Tacx Training™ Positive Reviews
Meets my needs but needs refinementGood: The interface is good. It connects with my trainer great. I can upload my own GPS routes and ride them. I get to experience the elevation changes smoothly. The view shows a cool overhead map view as I progress on the course while also showing current cycling data and an elevation profile- all the things I want at once. The rides will sync with my Strava account automatically if I choose. Bad: No way to edit my own uploaded GPS workout names/titles. Also - GPS rides feature a “select subcourse” option but there are no subcourses when I select it and no instructions for creating a subcourse in a GPS file. No instructions for the app on TacX or Garmin sites - and no manual either. Tutorial videos? TacX tutorial videos are way too old and don’t match the current program. FAQs don’t scratch the surface..Version: 4.8.2
Pretty amazing and could be even more with a few tweaksI have been using my Tacx trainer for a little over a month and love it. Who knew that it’s more enjoyable to ride the virtual/real course than train with a movie? Or a book? I appreciate the scenery, the automatic adjustments for terrain, it makes the ride almost real. Add some earphones and music and you could believe you are there. Amazing experience riding around the world on beautiful locations or historic routes On the needs improvement side, since I am both running and riding indoor/outdoor and mostly use the Tacx when it’s not ideal to go outside on the road (dark, winter, rain, etc.) I wish the transition between the Garmin training plans were more seamless across devices. As it is, you pretty much need to choose one or the other. You can ride your Garmin Connect plan on the Tacx, but no video. You can create a Tacx coaching plan, but can’t modify the days, #of days, etc. and can only ride it on the Tacx. All the pieces are there to create a seamless Garmin fitness ecosystem between real and virtual world. Raining? No problem, just keep on your training schedule and hop on the Tacx to ride in Ireland…. Hopefully it’s in the works. Overall, light years head of my old resistance wind trainer, highly recommend..Version: 4.52.0
Generally pretty goodI like Garmin products and feel that this compliments nicely with their trainer. It does a good job of giving me an excellent work out, excellent logging and data about my performance. My wife and I each have an iPad and ride side by side using this app in our training room. We like being able to ride together and motivate each other. Would really like the ability to cast our two sessions to a tv in split screen mode. Now for the downside. The program seems to be full of random glitches and occasional crashes. Today we couldn’t do a group ride, got an error message. Sometimes it won’t show the amount of ev elation changes at the bottom of the screen. Often the screens freeze with a spinning circle then resume. Strangely often in exactly the same place for both my wife and I. Also randomly won’t connect to the trainer if we leave the trainer on. We’ve learned to unplug it each to,e we’re done training to avoid having to reboot the trainer (Tacx)..Version: 4.54.3
Excellent But Not PerfectLet’s start with the most notable positives, which are numerous. I think of these in terms of what the app does better than the competition or in excess of what others offer. 1. HD Vídeo content is tremendous 2. Variability of course length and difficulty 3. Customization of trainer interface directly through the app 4. Seamless connection to wide range of devices and accessories 5. In-ride HUD is fantastic, showing you everything you need without blocking the amazing views There is much more to like about the app, but in my opinion those are the highlights. There are, however, a couple of things I think need to be resolved to really push this into the absolute top tier of trainer apps. 1. Allow riders to filter by road surface - I ride exclusively on tarmac, so I don’t want to ride gravel. The road feel is SUPER cool, but it makes pacing a bit of a nightmare and I need to click through each individual video to limit myself to tarmac and cobbles. 2. Make the uploads to Strava automatic! The website claims there is an automatic upload/share to Strava, but that is not the case. You need to navigate to the cloud storage for activities and manually select the share option to upload to Strava. This is not a major problem, but is a hassle. Admittedly I haven’t gotten into any of the workouts yet, purely the HD films, so I cannot comment there. I will say, though, that this app has blown me away - I had not anticipated being pulled away from other trainer apps, but this may have swayed me..Version: 4.8.2
Great alternative to Zwift, but a few problems remain in training analysisThis is a really outstanding app to use with a smart trainer. The virtual ride experience is much more realistic than Zwift; the model used for the climbing and descending is much better, and the road feel available on a Tacx Neo trainer or Neo Bike is a nice feature. Problems: both on the iPad and iPhone version, the analysis graphs (of speed, power, heart rate, etc.) available at the end of a ride do not get plotted with proper scaling of the data; much of the data goes off scale, and there is no way currently to resize the y axis of the graphs. This needs to be addressed. Also: there should be a way to send the ride data to the Garmin Connect service in addition to Strava. At least one would expect that the Garmin Connect service would be an option given that Garmin International now owns Tacx. Maybe this can be added in a future version. Overall, this is really great app, and I prefer it to using Zwift because these rides available are real world. One can try out the courses for Milan-San Remo or the Tour de France climbs. (I need to be much fitter to survive the latter...)..Version: 4.2.4
