Google NotebookLM App Comments & Reviews
Google NotebookLM Positive Reviews
It is AwesomeThis app is truly awesome. When I first heard about it, I set the notification when it is first available. Today, I finally got to try it out and I’ve experimented with a few documents to see if the podcast voice overview works. And yes, It works incredibly well. The only issue I’ve encountered so far is that the interactive feature, which is still in its beta phase, doesn’t seem to be working properly. When I click on it, it just appears on the screen and does not do anything. Other than that, I’m impressed with the concept and its potential, especially as a student. I’m hopeful that the developer team will work on fixing this issue. I’m eagerly looking forward to future updates..Version: 1.0.4
Great Progress — Almost There!Notebook LM has come a long way on the iPhone since its initial release. The app is smoother, more responsive, and overall much improved. However, there are still a few rough edges to smooth out. For example, audio doesn’t play correctly through my Bluetooth earbuds—though I have noticed better volume levels when using the iPhone’s built-in speaker. One major difference compared to the web version is the lack of the Discover feature. On the web, you can research a topic and instantly get ten curated sources, or even explore random topics—features that make Notebook LM truly unique and powerful. Unfortunately, none of that is currently available on the iPhone. That said, I’m optimistic. Once Google brings feature parity between the iOS app and the web version, this will be a five-star app. I look forward to future updates!.Version: 1.7.0
Better for on the goI really enjoy notebook lm on desktop more than iPhone. I utilize the mind map a lot and I assume because of how much information there can be, you can’t get that on mobile which is fine. It does make it easier to listen to the podcast because I used to have to download it or open it through chrome on my phone. Now I can just go on the app and listen. Not as many tools on the mobile version, but it’s good if you want to listen to the podcast in your commute or on the go. You still have the chat to ask questions and you can upload resources on mobile too. Not bad, but for long study sessions I would probably use my laptop desktop version. On the go or if I need to look at something real quick I’d use the mobile app..Version: 1.0.6
Love this app! This app is really awesome and extremely helpful for studying! I always dread reading long complex things especially since I’m in medicine. Now when I read a new study or article I also make a podcast of it! Helps me learn more and keeps it engaging!! I only wish it was more intuitive when it comes to selecting a podcasts from a notebook that has multiple podcasts. That one I can’t seem to figure out on the app. I wish there was a list/gallery view to then select it. This way I wouldn’t have to make a new notebook for each subject especially as I study for my board exams! Can’t wait until that is a staple among its features!! Let me know when it happens!!.Version: 1.10.0
Could be great!I’m only writing a one star review because the App is not as a great as the websites Audio overview. The Audio is way too low and there is a night and day difference between the Website and the App in terms of loudness. It’s also inconvenient paying for Google one and still not being able to adjust the length of the podcast and what to focus on (which I believe is a free feature). It does take too long to generate and loud podcasts but that’s the same on both the website and the app. It’s something I hope gets better with time. As with what I stated before, that is withholding me from using the app to it’s full potential, so I just use the website..Version: 1.0.6
Great study tool!! 🙌🏻I am floored by how real the podcast sounds! The only giveaway was the mispronunciation of a medical word as I am studying for nursing school. It’s a great way to condense information and hear it while you’re driving in the car or walking the dog. It’s a great study tool. I do wish that it wasn’t $20 a month because I will not be paying that. Too expensive. Maybe there will be more connections with colleges and schools in the future. I don’t think mine has it yet. Regardless, I am still very impressed with this app and it’s truly a compliment to how far AI has come!.Version: 1.13.0
Has potentialI like that you can upload way more documents per notebook than say a ChatGPT thread, but there are definitely some things that could improve. Be able to create and save, within the notebook, multiple podcasts so you can focus on different aspects of the material. Save the chat thread so it can be reviewed later vs having to re-ask questions. Have multiple chat threads so each person accessing the notebook can have their own chat thread and view other threads with the option to set your own thread as private. Also, better formatting for when you request to be quizzed, look to Notability and ChatGPT..Version: 1.0.6
