SmoothHonestly Google Fiber is so smooth. I’ve got a great deal, the internet is FAST, the app is amazing! You can pause your child’s WiFi right off the app if need be and set timers. You can kick people off the WiFi and see all the devices on your WiFi and how much the devices are using. You can make a guest WiFi so you don’t compromise your direct WiFi when people need the internet. At my last house the price was a bit pricey, but my new house it is cheaper and I do not like spectrum! I’m originally from California and had Frontier Fiber Optics, it was a rough company to work for and sell cause of there history but they had the best product so that’s what I used. I moved to Missouri and was happy to know Google was in town. I was a bit iffy just because it’s google but so far I’ve been amazed. Where ever you can get fiber get it. It’s a direct line in, it’s fiber optic your upload and download speeds will match. Using other companies that are not, they use coaxial cables which are like old telephone lines blended with fiber. Which limit your upload speeds. It’s like glass compared to plastic. Plus normally when I test my speeds they are always great! Not what it used to beOnce upon a time, Google Fiber was new and I lived in one of the pilot cities. It was so much better than the crappy Time Warner. The service was fast, customer service was knowledgeable and could often fix any issues remotely. I never worried about slow speeds or outages.
Fast forward to late 2022, and it is as if The service us being run by Cox or Spectrum (Time Warner’s new alias). Spotty connection, slower speeds, underwhelmingly basic tech support and God forbid they need to send a tech…it takes days. Sounds disturbing familiar doesn’t it?
In closing, I agree with the common theory that when they started offering the higher speed package, they sent a sneaky update to all devices to throttle our service in an effort to get us to upgrade from $70 to $100 per month just to regain what we already had..UnlivableVersion: 2.230517.1
How Can GOOGLE Fail at SearchesIt’s really quite amazing how bad the search functionality is with this app (and Google Fiber itself).
Example: The Oscars are tonight. I’m not home and wanted to record the show. Dare I try on e again to use this worthless app to find a show and record it? Oh, why not? I’ve got 29 minutes to kill. I found 14 “The Oscars” titles, NONE OF WHICH had any “upcoming airtimes” that I could set to record. I finally used the guide and just kept advancing hours until I found it.
Why are there 14 “The Oscars” in the first place? Because Google wants you to know that there were Oscar ceremonies on TV in 1952 as well. Why does this matter? It doesn’t, but you still cannot find what you’re looking for and record it. What’s the point of a app like this? I dunno, ask every other cable provider. They seem to have their own issues, but finding a show that comes on TV six hours from now is not one of them.
Google is exceptional at finding things. How can it be this horrible at the only task you’d need from an app like this? Answer: it’s okay. you have the same issues when searching from the Google Fiber set-top box..ImadudenamedVersion: 1.3
Great internet. App needs upgradeHave used Google Internet for over 3 years. Prior Nest Wi-Fi hardware was pathetic with poor coverage. Consumer Reports rates it at the bottom. Google recently upgraded the router & extender hardware which looks chunky but works better. The earlier Google home app was also ho hum. G Fiber app is better but not great. Has good basic features but overall performance & responsiveness needs improvement. In particular needs upgrading of the device management functionality. Needs workThe app generally works well. My main issue, is I cannot upgrade my plan to a faster speed with my own equipment. It wants to force a service call to install new equipment that are not needed. My equipment is the faster WiFi 7 and quad band. Also my fiber jacket support all levels of speed offered. Can’t rename or use an alias on my wife devicesI want to be able to rename all of the WiFi devices that are using my router. I have over 30 devices including smart speakers, cameras, tvs, etc. and the default name for all of them are very cryptic. Not able to rename all those devices. also makes it hard for me to see if someone is logged into my WiFi without me knowing it.

I tried to reschedule my payment from the 13th to the 16th because of when my paychecks land and I was told that was not possible and it never would be. You can never delay, temporarily reschedule, or permanently reschedule payment dates under any circumstances. They are absolutely inflexible.

The app is lacking in optionsIf you know even just the basics about network security and like having control over it, you won’t like what Google Fiber has to offer. No VPA3 support, no option to restrict access, unable to read network device name (in some cases, not others), so you have to identify them by their MAC address, and no ability to label them in the app. There’s also no basic function of refreshing the list of connected devices without closing the app. The web app isn’t much better. This is terrible. Do not get 2gigs!I had the regular 1 gig and was able to do much more with that router. Setup parental controls, schedules etc.
then I upgraded to 2gigs thinking I was getting an even better setup. Little did I know that you can literally do NOTHING useful! Can’t even serialize the names of the devices connected to the network. Can’t setup any parental controls or schedules at all. It is genuinely so terrible I think I’m going to go back to 1gig and pay less and have significantly better control of my network.

SophmoricThe best feature is the Restart function - the Google network box is the weakest link in Google's lousy internet service - we have to reboot our service at least daily if we want Internet. Can’t name or control devicesWith my Orbi router and app I can rename devices to easily identify them, such as “Mom’s iPhone.” The GFiber app uses the MAC address to identify devices and you cannot change the display name. Individual device controlWe just switched to google fiber from AT&T, while I love the internet, I’m disappointed in the app. AT&T app allowed me to set profiles with times internet could be used in that profile. I could block or turn off individual devices. I could also set priority usage to certain devices. With a house full of kids and working from home, these were so handy. Fails to let you add port forwardingI noticed the app changed making it impossible to add port forwarding to the GF router. Customer service so bad it will radicalize youI’ve had this service for two years, and I have never had a positive experience with their customer service team.
If you choose google fiber, you can expect to wait 3-4 hours to even speak with an agent. You’ll get hung up on multiple times, and when you finally get to talk with someone, they speak English but not well enough to actually diagnose and fix the problem.
No matter how patient and polite you are, they will be rude.