New user interface as of Nov 2023 makes it hard to useI have been using this app with my Neo TacX bike trainer fora few years. I run this app from an iPhone 12. The UI issues related to the ability to start a slope or speed without (the only ones I ever use) are no longer on the screen when you start. They added banner buttons/quick links, so now you have to scroll to get to the main functions. Similarly, when in the workout, the metrics are so spaced out you have to scroll. Given you are working out and have sweaty hands - scrolling is a no go. Garmin: please develop and test knowing people are using this on phones and the screens can’t be cluttered up thus requiring scrolling. If multiple screens are needed, a tap on a tab or similar is better than scrolling for workout conditions. UI is hugely important for exercise apps. (Note: this issue got worse with the update they pushed in Nov 2023 - have my post now).Version: 4.36.3
Accuracy is questionableI left Zwift because I wanted more of realistic scene vs a comic. The TacX routes are neat and I like the routes. There are 2 things I don’t like: 1- The view is only a recording. No interacting or seeing other members other than just a pin on a 2D image in the top corner. 2- The accuracy of the elevation and riding surfaces isn’t accurate. I’ve been riding long enough to know my real world watt and speed while riding elevation and different types of surfaces. The app absolutely over exaggerates the data. It’s silly but the only reason I keep the TacX app is for the Garmin points and compatibility but in the last year the AI on Strava has become way better than anything Garmin produces. Once this trainer does ill absolutely leave Garmin for a Wahoo and use Rouvy or Zwift and track training on Strava and Training Peaks..Version: 4.78.1
Easy to use with Garmin devicesThis app has numerous options for training as well as supported devices, rides, and view modes (road view, road feel, GPS, you can import your road rides to the app and train with them). One feature to propose is having Garmin & Tax merge the data from rides recorded on Edges, Fenix Garmin watches with the data recorded in the iPad/iPhone app. Each of the devices records different data, so they should be synced as one whenb used simultaneously. Ex. my Fenix records my Heart Rate, but the bike does not, neither does the App. So I want to add my HR to the data on the Tax and Garmin Connect. If Edge has it as well, then it wouldn’t be duplicated with the Fenix’s HR data, but perhaps averaged out instead..Version: 4.37.0
Good app -really bad customer supportThe quality of the videos is significantly better than competitors and quantity is good. Physics model is good with latest firmware updates. However, challenges are open but no one seems to be responding to inquiries upon completion. Additionally customer support emails go unanswered. Perhaps Garmin has forgotten to staff it’s acquired products?? Three weeks and multiple emails sent via different channels go unanswered. Twitter account has been nearly dead for over a year. Even the app support link on this page is dead and redirects to another page!.Version: 4.9.3
Like the app, UX suggestionI like the app, but with the version 4.81.3 release the UX changed for Garmin Coach suggested workouts. While seeing the training and heart rate zones is a nice addition, all of the text sizes were reduced and 1/3 of the screen on the iPhone is occupied by the background image of someone riding a TACX trainer. That is space which could be used for adjusting the visual sizes and Placement. The text size can be increased to the next size on the iPhone, but then one has to scroll up and down to see the different visuals. They no longer fit on one screen. The background image adds no benefit to the UX and also may use up battery resources unnecessarily on a user’s device..Version: 4.81.4
Firmware Update doesn’t work rightI have a Flux 2 Smart Trainer. When I check the Firmware I’m told it has FW 3.3.45 installed and the current FW Version available is 3.3.40. Clearly, 3.3.45 is newer and since it’s installed on the trainer it must be more current than 3.3.40. Having worked in IT for over 40 years this tells me that either the app is reading an out of date database/xml/file or that FW Version 3.3.45 had a problem and has been rolled back to 3.3.40. Either way when the app tells me the unit is up to date the FW installed and the current FW should display the same version number. As a result I don’t know if my FW is actually up to date or not. To add insult to injury this bug has been identified and not fixed for over 3 years if you check the support forums. Clearly the development team for the app and the FW team and the Forum Teams are not communicating and fixing issues. Additionally, I have not been able to locate a document on the forum that identifies the latest FW for each smart trainer so that I can verify what FW should be available. If FW 3.3.40 is current the app should enable me to rollback to it..Version: 4.48.4