Amazing appThis zap is doing great and fantastic. However there are a couple points. I’m gonna make that I think should be nice for this app point number one, if we’re going to use this app, I hope you can add some features where you can customize the podcast voices so they don’t all sound the same if you decide to post them. Point number two I wish you could have the ability to download podcast on your phone so it would be saved into your files other than that this app is great thank you..Version: 1.12.0
One of the best uses of AIIncredible app. Truly one of the most useful AI’s out there. What makes this special is you get to submit your own sources for reference and the best part- INLINE CITATIONS. Would like to see more use of web reference as an option in addition to personal sources with inline citations aswell. Some sort of toggle or bar to adjust how much outside sources to use could be helpful. Great app! I also like how you can import sources from anywhere at any point. Some more tutorials from google would be nice to to know how to maximize the use of app..Version: 1.0.4
Great App but who on this team ported it???I love notebookLM, the web app is phenomenal and the custom silicon makes that all possible. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the web app so I can queue up content for commute. You can’t change the notebook names, you can’t curate the actual podcast for focuses??? The first point here begs the question, who QA’d this thing. The second point, this is such a necessary feature and so utilized in the web app and you cut it???! Was it that hard to have that extra form box for user insertion to curate the podcast. This is such a great product but fire the product manager sitting on top of this thing, my god. Sundar, your company sits on such great IP but the execution…..Version: 1.0.4
More like 4.5 due to some hiccups on iOS platformMy classmate recommended Google’s NotebookLM, and I’ve been really impressed so far. The app is intuitive and especially helpful when uploading materials from my professors—it even notes what slide or page the content was transcribed from, which is a game-changer for studying. I did notice that the level of detail and functionality feels a bit more robust on the iPad app compared to the web version, which is interesting. However, I ran into one issue: when switching my iPad’s orientation from landscape to portrait, my chat would disappear each time I made the change. That was frustrating. Also, unlike the browser version, the app doesn’t let me navigate back and forth as easily, which can be limiting during study sessions. Overall, though, it’s a fantastic tool that’s helped me solidify my study guides and stay organized for my classes. Highly recommend it to students!.Version: 1.8.0
Still some Bugs, but frankly amazingThey’re still working out some kinks but the potential this has is frankly unbelievable. AI has come such a long way in such a short time. If you’re a student in an intense didactic curriculum, you need to check this out. It can make study guides, turn any textbook chapter into a podcast, or you can ask it specific questions. Really just amazed at the potential of this in every way.Version: 1.0.7
Amazing app, but…This app really is good, but I’m generally just speaking about NotebookLM. The ability to get accurate sourced information from 50 sources all at once is great. However, there are a few things that I specifically thought the app itself would have. Firstly, where are the other generative items?!? I downloaded the app so I could use the quiz and flashcard features on my phone for quick reference. Second - LaTeX rendering. For any mathematic subject, there is LaTeX citations (for example, $/mu = x$), but no native rendering on the chat interface..Version: 1.13.0
Force MultiplierNotebook LM has been a game changer as a research assistant, data synthesizer, and facilitator. It’s been a tremendous help when I’ve been introduced to a new topic or interested in learning more about something. Helps with organizing and summarizing information, proposing thought-provoking questions, and laying out a timeline of events. And, the podcast feature is an excellent way to cement your understanding of the topic. All-around a very valuable tool..Version: 1.0.4
This is a great tool as of so farAs a high school student this is personally a great app for what I’ve seen. It’s free. I’ve used it for textbooks to turn into little. Podcast and it’s not just like they’re reading the pages to you. It’s like they make a whole podcast where two people are talking to each other and they slide some funny jokes in there and it helps it stick better..Version: 1.12.0
Amazing idea, mediocre executionThe app is honestly pretty good all things considered. I love how easy it is to upload multiple sources and create a podcast that helps me learn the content through a more interactive listening experience than just TTS software. I just wish it didn’t cause CarPlay to crash since that’s when I listen to it the most. I find it’s better to download the wave file and play it in a different app. This is a game changing app though for learning..Version: 1.7.0
