sxs, nope. Maintain participation in a multi day ride, nope. Rejoin a ride (without cell signal), nope. Access basic help documents on setup or configurations, nope. Navigate to a waypoint from your phone connected to the gps via Bluetooth, nope. Sync waypoints, nope. Real time compass(from the gps to the app), nope. (Good thing we brought an actual compass) So an gps app that requires a gps provides no actual navigation function without cell signal….ummm so what is the point this hardware and app? If I have cell coverage I’ll just text the person. Share pin on Apple Maps or Google maps. Sounds like garmin needs to make there engineers through navigation training that stretches beyond the garden walkway at HQ in Olathe.

I’m not sure if this is a bug or not, but I looked at some older videos of the application being used and there’s a save button when you try to create a route. There is no way to save any route that I create on the phone app (there is also no way to load a route as far as I know). older video walk-throughs of the app show a save button as well as a fast and adventure button on the bottom when you’re creating a route. Those don’t exist anymore and haven’t for the last few versions I guess. that fact, render this app almost completely useless.

Since Garmin doesn’t have a computer based app to plan routes for the Zumo XT2 (which I was considering buying), I would like to see if this Tread app is going to be a suitable substitute for a computer based app. The problem is, you can’t check out the features unless you pair it first with the device, which I haven’t purchased yet. I don’t like the idea of planning routes on a small phone or tablet, so I would like to try out the Tread app before I commit to purchasing the Zumo XT2. Big fail, Garmin. I have decided I won’t be buying the ZUMO XT2.

Although it took ages for Garmin to include data for many Central American countries, they finally did and it’s rather detailed. However, the app is crash happy. I mean one crash after another just trying to do the simplest thing. If you can avoid using this app to plan navigation, do so.

You release an update that includes great rides… the ONE in north Georgia has 40 miles each way of of boring slab, you miss almost all the scenic roads, you don’t have the dragon? Garmin … always so close, but so far… I wish they had competition or someone made a phone that worked with gloves so the could become irrelevant.

The Tread App limits the number of shaping points between stops to only 10 by design. Spoke with a Garmin customer support. If planning a specific motorcycle ride on a specific route (back roads) need more than 10 shaping points. Need to increase that number to way above 10.

In no way shape or form is the treads app user-friendly. The thing doesn’t work half the time and it doesn’t connect the roads I want at the way points on my routes. Plus, I want to use it on my laptop not on a stupid phone screen. It’s taken me to wrong places multiple times. Insane Garmin can’t do better than this in 2025.

At first my tread overland and the app worked flawlessly together. Now they won’t sync or pair correctly. As much as these devices cost you would think Garmin would focus on keeping the main selling points working. A side note to the device itself, now once simple task like reversing a route is a major pain!

Some map details, such as popular paths, are not completely shown. There is a square region of my city that has the popular paths but outside this region the purple lines stop This also makes it not possible to fully plan your route a long distance route.

I have used many Garmin products, including the Aviation garmins. This is the most unintuitive app there is and even worse, It goes along with the super expensive Garmin tread GPS. My free Apple app on my phone is much more accurate than either of these. They have a chance to make these apps really useful but they didn’t.

It isn’t that useful unless you’ve got certain Garmin devices. For example it’s hard to get a list of nearby campsites and filter them. Hope they improve it.

Not only myself but a number of others on Facebook have noticed that routes are corrupted when uploaded to the XT2. They come out as empty and can not be seen on the map. Big problem as this is the only easy way to load gpx files to the device.

The app used to work well. In its current state you can’t import a GPX file without getting an error. Also when you create a new waypoint, you can’t save directly to a collection, as the app fails to name your current collections. This make what was once useful almost unusable

Much of Central America has no road data. This from a mapping company that actually has that data in its other apps. Pretty much a useless app, other than using it to transfer tracks and routes created with better apps.

Motorcycle

I create a route. I use the shaping tools to make it go on the roads I want. It works. Then 2 days later and the night before my ride it changes the whole route to a bunch of useless loops. It also refuses to calculate the route the way I want it too. It constantly wants to add shaping points at the end which will calculate but it I add them in the middle it won’t calculate and either gives me an error or sends me in some giant loop. Extremely frustrating after spending $600 on this GPS.