Good but needs a few more tweaksSo I’ve done 5 rides on my Tacx Trainer using the app on my iPad. I’m really enjoying the options in Tacx, but I have a few suggestions for improvement. - Better user support: the guides online at Garmin are the same a as the basic setup guide shipped with the trainer, and the app doesn’t really help there, either. I had to Google for tips on how to set everything up and get started. - real-time prompts: some audio cues while in a workout would be helpful, including prompts when you get out of a training zone - Upload photos when syncing to social media: I’ve only figured out how to upload the map and data to Strava, but my friends who use Zwift can show some screen captures from their rides. If you were picking a training app and were using yours friends’ activities as a guide, which one would look more attractive? Personally I like the real life videos rather than a video game interface. - Ride analysis is messed up. My screen only shows three bottom part of the graphs for speed, power, cadence, etc., but I can look at all that in Strava, anyways..Version: 4.8.2
Needs Apple Health support and more optionsI love that I’m able to just hop on and go with this app, but the lack of connection to the constant heart rate monitor on my wrist is a big negative. If I could control the resistance from my watch too it would be amazing. I ride a single-speed road/track bike, and I may not know the full range of features of the app but I feel like there should be a more intuitive way to set myself off on a more tailored training route for my bike. I’m always at the lowest possible resistance on my Tacx Flow because I don’t have the ability to change gears. Overall it’s a good app for the mandatory indoor exercise we have to do now, but needs some more features..Version: 4.8.1
Enjoying, back againI’ve been using the Tacx app for over a year now with my Tacx Bushido trainer, I like the types of rides they have in the movie mode. I did get frustrated with problems syncing when Garmin took over Tacx and I tried Fulgaz for a bit but it just didn’t have the same feel that I was used to with Tacx. Been back on since fall ‘21 and haven’t had issues. The only thing I wish it had was the ability to cycle through a route automatically again, for instance the ability to do a few laps of Central Park in NYC or something similar..Version: 4.24.0
Integration with Garmin partnership with StravaApp demands integration with Garmin and now doesn’t upload to Strava. Also do not see options to export workout or manual upload to Strava So after receiving response, Tacx can no longer export directly to Strava. All instructions one may see online for options are no longer valid. You must connect via Garmin Connect then the transfers can occur. With the transfer through Garmin Connect it appears you lose the title and description of the virtual ride provided by Tacx and the generic description of morning, afternoon, etc ride..Version: 4.13.3
Weird experienceSeems like the app is, after latest update, pausing and reloading frequently. Today when I was riding the Lavender forest ride on first hill climb with one opponent right behind me and I switched to the satellite view the app froze and later collapsed. When I clicked to open it again I had the option to resume my ride. Strangely I was placed in the middle of the second hill climb. That means I skipped 10 km of the 20 km ride. I can imagine how the opponent behind me was surprised seeing me to teleport my self from first hill to the second hill within approximately 1 minute thanks to the “excellent” brotherhood of programmers..Version: 4.48.4
Tacx Garmin TrainingTacx and ROUVY are close in style; Tacx- has road feel, which I really like. I dislike the elevation graphics that blocks the screen and not as many rides. Also no connection with other riders. ROUVY- has simulation riders, including yourself, and better race/ride connection with others. They have a lot of rides and the pages are cleaner. You can choose kits, bikes and wheelset. Swift -Only thing it has going for it is the amount of people, really too many per race or ride. The graphics are atrociously cartoon-like one dimensional, the subscription is expensive, and there is absolutely no realism at all..Version: 4.76.7
User made workoutIn past app version user could create a workout with segments of variable slope. This is no longer possible and to ride a workout of variable slope, user has to ride a slope workout and manually make changes to the slope during the workout. This is a significant change from prior. This is a significantly negative change for trainer workouts. Ironically user can go to old workouts and the app recognizes the old user defined workout and the old workout can be ridden; but no new user defined variable slope segment workouts can be made and saved. That feature should be re-enabled..Version: 4.76.6
Very good, with a few quircksTacx is my favorite winter traing app. it is great for the self motivated rider that is not overly interested in 'social media' training. It is simple to find a ride profile that meets your daily traing goal - for example, doing a tough, lumpy, couse in Belgium is far more fun and interesting than boring old intervals. You can do standard structured training as well, and mix the two to keep it interesting. You can also upload the course of an upcoming event to prepare. Hands down my favorite, and I've tried a bunch..Version: 4.62.4