They should really knowTo the developers: it’s a 5 star concept but for reasons unknown to me it’s left on the user’s to explore the boundaries of the potential. I have uncovered many amazing features that I assume aren’t documented or discovered. I have enjoyed exploring the boundaries of the MoE architecture and how to influence routing tokens to multiple experts including experts that NbLM doesn’t induce. I don’t want to go throwing wrenches into the gears so I have been researching the boundaries and how to push through them. I have enjoyed many models and platforms but NbLM has consistently regained my attention. Where can a person get in contact with the people who can determine if/what can be released. I can easily invoke outside sources. I am routing tokens in fascinating ways but I don’t want to negatively impact the product/platform by releasing techniques that fundamentally circumvent the routing mechanism..Version: 1.0.7
Essential for collegeWith the boom of technology it’s hard to find a happy medium between diligent study or cheating. Notebooks provides that medium by promoting learning with ease by the use of AI. My technique: 1st: audio or video review (listen when convenient). 2nd: Then the day before a test, I have LM write a study guide and I physically copy that to my word document. Word by word. It takes less than an hour to completely digest..Version: 1.11.0
Trash Bin for NotebookLMI accidentally deleted one of my notebooks that I loved deeply, and there’s currently no way to restore it. Please add a Trash Bin or Restore/Delete confirmation system so users can recover notebooks if they delete them by accident. This would prevent a lot of lost work and frustration, especially for creative projects like mine. Thank you for considering this important addition!.Version: 1.8.0
Needs ImprovementI gave 4 stars because what it does is very helpful. 1 star is taken away because it’s not the level of polished you’d expect from a Google app. Even with my volume turned all the way up I can barely hear the audio. Also, it will often just not create audio even though it says it’s working on it, or it’ll say it created audio but not play anything or delay playing by a minute or so..Version: 1.0.6
When it works, it’s amazingWhen the program works, the podcast audio overview is fantastic. It makes studying for my masters program much easier. My issue is that there are days, where the audio overview does not generate anything. I’ll try to restart it, and it won’t work. I’ll delete the files and re-upload them, and they won’t work still. Some days it just has a personality of its own..Version: 1.7.0
Really good but too quietI love this app. I love the AI podcasts and they’re very helpful. As of now, there is an issue that I have to turn my phone volume to the max to just barely hear the AI podcasts. My phone is only a little over a year old has clear speakers and I don’t have any known hearing problems. It worked fine on the website so idk what’s going on. As long as I’m not going crazy I hope this gets fixed soon..Version: 1.0.6
Scientific ArticlesI gave this three stars because it’s very clever. It does do fairly well however it’s terrible when it comes to pronouncing certain things such as Greek letters I think the developers need to go through upload some scientific articles. Listen to it and find issues and fix that. Also, the mind map can have a lot of redundancy so you’re like rereading the same thing over and over. If some of these issues could be fixed, it would definitely be worth something for a small subscription per month that I would pay for. The interact function, which is also in beta testing you have to join every time. If it could be integrated to where the AI would ask you a question and then it give you feedback that would be amazing..Version: 1.9.0
Looking forward to MORESo far I’m really enjoying the app. I look forward to when it will develop further, offer more options and control, such as weighting certain sources differently or being able to add other types of files to the sources. I’d also like to be able to have the ability to reformulate the voice overs so that they can adjust when new data is entered..Version: 1.9.0
So helpfulI’m a PhD student and I am working on synthesizing so many different sources. There were a few articles I was struggling with. Put it through this - listened and interacted - helped me clarify ideas. I don’t think it’s a replacement for reading the information. I don’t think it’s thorough enough for that - but it really helped me process and understand! I’m a HUGE fan!.Version: 1.8.0
DOWNLOAD IT IMMEDIATELYHonestly this app is life changing! The mind map and the podcast is my most used features and genuinely transformed how I study. They just added a video feature and I’m excited to try it as well. The podcast is perfect for drives, workouts or even multitasking while doing chores. Beautiful use of technology and best thing for education imo!.Version: 1.12.0
Saves time and great informationNotebookLM saves a great deal of time pulling raw content into your notebook system and then pulling relevant date quickly and providing it. For many topics, where you just need the elements of the raw data presented in a few different ways it makes all the difference..Version: 1.0.6
