ImpossibleI own two businesses and have them hooked with Expedia. We now are not able to communicate with the guest. We are remote so I need to be able to text, call or email the guest. Expedia has blocked us from being able to do so. So now I have guests showing up at the property, unable to check in. I cannot even email them. There is no way to use the Expedia Partner Central app to even communicate. I’m blocked from being able to take care of my. However, Expedia is very happy to take 17% to 22% of these bookings.
When you call them, you get an agent who is in a room with what sounds like 100 other people talking. And instead of them picking up the phone and talking to you, were trying to call you back, they just want you to email them and they sometimes are 3 to 5 days. Expedia catch 22Expedia Partner Central’s latest policy of not providing hotel partners with guests’ telephone numbers creates a serious operational problem. We have no reliable way to contact guests in advance to provide essential registration and check-in information. As a result, guests arrive at the property confused, not knowing what to do, and understandably frustrated after a long day of travel.
The supposed backup is Expedia’s messaging platform within Partner Central. However, messages sent there are often placed under review for “security reasons,” while Expedia simultaneously advises partners to call the guest instead. That is obviously impossible when Expedia has withheld the guest’s phone number. Not easy to useThere is no way to manage your bookings with this. It does not allow you to see all your reservation at a glance. You can only see what’s happening today. It does not show any upcoming reservations. If it is not happening today you have to scroll through the calendar and hopefully remember arrivals dates and click on it. No customer contact number available?As a hotel partner relying on Expedia to manage reservations, this policy change has created a serious operational problem. Guest phone numbers are now completely hidden from Partner Central including on the reservations page, side panel, and message experience with no workaround available.
The only option offered is Expedia’s Message Center, which is unreliable at best. Messages are frequently held “under review for security reasons,” yet Expedia’s own support team tells you to call the guest which is impossible when they’ve withheld the number.
This leaves us unable to reach guests for urgent pre-arrival communication, resulting in confused travelers and a poor check-in experience that reflects badly on our property, not on Expedia.
We were told this is a known issue being investigated, with no timeline and no workaround. For a platform handling real hospitality operations, this is unacceptable. Basic guest contact should never require a support ticket.