Switch to Garmin Connect FailThe app worked great before switching over to GC last week. Previously, I would complete my training ride and hit save. It would give me a ride summary window, log the ride and email me a link of the file to import into my performance management software. Simple and flawless. Now after a training ride, I hit save and the data is gone. No review window, no log in my recent rides and nothing in my GC account. Did a chat session with Garmin help, gave the individual my info and was informed that my lost data would show up within the hour. Nothing. I’ll try contacting Garmin again but my expectations are low..Version: 4.13.3
Love the many options for training/ridingLove the gps and virtual riding options and that you can also download your own Garmin routs, the training options are also on point. With the all the positive there seams to be problems. When training using virtual or gps rides that are longer then 1.5 hours in length the blue tooth drops connection (half of the time). I’ve tried another devise thinking that was the issue but still have problems. Not sure if it’s my tacx trainer or the app?.Version: 4.26.2
Please fix this appJust moved from Zwift to tacx ( I was attracted by the real videos) and unfortunately I subscribed one year with this app. Very inconvenient.. every time it takes several time to switch on and off my devices to get them to connect ( I have a tacx NEO and MAC). The streaming is not of good quality. If you download the video, the download gets interrupted then you have to go start again from scratch. For 10 GB video you have to tolerate easily an hour back and forth between devices before you start your ride. bottom line I had a Bad experience.Version: 4.14.1
GarbageVideo is laggy and freezes 8-9 times per hour (sometimes for 5+ minutes!) even with solid WiFi connection. Garmin Dual HRM worked great for 3 days then stopped displaying in app (app says it’s connected and the HRM still works with other devices but only dashes are shown in the app). The trainer will stop providing resistance in the middle of a ride. Close and reopen the app and it works again but your ride is ruined. Terrible customer service on top of everything else. Save yourself the aggravation and buy ANYTHING else but this. Don’t say I didn’t warn you..Version: 4.26.2
Bad interface/UXI really wish the most recent update hasn’t happened. The app was fine before if a bit clunky. Now it’s no longer possible to see multiple saved workouts at a glance, the information display while riding highlights odd data points (calories???) while making it difficult to see more important ones, etc. I could keep going. Please make the redesign go away!!! I dread it. Three stars because the app still works and doesn’t crash..Version: 4.3.1
Garmin takeover is a downgradeTacx makes great hardware and is a great company. Garmin on the other hand has made the process of using the training rides an awful experience. I’m currently stuck in an endless loop of “your session has expired. Please log in again”; I log in and immediately get the same message. It frequently won’t recognize my heart rate monitor and it frequently loses my workout if I pause activity. Addendum Upgraded from one star to three after login problem resolved. But other issues persist, and now my Bushido smart trainer is a brick after the software attempted to calibrate it..Version: 4.53.2
Good with occasional exceptionsI do enjoy using the app, but every update seems to fix an annoying UI bug or two while introducing another. For example, the ride completion stats page showed incorrect average and max HR values. That was fixed in a recent update. After the most recent update, if you pause a ride by stopping pedaling, the Ride Paused screen remains displayed after you successfully resume the ride by pedaling again..Version: 4.68.2
App Acting StrangleyIn the past few weeks, the app has started developing some recurring bugs. It will shut down spontaneously several times during a workout and it will lag horribly. I suspect it has been neglected by Garmin ever since it acquired Tacx. Garmin did away with the Tacx workout builder and forces users to use the Garmin Connect workout builder. The Garmin Connect workout builder is a far inferior product. It is difficult to use and clunky..Version: 4.66.4
Good but not greatThe app integrates seamlessly with my Tacx trainer. I cable to a 4K TV from my iPad. The TACX standard subscription provides 720P resolution video. Other apps offer 1080P with similar routes at the same or lower price. The one feature that I do like is the ability to ride segments of routes...very handy if you want to focus on a particular element of your training but have time constraints. Returned to the app after a year, but little progress. Will check back in next year to see if there has been improvement..Version: 4.39.5
Poor support! This trainer and app have been a constant source of frustration! We had a great deal of trouble initially with connection to the internet. We finally ironed that out after many calls to Tacx. We were told that it was due to using an extension cord - not the case! Most recently, our data on the app disappeared. And since March 3, no data from rides records on the app!!! Ughh! I wish that we could return these high-priced trainers!.Version: 4.14.1