Missing key features, audio bugSeems like they rushed the release of the app rather than waiting for a version that was equivalent or better than the web version. There’s no ability to generate mind maps, study guides, timelines, FAQs or briefing docs like you can on the web version. There’s also a bug where the audio from the generated podcast (deep dive) comes out the ear piece instead of the phone speaker. Using an iPhone15 Pro..Version: 1.0.4
Language IssuesHi, I’ve been using this app for about 2 weeks and I can already tell how good and helpful it is, but There’s something that have been bothering me, is that It’s only in English. Every documents I have are in French and I would have liked it that it would remain in French but they translated it. Can you do something about that, add other languages, it would be better..Version: 1.0.6
Desktop is much betterWhile the mobile phone app seems convenient, it lacks feature functionality of the desktop. I found that it doesn’t always work. It struggles to play the actual narrative. I have had better luck building my notebooks on the desktop and generating the content there. Once complete., About 50% of the time I can enjoy the content on my mobile device..Version: 1.0.7
Amazing product but Mobile App needs to catch upYou have an amazing product here—in my view, this is the crown jewel of the Alphabet AI ecosystem, especially on the consumer-facing side. I recommend prioritizing mobile app functionality, particularly allowing users to generate and customize audio overviews directly from the app. This would be a major step forward in usability. Equally important is the ability to save prompt and audio overview customizations within the notebook’s context window. That way, users don’t have to re-enter prompts each time they regenerate an overview to capture new details. With these changes, NotebookLM could evolve from an amazing product into a truly indispensable one..Version: 1.10.0
Phenomenal App, Buggy Mobile ClientThe core application is fantastic, but the mobile application is presently very feature limited compared to the web client. For instance, one cannot presently watch video summaries within the app. The app is also bugged and frequently fails to load audio summaries, raising non-responsive audio controls. I use the web application daily and would highly value stable mobile control..Version: 1.12.0
Audio Load IssueIt takes more than 10-20 seconds as suggested to load the audio (already generated using web app), and most of the time would result in an ‘unable to load audio’ error. in addition when the audio is playing you won’t be able to interact with the knowledge base. that seemed like a bizarre design decision to me.Version: 1.0.6
Needs a lot improvementThe app takes ages to play a voice clip, the app doesn’t show the customization that can be done in browser. Still good, I like but hope the team quickly fixes these issues.Version: 1.12.0
Fixed Audio, but Missing Many FeaturesI’m so happy they fixed the playback issues for the audio overviews. However, so many of the features from the web version are missing. No mind maps, briefings, study guides, FAQs, or assistance in finding more sources. I do not understand why those features are just not here. I get why they’d focus on the audio aspect, but the rest is SO helpful..Version: 1.7.1
This app is sickWho has time to read boring slides when you can have AI create a podcast for you so you can listen to it on your commute to school or wherever you’re trying to learn what a great idea. AI is amazing almost like getting head! But for your brain.Version: 1.9.0
Great to have the app…butLove this app however I feel disappointed and let down that it lacks some key functionality and doesn’t mirror the web app. I only have this 4 stars for this reason but believe a 4.5 would have been better and the web app is 5! Keep shipping the improvements and enhancements dev team!.Version: 1.0.6
Not the same functionality as desktop versionI love and use NotebookLM desktop version for personal and professional use. Unfortunately, the mobile version does not allow you to deselect some of the sources or customize the audio overview function to focus on specific areas you want to learn. Hopefully Google will make improvements in the future..Version: 1.0.4
So QuietThe generated audio is so quiet! Even with my iPhone’s volume turned all the way up, it sounds like it’s stuck at less than 50%. I don’t have this issue in any other app. Because of this, I can only listen to the generated audio in an absolutely silent environment or with noise canceling headphones. I love NotebookLM and am excited to update my review to 5 stars once this annoying bug is fixed..Version: 1.0.4
Missing 1 featureThis is an awesome product but it is missing 1 feature that is available on the web. That feature helps you find sources to add instead of having to upload them all manually. If they add that to the mobile app it will be perfect..Version: 1.0.6
Great startI love to have Notebook LM as an app on my phone. Quicker access and nicer UI than the web version. One downside I found was that it always activated the mic when I listen to the generated audio. I works fine but my headphones have lower sound quality when the mic is on. It would be nice if the mic was not turned on..Version: 1.0.4