Excellent training partnerThis app has allow me to develop my training in a most specific manner. With the download of my local rides, I can get better at some of the area routes that I get dropped with my team. Where some apps finish this app starts. Allowing you to create your own training workouts enables you to be precise in your development towards being a better cyclist. Thanks, Garmin..Version: 4.48.4
Eh...Just okay. I use it in conjunction with Zwift. I like that it is actual video instead of a cartoon but they have a long way to go to make it as smooth running as Zwift. The videos are definitely several steps below professional quality and can vary a bit from vid to vid. FulGaz for instance costs less for same quality and I like that they have some “group rides” you can go on. Since Tacx was bought by Garmin I don’t hold out much hope for improvement in the quality of the experience, only price increases..Version: 4.23.0
App used to work great, not nowBought trainer two years ago and had an account with auto pay for premium service. Was directed to switch over to Garmin account to which I did and payed for same service and now Tacx app has me locked out of everything except demo rides and all of my body/bike metrics have reset to default. Trying to navigate site to find help topics to no avail..Version: 4.50.4
Wow!I have been saving for an indoor trainer for a year and was steered in the direction of my Tacx Flux S. The only thing I knew was I wanted direct drive. Grit Cycling in Louisville, Kentucky, my go to shop started selling Tacx gear a few years ago. I knew I loved my smaller equipment from Tacx, but this thing is AWESOME. Best workout l’ve had in a month-since winter set in early. I’ll be on this thing way too much this winter. Only question and possible qualm...I don’t see a way to hook it up with my Fitbit for heart rate info?!.Version: 3.4.0
Perfect partnerI am fortunate to live in a mild climate with great climbing and excellent roads. I don’t always have the time to get out when I want to do so. I said I would never ride a stationary trainer again but after a minor injury sidelined me I bought a Neo2 trainer and subscribed to TACX. It has been an excellent experience. I keep my fitness, record my metrics, and stay motivated by the virtual courses. I highly recommend the combo..Version: 4.54.3
Literally can’t find a way to subscribeMy subscription reverted to basic after 2 rides. The first went ok, the second refused to start until I downloaded it. That took about 10 minutes for 400 megs of movie. Even after that I am willing to give Garmin money to use the app more, maybe it was a fluke and I like Garmin, but there is no upgrade button. Found instructions for managing subscriptions and cancelling them but not starting one. I give up and switch to another app for my neo 2t..Version: 4.52.0
Love it, except...I love how easy this app is to use, and how I’m able to see all of my stats as I go. There are two minor things I would change: 1. I would love to be able to see a quick comparison of my FTP over time, for an at-a-glance view of my improvement. 2. I would make the “discard” button much less prominent. When I’m tired and have sweat in my eyes, it looks deceptively like an “end workout” button, and I would hate to discard all of that work by accident..Version: 4.9.1
FontI am an older rider and would love to make the front on bottom of screen bigger. The numbers for how far to go and how much has been completed.Version: 4.40.3

Nothing but troubleEver since Garmin took over the application it’s been nothing but trouble. Starting with the fact that all of the training rides I had previously purchased have disappeared (not right!). Now, it’s a day-to-day crapshoot weather I get connected or not..Version: 4.63.5

Needs more courses & less glitches in appSome things that Garmin do are great .. but there are a few that are frustrating… Garmin does not / has not responded to any customer service submissions have made in the past. With many new rivals coming it could be limited time for my use of Garmin products.Version: 4.76.7
Good workoutsWhile there are good workouts. App needs lot of functional improvements. Please improve how workouts are organized on Home Screen. You shouldn’t have to jump to 3rd page/tab to search for workouts..Version: 4.76.7

Great trainer, stupid training ideasFor some reason on the Ten City tour in Holland I have to follow Pofferidge Pete or Stroopwaffle Steve or whatever his name is in the yellow jersey. Why? Why? So damned irritating blocking the view! Way different if you follow a pro or team but this? Stupid idea. Hate it! Just stop these stupid ideas! Does no one carry out peer reviews? G.Version: 4.66.4
Safest Way to Train and Best Bike Travel At HomeMy TACX Trainer is my best “Toy” Ever! Have 2 actually. Love It!! I have now done over 500 rides, riding on my own physical bike with my own gears. Each one a moment spent quelling my Travel Bug and exploring new places in the world, and even reriding some places I have done in real life. Only issue is with their latest change, where the start screen for a hill climb stays on the screen WAY TOO LONG, and you miss so much of the scenery in behind. Otherwise Love, love, LOVE my TACX trainer. TACX Garmin, Thank You! Look forward to more movies..Version: 4.68.2
